My happy place is…

Somewhere deep in the mountains, inside a cabin sheltered by trees. I am curled up in blankets as my wet hair drys [wet hair that I got from surrendering to my inner child as they played in a nearby stream].

I’m calm as I stare out of the windows; taking in the heavy rain as it races itself down glass, feeling the steam coming from the cup cradled in my palms, the sound of thunder mixed with our shallow breathing.

When it’s just dark enough to miss stolen glances, the settling of my aching bones from the afternoon swim mixes tenderly with the burnt taste of peppermint that lingers on my tongue, I hold tight the body that is deeply tucked into my side.
