BBC 6 Festival Throwback to Julia Jacklin supporting Belle & Sebastian @ O2 Academy 26th March 2017. This was my personal favourite; a cover of The Strokes’ “Someday” which I had the pleasure of hearing at the end of February in King Tuts. It was beautifully executed and once again I loved it even more at the academy as I felt it was toned down a lot more than last time and sounded easy going and chill. I really feel there’s a good a connection with Julia and her touring band throughout the whole performance, they all have a good rhythm and sound so lovely! you can still watch the set here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p04wv7vh/the-6-music-festival-julia-jacklin one week left to view! Setlist: Hay Plain Lead Light Motherland LA Dream Small Talk Coming of Age Someday (Strokes cover) Pool Party Don’t Let The Kid’s Win Also apologies for the quality being a bit shit, it was better on my phone but wouldn’t load on the damn app !

Superfood @ King Tut's Wah Wah Hut 19/3/2017 (right support by Pale Waves)
setlist: Double Dutch Lily For Your Pad To Rest on You Can Believe Bubbles I Can’t See (or sing, new track) Natural Super Soul (new track) Where’s the Bass At (new track) Right on Satellite Superfood
Starting with Pale Waves, a swimmingly good band from Manchester who I think kept a great mellow vibe throughout the set. For those who like the 1975 and jaws, they would really enjoy these guys! Shame that there wasn’t much of a crowd, but they still went ahead with their mermaidy and upbeat love/heartbreak induced songs and put on a good performance. Then arrives superfood and what took me a while to realise was not emily baker, which saddened me greatly. Starting with their new single double dutch it brought the crowd in well, Dom then continues with 2 tracks off their 2014 album Don’t Say That and then sounding happy to be back in Tut’s once more greets the crowd and plays in my opinion one of the best songs of the setlist Bubbles. They then went onto play three new songs, which sound good but definitely need room for improvement as I felt it was just being back in the many flats and rooms they’d been in trying to make the songs, which although is authentic at best. The new bassist who I felt was slightly robotic at times I felt got a run for her money when Dom took over her guitar to play Where’s the Bass At, the third and final new song they played. In my opinion; their Tut’s debut in December 2015 was a much better performance than this one, and not to say they were terrible I just think superfood has so much more to offer and I thought it was a shame the crowd wasn’t as big or as wild as it was before when they ended the set with the song that defines them best (not cause of its self titling) Superfood. Overall, the band certainly gave a great performance and despite only a couple people in the crowd either disrupting people’s enjoyment or potentially trying to get everyone into the music and dance around, I would definitely see them again if they tour with the new album (which I’m very excited to hear the outcome).

Julia jacklin @ King Tut's Wah Wah Hut 27/2/2017 setlist: Hay Plain Leadlight Motherland Cold Caller Sweet Step (solo) LA Dream (solo) Elizabeth Eastuck Small Talk Coming of Age Pool Party Don’t Let the Kids Win (solo) ENCORE: Someday (Strokes Cover)
Starting the show off with hay plain, julia jacklin and crew set the mood of easy Monday night listening, performing her debut album along with new songs to be released, her voice could break hearts and lull kids to sleep. from ‘LA Dream’ to 'Don't Let the Kids Win’ every time I hear them without fail, I get very teary eyed, DLTKW is reminiscent and nostalgic and I thank Julia for having such a song that makes me think forward into the future and relate myself to that song so clearly, each line portrays in my family life and puts me in her shoes when it is sung. Then going from the upbeat singles to the slow come down of the night, the group then ended the night with a stripped back cover of The Strokes 'Someday' which I had my doubts to begin with but as soon as the band came together and you could see the enjoyment in their faces, I felt very happy to be there and didn't want the song to end. Julia Jacklin's folksy and soft voice is one to hear and I'm very excited to see her play again with Whitney once more and the brilliant Belle and Sebastian! (And another time after that this year..) I hope to hear more great tracks from her soon. Second photo creds to: @denizenartists on instagram

Song of the day: Mac Demarco // My Old Man
This week my Canadian fave released two very nice, easy listening tracks along with an album and a world tour announcement.  My Old Man struck out for me from the two for it’s relatable lyrics and being emotionally connecting, I also feel it’s similar sounding to My Kind of Woman and gives some conveyance that Demarco as a people pleaser is singing about pleasing the people in his life (his “woman” potentially, his old man in retrospect etc.) It’s rather worldsy in comparison to his other songs, in regards to the soft guitar and keyboard and percussion instruments.  Definitely gives the impression of softer makeout videotape meets his demo tracks.
I'm honestly looking forward to hearing the new album when it’s out and I cannot wait to see him perform at Primavera festival along with his tour in Edinburgh on August 30th.

2016 in Gigs - My Top 5
(Maybe reflect on more over the next few days cause I did see a LOT) Spring King 9/2/16  ★ ★ ★ ★  ⭑ Went to Broadcast to see them for the first time and they were unbelievable, still thinking about that cover of oblivion by grimes that they did...  Here’s my review lol
Belle & Sebastian 13/6/16  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★  Been around a bit longer than I have lived (in a good way) as they’ve attracted an audience of all ages! I was so lucky to had been given tickets to see them because they absolutely set the bar high for me! I am having withdrawals. Here’s another review
M83 27/6/16  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I turned up just as they started with reunion, I ran straight to the front of the band and stood there in awe the whole time it was performed. I danced, I swayed, I even cried a little. I waited so long for the right time to see them and despite not seeing them play king tuts or the arches, O2 ABC fitted them so well, it was meant to be.
Whitney 5/11/16  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Saddened that their venue changed from CCA as I’ve not yet experienced a gig there, I hadn’t been to art school’s venue for a gig either! This did not drop my spirits. After a beautiful performance from Julia Jacklin, we waited a very long time for them (all thinking they were busy drinking or something), Julien Ehrlich comes on stage angered due to tech problems, this again did not drop my spirits they played excellently and I was moved by every word sang and every note played. I am so excited to see them perform again at Primavera, also Julia Jacklin performing King Tuts in February!
Honeyblood 8/12/16  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Local beauties. I remember how angry I was over a year ago that I had just gotten into them and discovered they were playing King Tuts. None the less I went to St Lukes and had an amazing time! I remember a girl in front shouting abuse to her boyfriend about how shit they’d got and how it’s all gotten to their heads; but she couldn’t have been more wrong, they had a killer set (no puns) and I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in Scottish bands/indie punk music for misunderstood teens/grans you name it they’re excellent! Babes never die!

was glad to see drowners a couple of weeks ago, the new album is so different to the first and it's great! Saddens me though to think the fan base has slightly gone to their heads after seeing them during and after the show..

Last week I experienced an unusually brilliant gig yet again from broadcast; Colleen Green & Cassie Ramone 27/9/16 Cassie Ramone comes on stage, everyone eager to hear vibes of a heartbroken, self conscious college girl; possibly not over a break-up weeks/months/years on. She sits on her amp and tunes her acoustic and near demands us all to sit down, during the process of awkward coughing and moving around I wondered why she was doing this? I understood afterwards that despite it being an acoustic set, she didn't just give me the heartbreak vibe. Through the harsh vocals and taking a shot part way through the set, she gave me the impression of a drunk and stressed out mother trying to "lull" her kids to sleep. With that being said Cassie sang through beady attention grabbing eyes and a thick smile to give us the impression she's okay.. But she's really not. That's why I loved her set, every moment of it you were still confused from the seating demand but questioning if this was all her act, I like when they leave you to wonder if this is genuinely the artist we are looking through or just a made personality. Next up we had Colleen, similar vibe to Cassie except once she threw on the shades and electric guitar you knew she was suggesting the point of "I'm over it, fuck them, fuck you guys and I'm gonna prove I'm better and cooler." The odd difference of the two sets was I felt Cassie was a bit rushed in her performance where as Colleen's gritty punk rock ambience felt like the set was 2 hours long (don't get me wrong I'd kill for that). Giving us songs we could enjoy/ relate to, to humorous explanations of songs about buses; Colleen really shown a side of what she was like, this was like getting to know her in a way. All in all, absolutely great gig wouldn't have had it another way. The way it was meant to be portrayed couldn't have been done any better, highly recommend them and going to one of their gigs.

Freakout Honey + Marble Gods @ Nice ‘N’ Sleazy 21/9/16
Last week I went to see my friends Marble Gods support the unusual surfy pysch/ garage band. Having only starting the band properly around the start of the year, they've really come together nicely! Despite the leave of their drummer and becoming a 3 piece; they still work really well and still have a good drummer in the band and I love to hear them play! Always recommend people to listen to Marble Gods and go see them if they’re playing the local glasgow scene eh (would relate to listeners of Yuck, Varsity or Honeyblood).
I briefly caught FAIIDES and again from what I heard they were killing it! (gd thing honest) It was such a shame to see not many people had turned up to this gig because this band were definitely worth a listen to also!
Then we have freakout honey, the headline I would have enjoyed much more if there were less students being “spontaneous” and coming to a gig to rip the piss out of the crowd the whole set. Despite that being said, their sound was very psychadelic and as I say unusual but to a good ear, they use that quality well. The singer not giving a fuck and dancing around the small crowd of people with her tambourine really made the scene for me as well, I enjoy a band that can get involved around the crowd in their own ways.
A really nice thought during the gig was the 3 bands that performed all had female influence in them which can be rare and I really liked that about the gig on the whole, everyone did a great performance!

5/9/16 The Parrots @ Broadcast
I recently was interested by this group because of their twin peaks meets hinds sound. Despite the band being more hyped than the crowd were at them playing, I still thought they had a good thing going. By the end of the night with promises of playing extra songs the crowd started to pick up and jump around and so did they. With catchy lyrics and music to get people dancing I would say they were worth my last minute decision of seeing!

Belle and Sebastian @ GUU Debating Hall 14/6/16
After Hearing them throughout my uncle’s “fan girl” days and wishing he would once see one of his favourite bands, I did the honour of doing so for him (sorry again Uncle David, you will see them some day x). I was so happy to see they were doing a few dates in their home city in time for the west end festival; playing old classics they don’t normally perform to recent songs from the mixed reviewed GIPTWTD (Girls in Peacetime Want To Dance). The crowd varied in true fans from the very start to young uns discovering that their parents actually have a decent taste in music. Every song, stage presence made and person in the crowd made the night excellent and it just got better and better as the night went on. My favourite moment in particular was when they played the song that gets everyone singing and moving to; The Boy with the Arab Strap which entailed Stuart Murdoch and co choosing audience members to the stage to dance along with them, they certainly got their moneys worth with that ticket! I always say you can’t come back from a comeback, but belle and sebastian never left and hopefully never will. Each album is a piece of gold and anyone that listens to them can pick at least one song that either relates to them or makes them feel something. They are definitely a band everyone needs to see.

Song of the day in tribute to the king Michael Jackson on his birthday!
out of all his releases, Off the Wall is definitely the album that I think showed everyone who Michael really was; Rock with You is such a jam and a groove classic that will never grow old. I will spend my lifetime having a solo boogie to this song.

In tribute to Gary Watson of The Lapelles.
This weekend a very talented young member in Glasgow was taken from us. It’s such a shame to see someone very genuine, kind and musically gifted leave us so soon in a tragic accident. I seen Gary’s band perform 13th note in March and since then the group had moved onto bigger and better heights in climbing to success. With a tour upcoming and supporting well known bands they were set to have their big break. My thoughts go out to his family, friends and the band; the effort they have made in tribute to Gary is amazing and it just goes to show their is kindness and respect in others; I'm sure he would greatly appreciate the sentiment. If you are near the priory bar on sauchiehall street tonight from 11pm (18/8/2016) come by to the gig being hosted in tribute, the entry donation is £10 to support Gary’s family during this upsetting time. I myself cannot attend and if you can’t either, there is also a link set up to donate HERE RIP Gary.
