I was walking around and noticed a shop I never recognised. I think it was called CHAVTF. Should I go in?
CHAVTF? I can highly recommend it. Great selection of cool gear and competent and very courteous service. Tyler has a good eye for what suits your type. You can really trust him without reservation.
When you enter CHAVTF, it's very busy. All cabins are occupied. And the fellow you suspect is Tyler is obviously very busy. Nevertheless, he asks you how he can help you. You tell him that you were advised to ask for Tyler, that you need advice. "Mate, I'm Tyler. But call me Ty. What's your name, friend?" You reply that your name is Darren. "Daz, that's nice! you're not uh minute early. Can you grab da size xl camouflage tracksuit from storage for da fellow in locker room 4?" You answer "Sure thing" and go into storage. Fuck, how do you know where the warehouse is. But the tracksuits are cool. You'll have to try that one on later, too. You go to locker room 4 and hand the tracksuit through the curtain. Tyler asks you to check out the customers at the cash register. He will mark up the prices of the new stuff for a while.
The store is really running like clockwork today. There must be five or six scallies in line at the register. Sucks when you can't take care of the fellows the way you want to. You would have liked to help one or two of them change. Ty comes over, gives you a fistbump and says you're a lifesaver. Thank you for supporting him. He didn't expect so many customers. But then he says with a grin that you should better not serve here in your silly preppy clothes. You laugh and ask him what he expects when he calls you up from coffee at your parents' house and brings you into the store. Ty asks when your dad started placing value on that sort of thing. The last time you were there for dinner, he was still wearing that sweaty tank top from boxing practice. "Mate, that wasn't Sunday. Sometimes my mother gets her way, too," you reply with a grin. Ty tells you that there's a tracksuit in the social room that a customer has returned. You can put it on. Size S, should fit. Your fat pads are melting. When you put on the tracksuit, you weigh just 110 pounds at 6 feet. Skin, muscles and bones.
The next few hours are a bone-crushing job. The city is full of tourists and since there has just been money from the welfare office, all the chavs are also liquid. No idea how many steps you have walked between the warehouse, the cash register and the changing rooms. But by closing time, you've just managed three or four cigarette breaks. Ty and you take a deep breath as you lock the door at 6:00 pm. While Ty closes the register, you clean up a bit. Fuck, the place looks like a battlefield. And tomorrow you have the early shift. Then it would be cool if you could start with neat shelves and clean dressing rooms.
Ty asks you if you still want to come to the pub for a beer. You decline with thanks. You still have to train a class at your father's boxing school. Next time. Ty gives you your salary and hugs you. "See you tomorrow!" "You bet."

Anyways, I will be honest I have some mixt feeling rn :00
About the clock keepers themselves?? I don't have that much fear tbh, they are supernaturals in their boundary, and contrary to number 3 they don't have hearts that Tsukasa or anyone else can consume. I think they will be fine (or I am being delusionnal to protect myself, you choose rip) I love them very much they will always live in my heart.
I was REALLY not happy with chapter 109, having to be focused on little crumbs was really hard when I have been waiting for their focus for more than 4 years. Having the joke that is chapter 109 absolutely destroyed me, they are my fav mysteries and I want something good for them, unfortunately I am not sure they will get it.
Chapter 110 gave me some hope because yes what is happening is not normal, and I am glad it was adressed. For me it was obvious af it' wasn't, but I really needed confirmation from the author to be sure.
I have always said that the clock keepers were unique and Teru confirms it in this chapter with the official translation:
'The clock keepers are clearly unique even among the school mysteries, and go beyond the average supernaturals'

They are n°1, the only mystery with three beings in it and with a human, one of the last two mysteries left with the other one being the main focus on the manga. Of course something is strange with how they are treated right now. What is happening?
None of them used their time powers expect for Mirai once as the judgment. The stuff they are saying to punish Tsukasa seems more like jokes and they aren't treating the trial as they should be (but this may be just because chapter 109 is bad af lol). Mirai can litteraly see the future if she wants to.

The owls, their shikigami/familiars don't move at all when their masters are attacked, they are in their own boundary, their shrine. Maybe their powers are related to the clock Natsuhiko destroyed (and I would be sad af if this is the reason and nothing can be done) we just don't know what is happening. Do they have a plan? Are they playing a part (which would be funny because some stuff about the clock keepers are related to theaters and plays) Did someone forced them to do something? We don't know anything about the clock keeper, them being in the same spot as n°6 before we got to his story.
We just know they are special among the mysteries, they are the oldest ones, Kako and Mirai are made of gears and a human has a seat in it.
I am pretty sure Teru had this conversation with Akane here because he knows the clock keepers are special.

The two mysteries being the more visible here being the god of death and the clock keepers.
It's also the only mystery Hanako didn't want to destroy right away because they could be useful. All mysteries had their yorishiro destroyed/were planned to be destroyed once they got students in danger. (expect for Tsuchigomori who just, accepted it as a precaution rip) The clock keepers are the only ones who got a free pass on this even after getting the whole school involved.

Their powers are just above a lot of the others, and everyone know how useful it can be, so once again why aren't they using it?
Not caring about their yorishiro is also super strange. Especially when the one the most against Hanako's plan to destroy the yorishiros in the manga is Kako.

A mystery has to choose a yorishiro to be a proxy of the gods, to be able to have this status.
They have to choose a yorishiro so they don't run away from the job, it's the thing the most important to them so they would never destroy it. They have to protect it. Teru assuming they don't care is just so so strange. Why wouldn't they? That's the whole point of what a yorishiro is! They even hide it in one of them as an extra precaution! A lot of things go against what has been established before for yorishiros it's just plain out suspicious.

Kako and Akane are also really really duty centered characters. Akane will do a job even if he doesn't want to if he is asked to do it and Kako is the one being represented as the observator over the mysteries to see if they are respecting their sworn duty.

I also don't know what to think about their yorishiro for now. What does it open? A door to another room? Is it to protect something? Is it to activate another automaton? Can it be related somehow to the old clock keeper of the present? (delulu land again)
Idk I am really curious. I really hope we won't have the answer right away though, they were defeeated way too quickly and I hope they have more stuff to them. We got Hakubo's and Sumire's story and a part of the Yugi twins beforec their yorishiro got destroyed, so I hope it will be the same for them. That we will have time to get to know them a little bit more.
And after all, neither Nene or Hanako want to destroy any more yorishiro for now, and Tsukasa apparently lost it at the end of the chapter (we can see the hand who had it being empty. But AidaIro has sometimes a problem of coherence with their right and left and objects disappearing and appearing which I can understand with the rythm they have to keep with the manga, so I am not sure)

I have a lot of fears about this tbh, because maybe AidaIro will just give us the reason why they are weak rn and continue the story without explaining anything about them, not giving them the spotlight I think they truly deserve. The worst for me would be they work for Sakura, I really really hope it's not this, but I am really scared :///
So I will go for this for now, even if this is really depressing for me, but I don't want to have my hopes up with how the writing have been really ups and downs since the start of this arc (the only good chapter for me being chapter 108).
I am still really intrigued by what is Akane's real duty and why is he so reluctant to do it but still does it? Why Akane said they had to do the trials now? Honestly I have a lot of questions and I know no matter what happens, the clock keepers make me super sad (in a good way) and happy at the same time. And this last chapter with Mirai and Akane was a blast (I am actually writing a whole document on them rn it's long I will link it later ahah)
I also wonder if any of the clock keepers can use the others' clocks or not? Does this mean like Kako can go full OP while using all three powers at the same time? (let's go grandpa give us everything) I am curious since they are a mystery where having an object is important for their powers (Kako and Mirai being able to use their with bare hands because they have their clocks on them, I can be wrong about it though)
We are also left with only Akane as n°1 rn and idk what it will mean for him.
So yes full of fears, but also I know I will find crumbs to go delulu on :DD I would try to stay full positive but with the focus being on Tsukasa and on how secondary characters rn are mostly as 'objects for the plot' (I mean, look at Nene :')) I can't really ://
But be sure, I will forever love the clock keepers even if the plots are not respecting them

Naoki Urasawa's Monster in real life
So, I spent my holidays in Czechia and realized it would be a good opportunity to try and find the real life references and inspirations for one of my favourite anime series - Monster (haven't gotten my hands on the manga yET). After a bit of research I found that @fuckyeahjohanliebert has already done this almost a decade ago and their account has been extremely helpful. I also used the websites that I've linked at the very end of the post and you should definitely check them out as I didn't get the chance to visit every single location. It is honestly incredible how much work this person has put into their research. With that being said, here is what these places look like as of January 2023, alongside some tips I wanted to share in case you decide to visit them during your stay in Prague!
Let's start with the easiest location: Charles Bridge. It is probably the most visited place in Prague and so it can be quite crowded, especially around NYE.

Next, we have a shot of a tram in front of what today is the Palladium, a large shopping mall. Location: Nám. Republiky 1078/1, 110 00 Petrská čtvrť, Czechia

Okay, this one was a bit tricky because I wasn't able to find the exact reference for the Tri Zaba (Three Toads) sign. Most sources pointed me towards Hotel U Tri Pstrosu (Three Ostriches) which is right besides the Charles Bridge. However, a reddit user posted a picture from U Tri Capu hotel (Three Herons), and someone mentioned it being a possible inspiration in the replies. Therefore, I took pictures of both and upon looking at them closely I honestly cannot be certain about which of the two served as the main inspiration, maybe it was a mixture of both? Looking purely at the shape of the sign the Three Herons (Far Right) seems to be the closest. The positioning of the three ostriches on the other hand (Middle) is more similar to the way the toads are positioned. If you have any sources I've missed pls link them!

I also found this detailing you can spot if you are walking by the Vltava River. A thing to note: I could find this specific fencing only of the side of the river that is next to the Ministerstvo průmyslu a obchodu, If your cross the bridge the design is completely different. Now onto the Red Rose Mansion. Fans figured out that the Břevnovský klášter (Brevnov Monastery) served as the main inspiration for the Red Rose Mansion. Unfortunately, the monk that is responsible for the visits was sick during my stay in Prague, and would not be coming back until after I left. You can see the exact room that was referenced for the murder scene in the websites I've linked below. I was a bit sad that I wasn't able to see it with my own eyes but I hope he has a speedy recovery. After all, this gives me a reason to visit this wonderful city again! Tip: Don't be an oblivious zoomer like me and bring cash with you to leave a small donation at the Bazilika svaté Markéty Antiochijské (Basilica of St. Margaret of Antioch). You can get a postcard with the picture of the monastery for about 10 koruna and I'm sure it helps with the maintenance of this beautiful place. Also, there is a small, cozy cafe on the territory and they have really tasty Medovnik cake!

The Rose Garden at the Mansion actually has no roses! It is actually a Cherry Garden, and can be visited at the Orangerie right behind the Monastery (tip: as far as I know it is only open on weekends and closes at 8pm). During this time of year it is obviously not blossoming however it was nice to visit nonetheless and walking in between the tall shrubs made me feel like I was Nina :p

As a bonus I wanted to add this picture of a hanging Sigmund Freud that absolutely startled me on my first day in Prague. Many fans have speculated that the character of Franz Bonaparta was inspired by him, given their similar looks and involvement with Psychology

Nell'acquisto della villa da parte della premier Meloni l'impiccio sta nelle clausole del compromesso. Il prezzo e' di 1.100.000, 00 euro pero' il venditore deve provvedere alla ristrutturazione, messa in opera di pannelli solari, di caldaie a biomassa e della costruzione ex novo di una piscina. Costo preventivato per questo capitolato, 4000mila euro. Ma uno si chiede, a noi comuni mortali e' mai capitato di acquistare la nostra casa con certe clausole? Perche' non acquistare la villa a 700mila euro e poi spenderne di tasca propria 400mila per farla bella e confortevole come piace? yea sex is cool, but did you know that between may 24th and july 31st of 2017, japanese players that have reached act 3 of fire emblem echoes could go to a 7-eleven and connect to a hotspot on their 3ds, which would spawn an npc you could talk to in 1 of 2 different game locations (zofia castle on alm's route, zofia port on celica's). this npc would give you one of several items once per day until the event's end. the first 2 items you get guaranteed are the seven sword and eleven shield, which have boosted effects between turns 7 and 11. the sword at max forges has 7 might and 110 hit, and the shield gives 4 defense and 3 resistance. the sword's blade is also shaped like a 7, and the shield has a clock pattern with the hands pointing to 11:00. after receiving the sword and shield, you could continue to talk to the npc, who would give you a random food item based on 7-eleven's menu.

minimum delay for matches is like a half hour, so she's a bit confused but still happy when she's still texting you at 5:00
but then your responses get shorter and shorter and then you send her this text that makes her so worried
sorry, I'm watching the girl I'm meant to be playing against and abs she's really fuckin good"
she totally gets the feeling, and tries to think of what helps her when she's hella stressed, then she remembers that before a few games, her dad just got her to ramble about strategy and football jargon that even he didn't get but it calmed her down
she just texted back: "call me x"
you're a bit confused, but you do as she tells you, and she instantly tries to get you talking about why you think that other girl is better than you
she has little to no clue what you're talking about when you're talking about her (this is 110% off of a personal experience)

You almost whine, but then you just decide to explain it to her
"It's basically when the ball has a fuckton more topspin and takes a lil jump, and you have to back up more to hit it back which usually means open stance and more of a volley than a loaded shot which sets the other person up for a winner, but i guess you could work around it if you-"
girl is clueless but is happy because she can hear you talking a little slower and slowly relaxing and she can heAR the gears working in your head when you work out a strategy to beat her
a bit bummed when you say your match is finally starting, but wishes you luck
expects you to win, checks her phone every 10 minutes (girly has no idea how long these lasts, google betrayed her by saying 1-4hrs)
after the 2hr mark, she gives up, puts her phone on full ringer and watches TV
is so excited for you when you call back and are squealing that you won the game, is genuinely so proud of you that her cheeks hurt from smiling

mostly the same behaviour
a lot more PDA if you're comfy with it (hand holding, comforting etc)
but not excessive that it makes you seem like a wimpy loser to everyone around you
just talks to you, taking your mind off of it, a lot of compliments on your outfit (whether you prefer the shorts, skirt or leggings) this girl is making sure you feel like fuckin Beyonce on the court

it doesn't matter if you crush the person within an hour or if you're playing 3 sets for as many hours
this girl is whIPPED
doesn't really know what the scores mean but she can tell when you're up
if her seat is close enough, she's watching your facial expressions, from the grin when you get a winner, to the concentration before a serve. eVERYTHING she notices it
if you lose, she's there with you, hugging you and waiting for your next match or driving you to a drive-in restaurant so you can eat in the car
if you win, she's your biggest hype-man, lifting you in the air and getting so excited with you that it's fuckin contagious
either way, football!abby is your biggest hypeman and i want her as my personal cheerleader

Some have been resistant, but the ministry has been insistent, especially as the war drew to a close. At the time, we were unaware of any future where production of the Clones would be scaled back so significantly. Without livable tissue from the Fett Prime Donor, we have been forced to push the bounds of our abilities to clone further. At this time, we have been forced to repair genetic gaps with our older units. Ideally, Alpha-01, known as “Boba Fett,” would be the next best choice. However, he remains in custody with the Republic, and we are unable to secure access to the subject. Obviously, Alpha-00, known as “Omega,” candidacy as a donor subject remains inviable due to unit’s extreme distance from the agreed upon genetic template for our base model Fett Clone. Alpha-class Clones still remain our next best choice. Reviews of successful A-units narrowed one of our prime candidates down to unit A-77. Created by Ulni Drayris (Scientist #1033), developed the A-77-X iterative Template in pursuit of similar traits as I pursued for the Alpha-00 template.

Project A-00-X was further used in the development of other projects. (Review Project A-00-75-XX, -13, -89-03) Similarly, Project A-77-X has been the progenitive temple used with several other projects and units, some of whom have been successful operatives in the field. (Review Units #01-1010, #27-5555)
NOTE: Unit #27-5555 has been terminated for classified reasons. Though, I protest the unit’s reclassification as a failure, as the subject showed impressive intellectual skills and remained true to the Clone’s operative base.
Additionally, our stock of Alpha-class units have been nearly depleted, same as our field-deployed Advanced Recon Commando. With fewer and fewer units derivative units made from the codes used for our Alpha-units, we have seen critical drops in suitable candidates for our ARC Cadet Corps. The commandant of our Clone Cadet Corps, Unit A-17, has informed me and the ministry that is tactically ill-advised; I have decided to put my weight behind his protests to the Ministry’s complacence on this matter. With this all these concerns in mind and my new liberty as the lead scientist of the AMP Department, I have opened up Project A-00-100-X.
FOLLOW-UP #1:
As of this log, Ulni Drayris has worked with me on Project A-00-100-X. Our first twenty units are gestating at this time, and the genetic code sequences look very promising.
Note: I have extended Unit A-00’s lab duties, and she has been my assistant on this project. This is an excellent opportunity to prove the intellectual viability of the Alpha subjects. To further her education, I have also assigned her duties in the matter of human reproduction and infancy. Her drive for self-education continues to please me, and I will encourage her curiosity. Hopefully, this will prove to the Ministry further application of human Clones—I find them to be quite fascinating and curious.
FOLLOW-UP #2.1:
Project Unit A-00-100-14 appears to be the most promising product of the project. Project Unit A-00-100-10 unfortunately does not appear to be as promising; it is exhibiting the same signs our early Alpha-class and Production units exhibited. Omega has informed me that humans call this a “failure to thrive.” Most unfortunate.
Personal Note: I confess… distressing to witness so close at hand. The sounds are truly… disturbing.
FOLLOW-UP #2.2.1:
Curiously, Commandant Alpha-17 has elected to take custody of Project Unit A-00-100-10. The infant subject is responding to the additional human care and exposure. I have convinced the ministry to allow this to expand our observation
Personal Note: It is quite pleasant to observe Omega express the innate drive to pass knowledge onto others as she instructs Alpha-17 in the means of care for a human infant. Though Seventeen would have never been considered for one of our nursery Clones to care for the infants, his signature determination has been redirected towards this endeavor. Fascinating.
FOLLOW-UP #2.2.2:
Project Unit A-00-100-14 has been redesignated to Alpha-114; it is currently in quarantine in my personal laboratory. Much to the surprise of many, Project Unit A-00-100-10 has managed to survived to its third month. Though, based on the behavioral history of Units #01-1010, this should not have been a surprise to anyone, including myself. Now that the infant has survived to this critical stage and even though we have elected to delay the infant’s immune system replacement due to concerns over survival probabilities, it has been given the designation Alpha-110.
FOLLOW-UP #2.2.2:
Alpha-17 has decided to unofficially name Alpha-110 “Kit,” which is a reference to what Alpha-17 believes are traits shared between Alpha-110 and Unit #01-1010’s temperament. A “kit” is the name for an infant fox-vulpes.
Personal Note: I do concur with Seventeen that Kit is tenacious, even if still remarkably small.

Okay so. Putting on the biology nerd glasses for a second today because something about this 001 vs 011 shot has been rattling since I saw it.

I know there’s the whole “oh, it’s 001 vs 011 and they’re inverted because the 110 is the narrative inverse of 001” thing...and that's Great!!
However…I have to ask why they chose 3 numbers, and why they chose 011 specifically.
That is to say, 2 digits (01, 11) would take us all the way through 99 test subjects. So why the fuck do we need a third digit? Why 001 and 011, instead of 00 and 11?
And it hit me today: It’s a goddamn codon.

They're mRNA codon and tRNA anticodon, which stems from an original sense/antisense pair of DNA.
Ex. 001 -> AAT 110 -> TTA
Ignoring nuance, codons only really matter in the context of mRNA/protein synthesis. Specifically, they matter most in the context of mRNA-tRNA pairing for amino acid chain assembly.
mRNA is matched with an inverse anticodon in order to create the proper associated amino acid chain/correct protein.

That is to say, the 3-base sequence on the mRNA codon is identical to the corresponding sense strand codon, and the 3-base sequence on the tRNA anticodon is identical to the corresponding antisense strand codon.
Now it could just be a nifty nod to genetics/genetic testing...or there could be a pattern. (You all know I love patterns)

All of these lines are giving "matching set", which is all very well and fine, except--if Edward/Vecna is 001 and El is 011, and that's the only way the pair can match...
Then how does Henry fit in?
A possible answer lies in the theory that Henry may not be tattooed with 001. He may be 000. Patient zero. Ground zero. Zero.

Due to biochemistry and base kinetics that I don't want to go in-depth explaining here: the third base doesn't have to be matching. It's only the first two.
This means that, theoretically speaking, these different combinations:
5'--001 // 00* // 001 // 00*--3' 3'--110 // 110 // 111 // 111 --5'
should all pair just fine.
El matches with both Henry and Edward.
It's just that she matches with one of them more strongly than the other. If 001 is Edward, and El matches more strongly with him due to the lack of wobble...this supports the "Edward is El's father" hypothesis.
But why 011, then? Why not the other numbers? First, the wobble position is only the third position. 012 as an anticodon, for example, would be read as 210, in which the first base is wrong. It could only be 011, no other anti-codons would pair.
For that reason, none of the other children were a proper fit...and they were recycled by the cell accordingly.
Science is neat, but I'm afraid it's not very forgiving.

On the topic of bits, I have heard that certain game uses different bit counts for maintaining different data of the game. How often decide which bit count (16/32/64 bits) goes to each data counter, and why don’t 64 bit games just use 64 bits for everything?

Some readers may not realize it, but you're actually asking a math question here. A bit is a value that can be one of 2^1 = two different values - 0, or 1. Thus two bits can represent up to 2^2 = four different values - 00, 01, 10, and 11. Three bits can represent up to 2^3 = eight different values - 000, 001, 010, 011, 100, 101, 110, 111. 10 bits can represent up to 1,024 different values, 16 bits can represent up to 65,536 different values, 32 bits can represent up to 4,294,967,296 different values, and 64 bits can represent up to 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 different values.

As you can see, 64 bits has a much larger range of potential than, say, 8 bits. However, just because it can store a lot of different values doesn't mean that you want to use 64 bit values everywhere. Imagine that I'm working on a game that has committed to four playable races - dark elf, hot elf, keebler elf, and santa elf. If I used a 64 bit value to store the player character's race, I'd wasting a large amount of that usable space - I really only need two bits to represent the four different possible races on a character so I would essentially wasting 62 bits of memory to store that one value. However, locking myself in to two bits for the player character race means that I'm also committing to never adding a fifth supported race (e.g. hers elf) for the lifespan of the game, because I would need additional bits to represent the fifth race. If I were forward-thinking, I might split the difference and give myself four bits (16 total races, room for up to 12 additional races) for the lifespan of the game.

Your question topic is known in programmer space as "bit packing" because the most efficient solution is to use the fewest number of bits possible to store the data. This way we don't waste computing resources that could be utilized elsewhere. A lot of clever engineering is about utilizing facts we know about the game's design (like the number of supported player races) and using that to shave down the needed bits to represent the data. This usually results in immediately improved performance and problems down the line if the game continues for years and the old assumptions get broken (which is often what happened when many old live service games needed to convert from [32 to 64 bits]).
