Colors influence us differently because they have different wavelengths and frequencies, and these affect different parts of the brain. Color therapy, which uses color to cultivate energy in the body, dates back to the ancient civilizations of Egypt, India and China.

Working with the chakras can be a useful approach to cultivating energy through the use of color. Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning "wheel" or "disk," and the seven chakras, located along the central axis of the body, represent its seven major energy centers. Recognized by ancient civilizations for thousands of years, these centers correlate to the major nerve ganglia branching out from the spine. The chakras also correlate to levels of consciousness and bodily functions, among other things. And associated with each chakra is a color, based on the concept that the energy vibrating through each center has a different wavelength or quality of light.

NEW MOON IN LEO 11:12 PM EST

If you’ve been having rough emotions lately, you’re not alone! Nearly everyone traversed through murky emotional depths lately. We’re ending a moon cycle that started with a new moon eclipse in super-sensitive Cancer. Then, two weeks ago, we had a full moon eclipse in hard-headed Capricorn. These brought up sore spots where we’ve been hurt and want healing on issues that could be personal or political. As if those intense eclipses weren’t enough, several planets were retrograde, including Mercury, Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn, Pluto, and the minor planet Chiron.

We’ve all been healing on deep levels, both emotional and foundational. Your shadow has likely made an appearance, if not many, over the past few weeks. As the moon continues to wane into a tiny sliver, it’s important for you to really feel these hard emotions. You’ll need to listen to what they say before you can choose to release them.

This fiery new moon in Leo brings hope, light, and a fresh start. On this day, the sun and moon will be conjunct with Venus, in proud, fierce Leo. On the same day, Mercury finally goes direct! This gives the new moon an extra grace and sweetness, as well as the feeling of finally moving forward. Not only will we be able to relax after the revelations and intense healing; we’ll be able to start anew with a wiser outlook.

If you want to perform a ritual to release the past or any emotions that are holding you back, write down your fears on small pieces of paper or bay leaves, and burn them with intention while the moon is waning. After the new moon bursts forth in typical fabulous Leonine fashion, it’s the perfect time to align with what you want more of in your life. Make a spell bottle with all the things that mean “new life” to you. Meditate and align with the new energy. Divination could be especially useful too, to know what’s coming with the new energy.

August 1 is the holiday Lammas, known as “the first harvest” on the wheel of the year. It indicates that we should harvest what we like and leave the rest behind. We hope you empower yourself to be the best you can be, and that you celebrate this momentous time.
