You ever just get stuck by the silliest au idea and then suddenly its consumed your mind?
Anyway TMNT Princess Bride au
Most characters taken from the 2003 series, but personality of turtles might be closer to Rise series
(I wrote this in the notes of my phone so forgive typos and weird thought process lol)
Casey is buttercup. April is westly (Originally, and what inspired this whole thing. Was that karai was buttercup and Chapman was westley lol)
The turtle bros work for stockman (bishop?) Because he says he has he will help them find their father's killer. A man who has 3 scars along his chin.
Casey just a simple farmer (oh my god. The farm house) with April there to help feed chickens and milk cows and such and such (Would she only say as you wish?? Would she be that submissive? Idk. Maybe she would as long as he promised not to call her babe lol) (LMAO HER PHRASE IS DONT CALL ME BABE INSTEAD OF AS YOU WISH LOLOLOL)
Eventually she goes off to maybe get soem schooling or soemthing. But her ship gets [sunk/destroyed] by the Dread Pirate Krang. April doesn't return and after years Casey believes she died.
Then the local royalty happens to pass by and the princess (karai)(who is told needs to find a husband so she can finally become queen) decides to make Casey her groom.
Casey still in a depressive gloom doesnt do much to reject her.
One day when Casey is out on a run (one of his few joys) he gets kidnapped by 4 demihuman turtles . :D
But then. A stranger begins to follow them. A (wo)man in black
I've mostly been going from 03 inspiration of character. But the turtles might be a little more Rise based.
Leo is inigo foil. The master swordsman. And the banter. "You seem a decent fellow, I hate to kill you" "you seem a decent fellow. I hate to die" I am not left handed. He Asks april "ever seen a man with 3 scars along his chin?" "Do you ask everyone that question?
Raph is Fezzik . Big. The muscle. (Kind) Mikey doesnt have a direct foil. May have his own individual fight with april or possibly works with raph. The muscle and taunting words and stuff idk
Stockman is arrogant and thinks hes the smartest around. Accepts April's challenge.
Don is there to keep a hold on Casey. (He plays the game a long in his mind that it doenst actually take any posion). Once stockman is dead, Don just asks for th truth about what happen to the rest of his brothers, April tells him they are just knocked out and will be fine. He says he doenst really care about keeping casey as they were just doing it to work with stockman and well he's dead so no point. Bye crazy smart lady and sad prince to be. And he leaves to meet up with his brothers.
Cue april trying to lead casey away and him being like. Oh you're the pirate that killed the love of my life! Blah blah blah so you can shove it babe!
*falling down hill* doooon't caaaaaall me baaaaaaabe! Oh my sweet april ehat have I done!? *throws self down cliff*
They go through the forest (lmao splinter as rous) (not actually but the image is funny)
And Karai and her advisor Oroku Saki meet them and casey begs her to let april go instead of killing her.
April notes that the advisor has 3 scars a long his chin. That's right. Shredder is what's his face and killed splinter. (Sorry splints. You had to die in this au)
April is taken to Bishop who experiments on his death machine. Just doing his job and having fun with his toys.
BUT
shredder shows up when he learns about the demihumans and asks too many questions about the demi humans shes ever encountered. (Theres a small but decent population in the kingdom) but especially that turtles she encountered last. April doesn't care (she does but more concerned about casey) and asks instead about casey and telling him shes never going to stop.
Karai may or may not visit April… idk. But honestly she doesnt really care about marrying casey but she needs to in order to get the crown.
Anyway its shredder who throws a hissy fit and cranks up the machine "killing" april
Meanwhile the turtles have regrouped but leo is super depressed because he failed and now theh have no lead on their father's killer. Brothers eventually pull him out of it.
They hear aprils cry?? They want "the woman in black" to help them??
Idk they go look for her
("Father guide my sword" is SUCH a thing Leo would do and the humor of it hitting the tree then opening the door is peak tmnt.)
Oh no shes dead
Enter miracle max. I mean the ancient one."she is only MOSTLY dead"
Tang shen: "I'm not a witch! I'm your daughter!" (Maybe. This might change)
They all have to push raph on the cart to break into the castle. Hun is the door keeper lol
Leo goes after shredder. Raph is hauling April around. Ikd what mikey and don are doing exactly. Maybe they split off to look for karai and/or casey
Leo: RAPH!! RAAAAPH. HE'S GETTING AWAY! RAPH
Raph: sighs and puts april down carefully and goes knocks down the door for leo. Comes back to everyone gone. "Now whered everybody go??"
April somehow gets to Casey's room. Casey is thrilled.
Karai shows up… idk. Ask why she really is doing this. Is it what she really wants? Or is it just what shredder has convinced her she needs to do (marry become queen go to war and take over other kingdoms)
Karai seems to consider it (maybe) but still cant have her groom just be carted off. April says okay let's fight then. I've taken on demihimans and been dead and came back, you really want to fight?
Karai considers and concedes. They tie her up so it doesnt look like she just wlt them go.
Karai let's them all leave and ends up marrying one of the chamber men[squire/stable boy/man servant] (is that a real term???) Chapman.
Leo don and mikey all catch up and somehow raph went and found them all horses to ride out on. Happily ever after
Cody is the grandson. Hamato yoshi/splinter is the grandfather

There is too little on Ninja Club. Do you have anything that you are willing to share?
I don't really have any wips (art or fic) for Ninja Club at the moment, but I can talk about some stuff i don't think i've mentioned before.
Like, series wise, Donny gets involved with the mouser shenanigans b/c on top of his part-time job at the tech store, he's also doing a minor, like once or twice a week, internship with Stockman.
He doesn't do much in the terms of helping develop the Mousers or anything. As far as Stockman's concerned, he's little more than an errand runner. But he gets paid (a little bit, he makes more at the tech store) and gets to observe the creation process of the mousers.
He also meets April there and spends most of his internship with her. She's more willing to explain what she's doing and answer questions while Stockman only notices him when he needs something.
So, when April got in trouble and chased down by mousers through the Sewers, Donny had been with her. Mikey saves the both of them, brings them to the new lair (after explaining what a nuisance the Mousers have been to them over the last few days), and Donny gets to meet their father for the second time.
After that, it's a toss up on whether they try to go about it like the normal episode (but with only 2 fighters instead of 4, b/c Rafa's in space, and Donny hasn't learned how to hit things with with a big stick yet). Or whether Donny turned out to have filmed the whole villain speech and subsequent attempted murder (b/c his mom does NOT trust her baby with scientists but doesn't want to tell him he couldn't do the internship. so an allowance for a camera on his person was put into his intership contract) and they just get his ass arrested for like a laundry list of things.
I kinda like the second one, b/c i think Donny would be a little more focused on trying to solve issues non-violently, particularly in season 1 where he hasn't (and refuses to) learn to fight yet. Plus it would be an interesting learning experience for Donny since Stockman, through the power of Oroku Saki, would get away with it.
That's all i got on the subject rn.
oh and one bonus, unrelated, fact (that i just remembered and thought was cute!)
Rafa goes by 'Rafa' b/c that was what Mikey and Donny called them when they were tiny. (Leo couldn't say that so he just called them Affa.) They don't remember this. They just know that for as long as they can remember, they've been called Rafa.
(When they all got separated and the Utroms asked his name, he said Rafa instead of Raphael. Same when he ended up with the Triceritons a couple years later. By the time their all reunited, Rafa doesn't remember being called anything else.)
Thank you!

[ oh boy this is going to be a long one. strap in fellas ]
∗ 10﹕ is  there  a  piece  of  your  character’s  canon  that  you  refuse  to  accept ?
[ I think the one that most prominently comes to mind is that I write Adachi as aroace, and the way he views his victims in canon is... arguable, I'd say. It's debated whether he actually lusted after Yamano and Saki - and that's something I personally disagree with.
I think Adachi experiencing any kind of romantic or sexual attraction, especially after his crimes, isn't something that would in any way help him improve, and I think the idea of "I'm expected to find women attractive and get laid, so this is just another thing this stupid society wants me to do, yet when I get rejected it's another way I'm not getting what I should be in the eyes of society" with Yamano, that in combination with "people get opportunity and talent given to them on a silver platter and everyone has things so much better than I do, so they shouldn't get to complain" with Saki is a much more complicated and nuanced motive.
Now, I don't think this is something Adachi can really vocalize, I think for a while he really does think he killed because he liked them because that's how he think he should feel and he's very emotionally stunted. ]
∗ 18﹕ which  of  your  verses  or  arcs  is  your  favorite  to  write  about ?
[ I. love writing arcanaswaps. I wonder if people know that-
No but seriously, getting to explore ideas of what Adachi would be like had he taken a different path in life is super interesting for me to write about more than any other muse I've written. I think Adachi is very much the product of his circumstances and changes drastically based on what kind of life he leads - like how much more carefree and childish he acts when he decides to become an actor in the Magician arcana verse, or how dedicated he becomes when he finds a purpose in a career in law in the Hierophant arcana verse.
I'm also a huge sucker for platonic relationships that help both characters become the best versions of themselves. I just gravitate towards that (I think the whole power of friendship is the elementary school teacher in me talking). I really really enjoy seeing Adachi grow because of the influence of people who, over time, become important to him, no matter the AU.
Familial relationships my beloved. The family my beloved. twin au my beloved. judgement siblings my beloved. i can go on for eons. ]
∗ 28﹕ what  is  a  turn - off  when  you’re  seeking  writing  partners ?
[ I'm going to be honest, I'm not much of a chat rp or like two sentence per reply threads kind of person. It's cool if you like that, but more dash comms than threads, text rps, or using discord threads as a part of canon really aren't my thing. It'll become apparent why by the next question.
Also, I'm kinda ehh on people who tend to really only focus on rp for ships, whether that's a multi ship or a single ship. When I write a character that doesn't ever interact with someone in that sense, I've had that experience where it felt like we just couldn't find a lot of depth in our dynamic. ]
∗ 33﹕ have  you  ever  been  in  the  middle  of  drama  in  the  rpc ?
[ ha ha ha...
Well, about a year and a half ago I was part of a group rp, and I've kind of made my distaste for it known as of late. It focused a lot on chat-style rp, as well as making things in discord (and with about 100 people in it and a full schedule, made it hard to keep up) canon. It was very exhausting trying to keep up with everything and stay involved with so many moving parts, and the mods not really wanting anyone else to join the mod team despite a growing player based because it would "ruin the surprise."
Speaking of the plot, it was incredibly, incredibly angst-heavy in discord. All of the time. With little to no levity. It quickly turned to lots of muses dumping about their trauma - and how characters who were portrayed in the verse were evil and wronged them, yet not ever changing that so that it was just muses crying and complaining and getting in arguments ad nauseum. It drove quite a few people away.
There was also some other stuff about mods making battle decisions that kind of screwed myself and some friends over "for the angst" and the battles being so angst heavy and telenovela-esque I dread even thinking about them.
I ended up leaving because there was a ship between an adult and a minor in the verse that was being defended by its writers and there was (rightfully) a big blowup about it. The group dissolved pretty soon after that. ]

can you talk about system tsukasa more because its very interesting /genuine
Twirls hair he's just like me fr
Okay so I forget exactly what I've said on the topic so far, but I know I at least got into his disassociative symptoms some. So today I'm gonna psychoanalyze his sekai :))
Sekais are hella interesting to me. The only canon explaination we have is that A.) they are formed by emotions, B.) you access them by playing a specific song. That leaves soooo much room to play with. Are the sekais actually in the phones? Who fuckin knows. If so, I can only imagine how much data they take up
As to what we can gather from the game, it makes Tsukasa's sekai stand out a lot. I've seen people point out that it's infinite as one of its unique qualities, but that's not 100% the case. All of the sekais are seemingly endless. LN's has infinite classrooms, MMJ's infinite stages, and VBS has endless alleyways to explore. While N25's is usually put in the same category as WxS's, they are direct opposites in their infiniteness, which I think is what makes both an exception (aside from being made by just one person, obviously). The other three have an equal balance of change and sameness. Mafuyu's sekai reflects her emotions in that it's an endless nothingness. There is nothing unique for as long as you walk around in it. But I'll psychoanalyze Mafuyu another day.
Tumblr media
Tsukasa's sekai is fucking insane. Even in the illustration we get, there's I think ten wildly different areas/attractions. And from what we hear in card stories/events, that's not even half of it. There's circus tents, flower fields, flying trains, I think a forest if I remember right. And it's reasonable to assume that all of this is a manifestation of how he coped with his trauma growing up. He put on a happy face, he entertained, he distracted.
Most systems I've heard from have one of two categories of headspace. Either an empty void (cough Mafuyu cough), or a whole goddamn mansion/planet/city/etc. Which as far as I can theorize is just how the system needed to disassociate from the world around them. Either they needed peace and quiet, or they needed something to drown everything out (again, not medically backed afaik, just my thoughts). Which. The way Tsukasa's sekai is talked about is very reminiscent of having to explore an inner world. They find new places and people all the time (though this is a common thread in all five sekais). It reflects his emotions. It echoes his experiences in the real world (another common theme, though not as prevelant in the other four).
Which brings me to Tsukasa's introjects. Saki's stuffed animals are the most obvious. He used them in shows to help cheer her up, and they were an important part in both of their childhoods. The fact that they can talk and have personalities in his magic metaphorical brain land is a little 🤨 On top of that is the sekai's lead vocaloids. Most people have realized that Kaito is an introjection (not in a system way) of what Tsukasa himself wants to be. A leader, level-headed, respected, etc; and that Miku is meant to represent Emu's influence. I think Kaito has been around even longer though when considering one of the card stories. Despite him having met Emu, he talks as if he's been a fan of Kaito for at least a little while

All in all. That bitch is so system-coded

Finished dazzling lights! Sorry for taking so long. I was playing trails.
Tumblr media
This event really helped address a lot of the characterization Tsukasa had that was only lightly touched upon beforehand. I'm also super happy the way I interpreted his character from the beginning was completely right.
First off, there was a point in my life when I was younger where I tried to pursue an acting career, and can I just say how real it is that it's nearly impossible to play out a character you can't see yourself in in any way? I liked how the main conflict was Tsukasa aiming for that.
I also loved how both Toya and Saki were relevant for this event and helped Tsukasa out as opposed to it just being wxs. I expected Saki to be important since she's quite important to Tsukasa's past but Toya's involvement was a pleasant surprise.
Tsukasa's backstory was definitely the highlight. It was already something we knew enough about so they knew not to drag it out but it also felt incredibly real. In spite of how depressing the rest of it is, I think the saddest part about it is how much Tsukasa refused to feel bad for himself. He wasn't the one suffering in his eyes. His loved ones around him have it way worse so to him, it'd be selfish of him to admit he's having a tough time. It's a small thing but I think the way he disassociates explains so much of his current personality. Overall, it was really well done.
I saw some heat come from the awkward translation this event ends on but I find what it was trying to say pretty mature. Tsukasa was able to find a positive outcome out of his horrible experience growing up and I think being able to see those things is a good sign of healing. Finding good things in horrible memories to keep with you.
I also really like how this event leaves some room to explore this side of Tsukasa further. I was talking with a friend about this but part of me is worried project sekai events will eventually run out of steam from not taking advantage of how much time they have to flesh out these characters and develop them slowly so you end up getting to character beats that are paced fine in a regular story but feel quite early for a game supposedly meant to last a decade. So it's good to have events like these imo. This is also part of why I've been really appreciating the flashback events.
Also, can I just say that I love this set? This is hands down the best Tsukasa card and the Rui/Nene/Emu cards are also great. I especially love the pop up book style on Nene's as well as her outfit. I've been tempted to plan to pull for them at several points but we'll see how things go since I'm an EN player.
Overall, very good event. I can see why this is considered a favorite for many.

Tumblr media
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read:
Tumblr media
● this issue feels like Netflix Daredevil in places. I love it. ● can’t kill Shredder though. lose a point for that. ● 👏👏👏👏
Synopsis: A battle erupts between the Shredder Elite and the Turtles. As things intensify, Raphael decides that he can't afford to waste time fighting underlings and heads off to find the Shredder—much to Leonardo's chagrin, "We… must… stay together!"
Raphael leaves his brothers to battle the Elite and heads deeper into the complex, where he's ambushed by four experienced ninja.
Leonardo drops his four-armed opponent and heads off to pursue his hot-headed brother. Leo arrives just in time to save Raph, who is wounded and about to be skewered.
"You are a fool!" Leo screams once he's taken out the Foot.
"I know…" Raphael admits, "Almost a dead one. Can't help it… don't think… have no control. Splinter always said so… you know what this means to us… life or death!"
"We will not fail!" declares Leonardo.
"You brother," Raph replies, "You must not fail! I'll find Don and Mike… and together we'll come to you… get him!"
Meanwhile, things are not going well for Donatello and Michelangelo, who are still facing two Shredder Elite and a bevy of gun-toting Foot Ninja. Fortunately Mike, wielding Don's dropped Bō, manages to take out both Elite with one well aimed strategy.
Leonardo continues on into the Foot's headquarters, in search for the Shredder. Finally pausing outside a door…
Don and Mike are pinned down by gunfire and hiding behind some crates. Mike pulls out his shuriken and says "Make each one count!" Raphael arrives but laments the poor tactical position that his siblings are trapped in.
Leonardo enters the door and emerges onto the rooftop of the building. The Shredder is there.
"Leonardo… I've been waiting a long time." notes the enemy.
"Too long," adds Leo, "Three years ago I saw you die—why do you haunt us?"
The Shredder explains that, through ancient practices, the Foot were able to take the pieces of his body that were blown to bits in issue #1 and bring him back to life by utilizing a type of worm that learns from and grows into what it eats. These worms form a colony of cells that mutate into an individual. The Shredder Elite were the first three experiments with the worms, and on the fourth attempt, the Clan allowed the worms to feed on Saki himself, thus reincarnating him… his lust for vengeance and his hatred for the turtles stronger than before. After explaining his return, Shredder removes his armor and stands poised for battle, two katana in hand.
Back in the dock area, Mike and Don are down to their final throwing star. As Mike launches the small projectile, he and Don spot Raphael arriving in an odd, four-armed vehicle, which scatters the Foot.
On the rooftop, Leonardo and Shredder begin their monumental battle.
Don asks where Leo is and Raph tells him he's busy. Raphael then grabs a rocket launcher and fires it into a tower, releasing a torrent of deadly chemicals.
The Shredder has taken the upper hand in his battle with Leonardo. Saki gets a vicious kick in that sends Leo sprawling to the ground, where he sits stunned and defeated. As Shredder prepares to deliver the killing blow, the roof splits open under the strain of the chemicals that Raph has unleashed. The damage knocks the villain off his feet, giving Leonardo the opportunity to stand. He and Shredder are now separated by the rift in the rooftop, but both charge.
Raph's strategy has worked, and the three brothers head off to find Leonardo. They meet more Foot on the way and quickly dispatch them. Raph finds a doorway, but when he opens it a massive explosion rocks the building on its foundations, stunning the turtles. "The building," Mike stammers, "It's gonna—"
Cut to a dramatic double page spread, where we see Leonardo and the Shredder passing one another in mid-air. There is a hair-thin line separating Shredder's head from his shoulders.
A gigantic explosion blows a massive hole into the roof of the bank, shattering all windows and sending a huge fireball into the sky.
Fade into the sewers. A figure is walking in the shadows, carrying something. The secret doorway to the turtles' lair opens, revealing a mourning Mike, Don and Raph, who look up in surprise.
"Leo…" Mike begins.
Leo stands in the doorway, holding a body that's wrapped in a tarp.
"Oroku Saki… the Shredder… is dead." announces Leonardo.
"It's finished." Mike adds.
"Our destiny is complete." remarks Don.
"Honor is restored." Raphael states.
"We have… one final task…" finishes Leo.
On the final double page spread, we see the four brothers standing by the harbor. Beneath them, the body of the Shredder is burning on a floating funeral pyre.

1, 5, 12 for female character ask
LETS GOOOOO also this will be under a read more because i will actually ramble forever lmao
female character asks
One of your favourite female characters?
I don't have a picture of her because she's just from a book, but Eleanor Vance from The Haunting of Hill House! I'm serious that The Haunting of Hill House really hit super hard and that it floats in my thoughts every now and then, especially because of the way Eleanor's story goes.
When we meet Eleanor, she was trapped in a shitty family situation, where no one really cared of her being, so the research she joins to go to a haunted house becomes her little getaway. I fell in love with her the moment she drove away with her sister's car and just dream of the many lives she could have lived in the many towns she'd go to visit on her way over to Hill House. And I fell in love with the romantic way that she viewed things in the house.
In the house, it felt like things were coming together. Eleanor felt precious in Theodora's gaze and attention. She was needed for the experiment, but it doesn't last long.
There's a moment in the story where Eleanor just disappears from the narrative, and the writing style becomes so bleak that I couldn't help but miss Eleanor's colorful flowery language. In that way she haunts the writing by her absence.
The ending though really got me. Nowhere else but this house did she find love, but the others were worried about how the house had been affecting Eleanor, so they try to make her drive home...and well. It doesn't end well.
"Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.
5. A female villain you love?
I'd say she's more antagonist than a straight up villain? And mentally (and elsewhere) I've been raving so so much about her bUT-!
Tumblr media
Alyssa Zaidelle from FF13-2! She doesn't start off as an antagonist when you first meet her, but later she winds up stabbing the protagonists' in the back and leading them into a trap to save her own skin.
She might actually be my fave villain just because of how often she kinda haunts my thoughts from time to time. In actuality, a lot of her motivations are so blatantly human, and it just makes me sad when a lot of people crap on her character. Like yes, I get it, but also. What else would you do in her situation?
Her story: she was one of the people that had died in the train disaster that takes place at the beginning of the game, but due to the timeline distortions in the 2nd game, she winds up alive again, with a haunting sensation throughout her new life about how she should have been dead, just like her friend, whose grave she comes and visits in game as well. She gets told by the actual villain of the game that if the protagonists fix the timeline, then she'd disappear. All her dreams of doing research and making a name for herself will vanish just like that, and no one would remember her. But the villain tells her that if she helps him continue to break the timeline, then she can stay.
She chooses to help the villain, luring the protagonists into a death trap, but of course, plot armor happens and in the end, the timeline gets fixed and she disappears ironically.
I think it sticks with me a lot because I just see a girl just trying to fight for her life -- all the years she had gained for being alive than dying on the train 10 years ago. All those dreams unfulfilled. It just makes me sad :/
12. An interesting female friendship?
The first one that came up is the friendship between Tohru, Uo, and Saki in Fruits Basket!!
Tumblr media
tbh I don't really remember much of their friendship, but Uo (the blonde on the left) and Saki (the black hair girl on the right) are so protective of Tohru that they pretty much serve as second/third mom to Tohru after Tohru had lost her mom.
But it's a mutual friendship. The way that Tohru was a light for both Uo and Saki and offering them a place of comfort and safety and just being a welcoming person overall, that's how Uo and Saki become so fond of Tohru. It's honestly the sweetest thing to see, especially how strong the friendships remain over time, and it doesn't get overshadowed at all by the romance that happens. (I have a word to pick though about the romance with Uo and Kureno though ngl like that happened way way way too fast but okay I guess whatever. In my head Uo and Saki are together)

Can you by chance write a fic on where Tohru experiences jealousy when someone is flirting Kyo? I think it'd be interesting for tohru to feel that emotion 1st hand and not knowing how to deal with it and feeling guilty about it. I've seen so many fic where Kyo gets jealous, but very few where it's Tohru. You don't have to if you don't want to, I just thought I'd ask
I like that idea! I came up with this so I hope you enjoy!
———————
She was hit with a heaping sense of nostalgia when they got to Shigure’s house. She hadn’t seen the place in about a year, and along with it, so many memories came to her. She’d never seen it like this though, with all of their old classmates there.
It was a reunion party for her class, and she had been looking forward to it. Yuki had organized the event with Shigure on his property, even though he couldn’t be there because of college exams. She was just happy to have a chance to see the house again, although the party was deeper into the woods. She only saw it at a distance.
Additionally, she was happy to have an excuse to see Arisa and Saki. They lived so far from each other that it was difficult to meet up. She had missed them so much.
They greeted her with hugs when they saw her while Kyo stood beside her awkwardly, only nodding his head toward them as a form of greeting.
“It’s been too long. You gotta fill us in on everything!” Arisa said, holding both of Tohru’s hands in her own. Her thumb ran over the ring on Tohru’s finger. It was small but beautiful just like her. “I still can’t believe it.”
“Me neither, honestly,” Tohru said with a bashful smile. She wrapped her arms around Kyo’s lean bicep and leaned against him. The tension left him as soon as she did so. “I guess the next time I see you guys will be for the wedding.”
“No way! We’ll visit you sooner to help pick out the dress. There’s no way we’re missing that,” Arisa said sternly.
“That’s right. Her dress must meet our approval,” Saki added.
“Ah, if you guys can help me, then please!” Tohru replied, excited for that day to come.
Arisa nodded. “But in the meantime, Carrots has to help you with the rest of the wedding planning since we won’t be there to do it. Although, it’s hard to picture him contributing to such an event with a lack of masculinity.”
Kyo clenched his jaw. “It’s not like I’m going to let her go through all that work alone. Of course I’m going to help her, stupid Yankee.”
“Excuse me,” Arisa muttered, her almost non existent brows drawn together. “I can still whoop your ass if I wanted to.”
Tohru giggled nervously. It was great to think that nothing changed between all of them, even though she wasn’t all for such violent threats.
“Hold up!” said a boy that she recognized as Hiroshi. “Did I hear wedding?”
“Yes,” Tohru answered, a blush tainting her cheeks. “We’re engaged.” Her arms left Kyo’s arm and she held his hand. He looked down at her, blushing as well, but the softest smile was on his face.
“No way!” Yusuke said, now joining their circle. “I knew you guys were close so I should have expected this but...I guess it’s just hard to imagine Kyon-Kyon getting married.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?!” Kyo growled, releasing her hand and clenching it in a fist.
“Just teasing...” Yusuke laughed. “You still get worked up so easily.”
“I do not!” Kyo snapped. But to Tohru, he was being contradictory. She didn’t mind. She found him adorable even when he would get irritated. Not that she wanted him to...
“Whatever,” Kyo mumbled. “I’m getting a drink. You want one?” He asked Tohru.
She nodded, giving his clenched fist a squeeze. “Iced tea, please.”
He smiled briefly, kissing the top of her head before he left to the food and drink table. His kiss was tense, and she knew it was because he was timid when it came to being affectionate in front of others, but she appreciated the effort of the gesture anyway. Overtime, the PDA had gotten easier for them.
“Let’s go mingle. You should join us, Tohru,” Saki suggested.
That sounded appealing to her. She was sure Kyo would catch up to them. She followed alongside the girls, stopping when they reunited with a group of their old classmates, and she greeted all of them.
She saw Kyo out of the corner of her eye getting their drinks, but he wasn’t alone. Three girls flocked to him, and she recognized them. They’d never taken fondly to her, particularly because Kyo always liked her and ended up choosing to be with her. She recalled the scrutiny she got from them soon after they started dating. She knew it was out of jealousy, and it’s not like she didn’t expect it to happen. Kyo was handsome...more than that, he was beautiful. And though most of the girls at their school had their eyes on Yuki, she couldn’t help but notice how a few of them also acknowledged Kyo.
She wasn’t surprised that was still the case. He’d gotten prettier in the past year, bulking up quite a bit due to all the martial arts classes he’d been teaching at Kazuma’s dojo. She wouldn’t have been concerned about girls taking notice of him. She would never want to control who he sees or talks to. It wasn’t like her. However, it was the way the girls acted around him that made her feel uneasy.
One of them put her hand on his forearm, the touch soft enough to not count as evasive. For a moment, Kyo just froze, paying attention to the girl who was chatting with him, until he slowly drew his arm away from her and seemed to pretend like it never happened.
Tohru sighed to herself. At least he didn’t seem to cave to her advances. Not that she would think he would. She knew he was loyal to her, he promised he would be since the day he proposed to her. She was grateful for that.
Still, the nausea she felt seeing such beautiful girls dote on him didn’t fade. It was similar to how she felt when she thought her dad was stealing her mom away from her. Maybe not as severe, but it wasn’t a good feeling nonetheless.
She felt the need to intervene, even though she wanted to give him space and room to talk to whoever he wanted to on his own. She didn’t want to be that type of girlfriend...or fiancé.
She sucked in a breath and went to him, instantly intertwining her fingers through his. “H-hi,” she said to the girls timidly.
They examined her, or rather leered at her. She felt completely vulnerable.
“Oh, hey, Tohru. How have you been?” One of them asked. Although, it didn’t sound like they cared.
“I’ve been well. Especially since I’ve had Kyo-kun beside me. It’s been nice.” She felt the need to mention that last part. But it really just slipped out.
“Yeah it’s been...really great,” Kyo added, looking down at Tohru and finally smiled.
Moments of silence followed, and she couldn’t ignore how awkward it had gotten. The girls clearly still had crushes on him, so Tohru was the bad guy. It wasn’t a pleasant feeling.
“Anyway...we’re going to walk around. It was nice seeing you again, Kyo-kun,” one of them cooed, leaving with the other girls.
Tohru felt the tension leave her. But her feelings still confused her. Was that really jealousy?
“You seemed really tense there,” Kyo mentioned.
She straightened, cringing. “Was I? I didn’t mean to.”
Kyo handed her the iced tea that had been sitting on the table scattered with all kinds of appetizers. “I felt you squeezing my hand. Are you okay?”
She slowly sipped her drink. “Yes. I’m fine. I’m just nervous to see everyone. It’s been a long time.”
“If you’re nervous, then I’m terrified,” he said with a roll of his eyes.
She giggled. She loved her shy kitty. She moved her toes up and kissed him, momentarily forgetting that they weren’t alone. But once she remembered, she didn’t mind that. In fact, she hoped the girls were noticing them, and she couldn’t figure out why.
It wasn’t until later, after they got off the subway and were walking the remainder of the trip home, that she still felt unsettled. No matter how hard she tried to conceal it, Kyo would look at her with perplexity.
“Something’s up. And don’t lie to me,” he stated.
She frowned. “I don’t want to bother you with this but...I can’t get it off my mind.”
“Spill it.” He walked closer to her, his elbow bumping hers. “You can tell me.”
And she did because she felt like she could tell him anything and it wouldn’t sway what he thought of her. He’d proven that so many times. “When I saw how those girls acted around you, it made me...uncomfortable.”
His walking slowed as they reached the door to their tiny home that resembled a cottage. He didn’t open the door, but just stood there without facing her. “So that’s what this is about,” he said just above a whisper. “Really? Do you not trust me when it comes to that?”
“No! Of course not,” she said quickly. “I didn’t think you’d give into them. It’s not about you actually.” She wrung her hands together, scrambling for words. “It’s just that...those girls are so pretty. Much more beautiful than I am. They seem like the type that would fit better for you...” She hadn’t realized how much she felt that way until she said it out loud. She found herself so plain. It stemmed from the amount of comments she got from her family about her being boring and dull physically. To a big extent, she thought it was true.
Kyo finally looked to her, his brows creasing together. “What the hell are you talking about? You are insane if you think I don’t find you attractive.”
Her heartbeat picked up. That actually meant a lot, especially coming from him. “I am?”
His expression softened. “You are. You’re beautiful. And yeah, those girls are hot, but I’ll never fall in love with them the way I fell for you.” He took a piece of her hair bound together by her ribbon and tucked it behind her ear.
She smiled as he held her cheek. “You make me feel beautiful, Kyo-kun. Thank you for telling me that everyday.” She held his wrist, as if she was afraid of him pulling away. She really didn’t want that. “I’ve never been that jealous before. It’s kind of embarrassing.”
“But it just means you love me, right?” He leaned down so his face was at her level. “Not that I deserve it.”
She shook her head while grinning and met him halfway in a kiss that she hadn’t intended to get so intense, but he took it there, holding her waist and pulling her close until her body was pressed firmly against his own.
When she broke away to breathe, she found him smiling so big that it took away her breath more than the kiss had. “You have my word that I won’t leave you for anyone else. You’re my first love, and you’ll be my last.”
“I’m holding you to that, but I don’t think I have reason to worry. I trust you completely, Kyo-kun.” She opened the front door, pulling him in behind her by his hand with her mind officially set at ease.

Fifty Three - Iquitos
After a restless night we both were awake very early so took the opportunity to get up and get to our destination for the morning early. Our activity for the day was something I'd been looking forward to for so long and was one of the major factors of us going to the Amazon from Iquitos. The place was called Isla de Los Monos and was a rescue and rehabilitation centre for monkeys.
As we'd trialled the route before (when we were trying to work out how to get there) we knew exactly where to go. We walked through the busy fruit market to the rickety dock area full of planks of wood precariously nailed together to form platforms. Entering these docks was like going into a film where we were definitely 'not from around these parts'. People were going around their daily business and it felt like a world away from what we knew.
We found the boats and luckily there were two spare seats on one so we didn't have to wait and immediately we were off. The boat was noisy and crammed with people. I tried not to think about how dangerous it was and instead enjoyed the view of the passing land and fishing boats.
After around 20 minutes the boat stopped and a couple got off. I saw a sign proclaiming 'Isla de Los Monos' and we quickly struggled through people to get to the front, lucky for us as the boat was about to head off to whatever the next destination was.
On land we found the very muddy trail to the centre and were glad we'd decided to wear our jungle gear, watching another couple struggle with their trainers. Five minutes in we quickly got on our long sleeve tops as we were being bitten by mosquitos. We couldn't put on any repellent or sun cream as it's toxic to the monkeys so we came prepared.
After twenty minutes of walking we came to an open area with some wooden structures. Following the signs instructions we walked to the purple hut and were met by a man who owned the centre. While he was explaining what the centre does and the monkeys they had I could make out something moving by his feet. I got excited thinking it might be a dog but when I moved closer I saw a monkey!!! I bent down and saw a tiny Saki monkey playing and being completely adorable. The man explained how when she arrived her coxis was broken and she had a bullet in her. Apparently people hunt Saki monkeys to make feather dusters from their bushy tails. I will never get over how cruel and desperate humans can be.
I didn't want to leave the Saki monkey but soon our guide arrived and we had to follow him. We went outside, walked to some trees and immediately we could see black bodies above and around us. Little wooly monkeys scampered in the trees, playing with each other and coming down for food on the feeding platform. It was completely amazing and I wanted to cry. Our guide told us how all the monkeys could roam wherever they wanted on the 40 hectare island. They'd all been rescued from the pet or meat trade and were young. When they got to around four years old they'd be taken somewhere without human contact so they could then release them.
The monkeys came down for food and weren't phased by us at all. They occasionally reached out a hand to us to touch us which was completely magical. Their fur was so soft and wooly (funny that!). They were unbelievably cute, so much like a child's drawing of a monkey.
After a while another couple joined us and while they did another breed of monkey came down. A tiny red baby howler monkey that was so timid and so cute. Our guide pointed over in the distance and said there was another. But this one was on the back of one of the other young wooly monkeys as it walked over to us. The wooly monkey had adopted the baby howler monkey and it made my heart swell, it was one of the cutest things I've ever seen!!!
As the monkeys got more comfortable with us they started to use us as climbing frames to jump onto trees or play fight together. Soon Mike had a wooly monkey on him and I had the timid baby howler monkey wrapped around me, watching the woolys from a safe distance. I couldn't believe it was happening and how the little monkeys trusted us and wanted to be with us already. It was the most amazing thing ever.
Although I didn't want to leave the troop of monkeys our guide led us through to the jungle trail. While we were walking some of the wooly monkeys followed us and before we knew it Mike had one on his head while walking. The guide told us because they didn't have mothers they needed love and also liked to hitch a ride. The monkey loved Mike and did not want to get off (at one point I was so jealous Mike said I could have a turn holding it but it clung onto Mike so we let it be). We walked along the trail like this with the baby monkey grabbing leaves to eat on the way.
It wasn't long before another wooly monkey had jumped onto me and was sat on my shoulders like a toddler. The weight of the monkey and the way it's tail wrapped around my arm like another hand was so unbelievably lovely I was again close to tears. So there we were walking through the forest with our new monkey babies. As we walked we saw other monkeys, a mix of wild and rescued that weren't as clingy as the woolys. We saw white crested marmosets, a lonely tiki that was abandoned by its troop and the tiniest of all the primates, pygmy marmosets - the size of my palms (which are tiny enough!).
As we walked my wooly monkey started to lick my face. I asked our guide if it was OK and he said she's just licking the salt. Well she was in for a feast with my sweaty head. While others might be disgusted with this I absolutely loved it. I could feel her tiny warm breath as she licked, smelling a bit like green tea.
We continued to walk to the end of the trail but before we got there my little monkey gestured to the floor. I assumed she wanted a leaf as she had been doing this the whole walk but I looked down to see a big snails shell on the forest floor. I bent down and she reached out to pick it up. I soon realised the shell was full of water and she wanted to drink it! She proceeded to do this pouring the water all over my head while trying.
Feeling like one of the troop we walked over to some more monkeys, a bigger Saki monkey, little tamarins and another red tiki. The woolys and the tiki took it in turns to climb onto our shoulders until Mike and I had both felt the little red tiki around our shoulders like a scarf. It was completely amazing to see all these breeds together and so close. I can't describe how happy I was.
Finally our walk came to an end and we had to let the monkeys go. Safe to say I really didn't want to. I kept saying to Mike, can't we stay? Do you think we can pay more and hang out with the woolys some more? Luckily I had the baby Saki monkey in the hut to take my mind off that fact that we had to leave. I consoled myself with the fact that we'd had this most amazing experience and we can't stay longer as it wouldn't be good for the monkeys.
The whole morning was maybe my best morning ever. I've always loved animals and this felt like a combination of that deep seated love and my maternal instincts melding together to make one giant emotion. It's amazing I didn't explode. It's kind of pathetic but I can't believe how much I loved those baby monkeys and how much I felt like I needed to care for them. Plus they were so soft.
Walking back to the boat I felt an absolute mix of emotions - complete euphoria at having seen and held the monkeys, complete sadness at having to leave them and an overwhelming anger at the greedy humans that had harmed them. I could see they were being well looked after so that was the only consolation.
The boat ride back went quickly and we got back to the hostel, showered and sorted out our very muddy clothes. After we went out for lunch, repeatedly looking at our photos and videos of the morning not quite believing how lucky we were.
We spent the afternoon relaxing at the hostel before heading back out for dinner. That night we went to a local place that served kebabs. When we arrived we were shown a fridge full of different kebabs that we could choose from. We opted for some fish, stuffed peppers, potato and cheese with pineapple. Each one came with vegetables and a salad and were delicious!
To finish off one of my best days of the whole trip we went to the ice cream place and got ice cream smothered in chocolate sauce. What a day!
