Day 4

Not going to the trouble of doing 10 steps today unless I really feel like it when I get in to it, it's almost 1am at this point.

So here we go.

“Learning HTML Forms by Building A Registration Form” Steps 36-41

36 and 37 had me struggling to read the instructions because they're just written in such a janky ass way,

38 was tedious as hell, just kind of a bore to get through.

Step 39 and 40 were pretty nice.

Looking at Step 41 as I write this... something tells me it's gonna take a while.

I was write, that did take me quite a few minutes. But that's it for the night, let's do some tangentially related updates.

Today I had my first math test of the year, and... god it was not great... I had to use a quadratic, but quadratic form or the quadratic formula were not on the formula sheet provided, so I had to come up with it from memory, and I kept thinking it was ax+bx^2+c, when in reality it's ax^2, but I did manage to get that in the end.

What's less than ideal is that the last question of the test said "Try this if you want a 7" (for a context a 7 is like an A+), and I didn't get time to do that, which really sucks because I really wanted a 7 on this. But it's okay I guess, there's nothing to be done about it, I lived, I learned. I think I am getting better at math though, and feeling better about doing math, which is great.

Today I spoke with my dad about university, and he totally backtracked on the conversation that we had about it a few weeks ago. He's now saying that I shouldn't apply to colleges in the States, and just focus on the UK, which makes my life a whole lot easier, but maybe I should be taking on challenges (such as doing university in America) but I'm not too sure about. I'm gonna take the PSAT in October and proceed accordingly based off of that.

day 3

been feeling very frustrated at myself recently because the daily coding standard i set for myself aren't that high, i just can't get myself to reach them.

every day I watch CS videos on youtube and I think about how fun it would be to code this or that or go study CS here or there but I haven't actually done FCC in about a week.

so i'm doing it tonight.

"Learning HTML Forms by Building A Registration Form" Steps 24-30.

Step 24 was easy, step 25 I had one mistake that I caught myself on before I pressed "Check Your Code"....

And then I realized I had one too many input elements. After I pressed check. I think I need to read instructions better.

And I forgot input elements are self-closing.

Step 26 was fine, step 27 was easy peasy lemon squeezy. Step 28 was fine, Step 29 was tedious to begin with, and then I forgot that my label elements should have "for" attributes and not "id" attributes aaaach.

For step 30 I completely forgot how to link things to text, so I had to look up a tutorial. Shoutout to Chris Cooper fr fr.

Anyways... that was my coding day. Hope y'all enjoyed reading about my frustrations. I really hope I can get into a good uni and get a good job and all (prove people wrong I guess) and I really appreciate y'alls support <3 <3

day 2

Today I fell into the trap of basically rotting in bed the entire day. I got sucked into a rabbit-hole of watching those "My Entire Computer Science Degree In X Minutes," which give you the illusion of being productive, while you're actually just procrastinating writing some actual code. So, at like 11:45 at night, I decided to finally log into FreeCodeCamp.

I started work on steps 12 -21 of “Learn HTML Forms by Building a Registration Form” today, and to an extent I'm getting much better at self-correcting when I'm presented with errors (sans- external help), but today was also the first day I had to look up a YouTube tutorial for a step.

Made some really dumb mistakse:

I really struggled with step 16, because I somehow didn't realize that "input" was an attribute, and not just random text I had to put after the label text 💀.

I also spent a WHILE on step 17, because I forgot that we had to use "=" to set a value in HTML, not a colon.

I am so incredibly stupid sometimes.

But it's okay, we'll get there eventually.

day 1

Not entirely sure why I'm calling this day 1, considering the fact that is by no means my first day of coding, but it's my first day of updating the blog about what I'm upto re: compsci, so I guess I'll take it.

Unsure whether I mentioned this in my intro post or not, but I'm currently making my way through FreeCodeCamp's courses. I'm still on the first one ("Responsive Web Design"), which is basically just HTML and CSS for beginners. I've done three of their practice-project things for that course so far, and today I did steps 1-11 of "Learn HTML Forms by Building a Registration Form," which is exactly what it sounds like. I'm trying to do at least 10 steps a day so I can stay consistent, and I'm really excited about this project, because after this I can do my first certification project.

I think the level of scaffolding that the Registration Form project provides is significantly less than previous projects, but I think that's good because it's allowed me to develop confidence in the knowledge that I've acquired throughout the past few weeks.
