My friend is hosting monthly art challenges, and this month’s prompt is “Cringey Self-Indulgence.” I knew immediately I had to draw my og anime husband of 20+ years.

I haven’t drawn him in almost a decade, not since I met Eric Vale (the Eng VA for Trunks) at a convention. I named this piece “Telling my supportive buff husband I got accepted to art school.” You’re welcome, younger me. 😎✨

I'm really proud of what I was able to contribute to Funguary 2024!

Between life, work, twisting an ankle, and getting sick twice this month, I'd say 5 fully rendered characters (just for FUN) isn't bad! This challenege is meant to be fun and low pressure, and that's what I let it be :)

Even without the other species, this would be a solid DND party!

Day 4 of #funguary is Pulvia, an Aasimar party member designed after "Cystolepiota pulverulenta", and I have no idea what dnd class you'd put a magical girl in, but she was so much fun to draw! I'm pretty sure this is our team leader here. She has no issue taking action and taking charge with unshakable confidence and grace. Pulvia is incredibly dutiful and goal-oriented, though her biggest struggle is turning off her overactive mind to unwind and enjoy herself.

I cannot express just how much I love how these two turned out! Meet our combo companions "Feather" (Turkey Tail) and her familiar "Minobi" (Filoboletus Manipularis.)

Feather is a friendly, fun-loving witch who travels with her fox familiar and loyal companion Minobi. Both are resourceful, incredibly curious, and cannot resist a good mystery. You can normally find them high up in trees, either darting around on limbs or leaping through the air. They make a great scouting team, though Feather's ability to focus can be a bit of a gamble. You can trust that her heart is in everything she does 100%. And wherever she goes, a quiet but playful Minobi follows.

Fun fact, "Minobi" is a Japanese word meaning "raincoat fire," named after a phenomenon where bioluminecent fungi grew on straw coats dampened by rain. The glow became frequent during the rainy season, and was later incorporated into yokai lore as "orbs of ghostly fire" that floated around bodies of water and attacked travelers. There are some connections to foxes as well.

All of this led me to making the most adorable little fairy fire demon spirit, who has probably been known to start a mischievous fire or two when aggrivated.

Also, I did not expect everything to come out so Halloween-coded, but here we are, and I'm obsessed. 🎃🦊

Day 2's prompt for #funguary2024 is "Lilac Coral Fungus" (Clavaria zollingeri). It can be be found on different continents, though it's more commonly in North America.

My characters for this prompt are conjoined sisters "Ly" and "Laq." They specialize in martial arts and classify as something between a monk and paladin. Towering over the rest of their teammates, they are happy to deal most of the meele damage on the battlefield, using their strength and staves of holy light to tank through most fights. While they both share a serious nature and intense connection to their spirituality and training, Ly tends to be more socially engaging while Laq tends to prefer quiet observation. They genuinely get along and work together in unison, blending their similarities and differences to become an absolute powerhouse of controlled force.

But don't let their intimidating stature, skill, and personalities stop you from getting to know them. They are fiercely protective of those they care about and are not afraid to relax around those who have earned their trust.

I'm a bit behind, but here's mushy #1 for the #FUNGUARY art challenge by @feefal! His name is "Cyano" and designed after "Mycena Subcyanocephala," a teeny tiny lil thing, found in Taiwan (photo by Eric Cho on IG). They are one of the smallest mushrooms discovered.

Cyano is something between a druid and a cleric, using his dew staff mostly for healing. He rarely speaks and is "just a lil guy," but has more wisdom and spells than anyone in his group and is not to be underestimated.

Did I say "group?" Becuase I accidentally made an entire Celestial themed DnD party + an npc for Week 1 of this challenge. Oops.

Both of my styluses/styli? Stopped working and I couldn’t use my XP Pen tablet, and I’m in the middle of projects for other people. I was stressed out for two days. I managed to get ONE working again and almost cried. I made art for myself out of joy.
