i know people focus on "she tied you to her kitchen chair" but i think it's important to take both lines in concert. early in the song we are presented with the speaker's lamentation of a lover participating in a BDSM scene with another woman. the final verse begins with the speaker's quiet acknowledgement of the past epiphany where they realised their relationship with sexual pleasure.

other lines such as "i told the truth / i didn't come here to fool you" carry the sense that the speaker resents being misunderstood. they want to draw the "hallelujah" from the lips of their lover, but "it all went wrong". later in the song, a pegging scene is described ("remember when i moved in you") and they reinforce in this moment that, while they don't experience direct stimulation through the strap, "every breath [they] drew was hallelujah", I.E. the experience was nonetheless satisfying for both partners

the only believable explanation for this is that Leonard Cohen was a stone butch
