I originally made this Late Victorian gown as a Good Omens cosplay based off a beautiful piece of fanart by the lovely @lycorislily . The plan was to do a cosplay shoot with the totally awesome @burandon_san while I was home for the holidays in Hawaii (which we also managed to do today and am SO EXCITED to share soon😜) but a friend of my family reached out and asked if I wanted to shoot an authentic tintype using an actual 1880’s lense and I could not pass up the opportunity! The shoot was 2 and a half hours, we shot 5 photos and only 2 managed to turn but they were totally worth it! It was amazing to see the development process behind this type of photography 📷

Evening Dress | c. 1897 ・・・ The Victorians often found sartorial inspiration from the Renaissance era. The kelly green velvet bodice of this elaborate gown was undoubtedly inspired by the late 16th century doublet from the tailoring down to the horizontally placed trimming and sequined quatrefoil embellishments. 1890s Fashion. 

We will be starting our tour through the evolution of fashion in the 1890s. In the 1890s women wore long dresses and covered 90% of their bodies. They also tended to wear large hats. It was important for women to be covered for modesty purposes. If we think of fashion today modesty is not as strictly practiced as it once was.  Men wore dress slacks, dress shoes, a button down shirt and a vest. When we think of this kind of clothing now we think of very formal occasions. Todays men and women wear very similar clothing styles unlike in the 1890s.  This also has a lot to do with the culture of the time. Back then things were still really protestant and by the bible, because of this the dress was a lot more modest than now.
