Toyotama-hime – Wani (Dragon) Goddess disguised as a human

Wani was a dragon or sea monster in Japanese mythology. Wani is discribed as "crocodile", or sometimes "shark".

Toyotamahime (See) is a goddess in Japanese mythology. Daughter of the sea god Watatsumi, she was said to reside in a dragon palace. Their palace was as if made from fish scales and supposedly lies undersea. Her true form was “Yahiro no Owani (meaning giant crocodile, approx. 24 m long)”, and she was the wife of Hoori (See2), is known as the epitome of human–animal marriage tales. She was the mother of Ugayafukiaezu-no-Mikoto (See3), father of Emperor Jinmu (the first Emperor: See4), and sister of Tamayori-hime (See5), the Emperor's mother.

Toyotamahime makes a fateful meeting with the demigod prince, Yamasachi, also known as Hoori ("Fire-Subside"). They married and lived happily in the dragon palace. 3 years later, she and her husband Hoori, who missed home, went ashore to give birth.

She then warned her husband, "All people from other parts of the world give birth in the form of their native country when giving birth. So I will give birth to a child in my true form”, and requested Hoori not watch how she gives birth. Hoori, however, was pazzled and peered in on his wife as she was giving birth, and saw her crawling around as a giant crocodile of about 24 metres (79 ft) long. He then startled in shock and retreated. Toyatama-hime learnt that being witnessed her true form by her husband, "I have always intended to pass through the path of the sea," she said, "but I am ashamed that you should have observed my true form.” She blocked the sea path, leaving the child behind and left.

和邇は、日本神話に登場する龍または海の怪物のことである。和邇は「ワニ」、ときには「サメ」と表現されることもある。 

トヨタマヒメ（参照）は、日本神話の女神である。海神ワタツミの娘で、竜宮城に住んでいると言われている。その宮殿は魚の鱗でできたようなもので、海中にあるとされる。その正体は「八尋の大和邇（やひろのおおわに: 体長約24mの巨大な鰐の意）」で、ホオリ（参照2）の妻であったことから、異類婚姻譚の典型として知られる。神武天皇（初代天皇: 参照4）の父である鵜葺草葺不合尊（うがやふきあえずのみこと: 参照3）の母であり、天皇の母である玉依姫（たまよりひめ: 参照5）の姉である。

トヨタマヒメは、半神の王子ヤマサチ、通称ホオリと運命的な出会いを果たす。二人は結婚し、竜宮城で幸せに暮らしたが、3年後、故郷が恋しくなった夫のホオリとともに出産のために陸に上がった。

その時、トヨタマヒメは夫に「すべて他国の者は子を産む時になれば、その本国の形になつて産むのです。それでわたくしももとの身になつて産もうと思いますが、わたくしを御覽遊ばしますな」と忠告した。ところが夫のホオリはその言葉を不思議に思い、妻が今盛んに出産している最中に覗いてみると、八丈 (約24m) もある長い鰐になって這いずり回っていた。そしてホオリは畏れ驚き退いた。しかるにトヨタマヒメは夫が窺見した事を知り、御子を産み置いて去った。「わたくしは常に海の道を通つて通おうと思っておりましたが、わたくしの形を覗いて御覽になつたのは恥かしいことです」と言い、海の道をふさいで帰ってしまった。

マイキャラをOC(Original Character?)と呼んだり、アドパラをadparaと書くのは他ユーザーの投稿で知った！ 「他の言語で書かれた投稿はとても興味深いです、勝手に感謝してます！」って、人間が……

絵文字ってなんとなく世界共通の用途かな～って思うけど、聞いたところによると 🙏ハイタッチ/手を合わせて謝る 📛燃やされる豆腐(!?)/幼稚園児の名札バッヂ とか、ぜんぜん違う意味で受け取られちゃうらしいね( í Y ì ) でも日本のノリ(英語ができない幼稚園児とか)も織り交ぜたいような気も…… ちなみに(´Y｀)は普段のぼく、( í Y ì )は泣いてるぼくを表した顔文字(さすがに伝わるか……？)

自然な英訳がわからなくてとりあえず音の響きをそのまま書かせたところもあるよ。 日本語って意味より雰囲気重視で雑にカタカナを使ったり略したりするのでよく混乱させられる……　Engrishなんかはきっと有名な話。

11月5日(日) 先行上映舞台挨拶 イベントレポート

公開を直前に控えた11月5日（日）、東京・銀座の丸の内TOEIにて先行上映が行われ、上映後には主演の永瀬廉（King ＆ Prince）が舞台挨拶に登壇！ King ＆ Princeによる主題歌「愛し生きること」（LIVE TOUR 2023～ピース～STAGE Ver.）の映像も上映され、会場は大きな盛り上がりを見せました。

撮影中のエピソードを聞かれた永瀬さんは、劇中で学生たちが模擬法廷のゲームに興じる“無辜ゲーム”のシーンについて言及。「無辜ゲームの撮影をした洞窟のシーンはメチャクチャ苦労しました。太陽も見えないので昼か夜かもわからないし、寒くて吐く息も白くて、どこを歩いても（洞窟内なので）景色も同じで、精神的にウッとなる部分もあったけど、みなさんと乗り切って印象に残っています。僕がいない無辜ゲームのシーンの撮影が押した時、洞窟の外の小屋が支度部屋になっていたんですけど、そこで待っている間の夜空の星のキレイさが忘れられないです。メッチャきれいで、芝生のスロープに寝転んで、おにぎりを���べながら星を見ていました」と振り返りました。

そして、この日は主題歌としてエンドロールでも流れたKing ＆ Princeの歌う「愛し生きること」の【LIVE TOUR 2023～ピース～STAGE Ver.】の映像が会場に集まったファンのために上映されました。

永瀬さんはこの楽曲の収録時、自ら録り直しを志願したといいます。OKが出ているにもかかわらず、自ら再収録を志願した真意について永瀬さんは「1回目の収録の音源を聴かせてもらって、歌い方も含め『やり直したい』というのがありました。主題歌――特にこういうトーンの作品ということで、いつものような、笑って楽しく歌う作品でもないですし、僕の息づかいが繊細に、より聴こえてくる楽曲でもあったので、もう一度、お時間を取っていただいて、録らせていただきました。『まだいけるな』、『この歌で『法廷遊戯』をさらに良くできるな』と思ったのでお願いしました。普段はあまり言わないんですけど」と楽曲、そして映画に懸ける熱い思いを吐露してくれました。

この日、上映されたステージ映像は、現在開催中のKing ＆ Princeのツアー公演の開始前に撮影・収録されたものでしたが、白い衣装に身を包んだ永瀬さんと髙橋海人さんが幻想的な雰囲気の中で熱唱する姿が収められており、上映が終わると劇場は温かい拍手に包まれました。

スクリーン横で見ていた永瀬さんも、初めて完成した映像を目にしたそうで「すごっ！ なんか、本当にいい歌っすね！」と興奮した面持ち。「スタッフさんはわざわざ、この曲のパフォーマンスためだけに映像も照明も準備してくださったんです。幻想的で感動的な雰囲気に仕上げていただいて、感謝の気持ちがより強まりました。素敵なものをありがとうございます」と感謝の思いを伝えました。

最後に「もうすぐ『法廷遊戯』がみなさんの元に届きます。この作品は、自分が持ってる正義感とは何か？ ということを含め、自分の中のものを貫くことの難しさや苦しさは共感できる部分だと思います。僕自身も含め、考えたことなかったようなこと――『自分の正義とは何か？』ということを、みなさんに問いかける余白をだいぶ残している作品です。何より主題歌によって、救いのある、主題歌の最後の1秒まで見逃せない作品になっていると思います。ぜひ観終わったら、友達と感想を言い合っても面白いと思います。今日は本当にありがとうございました」と締めくくりました。

2024.02.07 テイラー・スウィフト「THE ERAS TOUR」 @ 東京ドーム

テイラー・スウィフト「THE ERAS TOUR」を見に東京ドームに行ってきました。圧巻の3時間15分でした。

チケットはSS席で三塁側バルコニー席。シートはいいし、２列目だったのでスタンディングせず3時間15分シートに座りながら見られたのが良かった。隣の席はSwiftiesの女の子で、いろいろ話できて楽しかったです。

既にコンサート映画『THE ERAS TOUR』を観ているので、セットリストもステージ内容も分かっていたのですが、一体どこまで東京ドームのコンサートで再現できるのか半信半疑でした。しかし実際にステージを見て、映画を上回る圧巻のパフォーマンス。とにかく素晴らしかった。

However because of it being lost media and also in Japanese, it’s a bit tricky, but i decided to give translating some of the stuff a shot!

Critical Zero LuluShir Crumbs

After seeing THIS, of course I had to get my hands on Critical Zero to see if there were any other LuluShir bits 😂 Thanks to @nicerbutnot2u for reminding me I had this in my drafts.

I have to say, I only checked out the stuff of Shirley-related episodes, but it was a worthy purchase. I wanted to share some of my favorite tidbits but since I don't have the time to translate, I just grabbed the kanji with an app and let DeepL do its magic.

Episode 12

- それと並行しルルーシュとシャーリーの関係にもようやく変化が生じるが、それば悲劇の始まりだった。

At the same time, the relationship between Lelouch and Shirley finally changes, but that is just the beginning of the tragedy.

Episode 14

The story of episodes 13 to 15 revolves around the confrontation between Lelouch and V.V. This is the equivalent of the confrontation with Mao in the first season. Then in episode 12, when Lelouch is in that strategy meeting thinking about Shirley asking him out to the concert, they said it's the reverse of their last phone-call. Lelouch is living in two worlds, and this time, he's the one bringing Shirley into his.

They also say that all those ShirLulu phone-calls hint at their future relationship.

Lastly, about R2 Episode 13, they draw a parallel with what C.C told Lelouch about keeping away anything precious that he doesn't want to lose. He left Shirley's protection to Suzaku and lost her, so they say that one could draw the conclusion that rather than keeping what’s precious to you away, you should protect them with your own hands. 🥺

Ananda - Cousin, the primary attendant and one of the Ten Principal Disciples

Ananda was one of the ten great disciples of the Buddha and was known as the Treasurer of the Dhamma (the one who heard the most) because, as the Buddha's primary attendant, he was always close by to hear his teachings. He is known for his memory, erudition and compassion, and is often praised by the Buddha for these matters. He functions as a foil to the Buddha, however, in that he still has worldly attachments and is not yet attained the Abhijna (the six divine powers: Ref), as opposed to the Buddha.

Ananda was born on the night of the Buddha's attainment. When his father, King Dronodhana, sent a messenger to King Suddhodana (Ref2), the father of Buddha, to inform him of Ananda's birth, King Suddhodana was extremely happy and all the country rejoiced at the birth of the prince, and was named 'Ananda (Bliss)'.

He is generally said to be a cousin of Buddha, and the younger brother of Devadatta (Ref3) who is depicted in various Buddhist scriptures as an evil person who defied the Buddha and his teachings.

When Buddha was 55 years old and Ananda was 25, he too, together with Anuruddha and other princes, went to Buddha and became a disciple of the Buddha.

According to the Chinese Buddhacarita Sangraha (Lalitavistara Sūtra, Buddha's biography translated by Jnanagupta of the Sui Dynasty), Ananda and Devadatta did not obtain permission from the Buddha, when they were ordained.

Is Buddha a saint? (Essay)

Buddha was the prince of a kingdom and grew up without any problems from birth. When he went outside the castle, he saw people struggling with the 4 sufferings of ``birth, old age, disease, and death.'' At that time, Buddha thought, ``What should I do to free people from these sufferings?'' He became a monk, attained enlightenment, and saved people.

Now, what was his state of mind when he witnessed ``birth, old age, disease, and death''? First, common sense suggests that his first impression was that these people were ugly. He is a prince who has never seen anything ugly. He must have felt uncomfortable even if he didn't understand what it meant.

The question then becomes what the Buddha was thinking. If his first impression of ``ugliness'' made him immediately want to ``save them,'' then he is certainly a saint. However, if you look at it from an evil perspective, you could say that he pondered the idea, ``What should I do to maintain a life without any inconvenience as a prince (in some way...not affected by birth, old age, disease, or death...)'' couldn’t you?

Of course, Buddha probably had no intention of maintaining his life as a prince. However, he must have thought about avoiding the pressures of birth, old age, illness, and death ``in the most effective way.'' In other words, he probably thought that he wanted to be saved first and foremost, not others, but himself. This is how I think "common sense". As a result, Buddha came to be known as a saint.

仏陀は聖人か？（エッセイ）

仏陀は王国の王子、生まれてから何不自由なく育った。彼が城外に出てみると、「生老病死」の苦しみにあえぐ人々を目撃した。その時、仏陀は「人々をこれらの苦しみから解放するためにはどうしたらいいか？」と考え、出家し、悟りを開いて人々を救ったという。

さて、「生老病死」を目にしたときの、彼の心理はどうだったのだろう？まず常識的に考えられるのは、「これらの人々が醜い」という第一印象を、彼が持ったということであろう。彼は醜いものなどみたこともない王子だ。意味することは解らずとも、不快に感じたに違いない。

そしてその時、仏陀がなにを考えたかが、問題になる。「醜い」という第一印象から、直ちに「彼らを救いたい」と考えたのなら、たしかに彼は聖人だ。だが、意地悪い見方をすれば、「王子としての何不自由のない生活を、何らかの形で（・・・生老病死に左右されない・・・）維持するにはどうすれば良いか」と考えをめぐらしたと言えなくもない。

もちろん、王子としての生活をそのまま維持しようとは仏陀も考えてはいなかったろう。だが生老病死の圧力を「もっとも有効な形で」回避することは考えたであろう。つまりは、まずは他人ではなく、何より自分が救われたい、と考えたのではないか。このように、「常識的な」私は考える。そして結果として、仏陀は聖人と言われるようになったのだろう。
