We’ve got some redesigns for everyone in the party. Long pants and heavy clothes aren’t exactly suited to a tropical region. The only with basically no changes in Bonnie, they’re already perfect! (Sif gets two cause at the start he has long hair but cuts and dyes it right before meeting the party) (and yes, Isa is wearing crocs)

Quite possibly one of my favorite pieces I’ve made for this au. They get to be purple because they’re tied to both the land and sea. He’s just so pretty! There’s not exactly much substance since it’s pretty much a 1 to 1 equivalent to the end of Act 5.

It’s mermay and I unintentionally made a mermaid au for ISaT (somehow during this month, I forgot about mermay)

Regardless, I come bearing a brief synopsis and major design changes (with more to come~)

The name is “Ray of Sif-shine”, which is shortened to RoSS. Cause Sif is a ray mermaid! The world is different to what you’re used to. Vaugarde is an archipelago, the lost country got Atlantised (still forgotten), mermaids follow a H2O style logic, and all people form the island are mermaids in someway shape or form. Which using this as a great Segway we get to the designs.

First is Sif: He’s inspired by classic rays like eagle rays. Mostly solitary before the events leading up to meeting the party, with minimal contact with small villages. He hides the fact he’s a mermaid from the group, which leads to complications…

Next is ever helpful Loop: They’re a guitarfish (a cousin to rays and sharks), and very big. Only found around Dormonts Favor Tree (located on a cliff overlooking the sea), they help Siffrin same as usual. Just so happening to need to lay down instead of sit on the trees roots.

Finally is the King: He’s a coconut crab. Big and intimidating he takes up all space he can with his 6 legs, hiding his go face behind his claws. Embodying everything the Change belief goes against, stagnation, freezing people in time, and CRABS.

“Bee, why are you using my nail polish?”

“Cause Sif needs pretty nails too!”

“That isn’t nearly enough for the amount of nail he has, y’know.”

“…”

“You’re replacing my nail polish tomorrow, with the EXTRA glittery kind.”

He gasps dramatically holding his free hand to his forehead. “Oh what an awful fate, the worst kind imaginable, getting the prettiest kind of nail polish known to man!”

She kicks him slightly. “Now you owe me two nail polishes!”

“Oh how AWFUL!”

“Hey Loop.”

“Yes Housemaiden?”

“It’s Mirabelle-but I have a question, it’s ok with you.”

They tense ever so slightly. “Well, depends on what it is. So ask and I’ll see if I shall grace you with my divine knowledge.”

“How do you have so much hair?”

They just pause cause how do you answer that, Odile interrupts. “Mirabelle you can’t just ask someone why they have so much hair.”

Bonnie joins in on the light teasing. “Yeah Belle you can’t just ask someone that!”

“Oh! Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t that was a sensitive topic…”

Odile looks up from her book. “We’re just teasing, Asking someone about their hair quantity isn’t some horrible offense.”

“Wait it isn’t?”

“No it isn’t Boniface.”

“Then why do you have so much hair?”

She cackles in response; calming down she responds. “Heh- that’s because I’ve spent years growing my hair out. You could have my amount of hair if you spend the next few years growing yours out and taking good care of it. I’m sure your sister could help with that.”

“Hmmm, nah that’s too much work.”

“True that!” Loop cuts back in.

Sooo, I made another au. This time my spin on the sadfrin au. (Which I’m dubbing Appétence Siffrin, just so it’s easier to distinguish.)

So this deviated hard from what I originally planned, so uh. I guess this is the beginnings of an isat Octo expansion au.

Sif, taking on the role of an amnesiac traveler trapped in the subway and its tunnels with a finicky relationship with death and time. Wandering and trying to find purpose when he happens upon an Urchin named Loop (who’s debatably even a sea creature) who seems to know more about him than even himself. Teaming up to figure out what the shell is going on, they traverse the deep sea metro. (I have very little idea about this au at this time but hey, a starts a star)

For the most part, my approach to prescribing hormones is “sure,” but I will note that the one thing I lean HARD on patients about is smoking. If you’re transgender, and you’re on hormones, the number one thing we want to protect is your cardiovascular health. That’s frankly the number one thing I want to protect in all my patients, but anyone taking exogenous hormones is at higher baseline risk. And the best thing you can do for your heart is DON’T SMOKE. It’s a bitch to quit, and I didn’t even smoke much or long before I quit in my late teens, and I STILL didn’t enjoy quitting and had smoking dreams for years. It’s harder to quit than just about anything else up to and including crack and heroin, and that’s coming from a patient of mine who recently passed in her early 60s who’d done all of those things—for years and years—but eventually was able to quit everything except smoking. And that killed her. She developed severe COPD and eventually called to say her blood oxygen saturation was dipping into the 70s, which is incompatible with life. She was lucid enough to decline medical care, including refusing to call 911 or go to the ER. A week later, after both I and one of our outreach nurses had contacted her to ask her to please go to the ER, I got a notification that she’d been found dead. She had been so frustrated that she wasn’t a candidate for a lung transplant.

One of my oldest trans patients is in her late 50s. She’s had blood clots that went to the lungs. Repeatedly. Smoking raises that risk. Estrogen raises that risk. She’s a veteran with PTSD; of course she smoked.

These aren’t theoretical. These are humans I’ve cared for over years of their lives. I have been rooting for them—my beloved former addict, who spoke without shame about her years of homelessness and drug use in the city; my queer elders, who are slowly trading in their motorcycles for power scooters. I want everyone to live their fullest, best life.

Smoking doesn’t fit into that. Please don’t smoke. I don’t want you to die like that—not now and not later. I want you to have the future that you may not be able to see yet, but exists.

Since I moved home as an out queer, word got out, and there’s a whole apartment complex of lesbians in their 60s to their 80s who come see me—sitting next to their wives in the office, nagging about blood pressure meds, tattling about not having gotten the shingles shot they said they would. To be clear, when I was growing up in town, I knew no lesbians. Not one. I knew one gay kid in my class, which eventually turned into two. We were it. To see these women living decades with their wives and being able to squabble like any couple in my office over who was supposed to bring their home blood pressure cuff in for us to check it… it means the world to me.
