reblog and make a wish! this was removed from tumbrl due to “violating one or more of Tumblr’s Community Guidelines”, but since my wish came true the first time, I’m putting it back. :)

6 to 10 garbage bags worth of litter for the # of people that float down that channel in the summer time actually seems pretty minimal, especially considering the number of empties that probably hit the bottom. I know you wrote that post like ages ago, but I just read it now haha :) Hopefully they don't start doing reports like that about the amount of empties in Skaha. They'll end up shutting the lake down too! haha
They said "garbage bins" if it were bags, there would be no leg to stand on. They make great money with their business catering to tipsy tourists. There is at most times a more basic solution, like, maybe before letting people go in the water (the paying people who float down and use the shuttle service) make it clear that there is no glass or aluminum cans allowed when using the service. (people using the shuttle service seem like they make up the majority of the population using our wonderful man made channel feature haha! Thanks for the reply :)

baffle them with dog sh*t
As I reading the news this morning, I discovered that the "special levy" for the floating down the river company has been lifted.
This got my attention of course.
1. I think that to lift anything, you have to set it in place first.
2. this confused me.
I read on only to find some astonishing stats!! They read like this:
The people floating down the channel produce 6 to 10 large garbage bins full of refuse a year.
what does  this mean? what dimensions? and who's been counting? is there a garbage bin counter working for this company?
but wait! my favorite part was the next line!
another 2 bins worth of dog feces! who's taking enough dogs down the channel to account for 2 large garbage bins of dog poop?
This is incredible! how many litres of dog poop does this mean?
millions and millions of dog poo everywhere!! ahh!!!!!
changing the subject slightly, last time I floated down the channel, I noticed garbage bags full of empties from people putting them in a garbage can designated for recycling!
so on top of wanting to charge money for cleaning up millions of litres of dog poo from the channel and saving the day, they are making money for doing nothing!
Let me know what you think. Am i out of line?

In My Opinion
If you live in Penticton, you know about floating down the channel.  you have you system down, where you go through the motions smoothly and seamlessly, or not. Maybe it's a fiasco, and at the end of the lazy, carefree tom sawyer advent, you or one of your fellow tipsy companions forgets their keys, or you forget to drop off a vehicle at the end of it, etc.
But who cares? it's part of the fun of captaining a magnificiant voyage down a ribbon of gravity assisted lakewater.
This is one of the reasons why people come from far and wide to visit this sleepy little town in the summertime. It's one of its few lifelines to support an inflow of currency (get it?)
If you and your family are from out of town and don't know how the logistics of floating the channel works, or can't figure it out, or (most likely case) just want to not care because your on vacation and just want more beer and palm bay!  You will most likely come across a website for a company that brings out the pirate in you and provides a sherpa service for your adventurous family.
for the low low price of 12 dollars a person, you to can use an unwashed, old used tire tube to float down a small man made "river" and then get to ride back up to the start point in a smelly, over crowded school bus full of drunks. Seems like the dream right? well if your the unselfish type, you will automatically do the math in your head for your family of 5, because little jimmy can't afford the 12 bucks (you'll get him back later when he's a hockey player) and there is 60 dollars gone!
BUT WAIT! theres more!
This company decided it wants to help your "experience" by charging an extra $2 for cleaning up after you too. so this is now $70 for an hour's float and a bus ride back up (i'd rather hitch hike!)
Lets be honest. They are making money. Why do they feel the need to charge more to clean up after us? we aren't a bunch of babies that need our diapers changed (unless you are a baby, then I fully understand your situation, I was once there too. I dont' discriminate)
Have a nice summer!

Hey, I just was offered a job in Penticton. So naturally I Googled 'life in Penticton ' and discovered your tumblr. I am 21 and am just finishing school. I have lived in Barrie and downtown Toronto for most of my life. Kind of going out on a limb here I know, but is life in Penticton for a young person such as yourself enjoyable? Thanks!
Thank you for your question! if you like the outdoors, and enjoy hiking, biking, rock climbing or skiing/snowboarding, then this might be the place for you!
It's a beautiful place to call home for sure, and theres always alot to do here. if it gets boring, vancouver is 3.5 hours drive away, and kelowna is 45 minutes. give me a follow, and like the fb page if you want ;) https://www.facebook.com/PentictonLIFE

snake in the grass
Since moving to Penticton, i've been involved with working on an old classic of a trail that used to be the highlight of anyones visit to Penticton.
Like anything, it needs care and attention to keep it alive. Things wear out, technology changes, if something isn't maintained it falls behind and gets lost in the dust and foliage of time.
Now we've created a masterpiece of work out of an old falling apart trail.
The snake sheds it's old skin, revealing a smooth, (fast) shiny new armor.
We are stoked to keep on building with bigger plans in the future!
cough cough, apex dh track, cough...
for now enjoy Code 4 in the Peat Bog/Carmi Area while its still fresh!!
(check out the jumps before hitting them)

the confusion of it all.
Here I am, walking down the street in the dark at 5:30. cold, yet still sweaty from the gym. I needed this, I needed to slow life down. It's been getting to be too much. Cramming everything I can into every last second of the day isn't anything short of exhausting.
Running around as usual at work. putting out fires, while in the back of my mind, day dreaming and going over my head my blossoming investment portfolio, while at the same time considering going to the gym as well as training for next race season.
Stop.
listen to your internal dialogue. let your thoughts free. don't keep them hostage anymore. drift from one thought or idea to the next. Don't force and form ideas into things right now. just let it all go.
All of a sudden, I was a kid again, walking down the street at night, seeing the lights on inside the homes, feeling the warmth of the light pouring out into the streets.  Breathing in the cool night air, confused, yet satisfied as how it could be warm enough to be comfortable near the end of November. I felt melancholy and alone, yet warm and happy.
I realized, wow, i'm old now. what happend? has everything been worth it? has every choice I made so far the best choice for me in my life? ah well. i'm here. I may as well just keep on living, I can't imagine being anywhere else right now, except maybe costa rica for a week or two!
Tumblr media
So many feelings rush in when you're 28. You've got a lot to look forward to, and you have no choice but to appreciate the mistakes and lessons your youth provides. No matter where you are, especially right now, weather your rich, poor, just lost something or just gained something, you're here. right now. Enjoy it!!
Be content with where you are.
