I wish I could have fallen in love with the guy...

I didn't have to give a million chance to

The guy who loved me when I had the inability to love him too

The guy who always put me first

(I was always his first choice)

Even as I put him second, third and even last

The guy who always made me smile

Always made me feel special

Even as I downplayed his position in my life

I wish I didn't chase after the guy...

Who I thought was perfect for me

The guy who hurt me and manipulated me into believing that it was my fault

Shattered my ability to decipher my feelings

Made me feel special after he's messed up

Cutting me with words I'm still bandaging up

And denied to others who I was to him

Instead, I fell for the guy...

Who mentally and verbally abused me

Encouraged me and also turned around and discouraged me

Who hid his demons

And lashed out on me for trying to protect him from himself

The guy who said he wanted to grow with me

But continued to divide our life together

Leaving me to yearn for the life with the guy

I never had to give a million chances to

What I feel for you.

I can't explain.

You have me dangling from a 4 letter word.

And it drives me insane.

That I endured such pain.

But I won't complain.

About how it tears me apart.

Crippling me and breaking my heart.

Because I'm so attached to the thought of having you.

Being the best woman for you and me too.

That I fight with the idea of losing you.

Because I could see myself marrying you.

So I hold on to the pros.

Hoping someday they'll outweigh the cons.

And you will finally see my love language.

That I've been giving you all this time.

So you can love me the way I needed to be loved.

So I can finally receive what I've been giving you all of these years...

I think of you pulling me up to dance with you

And you whispering to me "I love you too"

I think of our deep conversations and the smile that crosses your face

I think of you holding me close and kissing my forehead

I think of the poems that we've written to each other throughout the years

I think about how you've conquered all of my fears

I realize now that it will never come true

Our love wasn't what I thought it would be

Never thought that after all of these years you weren't in love with me

I was just an empty void in your life

Begging to be your wife

Because we created this life together

We called it forever

A place that I thought that I would always be
