☺ ( Cassie @ Hatty)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I am not going to compliment a man that has deluded himself into thinking he is correct when he insults me. He believed his lie even though he knew it was not true and honestly, I'd find his conviction impressive if I didn't think he lacked basic decency.” she states, “Why should I offer anything — even in jest — when asking him to genuinely apologize is too difficult for him? He gets nothing, as he deserves.”

do that with Cassie
Sure! :D
Cassie:
favorite thing about them I adore how sassy she can be- like yeah she'll go down and save Gregory from the ruined Pizzaplex, that's her bestie she'd do anything for him, but that won't stop her from complaining about it. i.e. "Under Roxy Racers? *huff* that's all the way on the other side, I'm not even close." Also I believe her VA said something about her not being scared when going into the Pizzaplex iirc cause she "didn't know she was supposed to be scared" and I think that's interesting,,, "yeah that old, decaying, falling apart, creepy Pizzaplex? I don't see why I'd be scared. Gregory wants me to go there so I'm sure it's safe. Plus, what could possibly be hiding inside anyways? Bugs?" <---clueless
least favorite thing about them I'm not good at picking out least favorite things about characters I love LMAO They're just precious and beloved and I see no wrong in them<333
favorite line "that was too close. I was almost a Cassie sandwich" the DELIVERY. I love her so much even in the worst situations she's still making little shithead remarks/aff
brOTP Her and Gregory are the siblings ever<333
OTP Again- if these can be purely platonic and have no familial or romantic meaning, then her and Ellis should be and would be best friends and I stand by this forever and ever
nOTP x
random headcanon When she met up with Gregory again after SB she started helping him tear down his missing posters. She didn't know why he wanted them gone or why he was so hesitant in public, but she didn't want to pry too much and just wanted to help out. She tried, couldn't get a lot of answers out of him, and realized it was just too out of his comfort zone to talk about whatever happened while he was missing, so she just resorted to helping him however she can!
unpopular opinion Tbh I don't think she'd be angry after the elevator fall or even believe it was Gregory- at least not immediately!! Like- I could see her becoming angry over time, but I honestly think that at first she'd 100% think it was the Mimic- I mean- she literally just met a giant endo that was trying to kill her that mimicked her friends voice and communicated through speakers, I don't think she'd assume her best friend would try and kill her after meeting a dude like that. Maybe she'd end up thinking it was Gregory later and becoming way more bitter about it afterwards if we're going the Vannie route, but I think at first she'd just be really tired and sad and upset at the Mimic, but not at Gregory. She probably just thinks "he's my best friend, he would never do that. I'm sure he's on his way to get me right now, so I just need to survive a few more hours and I'll be fine." or something like that
song i associate with them Hmmm if we're talking Vannie arc then I'd say "I'm Irritated" by Fishy Bishie. If we're talking normal Cassie, then I don't listen to a lot of songs that I would consider "Cassiecore" that aren't specifically made to be Cassie songs if you know what I mean? But maybe that one really good part of "One Normal Night"
favorite picture of them
Tumblr media
She's so confident and happy how could you possibly hate her<333

Cassie: And then, in all capital letters, two hours later,
Gregory: *falling over with laughter*
Cassie: "MARK ZUCKERBERG."

Chapter Two: Recap
Jason lay in bed until the late afternoon. He worried about how Bruce would react to the end of their conversation. He tidied up his apartment and allowed his phone to ring in the background until he could no longer tolerate the noise. "What?" Jason snapped as he answered his phone.
"Jason, you have no idea how worried everyone's been!" Dick yelled at him.
"How is it that I have to answer every single time one of you calls? I just want some time to myself—."
"Then say that, Jason! Jesus Christ! None of us know where you live, where you work, nothing! So, of course, we're all gonna panic when you hang up like that!" Dick chastised him.
"I get that, I do, but has it occurred to any of you that calling me four times a day every day to make sure I'm alive isn't helping me at all?" Jason asked. He heard Dick sigh on the other line.
"Why can't you just tell him this yourself? Why's it so hard for you to talk to him?" Dick asked.
"Because it's not his fault. It's nobody's fault but mine," Jason replied, "I just need a break. I'm tired."
"What are you tired of?" Dick asked the emotion rose in his voice.
Jason sat back on his bed and took a deep breath.
"I just want everyone to take a break from worrying about me all the time. I need a break from it... Aren't you tired, Dick?" Jason asked.
"Of course, I'm not. That's what families do. We worry about each other, which is the only way we can show that we love each other in this family," Dick whispered, "But if you need some time to breathe, I'll tell him that. We can give you that." Jason relaxed, and his shoulders dropped.
"Thanks," Jason whispered.
"But tell me one thing before I hang up... How was it hanging out with Laney after all these years?" Dick asked.
"It was fun... Like nothing changed," Jason replied. He caught himself smiling.
"Nothing?" Dick asked. Jason furrowed his brows.
"What?" Jason asked.
"Nevermind," Dick replied before hanging up. Jason went about the rest of his day, cleaning up and getting ready to go to the laundry room. Still, he wondered about all the cryptic messages Dick and Laney conveyed to him.
Jason decided to call Laney back on his way down to the laundry room, but he didn't exactly know what to say to him. "Ooh, he misses me," Laney teased.
"What did you mean last night?" Jason asked.
"I don't remember anything about last night," Laney answered without hesitation.
"Liar," Jason replied as he loaded the washing machine and put his quarters in. "Laney, when we were kids and got in trouble for sneaking into that movie, our dads told us we couldn't hang out anymore."
"It doesn't matter why anymore, Jason. We can hang out now," Laney answered sweetly, "That's all that matters, isn't it?"
"I'm starting to think that our parents told us two very different stories... Laney, please," Jason pleaded.
"I didn't know what I was talking about last night. I was just being my usual troublemaking self... I wasn't gonna tell you this, but I only got drunk because I didn't know what to say to you," Laney confessed, "I wasn't even sure if you would be anything like what I remember."
"Was I?" Jason asked.
"Yeah, I forgot how fun it was pissing you off. Except you're taller than me now, so instead of crying about it, you could just knock my head off," Laney laughed. Jason snickered.
Jason sat down on a bench while his clothes were in the wash. "Still an asshole," Jason laughed.
"Remember the day we met, and I made you cry?" Laney laughed.
"Yeah, you told me that veal was human meat," Jason replied. Laney hollered on the other line, still laughing at Jason. "I vividly remember throwing up immediately after you told me that."
"I'm sorry. That was terrible, but why did you believe me? Why would a restaurant serve human meat?" Laney took a deep breath.
Jason chuckled. "Okay, you have a point. Remember when I invited you to stay the night after that just so I could give you a wet willy while you were sleeping?" Jason laughed. "Isn't that how we ended up being friends?" Laney asked.
"No, we became friends after Christmas when—. No, it was New Year's," Jason messed with his hair.
"No, I'm pretty sure it was Christmas because you asked me why I was so mean to you all the time," Laney's voice softened, "You remember, don't you?" Jason didn't answer. Laney laughed uncomfortably. "I think your dad thought we were gonna end up killing each other before we made it to high school."
"I used to think about it before we were friends," Jason replied.
"Think about what?" Laney asked.
"Killing you," Jason answered casually. He got up and checked on his clothes during the awkward silence. Jason broke the silence with a laugh. "Lane?" Jason asked seriously.
"What?" Laney asked.
Jason kicked at nothing. "I haven't had fun in a really long time, but I had a lot of fun last night. Thanks for that," Jason mumbled, "And sorry for kicking you out earlier. It wasn't you—."
"Don't finish that sentence. Otherwise, I'm gonna think you're breaking up with me," Laney joked. He paused before changing his tone, "I know you, Jay. I knew you weren't okay when my dad gave me your number. I know you probably don't want me to come back today, but whenever you need somebody to just listen, I'm here."
Jason allowed the silence to flood in for a little while, and he found himself thinking about Laney's full weight on him as they held each other on the dancefloor that night. "Still there?" Laney asked.
"Mhm... Laney, you should come back later on today," Jason whispered. Laney made an affirmative noise.
"Ooh, should I wear my negligee this time?" Laney teased.
"Fuck off," Jason laughed, "What if I had terrible news?"
"Well, I bet you feel less terrible now. Do you think your dad will let us stay up past nine this time?"
"Bye, Lane," Jason rolled his eyes.
"Bye, Jay," Laney replied and hung up. Jason moved his laundry from the washer to a dryer, and he sat back down on the bench. A woman that lived on his floor came in and put her clothes in the washer.
"Having a yucky day again, sweetie?" she asked. Jason shook his head.
"I was, but I think I'll be okay now," Jason smiled.
The woman smiled and pulled two magazines out of her bag and handed one of them to Jason. She opened her magazine and held it up by Jason's face. "Have you ever thought about adding olive green to your wardrobe?" she asked. Jason chuckled.
"Are you telling me that I'm an autumn?" Jason asked. She nodded and looked back at the color scheme.
"I don't know about this orange on you, though... Or yellow..." She looked back and forth at him and the magazine.
"I hate to be weird, but how do you open up to an old friend when you haven't seen them for a long time?" Jason asked.
"That's a silly question. I have a better question for you. What is the risk of opening up to your friend?" she asked.
"I just don't want him to worry about me. I don't wanna feel weird about talking to him..." Jason trailed off.
"I think things might already be weird between the both of you. You seem like you're out of sorts today. I think if this person is really your friend, things won't be weird at all," she replied, "Do you still journal as we talked about?"
"I try to, but writing it down freaks me out. I just feel like I'm saying something dumb," Jason replied. They talked for a while until Jason's clothes finished drying, and he stayed to fold. After he finished folding, he said his goodbyes and made his way back to his apartment to make himself something to eat.
He felt a little sick to his stomach, being that he hadn't eaten all day. He made himself a sandwich and a cup of tea. He turned the tv on and allowed his mind to drift back to the day Jason and Laney got in trouble. He could only remember sneaking into the movie theater. Jason couldn't remember how they got caught or anything else from that day. That day seemed so important to him, and yet, he couldn't remember anything about it.
Jason got up, made himself some dinner, and soaked in the bath for a while. He closed his eyes and sank under the water, holding his breath and counting backward from one-hundred. By the time Jason got to zero, his head was clear. He pulled the plug and stood up slowly, grabbing his towel and drying his face.
Laney knocked on his door, and he wrapped the towel around his waist before going to answer. "You're early," Jason stated as he opened the door. Lane cleared his throat uncomfortably.
"What will the neighbors think?" Laney joked as he entered the apartment and closed the door behind him. Jason made his way back to his room to get dressed. "You went from being like four-foot-six to like six-foot-four. You gotta let me in on how you did that," Laney noted.
"Laboratory explosion!" Jason answered sarcastically from the other room. Laney put his bag on the floor and got comfortable on the couch.
"Some guys just have all the luck," Laney joked, "Listen, Jay... I'm gonna be straight with you. You know how our little brothers are friends?"
"Yeah..." Jason came out of his room in his pajamas and a t-shirt.
"The clumsy one... Uh, Tim, he told Conner that you haven't been home in months. He didn't say why, but he did say that everyone misses you," Laney admitted.
"Oh, well... I'm gonna tell you about that," Jason mumbled as he went straight to the kitchen. Laney kicked his shoes off and lay on the couch.
"If it makes it less awkward, I can tell you about something that I did that made my parents freak out," Laney replied.
"What did you do?" Jason asked. He smiled and turned around to look at Laney.
"That's just what my mom said," Laney laughed, "I got a tattoo. It says 'mom' in a heart on my back."
"No, you don't," Jason laughed.
"You're right, I got a belly button piercing as a gag," Laney replied.
"Got any other lies?" Jason asked.
"Ooh, one more... I didn't run away and try to go to your house after our parents said we couldn't hang out anymore," Laney replied. Jason's smile faded, and he turned back around to the fridge. "So, do you wanna tell me why you won't go home?"
"What?" Jason asked.
"Our brothers are friends. They talk," Laney replied. Jason shrugged.
"I had a rough time with a class last semester... It brought up a lot of bad memories, memories of things I thought I buried. Instead of telling Bruce that I was struggling, I kept it to myself," Jason mumbled. Laney leaned forward and made a noise to indicate that he was listening. "I figured once the semester was over, I'd be fine... But it was worse. We were gonna go on a summer trip, and I just wanted to stay home and be by myself... Get some sleep."
"What happened, Jason?" Laney asked. His voice was nearly unrecognizable to Jason.
Jason swallowed hard. "I couldn't sleep the whole time they were gone, and everyone came home early, asking how I was and what I was planning to do during the summer... And I snapped. I don't remember what happened in between, but I know that Bruce and I got into this huge fight. I don't remember what I said or what I did, but he checked me into the hospital. The day I was discharged was the last time we saw each other in person," Jason's voice broke, and he held his breath.
"Jason... Is that why you don't wanna go home?" Laney asked.
"I want to go home," Jason whimpered as tears streamed down his cheeks, "I just feel like I'm gonna implode every time I talk to him. I don't know why..." Jason couldn't talk through his tears anymore, and he felt a pair of arms wrap around him.
"It doesn't sound like anyone is holding that against you, buddy," Laney whispered. Jason turned around and held onto Laney.
"I can't go home," Jason wept. Laney let go and backed away.
"I used to think you were just messing with me, but you really don't remember a lot of things... Do you?" Laney asked. Jason wiped his face.
"What?" Jason asked. "What does that have to do with—?"
"It doesn't mean anything. I was just thinking out loud," Laney replied, "Besides, from what my brothers say, it sounds like your family misses you."
"It doesn't change what I did... Don't you ever wish you could go back in time and stop yourself before you do something stupid?" Jason asked.
"All the fucking time... But the thing is, we can't. Jason, he's your dad. I really don't think he cares about what you did or why you did it. I think he just wants you to come home," Laney suggested. Jason shook his head.
"It's not that easy. Every day, Lane... Bruce calls me every single day, two times a day in the least. Ever since I left home, I feel like there's so much pressure to go back and pretend that things are normal—."
"Jason, of course, you can't pretend things are normal. No one is asking you to pretend things are okay. Maybe they want to work on things with you," Laney replied, "And I get how you're feeling. I really do. I had a hard time telling my parents about my feelings... But once I did, we really got closer, and it was worth it." Jason sat on the couch and hugged his knees. Laney sat next to him on the sofa and turned the tv on.
Laney's phone rang, and he looked at Jason. "Mind if I get this?" Laney asked. Jason shook his head. "Hey," Laney answered, "Oh no, I'm not home right now... I will when I get home... Uh-huh... I said I wouldn't, Mom... I love you too, bye." Laney hung up.
Jason opened his mouth to speak, and Laney turned to look at him. "Lane... How come nothing's changed?"
"What do you mean?" Laney asked as he changed the channel.
"How is it still easy to talk to you?" Jason asked as he let go of his knees and planted his feet on the floor.
"It's because I get you," Laney replied calmly. He stretched out on the couch, throwing his legs over Jason's lap. "Also, you're not that different from how I remember you." Jason pushed Laney's legs off his lap and went straight to the kitchen.
"I can order some pizza," Jason offered.
"I already did, right before I left. It should be here any minute now," Laney replied.
As soon as the pizza deliverywoman came, Jason paid her and sat on the couch. "What have you been up to, Lane?" Jason asked.
"In the past eight years or—."
"Yeah, sure, Laney," Jason interrupted. Laney took a bite of pizza.
"Well, as you know, I was already on pretty thin ice with my parents when we were fourteen... So, they sent me away to go to school because they thought it'd keep me out of trouble. Fast forward like two years, they let me go back to regular school, and I'm pretty sure I went to my prom at some point... Oh, and I dated a friend of the family, which was kind of nice for a while," Laney replied.
"Oh? For how long?" Jason asked.
"Three years. We broke up two and a half years ago," Laney answered, "And what have you been up to? I know it hasn't been all bad."
"It wasn't. I was in a few plays in high school. I start working on campus pretty soon, and last year I got a xylophone... I don't remember why—."
"Do you still have it?" Laney asked. Jason nodded, and Laney gestured for Jason to go get it. Jason finished his slice of pizza and went to wash his hands. He went to his room and came out with a dark wooden xylophone.
"You can have it if you want—."
"No fucking way. Hold on," Laney replied, wiping his hands on a napkin and grabbed the mallets. "I had this roommate a few years ago that got a xylophone as a present from his parents because he said he was bored, and he was gonna throw it out, and well..." Laney played a tune on the xylophone.
"You play the xylophone?" Jason asked as he went back to eating. Laney nodded, smiling a devilish half-smile. For a while, Jason almost forgot they'd ever been apart.
As the night went on, Jason and Laney talked to each other about just about everything. Around midnight, Jason got up to turn the lights down, stopping as soon as he heard Laney mumble something. "Say what, Lane?" Jason asked.
"I didn't have any real friends until I met you. I mean, I've got some really great friends now, but you and me, we were partners in crime," Laney whispered. Jason smiled and nodded. "Did you really used to think about killing me?" Laney asked.
Jason grabbed some blankets from his closet and gave them to Laney. "Oh yeah," Jason laughed, "Remember when you put that rubber spider in my bed? I thought about smothering you with a pillow, but I wasn't sure I'd get away with it. Why? You never thought about it?"
"I never really got mad at you... Except for when you gave me a wet willy, that was disgusting, and you didn't have to spit on me after," Laney laughed, "I've never seen anyone that angry in my whole life."
"Oh, Lane, the couch is a pullout," Jason pointed out. Laney got up and looked at the couch.
"Oh, it is," Laney replied as he moved Jason's coffee table and pulled the couch bed out. "Turning in?"
Jason nodded. "Goodnight, Laney."
"Night," Laney replied.
Laney lay awake for a little while after Jason went to bed before sending a text to someone. By the time Jason woke up, Laney was gone.

Like We're Gonna Die Young
Warnings; drugs and alcohol, getting clean, relapsing SLOW BURN - not edited
Tumblr media
It seemed like it was Alastor's lucky day, having had tea with Rosie, gossiping about the happenings in Cannibal town as well as speaking about the dammed hotel. Taking his time, strolling through the streets, his mind lost in throught about the woman he saw in the video on that blasted modern contraption Angel Dust owned.
Who was she and why did she have such information on Vox?
More importantly, why wasn't it the information itself just sticking, why was her facial expressions staying in his mind? The way she was so confident when she confronted Vox, the ways her lips moved as he presumed she song.
He shook his head. It was awful. He just needed to get his information then she would be rid of his thoughts. Surely it would work out that way.
It had to be nothing more than a fad he resigned himself to.
Strolling through the town, making his way to the ends of Canabal town he spotted your form, speaking with none other than Cassie.
Strolling over to greet, with a flourish of his hand and a slight bow, he introduced himself, even if he was offput with how closely you resembled a dog,
"Salutations!"
His voice was stiffer and harsher than he intended for a greeting, but it would have to do.
"My name is Alastor, the radio demon. I couldn't help but notice you are from a small picture show. I saw the way you had Vox wrapped around claw, I positively had to know how"
You looked nervous. Rubbing your arm, gently scratching at your skin. Again you were trying again to go clean and sober. You were starting to feel withdrawals.
"O-oh! That. Cassie gave me the information. I'm just the messenger. I'm (y/n) by the way"
You continued to scratch your arm as Alastor crooked his head to the side, the sounds of bone crunching and crackling as he did .
"Just the messenger?"
He asked, clarifying one more time, to which you nodded. He then let out some sort of hum, sounding like a bee stuck in a jar. It hurt your ears to say the least.
He turns on his heel back facing you, his red coat fluttering softly as he does,
"Terribly sorry. Thank you for your time"
And with that, he left.
You scratched your arm, a little harder. It was really starting to bother you now. Just a small hit, a little one, it would make it stop. No, you reminded yourself. Your clean.
You turned back to the sidewalk, muttering and mumbling to yourself as you walked.
Failing to pay attention to where you were walking, you bumped into a certain spider demon.
After apologizing to each other Angel Dust realizes something is off. The scratching of your arm, how you look tired, been through hell one could say.
"You alright toots? Are ya?"
He tilts his head to the side. You nod. He sticks out one of his many hands,
"Angel Dust. I know a place that can help. That is if you want any"
"(Y/n). That would be nice"
Without any further explanation, he leads you towards the hotel after stopping by your place for a few bags of your belongings, then getting whisked away to the hotel, the entire time you and Angel Dust speaking. Mostly about getting clean, a shared goal the two of you have, and thus becoming fast friends.
Hand in hand Angel Dust took you to the Hazbin Hotel, where he swiftly introduced you to Charlie. Charlie Morning star was bouncing off the walls after Angel Dust introduced you to her. She was happy that another sinner had decided to check in.
You then crossed path with Alastor, finding out that he was the manager of the hotel. He again bowed to you, ever the gentleman, helping you with what belongings you had and helped you get settled into your room, telling you to inform him if you needed anything, then taking his leave to let you settle in.

More bitching about Animorphs #38.
But also I'm somewhat mollified because the writing does pick up a bit from chapter 11 onwards...
Tumblr media
Cassie channels her inner Luke Skywalker. Unfortunately for her, Marco has also seen Star Wars, and he's not on board with this nonsense.
Tumblr media
Cassie, what the fuck are you even talking about?? Assassinating one's nemesis is the cowardly, easy way out??
Cassie Animorphs! You! are! a! guerrilla! terrorist! Now is not the time to be channeling the Marquess of bloody Queensberry!
Tumblr media
No, just because you, Cassie—unwilling child soldier and aspiring pacifist—don't perceive assassination to be a valid tactic of asymmetric warfare, doesn't mean that it is therefore "murder".
At least Marco knows which genre of story he's in... :/
Following this outburst, Jake is all like "I'm just too fucking tired to even breathe, let alone figure out what to do about these dropkick Andalite Irregulars and their big talk... "
And then a whole bunch of stuff happens very quickly:
Rachel is all like "no really, wtf is our plan?!"
So Marco (lightly) SLAPS RACHEL ACROSS BOTH CHEEKS in a 'snap out of it' gesture, ordering her to "wise up" and accept that they've lost the war.
Rachel, naturally, flips the fuck out and starts beating up Marco. Marco cowers on the ground and receives his beating until Jake physically steps in to pull Rachel off of him.
Tobias is like "okay, yeah, fuck this; I'm done. goodbye forever" and he peaces outta there
Then Rachel fucking GOES OFF! She's all like "I don't remember ever seeing MY signature at the bottom of the Geneva convention! And I am SO DONE with this pathetic baby shit! So fuck all you fucking losers, I'm going solo! Time to show these fucking Yeerks what REAL fucking terrorism looks like!!!" and she leaves too.
Then Cassie is like "I'm out too; if this is unwinnable then how can we justify continuing to kill Hork-Bajir Controllers when they're basically just innocent victim prisoners of war??"
(so I guess this is genuinely some character growth? she's so sickened by war she can't bring herself to continue. It's not just lazy flanderization)
Then Marco bails too
And Ax is the last man standing. He reaffirms his oath of loyalty to Jake, but Jake is like, "nah man, we're done here. No more Animorphs. Go hook up with the Andalite Ginyu Squad to get yourself home."
Next chapter: Ax hooks up with the Andalite Irregulars, and notices that they give him sus vibes... 🤔

Meet a sister, catch a girl
Meet Cute Monday Bonus (so that it's 52 on AO3)
Meet cute Monday Masterlist
Masterlist
For @boldlyanxious Happy belated Birthday and the first MCM was for you, it's seems natural that the last (planned) MCM is for you too.
I've done it!! 🎉🥂 52 (+1) MCMs!! Now that is a wrap and I can panic about other works instead.
...............................
Kon stared at the building nervously. He knew logically that meeting her changed nothing. That all this was just more a formality than anything else but to him his whole world was changing. This was groundbreaking. Even more so than heroes coming back from the 'dead'. Rising from the dead was old hat now. Finding out Lex has had other partners (other than his creepy obsession with Clark) was mind blowing and then to find out you have a half sister… that was… it is… ok, Kon was terrified, but he refused to show it.
"Arewejustgoingtojuststandhereorcanwegoinnow? I'm hungry!"
Rousing from his musing, Kon turned to his moral support, his chosen family, to find Bart bouncing on his feet. His eyes darted about the place as he watched Parisians rush about doing civilian stuff. Tim just raised an eyebrow at Kon as the tired teen leaned against Cassie.
"Yeah Kon. Why are we here?"
Cassie smirked back at Kon, the pair reading him all too clearly. Deciding to take back control and not let these so-called friends bully him, Kon steeled himself.
"One, Bart we will. In a minute. I'm just… just hang on a moment. Two. Rob, Tim, /you/ need a break, a holiday after like everything. This is what you need, an escape from the grime of Gotham to the city of lights, which still has Gothic architecture so your not completely not at home."
"A place that I trained with Shiva and only last year almost got blown up and killed in. Good choice of a getaway, Kon."
"Uhhhh, ok, you know the place and /we're/ here too. So it is a break. And Three, Cassie is here as we're the core four. We can't exclude her."
"Nope, you can't exclude me. That doesn't say why you're not going in though, Kon. You scared?"
"What!? No!! Maybe… this is life changing for me and as my family, I want you here with me."
Ignoring his friends' chuckles, Kon pouted. They were right about him being scared and all, and if he didn't move soon he'd be late. Drawing on the courage he usually used to take on aliens and villainous masterminds Kon took a step forward out into the busy Parisian street traffic to collide with another teen.
Admittedly he hardly felt anything but the girl bounced off him and onto the floor with an oof. Staring down, cornflower blue eyes blink back up at him in surprise. Cherry blush lips are sucked together before being bitten as the cutie winces as she moves to stand grasping her iced coffee tight. An 'Eeeeps' escapes her as Kon feels his friends leaning over his shoulder to stare down at her.
Shrugging them off, Kon extended a hand to the bruised teen whose callused fingers accepted. What felt like electricity passed between them, eyes widening in shock as they continued to take each other in. Kon felt hypnotised by the cornfield eyes, in a good way - not in a bad guy going to take over. His heart sped up as he swallowed. He offered the girl an apologetic smile and opened his mouth to speak when she beat him to it.
"Zut alors!!! You're built like a brick. That was like running into a wall. Baguettes!! I'm late!! Bonjour, thank you! Sorry!! Au Revoir!!"
Sending him an awkward grin, the teen let go of his hand and dashed off towards the building he had been working his way up to entering, downing her drink at an impressive rate.
"DoyouthinksheisyoursisterKon??"
"Dark hair, blue eyes match. Skin tones are different though. It is a possibility."
"She doesn't have to take after Lex either. Kon looks more like Clark anyway so definitely a chance. And she went into the location that Kons agreed to meet his sister."
"Gods! I hope she isn't."
"What?" "What!" "Judgement much!!"
Kon pulled his hand down his face and groaned. Damnit, he she seemed… nice, even if a tad chaotic and he would adore getting to know her more… but they had a moment and it didn't feel like a sibling moment.
"No, I, errrr… let's just go get this over with."
The quartet entered the Le Grand Paris Hotel to witness the fallen teen dart into an elevator. Resisting the urge to follow the dark-haired girl, Kon stuffed his hands into his leather jacket and walked up to the hotel's reception desk.
"Hi, I'm here to meet Chloe Bourgeois. I think I have an appointment."
Kon was met with a hugely judgemental look which only increases when his friends get closer. They tip tapped away on the keyboard while looking at the computer screen. With a scrunched up frown they seemed to be appeased by whatever they were searching for.
"Miss Bourgeois is on the top floor by the pool. You can't miss her. The top floor is reserved for our most honoured guests, so please do not disturb them with whatever you require from the young heiress."
"Err… ok. Yeah, sure."
The core four piled into the elevator and rode it up to the roof. Meeting them at the top was a red headed girl who escorted them to Chloe. Kon was dumbfounded as Chloe was blonde. His friends also seemed surprised as this wasn't who they expected. The harsh icy blue eyes were a spitting image of Lex, and her harsh tongue to both the redhead and his friends was frustratingly similar. Clenching his fists, he ignore the irritation and sat down as his friends waved him off and wished him luck as they went off with Sabrina to let Kon and Chloe get to know each other.
Trying to connect with Lex's daughter was… painful. If he was the son of Clark with a sprinkling of Lex, Chloe was the daughter of Lex with a sprinkling of her mother, but at the same time what she gave way about her mother made it sound like she was just as bad. Her drivel was sucking out his soul. The nervous and excited energy he once was being crushed.
What didn't help him, as Kon tried to focus on what his half sister was saying, was across the way was the petite teen who'd crashed into him earlier talking animatedly with the Jagged Stone! He could hear her with her light giggle. He could see her with her tongue pointing out her mouth as she concentrated and putting something down in her note book.the way the sun hit her, lot her up sonit was like she glowed. It was cute. It was adorable. It was attractive. It was very very distracting.
Chloe said something meaningless to Kon, and he replied still keeping an eye on the semi mysterious girl on the other side of the roof. The conversation had somehow drifted to Lex and his hair, or lack of it as Chloe bemoaned her fears of inheriting that gene. Kon could admit he had that fear too and joined in moaning about their joint parent, all the while sending glancing looks across the water.
Suddenly he jumped up, startling Chloe, as he witnessed a CROCODILE appear and start biting the girl. She screamed in surprise as the other teen started to wrestle with the beast. Kon went to help when Chloe grabbed his arm.
"What the hell Conner!!"
"There's a guest being mauled by a crocodile!! We need to help!!"
"What? Where?"
"Over there!!!!"
Kon shot his half sister an incredulous look. Was she blind. Why wasn't she let him go, he didn't want to hurt her, but, this was serious.
"*Huff* oh my god! This is ridiculous! Utterly utterly ridiculous. Sabrina!! SABRINA!"
Frowning, Kon swiftly but carefully removed Chloe's grip from his arm and rushed towards the incident. He found he was met by his friends who had rushed to help to observe the 'injured' teen tickling and baby talking to the giant reptile.
"Who's a good boy? Who's a good boy? Fangs a good boy, the cutest. Who wants all the attention. Was Jagged taking up all my attention Fang? He was, wasn't he."
Kon was confused. This was not what he was expecting. Ok maybe he had been hoping he'd come in to save the day and get a hero's kiss from the girl (if she wasn't too badly hurt obviously!). Finding her playing and treating the monster as if it was a puppy was… unexpected. He turned to the other Young Justice members who were just as bemused as he was.
"CanIpethimtoo?"
Bart's enthusiastic question followed by peering over the girl's shoulder spooked the fellow teen who let out a loud squeak of surprise. She tipped back to look up and see everyone but by doing so shifted her weight so that she fell.
Into the pool with a loud splash!
Without thinking, Kon shucked off his leather jacket and dived in seamlessly as the dark haired beauty floundered in the water by the unexpected dip. With grace Kon swam to her and pulled her to the side of the pool where his friends helped pull her out.
Pushing himself out he joined the growing gathering to gently rub the back of the now spluttering teen.
"Dupain-Cheng you are a disaster. A major clutz! Sabby, Darling get the riff raff a towel… and one for Luthor-Kent. I suppose he needs one too. And keep the water away from my hair!!"!
"C-c-c-cheers Chloe. L-l-l-ovely feedback. I'll file it-t-t-t with the rest of yo-ur crit-t-ti-ques."
Impervious to Kon's discontent with how the conversation was going as he tried to soothe the partially drown victim, Chloe continued.
"As you should do. Mummy thinks you have potential and you need to aspire to improve to avoid disappointment."
Dupain-Cheng rolled her eyes as she coughed more and shivering. Kon wrapped her closer trying to warm her up with his Kryptonian 'warmer than normal' body. He grab the towels off Sabrina as she returned and started to wrap Dupain-Cheng up in one before draping one around himself
"Chloe… that's… what the hell!?"
"MINI ROCKSTAR!!"
"Oh g-g-g-ods! S-s-sabrina, s-save me! Jag-g-g-ged is go-i-ing t-t-to go nuts-s-s-s!"
"Marinette I'll… I'll try but this is."
Before the redhead could finish her sentence, the over dramatic rockstar appeared with his manager in tow. He pulled Marinette from Kon's grasp, who pouted, and started fussing over her trying to bark orders about, with his manager shutting them down as quickly as he came up with them.
Chloe whistled a piercing sound as she glowered at everyone who turned to face her.
"Ms Rolling, take Mr Stone and his pet to his room. He is upsetting other guests and you know what Daddy's terms are about him staying here. Sabby, go to my room and get Dupain-Cheng some dry clothes. Last seasons and not the nice stuff either…. and see if the spa had anything that may fit Luthor-Kent. The rest of you sit!!"
Cassie looked like she wanted to say something but Chloe's glare shut it down. Slowly everyone moved to following the instructions in a cautious manner.
"Th-thank you."
The soft whisper of a voice caught Kon's attention.
"For s-s-saving me, that is. A-a-and f-f-for helping m-me warm up-p"
"No problem Cuteness. It's all in the hero's job."
The arched eyebrow caused Kon to pause and blush as he watched her bluebell eyes sparkle in the light and processed what he said.
"S-s-uppose you are m-my hero t-today."
Kon grinned at the comment, warmth rushed through him as at least some of what he had hoped for happened. Lifting an arm around her shoulder, Kon pulled her closer, rubbing it a little more to try and dry Marinette off and warm her up more.
"Yurgh! Gross. Now this is ridiculous, utterly ridiculous."
Kon and Marinette blinked up at Chloe.
"You are not going to play cutsy with my brother Dupain-Cheng!"
"B-b-rother?!"
As Marinette tried to lean away, Kon held her close and narrowed his eyes at his half sister.
"Yes. Half, thankful. Did you see what he considered fashionable? Disgraceful."
"I… I was-sn't aware Audrey had other child, other than Z-z-zoe."
Chloe sniffed in disgust.
"Mummy doesn't. Father does."
"Mr Bourgeois?!"
Marinette's exclamation was louder than expected causing Kon to wince at the volume change.
"Not Daddy!! Father."
The bitter tone was clear to see and Kon marvelled as the girl in his arms softened at Chloe's poorly hidden feelings. Despite Chloe brashness towards her Marinette seemed to still care about her. It reminded Kon of Tim and his ever bleeding heart with his family. His 'wrap them up in bubble wrap' senses started to tingle as the girls eyed each other with caution.
"Oh. OOooh, I'm sorry Chlo."
"Whatever! Stop playing cutesy with Conner. I don't know if either of you are up to standards for each other. And his puppy eyes are just infuriating."
Chloe looked up and huffed.
"Sabrina's here. Take the clothes and sort yourselves out."
Reluctantly, Kon let the shivering Marinette out of his arms to go collect clothes and change. He looked up to find a pensive expression on Chloe's face as she scrutinised him.
"You like her?"
"Maybe. I don't really know her, but I'd like to."
"Hmmm." Chloe eyed him critically for what felt eternity, "Dupain-Cheng has been through a lot of grief over the years. We may be blood, but I will hurt you if you hurt her. She is a… chosen distant relative that you want to hide. I will protect her from you Luthor."
Kon searched deeply at Chloe's expression before his lips twitched on a fond amusement. She may act as cold as Lex, and detached as Audrey and as callus as Marinette's fingers, but that's what it was. An act. The blustering earlier, she was sussing him out, playing the spoilt rich brat card. Behaving as Luthor would expect from her. Standing, Kon wrapped Chloe up in a hug and cackled as she screeched about her hair and tried to escape his damp grasp.
"I'll be careful Chloe, promise."
Looking over to his friends, Kon smirked as he watched them chatter amongst themselves judging him. Letting go of his sister, Kon grabbed the outfit Sabrina offered him with a swagger sort of grace and walked off.
"You best do, Kent-Luthor! I've got my eye on you!"
Laughter escaped Kon's lips as he went to change. This meeting hadn't been too bad. He had a girl to go get to know. He even sort of, maybe, connected slightly with his sister.

Countdown to 2023 WRITERS' EDITION
This is a non-exhaustive list, as always! Thanks to @choicesfandomappreciation for the event!
Honestly without this loving community, I doubt anything would've been possible at all. I've met so many people here, got to know of so many different perspectives and it actually made me understand there's depths to our madness XD! But in all seriousness, it's just wonderful how many of us there are. I'm so glad we made it to 2023!
(Edit: I accidentally hit "Post" once, before finishing this up, so if you've accidentally received some sort of error on your page, it is probably me and Tumblr fighting a war.)
Onto the list!!
Tumblr media
Writers whose works I've read this year:
@aallotarenunelma
Aallotar, thank you for being here. Serious. I'd never get tired of our Formula-1 conversations, getting excited over Aspec representation and gushing on and on about the things we enjoy! Thank you for being there, my friend and belated happy birthday wishes! Had it not been for you, I'd have probably never gotten the courage to talk about *anything*, really. Thank you so much for your positive support, your enthusiasm and so much more!
You're a fantastic writer and your ability to draw inspiration from small little details that send those butterflies, goosebumps, the "vibes" as they say, absolutely marvels me.
@peonierose
Peonie, we've been buddies for so long I am surprised to see it has only been around 6-8 months! We've talked on and on about everything and it feels like we're practically siblings/family at this point XD. I miss the days (prior to uni) where I'd open up my dash and see your wonderful little messages and it would literally make my day. Thank you for being such a social butterfly, such a ray of sunshine in this fandom and supporting it through its hard times.
Your writing never fails to make me happy. It's warm, fuzzy, gives you so much comfort. It's about characters being happy, fighting for change, overcoming problems, being utterly domestic and ugh, the food! I can never get tired of your Pictagram edits! Thank you for being here and being such a caring friend.
@ofmischiefandmedicine
Lin, my wonderful pal! It's been ages since we talked and I can only imagine how stressful uni life is for you. Nevertheless, I sincerely hope you're taking breaks. I remember when I first came across Laura and I was just amazed. Just downright amazed because of how much thought and effort you went to, to create her a stunning background information, talking about her Ukrainian heritage and culture.
I've always admired your ability to research and bring to light about different traditions. I've learned a lot about Ukrainian culture, about literature and the arts, about medicine and so much more. Thank you for being a fantastic writer! Your writings are so illustrative, so depictive of the characters!
Writers whose works I must catch up on, by 2023:
@jerzwriter
Elsa, you're absolutely remarkable! I love your writing - how raw and emotional and painful it can be, but at the same time, it is a reflection of reality. Nobody is perfect, not even our best characters. Your fics are always refreshing, like a nice cold drink after a hard day. I really hope to catch up with your works soon, because I wouldn't miss it for the world.
Kaycee and Casey are wonderful people! I can't imagine writing 2k words/fic let alone creating TWO SEPERATE UNIVERSES with lots and lots of minute details to remember! I'm just so much in awe! You've done a fantastic job and you continue to do so and it is just a series of 😱😲🤯 for me!
@liaromancewriter
Lia, your writing reminds me of a lot of those old contemporary novels - so full of life and it tackles characterisation but through simple and neat ways. Often times Cassie's personality traits are explored through little wholesome domestic ways and that's what I love so much, because it's subtle. It's so neat!
I've also admired your ability to write two pairings; Maxenna and Cassie/Ethan (Casthan? Valensey? Ram-tine?) As someone who's managing two right now, it's basically an uphill climb and it is just so encouraging to see it is possible, it is totally worth all of it and you'd never get tired of either of them.
@mydemonsdrivealimo
MJ, I'm a huge, huge fan of your art. Jensen doubly so! I love your little headcanons that you post every so often and it is incredibly motivating for every one of us. Serious! It actually inspired me to write down my headcanons and it then, subsequently sparked a lot of fic ideas! It made me think about my characters in general and their motivations, thoughts and hobbies. I hope you know that you've probably set Choices' flash-fiction era in motion lmao!
Jensen is *the* coolest person I've ever read about (Bryce can dream all he wants, HA!) and they're so adorable. I hope to explore your writing style this new year! Thank you for being awesome and being an even awesome artist because GODDAMN, your art style is a force to be reckoned with.
Writers whose works I shall read/get acquainted with:
@trappedinfanfiction
I remember first coming across Fast Break and going, "Damn, that is the coolest concept ever. A basketball AU?" and decided to add it to my never-ending list. But I really really hope to read more of Trappedinfanfiction's works! I've loved getting to know Celia and I can only imagine how awesome she'd be, out there in the world!
@storyofmychoices / @lovealexhunt
Dani's works have always managed to pull me in, because they are just so comforting, so domestic and just so utterly FLUFFY!! Alex, Ellie, Laura, Daenarya, Astraea - I'm just so mind-blown, because of how simple and complex the lore is, the little backstories to each fic, how intricate the characters are and not to mention, the ART!! THE ART!! (Especially the famed Love and Scotch series. Plus, this is probably the first time I've seen a writer write for MoTY! Such an underrated, beautiful book!)
@peonyblossom
Peony's works have just been absolute MAGIC. Not to mention the wonderful 🏳️‍🌈 rainbow rep! Between Pictagram edits, Sadie's Self-Care Saturday and Peony's @choicespride project, I only hope to read more. I love Sydney, Sadie Valentine and Jackie Hunt and I remember coming across a magazine edit, I think, of Jackie and her experiences exploring their gender identity and I was so in awe of how beautiful it is; how we treat our characters as people too.
Thank you for inspiring me (and countless others, who've also inspired!) to explore Aspec- characters in my fics without constraining myself to some uptight standards and unspoken "rules". It's been so wonderful and freeing!
Even more mentions but I got really lazy for some reason (and also it is 12:16 right now and I'm very delirious okay bye)
Because I might have to expand this into a Part 2, I'm just going to tag some wonderful people here and then bring them up in the Part-2, which is definitely in the drafts.. I hope.( I mean, unless Uni thwarts my plans, that is, but you know what, we'll deal with it. It's THE NEW FREAKING YEAR AND IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE A FEVER DREAM!)
@takemyopenheart : When I first came across your edits, I was literally on the balls of my feet, going "Aaah it is Luci and Ella!" at your fcs XD, but I'm just so happy! I hope to get to know Luz (and that's the baddest name ever for a doctor) and Ethan!
@gryffindordaughterofathena : Dri, it's been so SO LONG. How are you doing? How's everything? It's been literal decades lmao but I just *love* Diana so much. She reminds me of that cool, nice aunt at reunions who'd give you those fun fancy chocolates. I hope to catch up with your works and hope to catch up with you as well! And hooray for South-Asian rep! As a South Asian myself, it brings me so much joy to have our traditions and clothing attire represented in little, evocative poetic ways.
@openheartforeverinmyheart : Lizzie, you are absolutely incredible. I love the whole noir aesthetic to your works, your edits and I really really want to catch up with Adelina and Ethan's stories. Honestly Adelina gives off major "next-door neighbour who's ten times smarter than you are and also really nice but at the same time, can kill people with her stare" and I'm living for all of it! Thank you for introducing us to your wonderful world and I hope 2023 brings new adventures for both you and your MC!
@genevievemd: Sarah! I love your wholesome approach to your fics and edits and your EDITS ARE AMAZING! I love your approach as you chronicle Ethan and Gen's important moments through texts and pictures and calls and it is such a genius move. Not to mention super adorable! I love that and I hope in 2023, I get to read your works and explore your version of canon!
@lilyoffandoms : Lily, argh, it is so so hard to find Blades writers these days and I'm so glad you're one of them! You're always explorative with your writing; always up for something new, like say, switching genres, themes and so on and I've always wanted to be a versatile writer. Plus, I've always wanted to appreciate how beautiful and simplistic your drabbles are. They're short, sweet and just utterly beautiful and remind me of a little book of short stories. I hope to explore your writing style even further in these coming months! Thanks for creating!
@headoverheelsforramsey : Sruti, it's been so long since I caught up with your works. It brings me so much joy to see a lot more South Asian rep in the Choices fandom. As a South Asian myself, it feels so good, so validating to have MCs and LIs celebrate Diwali together, enjoy Asian cuisine and appreciate their cultural backgrounds. It's wonderful and I hope you know that you're doing a fantastic job! Between that and your cheeky writing style, it is so heartwarming to read your works.
There are so many more people to thank, so many more people to send love and support after, but it would be overkill to condense all of it in a single post. I really hope I'd get to write an even longer appreciative post because this fandom has been there; this community has been there for me when I was going through some of the worst things I've ever gone through. And I hope you know that you deserve to be celebrated, appreciated and above all, loved and cherished.
So thank you for everything.
Cheers,
Mads.

oooh I would love to read your spin on JoCassie! so if you wanna write a drabble abou them, that would be so amazing <3
JOCASSIE!!! Okay, I wasn't sure exactly where to go with this prompt at first until I realized what Jo and Cassie would both care about so deeply: work and love. So this is a small moment between Jo and Cassie, many many years in the future, after they've made a life together built around their shared passion.
Read on AO3 or under the cut.
"Cassie, you almost done?" Jo pokes her head into Cassie's office.
"Yeah, almost, almost," Cassie says. She's sitting at her desk, crouching over several stacks of paper with hundreds of streams of numbers across them. "Five more minutes."
"Your five minutes will turn into an hour," Jo laughs.
"Fine," Cassie sighs and pushes the piles away from her. Her back pops as she straightens up. "Oof, I'm getting too old for this."
"Pouring through some scumbag politician's financial records is a young man's game," Jo smiles at her and moves to rub Cassie's back. Cassie groans and leans into it, her shoulders relaxing as Jo's strong hands quickly work some of the tension out of her back.
"We need to hit the farmers market quick, I need to leave for Tupelo by 3."
"Tupelo, what's in Tupelo?"
"A rugaru," Jo says.
"A rugaru in tupelo?"
"No, but that would be really funny, wouldn't it?"
Cassie sighs, pretending to be too tired to laugh at Jo's silly joke.
"Just a newbie hunter out there," Jo continues, bringing her elbow up to put more pressure on the center of Cassie's back. "Garth wanted me to check in with them. It should be an easy salt and burn but he says it's taking them a bit too long to figure out what's keeping the spirit here."
"Do you think he'll ever retire and get his nose out of everybody else's business?" Cassie says, unable to keep the fondness out of her voice.
"Garth? Never," Jo says. "You know he's probably saying the same thing about us."
"Hey, I'm a reporter," Cassie says. "All self respecting reporters work until they drop dead at their desks."
"Yeah, and all hunters drink themselves to death by 40 but I don't drink so I guess I need a new plan," Jo says.
"But that plan won't be retirement."
"Absolutely not."
Cassie sighs again and rolls her shoulders.
"You're going to have to promise me you won't get so wrapped up in your work while I'm gone that you let all the produce we're about to buy go bad in the fridge," Jo says as she moves her fingers to deftly work the tight points in Cassie's neck.
"Oh so you can abandon all the food here while you go running of on a hunt but if I forget it then I'm the irresponsible one?"
"Yup," Jo says happily.
"Why don't we just skip the farmers market this week?"
"Because if we buy the food, you have to make the food," Jo says, a smile in her voice. "If we don't buy the food then you'll just order takeout the whole time and I'll come home to a wife who won't let either of us sleep because of her terrible indigestion."
"I won't get—" Cassie starts to say but she cuts herself off. Jo knows her too well.
Eventually, Jo's hands drop from her neck, giving her one final comforting squeeze before falling away. Cassie stands up and turns to look at the other woman. She stares at Jo, her partner of two and a half decades now, her sight tracing the laugh lines around Jo's eyes and the shining locks of gray hair framing face.
"Ready to get to work?" Jo asks her.
"Always," Cassie says.

Hi, Aim! 😊 I'm not sure if you've seen the finale of She-Hulk yet, but I'd love to ask about your thoughts and feelings about it if you have, because, man, do I have mixed feelings about it and I'd love to hear what you have to say about it.
Ooh... wow. Marvel literally admitted that they have no idea how to write women's stories, didn't they. Like, "we SO don't know how to write women's stories that we're going to do a weird meta thing about not knowing how to write women's stories and hope that you think it's charming." Like, "we're going to get out of having to write an actual finale because we always flub those AND we're going to get out of writing a woman's story" in one fell swoop. Whoo. Wow. That was a choice.
Also the meta level of the MCU existing within a universe where the characters are real casts like, Hydra, in a REALLY weird space. And like, Steve. Like, are we supposed to go back and rewatch all of the MCU movies through a lens of them being reality shows that the characters know they're being filmed for but have no control over their actions within?? Is Tony dying in Endgame the equivalent of an in-universe snuff film?? Did a film crew sit there and watch Bucky get tortured and young Natasha and Yelena get human trafficked and do nothing?? THIS IS A WEIRD MOVE, MARVEL. IT'S A WEIRD MOVE THAT WAS NOT THOUGHT OUT.
(Also isn't the blood LITERALLY supersoldier serum, Jen? Like that's what Bruce was trying to make when he Hulked?? It's all supersoldier serum. Green Goblin, Hulk, Abomination, it's all supersoldier serum. It's the literal lifeblood of the Marvel Universe. That's why supersoldier serum stories keep showing up??)
I liked Jen/Matt at the cookout at the end. Marvel does like ending their shows with cookouts, apparently.
And I DO like that they didn't go a "the stealing the blood was the real villainy" route and did go the "the act of trespass into her life was the real villainy" thing instead because it's true, but the way they played it is just going to make the real Intelligencias/Reddits/Chans of the world even more pissed off about women and women's stories (and about the direction of Phase 4/5/6).
I liked Nikki and Pug being such good and genuine friends to Jen, because we don't get to see very many Marvel characters have friends. Pretty much just Scott, and his Wombats aren't going to be in Ant-Man 3 and I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT :(
Kevin Feige self-inserting as an omnipotent, all-powerful brain was... a lot. May I direct you to my most recent guest spot on @idontgettechnology's podcast "I Ship It," which was titled "We Have To Talk About Kevin"? Because I think it's time we talked about Kevin. The man thinks he's FRIDAY.
Also I hope we DO see Jen on the big screen because I love Tatiana Maslany and I have so little interest in a Planet Hulk storyline that doesn't involve Gladiators!Steve/Bucky that it's hard for me to put it into words. Like, Bruce is... fine. But I have no attachment to Bruce. He's the Avenger I always forget about. And no Hulkling for Billy??? What is the POINT?
UNLESS it's a hint that they're doing a BATTLEWORLD storyline, hence Jane being alive in Valhalla and we're going to get a BATTLEWORLD: Thors series, which might be fun because more Natalie Portman and also a noir crime story vibe, but also, I'm very tired.
Just mush Jen in with Scott, Cassie, Hope, Shang-Chi, Katy, and Eddie Brock and do a West Coast Avengers thing. Give them A Villain that they need to stop, and then have them stop That Villain. Matt can come, too. But the nested plotlines within plotlines that never end up coming to fruition are too much. There's too much stuff! Too many things!!!
I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHEN STEVE IS COMING BACK FROM THE MOON AND I WANT WANDA TO BE ALIVE, I'M A SIMPLE WOMAN! I want simple things from my Marvel consumption! I want my blorbos and plotlines that make sense! And I want Steve and Bucky to kiss on the mouth!
Also, but Tatiana's legs tho

Stryking Emotions Ch. 5
"Jin did what?!"
Kat almost dropped her communicator in shock from Cassie's update in Outworld.
"Yup," Cassie confirmed over the communicator. "Jin ended up fighting Kotal Kahn all over a bread thief."
"I mean," Kat paused so she could pass a bowl of soup to a mother and child. "I kinda agree with Jin; execution is a little extreme for food theft. But he's lucky he won; otherwise, we'd probably have a whole other trouble on our hands."
"Speaking of trouble, I should probably report to mom before she finds out I called you first."
"Alright, be safe, Cassie. Stryker out."
"Cage out."
She hung up and put her communicator back in her pocket, and let out a sigh. From Cassie's explanation, they'd probably not be back for some time.
"Everything alright?"
Kat looked up. Standing beside her table was a refugee woman with black hair and a tired smile. Kat returned the smile as she grabbed an empty bowl.
"Just talking to my sister, I offered to stay here and help while she went out."
"Oh," the woman said, accepting the soup. "Do you usually work with your sister?"
"Actually, I just recently found out she's my sister," Kat admitted with a laugh. "It's a long story, but we're basically playing catch up now."
"Oh, how sweet," the woman said with a smile as she turned to leave. Kat smiled back as she turned her focus to the line of people that began to form. She was halfway through the line when she noticed Sonya approaching her.
"Stryker, can you come with me?"
"Of course," Kat said, letting a soldier that was following behind Sonya take over as she followed Sonya to a tent. Inside was Johnny and Kenshi standing at a table where a body bag was laid out. Sonya led Kat over to the bag and pulled the zipper down. Kat's eyes widened when she saw the body.
It was the woman Kat had talked to less than half an hour ago.
"You've been passing out food for most of the day. Do you recognize this woman?" Sonya asked, looking at Kat with an unreadable expression. Kat knew that look; some of the officers in homicide would take on that look when interrogating suspects to keep their emotions in check.
"I do; I talked to her not too long before you came to me," Kat explained, frowning when she saw Kenshi and Johnny share a look. Sonya's expression hardened, and Kat noticed her fingernails were digging into her crossed arms.
"What did you talk about?" Her tone made Kat bristle. She sounded like a mother scolding a child.
"What does it matter?"
"Stryker, this is serious. I-"
"No," Kat cut her off. "What's serious is a dead woman right here; what does it matter what we talked about while she was alive?"
Before Sonya could reply, Johnny cut in.
"I told you, you need to tell her."
"Tell me what?" Kat looked between Sonya and Johnny. Sonya was glaring at Johnny as Kenshi let out a sigh.
"We need to know because if what you said is true, you were speaking to an imposter. This woman has been dead for a few hours, according to the medic."
Kat's eyes widened at Kenshi's explanation. How could someone impersonate this woman? Was this the person Sonya was talking about earlier?
"Just tell her about Kano, Sonya!"
"She doesn't need to know!"
Kat's attention returned to Johnny and Sonya, who were in the middle of an argument. Sonya looked furious as she yelled about keeping Kat out of it at Johnny. Immediately Kat moved between them and glared at Sonya.
"That's enough; just because I found out you're my mom doesn't mean you can treat me like I'm the child you never raised. Right now, I'm an officer that deserves to know who killed this woman."
Sonya was silent, staring at Kat with a frown. For a moment, the tent was quiet as mother and daughter stared each other down. Finally, Sonya's voice broke the silence.
"Kenshi, take Cage and prepare some sign-in tables. Keep an eye out for this woman."
Kat could see Johnny wanted to speak up but followed Kenshi out of the tent. Sonya turned her head to watch them go. As soon as the tent flap fluttered shut, Sonya sighed, looking back at Kat. The stern General facade she kept up had gone, leaving a visibly exhausted Sonya in her wake.
"You're right; I should apologize. Suddenly having you here threw me off. You deserve to know."
She gestured for Kat to follow her over to a nearby computer, where she sat down and opened a file containing her file on Kano.
"His name is Kano; he's a member of a group called the Black Dragon. He's extremely dangerous and is skilled at evading arrest. I've been tracking him for years."
Kat frowned as she stared at the candid photo of Kano. She could tell just by the smirk on his face this man was dangerous. Sonya took this moment to take a good look at Kat. She could see so much of Kurtis in her features, and yet, seeing Kat with a braid similar to her own, it's evident that Kat was her daughter, which means if Kano had talked to Kat, he would have already figured that out by now.
With Kat leaning closer to read the file, Sonya noticed a square item dangling from a chain around her next. Reaching out, she gently held the swinging object steady as she looked at the familiar numbers on the badge.
"Is this Kurtis' badge?"
Kat looked down at Sonya as she ran her thumb over the numbers. She noticed Sonya smiling softly as if remembering a fond memory.
"It's not his original; grandma said the other officers told her they couldn't find his body. They gave her a replica of his badge to honor him. I found it in the attic a few years before I moved out and have kept it on me since."
"You know, Kurtis called me once saying he used his badge number to try his hand at the lottery. He told me he won fifty dollars and took you to the toy store and was upset you wanted-"
"A Johnny Cage action figure," Kat finished, smiling at the memory as Sonya chuckled. "He hated those movies so much, but I begged him to watch them with me."
"Would you believe he blamed me for your love of those movies?" Sonya said with a smile. "He insisted that as soon as you watched Ninja Mime once, you were hooked, and you had to have gotten it from me."
"Well, you did marry Johnny, so he might be right," Kat laughed, surprised it was so easy to talk about her dad with Sonya when she usually felt upset when mentioning him.
Sonya sighed, letting the badge go and standing up. She hesitated as she raised a hand, reaching out to touch Kat. When Kat showed no resistance, she brushed a stray hair behind Kat's ear before placing her hand on Kat's cheek.
"When we leave this tent, I'll make sure to treat you like an officer before a daughter. I also promise from now on; there won't be any secrets between us. If you need to ask me anything as your mom before we leave, you can ask now."
She had so much to ask; why did she leave? Why did she never look for Kat? Did she regret having her? All these thoughts were racing through her mind, but she only had one question in the front of her mind.
"Did you love dad?"
Instead of immediately answering or reassuring her instantly, Sonya paused as if trying to find the right words to say.
"I did, and even after being with Johnny, a part of me still does. It might sound cheesy, but your father was my first love." Sonya let go of Kat's cheek and gently took her hand. "I need you to know, when I had you, it was one of the happiest moments of my life. It killed me to be separated from you. But it's because of my goal of taking down Kano I had to stay away from you both to keep you safe. If Kano found out about you and used you to get to me, it would haunt me for the rest of my life."
Sonya's explanation made sense; that was why she wanted to know what Kat said to the imposter woman. It still stung that she missed so many years getting to know Sonya, but her safety was more important.
"I understand," Kat said, wiping away tears that threatened to fall. "Thank you for telling me." The warm feeling in Kat's chest made her smile. She hadn't felt this happy since her dad was alive. She wished Cassie was here so she could talk to her.
At that moment, Kenshi stepped in.
"We have everything set up, General."
Sonya's General persona returned as she nodded at Kenshi, telling him to wait outside for her. Before she dropped it to speak to Kat.
"Take your time before coming out. When you're ready, meet us at the tables we have set up; I could use your help catching Kano."
Kat nodded, watching as Sonya began to walk to the tent entrance. She wanted to call out to her, say what she's been wanting to call her since she found out. But the word remained caught in her throat as she watched Sonya step out of the tent.
----------------------------------------------
Sonya's eyes traveled across the lines of people like a hawk. Kat and Kenshi stood at her side, keeping watch as well. Once in a while, her eyes would drift to Kat as she thought about their conversation earlier. While she said she would treat Kat like an officer, she didn't know if she could keep that up when confronting Kano.
Do not worry; Katherine can take care of herself
Kenshi's voice in her head did nothing to reassure her. Until Kano was found, she couldn't rest easy, knowing both Kat and Cassie were at risk.
"General." She heard Kat whisper as she pointed to one of the lines. Near the middle of the line, trying to hide between two taller people was a woman who looked exactly like the murdered woman.
"Gotcha," Sonya said with a smirk, gesturing for Kat and Kenshi to fan out. Kenshi went left, Kat right, while Sonya made a beeline to the woman. As soon as she noticed Sonya coming, she attempted to escape by pushing through another line but was stopped by Kenshi. When she looked back, Kat had stepped up to block the way around. With a smirk, the image of the woman dropped, and in her place stood Kano, smirking at Sonya.
"Hello love, been a while."
"Not long enough," she replied, calling for backup at her location. As she spoke into her radio, Kano's attention turned to Kat.
"Well, well, now that I can get a better look at you, you're the spitting image of your mother. Have you been hiding this one from me?"
"Lay even a finger on her, and you'll regret it," Sonya growled as Kano laughed.
"Hello, love," Kano said to Kat with a sickly sweet grin. "You can call me Uncle Kano."
"No thanks," replied Kat. At her side, Blitz gave a warning growl. "If I had an uncle, he probably wouldn't be a murderous scumbag like you."
"Well then, how about we have a trade, mom," Kano said, turning back to Sonya. "Information for freedom."
"Like Katherine said, I don't negotiate with scumbags." Sonya stepped forward to restrain Kano but paused when she saw him reaching for his knife.
"Well then, if mother won't play nice…," he said as he pointed his knife at Kat. Sonya felt her heart stop, memories of losing her partner at Kano's hands rushing through her mind.
"Maybe the daughters will."
"If you ever-" Sonya growled, stepping forward while Kano continued to smirk.
"Back off, and all is well. Piss me off, and it'll be Cassie's turn to meet Uncle Kano."
"I swear to god I'm gonna kill you," she said, dropping all pretense of a composed General. Right now, she was not only a furious mother but an avenging friend.  Before Kano could say another word, she moved in close, delivering a solid punch right into his nose. He grunted in pain, wiping the blood off his upper lip with a grin.
"Well, looks like mother does want to play after all."
Sonya ducked and dodged as he slashed at her with his knife. She could faintly hear Kat shout her name and Kenshi shouting for Kat to stay back. After an attempt to drive the knife into her stomach, Sonya grabbed his arm, yanking him forward and bringing her knee up to slam into his lower jaw. As he fell back, slamming his head against the concrete, she brought her boot down onto his chest, faintly hearing a crack as a rib broke. Kano lay unmoving on the ground; the only indication he was still alive was the rise and fall of his chest.
Sonya's body urged her to continue, to crush all his ribs under her boot and let him drown in his own blood. She held back the urge. Looking around for the backup she requested. When she realized they hadn't arrived yet, she turned her attention to Kat.
"Katherine, cuff him and wait here with Kenshi; I'll be back with the MP."
Kat nodded, and Sonya waited until the handcuffs were securely around Kano's wrists before she turned to leave. She had taken about three steps away when she heard Kenshi shout.
"Kathrine! Get away from him!"
Sonya quickly turned around. Just in time to see Kano sit up as a red beam pierced through Kat's chest.

Hiii this is a story of mine of some old characters that sadly their story changed bc of some problems
Edwin reaches for Cassie's face as he caresses her cheek and with a heavy breath starts moving her head for any injury as Cassie pushed his hands away and looked at him as she looked at him: I'm fine! I'm not injured, either way Vampires heal
Edwin with an aggravated look grabbed her face again making Cassie shocked as he looked at all her body and with a pain in his voice said: you're reckless as always you could've gotten yourself killed! Look at you covered in scars!
Cassie was confused but she gently pushed him away: Look here werewolf
Edwin: it's Edwin
Cassie: Whatever, we've known each other for years. Do you really believe that I'd be dead? Look, I know you're a simple know it all but I'm tired, okay?! I don't need your lectures, so if now you'll excuse me, I must get home
Edwin pinned her against the wall, his right hand holding her hips and his left hand against the wall near her face and with a stern voice told her: "You're not leaving anywhere, Kyle."
Cassie wasn't surprised he had these little tantrums now and then as she rolled her eyes and looked at him: "Look here, West, you don't tell me what to do, let me leave I'm not in the mood to play games I-"
Before Cassie could speak, Edwin rested his head on her shoulder, which it made her ticklish. He sighed and groaned: "Please, just stop talking. You don't know how worried you made me. " he lifted up his head, and Cassie was shocked and stuttered
"What are you doing, West?! You bucko! Imma kill y-
Edwin cupped Cassie's face and started getting close
Cassie started feeling uneasy as she looked to the side: "Edwin, what are you-
Edwin started stroking her cheek. He then reached towards Cassie's lips as he gulped and looked at Cassie (he's 182 cm and she's 154 cm) and smirked: "Push me away if you don't like it"
Cassie was dumbfounded by his response. What did he mean? But she got her answer
Edwin moved his left hand towards her cheek and his right skin to her waist and pressed his lips against her
Cassie's eyes started to widen since she didn't expect this kiss, but it felt so good, so she didn't push him as her hand slowly moved to his chest
Edwin was moved by his worry and desire. He didn't care that this could ruin their friendship he grabbed the back of her head with his left hand, deepening the kiss while his right hand started to pull her waist against his body
Cassie started to get back to reality. This was her long best friend? Well kinda, they mostly fought every second. on earth, they were mortal enemies, but since they arrived in this world, they were like acquaintances? She couldn't even describe their relationship. They really hated each other guts, but this proved something else.
Cassie thought to herself, maybe he was sick, drugged, poisoned as she tried to pull herself from the kiss, even tho her body wasn't reacting that way
Edwin noticed that she was trying to free herself from himself, and he grabbed her whole face and kept kissing her it was more than a sweet kiss he started growling Cassie wrapped her arms around his neck and started kissing him back she was also hungering for him but she once snapped back in reality and pushed Edwin as she was huffing for breath
Edwin huffed also, his face was also flushed, it wasn't like him, after all he was a gentleman, a bad boy in mischief but he always respected the ladies, he wasn't a play boy, Cassie was confused
Edwin smirked as he lift up her chin and licked his lips as with a taunting voice said "Guess I'm not a bad kisser"
Cassie's face was color red and speechless
Edwin leaned in for another kiss but Cassie stopped him
Cassie looked away, embarrassed, she looked she would cry. "This isn't us. You know it well, we're supposed to hate each other, be at each other's throats, not making out"
Edwin looked at her with a serious face as he hold her face with his right hand: "What if i don't want that?"
The library was in silence, there was nobody but them, outside it was raining
Cassie face started streaming tears, Edwin was in shocked as he began to stutter "I- I'm sorry i didn't mean to force you to kiss me...I-I"
Cassie looked embarrassed at the ground: "it's not that silly" she looked up at him, she caressed his lips and finally looked right straight at him "I didn't dislike it"
Edwin grabbed her hands off his chest gently "I'm sorry, you must've been confused"
Cassie turned his head towards her gently "Tell me, why did you kiss me? To mess with me?, why not Alina?!"
Edwin was mad at her response. How could she be so clueless! "BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, YOU IDIOT!" He grabbed her shoulders gently."In this world, I want to be with you! I don't care about the other realities! I'm tired of trying to look for the same partner. When they don't even exist anymore!" He sighed because he knew that in Cassie's heart, there was another man. It was useless trying to convince himself. Yet he confessed, "I felt for you for the moment I laided my eyes upon you, i tried to convince myself i wasn't in love, you were so caught up on how we looked on other worlds and who we ended up, i know we fight! And i hate you!" He holds her head."But you started driving me crazy, I just couldn't. your tenacity, your stubbornness,I just couldn't ignore it, I fell even harder when you nursed me, and that time in the cave lagoon, I just... being near you made go wild! With thoughts I shouldn't have! You know it's not like me to be like this! But I wondered how your skin felt, how would you look in white? Would we have kids? And it started creeping me out from the inside because you're insufferable!"
Cassie's was shocked, Edwin stayed silent, watching her face shocked, sighed. He just ruined it, everything went down, and she would never talk to him he left go of her shoulders and was ready to walk away
Cassie grabbed his hand as tears kept streaming down her cheek, Edwin leaned towards her and started licking her tears away, he came back to reality, his wolf inside him made him go crazy as he was feeling guilty "Cassie I'm- what are you doing? Cassie started placing his hand on her chest where her heart was
Edwin's face was red as he tried to take his hand of her chest
Cassie looked at him "Do you feel my heart?" Her heart was beating like crazy, looked how the tables turned as she put her hand on his chest and smiled a bit "Apparently I'm not the only one that's gonna break the heart monitor"
Edwin was silent and speechless, Cassie placed her right hand on his cheek while he felt home with her closing his eyes
Edwin "Kill me if you must"
Cassie chuckled a bit, but her voice cracked, and she kept stroking his cheek. "How could I do that to the man I love?"
Edwin eyes opened in shock. He wasn't expecting her to have the same feelings he discarded the possibilities of her accepting his feelings as a 3% and began to stutter. "I...I..."
Cassie chuckled. Was this the man who just pinned her against the wall and shared a fiery kiss ? She was planning on teasing him but not without confessing her feelings back. "I know I've been obsessed with finding my other half, but then I realized even after I hated you, you on earth we fought a lot, whether it was being on first place or having better grades and we had rivalry, I hated seeing you in this world surrounded by princesses! Royals, goddesses, fairies, any species! And I hated just the feeling of you being with someone else. Is it greedy of me that I want you all by myself?
She started caressing his lips and looked at him. "That I just want to feel you? And I want to be the only one who sees this -" Her left hand started moving from his abdomen slowly moving towards his chest
Edwin was uneasy and caught up in the mood, yet he was waiting for what she would do. He loved this, that he had control over, and she had the control over him
Cassie pulled his lower lip a bit down as she started pushing him slowly against the arms of the sofa and raised up a bit, considering his height being on her tip toes and "this side of you" she pressed her lips against his as she was pressed against his body with one hand holding his head and the other one against his fine chest"
Edwin corresponded back to that kiss as he held her waist tightly to him. There was no going back. He hungered for her as she was hungry for him, yet it wasn't a deep kiss. It was a kiss they both longered for, it was a pure kiss.
Cassie stopped kissing him only to see Edwin's face bewitched, and she chuckled. "Who would have guessed this is how you tame a beast?"
Edwin chuckled back as he started playing with her hair. "Don't push your luck, Kyle," as he rolled one of her strains of hair and smelled it and placed a soft kiss on it "I know other ways to drive you crazy as well"
Cassie smiled shyly, Edwin was crazy over her and kissed her forehead and smiled as she gazed at the ground. He proceeded to lift her chin from the ground. "So what now, Kyle, does this beautiful vampire accept to mine?" He stuttered in his words."I mean...do you wanna be my mate? Wait, no, that's wrong. You're not a werewolf, and I wouldn't sleep with you unless we're married. " He started turning red as Cassie couldn't stop laughing he was cool yet right now he was losing it
Edwin smiled because he knew she understood him he grabbed her hands and looked at her. "Would you like to become my girlfriend? Of course, we'd date to get married...you know like on earth." He placed a kiss on her hands."Would you grant me that wish, princess?"
Cassie smiled. "I'd love that, my sweet prince"
Edwin smiled brightly as he lifted up in the air and hugged her tightly, twirling her in the air as he moved a strand of hair of her face and smiled. "I love you Cassie, I meant it"
Cassie grabbed his face, "and I love you too, Edwin."
Edwin sat with her on the sofa as they watched the fire in the fireplace, and they locked hands together
Cassie placed her head on his shoulder as Edwin covered her with a blanket "You know in earth how Bella chose Edward?" She smiles "I always thought that if I was in her place I'd choose Jacob"
Edwin chuckled. "Oh sweetie." and kissed her forehead as he cuddled her "I think this is a perfect beginning".

Dear future self... January 29, 2024
Another 2 weeks have passed? I was feeling pretty down the start of two weeks ago I think and didn't end up writing and now lots has happened. 2 weekends ago I went to Amber's saturday to help paint & stayed for dinner. I was there for like 8 or 9 hours & man, I tell you, this girl is my other half. We chatted about the book we just finished, The Light We Carry & the really good bits about friendship etc. There's a part about finding your barnacles as friends, the ones that stick by your side through anything & can't get rid of basically & it was just so reassuring again to hear that I'm that person to her. We had really great conversation about relationships & how in the past we've put so much pressure on our partner to fulfill all aspects but realize how important it is to have outside friends that you can go to & fulfill that, we laughed as we both said we're each others person. I love that girl to bits man. Sunday I went for Lunch with Calvin which was really nice, always great conversation with him. Then went bowling with Shane later which was fun. We enjoy doing that & always have a lot of laughs. Monday I had off which was nice, got my car checked out and then visited Shane at work. I was supposed to help Kamber move but it was cold out. I did a bunch of baking instead, made my lemon loaf for Chrystal and made carrot cake cookie sandwiches which turned out so good. Tuesday was Amber's for game night, I had invited Shane since Troy hadn't responded to me, he ended up texting me at like 5pm saying he was stressed with work & would be working late. I wasn't really going to respond. Games night was fun per usual, played Catan. Chilled Wed & Thursday. Friday went to Olea for Shruti & Sasha's birthdays with Cassie. It was really great, it was so nice to catch up with them all & we always have a lot of laughs so it was a great get together. I think then is when I responded to troy just saying I hope he had a good week. Saturday I went for drinks with Austin, which was nice, he was super cute but I figured there'd be something with him. Then went to Ambers to watch the oilers game, which we were supposed to all go out together but Kamber & Shane canceled & bars were full so we stayed in, made some appies together & watched the Oilers & sharks game which was great. Sunday went to Brunch with Calvin again and then relaxed for the day. Wednesday went to Steven's to hang with him & Amanda which was great to finally catch up, played Spectre which was super good & I want to get this game now. Friday went to Ambers for another dinner & Catan night with Shane, then we played Overcooked which was so much fun. I haven't laughed that consecutively for a while which is usually when I'm with Amber anyways, it was such a fun night & we stayed till like 2am. Saturday I went over to Calvins for food & to hang out. Turned out going a bit sideways than I expected. He was hoping to make a move on me but I stood my boundaries which he respected but I kind of fingered now after that, that he would probably stop talking to me after realizing that I wasn't going to let him in my pants. It was kind of sad and frustrating but whatever. I'm not interested in friendship if they're just wanting that. I was super tired that night so I relaxed & gamed Horizon for a bit.

This morning I got up earlier than I usually do on Sundays and went to meet with Cassie and Katelyn at 10:00 so we could work on some more choreography for our Halloween class. There were classes going on in the room we usually use, so we went into the smaller one upstairs. We practiced the ones we did the other day, and then we started working on some new stuff. We choreographed a dance to the Halloween theme song together and used one part that was my idea. Then we decided to use She Wolf by Shakira for the warmup and Ghost by Justin Bieber for the cooldown, so we threw some stuff together for those and used some of my ideas for She Wolf. Then Cassie had to leave around 12:30, but Katelyn and I stayed until 1 and started working on Monster Mash. We got about half of it done, and I did most of it. I feel good about the amount that I've contributed so far, and I have some ideas for another song we haven't started yet. I also want to do Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift, but when I brought it up a couple weeks ago, they both said they didn't like that song. I want to do it though because it sounds spooky. Maybe if I just go ahead and choreograph it on my own, I can just teach it to them like Cassie did for Disturbia, ET, and Superstition. As an introvert and a soft-spoken person, it can be challenging to be assertive and stand up for myself so I have to make sure my voice is heard.
We're going to meet on Thursday like we did the last two weeks, so I'll probably get up early and work from 7-4 again. I don't mind doing that once in a while, but I'm always tired at the end of those days. We aren't even getting paid for all these extra rehearsals we've been having. We're just voluntarily donating our time because we love to dance and we want to do something fun for the members.

Ch 1
I lay there in my bed listening to the crickets gentle song. It's a normal summer night, quite and uneventful in the outskirts of Kansas city. We'll it's almost a normal night, by most standards anyways. The dishes are done, laundry put away, cats are fed, everything is right and we're it should be, except for this voice in my head.
"So what shall it be tonight poetry or a good story?" The voice reverberates through my skull. A gentle baritone masculine voice. Not my inner voice at all.
"And when are you planning on letting me sleep tonight?" I reply back in my mind, my own voice. The one I have control of.
"Come to think of it I think I'm going to keep my promise and ignore you until you tell me your name." I add a moment of silence later. My body snuggling further into the covers, making a point only I will register. Hopefully.
"And as I told you I'm merely a figment of your lonely minds imagination. Made up for your need of a friend after that horrible day at work weeks ago." He replied sardonically.
As if a bad day at work could make me go this crazy. This was one theory of mine, that I had literally gone crazy. The first night the voice came to me I was so surprised and scared I grabbed my bedside old bat and did five rounds throughout my house to look for intruders. The voice taunted me a little throughout my terrifying experience. He also reassured me I was safe but the sarcastic taunting is what stuck with me. I now have a security system, and a plan to see a psychiatrist if this doesn't end soon.
"OK figment of my imagination. I am Hella good at making poetry apparently. Maybe that'll be my next job." I smile to myself. "But I think my brain is tired of it maybe a story."
The voice grumbles in my head, the sound reverbating from one ear to the next. "Fine. I asked you what you prefer and I'll give you a story. This one is about a girl who tries to threaten a not so giving man."
My eyes go from one bunny on my sheet to the next, counting the surrounding flowers. "Ow I'm shaking. This man wouldn't happen to only be a voice would he?" I challenge back.
"Close your eyes now and listen. I think you'll like this one." His voice goes gentle in my mind.
"I just hope she wins in the end. She has to be daring." I snuggle now fully for comfort into my bed, readying for a sleep full night as he begins his story.
"Your horrible at being quite and listening by the way." His voice breaks out in the middle of his boring story.
"Maybe if you added some adventure I wouldn't feel the need to interject." I reply.
The next day I wake blerry eyes and groggy from another night of listening to the voice. I might have only listened to about thirty minutes of the story before I passed out but that's besides the point. I still woke tired from several nights of less sleep then planned.
"I should just go to sleep earlier I swear." I mumble to myself, pulling back the sheets and slipping on my slippers.
"Do you want some pancakes cassie?" I hear my husband call out from the kitchen.
"Sure" I call back in a less than enthusiastic voice as I begin to make my way downstairs to our kitchen.
I emerge to the smell of grease and sweet bread in my favorite robe and bed tossed hair.
"Did you sleep well today?" My husband's considerate voice asks. He's been concerned for me these last few weeks as my sleep schedule has prevented me from sharing a bed, and instead opting for the spare bedroom.
"Like a lamb." I lie as I sit at a bar stool at the island overlooking the stove top. "I'm more concerned about those pancakes then my sleep." My husband Aaron wourles around hurriedly and peers down at the now slightly burning chocolate pancakes.
"Crap!" He exclaims as he begins flipping again. I smile at him as I stretch out my stiff joints.
"I'm going to get ready for work while you continue flipping." He hmmms back at me in response.
I'm a nurse working at the Mayfield nursing home. My second home really it feels like. For someone who has always felt a stranger to there family many of the residents there began to feel like one. At least a little bit.
Ready to go to work I deseand the flight of stairs to my breakfast and awaiting husand. Hes already flying about grabbing for his keys and wallet in his black work shirt and pants. Stove off and door open to let out the smell of cooking.
"I have to run or I'll be late." He greats as he kisses my cheek. "A plates on the kitchen table for you." I hug him goodbye and finish my own work ritual.
