*24K Magic, *the album, sticks to the same well-trod path. It often comes off as a one-man recreation of Mark Ronson’s similarly retro-fetishist *Uptown Special**—*Ronson himself was tapped early on as a potential collaborator—with one key difference: all roles here are filled by Mars.

24K Magic (stylized as XXIVk Magic) is the third studio album by American singer and songwriter Bruno Mars. It was released worldwide on November 18, 2016, by Atlantic Records. The follow-up to Mars's successful second album, Unorthodox Jukebox (2012), it explores genres similar to those of its predecessor, such as soul and funk, while Mars and his team focused on capturing the R&B sound that was very popular in the 1990s, described by the singer as the reason he fell in love with music in the first place.(1) Recording sessions for the album took place between Fall 2015 and September 2016 at Glenwood Place Studios in Burbank, California.(2) The production of the album was handled by newly formed production trio Shampoo Press & Curl, consisting of Mars, Brody Brown and Philip Lawrence.(3)

He also unveiled the album's official artwork and a link to the album's pre-order on iTunes.(42) On the same date, the album was made available for pre-order worldwide via Mars' official site, offering four different options to purchase.(43) 'That's What I Like' was released as the second single on January 30, 2017.(44) 'Versace on the Floor' was released as the album's third single in the United States on June 13, 2017.(45) Meanwhile a remixed version of the song by French DJ David Guetta was released as the album's third international single on June 27, 2017.(46) It had previously been premiered as the album's first and only promotional single on November 4, 2016.(47)(48) 'Chunky' was first released in Australia as the album's fourth single, on November 27, 2017.(49)(50) A remixed version of 'Finesse' featuring American rapper Cardi B was released as the album's fifth overall single on January 4, 2018.

Aside from a couple guest production jobs by former collaborators Jeff Bhasker and Emile Haynie, the album is largely produced by Shampoo Press & Curl—a mildly reorganized incarnation of the Smeezingtons. And as Mars boasted in pre-album press, there are no features.

The video was directed by multi-talented visionary Karltin Bankz, known for his production work with for the likes of Yo Gotti, Nicki Minaj, T.I., Moneybagg Yo, and many more. The 2017 edition of the annual music award ceremony, a television staple, Soul Train Awards was held this past Sunday (November 26) at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

Boasting several industry amazing stars in attendance, electrifying live performances and enthralling displays by awardee, the BET presented award which kicked in way back in 1987, handed more honors to the industry’s top talents in R&B, hip-hop and gospel music within the months in consideration.

Top winners for the night is none other than Peter Gene Hernandez, known professionally as Bruno Mars, who carted home five prominent awards for the night, including awards for “Song of the Year”, “Video of the Year”, “Best Dance Performance”, “Album/Mixtape of the Year” and “Best R&B/Soul Male Artist”.

Other notable winners for the Erykhah Badu hosted ceremony includes SZA who won double – “Best New Artist” and “Best R&B/Soul Female Artist” – as well as Lacrae, SWV, Cardi B who took home one trophy each.

Even though she obtained the highest nominees prior to the ceremony – gaining 7-nominations – Beyonce’s sister, Solange Knowles only returned home with a single award – for “The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award”.

2017 BET Soul Train Awards

2017 BET Soul Train Awards took place Sunday night and top acts within Soul/R&B and a little bit of Hip-Hop would get nods for their strides within the genres within the past year. Among those on the list of nominees were SZA, Chris Brown, Cardi B, DJ Khaled, and much more.
