You sat down on your empty kitchen counter , the pain in your arm showing up again, reminding you that you couldn’t move it. A sigh fell from your lips as you heard knocking on your door, walking towards it and looking through to see May. The frown you had suddenly turned into a soft smile while you unlocked the door.
“Y/N!”
“May!” You said back with the same energy, giving her a side hug to prevent putting harmful pressure on your injury.
“How’s your arm holding up?” She asks, pushing past you with 2 grocery bags on her left arm and 1 on her right.
“Woah woah woah…What do you have in those bags?” you say, May gave you was mocking-confusion.
“Remember, you had broken your arm right in front of me, so I’m deciding to help you get better in the process- and don’t say you don’t need help…” she looks around to see the small messes splatter around your apartment, “cause you do..”
“Okay okay,” you laugh, “Maybe I do need some help.” You grab one of the bags with your uninjured arm, glancing inside.
“How is popcorn and my favorite candy gonna help my arm heal?” You say raising an eyebrow.
“By watching your favorite movie! I can’t have you sad AND in pain. I’ll be staying here for a while.” May announces, her head tilting upwards to show her proudness, you just can’t help but giggle.
“But…I don’t want you being here just cause I’m hurt-“
“I’m here because I want to be here Y/N.” She looks at you with a heartwarming smile.
“Thank you…really. You’re already making me feel better.” The both of you laugh before she says something again.
“Of course! Now let’s get you settled in for some movie time.” May heads to the living room, setting down the bags and beginning to search for your favorite movie. You follow after her, feeling a sense of comfort as you settle in on the couch with a cozy blanket.
As the movie starts, you feel your worries fade away and your pain start to dull. May sits down right beside you, snacking on popcorn and laughing at the movie’s jokes. You can’t help but smile, happy that she’s here with you.
After the movie ends, May helps you clean up and settle into bed to sleep. As you close your eyes, you feel a sense of peace wash over you, knowing that you have someone who cares about you and will be there for you when you need it most.

“You know that I can’t pick him up today,” You sigh into your phone’s receiver with an exasperated expression, pinching the bridge of your nose with your free hand. “You have my work schedule, you knew that I’m working ‘til seven,”
It was always like this, even before the divorce. Aaron just seemed to have an inherent talent of getting on your nerves and uprooting your schedules.
“Look,” You sigh heavily, dragging your palm down your face. “Either you pick up Matthew like we’ve arranged for the past five years, or you don’t see him at all.”
You can hear Aaron’s tone shift instantly through the phone speaker and he becomes enraged at your comment.
His eyes narrow and he snarls into the phone. “You have no right to keep him away from me. Just because you decided to leave me doesn’t mean that I’m not still his father!”
“Then be his father! Pick him up from school like you’re supposed to and look after him until my shift is over. You know how this works.” You’re pacing up and down the break area by now, thankful that you were the only one on the upper floor.
“Well I can’t just pick Matthew up from school today. Things have come up.” Aaron hisses into the phone.
“What has come up Aaron? something more important than your own child?”
“I have a date, okay?” Aaron answers angrily. “I’m meeting with some girl for coffee. Can’t I have a life too? You’re the one who decided to divorce me, remember?”
“You’re a father, Matthew is more important than a date with a girl that might not even go anywhere,” You’re becoming increasingly frustrated at his attitude, and it’s very quickly reminding you of why you divorced him in the first place.
“I know I’m a father but I’m trying to move on with my life! I can’t be expected to just drop everything every time I'm needed. I have my own life and wants too!” His tone carries a noticeable edge as he replies to you, and you can practically picture the look on his face.
“He’s a five year old Aaron. It’s not like he can get home by himself.”
“Then get a maid or babysitter or something, I don’t care! I’m sure you’ve got plenty of options. Or how about you change your goddamn shift so that you can pick him up? It can’t be that hard to switch with someone for once.”
“That’s not how my job works and you know it.” You press your lips taut into a line in attempt to keep your seething anger suppressed.
“Whatever…” Aaron snaps back, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “I’m busy tonight, so you’re just going to have to figure this thing out yourself. I’m sure you’ll manage.”
“Aaron-” You don’t even have the chance to get his whole name out of your mouth before the end dial echoes out of your phone speaker, and you have half the mind to throw it at the wall out of frustration.
If you’d told your sixteen year old self that you’d be a single mother and divorcee at twenty two you’re sure you would have laughed in your own face.
Yet here you were twenty six years into your miserable life and four years rid of the parasite that is your ex-husband. The only silver lining was Matthew, and that was only because he was basically the definition on a perfect child.
“You good?” Buck’s voice pulls you out of your moment of self-beration as he rounds the stairs up to the lounge area, a concerned expression on his face.
You turn sharply at his voice, jolted out of your own mind once you realise that there are in fact other people walking around. “Yeah I’m- Fine,”
His face softens slightly and he asks with genuine concern, “You sure? Aaron getting on your nerves again?”
You sigh heavily at Buck’s question, dragging your palm down your face as you shove your phone in your pocket. “He bailed out of picking up Matthew from school and I don’t get off shift ‘til seven,”
Buck notices the change in your mannerisms and can practically feel the waves of frustration emanating from your body. You look like you just want to curl up into a ball and have a good long cry.
He can't help but feel bad at seeing this side of you. You're normally so strong and independent, yet here you are now feeling like a complete mess because of this situation. “I'm sorry...”
“It’s fine, I’ll figure something out-“
“It's not fine.” Buck replies softly. You're clearly unhappy. And he can't stand to see you like this. "We can bring him back to the station? He loves firefighters right?"
You shake your head quickly as you shut down his idea, raking a hand through your hair. “I don’t even know if Bobby would allow him to stay here-”
“Bobby wouldn't say no. He loves kids you know that, and everyone on the team’s been wanting to meet him for ages. Plus we could always just bring him along on a call or something. It's the middle of a Wednesday afternoon, it's not like we're going to be busy with anything major. Just something small or a car accident, nothing that would be dangerous...” Buck seems convinced by his own idea.
“I don’t know Buck-“ You purse your lips awkwardly at his suggestion, finding hesitance both out of anxiety of Matthew inconveniencing the team and also because it could possibly put his safety in jeopardy if you were to take him on a call with you and something happened.
“C'mon, it would only be for a little while. I’m sure Matthew would love to get to ride in the fire truck. He'd be the coolest kid in his class. Besides, he'd be safe, we'd make sure of that. It wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience either. We'd all love to meet him.” Buck dismisses your concerns with a small shake of his head, gently pushing his idea for what could be a fun day for Matthew in the wake of his father’s failure.
And as much as you wanted to deny his ideas, you didn’t really have any other option. “I’ll speak to Bobby about it,”
You climb into the back of the fire truck with a small sigh. You’d really let Buck convince you into bringing your five-year-old to work with you.
You’d been most surprised at the willingness from Bobby to allow him in the station, although you suppose Chris had opened him up to the idea with how often he was here with Eddie.
Buck smiles as he gets into the driving seat and starts the engine, apparently not just statistics with seeing him at the station, but wanting to be the first one on the team to meet him.
Bucks inherent love for kids was always quite funny to you considering the fact that he’d never actually talked about having kids if his own, but if the way he acted with Chris was any indication, you knew Matthew would be in good hands.
You pull on your headset as Buck revs the truck’s engine ready to head off to Matthew’s school, shaking your head at him even though he can’t see it. “You’re ridiculous you know that?”
“What can I say? I try my best to make everything better,” Buck chuckles from the driver’s seat. “It’s no big deal. I’m glad to do it. Plus, this way I get the little ‘ball of sunshine’ you keep raving about,”
You laugh softly into the microphone at Buck’s enthusiasm at picking Matthew up from school. “He’ll probably be just as excited to meet all of you-”
Buck smiles softly at your laughter as the truck pulls out of the station, making a mental note to bring up Matthew around you more. Just seeing you genuinely happy and laughing is enough to fill him with joy.
You arrive at Matthew’s school soon enough, with Buck pulling up the truck right at the entrance of the school, where a handful of kids are standing in a group in the afternoon sun waiting for their parents to pick them up.
Buck rolls the window down once he’s parked, watching as you pull open the side door to get out of the truck, holding your hand perpendicular to your eyebrows to block the sun from your eyes as you scan the group of kids for your son.
“Mommy!” A small boy smiles excitedly and waves enthusiastically at you as the rest of the kids on the sidewalk start pointing and whispering to each other, and he runs over to the firetruck with his arms extended in your direction.
Buck guesses that must be Matthew, and he is just as goddamn adorable as you’d described him to be. He was almost the spitting image of you, hair colour, eye colour and all, the perfect little mini-you.
“Hey baby! How was school?” You pick the boy up enthusiastically, holding him on your hip as you press kisses all over his face. Buck swears he melts at the sight.
“Good!” Matthew giggles as he wraps his arms around you. “Why are you here mommy? I thought you were working?” He says excitedly as he looks from you to the firetruck and at Buck, who is leaning against the open window of the truck with an ear-to-ear grin on his face.
“Daddy was a bit busy so he couldn’t pick you up today, so Buck had the idea to pick you up in the truck, cool right?” You point towards Buck with a small smile as you move a small section of hair from his forehead, downplaying how dismissive Aaron had been about picking Matthew up from school.
You point in Buck’s direction as you mention him, bouncing Matthew gently in your arms as you walk over to the open window, and Buck gives him a little wave that Matthew eagerly returns with a smile.
“Very cool!” Matthew cheers excitedly as he looks between you and Buck. The two of you seem excited, so he knows that he should be too. His grin gets wider as he tries to take in everything at once. "Does that mean I’ll get to ride in the fire truck?”
"Yes it does little man," Buck says with a bright smile, immediately enraptured with Matthew’s excitable attitude. He really was a ball of sunshine. “Are you ready?”
"Mhm!” Matthew replies confidently, his eyes brimming with excitement at the thought of riding in the firetruck. He smiles back at Buck and holds his hand up for a high-five before turning back to you. “Are you going to be in the fire truck too mommy?”
“Yes baby, I’m going to be riding with you too,” You give a short laugh at the mild absurdness at his question, giving Buck’s forearm a squeeze of appreciation for how child-friendly he was before carrying Matthew into the back of the truck and closing the door behind the two of us.
Matthew smiles excitedly as he is buckled in the back of the truck with you. He seems to forget all about his dad not picking him up today, his whole focus on the fire truck.
“What's that thing?” He points curiously at your headset as you place it over your head, scrunching his eyebrows together when you adjust one to put on his head too.
“It’s a headset baby, it lets us speak to Buck in the front seat as he drives, say hi!”
Matthew puts the headset on and smiles before he speaks into it. "Hi Buck!" he yells excitedly into the headset.
Buck smiles widely back at Matthew in the rear-view mirror. "Hey there little man," he yells happily into the speaker. "How're you feeling, excited?"
Matthew laughs excitedly and nods his head. "Yea! It's so cool in here!" he shouts excitedly at Buck. "Can you make the noise?" he shouts into the headset with his usual enthusiasm and excitement.
You chuckle softly at Matthew’s display of excitement coming out the mess of his hair with your fingers as he continues to speak to Buck with all the excitement of if it was Christmas morning.
Buck smiles brightly at you from the front seat. Hearing Matthew happily talking to him through the headset fills his heart with pride. Here you are, sitting in the back seat of the firetruck with your son, and he can't think of anything that makes him more happy.
He looks back into the rear-view mirror and meets Matthew's eyes with a proud grin. "I'll make the noise for you, buddy. Just hang on."
Buck reaches his hands up towards the steering wheel and begins to push buttons and flick a few switches. Matthew squeals in excitement as the siren begins to blast, laughing excitedly as the sound fills the air.
“Having fun?” You have to raise your voice slightly to be able to hear yourself even through the noise cancelling of the headphones, giving Matthew’s knee a small squeeze with a smile plastered on your face.
He responds to your question with a sharp nod and a double thumbs up, and you can’t help but laugh at the adorable mess of the sight. You could swear your heart was melting at seeing him so happy at experiencing something that you’d become so desensitised to through working everyday.
"He’s having the time of his life," Buck smiles at you in the rear-view mirror. "Look at him." Buck gestures with a nod of his head towards Matthew, who is visibly grinning from ear to ear. He's giggling with delight as the noise of the the sirens fill the air. Buck is surprised by how much fun the young boy is having, but he isn't disappointed. He's thrilled by the energy that the little boy is giving off.
“Do you want to come back to the station with mommy for a bit baby?”
Matthew nods his head vigorously. "Yes please mommy! I'd love to come to the station!" he says happily, his grin spreading even wider across his face. He's clearly having the time of his life with you, and he wants to keep the fun going as long as he possibly can.
“To the station it is then,” You laugh softly, hugging Matthew into your side to press a kiss to the top of his head.
To say you were relieved by the fact that you’d managed to work something out in terms of looking after Matthew whilst still on the clock was a massive understatement. And the fact that Matthew seemed genuinely excited about it was even more relieving.
Buck had really come through today. You’d have to make it up to him at some point.
“You're the best mommy in the world mommy,” Matthew says excitedly as he hugs you tightly, his lips curling up into the biggest grin as he wraps his arms around you.
Buck glances back into the mirror once more and laughs to himself. Your son is so full of love and joy, and he supposes that Matthew only has you to thank for that.
“Awe thank you baby,” You lean down to press another kiss the Matthew’s forehead. “I love you,”
“I love you too mommy,” Matthew replies happily as he leans his little head against you, giggling with each kiss that you give him.
Buck glances back into the mirror with another big grin. Watching you two together is just so sweet.
He really is your little ball of sunshine.

Buck is the king of putting on a brave face.
Always strong, never faltering. He reassures everyone he's fine time and time again, smiling and cracking jokes. But you see right through him.
You've always been able to read him like a book. You don't even have to try.
After the lightning strike, Buck doubled down on his brave face. He wouldn't let anyone see him upset - not even Eddie. Which is rare. And worrying.
He seems to be coping surprisingly well, desperate to get back to work and resume normal routine. While he's stuck at home, he's been cooking, doing puzzles, watching football. You're greeted with a lovingly cooked meal and a glass of wine every time you walk through the door.
Until today.
Today, you walk into the apartment, and it's dark. No lights on, no TV blaring sound. Nothing.
"Buck?"
Silence.
"Buck? Baby? I'm home," you call.
Now you're worried.
You start striding through the apartment, navigating your way through the darkness. When you hear a sniffle, your head whips around. There's Buck, knees pressed to his chest, jammed in between the nightstand and the wall. He's curled up on the ground, head resting on his arms that are protectively wrapped around his legs.
"Buck? Hey, did something happen?"
"Yeah," he murmurs hoarsely. "I got hit by lightning."
"I remember," you say gently. "Did something happen today?"
"I don't know," he whispers. "I think I've been distracting myself. And today it all came crashing down."
"Talk to me," you urge.
Buck's lip trembles, and so do his hands. Warm, salty tears drip down his face, and his breathing quickens rapidly.
"Hey, hey. Keep your eyes on me, Buck."
He locks his gaze onto yours, and mirrors your breathing carefully. Eventually, he calms down enough to speak.
"I died. I've been so close to death so many times that I'm kinda numb to it. But this time was so real. How am I supposed to go on living my life like nothing happened, when I literally died?"
"You don't have to live like nothing happened, baby," you reassure, moving to sit down in front of him. "No one expects you to do that."
"I just -," he sighs, trying to formulate a coherent thought. "I just don't know how to carry on."
You reach out gently and place a hand on his cheek, wiping away the tears that are spilling over. Your thumb strokes his cheekbone carefully, grounding him back down to Earth.
"I know you're like, totally anti therapy -," you begin, and he laughs. "But talking to a therapist or a trauma counsellor might really help. Or maybe we find a support group. This is LA, there's groups for everything."
"You think there's a lightning strike support group?" he jokes.
"I honestly wouldn't be surprised," you chuckle. "And if there isn't? Well, we'll start one."
"I might be the only person who attends."
"Fine by me," you tease, nudging him lovingly.
You stand up, and offer him a hand. He takes it gratefully, getting up and instantly wrapping his arms around you. He inhales the scent of your vanilla shampoo, and the tension leaves his shoulders rapidly.
"I love you," he murmurs into your hair. "I'm so lucky."
"I'm the lucky one," you reassure. "Well, technically you are, since you got hit by lightning. And survived."
"I've always been one in a million," he chuckles, squeezing you a little tighter.
"Yes, you have. My one in a million, Evan Buckley."

Home Sweet Home
Tumblr media
Characters:
Eddie Diaz x Female!Reader
Summary:
The reader and Eddie are living in together with Christopher. You just got home and saw Eddie sleeping in the couch, waiting for you.
Nothing but fluff and sweet conversations
A/N:
I haven’t written anything in a while. Let’s see if I still have it lol!
It’s been a long day for you.
You finished a lot of works today and all you wanted is to crash into the bed and have the best sleep you can get before another long day tomorrow.
You went inside the house and upon opening the light, you saw Eddie lying on the couch, peacefully sleeping.
A smile immediately formed in your lips.
You put down your keys and your bag by the rocking chair and you approached your sleeping boyfriend.
It’s been 2 years since you two met.
There was a huge fire that took place in the hotel you used to work at. You got trapped in one of the guest's rooms because you were trying to rescue one of the guests too. Good thing the firefighters from 118 came to rescue you, and it was Eddie who saved you when you were almost hit by a falling debris.
You owe your life to Eddie.
If it weren't for him, you wouldn't be where you are today.
A few days after the fire, he checked up on you to see you're okay and that you're not experiencing any trauma. Then he went back again after a week, not to just check on you but to get your number. Since the day he got your number, the two of you are constantly exchanging messages.
Until one day, he finally asked you out, and the rest was history.
"Hey," you gently caressed his cheeks to wake him up.
His eyes slowly flicker and when he saw you, he got up and sat down on the couch, "I fell asleep while I was waiting for you."
You sat down beside him, "Yeah, I noticed that."
"You worked pretty late today," he said as he stretched his arms.
"We had a lot of issues today with our upcoming group, so I had to stay and negotiate with them. Good thing I'm finally home," you answered.
He wrapped his arms around you and hugged you as warm as he could make you feel, "Yeah, you're home. Chris was actually waiting for you too, but I guess he fell asleep." You felt Eddie kissed your head, "I guess I'm not the only one who misses you."
"Aww, I miss you and Chris too,” you answered as you rest your hand on top of his chest.
This is what made you so excited to come home — to feel secured and happy in the arms of your boyfriend. Ever since you two moved in together, you stopped experiencing nightmares that you’ve been experiencing since you were a kid. And every single time you wake up in the morning, your heart is filled with so much love just by seeing Eddie and Chris.
“By the way,” Eddie faces you but his arms are still wrapped around you, “It’s my off this weekend. I’m planning to take you and Christopher out.”
“That sounds like a nice plan to me,” you answered with a smile on your face.
“Are you sure you’re okay to go out with us? I’m worried you might have to work this weekend, given the circumstances you’re dealing with right now,” he said.
You cupped his right cheeks and assured him that it’s totally okay, “I’m off this weekend too anyways. Plus, I’ve been wanting to go out with you and Chris. I can’t even remember the last time we went out, just the three of us.”
“How ‘bout on Monday?”
“On Monday?” your brows furrowed in confusion, “Chris has school, right?”
“Yeah, but I’m talking about just the two of us,” he said. “I mean, the three of us are already going out this weekend, so I’m wondering if we can have Monday just for the two of us. Like, after we drop Christopher off his school, we can go somewhere, then we’ll pick him up in the afternoon afterwards.”
“I mean, I can take a day off on Monday too, but are you sure you want to go out on Monday? Just the two of us?” you asked.
He grabbed your hand and smiles at you, “Why not? It’s only fair to have some quality time for both of us, right?”
In all honesty, you are excited for some quality time with Eddie.
It’s been a long time since the two of you dated, because the two of you will always think of Christopher first. After all, you promised to each other that Christopher will be part and the top priority of your relationship.
“Sure,” you replied. “So where are you taking me?”
He winked at you, “That’s for me to know and for you to find out.”
“God, you are so full of surprises!” you commented.
Your relationship with Eddie has been both a blessing and a gift. He’s been there with you, through the ups and downs of your life, through thick and thin, through turns and twists. It was like he completed the real meaning of “love” in your life. And there’s no other person you would rather take the risk of falling in love than him.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” he suddenly asked you, not knowing that you’ve been staring at him.
You shook your head as you fix his hair and gave him a smile.
Well, you know your boyfriend too well. He’s not gonna take that as an answer, “Come on, tell me.”
“I just realized how damn lucky I am,” you confessed and you felt his hands on top of yours, “All my life I’ve been looking for someone who could finally understand me, who could love me and teach me to love myself even better. I’m so glad I finally found you.”
“No,” he kissed the back of your hand and gave you a reassuring smile, “I found my way to you. Right from the moment I saved you, my heart already knew you weren’t just a stranger that I needed to save. I had a hard time forgetting you, so I stopped trying to forget you instead, I accepted the truth that you are someone I won’t be forgetting.”
“I know I’m hard to forget,” you joked.
Eddie chuckles, “I have no plans of forgetting you,” he extended his arms around you and pulled you towards his chest, “You’re stuck with me, whether you like it or not.”
“I have no plans of resisting,” you answered.

Heat of the Moment - Eddie Diaz x Male Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Eddie has been flirting with you since you joined the 188 and finally takes action
Words: 1.5k
Warnings: heavy make out
Notes: I hope this justice to the anon who requested it
Y/N’s POV
I step into the firehouses’ locker room, the faint scent of aged leather and burnt wood lingering in the air. The camaraderie within the 188 has been welcoming, making my transition into the team seamless. Each member has extended a hand of friendship, but there’s one person who has constantly set my heart racing—Eddie Diaz.
The man is charismatic, there’s no denying that. His infectious smile and friendly demeanour have everyone at ease, but it’s more than that for me. Eddie’s playful banter, the subtle compliments that dance of the edge of flirtation, have me blushing like a teenager. And he knows it, damn it. It starts with those smiles—the kind that makes my heart skip a beat. He catches my eye across the room, a glint of mischief evident in the depths of his gaze, and that’s where it all begins.
Sometimes, as he passes by, his touch is barely perceptible but sends shivers down my spine. A casual hand on my shoulder when he shares a joke, or a gentle brush of his fingers as he hands me something. It’s a touch that lingers just long enough to be noticed but short enough to leave me yearning for more.
In the confined space of the locker room, Eddie takes it up a notch. I’m lacing up my boots, focused on the task at hand, when I feel his presence behind me. His hands find their way to my hips, a casual yet intimate touch as he manoeuvres around me to grab his gear. My breath catches, and I try to convince myself it’s just friendly camaraderie, but the way his fingers linger leaves me questioning.
Words, too, become his weapons of choice. He leans in close when he speaks, his warm breath grazing my ear. The simplest of comments carry a weight that makes my cheeks burn. “You know, Y/N, you really make this fire station a much brighter place,” He says with a grin, and I swear I can feel the heat of his words against my skin. As Eddie’s words hang in the air, I can’t help but feel a surge of wrath that has nothing to do with the uniform. I stand up, intending to respond with something clever or at least coherent, but the moment I rise, I’m acutely aware of his proximity.
Suddenly, he’s there, close enough I can feel the heat radiating from his body. It catches me off guard, and for a moment, I’m frozen in place. Eddie’s chest presses against my back, and the contract sends a jolt through me. My heart races, and I can’t ignore the magnetic pull between us.
“Is that so?” I manage to reply, my voice sounding much steadier than I feel. His closeness is intoxicating, and I can’t deny the effect it has on me.
He chuckles, the sound low and tantalising and I sense his breath against the nape of my neck, “Absolutely. You’re really something special.”
I turn around to face him, and the intensity in his gaze makes my pulse quicken. Before I can full comprehend what’s happening, Eddie takes a step closer, and my back meets the cold metal of the lockers. The sudden change in proximity has my breath catching.
“Eddie, what are you—" I begin, but my words are cut off as he crowds me, his body inching closer until there's hardly any space between us. The locker room seems to shrink, the air thickening with an unspoken tension.
His hand finds the wall beside my head, effectively trapping me. Eddie's eyes flicker with a mixture of playfulness and something deeper, more intense. "Y/N," he murmurs, his voice a low timbre that sends shivers down my spine. His proximity is both exhilarating and unnerving. I can feel the warmth of his body, the subtle brush of his breath against my skin. My senses heighten as his hand rests on the wall, caging me in.
His eyes, intense and magnetic, hold mine captive. There’s a playfulness in them, but it’s underscored by an unmistakable depth that speaks of unexplored desires. As he murmurs my name, the timbre of his voice resonates within me, sending shivers down my spine. It’s a magnetic pull, drawing me closer to the edge of something I never anticipated.
With Eddie’s hand finds mine, it’s a jolt of electricity. His fingers interlace with mine, creating an intimate connection that transcends the playful banter of earlier. The touch is firm yet gentle, as if he’s reassuring me that this is a path we’re walking together. His other hand, warm and possessive, rests on my hip. It’s a point of contact that sets my nerves ablaze. Every move feels deliberate, sending a rush of anticipation through my veins. I can’t help but marvel at the way his body aligns with mine, the proximity igniting a fire within.
In that charged moment, as Eddie's scent wraps around me, I can almost taste the anticipation in the air. The mixture of his subtle cologne and the rugged musk of the fire station creates a sensory overload that heightens every nerve in my body. The world outside this locker room ceases to exist, and all that remains is the awareness of him, close, real, and magnetic.
Shaky breaths betray my internal turmoil, but it’s not fear that courses through me; it’s a potent hunger, an ache that’s been building with every exchanged place and lingering touch. I can’t help but wonder if Eddie feels the same, if the unspoken tension between us is, indeed, shared desire.
As the seconds stretch, I tilt my head up instinctively, seeking something unspoken, something I can’t quite name. Eddie’s lips barely brush mine in a teasing promise before he ducks his head down, closing the distance.
The first touch is electric, a spark that ignites a fire deep within. His lips on mine are soft, a gentle exploration that quickly deepens. It’s a kiss that speaks volumes, transcending the uncharted territory we find ourselves in. The world tilts on its axis as the taste of him floods my senses—warm, inviting and undeniably intoxicating.
Emotionally, it’s a whirlwind. There’s surge of longing, of a connection forged in the unspoken language of desire. My hands, initially uncertain, find their way to his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath my fingertips. The kiss is a dance, and my hands navigate the contours of his body, discovering the warmth and strength I’ve only imagined until now.
The kiss deepens, a seamless blend of passion and connection. It’s a dance of two souls finally acknowledging the unspoken yearning that has lingered between us. Eddie’s hands, too, explore the landscape of my back, leaving trails of fire in their wake. The world outside fades into insignificance as we lose ourselves in the shared intensity of the moment. But, just as the crescendo of emotions reached its peak, a sudden intrusion shatters the fragile bubble we’ve created. The locker room’s glass door swings open, and the hasty footsteps of another member echo in the room. Startled, we break apart, breathless and disorientated.
Buck stands frozen in the doorway, eyes widening in surprise. For a moment, the air crackles with an awkward tension as he stumbles over his words, “Uh, sorry, didn’t mean to… I just forgot my…uh, never mind.” He fumbles with his words, and the realisation of what he’s stumbled upon dawns on him.
Buck's awkward retreat leaves a lingering tension in the room, and Eddie and I exchange a silent acknowledgment of the unusual situation we find ourselves in. The locker room, usually a sanctuary of camaraderie, has transformed into a stage for an unintended revelation, and the unspoken tension between Eddie and me is now exposed, hanging palpably in the air. As Buck stumbles out of the doorway, hastily retreating from the unexpected scene, I meet Eddie's gaze. There's a mix of amusement and shared disbelief in his eyes. We're both caught in this strange, suspended moment where the line between friendship and something more has been irrevocably crossed.
Just as we begin to compose ourselves, Eddie glances behind him, his expression shifting. It's then that I notice the rest of the team, peering down from the upstairs balcony. The realisation hits us simultaneously — the glass walls of the locker rooms have turned our private moment into an unintentional public spectacle.
A chorus of surprised gasps and hushed whispers filters down from above. The team, usually a tight-knit family, now observes with a mix of curiosity and amusement. My cheeks flush with embarrassment, and Eddie, ever the composed one, smirks, perhaps trying to diffuse the tension with humour.
In that moment, our private revelation becomes a shared experience with the whole squad, and the locker room, once a haven of shared secrets, is now a glass-walled confessional. As Eddie and I exchange a resigned yet amused look, it's clear that the dynamics within the 118 have just taken an unexpected turn, and there's no going back.

------------------------------------ 𝜗𝜚 --------------------------------------
This particular afternoon the team had come back especially dirty, all members requiring a nice hot shower and a decent scrub to rid their bodies of all that dirt and blood.
All would be fine if I wasn’t so insecure of my body. Gender-specific shower and changing rooms may have helped but it wouldn’t have defeated the issue nor made me feel that much more comfortable.
I hugged my arms around my chest loosely as I stood outside the door to the shower room, debating on going in and having that much-needed shower or waiting until everyone was done and risking going to more calls dirty and disgusting.
Buck eyed me from his locker, he’d picked up on my unease from an incident on call. I’d been having a good day until a patient made a passing comment about my body. Buck and Eddie being the only ones who heard were quick to defend but the damage was already done.
I must have been standing there for a long time because Bobby was already cleaned up and dressed and with Chim and Eddie entering back into the changing room with towels around their waists it left only Hen still showering and Buck and I.
Showers didn’t take long as we had to be ready in case a call came through, but time didn’t matter when it came to how I felt about my body.
Buck closed his locker and made his way to the entrance of the showers. He stops still in front of me. “You coming, Y/n/n? No offence but you kind of stink, not unlike me.”, he offers me a sympathetic and playful smile.
I stifle a chuckle, though still displeased with the idea, I follow him in. We pass Hen who smiles at us before leaving.
Buck turns and strips himself of his shirt, discarding it on the bench that lines the wall opposite the showers. He pauses and turns around to face me when he notices I haven’t moved from where I’m standing.
I feel awkward, at a loss of what to do. A constant debate in my mind of what I should do and what I want to do.
“Y/n.”, he says, moving closer to me. Gently he places his hands on my shoulders. “Is this about what happened earlier?”
I look him in the eyes nervously before looking away. Tears brink in my eyes, my bottom lip quivering. I raise my hand to my mouth, anxiously biting at my nails in a subconscious effort to distract myself.
Carefully as though I may break, Buck lowers my arm and engulfs me in a tight hug. It’s now that tears start falling, soft sobs into the firm chest of the man hugging me. His hand strokes my hair, “Shh, sweetheart.”, he soothes.
“You have nothing to be embarrassed about, especially when it comes to us.”, he says regarding the rest of the crew. “No one here is going to judge you and in the extremely unlikely scenario that they did, they’d have me to deal with.”
My sobs quiet down, Buck places a light kiss on my forehead and pulls away. “C’mon, let’s get you showered.”, his voice is gentle and caring and provides me a comfort in which I much so needed. His thumb swipes runny mascara from my cheek and he smiles down at me affectionately, a smile I can’t help but force myself to think could be amused and judging.
I nod my head, “Okay.” My voice comes out low and hoarse as I push the idea of Buck judging me out of my head.
Buck walks over to the light switch and flicks it off. The room is left dim but not in complete darkness as daylight pours in from small windows near the ceiling.
Behind me his fingertips grab onto the hem of my shirt, resting there. “Is this okay?”, he murmurs and gestures to lifting it.
“Yeah.”, I say quietly with a nod. He lifts the navy shirt over my head and throws it onto his. Buck scoops my hair up and moves it over my shoulder out of the way.
Buck pauses, “If you get uncomfortable tell me and I’ll stop.”
Goosebumps ripple along my skin at the feeling of the cold air and his touch. His fingers hook under the clasp of my bra, undoing it and letting it slide off my arms.
I step away from Buck and make sure to stay facing away from him, “I’ve got the rest.”
I wait until Buck is fully undressed and under the water. Steam rises as the hot water hits the tiled floor and Bucks large muscular back.
Once completely unclothed I join him, walking in front of him slowly and making minimal eye contact. My arms once again crossed over my chest.
Buck’s hair is drenched along with his face and body. The hot water helps ease my nerves and wash away the tension, our skin turning red at the temperature. The dirt and grime runs off our bodies, brown and red flowing down the drain until eventually it’s clear.
Behind me, Buck squirts some shampoo into his hand and runs it through the roots of my hair and massages it into my scalp. Our bodies may both be bare and very close but the intimate experience stays innocent.
Under the stream of water Buck rakes his hands through my hair and washes out the soapy substance before adding conditioner and shifting my hair over my shoulder. He lays a kiss on the shoulder without hair, staying there for a moment. Buck’s so overcome with the feeling of longing, longing that I could love myself and see myself just as he does. And I wish for that too, I really do.
We don’t talk but we don’t need to, the silence is comfortable and I eventually start to fully unwind.
The blonde behind me rubs my shoulders a few times before lathering soap onto his hands.
His hands innocently wander over the curves and crevices of my back. I close my eyes and I relish in the feeling of being able to exist without judgement even if it’s only with one person or only in this one moment.
Buck’s hands travel down the length of my arms. I suck in a deep breath as I know it’s time to turn around.
“Y/n.”, he says at my hesitation. Slowly I turn, water rinsing the soap from my back and the conditioner from my hair.
I don’t look at his face until his hand cups my jaw and gently forces it up so my eyes lock with his.
“Hey, we’re already here. Nothing is changing, I’m not going to suddenly be disgusted by you or whatever you think is going to happen, sweetheart.”, Buck professes.
I find myself at a loss of words, no one has treated me just how Buck does. “It’s just hard to believe, Buck.”, I reply looking at him sheepishly.
He nods his head in understanding, “I know, but you have to try.”
Buck reaches for the soap again but gets interrupted by the loud sound of the bell ringing. He lets out a sigh, not annoyed that he didn’t get to properly wash himself but rather at the fact he felt like he failed at trying to make the woman most important to him see how wrong she was about her feelings towards her body.
We both hurriedly dry off and pull on our clothes, being forced to forget prior events.
As we go throughout the rest of the day I can’t help but get flustered when I look at Buck or when sitting in the fire engine and his thigh brushes against mine.
I never thought I’d wish to be back, naked, in front of Evan Buckley.

Arguably the best part about your job was being able to celebrate a job well done.
That feeling of accomplishment after getting through a really tough call with nothing but a positive outcome.
The team never went half-assed on the celebrations, and you’re sure that the bar you all frequent post-shift knows you all by name by now from how often you all abandon your nights to spend an extra few hours in each other’s company.
That was another thing you loved about your job. The team. Your family.
You could spend 24 straight hours with them and they’d still make an excuse to spend a few more with everyone.
Today was no different. You rolled up to the bar in a tight-circle, eerily resembling the professional attitude you had to display during your work hours, one not yet shed considering it’d only been three-quarters of an hour since your shift ended.
You knew it wouldn’t last long, you’d all be too drunk to care about professionalism soon enough. Well except Bobby anyway.
You barely had time to walk through the front doors before Buck was running up to the bar to order everyone a round of drinks, a confident smirk etched on his face that only grew as the local news recounted the story of one of they day’s earlier calls with civilian footage.
“I wonder who that is,” He nudges your side as you walk over, cockiness washing all over his face as he nods up towards the TV hanging up by the ceiling. “They look pretty badass,”
You give him an almost dismissive hum as you pick up one of the glasses from the cluster to take a sip of the craft beer filling it. “I wonder,”
“Oh come on, you’re all over the news,” He gives you another small nudge. “You’re practically famous right now,”
He leans in towards you to talk over the music, reaching over to grab a pint glass of his own and clinking it animatedly against yours before taking a swig from it.
“He’s right you know,” Hen gives you nudge herself, joined by an enthusiastic thumbs up from Chimney behind her. “Own it,”
“Right? you pulled a whole superhero move,” Buck motions up towards the news broadcast again, where they are still replaying a clip of you kicking through a pane of reinforced glass on a high-rise from on top of the roof as an alternative method of entry to the collapsed stairwell on the inside.
“Sounds like you’re projecting Buckley, jealous?” You raise your eyebrow with an air of amusement as you take another swig from your glass.
“Absolutely not, in fact, I’m the opposite of jealous right now,” He leans in towards you again so that your shoulders brush together. “It was hot,”
“Okay horndog,” You roll your eyes at his comment, pushing away his face with the palm of your hand pressed to his forehead. “Keep it in your pants will you?”
He does nothing but laugh at the way you scold him, allowing you your personal space as he sits up straight once more.
Buck’s ability to flirt his way through any situation was honestly mildly impressive, how he managed to twist any situation into having a sensual undertone no matter what it was.
Last week it was Eddie carrying a sandbag into the station gym. The week before that it was the fact that Hen had cut a slice of lasagna for him instead of him doing it himself.
And apparently this week’s target was you. For jumping off a roof and shattering a glass window with your feet.
You’d question his taste if you didn’t know he was joking.
Although as the night went on and the table became increasingly cluttered with empty glasses, you started to question whether it was actually a joke.
Whether it was some quirk of his personality, or something more serious.
They say that drunk words are sober thoughts right? And Buck was definitely drunk and definitely spouting some choice words right now.
He whistles as you pot one of the striped balls on the pool table, his competitiveness all but disappeared underneath the haze that his alcohol consumption had laid over his brain. “Skilled with your feet and your hands? You’re just about every guy’s dream,”
He leans across the pool table to aim his shot, pool cue horribly aimed to the point where the cue ball barely skims the solid red ball he was aiming for. “Probably every girl’s dream too actually,”
“Instead of trying to kiss my ass, maybe you should focus on actually playing the game,” You genuinely can’t tell by this point whether his poor skills were an effect of the alcohol running through his system or if he was doing it on purpose just to get under your skin.
If there was one thing you did, it was play fair, and that included not letting your opponent give you an easy win.
“Oh how I would love to kiss that ass,” He makes an exaggerated show of leaning backwards to get a clear view, giving you another short whistle as you lean over the table to line up your next shot.
“Win the game and maybe i’ll let you,”
You swear you can see the moment his mind fractures, enunciated by another striped ball falling into one of the pockets and you lining up another shot.
He’s like a robot doing a hard reset, his eyes staring blankly at you like he physically cannot comprehend that you’d actually say something like that.
You don’t make your next shot, though whether by distraction from Buck’s eyes on the side of your face or your own drunken mistake you’re not entirely sure. Either way, when you straighten up to stand again, Buck hasn’t moved an inch.
“Go on, your turn,” You tap the side of his arm with your pool cue, amusement washing over your features as you watch him physically jolt from the contact and shake his head as if to physically shake off what you’d said to him.
Who knew such a casanova would get so flustered when someone played along with his little flirting game.
He ended up losing of course, you were far too much ahead for him to have a chance of catching up before you potted the eight ball and took the game, and you could swear there was a trace of disappointment in his eyes, and not because of the four solid colour balls still left on the table.
He didn’t even glance at them.
No, instead he kept his eyes firmly locked on you as you gloated your win.
“Now that is something to celebrate,” You lay your cue on the table with a victorious smirk. “Better luck next time I suppose,”
Your cockiness continues to flourish as you pot the remaining balls into the pockets and take Buck’s pool cue from him to lay it next to yours. “So what’s my reward then?”
”I- What?” He blinks at you a few times, eyebrows furrowing in confusion as his mind tries to catch up to the conversation.
“Well we laid out what would happen if you won, so what do I get for actually winning?” You tilt your head to the side as you take a step towards him, arms crossed over your chest with your eyebrow raised. “Surely I deserve to be rewarded, no?”
“I can uh…I can buy you a drink…” Buck pursed his lips together, dry swallowing as he leant backwards against the pool table upon your approach. He honestly didn’t know what was coming over him. Why was he so ruffled under the collar about this?
This was his prime domain, so why was it the second that you mirrored his interest he shut down and started backtracking on himself like a highschooler?
“I think we’ve had enough drinks don’t you?” You take another step forward as he sits on the edge of the table, essentially boxing him in despite there being very easy escape points at both his right and his left. “Besides, I want to be sober enough to remember this tomorrow,”
What on earth did you mean by that?
God he felt pathetic right now, a 6’2, 220lbs man being boxed in against a pool table of all things by one of his extremely attractive coworkers because you’d had a sudden streak of confidence and decided to flip his advances back on himself.
“Uh…” He gives a small, half awkward chuckle as his eyes flicker to consciously remain focused on your own eyes and not fall downwards. He knew the uniforms were tight but god did he not notice how tight they were until he was having to physically restrain himself from looking further down. “Right well- uh- what do you want then..?”
Buck watched as your eyes left his to flicker downwards, not so far down that you were staring at his chest, but just far down enough that he could tell you had your attention on a part of his face that was not his eyes.
He’d blame the bright red of his cheeks on the drinks if you asked about it, but you seem far too enamoured by the way he nervously purses and bites his lips under your gaze to even so much as glance at anything else.
“You know what I want..?” You break your staring to meet his eyes again, although you still make the time to turn your eyes down to his mouth again during the breaks between words.
He swears you’re leaning in with every word, and he’d be damned if he wasn’t leaning in himself, a sharp, stuttered breath escaping his lips as you get close enough so your breath fans across his cheeks. “I think so…”
You give a small hum at his answer, lips quirking into a smile as you narrow your gaze and tilt your head slightly to the left so that your noses don’t bump together as you bring your faces within an inch of each other.
His lips part on instinct, breathing a whisper of air into your mouth as he anticipates the contact with closed eyes.
“I want you to stop drinking my orange juice,”
The tension in his shoulders seems to drop at your statement, and his eyes shoot back open as you pull yourself back to stand fully upright, absolute delight drenching your features as you read the waves of shock and dissatisfaction that roll over him at the sudden change in atmosphere. “What?-”
He was so close. So close to having your lips on his. And you ripped it away from him with that stupidly hot smirk on your face like you knew exactly what you were doing.
You definitely knew what you were doing.
“In the station, I know it’s you,” You explain yourself like it’s no big deal, like you weren’t centimetres from giving Buck what he’d been pining for for so goddamn long a few seconds ago. “Buy your own juice,”
“I- Seriously?” Exasperation practically drowns his voice as he speaks, and he narrows his gaze with an air of desperation that makes you want to give him exactly what he wants. “You pretend you’re going to kiss me and then tell me not to drink your goddamn orange juice? Not cool man,”
“Maybe you shoulda won the game, I don’t know what to tell you,” You shrug your shoulders with an air of nonchalance that only you would be able to muster in a situation like this, and it frustrates Buck beyond all belief.
“That’s not fair,” Buck shakes his head as he stands. “I didn’t know you were being serious,”
“Well that’s just too bad isn’t it?” You clasp your hands together with a tilt of your head.
“No, we’re not just gonna move on okay?” It’s Buck’s turn to approach you now, his hands emphasising his words as he waves them in front of himself. “I have waited so long for you to suggest you were interested in me you cannot just back out like nothing happened,”
You swerve his approach with a laugh to walk around the side of the pool table, like his frustration is the funniest thing in the world to you and not literally tearing him apart with every moment you try to brush off the lingering tension between you. “You are way too pent up about this,”
“I am the exact right amount of pent up about this,” He follows you around the table to box you in as you did him, except this time there’s really no escape as he plants his hands firmly against the edge of the table on either side of you. “You can’t just lean in like you’re going to kiss me and bail right at the last second,”
“I thought you liked the long game,” You cross your arms over your chest as a deflection from the way your heart rate quickens, trying to cover the increase in how fast your chest rises and falls under the gaze he’s trapped you in.
“I’ve played long enough,” He leans his weight on his arms, bringing his face towards yours slowly. “I need to know if I’ve won,”
“I’d say so,” Your eyes are much less confident now the roles have been reversed, struggling to maintain contact with his as his face continues its steady path towards your own.
“Prove it.” You’re close enough now that you can feel the breath from every word he speaks on your skin, and his intentions are laid out very clearly as his gaze falls from your eyes to your lips.
He is going to kiss you if you don’t do anything to stop him.
He wants to taste the mix of alcohol on salt on your lips, explore the inside of your mouth with his tongue. He wants to feel the heat of your palms against his cheeks as you cup his face to stop him from pulling away and make you kiss him until neither of you can breathe.
He’s waited long enough to have you like this, and after your previous stunt, he’s not sure he can physically last much longer before he explodes from the frustration.
The way his hands slide from resting on the table either side of you to holding your hips solidifies that point tenfold.
He gives your waist a soft tug until your torso collides with his, and you have to brace your hands against his shoulders to stop yourself from losing your balance and stumbling right into him.
And then he’s leaning in again, his eyes flickering over your expression to look for any trace of hesitance or uncertainty in your features before he makes the final move.
And then there’s a shot glass between your faces.
“Shots?”
Chimney, ever horrible at reading the room —probably because he’s so drunk he can barely stand upright anymore— holds up two shots towards the two of you, one in each hand. “They’re on me~” He adds that extra part at the end as the true selling point, and it takes all of Buck’s self-restraint to not knock the glasses out out Chimney’s hand to make him leave the two of you alone.
You don’t seem so agitated.
“Why thank you,” You break from Buck’s grasp to take one of the shots from Chimney’s hand, raising it in Buck’s direction. “Here’s to playing the long game,”
You down the shot quickly, leaving the empty glass on the edge of the pool table to rejoin the group at the bar, leaving Buck alone and so goddamn sexually frustrated he genuinely thinks he might pass out from the strain.
You know exactly what you’re doing by dragging this out, and he has half the mind to prove your idea of ‘safety’ from his advances in the group wrong by sending his conscience to hell and giving in to his inhibitions in front of everyone.
But he’s not quite drunk enough to push it that far. Even if most of the team wouldn’t remember it if he did.
“So that’s a no on the shot?” Chimney raises the remaining shot glass in Buck’s direction, seemingly completely oblivious to the colossal cockblock he’d just imposed.
“If you weren’t so drunk right now I would punch you I swear-” Buck huffs as he all but snatches the glass from Chimney’s hand and downs the shot in exasperation, the sharp burn in his throat doing nothing to distract him from the ache in his chest from having a possible moment from you ripped from underneath his nose again in the span of less than ten minutes.
“Woah, what did I do?” Chimney furrows his eyebrows in offence at Buck’s statement. “We’re supposed to be family man, last time I buy you anything,” He scoffs in indignation as he leaves Buck to join the rest of the group once more, clearly unhappy with Buck’s reception to his ‘gift’ of a free shot.
A free shot and a missed shot at finally making a move on you.
He knew that come your next shift you’d ignore everything that had happened tonight, and he wasn’t sure he was ready to go back to the silent glances and subtle gestures. He wanted all of you, not just some aimless flirting that never went anywhere.
At least he had confirmation that you were in fact interested in him, that was a step forward in the right direction he supposes.
But god was the long game starting to get on his nerves.

It's absolutely against the rules.
There's a strict no fraternisation policy in place in every firehouse. It's there for a reason, after all. The city can't have all of its firefighters totally distracted because they're in love with each other.
Buck has never been one to follow the rules.
The minute he saw you, he knew he was in trouble. You cruised into the 118 with your sun kissed skin and gentle eyes and he knew there was no turning back. You flashed that million dollar smile in his direction and he could have sworn his heart skipped a beat. Yeah, he was screwed.
Little did he know, the feelings were very mutual. The first time he laughed at one of your jokes, your knees almost gave way. He looks at you like you're the only girl in the world. You feel like it, when you're with him.
At the 118, they call you Hazard. No one knows the meaning of the nickname besides Buck. Your little secret.
It came about one Friday morning shift. You weren't supposed to be working that day, but Hen called in sick, so Bobby asked you to cover. You were actually planning on going to the farmer's market, but you diverted your journey and made your way to the firehouse.
You weren't exactly dressed for work. You were wearing a pale yellow floral sundress that fell mid thigh, paired with sneakers and sunglasses. Buck took one look at you and almost passed out.
"Thank you so much for coming at such short notice. You're the best," Bobby says as you walk across the floor.
"It's no problem," you smile, making your way upstairs to grab some water.
Everyone goes back to their tasks, but Buck's eyes are glued to you. You look at him through your lashes, and he abandons cleaning the truck to run after you.
"Hey, you," he grins.
"Hey! You're in a good mood today," you wink.
"Well a pretty girl just walked into the room, so."
"Really? Where?"
You look around while laughing, and he shoves you playfully.
"You're an idiot," he chuckles.
You look at each other for a moment, before you realise what you're wearing.
"Well, I guess I better change," you tell him, turning to leave.
"Wait!"
Buck grabs your wrist and spins you back around, pulling you into him.
"Can you just give me one more minute to admire you in this dress?"
You look down at your feet, slightly taken aback by his boldness. Buck is not one to ever hold back, but he seems to with you. If only you knew it's because he's worried he'll accidentally tell you how he feels - or worse.
He uses his thumb to tilt your chin up so you're looking at him.
"You're so beautiful," he whispers, aware of the other people on the level below. "Most beautiful girl in the world."
"In the entire world?" you tease.
"Are you kidding?" he asks sincerely. "I would choose you over anyone."
He leans in without hesitation and presses a kiss to your lips. It's sweet and chaste and a promise of so much more. When he pulls away, you're both grinning like idiots.
"I've been waiting to do that since the first day I met you," he confesses.
"Well I've been waiting for you to do that since the first day you met me," you giggle.
He kisses you again quickly, before grabbing a hold of your hand.
"Wear this dress again tomorrow night."
"Tomorrow night?"
"When I take you out on a real date."
You aim a beaming smile at him, and his heart skips a beat.
"Fine, since you asked so nicely," you wink. "I can't wait."
You lean up to kiss him softly. You both can't get enough.
"If I knew that this dress is all it would take for you to ask me out, I would have worn it months ago," you laugh.
"You walked in and I thought I was gonna burst into flames. You're a fire hazard, woman."
You shove at his arm jokingly, smiling as you do it.
"Well it's a good job I'm a firefighter, huh?" you tease.
No one needs to know how you got your nickname. It's your little secret.

WHAT WOULD THIS WORLD DO? FEM!READER X EDDIE DIAZ
APART OF THE HUMBLE QUEST SERIES
SUMMARY: while waiting in the waiting room to hear about his best friend, eddie thinks about what the world would look like without her, one he doesn't want to live without.
inspired by what would this world do? by maren morris
cw: death, swearing, blood, graphic injuries (please let me know if i missed anything!)
lowercase is intentional! wordcount: 1.2k
a/n: this is the end of the hq series <3 i wanna thank everyone who’s supported this series this last year, i cannot wait for my next one !! thank u thank u thank u <33
IT WAS ONE SIMPLE CALL.
a call that shouldn’t have gone so far south as it did.
a simple 9-1-1 call for an elderly woman needing medical attention, turned into eddie diaz performing CPR on his best friend, trying to save her life. she had taken two steps back into the street, not seeing a car speeding towards her, before she got hit.
eddie watched in horror as her body flipped, the gut-wrenching scream y/n had let out, before her head hit the pavement, and she was out. he saw the life immediately come out from her, and her breathing come to a stop, before the 118 was able to do anything.
“c’mon!”eddie yelled over the commotion of sirens in the distance, knowing bobby had just called for backup, “c’mon peaches! don’t give up on me now!” the sirens got closer, but eddie never stopped. he refused to. not where there was a chance he could get his best friend back to life.
“eddie!”
eddie’s head swung back as he was pulled away from the h/c girl, ready to fight whoever had grabbed him, before he saw it was buck, and the paramedics from the 113 had taken over, loading y/n up into their truck and speeding off.
“what the hell!”eddie shouted, feeling emotion rise up in him, “where are they taking her?!”
“to st.johns.”buck told him calmly, trying to keep it together for the both of them, but deep down, he was scared beyond belief for the girl he considered to be like a sister to him. “i almost had her back!”eddie felt tears prick at his eyes as he swallowed the sob that threatened to escape his lips, “i can’t lose her.”
“i know.”buck squeezed eddies shoulders, trying to comfort him the best he could, “we’re going to meet them at the hospital. we’ve gotta be strong for her.” eddie nodded, locking down his emotions before walking back towards the truck, seeing something shimmer from the corner of his eye.
walking back towards the road, eddie crouched down, before letting the piece of metal slide through his fingers. his brown eyes glanced down, seeing the angel wings y/n always wore around her neck, splattered with blood.
his hands shook as he walked back towards the truck, trying his best to stay put together for not only y/n, but the rest of the 118. ‘she had to be okay. she had to.’ eddie thought as they sped towards the hospital, sirens and all. he didn’t know what he would do without her.
and he didn't want to know.
—-----
IT HAD BEEN OVER AN HOUR SINCE THEY HAD GOTTEN TO THE HOSPITAL,
and still no word on y/n, leaving eddie sitting in an uncomfortable waiting room chair, with an uncomfortable feeling, one he absolutely hated.
his fingers ran over the jagged metal wings, with his leg bouncing anxiously up and down, thinking over all the times he had with y/n, and what she would miss if she wasn’t here. glancing up for a moment, he noticed someone walking by with a peach in their hand, causing his thoughts to stop racing for a moment.
peaches.
it was a nickname only eddie had called the woman, after a spur of the moment meeting between the two, and y/n southern drawl had poked out. he had soon learned the girl was from georgia, and had left for the same reason he did.
to get a new start in life.
it took awhile, but the two had become vital in each other’s lives. from y/n picking up chris from school when carla couldn’t, to eddie giving y/n a place to live after she got kicked out from her apartment. they meant so much to each other. she was the glue that held the 118 together.
life would go on for everyone. the brides would walk the isles in june, the evening news about fires the 118 had put out that day would continue running, they would continue going out to calls, but it wouldn’t be the same.
not without the girl from athens georgia that he loved, and his son absolutely adored. how was he going to tell chris? how would he explain that the woman his son looked up to, spent so much time with and adored so much was gone?
‘no.’ eddie thought, shaking his head slightly, refusing to think of the worst outcome in this situation. he refused. y/n was going to be fine, and he knew it. she had to be.
he knew there would be constants in life, with the sun setting into the ocean every night, picking up chris every friday and taking him out for ice cream with buck, but the only constant he wanted in his life was at risk.
what was his world going to do without her?
eddie didn’t know, and he refused to know.
it felt like hours before a doctor came out, and the entire 118 rushed towards him, hoping for the best news possible.
it was the bloodied scrubs eddie first noticed, making him sick to his stomach knowing it was her blood, and then he noticed the look on the doctor's face, knowing something wasn't right. the final nail in the coffin was the words that came out of his mouth next.
“her injuries were too extensive, there was internal bleeding, and we weren’t able to stop it.”the doctor told them, and eddie saw bobby, hen, and chimney’s face’s fall.
“so what are you saying?”buck stuttered, and eddie felt tears prick at his eyes once more, not being able to stop them from falling this time, knowing what the end result the doctor was about to say.
“i’m sorry, we couldn’t save her.”
eddie felt his heart shatter in a million pieces as he stormed out of the hospital, and he could hear the cries of his coworkers behind him, knowing this was about to destroy all of them.
she couldn’t be gone. she couldn’t. he couldn’t lose her. he refused to.
but here he was, with a loud sob ripping through him as he sank against the truck that sat outside the emergency room, realizing he had just lost the girl he loved the most.
what was he going to do without you?

"Everything alright, Y/L/N?" Hen asked you after watching you for a few minutes being silent and staring into nothing. Only nibbling at your cup of coffee.
You quickly blinked with your eyes and looked at her. "Hm? Oh yeah. Yeah, everything is alright. 'm just a bit hungover from last night." You smiled and tried to assure her you were telling the truth.
She shouldn’t know that all the things you had on your mind right now were the events of last night. Being out with the team and staying at the bar longer with Buck. The both of you drank more drinks after one another and laughed together. You were dancing together and well. One thing led to another thing and you ended up in Bucks apartment.
Stumbling through the door with shared laughter and holding each other. You went to his kitchen to get yourself a glass of water. Giving him one as well. It was silent between you but there was something unspoken in the room. Your head was spinning but you both looked at each other in a certain way. Buck and you‘ve been friends since he joined the 118. Well after some time you became friends. In the beginning, you didn’t really like each other. You were heavily irritated by him and his behavior. But he felt the same way about you. After all, you can thank a tree and you almost falling that you both became closer. Since he saved you from falling, screaming after you almost fell.
You looked at him. Eyes filled with lust, you tried to ignore it the past months but it was getting harder and harder each day. Seeing him every day at work, needing to resist the urge to shove him against the wall and kiss him. Little did you know it was just as hard for him as well.
He looked you up and down, you did as well. He came closer to you. Very close. Your nerves getting the better of you. He set down his glass right behind you. While he bent down, he brushed against your arm. You followed his action with your eyes, not moving a meter. Not being sure you‘ll be able to hold back. The alcohol still being in both of your systems. Your knees were getting weak after he looked directly into your eyes. Which is the reason you held the counter behind your back.
"I.. Uhm probably should go." You whispered, not trusting your own voice.
"You could stay here. It’s already late." He answered, "You can sleep in my bed."
You shook your head and wanted to pass him but he gently held your arm. Stopping you from moving. "Y/N…" He whispered now and reached up with his other hand to touch your cheek. "I really want to kiss you right now."
Surprise was written on your face. "You.. We‘re drunk we shouldn’t do things we don’t want in that state, Buck."
Both of your eyes met after you looked at him again. You immediately pulled him to you and kissed him. Ignoring the voice in your head that told you to stop. He immediately kissed you back and put his hands on your waist. He gently put you down on the counter and you put your legs around his hips. The kiss was getting more heated. And you indeed ended up in his bed. With him together. Naked. Panting and sweating. Roaming over each other’s bodies and exploring them. You still felt his lips on you and how amazing it felt having him so close to you.
But you will never tell Hen this part of the story. She nodded and eyed you suspiciously but decided to not dig deeper. Her curiosity grew even more after Buck came up and greeted you both. Him looking at you longer but not saying more. And that‘s where things started to be more awkward between you. After you guys woke up in the morning you didn’t really talk with each other. You gathered your clothes and said goodbye very quickly to get home before work. You were nervous and didn’t know what to do. He wasn’t sure what to do as well, either if he should let you go or stop you and talk about the last night. But he let you go.
"I‘ll go and find… Eddie." You quickly got up and went down the stairs. Hen and Buck watching you leave.
Hen looked back to Buck and eyes him suspiciously. "What was that?"
"Uhm I don’t.. know." He tried to ignore the look on her face. She raised her eyebrows and slowly nodded her head.
"Don’t look at me like that, Hen."
She raised her hands as well now. "I‘m not doing anything!"
Chimney joined them now. "What‘s going on?" He chuckled and took one of the snacks that were laying on plates, prepared by you.
"Something’s going on between Buck and Y/N. I just don’t know what."
Buck wanted to defend himself but kept his mouth shut. He didn’t want to give in and out himself. They shouldn’t know what happened between you and him. Before anything would be talked about with them, he wanted to talk to you first. Alone. He didn’t know how to process the fact that you slept together. Buck didn’t mind obviously since he had a soft spot for you but he needed to know what you thought about it. His worst nightmare would be that you wouldn’t talk to him anymore and your friendship would be over. He definitely didn’t want it to happen like that. He never even imagined it would actually happen but he didn’t want it to happen while you’re both drunk. But maybe this was needed to get things rolling between you and to talk about each of your own feelings for one another.
Chimney tried to analyze Bucks body language. Eyeing him very clearly. Buck tried to ignore it but it got harder after Eddie came to join them too. Bucks look was hard to read but Chimney immediately looked in the same direction as Buck and was met with Eddie.
"You know something!" Chimney pointed to Eddie, who shockingly looked at everyone.
He shook his head. "Don’t drag me into this."
Buck cleared his voice. "I‘ll uh.. Leave you guys alone." And quickly went down, trying to find you.
Chimney whispered to Hen. "Ten bucks they’re sleeping with each other."
Eddie looked at him and rolled his eyes.
Chimney read this as an answer. "I knew it!"
"I didn’t even say anything! I have no idea what‘s going on between them." Eddie defended him but Chimney didn’t believe him even though Eddie was kind of telling the truth.
Buck walked around the station and found you outside. Standing in the sun and waiting for the next call. It was a quite peaceful day. There was only one call. Saving a puppy from the roof of a house. It got there through a window but it was nothing you and the team couldn’t handle with ease.
Buck stood next to you. "H-hi."
"Hey." You turned your head to him. "I.. Sorry that I left so quickly in the morning." You didn’t know what you should say. It was the first proper moment you had today to talk with Buck.
"Don’t worry. It was a surprising situation." He held a cup of coffee to you which you happily took. You thanked him with a smile.
You looked back to the sun, he did too. Both of you not noticing the group of your beloved family watching the scene between you and talking about it.
"Yep. They definitely have something going on."
"Chimney!" Hen slightly slapped his arm but chuckled. "It was very weird. Y/N was very absent while we were sitting here and after our sunny boy joined us, they quickly had to leave." She added.
Eddie watched you both but didn’t comment anything and just listened to Hens and Chimneys chatting. He didn’t officially know what was going on between you but he knew you guys fancied each other for some time now. It was hard not to notice the longing looks you gave each other. Internally he hoped you would realize soon what was going on in front of you.
You slightly nudged Bucks arm. "We‘re being watched." You whispered to him.
He chuckled and turned around to see Eddie shoving Chimney and Hen away. Trying to act like he didn’t watch you as well. You joined his chuckling.
Buck looked at his feet, stammering out his words. Nervosity and seriousness suddenly took over his body.
"Do you want to talk about what happened?"
You opened your mouth to answer but that‘s when you were interrupted by getting a call to an accident. You didn’t answer him and immediately ran towards the engine, leaving Buck alone. It took him a second to get his mind focused and he followed your tracks. The rest of the shift went along very easily. You had to help a mother giving birth to a boy at a parking lot. Her car was not working anymore and it was already close to giving birth. And there were another two car accidents with a few injured people but not a big deal. And it continued to be like that for the whole week.
Buck had no chance to talk to you anymore and he thought you were avoiding him. He knew you weren’t but he was anxious about it. Especially after you were no way to be found after your shift. He waited a few more minutes outside for you. And saying his goodbyes to Chimney and Bobby but you were already gone. Buck sighed to himself and got in his car, driving home. He definitely thought about it now that you were avoiding him. And he didn’t know why.
Bucks feeling that you were avoiding were still true. You were avoiding him because you heard how Buck talked with Eddie about someone, he recently had sex with. He mentioned that he wanted to go with them on a proper date. It was a few days ago, two days after you slept together. You thought it was some other girl and you got jealous. It probably didn’t mean anything to him, you thought to yourself. So, you did avoid him.
Seeing this, Chimney and Hen grew more suspicious about the tension between you and Buck. They were seeing that you avoided him each time he was in your near and how you tried not to be too close to him. But there was one thing you didn’t hear when Buck and Eddie were talking. Buck didn’t talk about some random person, in fact, he was only talking about you. Eddie told him he should go for it and officially ask you out but there was no chance to do it.
You were currently sitting on your couch and looked at the couch table. Your head was filled with different thoughts and things you were overthinking about. You didn’t give Buck an answer to his question and left without saying goodbye to him. You didn’t even text him. What if he‘s mad now or thinks you‘re avoiding him on purpose because you were embarrassed that you slept with each other? Your phone was already in your hands, and the chat opened with Buck. You were thinking about texting him and started multiple times but each time you deleted your typed words.
You huffed and got up to get something to drink but your fridge was not helping you. "Damnit!" You looked at the clock. "Fuck it."
You put on your jacket and shoes. You almost forgot to take your keys with you after you were already out of your apartment but you were quick enough to gather it. You quickly walked down and got in your car. You looked at your phone and thought about texting Buck if he was still awake but you decided against it and drove to his apartment. He wouldn’t leave you outside if he would open the door and be faced with you. But if you texted him and he wouldn’t answer it would be even more weird.
When you stood in front of his door anxiety took over your body. You wanted to knock but you weren’t sure if this was a good idea. Right when you were about to knock the door opened and Buck looked at you with a surprised look on his face.
"Y/N?" He still had his hand on his doorknob. "What are you doing here?"
You pushed his arm away and entered his apartment. "I know it‘s already late and it was an exhausting shift but.." You deeply breathed in and looked at him. "We need to talk. And it can’t wait until tomorrow."
He closed the door behind you and that‘s when you noticed he was wearing his jacket as well. What if he was on his way to you as well? No, you were just delusional. He probably wanted to go to a bar or something. He wouldn’t come over to you, right? Right.
He looked at you, waiting for you to continue but you were silent. "Is everything okay?" Buck was hoping you would want to talk about the events of the night that happened a few days ago.
"No. It‘s not."
Buck looked at you, worried but didn’t interrupt you. You started walking up and down. Nervousness built up even more and Buck stood there and watched you.
"I uhm.." You started, "I‘m sorry?"
"For what?" He was confused.
You deeply breathed in and looked at him. You were standing right in front of him. "For avoiding you and basically running away from you." You chuckled but it was your try to light up your own mood. Which in fact didn’t work.
Buck put one of his hands on your arm and squeezed it. "Whatever the reason was, it must have been a reasonable one."
You shook your head and shoved away his hand. You were not ready for any physical contact. His heat was too much for you, all it caused were goosebumps and the want to feel him close to you again. It was intoxicating. He was intoxicating. The way he softly looked at you all the time. No hatred in his eyes. Just pure adoration. You loved that about him. The way how he always tried to be there for you and comfort you whenever you had bad times. And how he showed himself when you guys were alone and you were able to be there to comfort him when he needed it.
"Ironically it‘s not. It‘s stupid." You looked to the floor. "I guess I was just jealous…" You mumbled, he almost didn’t hear it but he did.
Your confession caused him to smirk. You didn’t have to look up, you already knew it. It was Buck after all.
"So…" He took a step closer to you. "Why were you jealous?" He asked you, a teasing tone in his voice.
You huffed. "A few days ago, I overheard you talking with Eddie. About someone you had sex with and I.."
"You really thought I was talking about someone else?" He smirked and got closer to you.
You slowly walked back and nodded your head. "Hm.." You bit into your lower lip. "But you know what it‘s just stupid."
He chuckled and looked to the floor for a second before he looked up again. "What if I tell you that it was just about you? And the night we had?"
You gulped. He was getting closer to you and you tried to get away but at some point, you were cornered by him. Buck stood in front of you. There was no physical touch but you were able to feel his body heat. The more you were in his presence, the hotter it got in the room.
"Uhm.." You chuckled nervously. "That‘s a good point you know? And now that you mention the night, we…"
"I don’t regret it."
You said no word. Just looking at him surprised but happy about him admitting it. Now it was Bucks turn to be nervous. Especially because you said nothing. No reaction.
"Unless it‘s the wrong time." He held up his hands and backed up a bit but you took his hand.
You pulled him to you and kissed him. He kissed you back and put his free hand on your lower back. A few seconds passed by until you ended the kiss. Your foreheads were touching and your eyes were closed. Buck was smiling from ear to ear.
"I don’t regret it as well, Buck. I would never." You whispered and he squeezed your hand.
The both of you ended up staying awake a bit longer and spent the time with talking. Talking about what would happen now especially because you were working together. Buck eventually officially asked you out on a proper date to take things seriously to which you happily said yes. You both fell asleep and the next morning you didn’t run out of his apartment without barely saying anything to him. Instead, you woke up in Bucks arms and tangled legs. You smiled and listened to his heartbeat while he was still sleeping. After a few dates and months of dating in secret and stolen glances while working, you made things official. Telling Maddie and Eddie the news first and then your team.
It was a day on your shift when you and Buck walked in while holding hands.
"I KNEW IT! Hen, Eddie! Give me your money!" Chim yelled once he saw you and he congratulated you both.
Everyone else was in awe, especially Bobby. After Chimney and Hen found out that Eddie was the first one to know about your guy's relationship, they jokingly ignored him but, in the end, everything turned out well.
And well little did you know that Buck had planned many more things for you and your now-shared future. But after all, breaking the rules? It was worth it.
