The Himlingøje Woman
Roman iron age grave from Himlingøje, Denmark. She died in her 40s or 50s and was buried with many treasures both local and imported.
i also did a version of the whole grave where everything is in its proper place and not shuffled around like this, but its an odd shaped image for tumblr. will probably post that one later : )
Based on photo by Roberto Fortuna and Kira Ursem from natmus.dk

Broken Brooch
One of a pair of incomplete oval brooches found in Overhalla, Trøndelag.
On some objects I feel like doing more interpretation rather than showing all the damage and details. This one is definitely one with more interpretation than usual since from the angles available, it's pretty much impossible to see what's going on in some parts and it didn't make a lot of sense.

i have a brooch i feel like i'm building up to do justice. im so in love with this brooch every time i see it irl it's like i'm seeing a celebrity i love in the street, only i went there on purpose just to look at it and it's behind glass and literally just a brooch. every time i feel like i can't find an object i'd like to draw i consider doing it and go "not yet"

Pompeii: the new discoveries in the excavation in Region IX
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The dominant theme seems to be that of heroism, due to the representations of pairs of heroes and deities of the Trojan War, but also due to the fact and at the same time of the often open possibility that man has to be able to change his own destiny.
Tumblr media
In addition to Helena and Paris, indicated in a Greek inscription between the two figures under her other name “Alexandros”, the figure of Cassandra, daughter of Priam, appears on the walls of the living room. In Greek mythology Cassandra was known for her gift of foresight and the terrible fate that prevented her from changing the future. Despite her ability to see beyond the present, no one believes her words, due to a curse that Apollo inflicts on her for not giving herself to him, and therefore she will not be able to prevent the tragic events of the Trojan War. that she predicted. After being raped during the taking of Troy, she will end up as Agamemnon's slave in Mycenae.
Tumblr media
The frequent presence of mythological figures in paintings of the living and social environments of Roman houses actually had a social function of entertaining guests and diners, providing impulses for conversation and reflection on existence.

Interpreting the design vs drawing what i see
Which method i depend on most changes from object to object. I think brooch T6575 looks best with the interpretation approach :)

Brooch with Faces
While i was drawing this i assumed the brooch was from around the viking age due to the style, but according to the description it's from after the Reformation ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
No matter when it's from i just love the style and expressions of all these faces.
