The statue Hercules and Cacus in front of Palazzo Vecchio, finished in 1534 by Baccio Bandinelli. It is displaying Hercules slaying the fire-breathing giant Cacus, as his tenth labor.
It's next to a copy of Michelangelo's David. It is said that Bandinelli had a lifelong obsession with Michelangelo, being jealous of how loved he and his works were. He once even cut up a cartoon that Michelangelo had given to Florence, angering a lot of people.
