Sometimes I hate myself for getting so obsessed with fantasy because it just makes me realize my life will never be so adrenaline-pumping and exciting. So instead I play my silly little games and listen to goofy podcasts and watch dramatic movies and long for a world I’ll never know.

Scary saying “I don’t know why I can’t be her again” hits so fucking hard because god, why did she have to grow up so fast, to become this person who is so overwhelmed by fear and sadness and anger that she can’t be who she once was? The girl so full of joy and life and hope and love? Link says she is still that person, but that’s just not true — Scary is not and will never be that person again because she has fundamentally changed, and fuck do those growing pains ache. ESPECIALLY when you know that the person you once were is someone who everyone liked more.

The feeling of growing up, of experiencing so much of the unimaginable, of knowing that you can never go back to who you once were. It’s crippling, knowing that you were once so happy and easy-going and alive — that you had so much and you didn’t even know it — and knowing that you have lost that capacity forever, but not knowing why or when it happened and hating yourself because how could you let this happen? It’s the most painful part of growing up, and fuck, if Scary/Beth didn’t capture that in one fucking sentence.
