Timeless fashion and even more timeless warmth, break out your plaid on Plaidurday for a fashionable, cozy day in one of the world’s most popular patterns.
If you are a huge fan of plaid shirts and jackets, then get ready to celebrate Plaidurday, a holiday dedicated to the creation and fashion statement of plaid. Plaid has had a significant impact on history and today, it is used as a cultural identity as well as a way to keep you warm and comfortable on those rainy days. Want to know what Plaidurday is all about? Read more to learn about the history of Plaidurday and what you can do to celebrate it.
History of Plaidurday
Plaid itself has a long history in the making. It is believed to have originally been made during the Celtic areas during the 8th and 6th century BC, and since then, mummies that have been discovered by archaeologists have discovered the use of plaid in places such as Austria, China, and Scandinavia. By the late 16th century, there were numerous references to plaid in paintings and in cultural fashion. From there, plaid exceeded in popularity and has become a stable fashion item in countries all over the world. The 1800’s had a particular fashion craze for plaid as it resembled a connection to Scottish royalty, which is why Scotland is highly associated with plaid as a concept. As a matter of fact, one random fact about the use of plaid includes that the first color photo ever to be taken was of a plaid ribbon back in 1861.
Plaidurday began when It all began in Lansing, Michigan when Bugsy Sailor was heckled by his coworkers and made fun of him for wearing plaid. This consistent hackling led to a Bugsy creating a holiday based off of wearing plaid. He created this holiday back in August of 2010 as a way to bring people together in their love of plaid. The first celebration took place on October 7, 2011, and since then the first Friday of October became the date to celebrate plaid. In the end, plaid is just another way to connect people together.
How to celebrate Plaidurday
If you are interested in celebrating this holiday, start by buying a few plaid shirts at your local thrift shop or department store. Join your friends and talk about how much you love plaid. Describe your favorite colors for plaid and take a selfie of you wearing your favorite plaid shirts. Share this holiday on your favorite social media websites and use the hashtag #plaidurday to celebrate it!

@hockeylovinglibrarian pointed out the above tweet. (Thanks!) Then I saw this reply below it: .

Seriously?! Dude (because it was a dude who asked). The players helped because they're good guys. Because they know *team* isn't just about the guys on the ice, that the entire Pens organization is on their team and they're all working toward the same goal. (It's the same reason players aren't the only ones who get Cup rings when they win a Cup.)
But, also? In this case, the team didn't fly in the night before and give the equipment crew 24 hours or more to do its job. They flew in just hours before puck drop. Which is not unusual for a preseason game. But the equipment crew still has to set up the same stuff ahead of the game, whether given 24 hours or two. And if the players want their stalls set up in time for them to be ready at puck drop, they kind of *need* to lend a hand.
And when you consider that these are all incredibly fit men who probably could lift one of those wheeled boxes and carry it if the wheels weren't there, them having the common decency to *help* their equipment-based teammates isn't asking too much of them.
Instead of knocking the entire organization for asking a grown man to spend 5 minutes helping with someone else's work, try appreciating the players who don't *have* to help but do so *willingly*.
Geez.

Lee National Denim Day
Lee National Denim Day is a one-day fund-raising event, that’s annually observed on the first Friday in October. This event was started in 1996 to contribute and support breast cancer research and wellness program.
Lee National Denim Day started when several Lee Jeans employees realized, that they were affected by breast cancer in one form or another. During the conversation they came with an idea to start some kind of event, that could raise money to help all women suffering from breast cancer. Thus the event was shaped.
The idea of Lee National Denim Day is rather simple: employees are encouraged to wear jeans at work in exchange for a $5 dollar contribution to the fight against breast cancer. This is rather simple, but convincing enough people to do it, the goal is achieved.
The respond to the first event was astonishing! The original goal was to raise $1 million, but the event brought $1.4 million. The campaign was revoked again in 1997 and now it’s annually observed on the first Friday in October. All money raised from the event are donated to the American Cancer Society.
