I miss ashton's cringefail attempts at pickpocketing-flirting with fearne who always just played along, i miss orym and imogen's deep, calm and slightly tense quiet conversations, i miss chetney and laudna's idiotic dynamic and the screaming they brought out of each other, i miss fcg analyzing all of their interactions within the group and trying to talk the issues of certain people at kinda inappropiate times. I LOVE going everywhere by bike. Don't need to wait for a bus. Don't need to cram myself into a bus with (urgh) people. Or even worse, what feels like every single student in town. I still get home in about the same amount of time. I'm so so flexible including with places. Like yeah sure, let's go there! I don't care if the next bus station is far away. Doesn't matter to me.

Stayed out late with friends recently. Two of em had to get their family to come pick them up because that's too far to walk and it was too late for buses. A different friend lives like 30 minutes away but always walks and their way goes through a small park where literally no one is at with few lanterns so it's pitch black and I could literally just walk them home and then take the bike which is faster and has its own light and feels and probably is safer than walking those dark ass streets at night alone.

Like. I can just do all that. And yeah, sometimes when I'm not doing too well I feel like collapsing afterwards and yeah, maybe my fingers feel like falling off a lot at this time of year but that's like. SO worth it. I have no idea how people can live and NOT go everywhere by bike. Like if it's more than 20-30 minutes maybe but even with hills.... I fucking love my bike.

My headcanons for StEx characters' ages. (You know... if they were human.)

(I already posted this over a year ago, but it was in a reblog, so I figured I'd post it as it's own original post. I'm just copying & pasting everything I wrote before.)

Okay, so for me, (original) StEx takes place on March 27th, 1984.

Dinah: 23. Dinah really gives me that “Youngest of the coaches" vibe, and knowing that Frances Ruffelle and Jane Krakowski were both 18 when StEx debuted in London and on Broadway (respectively) and Natalie Howard was 21 when StEx debuted in Bochum definitely adds to that vibe for me. (To me, she’s a Pisces, and would’ve very recently had her 23rd birthday.)

Greaseball: 32 or 30, but he’s almost 33 or 31 because I headcanon him as an Aries. I was feeling that Greaseball is a bit older than Dinah, but once I learned that Elvis & Priscilla have a 10-year age gap, I was like, “Yeah, that tracks.” (No pun intended.) But then I thought (literally while writing this), "Hmm, does G.B. seem almost 33?" Even with Jeff having been 36 when StEx debuted, Greaseball gives me more of a 29-31 vibe? Idk for sure now! 🤷🏽‍♀️ My headcanon is that he & Dinah have been together for almost 2 years.

Rusty: 24 or 25. I’m not entirely solid on his age yet.

Pearl: 26. I know people usually see Pearl as quite young, but I'm feeling 26 exactly from, like, every version I've seen of her.

C.B.: 25. Or 26.

Ashley: 30. I read that Ash is like “the big sister” of the girls, while I feel like Dinah is the little sister.

Buffy: 28.

Electra: 29-31.

Volta: 29.

Joule: 24 or 25. She has that younger energy; I don’t mean physical energy, I mean in her personality.

Poppa: 65-70.

Belle: 53-57.

The Rockies: 24.

Dustin: 23 or 24.

Flat-Top: 20. He definitely has the vibe of being the youngest, and I’ve read him described as quite young.

2nd & 3rd Class Sleepers: 26-27.

Duvay: 27. (I’ve gotten the headcanon that she is Ash’s younger sister, which is why I am including her.)

I don’t care about the new Belle or Carrie or Killerwatt. I haven’t thought about the ages for Krupp, Wrench, or Purse; I honestly... don’t pay much attention to those 3. 😬 👀

Whenever Laudna talks about her old(?) dream of being a lady and just her way of speaking, I can't help but think of Patia as the kind of poised and classy woman Laudna would be obsessed about.

The composure, the class with which she yields her magic, the extravagant fashion, her intellect, her long ass white hair and bejewelled headpieces. I think there'd also be this dynamic with Patia being an old wise elf and Laudna having been forced into that shape at the time of her death.

ALSO both have died by tree death (i.e. hanging and stabbing/explosion) and then came back to life.

Song Review: Widespread Panic - “C. Brown” (Live, June 25, 2023)

Looking at Widespread Panic in 2023, it’s obvious many years have gone by since the band’s formation. But listen to WSP ’23, and it’s almost as if time has stood still.

The craggy - and different - faces, grey hair and bald heads belie this, of course. But despite Father Time’s physical toll, that fucker hasn’t yet managed to mess with Panic’s musicianship and sound.

And so it was that the version of “C. Brown” the Panics played June 25 at Red Rocks sounded like in came from the very same band that’s been playing the song for nearly four decades now.

But the band - despite the same name - is different. Some of the players have changed and those who remain have gotten older. Yet Widespread Panic - from a strictly musical standpoint - continue to defy space and time and make music very similar to that they dreamed up when they were pups.

Good then. Good now.
