Slayers Pokémon Teams: Filia Ul Copt
Welp, since I did Xellos today I might as well do Filia too (please don’t take that out of context). Now I don’t personally ship them that much, but the fandom’s decreed they’re a package deal and I do ever so enjoy their bitter banter. I also like Filia’s character in general, so that was a motivator as well. So, without further delay, onto the adorkable dragon lady’s equally adorkable team!
Tumblr media
Dragonite: Obviously I had to include at least one dragon pokemon. But why Dragonite? Well, for one thing it looks kinda like Filia. For another, Dragonite are often described as helpful creatures known for rescuing sailors, which fits Filia’s modus operandi. Well, the being altruistic part, not the helping sailors part. The beginning of Slayers Try has shown that helping sailors isn’t quite Filia’s thing. But let’s ignore that, shall we?
Kangaskhan: Ah, the single parent Pokémon. Considering Filia adopted Valgaav (or at least his egg) at the end of Try, it should be no surprise that I put Kangaskhan here. Also, mega Kangaskhan could be interpreted as her and Valgaav teaming up, which is an adorable thought. Also, on a less wholesome tangent, thanks to her adoption of Valgaav, Filia is now the only Slayers main cast member, to my knowledge, who qualifies as a MILF. Let that sink in. I had this realization and now you all must too *insert maniacal laughter here*.
Charizard: Ah yes, the fire-lizard overrated starter and Game Freak’s cash cow. Putting aside my own feelings on this ‘mon, charizard is a fitting Pokémon for Filia. I mean, she’s a devout follower of the fire dragon whose actual name eludes me. Plus, much like Dragonite, kinda looks like Filia.
Audino: This one was selected for two reasons: one, it’s healing abilities are a good stand-in for Filia’s holy magic powers, and 2, the ears on Audino’s head kinda remind me of Filia’s ridiculous headpiece. I mean, I suppose it wouldn’t look TOO out of place in the Pokémon world. I’ve seen gym leaders and evil team members wear much stranger.
Polteageist: This one represents Filia’s jar obsession and choice of occupation post-TRY. Also, the ghost type is fitting considering a good chunk of her species was wiped out in TRY. I like to imagine that the Valley of Dragons from Next chose to stay uninvolved. Mostly because I’m pretty sure Milgazia shows up later in the novels and while I know TRY isn’t canon to the novels, I’m pretty sure it’s canon to the anime, at least to some extent, so if they adapt later material it would at least serve as a plausible explanation. Granted they could just ignore it like they did with some stuff in Revolution, but I digress.
Tinkaton: Here we have the other half of Filia’s stock and trade, maces, represented by Tinkaton. “But Channelsurfer, Tinkaton uses a hammer, not a mace!” Well excuuuuuuusssseee me princesss! Sorry if the Pokémon company hasn’t deigned to make a mace pokemon. This was the best I could do, and to be fair, it’s still a heavy bludgeoning weapon wielded by an adorable creature. If that isn’t Filia, I don’t know what is!

Slayers Pokémon Teams: Xellos
Now we to turn everyone’s favorite trickster priest, Xellos! Well, everyone except Filia and the entirety of the gold dragon race. In any case, here’s the team.
Tumblr media
Bisharp: I mean, I HAD to include the dark type Pokémon named after a type of clergyman. It just made too much sense! Also, it fits when one considers that Xellos, as powerful as he undoubtedly is, is a loyal agent of Zelas Metallium (whose name sounds like it would make an awesome metal band name by the way). Thus, while he is no pawn by any means, he still is a piece being moved on his master’s orders, though he still exerts some autonomy when he feels like it.
Gengar: Look at that shit eating grin. Now there’s a mug Xellos can approve of! Facial expressions aside, Gengar is a Pokémon known to troll people, which, as we all know, is Xellos’s favorite pastime.
Mimikyu: I choose this one to represent Xellos’s ability to disguise himself as human, as it’s one of the many traits that set him apart from other monsters (in that, he’s actually good at it). Also, its color scheme kinda fits Xellos’s cloak. Plus it’s an unassuming Pokémon that is absolutely terrifying if you know what it’s really like.
Excadrill: This one represents Xellos’s true form as a murderous cone. Excadrill can also turn into a cone that the Pokémon competitive scene certainly considers murderous. Hence its place here.
Vanilluxe: Xellos, despite his lack of human emotions and presumably having a weird as hell pallet, has shown a fondness for sweets throughout the series. Also, despite its goofy appearance, Vanilluxe is capable of killing dragons, much like Xellos.
Shiny Zoroark: This Pokémon represents Xellos’s nature as both a trickster and a creation of Beastmaster Zelas since Zelda’s form is that of a wolf person and Zoroark is the trickster Pokémon. Also, its ability to disguise itself fits given Xellos’s whole schtick. Also the shiny form fits Xellos’s color scheme with the purple hair.

You, I feel like there aren’t enough Re: Zero abridged series out there. I mean, there are some, but most fall into the pitfalls of making Subaru an idiot or playing up the saying no to Rem joke. Frankly, there’s so much fodder for an abridged series in Re: Zero just by exaggerating or minorly altering the characters. I mean, canonically, Rem is a creep towards Subaru, so you can just exaggerate that for instant comedic effect. Subaru you wouldn’t really need to change, just reframe his fucked-in-the-headedness for dark comedy and make him a bit more snarky and 4th wall break prone. Also, Ram just needs to sweat more often to be an abridged character but I think there’s something hilarious one could do with her character if one were so inclined. I would play on the theory that Ram’s crush on Roswaal was amplified by her memories of Rem being erased and take it to its logical extreme by having her have a yandere level crush on Rem which is one of the reasons she pisses on Subaru. Suffice it to say, Rem is disturbed by this. Bonus points is Ram doesn’t believe Subaru when he tells Ram that she had a crush on Rem after Rem was erased, with Ram calling Subaru a degenerate pig. Also, I’m not sure whether I’d keep Emilia naive but self aware of her nativity or have her be not naive in the slightest. Also, a good joke with Emilia could be that, since she was frozen 100 years ago, she has some views of demi humans that were progressive for the time but are incredibly racist nowadays, thus contributing to her lack of popularity. Also, Puck could definitely be portrayed as casually terrifying. Also, there would be SO many directions one could take Roswaal in relation to how he’s lived for 400 years. Hell, the entire cast could be hilarious with very little alteration.

Slayers Pokémon Teams: Amelia Wil Tesla Seyruun
Lo and behold, Amelia’s Pokémon team! One thing you’ll probably note about this team is that half of the Pokémon aren’t fully evolved. This was an intentional choice on my part to show how Amelia, as the youngest member of the Slayers crew, still has some growing to do.
Tumblr media
Arcanine: This one represents Amelia’s love of justice, as its hidden ability is justified and the Arcanine line is often used by officer Jenny in the anime.
Lokix: One might question what a dark type locust is doing on Amelia “lives, breathes, and eats justice” Seyruun’s team. However, one thing you should remember is that Lokix is based on Kamen Rider and Sentai heroes which Amelia is canonically a huge fan of, or at least the Slayers equivalent thereof. I could totally see Amelia practicing her posing with Lokix, trying to balance on the tallest available object while holding a suitably dramatic pose for as long as possible.
Hitmonchan: This one is obvious. Amelia punches stuff, Hitmonchan punches stuff. Easy choice, really.
Nidorina: Now we come to the unevolved Pokémon. In this case, nidorina is meant to represent Amelia’s status as a princess, though come to think of it, is that her actual title? I mean, Phil is a prince but he takes on more duties of statesmanship that princes usually do, which kinda makes him a king in all but name. Hmmm. Well, either way, I envision this Pokémon as being a gift from Naga, what with poison types being more her thing than Amelia’s.
Clefairy: Hey, I had to add a cutesy Pokémon here somewhere. Plus given the utility moves the Clefable line learns, it serves as a symbol of Amelia shrine maiden magic, which is largely support and healing focused. Also, it evolves with a moon stone, like Nidorina, which I thought was fitting considering Amelia’s sort-of love interest is Zelgadis.
Steenee: This is another Pokémon that evolves into a more royalty focused Pokémon, which I found to be fitting. Also, the Tsareena line fights with its feet, which I thought would be fitting for Amelia with her penchant for pugilism and close-quarters-combat.

Slayers Pokémon Teams: Zelgadis Graywords
Alright, you know the drill team below this sentence and justifications below the chart.
Tumblr media
Golem: I couldn’t resist giving Zel a Pokémon named Golem. It was too easy. Actually I was tempted to give him Golurk, but I figured that Golem fit better with the whole rock skin thing Zelgadis has going on. Actually, you’ll notice the first three Pokémon here represent the three ingredients that compose the crusty, chimeric crème brûlée that is Zelgadis.
Grimmsnarl: This one represents Zel’s blow (or is it brow?) demon aspect. There really aren’t many Pokémon I could call “demons” despite the dark type’s general existence, so I went with the next best thing. Plus the way Blow demons are designed make them sound kinda imp like.
Gallade: This ‘mon represents Zel’s human side, as well as his abilities as a swordsman.
Sigilyph: I chose this one since it’s a Pokémon which is known to dwell in temples and ruins, two of Zel’s favorite places to brood in and pillage. Also, the surprisingly wide move pool of elemental attacks can serve to represent Zel’s talent for Shamanistic magic.
Absol: This one represents Zel’s tendency to be a loner, a trait which fits with Absol’s isolationist tendencies, only showing up when shit’s about to go down. Also, it has emo hair, Zel has emo hair, match made in heaven.
Ferrothorn: This one also represents Zel’s personality, specifically his deadpan and figuratively prickly exterior. Though I suppose Zel’s exterior is also literally prickly since his hair’s made of wire. Come to think of it, is all of Zel’s hair wiry? Including the hair around his … lower regions? Ouch! No wonder he wants to find a cure so badly, that must hurt like hell, to say nothing of the inconvenience it would prove in the bedroom. Oh yeah, also Ferrothorn fits since it’s a fusion of organic and inorganic material like Zelgadis.

Slayers Pokémon Teams: Gourry Gabriev
M’kay so, here’s Gourry’s team. Explanations are below.
Tumblr media
Quagsire: I wanted to have at least one Pokémon on Gourry’s team that was known for being dumb. Quagsire was the one I thought fit Gourry’s color scheme the most. Also, that face is the kinda face I could see Gourry making.
Lucario: This one was because I thought Lucario matched Gourry’s color scheme, plus Lucario’s are known for being able to sense auras and emotions and such and Gourry, for all his issues with general cognition, is pretty observant. I mean, he figured out Xellos was a Mazoku before anyone else, that’s gotta count for something, right?
Jellicent: Gourry is repeatedly called Jellyfish Brains by Lina and compared to Jellyfish. Do the math.
Aegislash: Pokémon sword of light/Gourry’s other sword whose name I can’t remember. I mean, there are only so many sword Pokémon. What else was I gonna pick? Plus the ghost type is fitting consider most of Gourry’s immediate family is dead due to fighting over the sword (on an unrelated note, I have a headcanon that the in-universe reason Gourry gave the sword of light up at the end of try was really that all the struggle with people trying to steal the sword of light reminded him of his family situation and made him come to the conclusion that if he gave the sword back to its original home, people wouldn’t fight over it, though this is just my own interpretation).
Sirfetch’d: It’s a swordsman bird wielding a giant leek as its weapon. That fits Gourry’s profession, plus the fact that it evolves from a silly and weak pokemon like Farfetch’d is something right out of Slayers. Also, I could totally see a running gag where Lina constantly suggests using Sirfetch’d as emergency food, with Gourry always vehemently refusing.
Snorlax: Gourry eats almost as much as Lina, plus Snorlax’s generally chill demeanor (provide you don’t wake it up while it’s indulging in its hobby of obstructing bridge traffic, but let’s ignore that) is a good match.

Slayers Pokémon Teams: Lina Inverse
So, I’ve been playing around with a Pokémon team building website recently and came up with the idea to make Pokémon teams for characters from Slayers. The general idea is to make a team that represents various aspects of their characters be it figuratively or literally. So, without further ado, here’s Lina’s team.
Tumblr media
Shiny Alakazam: This Pokémon is meant to represent Lina’s occupation as a sorceress, given that Alakazam has something of an association with magic and is highly intelligent, I thought it was a good fit. Also, the shiny version has pink highlights which matches Lina’s title in the sorcery guild.
Typhlosion: One of Lina’s most notable abilities is her capacity to find new and exciting ways to blow up bandits. As such, the fire Pokémon whose name is a portmanteau of explosion seemed like a good fit. Also, it’s based on a honey badger, and if the phrase “pissed off, pyromaniacal honey badger” doesn’t describe Lina, I don’t know what does.
Shiny Gyarados: Here’s another Pokémon that represents Lina’s temperament, as Gyarados is known for its ferocious temper and destructive rampages, just like our favorite flat chested sorceress. Also, Gyarados’s status as a Pokémon that looks like a dragon but isn’t is fitting considering Lina’s moniker of Dragon Spooker. Also, it’s shiny because it fits Lina’s color scheme better.
Morpeko: Given this Pokémon has an ability that causes it to switch between hangry mode and full belly mode and is known for eating a lot, it should be pretty obvious how this Pokémon fits the infamously gluttonous Lina Inverse.
Runerigus: This Pokémon was picked due to Lina’s occupation as a sorcerer. Specifically, as a sort of sorcerer who pursues ancient and forbidden magicks. Hence why I chose the Pokémon that is a possessed rune stone. Bonus points for how it has a serpent/dragon on it.
Shiny Sableye: I went with Sableye since it covets wealth like Lina. I could just imagine Lina and Sableye stuffing sacks full of requisitioned bandit loot, manic, greed-induced grins on their faces. Also, I made it shiny because the gold color fits with Lina’s color scheme more and the gold coloration better sells Lina’s greed.

Honestly, I was disappointed that Lina wasn’t dragged to court for the crime of being Lina Inverse, because, frankly, it would be absolutely hilarious to see how Lina’s friends would try and fail to mount a credible defense. All of them did kind of agree with Wizer that being Lina is a serious crime. I mean, this whole business was a long time coming with how much property damage Lina has caused. Plus, imagine all the callbacks they could make by bringing in characters from previous series as witnesses. Hell, we could even get a Luna Inverse cameo at the trial just to make Lina’s experience suck all that more! Maybe the first half could serve as a parody of recap episodes, where the various witnesses recount the events of the series but either biased by their understandable grudge against Lina or filtered through their … eccentric view of things. Actually, this kinda makes me wanna write a fanfic about this.
slayers revolution was so right for saying "you know what this show needs? an inspector zenigata."

You know, I’m pretty sure I’ve read some crack fics where the joke is that L-Sama has a crush on Lina of epic yandere proportions. Also, if you wanna get technical, Sylphiel giving Lina CPR could be seen as a kiss on the barest of technicalities. Actually, I have been planning a fic involving Sylphiel trying to get over her crush on Gourry, but instead developing a crush on Lina, with the punchline being her dragon slaving Lina out of sheer flustered-ness when Lina jokingly says she could do worse than Sylphiel as a first kiss when Zelgadis brings up the cpr vs kiss technicality in a debate. For a brief nano-angstrom Lina felt a twinge of empathy for all the costumer service workers she’s combusted over the years. Sylphiel runs away in embarrassment and shame because of the collateral damage and that’s why she isn’t in Slayers TRY. Problem is, I’ve been having trouble coming up with methods one could use to get over a crush. I’m going with the conceit that the cast will each provide their own, ineffective solution, which ends with Lina’s attempt at helping Sylphiel which causes Sylphiel to realize “Ceipheed dammit, I have a crush on a taken man AND a taken woman now!” All I need to do is figure out some general “getting over crushes” strategies.
lina inverse yuri i will manifest you into existence
[flipping through my notes] okay so the lord of nightmares is a woman... and the ragna blade and giga slave are the lord of nightmares. therefore when lina casts either of these she is holding a woman in her hands this is yuri being possessed by LON is also yuri. in fact, what could be more yuri than a woman having another woman inside her

M'kay, so I've been playing Dragon Quest V recently. Gotta say, love the game. The dialogue's great, the characters are charming, and the story is heartfelt. Also, the kids are adorable. On that note, Madchen has been killing bosses left and right. She killed Slon the Rook, Bishop Lahda, and King Korol. I like to imagine that her brother being the legendary hero left her with a bit of a chip on her shoulder so she compensates by being 200% more badass. I mean, why else would she learn a spell that lets her transform into a dragon, aside from the obvious reason that any eight year old would want to turn into a dragon if given the chance. Also, the main character is kind of a crappy ruler. In that, they never seem to actually rule.

Hahahahahah! Oh god this is hilarious. Cyrus being blatantly evil and intimidating while Saturn just looks on regretting his life choices. Comedy gold. Also, this is honestly why Saturn is one of my favorite evil team admins in general: he’s actually sensible, at least compared to the rest of team galactic, and has the hindsight to say “huh, maybe that was a bad idea” after Cyrus screws off to the distortion world. Honestly, I’d love to see something about him trying to remake team galactic into a legitimate energy company. That would be pretty interesting to see.

My partner is a Darumaka. Not overly fond of that line to be honest. Although, I feel like this dynamic is going to be like a comedy duo ala abbot and costello, with me as the beleaguered straight man and the Darumaka as the zany funny man. Also, if we both evolve I won’t have hands but Darmanitan will. That’s a recipe for disaster if I’ve ever heard it.
you're going about your normal day when, suddenly, surprise! you've been pokémon mystery dungeon'd!
unfortunately, due to budget cuts, the pokémon assigning quiz has been canceled. instead, you must spin THE WHEEL, assigning you a random, unevolved, non-legendary and non-mythical pokémon. you must now go on some sort of world-saving adventure as this pokémon. good luck!
tell me in the tags what you rolled, and how you feel about it - for bonus points, you can spin the wheel again for (or just take your pick of) a pokémon to be your partner.
bonus rules:
you're not shiny unless the wheel tells you you're shiny
take your pick of regional forms and evolutions (for example, if you roll vulpix, it's up to you whether that means normal or alolan vulpix)
apply whatever logic you like with regards to gender
have fun and be yourself!
