Ok team! Good poll! Very interesting. Now it's context time. (This is lengthy, tl:dr at the end).

First and foremost. Edelgard was never gonna win. As a few people pointed out, it's pitting a devisive character from 5-year old jrpg against a very popular character from a game that came out last August. Seeing who would win was never my goal. The poll was unfair to start.

No, my goal was seeing people respond and react to the poll and oh boy, did you! Unless if I am interpreting the reblogs and replies wrong, not a single one spoke of Astarion positively. Which is wild for the character with uh... About 294/413 votes, if I can do math.

This points pretty neatly towards the concept of the vocal minority. (An aside, once people started reblogging in favor of Edelgard, she started to gain many more votes, jumping from 15% to 28% at the end).

Now, several people in the notes attributed this to the disparity of male and female characters, with the "Tumblr culture hates female characters" vibe. Now I'm not on this site very often, but I thought that was an internet thing, not just a tumblr thing.

And also like.. they're both complex characters, in my opinion, but other than Being Morally Dubious* and People Argue About Them, the two characters have very little of substance in common. Truthfully, I think that in and of itself is a double edged sword, but that's neither here nor there.

TL;DR: Edelgard was never gonna win, Astarion is vastly more popular. The point was seeing how people reacted to the poll and the poll results.

I am over halfway through my first playthrough of bg3. Dark Urge, good aligned, the whole nine yards. Here's the deal. My Tav is also an Oathbreaker paladin(with warlock mixed in but who cares anyway) and they are hell bent on the whole freedom deal. I call them the Breaker of Chains because I love dramatic titles.

My second playthrough will be basically the exact reflection of the first one. Not super 'evil' per se because I feel bad for being evil, but they will maintain the status quo. Instead of bettering themselves and their allies, they will try to keep them as the extension of how they were when they met(which we can all mostly agree is not healthy for anyone)

It's gonna be a wild ride, especially with the notable ramifications I can already see come into play.

And it'll be modded because I love mods.
