Boromir thinks he's taking care of Merry and Pippin, but what he doesn't realize is that they're taking care of him, too.

Have said it before and will say it again: If Frodo had actually been able to throw the Ring into the Fire by himself, that would’ve meant he was some kind of Superman. The point of Frodo is he’s NOT Superman. He’s a regular ordinary guy who volunteers to do the impossible.

My superpower is that I am chronically immune to caring about anything and everything regarding the Kardashians, in both positive and negative sense. I mean, people will be like "Oh, no! Modern women have Kendall Jenner as their idol instead of [instead an inspirational female figure]!!!" and my only response is "Okay, then don't be friends with those women. I manage to avoid them just fine."

Sometimes I randomly remember that Boromir only went to Rivendell in the first place because the road there from Gondor was full of perils and he didn’t want his beloved little brother to walk that dangerous path so he took the task upon himself like he took every task upon himself to spare Faramir and I just break down.

"Especially since Starks and Targaryens aren't currently at odds" but they are at odds. For the fandom. Which is why these bad faith takes see the light of day unfortunately and why Jon's connection to Ned and Rhaegar is treated as a competition because apparently we didn't read the same books.
I don't know why targ haters/ Rhaegar haters believe that Jon connecting to his biological father is a betrayal to Ned's memory but it's a bad take, imo. It's not a competition.
Jon will always feel closer to Ned than to Rhaegar AND Lyanna bc the former raised him for the first fourteen years of his life while unfortunately he never got to meet his biological parents. But it's not like Lyanna or Rhaegar simply abandoned Jon to Ned's care. The reason they weren't around to raise him up is because they died. Had they lived, they would have been the ones to raise their son.
When Jon finds the truth about his parentage it's very possible that he want to know more about Rhaegar and Lyanna and even want to connect with their legacies. And no, that won't be a betrayal to Ned's memory bc wanting to connect with your biological parents doesn't automatically mean that you love your adoptive one any less.
Jon doesn't have to choose, he is a Stark AND a Targaryen (he's more importantly a Snow but that's a conversation for another post). Connecting with the Targaryen side of his family and even embracing that identity if he wants to doesn't mean that he will have to cut ties with his Stark side of family. Especially since Starks and Targaryens aren't currently at odds and it's extremely unlikely they will be at odds at the end of the series.

I come back because now I have calmed down enough to articulate an actual argument. The common trait between Rhaenyra and Mustafa is that they are both first born "legitimate" heirs that got executed as a result of the efforts of another faction lead by the second wife, to put it very vaguely. I get that. My problem with the Rhaenyra-Mustafa comparison is that it renders Rhaenyra's gender irrelevant to the dynamic as if both situations are equivalent, as if it's the same reasons that motivated the execution of Mustafa and the execution of Rhaenyra. It's not the same reasons. In MC, Mustafa had to be eliminated because of the fratricide law. In FxB, Rhaenyra had to be eliminated because she was a woman. This extremely important parameter is erased in this comparison. This is of course done on purpose to showcase the tragedy of the vilified woman in both situations (Hurrem and Alicent) and I consider this especially provocative since the main theme of Fire x Blood is precisely the vilification of a woman for daring to challenge a male heir. It's not that I don't see the parallels between Rhaenyra and Mustafa, it's that I am angered by the intentional erasure of their much more important differences which is done in bad faith and puts Rhaenyra in a far more privileged position than she actually was. I hope this is more clear.
My girl Rhaenyra being compared to the Undisputed Rightful Heir Unfairly Killed and Eternally Mourned Prince Mustafa when the main premise of her story is that no matter how good or special or charismatic Rhaenyra was she would never ever compete with the sacred legitimacy of the Holy Male Heir Aegon II and her entire legacy was smeared for even daring to challenge this and two centuries later she is still considered a whore and a traitor because she broke the Andal Custom "She was daughter to one king and mother to two more, yet she died a traitor's death for trying to usurp her brother's crown. It is law. Law, Davos. Not cruelty" like I get that we can all have opinions and I get that everyone is entitled to their wrong opinion but there is a point where going through the tags becomes a horrifying experience. Like you cannot possibly be so unserious

I don't know if anyone needs to hear this but ExR shipping frenzy is not (merely) a by-product of the musical and it's not because they cast a good looking Grantaire. I have never watched the musical in my life and I found out who George Blagden was last year, but I've shipped them since I was 14. It's in the book. They just have an objectively unparalleled dynamic, in the book, and it is normal that people are drawn to it. It's not mischaracterization and it is definitely not the musical.

There is no feeling in the entire world that can compare to the relief of being able to buy more time for a task you have procrastinated on for ages. Literal lifeline. Even if you already know you're gonna waste every second of the extra time you have been offered.
