YO people of Brooklyn, the surrounding boroughs, the Tri-State Area, infinity, and beyond: Do you want a hair cut? Do you want a beer? Do you want to hang with some queers and talk shit? Do you not want any of these things but just want to be in the presence of some cuties? Well, we’ve got ya. PHRESH CUTZ is a spot for queers and friends of all kinds to kick it with like-minded individuals over drinks and beats while also tightening up their look for the coming fall season.
WHAT: The last outdoor party of the late great summer 2012, featuring: Fresh cuts (long, short, and everywhere in between) Fresh tracks (Shilpeezy, aka Lady BANGBANG of Washington, DC) Booze (beer and bar) Food (vegan and non-vegan options abounds!)  …and friends (old and new)! Cover: $7/2 drinks, $10/2 drinks + haircut WHEN: Sunday, September 2, 2-10PM, with an afterparty somewhere around the neighborhood, location TBA WHERE: Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn 221 Quincy between Bedford and Nostrand WHO: Hair Force One is a Brooklyn-based collective of queer kids with nice hair who want to spread the love, the fun, and the look. Over the course of four years, we found each other through friends, friends of friends, and the big, wide Internet. This year we finally found ourselves in the same city. It may have been the queer connection, it may have been the summer air, it may have been the five dollar beer-and-shot combo at Sweet Revenge, but whatever it was, the magic was instant. Besides general flyness, we found that something we all had in common was a penchant for cutting queer hair. The next step seemed obvious: a pop-up barbershop, literally in our own backyard. Haircuts for an affordable price in a comfortable space with people you want to meet. It took the five of us four years to find each other — now you can find your crew in just one day. MEET THE TEAM: Katrina ‘KC Danger’ Casino Emma ‘Tears for Shears’ Klein-Stropnicky Scout ‘Dances With Scissors’ Riera Zulai ‘Ace of Fades’ Romero Jess ‘Buzz Lightshears’ Markowitz And - if all goes well - we’re hoping to throw down once a month all year ‘round. Come through and support the cause so we can all keep coming back for more! Mad love, Hair Force One

On Glitter, Femme and Presentational Shifts.
I just read this post and it’s basically a far more articulate and filled-out version of the post that I wrote ages ago about not liking glitter. I’d actually completely forgotten writing that until a friend reminded me about it the other day (basically asking ‘I thought you didn’t like glitter WHAT HAPPENED?’), and I had lots of complicated feelings about it that I failed to articulate at the time. So I’m going to try again.

Ohio Murder Shines National Spotlight On LGBT Violence: Kendall L. Hampton, a 26-year-old gender non-conforming person, was found dead in Cincinnati late Saturday night.
The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs is calling attention to the fatal shooting of Kendall L. Hampton, a gender non-conforming person who had allegedly engaged in acts of sex work.
The 26-year-old victim was discovered in the parking lot of a Cincinatti convenience store last Saturday, reported FOX19. Hampton was pronounced dead later that night at the city’s University Hospital. Police are currently searching for the gunman.
The NCAVP, along with the Buckeye Region Anti-Violence Organization, is working to determine if gender identity or race were motivators in the crime. Apart from Hampton, the organization has learned of the murders of eight people this year who identified as transgender or were gender non-conforming.
According to a recent report by NCAVP, 87% of the 30 reported hate murder victims in 2011 were LGBT people of color. The organization encourages those affected by violence to contact their nearest anti-violence program, which may be found on its website.
To contact police regarding Kendall Jackson, call (513) 352-3040.

NYC GSM Tip #1
Be cautious with cops. Some might be friendly or nice and all are not out to get you, but NYC cops have a reputation for scrupulous behavior, unlawful search and seizure and violence against queers(especially trans women) and people of color(PoC).
Know your rights:
You can be approached at any time on the street by a police officer. You don't have to answer their questions. You can say "Am I free to go?" If the answer is yes, walk away slowly with your hands visible. If the answer is no, you are being detained.
The police can detain you for a reasonable period of time if they have a reasonable suspicion that they can explain (not just a hunch or a profile) that you were involved in a crime. If they think you might have a weapon on you they can pat down your outer clothing - they can't go in your pockets or ask you to take off any clothes. Do NOT empty your pockets voluntarily - this will be considered to be a "consent" search - but don't pull away when the officer tries to go in them. Just say "I don't consent to this search" to protect your rights later. They can ask you questions designed to find out if they have a good reason to arrest you (probable cause to believe that you committed a crime). YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS. YOU CAN SAY - AM I FREE TO GO? If they say yes, walk away slowly, with your hands where the officer can see them. If they say no, then you should say I AM GOING TO REMAIN SILENT. I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK TO AN ATTORNEY. And then you have to STAY SILENT, even if the cops don't read you your rights, or they are just talking among themselves. Anything you say will be used against you.

Teacher Tips: transphobia and cissexism are never okay and are just as hurtful as homophobia and heterosxism. Feel encouraged to step up and speak against them.

Quote
Not being racist is not some default starting position. You don’t simply get to say you’re not a racist; not being racist — or a sexist or a homophobe — is a constant, arduous process of unlearning, of being uncomfortable, of eating crow and being humbled and re-evaluating. It’s probably hard to start that process if you’ve been told that every thought you have is golden and should be given voice, and that people who are offended by what you say are hypersensitive simpletons.

These are the companions to the sexuality cards I created a few weeks ago: GENDER BUSINESS CARDS.
Fuck yeah.
The opposite side to these cards are pronoun based, like the final image. I have pronoun sets of:
She/Her
He/Him
They/Them
Ze/Hir
Ey/Em
These pronoun set will be uploaded in a separate post since tumblr only allows for 10 images per photoset.
To get the whole “business card experience,” print your two selected cards double-sided. Cut them out, and bam. You’re in business. (I’m so sorry for the pun. It was necessary.)
Thank you to everyone in the trans*, genderqueer, and beyond communities for teaching me and helping me on my journey! Your help was greatly appreciated, and these would have never been possible without the people who contacted me and gave me advice and guidance. You guys rock!

I'd like to help out as a mod. A lot of the stuff I post/have posted overlaps with the blog and it would be a good way to collate things and get the word out. Also feeling very unproductive lately in terms of activism.
Sure do you know what you would like to contribute?
Also would you like to contribute to advice/experince also?

So if you have time please check out the new layout!
Comments and criticism are welcome.  It is about 50% done, still tweaking some things before it is ready to start churning our posts and already have some hopefuls for moderators.
So please check it out and pass it along if you can.

Sorry for the delay peeps. Trying to get this off the ground is proving to be a bit harder than it looks.
Thinking of putting my personal blog on hiatus to finish assembling this one.

Cool, a big influx of followers. Please spread as much as possible.
Going to try and get this off the ground by sunday.
Going to have my partner(bf) and friends help me do some actual coding for the blog this weekend and make some design changes.
Thinking of putting in some Faqs pages about the blog itself and a few other resources like a queer dictionary, explanation of what privilege is, what triggers are, mod bios, maps of nyc, locations for shelters/centers/activities/testing areas, links to other helpful queer groups.

Please message if you are interested in being a moderator.
So I created a new tumblr blog for Gender and Sexuality Minorities (LGBTQQIA) in NYC.
http://gsmnyc.tumblr.com/
It is going to be full of blogposts about living in NYC as Queer PoC, helpful advice, news, resources, politics, entertainment and more.
So if you would like to please follow it.
I am also looking for more perspectives from other NYC tumblr users to contribute and moderate. You must be a member of the GSM spectrum and live in NYC to be a Mod/submit. You must also be supportive to all aspects of the GSM spectrum, recognize privilege where you have it(and understand intersectionality) and try very hard not to contribute to (but not limited to) Transphobia, homophobia, cissexism, sexism, body policing, slut shaming, prude shaming, racism, and ableism.
I am however claiming this blog as a queer space. So sorry not accepting hetrosexual allies, hetero-romantic asexuals, heterosexual polyamorous people at this time. But please feel free to follow anyway and pass on helpful stuff if you are an ally. Just please respect queer spaces.
Please reblog/signal boost.
