i’ve been reading a lot of steddie fluff and hurt/comfort and honestly i want to read something where they fight. i want one of them to say something careless and mean and stupid and the other says something equally mean and careless and stupid.
steve, whose become like a permanent fixture in the munson trailer, storms out to go back to his parents house. doesn’t even know if they’re home, just wants to leave. eddie slams the door and blasts his music, even though wayne is sleeping and has work tonight. max comes over to bother eddie to turn the music down because she can hear it from her trailer (but also to neb and see what’s got munson’s panties in a bunch) and he just word-vomits everything to her. and he circles back and repeats himself and goes “and ANOTHER THING-“ And robin and nancy are out for a drive and see steve’s car at his parents’. robin calls him later to see whats going on and he just spews it all out to her. despite him leaving eddie’s hours ago, he’s still fuming.
and it’s not like a little fight where they just said something stupid, no, they were like, really mean. like. steve has a migraine and eddie’s being loud and boisterous and so steve snaps at him instead of communicating what he needs. and eddie, who has a learned self defense mechanism of dishing it out as good as he gets it, snaps right back. and then it escalates and they’re yelling, and they’re saying things they don’t mean, and it’s a week where they don’t talk to each other they just bitch to their friends about each other (and eventually robin and max compare notes and sus out the real problem, that they were both dicks). and they need an intervention, to be sat down and told to apologize, that they can’t say the things they said to each other, that they can’t keep talking about each other behind their backs (argyle very pointedly tells them it’s harshing the vibe).
and then, yeah, they apologize and they thaw out and we’re into the comfort part of the hurt, we’re into the fluff, but god, i just want them to fucking get mad at each other and be assholes for a while (they both have it in them, i know it)

When Max wakes up her sight has been severely damaged, she needs special glasses that have quite thick frames. She hates them. None of her friends wear glasses and she's in high school which is just a breeding ground for bullies. So she doesn't want to wear them. Steve has had so many hits to the head over the years that his hearing and sight is a bit fucked. He hates his glasses too, he made fun of kids in high school with glasses. Steve thinks all he's got to offer is his face and body so he doesn't want glasses to ruin that. He wants his kids to be happy though and wants them to be healthy and capable. So he wears his glasses for Max, she's ecstatic when he visits her wearing them, it's one of the first smiles she's made since waking up. Max feels better knowing she's not alone, and Steve finds he doesn't mind his glasses as much now.

I headcanon that Steve's parents already went on trips a lot leaving Steve alone but after season 1 they leave for much longer stretches of time, so as the seasons progress we see Steve settle into how he wants to be, he wears his hair a little longer and more swoopy and loose. His clothes become more comfortable rather than clean cut and pressed. He starts to feel ok in the times between his parents trips.
