Snapshot 1: Movie Night (Bakugou)
a/n: i’ve got some scenes in my head that don’t fit anywhere or can’t be made into a long or standalone thing, so i thought why not throw them all together into a little booklet?
summary: snapshot series. a snapshot of you and bakugou watching a movie on the couch. bakugou x gn!reader.
cw: fluff, swearing, cute little roughhousing at the end. gn!reader, no pronouns used.

You reach into the bag of chips sitting between you and Bakugou, eyes glued to the television as Jacob Black shifts into his wolf form on screen.
“Wow,” you remark, “the CGI isn’t that bad.”
Bakugou glances up, but the effects and the moment aren’t strong enough to hold his interest. “Looks like ass,” he grunts. He drops his gaze back down to his phone where he’s scrolling on his Twitter feed.
“Considering the time, the wolves look pretty cool,” you argue.
“Ass.”
“Whatever.”
You roll your eyes and eat another chip piece, returning back to the screen. Bakugou opens his camera app and sends a picture of the movie to his group chat; intensive texting follows it, most likely of him complaining.
When you realize that you are the only one eating the chips, and when you feel the aching in your back and your side, you shift positions, laying back against a pillow and the couch armrest, the bag of chips tucked against your arm. You rest your legs in his lap and feel an immediate relief in your body at the new arrangement, though you notice Bakugou’s irritated glance. He accommodates the presence and weight of your legs without complaint, though you know it’s not the position that annoys him but the distance.
“Your muscles hurt,” you say.
He narrows his eyes at his phone, fingers pausing mid-text, but he doesn’t look your way. “Are you whining that I have muscles?”
“No, I’m saying that you like to lean against me and dig your big, dumb, muscular arm into my side, asshole.”
“Fuckin’ unbelievable...” he grumbles.
“I’m just saying that you could stand to be a little more aware of your position,” you remark.
“Why don’t we make it easy?” he snorts. “I just won’t fucking touch you anymore.” He says it, but he doesn’t make any move to push your legs off. You learned early on that he is a softie: his growling and snarling is only big talk and heated air, and he’d bite only if you asked. You turn back to the screen, a smile playing on your lips.
You sit up, and you can see that he suddenly begins to shift imperceptibly, as if preparing for you to come back to his side, but you rearrange the pillow to be more comfortable against your back and lay back down. Bakugou’s jaw clenches and unclenches. You look at the screen, pretending that you’re smiling at something a character says and not laughing at him internally.
“Everyone wants to do lunch tomorrow,” Bakugou announces.
“Can’t,” you respond, bringing another chip to your lips. “We have lunch with Midoriya and Todoroki, remember? At that new, fancy Japanese-French restaurant that just opened?”
Bakugou scowls. “Cancel. Place sounds shitty anyways.”
“It’s been on the calendar for two weeks, Katsuki.”
“Push it back another two weeks.”
“No.”
“Tch.”
You nudge him playfully with your foot. “We’re literally about to see Kirishima and them for game night in two days! You’re so clingy!”
“They’re the ones fucking asking.”
“You’re the one talking about rescheduling a double date that’s been on the calendar for half a month.”
“Whatever, fine, we’ll go eat with the nerds,” he mutters.
“Katsuki, you’re making me miss the movie.” You sigh dramatically, sitting up again to grab the remote and rewind the scene, one where Bella is comparing her two love interests. You get a curious thought then, and you look back to your boyfriend, trying to decipher which species he would fall under: shapeshifter/werewolf or vampire? Decisions, decisions…
“What?” he snaps, sense your staring.
You grin, settling back down. “Yeah, you’d be one of the werewolves.”
That catches his attention. He looks up from his phone. “What?”
“I was trying to figure out if you’d be a werewolf or a vampire if you were in the Twilight world,” you explain, “and you’d definitely be one of the werewolves.”
He looks offended, his brows scrunching and his scowl deepening in that way that makes him look like he takes the world too seriously (in that way that makes you laugh with your entire chest).
“I’m not a fucking dog,” he says.
“They’re wolves,” you correct. You throw a chip at him—it misses wildly and lands on the floor on the other side of the couch.
“You’re picking that shit up later,” Bakugou remarks, but you both know that he’ll do it for you.
You continue with your thoughts; a habit that you’ve developed during your relationship is grabbing onto threads of annoyances and pulling until you get a reaction, and you think this thread in particular is a good one.
“Okay, so I think you’re way too freakin’ hot-headed to be a vampire—”
“What the hell does that have to do with anything? And I’m not fucking—”
“—And the wolves have to, like, strip, or their clothes rip when they transform, which is funny because you just love walking around butt-ass naked with the blinds up for all the neighbors to see—”
“Neighbors shouldn’t be looking into other people’s windows anyways, nosy ass extras.”
“—Plus, I would argue that, sometimes, you know, your bitching sounds a lot like barking, or howling, or—”
“What the fuck did you just—”
“—And the Twilight vampires are pretty, and elegant, and suave, and you’re”—you make pointed eye contact with him—“you.”
A few seconds go by while you withhold a grin, waiting for his reaction. Rather than yell, though, he is calm—much calmer than you expect him to be. He sets his phone down on the coffee table and holds his hand out to you.
You reach out to grasp his hand, but he immediately smacks it away.
“The chip bag, idiot,” he retorts. “Give it to me.”
“I’m still eating them.”
“Give it.”
You narrow your eyes at him, but give him the bag of chips. He takes it gently, sets it down on the floor with slow and smooth movements. What is he up to, you think suspiciously, and while you try to figure out his angle, he takes advantage of that moment and his speed to suddenly jump on top of you without warning, faster than your eyes can follow. His hands are immediately at your sides, tickling you, making you writhe and squirm and shout.
“So you think I’m a fuckin’ dog, huh, [Name]? You think I’m an ugly, stupid-ass, dumb mutt?”
“Wait,” you gasped in between laughter, “I literally didn’t say any of that!”
“I know what you were fuckin’ tryin’ to say!”
Bakugou grabs your wrists and pins them down against the couch cushion, a smug smirk on his face. These fights always end the same way, even as you use every wily trick you know—using your legs to keep your bodies separated, twisting your hands to force his grip to open—but, in the end, Bakugou always ends up on top, snug between your legs as he uses his strength and weight to keep you trapped beneath him.
When he finally has you where he wants—your feeble struggling doing nothing for either of you—he buries his face into your neck to playfully bite at the sensitive spot that meets your shoulder. You scream and laugh, stammering out apologies to try and appease him, but he tightly holds both your wrists in one large hand; the other snakes around your waist, pulling you even closer. Bakugou attempts a terrible impression of Count Dracula against your skin, and your burst of bright laughter grows louder, overtaking the soundtrack of the movie as he pretends to feast on your neck.

In moments when Frankie is feeling particularly weak, he finds solace in letting his mind drift. It's become somewhat of a habit lately, a quiet retreat from the turmoil of his everyday life. Typically, he reserves these mental escapes for the late hours of the night, lying on his side of the bed with only the soft glow of his cell phone illuminating the darkness, peering over his shoulder, making sure Chelsea was facing the other way, knowing damn well he was playing with fire with what he was about to do.
He couldn't help that even though it's been years, his thoughts still pathetically drift to you.
He feels a pang of embarrassment admitting it to himself, but he can't deny that he knows your Instagram handle by heart. It was a chance discovery, a random tag on your sister's post, five years ago—a snapshot of you both, smiling as you cradle a newborn baby in your arms.
Hometown Glory finally making an appearance, your sister's caption read, Who knew I had to birth a whole ass baby for this miracle to happen?
But it was the tiny icon at the bottom left of the photo that caught Frankie's attention, his breath catching. He presses on it almost too excitedly, slowing his trigger finger at the last moment, preventing it from accidentally liking the post and blowing his cover.
But still.
Maybe it's because he's curious.
Maybe it’s because he wonders if he can remember the placement of moles that are scattered along your face, down the span of your neck like a constellation of stars he's mapped out in his memory.
Maybe it’s because he’s been so fucking lonely, and that you were the last good thing to ever happen in his life before his daughter came around.

Summary: Alex Shepard and Reyes Vidal are nearing the end of basic training, and it's time for their land navigation test. Unfortunately, Alex’s biotic field interferes with the compass, someone’s stolen most of his rations, there’s a cliff between them and the extraction point, and no one packed climbing equipment.
Notes: This was supposed to be a 1k-ish snapshot of part of Alex’s experiences in basic training to be included in another fic. But apparently that wasn’t enough for these two jackasses. Anyway, as a result of having to write this fic, Reyes and Alex’s relationship has developed into something significantly more serious than it was originally intended to be. It was always intended to be more than friends, but it was supposed to be something resembling casual and then Alex had to go and have feelings.” Hope you enjoy :D
I do have several 1k-ish snapshots of other things in basic training, like Alex and Reyes meeting for the first time, etc, but this really felt like the most important bit, so I wanted to get it out there! Plus, it's gonna be a hot minute until I have any more of Alex's canon story ready to post, so I figure those little snapshots can fill the void in my soul while I am working on the next big part.

So I kinda of want to try something different with my #manga covers tag. I dunno why I'm posting to preface the fact, I don't think anyone who follows me follows me for that tag specifically. But this is my particular little corner of the digital void and I can scream whatever impotency i want into it. Normally I just drift through the amazoncojp recommendeds from a clean private/ingonito window and just see where it leads me. My priorities on what I actually end up posting tend to be toward
individual cover art i like, or covers that I think look particularly interesting in sequence
franchises that I distinctly don't recognize from the western licensed market
specific trends across multiple titles in a genre, or within a certain mangaka's bibliography
titles with kanji or grammatical construction that I don't recognize and want to look up/practice translating
But every once in a while I get sucked into a little riptide of publisher recommendations, and the common thread is what magazines things were serialized in, and it got me thinking I'd like to try and lean into it.
In the past I've opted to collect magazine covers rather than single series tankobon ([Harta/Fellows] [Kenchiku Chishiki] [Galette Meets] [Marginal] [Tsuri Comic]), but even though that gives a very broad snapshot of a magazine's outward aesthetic from month to month, it doesn't really communicate the content of what's really being published along side what, and how those juxtapose and highlight their target audience. And in thinking about what some magazines' appearances really have to say, about who reads and who they want reading them, I realize that for as big as the manga boom got in the west these past few decades, a lot of fans don't actually have any direct interaction with the magazine format, beyond just barely recognizing the JUMP brand. (we had that brief experiment with Shounen JUMP, Shoujo BEAT, and RAIJIN in the 2000s but it was kind of an abysmal failure.)
Ive always really loved the anthology magazine format that serial manga in japan follows, and it's kind of their secret weapon for actually producing and moving the sheer staggering amount of print content that they do. And at levels that western print media just can't really compare with, not as a matter of competition, but just because the two industries operate on such vastly different models.
(I nearly forgot but I did go on kind of an adjacent rant to this once before, that no one really saw :P It was a little more focused on the old fanscanlation scene but some of its tangents are the same tangents I'm about to go on here, so I might as well link it here.)
For example, depending on the size, a monthly magazine might run between one to two dozen individual titles. And these days that would cost you about 5.10USD to grab off the rack on your way to school, or work, or on your lunch break. And that could include any number of long running series, new up and coming works, and pilot chapters or stand alone one shots from either new or established authors. By comparison a single issue of a monthly or bi monthly comic book in the US could cost between 3.99-5.99USD for what amounts to about 19 pages of content.
So, if that's issue #1 of a brand new title? or issue 100 of an ongoing series you don't keep up with? Would you be willing to pay that $4.00 to try something new? Would you be willing to pay that in addition to the $4.00 to keep up with a title you're already following? How many series would you really be comfortable following and still trying something new? Or how many new comics would you really consider picking up given the number of comics you already keep up with?
With anthology magazine format that entire game of chess between a marketing department and your wallet just straight up doesn't exist. You pay that $5.00 for a monthly issue no matter how much of it you're keeping up with, and every issue there's that free chance that you'll flip through those pages and find something cool that you decide you'll start following. And so long as they keep readers constantly engaged, even while selling magazines at a loss, it means the overall cashflow of magazine purchases, ad revenue, and eventual book sales never stops. And it all funnels back upwards to the month company that redistributes those funds to the departments it needs to to make up the slack and keep the whole machine running.
Anyway point being that manga magazines have a really neat sort of internal ecosystem they curate where the mix of content any one magazine publishes, even under the general umbrella of a target demographic like shounen or josei, is really interesting. Because really, when you follow a manga, you're following the magazine, and that means you consume everything in it, even if only tangentially. And we miss that experience by not having a magazine format for manga distribution in English. So, I'm going to post some magazine covers, and following each will be the tanokbon covers of everything currently running in them; that way, short of being able to just flip through a copy of the magazine, you still get a kind of glimpse of what that magazine's content looks like at a glance.
anyway like I said, I dunno why I thought that needed to be prefaced. There's a list of magazines I'd like to try and get to but I'd rather queue up a full roster at a time so rather than my usual random bursts of whatever I can dredge out of my drafts on a slow day at work, there will probably be some downtime between each magazine.

no strange land (a marvellous light, robin/edwin) – I am very proud to say that I was the first person to post a fic on ao3 for this series.
on the other side of the door (harry potter, harry/ginny) – Another fun exploration with a Gender AU, but this time I focused more on the shared trauma. What does it mean to like a person who has shared a piece of a monster's soul, how much flower and sunlight imagery can I cram into each 100-word segment, etc.
heart, i implore you (the scholomance) – While I didn't love, love the trilogy, I was fascinated by El's moral fiber as a protagonist. So, why not put her in some AUs where she considered taking the low road, especially to save her mum?
the earth remembers its own name (percy jackson and the olympians) – The idea came to me when I was listening to the musical soundtrack. It was suddenly 2007 again and I was fascinated about a girl who was turned into a pine tree. Something I was satisfied about writing was each liminal dream.
never say there is only death for you (moon knight) – I had so much fun with my references when I wrote this. I had an old haggadah out so that I could properly quote the folk song for the title, web pages about Sephardic herbalism, a highlighted copy of my old prayer book from Hebrew School... I originally found the lullaby La Moza y El Huerco as the epigraph for Ninth House, but a cousin's grandma (she speaks Ladino!) showed me the melody years back. That being said, please never ask me to transliterate anything from liturgical Hebrew. It wasn't worth the headache.
your top 4 current WIPs that you're excited to release in the new year
no gods stronger than death (the old guard) – I have the outline from a Big Bang event that I never had time to join. Historical urban fantasy! A cursed family mansion! Murder!
keep you like an oath (harry potter, harry/ginny) – This rewrite haunts me.
untitled hp fic (harry potter) – This is the angst fic :-D It's different from my usual stuff, but the planning is fuuuuuun!
all flowers in time bend towards the sun (there is someone for you) (harry potter, harry/ginny) – I won't lie that this Practical Magic AU is mainly in the works because I love the title.

Snapshot 4: Soft (Shigaraki)
a/n: something small and sweet.
summary: sometimes shigaraki whispers to you in his half-sleep. shigaraki x gn!reader.
cw: just some squishy cuteness. no pronouns used. gn!reader.
wc: 137.
Sometimes, once in a blue moon, when the stars align and the moonlight casts a gentle glow on Shigaraki’s face just so, illuminating not the scars and ripples, but the softness laying underneath his skin and the shadows—sometimes, you catch him in between dreaming and waking. You catch him like a shooting star just before dawn.
“What are you dreaming about?” you whisper into the dark, careful not to break the spell.
The red in his eyes flickers and flutters, dazed by the dimness of reality and the shelter of his dreams.
“You and me,” he murmurs languidly, “growing old.”

How many words have you written this year?
AO3 says 253,826. There are some words written that haven't been posted either so like, Oh god. seriously??? Though I think some of those may be coming from updates of a fic (RBME) that started in previous years but was updated this year. IDK exactly how that works.
How many works did you publish this year?
34! Of which many were short but still!
What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
Honestly probably an unposted fic that I cant talk about yet lmao. Barring that, Beginning Where We Ended because its Very ambitious and I absolutely adore it. its the kind of fic I wanted to read (and write!) the first time I was in the FF7 fandom and finally I can do it.
What work of yours has the most hits?
Beginning Where We Ended (ff7)! Which has just barely overtaken Revealed by Mirrored Eyes (rwby)
What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?
Recordings for Sleeping! It did way better across the board than I expected it to ngl.

All kinds of music. depends on the fic. and my mood.
Favorite work you wrote this year?
Picking favorites between my children is Difficult okay. Uhhh. Probably still the same as the last time I got a similar ask tho: Recordings for Sleeping is Up there because it's a great balance of soft and warm and I really adored it. Also beginning where we ended because time travel zakkura epic has been Fun and the story's just beginning. It was also started on an absolute whim and is my self-indulgent wip.

Okay! Uh! probably this one. It's from Saving the Hero
He also didn’t comment on the fact that eventually Sephiroth’s arms wound their way around him, instead of remaining locked around Seph’s own body like they were trying to hold broken pieces of him together. But they did. His fingers found themselves in the fabric of Zack’s shirt, clinging almost as tightly. Zack let him, and simply kept his grip steady on Sephiroth. Offering comfort as he could.
And tucked there in the space between the bed and the wall, a barrier was breached between them that neither one would have ever guessed at.
Sephiroth cried.
It made Zack’s heart ache. Like everything about the Commander when he wasn’t giving orders on the battlefield, his grief was quiet. Silent tears found their way into the collar and shoulder of Zack’s uniform top. Breathy sobs made as little sound as possible, even this close to Zack’s ear. Smothered by a stranglehold that even now, Sephiroth couldn’t let go of.
Zack wondered how many times Sephiroth had been scolded for having feelings that this was the reaction he’d gotten while trying to comfort him. It renewed Zack’s desire to find Hojo and break him. But… he was needed here.
Zack didn’t know how long they stayed there between the wall and the bed anchored together. Didn’t know how long they sat in the eye of the storm that was Sephiroth’s grief. Didn’t know how long he murmured what he hoped were words of comfort and held the man while the new wave of grief bled itself out.
But finally, Sephiroth stopped.
Biggest surprise while writing this year?
Biggest Surprise... honestly probably walking into the FF7 fandom and doing fanworks for it at all. If you'd told me this time last year that the vast majority of my works would be ff7 based this year I would have probably laughed. I spent ages afraid of this fandom even though I've loved the work since I was like 12. But I'm here, and I'm really glad for that!

So I just finished my fourth read-through of Lingua Franca (and FINALLY twigged onto the fact that I could search you up on tumblr, oops), and saw one of your recent posts tagging The Old Guard. I want to know more, as long as you have the time and motivation for it, of course! I'm so invested in that universe, and so far it's only one fic. Please, if you have any tibits to share, this reader is STARVING for more info on this AU? XD
Thank you so much with your patience in my replying to this ask, @atsuyuri-sama I have been thinking about this ask since you sent it and getting super hyped when i finally had a week where i had enough brain energy to give it the answer you deserve.
First off: !!!! FOUR read-throughs??!? It's mind boggling to think someone enjoyed Lingua Franca so much to reread it three times. You honor me.
On to the question: Since you mentioned really loving the AU and the fact that it's only one fic right now, I think it'd be fun to share what I'm envisioning for the entire series, structure wise.
Lingua Franca (the series) will have 4 parts, one of which is obviously Lingua Franca (the fic)
The rest are as follows:
Prima Lingua - A prequel/companion story to Lingua Franca from the perspective of Nicolo. The second chapter of which will have one of my biggest writing experiments to date and I'm very very excited to see how it lands with people.
Nolexi - What happens after Lingua Franca? A very awkward dinner, first off. The title/theme of the work comes from Rudy Francisco's I'll Fly Away which. I highly recommend, especially to any poetry lovers out there OR people who love linguistics.
Code Switch - This is my anthology of pieces set into the Lingua Franca universe that don't fit in well with the main fics but I still feel are important supplementary snapshots into the characters and the events. Here are some of my favorite snapshots I'm going to be exploring:
Andrew is just shy of nine years the first time he accompanies his father on a sea voyage. As with most boys his age, he is brave and curious in equal measure, and can't help but flounce his father's strict orders to stay away from the strange metal box speaking in zeneize.
Three decades later, Andrew is cornered in an alleyway on his walk home from the docks. These experiences are related.
Quynh has learned after several lifetimes that while she'll do it for her heart, Andromache has no love and no patience for the task of braiding hair.
Luckily, Quynh has an alternative for when she wants to do something complicated with her hair. If it happens to interrupt his reading, that's his problem. (She knows Booker secretly loves helping her with her hair anyway.)
The first thing Copley does, once he's triple checked he's lost all traces of Merrick surveillance, is break into Booker's apartment.
I've got parts and pieces of all three of these fics written but I'm not sure when exactly I'll actually get them published or if I'll wait until i have them all completely written before posting but I hope whenever the time is right and I get the rest of the story shared with you all, it brings you the same satisfaction as Lingua Franca did :)

Fabrics & Threads (An Insight into Another Winterfall Location)
I’ve mentioned the fabric market (Dutch: ‘Lapjesmarkt’) I frequent so I thought I’d give you an insight into what it actually looks like.😉
It isn’t always as busy as it is in the third picture (taken earlier today), it depends on the weather, the time, and what else is going on in the city. Also, taking pictures is hard when it’s as busy as today because I try to respect the merchants and visitors’s privacy as best as possible. Though they’re generally a merry lot, I don’t think they’d appreciate me going around trying to get a good snapshot while they’re simply trying to shop in peace.😅
But, as the title suggests, I’m also showing you this because it’s related to Winterfall since it’s (for now) the main location for the story segment that comes after Project Mokum Pt. 2. For now the piece is mostly fluff (for as far as I’ve planned it out). However, I know myself, so drama can unfold at any second.😹
First things first, though, and that is actually finishing up Project Mokum.😬
