Rest In Peace, my sweet Toby. #toby #lhasashihtzu #rescuedog #dontshopadopt A few months after 9/11, I saw Toby on #petfinder He was surrendered to Brooklyn Animal Care & Control on Valentine's Day at the age of 3 due to a breakup. He was a stinky, matter little creature, but nonetheless the sweetest dog that I had ever met. I took him to the closest vet office, which happened to be on Park Ave, the day after I adopted him. The young vet informed me that Toby must have gotten an infection after his neutering and had a 108 fever. Knowing that my options were either to return him to the shelter (where he would probably be out down) or to cover costs over $2000 in emergency vet care, the kind, young veterinarian handed me some medication at no charge. "If he doesn't have a fever in the morning, he's in the clear." Toby was able to fight off the infection, and he has given me 15 years of his unconditional love. Yes, we (adopters) save dogs lives, but the truth is that they save ours just as much as we do theirs... #unconditionallove
