#A BIKE IS QUIET THEY DO NOT HEAR YOU THEY WILL NOT MOVE OVER MAGICALLY
Text
I LOVE going everywhere by bike. Don't need to wait for a bus. Don't need to cram myself into a bus with (urgh) people. Or even worse, what feels like every single student in town. I still get home in about the same amount of time. I'm so so flexible including with places. Like yeah sure, let's go there! I don't care if the next bus station is far away. Doesn't matter to me.
Stayed out late with friends recently. Two of em had to get their family to come pick them up because that's too far to walk and it was too late for buses. A different friend lives like 30 minutes away but always walks and their way goes through a small park where literally no one is at with few lanterns so it's pitch black and I could literally just walk them home and then take the bike which is faster and has its own light and feels and probably is safer than walking those dark ass streets at night alone.
Like. I can just do all that. And yeah, sometimes when I'm not doing too well I feel like collapsing afterwards and yeah, maybe my fingers feel like falling off a lot at this time of year but that's like. SO worth it. I have no idea how people can live and NOT go everywhere by bike. Like if it's more than 20-30 minutes maybe but even with hills.... I fucking love my bike.
#a biscuit's rambles#also i just love going out with friends til late??#with the lockdown and shit that is such an entirely new experience and its great#also i like feeling useful i think. i like walking a friend home knowing ill definitely get home safe#idk#i also like my bike. a lot#been taking it literally every single day for years now and i have no regrets#EXCEPT FOR THOSE FUCKING PEDESTRIANS THAT HEAR MY BELL AND DO NOT FUCKING MOVE#AND THE OTHER BIKES THAT JUST DONT RING THEIR BELLS OR NOT EVEN HAVE ANY#LIKE THEN YOU GOTTA AT LEAST YELL AT PEOPLE TO MOVE OVER YOU NUMBNUT#A BIKE IS QUIET THEY DO NOT HEAR YOU THEY WILL NOT MOVE OVER MAGICALLY#AND IM STUCK BEHIND YOU#ALSO ITS JUST ASSHOLE BEHAVIOUR LIKE SOMEITMES WARNING SOMEONE SO THEY KEEP TO THE BLOODY SIDE IS GOOD!!!#and dont even get me STARTED ON SOME OF THE CARS#MUCH LESS THE STUPID ASS FUCKING INFRASTRUCTURE OF MY TOWN#ITS LIKE THEY WANT BIKES TO BE RUN OVER#fun fact i have been run over before#just fuckin collided with a car#nobody would listen to me try to pick apart the details of how it felt#which was probably my way of trying to cope with that experience lol#though nothing serious happened. bUT STILL#also oh god that one stupid fucking street with those stupid ass cars NOBODY NEEDS A CAR THERE JUST BAND HTEM ALREADY#AND THE. THE FUCKIGN ROADWORKS#I CAN NOT REACH MY SCHOOL WITHOUT ALMOST BEING EITHER HIT IN THE HEAD WITH A HUGE SHOVEL OR RUN OVER BY A TRUCK#AND IF THATS NOT THE CASE THEN THERES SO MANY FCKING PEOPLE THAT EVEN IF I YELL AT THEM LIKE MAD I CANT GET PAST WITHOUT RUNNING SOMEONE#THROUGH MYSELF#im very passionate about all things bike. but thinking abt it is a huge part of my life so im allowed to be

Visiting Friends
a Magic School Bus one-shot by yours truly
It was late August. Almost time for school to start.
And it was BOILING outside.
“You know, you shouldn’t spend all day inside,” said Phoebe’s dad.
Phoebe Terese  had spent the past six hours in her room with the fan on, reading her bird books and plant books. As much as she liked being outside in nature, now was not a good time.
“Daa—aad. It’s too hot outside,” Phoebe said. “I can barely move.” To prove her point, she flopped down onto her bedroom floor, taking care to do so VERY dramatically. “SEE?”
“No, I don’t,” her dad answered.
Ach, I should have remembered! Phoebe scolded herself. Her dad was blind. How could she have forgotten?
“Fiiiine.” Phoebe said. She got up from the floor and slung her birdwatching satchel over her shoulder. Then she made her way to the garage to get her bike ready to go.
A few minutes later, Phoebe skidded to a stop in front of her friend Carlos’s house. She parked her bike in the driveway and dismounted. Then, still wearing her bike helmet, she walked up to the house and knocked on the door.
Inside, she could hear a dog barking and someone scolding said dog. “Luna, no! Be quiet!”
“Don’t worry, I’ve got her!” came another voice.
At last Carlos opened the front door. “Hi, Phoeb! How’re ya doing?” he said.
“I’m doing great,” Phoebe answered. (Translation: I wanted to stay home and read but my dad made me go outside because it’s “good for me.”) “Just coming over to hang out.”
“Well, come on in!” Carlos said. “Oh, and sorry about the dog. She’s new here.”
Phoebe had not met the Ramon family’s dog in person. All she knew was that the dog was a Malamute puppy named Luna and that she was very fluffy.
Apparently, Luna was still getting used to the concept of visitors. Phoebe looked over and saw Carlos’s younger brother Mikey holding Luna by the collar. When he saw that Phoebe was there, Mikey’s face immediately lit up.
“Phoebe!!! Hey!! How’s it going!!” he said, extending his free hand for a fist bump.
Phoebe returned the gesture. The two kids bumped fists, then made the fists “explode” in mid-air.
After saying hi to Luna, Phoebe and the two boys headed to the game room. There was a TV with a video game system plugged into it there, as well as a desktop computer in one corner and wall-to-wall board games. There was also plenty of space on the couch and in the beanbag chairs.
“How about we watch some Star Trek?” said Carlos, pulling a box of DVDs from the shelf. The side of the box read “STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION: THE COMPLETE SERIES.”
Everyone agreed that was a good idea. Phoebe loved Star Trek. Mikey also loved Star Trek. And Carlos definitely loved Star Trek. Heck, he’d even named his cat “Spot” after Data’s cat in the show.
A few minutes later, three kids, a fluffy gray-and-white dog, and an orange tabby cat sat in the game room, watching an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Phoebe and Carlos both sat on the couch, surrounded by pillows and stuffed animals. Mikey sat in his wheelchair next to them, and Spot was curled up on his lap. Meanwhile, Luna had taken the largest beanbag chair for herself.
Watching Star Trek here was very different from watching it back at Phoebe’s house. At her house, it was very quiet when she and her dads were watching TV. Hardly anyone said a word.
Here, though, it was loud. Carlos and Mikey gave unneeded (but still entertaining) commentary on the plot. Phoebe herself laughed out loud at the silly parts of the episode. All three of them yelled, “NO, DON’T!” at the TV when they saw a character about to do something dangerous or foolish.
Halfway into the episode, Mr. Ramon (the boys’ dad) came bearing snacks: popsicles and corn chips. He’d even gotten Phoebe’s favorite popsicle flavor: mango.
 A few minutes later, there were four people watching Star Trek. But Carlos wasn’t sure about the fourth. Within five minutes of sitting down, his dad had apparently fallen asleep. Again.
“Dad. Dad. Dad. Dad. Dad.” Carlos tried to wake him up. That didn’t work. Time for a different approach.
Fortunately, Carlos could always count on his brother for good ideas.
Mikey’s idea was simple: see how many corn chips he and the others could put on Mr. Ramon before he woke up. So far, they’d gotten thirty-eight chips. The Star Trek watch party had long been forgotten.
Phoebe took several photos of the chip-covered Mr. Ramon to send to the group chat. Wanda will get a kick out of this, she thought.
Forty-five chips later, Mr. Ramon woke up to quite the surprise. He wasn’t angry— just amused. But he would get his sons back for this practical joke.
Phoebe was hardly aware of the time passing as she, Carlos, and Mikey hung out together. They played board games and video games. They did arts and crafts together. They played two-on-one Ping-Pong in the garage. By the time it was dark outside, Phoebe wasn’t ready to go home.
“Hey, I have an idea!” said Mikey. “Let’s have a sleepover!”
“I’d love to,” Phoebe said, “but I need to call my dads and see if it’s okay.” She pulled out her phone and stepped outside the game room.
A few minutes later, Phoebe came back. “They said I can stay here!” she said. “My dad Mr. Cox is going to bring my pajamas and toothbrush here in a bit.”
“Mr. Cox is your botanist dad, right?” said Carlos. “I have some plant jokes for him. I’ve been trying to branch out with my puns, so I’m sure he’ll have a great thyme hearing them!”
“CARLOS!!!!!!” Phoebe and Mikey both groaned.

Strangely Charming - Chapter 11

“You starting a zoo, kid?” Dustin jumped and whirled around to see Calcifer standing behind him with a book in one hand, his skateboard sticking out of his backpack. “Sorry,” he muttered, “Maeve says I need to stop being so quiet when I walk up to people.”
“You’re Max’s friend.”
“Uh… kinda?” Calcifer shrugged. “Our siblings park near each other so we talk every now and then when we have to wait after school. Don’t know if she’d consider us friends.” Dustin nodded.
"Thanks for helping Mike with Will last night."
"Yeah, no problem. Considering how far away the house was I’m glad I went with them. You uh, you getting a lizard or something?” he asked as he motioned to the books.
“Or something,” Dustin said with a grin.
“Cool. Unless it’s a snake. I don’t do snakes.” He shuddered. The two walked up to the counter and Calcifer motioned for Dustin to go first.
“Thanks,” the boy said with a grin. Dustin put his stack of books on the counter and smiled up at the librarian. She looked at him, glancing at Calcifer who stood a few feet behind him looking at the book he planned on checking out.
“Mr. Henderson, you know the rules. Five at a time,” the librarian said.
“Yep.” Dustin pointed to each one and counted them aloud. The woman held up a slip.
“Ten.” Dustin’s smile fell. “You already have five books checked out.”
“My mistake. However… I am on a curiosity voyage, and I need my paddles to travel.” He motioned to the books. “These books… These books are my paddles.”
“I’ll check ‘em out,” Califer said. “This was for Mae anyway,” he muttered, putting the book he had been holding down on the counter. Dustin looked at the title and raised an eyebrow at him.
“Magical Herbalism?”
“She’s into gardening,” Calcifer said with a shrug. The librarian didn’t look amused at Dustin but proceeded to check out the books under Calcifer’s card. “Thank you, ma’am.” Calcifer gave her a smile as he picked up the books.
He and Dustin left the library and Dustin picked up his bike before Calcifer handed the books over.
“Here, I’ll hold your bag open for you.” He held out a hand and Dustin hesitated but shrugged off his bag and Calcifer unzipped it so he could put the books in. The ‘ghost trap’ box from his ghostbusters costume wiggled and something inside made a noise. Both boys froze and looked at each other. “I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that,” Calcifer said and Dustin nodded. “Please don’t get bitten by whatever I didn’t hear and maybe don’t feed it after midnight,” he added with a small smile. Dustin grinned, knowing the reference.
“Got it.”
“Now get goin’ or you're gonna be late.”
“Aren’t you going to school?” Dustin asked as he got on his bike.
“Considering I have a geometry test first period and gym second, nope.” Dustin chuckled as Calcifer grinned.
Tumblr media
Calcifer sat on his skateboard as he waited for Maeve after school. A few spaces down Billy and a girl were waiting for Max. He didn’t see her coming from the middle school.
“So, your sister coming or what?” the girl asked. Billy looked at his watch.
“Screw it. That little shit can skate home.” He threw down his cigarette before moving around to the driver’s door. “And don’t call her that.”
“What?” The girl blinked in confusion.
“Sister. She’s not my sister.” The two got into the car and Billy quickly pulled out and away. Calcifer frowned after the car as he stood up.
Mae, Max needs a ride home, step-douche left her. I’m gonna go to the middle school to find her, he thought out to her started skating towards the middle school once he heard back.
He had absolutely no idea where she would be, especially since he didn’t know the layout of the middle school, and figured he would just ask the first person he came across if they had seen her.
“Excuse me,” he called out to a kid as she approached down a long hallway, “You seen a girl with red hair-?” The kid stopped and he noticed tears in her eyes and his face immediately softened. “Hey, are you alright?” The girl looked at the skateboard he held under one arm and glared at it. With a jerk of her head the board was suddenly yanked from him. Out of reflex, his hand shot out and it stopped mid-air about a foot away from his hand. Her eyes widened and she gasped as she looked to see his eyes glowing gold. “Shit..” he hissed with a wince.
“You…?” Calcifer took a step back as his eyes faded back to brown and the board loudly clattered to the ground. He didn’t see the girl look at his wrists that were both covered by his bracelets.
“Y-You didn’t see that.” He pointed to the board then his eyes. “And.. And I didn’t see…” He motioned between her and the board. “that. Okay?” The girl looked confused and conflicted. Calcifer ran a hand through his hair. “I’m not suppos- I shouldn’t’ve-” He motioned with his hand before letting out a slow breath. “Look, I don’t say anything about you and you don’t say anything about me. Yeah?” The girl slowly nodded after a moment.
“Yeah…”
“Alright, cool.” He picked up his board. “And hey- maybe, ya know, don’t-” He motioned to the board again. “Don’t do that around people you don’t know, yeah? Not around strangers.”
“Yeah.” She nodded again then looked at his board before turning and pointing back the way she came. “Girl… with red hair.”
“Oh.. thanks, kid,” Calcifer flashed her a smile and a small one pulled at her lips. He started to walk by her but stopped. “Hey uh, I can’t right now, but if you wanted to- another day, we could talk about… what we didn’t just see.” Her smile grew and she nodded.
“Yeah.”
“Alright, see ya around, kid.” He gave her a nod that she returned and they went their separate ways.
Calcifer had been walking but soon started running towards the sound of Dustin shouting, “Will!” He turned a corner and saw Dustin and Max.
“Hey, there you are,” Calcifer said. The two looked confused to see him.
“What are you doing here?” Max asked.
“Have you seen Will?” Dustin asked as the three kept walking down the hall.
“Uh, no, came to get Max. Step-jerk took off without you so Mae’s gonna give you a ride home. Why? Did something happen?”
“We don’t know where Will went and he’s not answering his radio,” Dustin said. “Will!” They turned a corner and Joyce ran up to them. “Mrs Byers?”
“What’s going on? Where’s Will?” Joyce asked. She saw Calcifer who shrugged. Everyone turned to see Lucas as he burst in from outside.
Tumblr media
Maeve had been waiting for Calcifer and Max when she saw a boy run out of the middle school and out onto the field nearby. The boy looked behind him as if something was chasing him, but then he suddenly slowed to a stop. He slowly turned around, looking up above the middle school.
“Go Away…. Go away! Go Away!” he shouted, his voice growing louder.
“That can’t be good…” Maeve muttered as she started jogging towards him.
“Go Away! Go Away!” he screamed up at nothing. A moment later he suddenly stiffened then didn’t move. As Maeve reached where the kid stood two boys ran out from the middle school building calling his name. It didn’t take long for one of them to spot them on the field and they both started running.
“Will!” One boy told the other something and kept running towards them while the second boy ran back inside.
“Will?” Maeve put her hands on his shoulders and shook his lightly. “Will, snap out of it.” Her eyes flashed gold, but when nothing happened she put both her index and middle fingers to his temples. A flash of red and black in her mind suddenly pushed her from his violently, making her almost stumble back. “What the hell…?” she breathed.
“Will!” Maeve turned to the boy running up to them.
“He’s not responding to anything,” she said. “He’s in a… trance or something.” The boy tried shaking Will’s arm and shouting his name, but he still didn’t respond. Mike looked nervously from Maeve to his friend and back. “I’ve seen weirder stuff kid; has this happened before? Do you know how to wake him up?” He shook his head.
“I-... he snapped out of it last time- last night…” He shook his shoulder. “Will!” The two heard the doors of the middle school open behind them and saw the rest of the kids, Calcifer, and Will’s mother running over. “We just found him like this. I think he’s having another episode.” The group reached them and Joyce held Will's shoulders.
“Will! Will! Will! Sweetie, wake up! It’s Mom!” Joyce pleaded and called his name for an agonizingly long minute before Will’s eyes suddenly shot open and he gasped. Maeve looked to Calcifer who shrugged. Will seemed confused as he looked around at everyone.
“You alright, kid?” Calcifer asked. Will didn’t nod or shake his head but looked to him then to his mom. Calcifer looked to the others. “Where’s his stuff? His backpack.”
“Uh the AV club,” Dustin said.
“I’ll go get it and bring it out to your car, ma’am.” Joyce looked up at him.
“Thank you, Calcifer,” she said before looking back at Will. “Come on, honey. We’re gonna go home.”
“I’ll show you where,” Dustin said as he motioned for Calcifer to follow him.
The two boys walked down the hall in silence.
“So uh… you wanna tell me why the thing, that I still didn’t hear this morning, is now on your head?” Calcifer asked suddenly.
“What?” Dustin squeaked before letting out an unconvincing scoff of a chuckle. “What are you talking about?”
“Not knowing what it is… should you really be putting it so close to your brain?”
“There’s nothing on my head,” Dustin said with another chuckle.
“So your hat just normally moves on its own and makes the same little… noises.”
“How the hell can you hear that?” Dustin asked as his jaw dropped.
“I’ve got good hearing." Calcifer shrugged. "Why is it under your hat?” he asked.
“No reason.” The boy gave him a shrug.
“Uh-huh…”
They entered the AV room where the box was still open on the table. Dustin grabbed his backpack and looked to Calcifer who was looking at the backpacks on the floor.
“Uh, which one?” Dustin pointed Will’s out. “Thank you.” Calcifer picked it up as Dustin replaced Dart in the box then into his backpack. At the sound of a wrapper crinkling Calcifer turned and Dustin looked up to see him looking at him with an eyebrow raised. "Did you just… put candy in there with it?"
"He likes nougat," Dustin said with a shrug as he broke off another piece for himself.
"Well, yeah, but…" Calcifer shrugged. "Yeah alright." He left the room.
"You like nougat?" Dustin asked, quickly following, as his eyebrows shot up.
"Yeah?" Calcifer answered slowly, raising an eyebrow as the boy grinned.
"You want the rest?" Dustin held the remaining candy bar out to him.
"Uh… split it with you?" he suggested.
"Okay!" Dustin broke it in half and handed the piece to him.
"Thanks," Calcifer said before popping the piece in his mouth.
They rounded a corner and saw the others standing by one of the double doors.
“Hey," Calcifer said quietly. "Just… try not to start the apocalypse with that thing, yeah?” He glanced at the boy's backpack and Dustin nodded.
Calcifer handed Will’s backpack to Joyce who thanked him again before leading Will outside. Everyone stepped outside as she led Will to her car.
“Okay, that totally freaked me out,” Max said. “Did that not freak you guys out?”
“Two episodes in two days,” Lucas said as they watched Joyce helping Will into the car.
“It’s getting worse,” Mike said.
“You think it’s True Sight?”
“What’s True Sight?” Max asked. Mike shook his head at Lucas.
“It’s nothing,” Lucas said, shaking his head at her.
“Max, get your stuff and I’ll drive you home,” Maeve said.
“You don’t have to,” Max said, shaking her head.
“I don’t mind, really; it’s up to you.” Max nodded and went inside for her stuff. Calcifer gently nudged Dustin’s arm.
“Hey, True Sight, isn’t that a D&D thing?” he asked quietly. The boy looked up at him with wide eyes and the other two turned to look at him.
“What are you talking about?” Maeve asked, looking at Calcifer.
“Nothing!” All three boys said in unison while Calcifer shrugged.
“Okay, sorry I asked,” Maeve said, holding up her hands. “You all have rides home?”
“We have bikes,” Mike said with a nod.
“But thanks,” Dustin said quickly with a smile.
“Alright, I’ll go bring the car up.” Maeve started towards the parking lot.
“You know D&D?” Lucas asked as he looked up at Calcifer.
“Uh… I’ve never played it myself, so not really.” He gave a shrug as he scratched the back of his head. “But I was there when she started learning,” he said as he motioned after Maeve. “So I know some things.”
“She knows how to play D&D?” Mike asked incredulously.
“Maybe. Pretty sure she’s just learning it to hang out with our neighbor. He’s got some club for it that plays after school on Fridays.”
“The high school has a D&D club?” The three boy’s eyes seemed to light up.
“Uh… yeah?”
“Well, that’s one thing to look forward to next year,” Lucas said with a shrug.
“Hey, in all seriousness, is he gonna be okay?” Calcifer asked as he looked around at each of them, ending on Mike.
“I hope so,” he muttered.
“Well, uh,… you lot need anything just ask,” Calcifer offered as he rubbed the back of his neck.
“Thanks,” Mike said with a slightly forced smile as he watched Joyce’s car drive out of sight.

A/N: Not me looking up a book that was actually out in the '84 even though no one would check… So Calcifer skateboarding isn’t a new thing I added for this story, he had one in the other one too, but I knew before I even started writing this that I had to have the scene I did in this chapter considering the gym scene.

i had some fun with this one!!! thank you for sending in the prompt @sunshine-marauders <3
-------
“Lily, it’s okay, we’ll grab a room in a hotel, it’s not the end of the world.” James said as the two of them stood staring up at the boards in the centre of Euston station, tears in Lily’s eyes as she read the bright orange “CANCELLED” sign beside their train, the last train of the night that would get them home.
It had been a wonderful night of visiting the theatre with one of her best friends, getting lost in a musical for a few hours. The two of them had been singing songs from the show to each other on the tube on the way back to their station, not caring as they got weird stares from other passengers on the Northern line whilst they sang a beautiful rendition of All I Ask Of You. And sure, Lily had felt her heart beat a little faster when they reached the point of the song where Christine and Raoul kiss as she looked into James’ eyes, but that didn’t mean she liked him. It just meant that she understood the character, right?
But their sing-along had come at a price. They’d missed their stop. And the next after that. Then the next. It wasn’t until the last passenger left besides them on the train got off at Golders Green that they’d realised their mistake. And then they’d had to run and get the tube back to Euston, only to just miss one. A three minute wait later and they were finally heading back to Euston, getting off to discover that the last train to Northampton was cancelled. And they were stranded in London.
Lily was wiping furiously at her eyes. They’d stopped for a drink in a bar after the show, assuming that they’d have enough time. So the alcohol in her system heightened her emotions, resulting in the water works. James was scrolling through his phone, looking for the closest hotel.
“There’s a Travelodge or a Premier Inn, they’re fairly close. Everything else is ridiculously expensive.” James said, glancing up at her. “Which would you prefer?”
“Premier Inn, duh.” Lily said, pushing her hair out of her face. “Are you sure we can’t get a taxi?”
“From Euston to Leighton Buzzard?” James shook his head. “It’ll be cheaper to spend the night. Come on, it won’t be that bad. It’s just a short walk and then we can grab some breakfast in the morning before heading home.” He wrapped his arm around her shoulders. “What do you say?”
“Fine,” Lily shoved his side playfully, but leaned into his hold after. “But you’re buying breakfast, you’re the one who suggested drinks.”
“Deal.” James chuckled before ducking to kiss the top of her head. “Come on, let’s go. It’s late and we’re both shattered.”
And so they made their way out of the station, following Google Maps to the closest Premier Inn. It was dead quiet inside, just one sleepy receptionist behind the desk barely able to hold her head up.
“Hi, how can I help?” She asked in a monotone voice, having just blinked at the two of them a few times as if she was trying to figure out if they were real or just her imagination.
“Hey, we missed the last train home. Do you have any rooms for tonight?” James asked, running his hand through his hair. Lily watched his movements, eyes following the motion of his fingers brushing through the messy black curls. She wanted to do that, run her hands through his hair. Chill out, Lily. She mentally berated herself, barely hearing the conversation beside her as she tried to sort out whatever the hell was going on with her hormones at that moment.
“Lily?”
“What?”
“Are you good with sharing a bed? There’s only doubles left.”
Holy shit. The thought of sharing a bed with James both thrilled and terrified her. Would she be able to control herself around him? The not crush but definitely a crush that she’d been harbouring for him for the last few months might rear its ugly head and make her do something stupid. But then again, she really didn’t want to have to walk all the way to the Travelodge and have the exact same option, or no room at all.
So she nodded, blushing when James grinned and turned back to the receptionist, passing over his card. Lily tried to protest but he insisted that she could just send him half the money later to save time. Then before she knew it she was joining him in the lift, heading up to the fifth floor. Of course James had had the foresight to ask for some toothbrushes and toothpaste, Lily was far too occupied to even consider such a thing.
Lily decided that she was going to hum to herself the overture to Phantom of the Opera as they travelled up to their floor, her eyes fixed on the ceiling of the lift. And then James’ hand was in hers, pulling her out of the lift and down the corridors of the fifth floor until they came to a stop in front of their room. He swiped the key card and there they were, alone, in a room with one bed.
Her throat felt thick as Lily looked at the double bed, why did it look so tiny? She stood in the small space beside the open wardrobe and the bathroom while James flicked on the lights and moved further into the room, peeling off his jacket and kicking off his shoes as he went.
“Come on, Evans. It’s just a place to sleep.” He smiled at her as he said it, noticing her hesitance. Damn him for being so perceptive to her emotions all of the time. With a deep breath, Lily walked further into the room, setting her shoes beside his while her own jacket draped over the top of his on the chair.
“Here, toothbrush.” He said, passing her one of the two clear toothbrushes he had picked up. “I’ll let you use the bathroom first, gentleman as I am.”
“Oh, so kind.” Lily rolled her eyes while grinning at him, accepting the toothbrush gratefully. She shut herself up in the bathroom, immediately rushing to the sink to splash some water on her face. Why was she so warm? “Get it together, Evans.” She muttered to herself, glancing at her reflection. She sighed as she looked at her makeup, minimal as it was, she had nothing to remove it with. Which would almost certainly result in panda eyes in the morning, but what other choice did she have?
So she left her face alone and focused on brushing her teeth, being a little more thorough than she usually would so James wouldn’t have to wake up to horrific morning breath. God, James was going to see her first thing in the morning. Christ on a bike. She filled one of the small glasses by the sink with water to rinse out her mouth, then gulped another glass down.
James was sitting perched on the edge of the bed when she returned, his eyes meeting hers straight away. Damn, did this man ever stop smiling?
“All… All yours.” Lily said quietly, stepping out of the way as he moved to head into the bathroom.
“Thanks, Lil.”
The door locked behind him and she released a deep breath again, her fingers moving shakily to undo her jeans. She knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep in them, so wanted to get them off and climb under the covers before he could come back. He wouldn’t want to see her in her underwear.
Jeans folded, with her bra tucked safely beneath them, Lily climbed into the left side of the bed, hoping he didn’t mind that she preferred the left. She plugged her phone into the socket next to her bed, thanking her past self for packing her charger in her bag. And then she waited, sitting cross-legged beneath the duvet as she listened to the sounds of the tap running.
The bathroom door opened and Lily had to do her best not to gasp. He’d taken his shirt off. It wasn’t even like it was the first time she’d seen him shirtless either, but seeing him in a dimly lit bedroom right before he was about to be laying right next to her was something else.
“You don’t mind if I sleep in my boxers, do you?” He was asking, his eyes having taken note of her folded jeans.
Lily shook her head, doing her best to look him in the eyes rather than drool all over his bare chest like some hormonal teenage girl watching Magic Mike for the first time. But then he turned his back on her and was pushing his jeans over his hips and Lily couldn’t help but stare. It was actually so unfair how fit her best friend was now, she could still remember the scrawny little kid she used to swim in the local lake with.
Any shred of sanity Lily had left vanished when he turned to face her again, she could feel a wave of heat rushing all over her body. And he’d seen it happen, had seen her eyes darken and her gaze shift into something hungry.
But he ignored it, electing to just climb into bed beside her and turn out the light, facing away from her.
With a slight huff, Lily threw herself down against her pillow, gazing up at the dark ceiling. Her arms were folded over her chest, her legs still crossed like they had been when she’d been sitting. While annoyed that he’d not responded to her sex eyes, she also just felt embarrassed. Because she’d totally just objectified him, looked at her best friend in the whole world like he was a tree for her to climb and use. And she hated herself for it.
“I can hear you thinking, Evans.” James whispered through the darkness, his back still facing hers. “Relax.”
And she did, her hands slid to rest on her stomach, her legs unfolded and moved to rest against the mattress. Her eyes closed and she let out a small sigh. And then he had to go and roll over, his breath on her neck.
While she knew she should just ignore it, squint her eyes and try to sleep, Lily couldn’t help but turn her head on her pillow, her eyes opening once more. And there he was, looking at her. No glasses, his hair already made even messier than usual from the pillow. He just looked so soft.
Usually James was all sharp edges and angular, charisma dripping from every inch of his body. He was sarcastic and energetic and never ever seemed to get tired. But there, laying in bed beside him, he seemed so calm, so at peace. His sharp edges had blurred, softened by the look in his eyes as he gazed at Lily. And that was what he was doing, gazing.
It didn’t take her much to lean in, just one look from him was enough. Her body turned on the mattress as she shifted to reach his lips, her own brushing his softly. And then she moved to pull away, to see his reaction when he moved, his hand sliding to the back of her neck to drag her closer. His lips covered hers and by god, did it feel right. Lily’s hand came to rest on his chest as she kissed him eagerly, their mouths pressing together in a perfect dance, nothing too eager or too slow.
“I’ve been wanting to do that for months.” Lily whispered when they broke apart, her eyes still closed.
“I’ve been wanting to do that for years.”
She looked at him then. There was no trace of a lie in his eyes. She believed him, because of course she did. James never lied to her.
And then she tackled him against the bed and thanked the London Northwestern Railway gods for cancelling the last train home.

peculiar taste| (m)
Words: 2.8k
Pairing: Taehyung x Reader
Genre: Smut, Fluff, pwp
Summary: Unknowingly, you find out that your feet pics are roaming around twitter just to find out that your room mate runs the page.
Warnings: FOOT STUFF, foot job ( idk if thats a thing), foot fetish
a/n:  There’s a lot of foot stuff so if that makes you uncomfortable then don’t read it. Btw if there’s other weird kinks/fetishes that you think a member would like just comment or message me.
Twitter is a scary place, you never had it until your friend from work told you to download it because there’s funny memes. So when you downloaded it you were not surprised that there were weird foot pictures. See you were not one to shame someone who has weird fetishes but this was different. Oddly enough the picture had the same pedicure as you and the same tattoo on your ankle. Deciding to go on the page you notice there were pictures of your feet, the black heels you owned were there too.
Is someone spying on you? There is a sudden noise from the kitchen and you jolt in fear, holding the phone close to you as you walk towards the noise. The fear disappears when you see your roommate slash friend Taehyung eating pickles from the jar. “ Hey, wanna go to the park? We can have a little picnic,” Taehyung munches the last part before putting it back in the fridge. “ What’s wrong?” He notices your worried face.
Shaking your head, not sure if you should tell him your worries. Taehyung would probably freak out more than you, he’ll probably call the FBI to install high tech cameras around the apartment. “ Nothing,” you smile. “ I’m down but I’m making the food. Last time you just packed onions and capri suns,” you move him aside to pull out bread to make sandwiches.
He gives you his signature boxy smile, “ Sorry you don’t have an acquired taste,” he shrugs.
---
When you guys get back from the park you immediately lay in your bed tired from all the running that Taehyung made you do. It was supposed to be a relaxing picnic, however Taehyung forced you to play tag with the children in the park. When you first met Taehyung you thought he was a quiet and stuck up person because of his emotionless face whenever he was sitting with people. But that all changed when you got to know him better, he was just a funny and weird person but in a good way. Needless to say you don’t ever want him to move out because he is just a fun person to have around.
The ping rings loudly on your phone, you get a message from your mom. You quickly text her back and then go on twitter to the foot fetish page to inspect it more. Maybe DM the person to see where they get these pics. Your eyes widen when you see a new picture that was uploaded a few minutes ago, your feet in your sandals that you just bought last week. Along with the picnic blanket that you use when you go to the park with Taehyung.
Jumping out of your bed you run to Taehyung’s room to demand answers from him, but he is currently playing Uno by himself. “ I’m trying to practice so I can win next time we play with Jungkook and Namjoon,” he places the green card down.
“ It’s Uno. The easiest game in the world, it was literally made for children,” you groan in frustration. Taehyung shrugs then goes back to his game and places the reverse card to the pile. “ That’s why I’m not here,” you shake your head. “ Why are my feet on a fetish page on twitter?”
His sharp eyes widen, you can’t tell if it’s due to shock or confusion. The brows are covered from his wavy black hair, lips parted in an ‘oh’ shape. “ Okay, don’t get mad. I have been posting you foot pics in exchange for money,” he puts his hands up when you throw his pillow at him.
“ Taehyung! I can’t believe you,” you sigh. You became a renowned foot fetish star without any acknowledgment. What if people start to recognize you on the streets? Now you can never wear sandals.
“ I should’ve told you but I knew you were going to be against it,” Taehyung gets, ignoring the Uno cards and going up to you. His large hands come together holding them in front. “ If you want to take me to the police I understand. But make sure you feed the racoon that’s been secretly hiding in the garden shed,” he gives his puppy eyes. You can’t ever get mad at Taehyung, no matter what. It’s like he has this power that doesn’t make anyone upset.
Sighing, you gently push his hands down to his sides, “ I’m not turning you in,” you say. His remorse features immediately vanish, now becoming gleeful, as he engulfs you in a bear hug. If he’s getting paid you wonder how much he is making off of your feet. “ So how much money have you made so far?” The bed sinks as you sit down on it.
Taehyung's finger scratches his head, trying to remember how much the thirsty people on Twitter paid. “ Hmm, like a couple hundred. I’m saving the money so we can get a new tv.”
The TV you guys had was found by Taehyung who was riding his bike around the neighborhood. An old man was giving it out and Taehyung called you excitedly asking you to bring your car so you can bring it back home. Upon your arrival you see an old blocky Sony tv that doesn’t even have an HDMI port. Taehyung convinced you that it was vintage and it would match the interior design of the apartment. “ Do people actually like that stuff ?” You ask while looking at your feet. What a weird thing to fetishize you think to yourself.
Taehyung's hair floofs as he jumps back on the bed grabbing his phone that’s beside you. “ Yes. A lot of people,” he quickly unlocks his phone. “ Look, this man was willing to pay sixty dollars for you to have a foot massage,” you look at the DM. “ There’s also other requests. Like you wearing heels, stockings, and other weird things,” he shrugs putting his phone away.
People pay money for this, and you guys do need some money. It wouldn’t hurt to have a little extra cash for stuff. No one is ever gonna find out that it’s your feet. “ Let’s keep doing it,” you look at Taehyung, whose eyes widen at your words.
“ Really?” Taehyung asked in a serious tone. Wanting to make sure that you actually want to do it not because of his stupid mistake.
“ Yeah, it would be nice to have extra cash,” you nod your head.
----
“ This feels really weird,” you flinch at the stickiness of the honey pouring on your feet. Taehyung makes a hand motion for you to keep pouring it as he films it on his phone. Your face is not in view so no one can see the weird faces you're making as the stickiness goes in between your toes. Just another weird request from a person. This guy is paying sixty dollars for this, so who cares that you are pouring honey on your feet.
Taehyung nods and gives the okay sign, ending the video. “ I feel bad that the bees are dying and we are wasting their precious honey on your feet,” he pouts before leaving to retrieve a wet towel. He tosses it to you so you can wipe the honey off before walking on the floor.
The wet towel doesn’t help much so you decide to wash it. “ Yeah, we should visit the bee sanctuary to give our condolences,” you joke as you run to the bathtub to wash your feet with soap.
“ That would be nice,” Taehyung smiles watching you wash your feet. He hears you laugh, “ Oh you were kidding,” he laughs along with you. The phone pings and he grabs it from his back pocket, looking at the DM’s. ***800 dollar request *** Taehyung reads loudly, eyes widening at the words. He reads the request to himself, heart beating fast because this is actually a sexual request. Also because this is the most someone is willing to spend on a video. For the past month it's only been under the hundreds that people spent on your feet.
Your voice startles him, “ What are they asking for you?” Turning off the faucet you give your undivided attention to him.
Taehyung gulps then scratches the back of his neck, “ Uh- he wants you to use your feet to fondle someone’s dick,” he coughs at the end. There’s a silence that washes over you guys. “ Yeah,  I can just decline-”
“ Would I be fondling you?,” you ask. Taehyung tucks his phone back in his pocket then sits next to you.
Taehyung puts his hand on your shoulder, his eyes are looking at you seriously. “ We don't have to do this.”
 It’s 800 hundred dollars that you guys would be missing out on.“ I want to do it. Our faces won’t be showing, right?”  You really don’t mind just as long as Taehyung is comfortable doing it with you.
Taehyung exhales, nodding his head, “ Yeah no faces.” His heart beats faster as he looks at your feet.
***
“ Let me wash my feet one more time,” you go get up to use the bathroom one more time. Taehyung tugs you back down the bed.
“ You already did it twice before you came to my room,” he lets out a chuckle. “ Don’t be nervous,” he sits on his chair. He grabs your foot gently placing it on his thigh. Large hands rubbing your ankle to calm you down. “ I’ll give you a foot massage and we’ll go from there,” he says softly. There’s a different mood between the two of you. It’s not like the usual playful mood that you guys have. It's heavier, if that makes sense.
Nodding your head, his big hands rub your feet. Rolling out any tension on the center of your foot, you sigh not used to this kind of attention in that area. His hands are like magic making all the stress on your foot disappear. At one point you close your eyes in relaxation feeling your body get lighter. Immediately your eyes open when you feel lips kissing your ankle, his soft lips leave a few more kisses as your eyes meet his dark eyes. Looking down you see a hard on “ Taehyung,” you whisper. He puts your foot back on his thigh, “ Should I start recording?,” you ask. Your hands shake, bringing his phone into your hands.
Taehyung lets out a quiet hum, indicating for you to do so. You hold the phone tightly, pressing the record button. Last night you did some research looking at feet groping and you feel kind of confident. Hopefully, you don’t embarrass yourself or make Taehyung immediately walk out of the room. Your right foot teasingly goes up and down his thigh, looking carefully at Taehyung’s reaction. He lets out a groan when you get close to his bulge but goes to the other thigh doing the same action as before.
“ Baby please,” Taehyung's voice is hoarse. The pet name surprises you in a good way but you quickly remind yourself that he is only calling you that so your name won’t be exposed. His hand goes to your leg, running his fingers against your calf. Listening to his request you trail your foot to his bulge, lightly brushing the tip of your toes. He lets out a breathy exhale, looking down at your foot taunting him.
You never thought you’d be into this, maybe it is the position. There’s some kind of power you hold as you get to dictate whether you should make him feel pleasure by the pressure of your foot. The way Taehyung’s breath quickens when you apply more pressure, his eyes giving you a sultry look. Your foot applies more pressure, toes spreading feeling the outline of his bulge. Doing slow circles, trying to feel more of him. His hand tightens on your leg, “ Fuck, right there,” Taehyung closes his eyes for a quick second. The hardness of his cock turns you on, you feel the thickness of it beneath your foot and you know he probably has a big cock.
“ Does my foot feel good, baby?” You condescendly ask. His eyes look into yours surprise of your tone and question. His jaw clenching, looking hot and bothered, a new look that you want to store in your memory. “ Look at you getting turned on just by my foot,” you tsk in disappointment. Applying more pressure you arch your eyebrow still expecting an answer from him.
Taehyung hisses in pleasure, “ Yeah, your foot feels good,” he tosses his head when you rub your foot harder up and down his clothed cock. “ It feels to fucking good,” he whispers more to himself.
“ Take your cock for me baby,” you command him. Taehyung gives you a face of relief immediately taking his cock out of his pants and briefs. And you were right about his cock being thick and big. Now you just want to feel it in your hands and your mouth, actually everywhere. The precum is leaking, begging to be touched. The heel of your foot meets his hard cock, and he flinches but then immediately going back to your touch. “ Spit on it,” you look down, indicating Taehyung to spit on his cock.
He groans loud at your assertion, not used to this. Taehyung never sees this side of you, having a higher authority. You're usually compliant and listen to whatever he wants to do. He follows your words, spitting on his cock, as he watches your two feet come together cupping the thickness of his cock. Jerking him up and down.“ Shit shit,” he curses at himself for wanting to come right now.
“ It’s not even my pussy and you're already a moaning mess,” you chuckle to yourself. His eyes are downcast to the slow movement of your feet. The small breathy moans are getting louder, and you love the sound of it.
If your feet are this good he can’t imagine what your pussy would feel like. He wants to desperately ask if he can fuck it later but he puts his thoughts away trying not to moan your name loudly. The movements get faster and he thinks this is the fastest time he has ever come. “ I’m going to come baby. Can I come please?”  He looks up at your face, and notices a dark gaze, and he wants to kiss the evil smirk off your face.
You wouldn’t be surprised if you creamed your pants right now at the sight of his begging and climaxing. “ Mmm, so soon?” You teasingly ask. Taehyung shamelessly nods, his hands clenching at nothing. “ Come all over my feet dirty boy,” your eyes watch carefully at his pretty bottom lip getting bitten by his teeth.
Before you know it Taehyung is tossing his head back, “ Fuck,” he lets out a loud drawl. His head Adam apple is bobbing and his pretty collar bones are getting more exposed. White spurts all over your feet and you keep fondling him until he holds your ankle in place. He finally looks down at the mess he made, surprised at how much he come.
You stop recording, placing the phone down the bed. There’s a towel next to you, you pull your feet towards you wiping the come off your feet. “ Can you kiss me?” Your head snaps to Taehyung’s question. His eyes don’t have the same lustful gaze but some hint of fondness.
Nodding your head, you are about to kiss him until you realize that you ate sushi about an hour ago. Fearing that he probably can taste it from your mouth you pull back shaking your head. “ Let me brush my teeth real quick,” you try to walk to the bathroom. Until Taehyung laughs brightly pulling you back and pecking your lips softly.
The kiss makes you swoon and want to kiss him more but he pulls away too soon. “ Why did you want to kiss me?” You ask him not wanting to get your hopes high. But your heart is already beating hard because it’s Taehyung who kissed you.
“ I like you,” Taehyung shrugs nonchalantly. “ Why did you agree to kiss me?” He asks you while holding your hand.
“ I like you,” you do the same gesture as him. Taehyung smiles and leans towards your lips and you clothes your eyes expecting a kiss until you feel him push you back. Opening your eyes you see him pull his shirt over his head, and you're surprised to his slightly defined chest and v line.
“ Even when I annoy you and cause nothing but trouble for you?” Taehyung looks down at you biting his bottom lip, a nervous tick he has.
You smile bringing his large hand down, pecking it lightly, “ That’s the best part though,” then pulling him down to kiss him.

Would you please do 27 & 33?
27. Sick/Injured Fic
33. Baby Fic
Set during the Eddie recovery arc we didn't get, at some point when he is mostly physically healed but not back at work yet. Maddie and Chimney need a babysitter and he's the only one available so Uncle Eddie gets tasked with looking after Jee-Yun for a day. Which is fine. He's totally got this. Christopher was a baby once and maybe Eddie wasn't there for a lot of that but he was there for some of it and looking after a baby is surely like riding a bike, right?
Wrong.
Half the problem is that Jee-Yun's parents are both excellent singers and singing to her has been the go-to way to calm her crying for months. Eddie? Cannot sing. And part of him is like 'she's a baby, she doesn't care' but the other part of him is very self-conscious singing badly to his sort-of niece who still won't calm down.
(There is also a lot of guilt going on because he tries to remember what things calmed Christopher as a baby, but he missed so much of Christopher's early years that he can't say with any confidence what actually worked.)
Meanwhile, Chimney has been texting him constantly throughout the day asking for updates about his daughter and Eddie has been replying that everything is fine, no, really, she's an angel, no problems here. For the first few hours that was true—she slept, he successfully changed her diaper, he fed her, she slept some more. But then she woke up and started crying and just,,,, won't stop.
Finally, after exhausting all his options, tired and sore and more ready to start crying himself than he would ever admit, Eddie picks up the phone and calls Buck. Maybe it's not the most logic-driven decision because out of all the people he could call for help, Buck is the only one who doesn't have kids. But Buck has looked after his niece before and he's always talking to Maddie and Chimney about her or over there spending time with them. And most importantly, Eddie doesn't feel like Buck will judge him for not knowing how to look after a baby when, as a parent, he's pretty sure that should be something he's good at.
(Of course, he knows that all their other friends and family wouldn't judge him either—really, he knows that—but some days it's hard to feel it.)
Buck is like, "Yeah the first time I looked after her she cried heaps too, she probably just misses her parents. Turns out separation anxiety starts young."
Eddie is despairing a little at hearing that because there is absolutely no way he can solve that problem until Maddie comes to pick her daughter up. But he asks, "What did you do?"
Buck tells him that the first week after they brought Jee home from the hospital, Maddie sent him a video of Chimney singing to her while Jee stares up at him with wide, transfixed eyes. It is a tooth-rottingly cute video. And since Buck cannot sing either, he gave up on that pretty quick and just played the video on repeat until she calmed down.
So he sends the video to Eddie and he's right, it is tooth-rottingly cute, and it must be some kind of magic because it works. Jee's cry quiet and then peter out completely and Eddie sinks down on the couch with her cuddled close to his chest, little fist curled in the material of his t-shirt right over the place where a bullet almost tore his life apart not too long ago. Finally, she falls asleep and Eddie just,, doesn't move for two hours because he's worried that any little movement will wake her up and start the crying all over again.
(Neither he nor Buck ever tell Chimney that his voice is a baby whispering weapon. The next time there is a crying baby on a call though, Eddie makes sure to hand them right over to Chimney and he and Buck share a Look when Chimney immediately starts humming and the baby calms down.)
Send me two (2) tropes from this list + a ship and I’ll describe how I’d combine them in the same story.

Word Count: 1600
Requested?: Yes/No(t exactly)

A/n: people keep asking me to write a fic where the twins take you to paris... this is for everyone who has ever imagined that!! enjoy! (please don’t hate me after reading this fic. please.)
~*~
PLEASE DO NOT REPOST MY WORK! REBLOGS ARE ABSOLUTELY FINE! <3
+ + + + +
“I can’t believe we were just flying,” Fred looked over his shoulder at the plane you had just departed, his mouth dropping slightly as he took in the sight.
“You literally played Quidditch at Hogwarts, and your dad had an enchanted car that you stole and drove. How are you so confused over flying?” You replied with an amused shake of your head.
“Because it flies without magic,” Fred said as if it were obvious.
“And it’s got wings,” George added. Fred nodded enthusiastically, “Like a bird.”
You shook your head, “Whatever you guys say. Now come on, we need to grab our suitcases!”
In hindsight, you should’ve assumed that taking the twins to Paris the muggle way would’ve caused chaos and many many questions. But in your defence, you did not expect to turn back from grabbing your suitcase off the conveyor belt to said two grown men sitting on the carousel and riding around on it, handing out the cases to the wrong people.
You sighed, much like a parent whose toddler had drawn on a wall in felt-tip and proudly showcased this fact to them.
Waiting until the conveyor brought the twins back to you, you grabbed each of them by the shirt collar and yanked them off (with a little difficulty, and a lot of strange looks).
“I can’t take you both anywhere,” you pinched the bridge of your nose and lazily gestured to two familiar cases that were making their way towards you, the twins leaning over to grab them.
“Were we not supposed to do that?” George asked innocently, though the look he shared with Fred told you they knew they were not.
“Did you see anyone else doing what you two were?”
“Well no, but we assumed everyone was just being boring,” Fred replied as he followed you out of the airport.
“To be fair, they were being boring, stood around like that. At least we gave them free entertainment,” George added with a shrug of his shoulders.
The taxi ride to the hotel went by quickly and, thankfully, with little to no embarrassment to yourself.
You managed to check in to the hotel when you arrived and get the twins to their room without much more of a hassle, besides Fred yelling out, “Au revoir monsieur! Oui oui baguette!” at the receptionist as the lift doors shut, prompting you to scold him, even if the bemused look on the receptionist’s face made you want to laugh.
“I’m going to settle into my room, sort out my clothes and freshen up. And then we can visit the Eiffel Tower. How does that sound?” You asked, receiving nods of affirmation.
You let yourself into your own room and smiled at the peace and quiet - which was quickly interrupted by a loud banging next door, followed by loud laughter.
You knew you should’ve asked for a room on the opposite side of the hotel to the twins.
It didn’t take long for you to sort out your belongings, flicking on the tv for some background noise as your eyes scoured a map of France, deciding on the best route to the Eiffel Tower. You’d purposely picked a hotel within walking distance, and with it being noon, you had plenty of time to make a day out of the trip.
Hearing more laughter, you decided that they’d had enough time to destroy their hotel room, and grabbed your card key and bag before exiting your own room.
You knocked on their door, hearing an exasperated, “Fred, this is permanent ink!” and bracing yourself for what Fred had used the ink for. To draw on the walls? To write on the table? To-
The door opened and your mouth dropped, “Did you... did you draw a moustache?”
Fred stood proudly in the doorway, an uneven, curly moustache drawn above his upper lip, round glasses - reminiscent of Harry Potter’s - around his eyes, George barely being able to breathe through his laughter behind him.
“I did! Do you like it? It’s a proper French moustache!”
“I can’t believe I’m going to be walking around France with you looking like that,” you stated, only being able to shake your head at him.
“Should’ve seen him panic when he couldn’t get it off,” George chortled, earning a glare from his twin.
“On the bright side, look what we can do!” Fred stepped inside the doorway to the left, George rushing to the right so you couldn’t see them anymore. Then all of a sudden-
“Ouiiiiiiii,” Fred yelled as he moved from the left side of the doorway to the right. “Ouiiiiiiii,” George copied the same movement, just in the opposite direction to what his twin did previously.
And then suddenly they moved back and forth, taking it in turns, yelling out “Ouiiiiiiii!!” whilst all you could do is stand and watch in half shock half confusion.
After a minute or so, both twins stopped as if they hadn’t been doing anything and stepped out of their room, closing the door behind them.
“We’re ready to go now.”
“I don’t know what just happened but I don’t want to ask,” you shook your head, before turning to head down the hallway, gesturing for them to follow you.
It felt later than nearly 1pm to you, with everything that had happened already. You also kept forgetting that Fred had marker pen on his face, and was receiving yet more strange looks from passers by as you began the short walk towards the Eiffel Tower.
“Can we stop at this shop?” George asked, gesturing to a tourist-y type gift shop. You nodded, “Sure, why not. I’ll wait here for you, just be quick, okay?”
The twins disappeared into the shop, emerging maybe ten minutes later sporting matching grins and berets, their ginger hair peaking out either side. Stifling a laugh, you pointed at them, “What on earth-“
“We’re fitting in, Y/n, duh,” George rolled his eyes at you with a shake of his head. “We’re simply showing our fellow Frenchmen that we too, are French,” Fred added, before looking around at the crowds of people passing you by on the pavement.
“Excuse me, sir! Bonjour! Je m’appelle Fredrique, oui oui! Baguette, beret!” He suddenly called out to a middle aged man who happened to be walking by with his dog. He took one glance at Fred and hurried on faster, which you didn’t blame him for.
A pair of 6’3 ginger twins wearing brightly coloured berets and holding baguettes under their armpits, one of which with permanent ink covering his face? Yeah, you figured you’d hurry on by too.
“We’re never going to get to the Eiffel Tower if you two don’t behave. Come on, stop bothering these people!” You grabbed an arm of each of them and pulled them along with you in the direction of the tower.
It didn’t take long for the twins to get distracted again, this time by a gentleman who was stood by the side of the road with a hat in front of him holding change and spare notes.
“Why is he standing so still?” Fred asked, confused.
George nodded at his twin’s question, “And why does he have a moustache like Fred’s?”
“He’s called a mime,” you explained, watching as a young boy stepped over to the hat and dropped a couple of pennies into it. The mime immediately came to life, making the twins jump, pretending to be stuck in a box.
“But he’s not in a box,” Fred frowned, tilting his head to see if the mime was somehow in some kind of invisible contraption.
You shook your head with a smile, “That’s the point, Fred. He is a mime, he mimes different scenarios, one of which being him stuck in a box.”
As soon as you had told the twins this, they decided it was the best thing they’d ever heard, and pretended to be stuck in their own boxes for a solid few minutes, until you swiftly moved them on, dropping some spare coins you had in your pocket from purchasing a magazine at the airport for your flight into the hat. The mime tilted his hat off to you and then you were back on your way to the Eiffel Tower.
As you got closer to the Tower, you hoped you’d be able to make it to the queue without any more distractions from the twins, figuring they couldn’t possibly cause much more trouble... could they?
Alas, as you heard a small scream, and a clash from behind you, you turned around, your eyes widening as you realised Fred had been too busy looking up at the Tower to notice a row of bikes, that he’d very kindly now knocked over, he himself being sent to the floor.
“Fred! Are you okay? Are you hurt?” You crouched down to his level where he was laying on the concrete.
He groaned, sitting up and pulling a knee to his chest, before looking at you and then up at George, “I can’t believe it. Eiffel over.”
The concern dropped from your face as you stared at him with no emotion, George rolling his eyes at the pun, though a smile was tugging the corner of his mouth.
Fred grinned wide, “Geddit? Eiffel? Because we’re in Paris?”
You stood up without another word, grabbing George’s arm and walking away from the eldest twin, much to the loud protests of the eldest twin.
All of this, you realised, and it was only day 1 - next time, you’d come to Paris alone.

Chapter 30 – Written in the Stars
Chapter 1     Chapter 29
“Congratulations Officer Grayson!” Bruce boomed, raising his glass along with the rest of the room of friends and family.  A loud cheer rose up in agreement with his comment.
Dick smiled at them graciously and clinked his champagne glass with Marinette’s juice glass, pulling her closer into his side with his other hand.  Marinette squeezed him back and looked up at him with a proud smile.
“Finally, someone who can fix my tickets,” Jason cheered.
“Not going to happen. In fact, I might write more up for you. Did you know parking your motorcycle in an alleyway is a moving violation?” Dick answered with a smirk.
Jason gaped at him, every inch of him conveying the betrayal he felt until he finally looked down to Lucy in his arms with a sour look.  “Man, fuck the police.  Can you say that?  Fuck. The.  Police.” He enunciated each word slowly for her.
“Language Master Jason,” Alfred chided.
“Jason, do not teach my children to badmouth their father,” Marinette warned with an accompanying glare.
Jason huffed and returned his attention to Lucy.  “Fine whatever.  But the cursing’s okay, right, Pixie?”
“No,” Dick answered quickly before Marinette could respond.  He really wasn’t confident what her answer would be considering the language she used when she and Jason were hanging out.
“Wasn’t asking you, Dickhead,” Jason singsonged while making faces for Lucy.
“Don’t badmouth their father while they can hear you, Jason,” Marinette repeated with a sharper edge to her voice this time.  “And I’m fine with you teaching them to curse as long as you’re willing to deal with the repercussions of Alfred and my Mother finding out exactly where they learned it from.”  She shrugged casually as she said it but the smirk on her face when she looked up at Dick made it clear she knew exactly how much of a threat that was.
Jason pouted and focused on Lucy.  “Your Grandmother and Grandfather are both deceptive bad asses.  Never cross either of them.” The room broke in laughter as Alfred grinned smugly and nodded in approval.
“So what are you going to do now, Officer Grayson?” Stephanie asked as she bounced Rob to quiet his fussing.
Dick rubbed the back of his neck.  “I don’t really know.  Hang out with the family, I guess.”
“I have a celebratory dinner planned unless you have other plans, Master Dick,” Alfred stated, looking at Marinette questioningly.
Dick looked back and forth between the two of them for a moment before answering cautiously.  “I don’t think I do.  Do I?”
“It’s up to you.  I was thinking maybe we could go out for a celebratory dinner.  Together. Just the two of us,” Marinette offered quietly.
“Like on a date?” His face brightened considerably.
“If you want it to be,” she answered shyly, suddenly not able to look in his eyes.  Suddenly, it felt dangerous to offer.  Her heart was pounding.  What if he changed his mind, which was ridiculous because he still acted the same as he had when they first started dating.  But some part of Marinette, the anxiety controlled part, insisted there was still a chance, and as always happened when anxiety entered the arena, it took over, regardless of rationality.
Dick wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to him, adoration shining in his eyes. “I do.”
Marinette let out a relieved sigh and an exhilarated smile spread across her face.  “Great!  I know just the place.”  A devious glint appearing in her eye.  The same look she got whenever she had come up with a brilliant plan.  She looked him up and down, taking in the dress blues he was still wearing from his Academy graduation.  “You should change before we go though.” She looked down at her dress. “I should too if we’re taking the bike.”
“I’ll watch the rug rats while you’re gone,” Jason offered as he wiggled Lucy’s hand that was wrapped around his finger.
“Don’t be ridiculous. I’ll watch over the infants to ensure they are safe and adequately mentally stimulated while they are awake,” Damian offered loudly, a confident look on his face.
Dick raised his eyebrows in surprise at Damian and looked down to Marinette to see if he was really hearing what he thought he was.  That was by far the strangest outcome of the situation, Damian taking his position as the twins’ uncle with deathly seriousness.  He watched over them like one of his pets, until they started crying. Then the twins were their parent’s or someone else’s problem.
Marinette smiled knowingly at him and nodded almost imperceptibly to assure him that Damian was in fact offering to babysit.  Dick subtly glanced to the more responsible people in the room to see if they would be there as well.  Barbara, Alfred, and Bruce all nodded at him to assure him they would stay as well.
“I’d help too, but… I have plans,” Adrien shrugged, deftly changing the topic of conversation before another fight over who the best uncle was could break out between Jason and Damian. Which was absolutely ridiculous anyway. Clearly, he was, precisely because he did things like taking this hit.
“With Wally?” Marinette asked innocently.
“Yeah,” Adrien answered a little too breathlessly.
“Ooooooohhhhh,” Marinette teased with a knowing smirk.   Dick grinned.  He had introduced Adrien to the Titans when they stopped by to meet the twins and take a second shot at meeting Marinette, this time without them having to hide anything and with Plagg sequestered in Dick’s bedroom, nowhere near Garth.  As expected, Wally and Adrien hit it off extremely well, the enthusiastic, bubbly, romantics, that they were.
“Shut up.  It’s not like that,” he grumbled looking away from them. He wasn’t about to give them the satisfaction of seeing his lovesick expression.
“Yes, it is,” Marinette, Dick, and Stephanie all chimed at the same time.
Adrien’s cheeks blushed a deep rose color and he growled halfheartedly at them as he left.  “Good luck,” Marinette called to him.  He waved and stuck his tongue out at her as he closed the door.  Marinette giggled and turned back to Dick.  “I’m going to feed the twins while you’re changing.”
“Okay.  I’ll take a quick shower too then.” He gave her a kiss on the cheek before making his way to his bedroom.
Marinette nodded and took Lucy from Jason, who only gave her up grudgingly.  “And we’re going to get you ready, too,” Stephanie informed her as she slung her free arm over Marinette’s shoulder.
Marinette laughed and shook her head.  “We’re going to have about two hours between when they eat and when I have to be back to feed them again.  I’m not wasting any of that time on appearances.  If Dick is still willing to go on a date with me after sharing a room with me when I hadn’t showered in I don’t know how many days, he will be fine with me not having a ton of makeup on.”
“Okay fine,” Stephanie groaned before immediately brightening again.  “I’ll do stuff while you’re nursing then,” Stephanie insisted, completely ignoring Marinette’s objections.
Marinette sighed and shook her head.  This was not worth the effort.  She was not willing to put what little energy she had into debating personal boundaries and priorities with Stephanie, and apparently Cass, judging by the excited glint in her eye.  “Fine. Just don’t get any makeup or hairspray on Lucy or Rob while they’re eating.”
Stephanie squealed and handed Rob off to Barbara as she and Cass raced to her room to get everything ready. They only had about ten to fifteen minutes to treat Marinette like their own personal doll and they weren’t about to waste any of it.  Marinette looked over to Barbara and Tim with a questioning glance.  “Either of you two want to get in on this?”
Tim waved his hands in front of him.  “Hell no. I’ve seen them in this mode.  I’m not getting in the middle of that.  Good luck.”
Barbara laughed and rolled over to her.  “I’ll come to help.  At the very least I can hold one baby while you feed the other one… and laugh at you while they work their magic”
Marinette giggled at her as she rolled her eyes.  “So very magnanimous of you.”
<><><><><>
Dick’s entire body relaxed as he sped through Gotham’s streets.  He had missed driving through the streets of Gotham with Marinette’s arms wrapped around him.  They hadn’t done it since she was only a few weeks into the pregnancy then quickly had to switch to a car when it became too dangerous and awkward for her to ride with him. He loved feeling the rush of the wind against him and the warmth of Marinette’s arms and body pulled tight against him.  The way their bodies moved in sync with one another as he turned or changed lanes.
“Make a left here,” Marinette yelled.  He nodded his acknowledgement and made the turn.  They were in a very familiar neighborhood.  “Right,” she yelled again.  He nodded again and made the turn.  They drove straight for a few blocks until Marinette yelled the final time. “We’re here.”
Dick chuckled and shook his head as he pulled off his helmet.  “Batburger?” He raised his eyebrow at her.
Marinette shrugged and pulled her helmet off as well, giving him a sweet smile.  “Thought we could try it again when I’m not pregnant.  See if it really was just the pregnancy that made it taste so good.”
“Want to eat in the park again?” he asked as he secured their helmets.  He took her hand, entwining their fingers as they walked into the restaurant.
“Yeah, if you don’t mind,” she nodded at him.
“I think that sounds brilliant,” he assured her, pulling her against him and circling his arms around her waist.
“You ready to order or what?” the cashier asked in an annoyed voice.
Marinette giggled into Dick’s chest.  “Not a fan of romance,” she whispered.
“Two batburger deluxe meals, please,” he looked over to Marinette to get her approval.  When she nodded in agreement he returned his focus to the cashier to pay.
Their order was done in just a few minutes and a few minutes after that they were looking out over the same park and sitting on the same bench they had sat at during their first date. Marinette took her first bite and quirked her lips to the side before continuing to chew.
Dick laughed and swallowed his bite.  “So, what do you think?”
“It was definitely the pregnancy.  But it’ll do. It was more about the nostalgia.” She grinned up at him and took another bite.
“How about you?  What do you think?  Are you excited for your first day as a Gotham Police Officer?” She grinned up at him, the proud look gleaming in her eyes again.
He smiled at the look, his chest puffing out ever so slightly at the way she was looking at him.  “I am.  I’m really hoping I will be able to make a difference, within the police department more than anything else.  I think if I can make a difference there, weed out as much corruption as I can, then that will feed out into the community, more than anything I could do as a single police officer.”
Marinette nodded in agreement.  “I think you’re right.  I’m worried about you though.”
Dick grimaced and considered not telling her the next part, but he’d promised her and, more importantly, himself, that he wasn’t going to keep things from her just because it might worry her.  He took a deep breath before continuing.  “I’ve already been approached by one of the families to work for them.  Saw him talking to a few other cadets as well.”
“Dick!” Marinette gasped, eyes wide with concern.
“It’s okay,” he assured her with more calm than he felt.  “Commissioner Gordon and I expected it.  It would actually be more concerning if I didn’t get approached by anyone.”
“I know.  It just makes me nervous.” She looked down at her burger and took another bite so he wouldn’t see her concerned frown.  “Your fellow officers are supposed to have your back, not stick a knife in it.”
“I can handle myself. I’ve been trained since I was nine to take on more than a few rampant officers.”  He puffed out his chest in an exaggerated motion to distract her.  “I’m like Captain America in the elevator.  I can take on all of them with nothing more than a stick and win.”
Marinette giggled and buried her face in his shoulder trying very hard not to laugh at him.  She finally pulled her face out of his shoulder to look up at him in adoration.  “You’re better than Captain America,” she assured him.  “Just as skilled, better moves, smarter plans, better leadership, and all without the need of a super serum.”  She brushed his hair away from his forehead and traced along the side of his face down to his jaw.  “And much handsomer.”
She guided his face to hers and pressed her forehead to his.  She let out a deep breath before continuing.  “Just… make sure you come home to me, to us, every night.”  She looked back up at him with concern etched deep in her features.  “Please.”
“Every night?  Forever?” Dick asked hopefully.
Marinette paused to think about it.  That was what she had meant.  Without overthinking it, without letting anxiety dictate her thoughts, that was what she had wanted.  That was what she was asking him for.  They had been waiting so they could figure out some issues they had between them and within themselves.  Dick acted to protect without sharing.  She hid away entire parts of her life.  They both had needed to learn to open up more.
She was ready.  She was ready to break down the last bastion of secrecy hidden in the depths of a magical fortification.  If Dick wanted, she was ready to let him in.  The question was whether he was ready.
She nodded slowly, her forehead still pressed against his, her breath fanning across his face.  “I’m ready.  I’m ready to move forward, but I don’t want to rush you.  I don’t want to rush us if we aren’t both ready.  I want to make sure we last.”
Dick grinned and ran his knuckles along her cheek.  “We’ll last.  It was written in the stars.  The universe brought us together.  And we’ll take on the universe if it tries to tear us apart.”
“And win,” Marinette giggled affectionately, the smile on her face brilliant and hopeful.
Dick grinned against her lips.  “And win,” he agreed solemnly.  “That’s a very important part.”  She grinned at him and gently brushed her lips against his.  She started to pull away but he followed her, pressing his lips against hers more urgently.  She pushed back against him, bunching her fists into his shirt, pulling him closer with it.  He wound his arms around her waist, pulling her into his lap.
She whimpered against his mouth as his hand moved up her back until it wound into her hair.  The sound made his heart race.  God, he had missed this feeling, the feeling of her lips against his, of her body against his, the exhilaration her sounds produced in him. He missed knowing she was his to touch, that she wanted him to do it.  He missed the way they fit, like a perfectly engineered puzzle box, each piece fitting into the other so precisely, anything else felt wrong.
She moved her arms around his neck, working her fingers into his hair to pull him closer.  She needed to be closer.  She had missed his warmth and the way he touched her and now she couldn’t get enough. She needed more.  She tilted her head to deepen the kiss, opening her mouth to grant him access.  She moaned as his hands traced her face and worked down her sides and back up her back.
She finally pulled away breathless after a few minutes and smirked at him.  “Definitely more enjoyable without the nausea.”  She rested her head against his neck as she fought to recover her breathing.
“Glad to hear it,” he laughed.  He hugged her closer to him, keeping his arms tight around her.  “I missed kissing you,” he whispered as if afraid to break a spell.
Marinette grinned and kissed his neck.  “Me too. I missed kissing you, hugging you, being held by you,” she looked pointedly at their situation, “sitting in your lap, calling you my boyfriend.”
He hummed in agreement and nuzzled his head against hers.  “I’d prefer fiancé or husband, but I’ll take boyfriend for now.”  He smiled thinking of the ring he already had stuffed away in his drawer.
“You’re ready for that move?” she pulled away in surprise.
“I’ve been ready for months.  Even after our fight, I’ve never changed my mind.  I love you Marinette.  I am completely, utterly, ridiculously, unapologetically in love with you.”  He leaned down to kiss her, slowly, sweetly, passionately.  “I know what I want my future to be.  I’m just waiting for you to decide if it’s what you want too.”
Marinette stared at him in awe.  She shook her head and buried it in his neck again as tears began to fall.  “Marinette?” he asked carefully, trying to pull away far enough to look her in the eye.  He wasn’t expecting tears.  That was… a concerning reaction.  He didn’t think suggesting they eventually marry would make her cry.  Damn it, way to kill the mood just as they were getting back to a great place.
She took a breath to steady herself, a breath that very much smelled like Dick. She pulled away enough to look up at him, love shining in her eyes.  “I don’t know exactly what I want for my future, but every time I picture it, you’re there with me.  Every iteration of it you’re there with me.  Sometimes with just Lucy and Rob, sometimes with more kids.  Sometimes in the manor, sometimes in our own place.  Sometimes in Gotham, sometimes somewhere else.  Sometimes I’m running a major fashion label, sometimes I’ve become a WE employee.  Sometimes you’re still an officer, sometimes you’re a detective.  But every version, every iteration, you’re there with me.  I know that much.  That’s all I know.  I love you and I want my future to be with you.”
He examined her eyes to look for any indication of uncertainty in her words, but her eyes were confident and adoring.  He surged forward to capture her lips in another searing, breathtaking kiss. The moan she let out into his mouth made his body react viscerally.  They needed to get somewhere more private before they continued.  “Maybe we should take this home and away from prying eyes,” he gasped out when he was finally able to force himself to break away.  She nodded wordlessly, still trying to catch her breath.
<><><><><>
“Perfect timing,” Barbara smiled at them.  Lucy was rooting into her chest searching for something to latch onto. “They just started fussing and searching for milk in places they won’t find it.”
Marinette laughed and took her from Barbara.  “Sorry about that.”
“No problem.  I feel worse for her.  She’s never going to find what she’s looking for here.  Hate to be a disappointment.”
“If it makes you feel better, they find me to be just as much of a disappointment,” Dick offered.  “No milk, no value.”  He shrugged.
“Come here, sweetie.  Don’t let them shame you for knowing what you want.”  She stuck her tongue out at them and left the room with a smile.
Dick picked up Rob from Duke with a smile and a nod of thanks.  “Anytime,” he shrugged as he handed Rob off.  “So… how did it go?”
“Hm?” Dick responded absentmindedly, checking Rob to see if his clothes needed to be changed too or just his diaper.
“How did it go?  How did the date go?” Stephanie elaborated annoyed by his lack of attention.
“Oh,” Dick’s eyes brightened and he grinned excitedly.  “It went brilliantly.  We’re back together and we know where we want to go with our future.”
“So… proposing within the year or within a few months?” Tim asked with a smirk.
“Pft. Knowing Dickieboy, within a few hours,” Jason scoffed popping a handful of popcorn into his mouth.
Dick ticked his head to the side.  “Considered it, but I want to make it romantic.”  He turned to Tim with a wink.  “Give me a few days.  Come on, Rob. Let’s get you changed and ready for Mommy.  Night guys.” He smiled at them as he carried Rob to the family bedroom.
“Have fun tonight,” Stephanie called after him with a laugh.
“No more babies tonight,” Jason called immediately after.  “Turn the movie up.  I don’t want to hear them ignoring me,” he grumbled to Duke.
Dick made it up to the family bedroom just in time to change Rob’s diaper, reswaddle him, and switch Lucy for Rob so Marinette could nurse him.  She took him with a smile.  “Did I hear Jason yelling?”
“Yeah, he was just saying how happy he was that we’re back together,” Dick assured her with a laugh.
Marinette chuckled then immediately quieted when the movement startled Rob. “Sorry Rob,” she cooed at him.
Dick swaddled Lucy quickly and laid her down in her crib.  “How about I set up a movie in the other room?” he whispered into her ear as he gently ran his hand over Rob’s head.
Marinette hummed in appreciation and pressed her head against his.  “That sounds wonderful,” she whispered back.
He kissed her temple and quickly made his way to his bedroom.  He pulled out a few fuzzy blankets and navigated to a movie he thought she would like.  He ran down to the living room where the rest of the family was and grabbed one of their bowls of popcorn and a few drinks.  “Thanks,” he called out to them as he ran away before anyone could stop him. He set up the popcorn and drinks on the side table and propped up a few more pillows for them to lean against while they watched the movie, if they did in fact watch the movie, though he really hoped they would be too busy doing something else.
He kicked off his shoes and double checked that everything looked perfect. Assured that it was, he made his way back to the family bedroom.  He had expected Marinette to be done already and come find him.  He silently opened the door to check on them and smiled at the scene in front of him.  That was why Marinette hadn’t come to find him.  She had fallen asleep nursing Rob.  Rob was lazily sucking at her breast in his sleep.  Dick shook his head at her.
Dick picked up Rob and put him back in his crib.  He fussed sleepily for a few seconds, trying to get back to the nipple, but quickly fell back asleep.  Marinette opened her eyes at the movement, arms reaching out to keep Robert from falling. She looked up at Dick with a hazily confused look.  “What’s going on?”
Dick smiled at her and made his way back to her, picking her up in a princess hold and carrying her to her bed.  “We have the rest of our lives to watch a movie or do anything else.  Tonight, I think you need sleep,” he told her quietly as he gently laid her down, pulling a blanket over her.
She hummed in response and pulled the blanket closer around her.  He kissed her cheek and ran his fingers over her face lovingly before pulling away to get ready for bed.  Before he could move away from her, she caught his hand and pulled him down next to her.  She looked up at him with soft, affection filled eyes.  “Please stay?”
Dick’s heart stuttered at the request, so open and vulnerable and filled with love. He smiled at her and climbed into bed next to her as she lifted the blanket for him.  “Always,” he whispered into her hair.  He settled in behind her and gently pulled her against him, feeling her warmth against him as she curled into him and he curled around her in a perfect harmony.
The End

You:
First love never dies.
For so many, it simply remains this fantastical dream. Of monsters and ghouls, fairies and witches. And perhaps, those people are right. In ways not everyone can imagine, most of the time, the realists and those grounded with what cruelties are out to get you, it isn’t always so healthy constantly hoping that the first one you give your heart to will ultimately be the last. Always, one’s immediate thought when they hold a hand or kiss another’s lips was that frivolous hoping and imaginative discourse that somehow, this is what it’ll be for the rest of your life. With that very person you chose to give your heart to and this illusion that you’ve given it enough thought, whether you actually had or hadn’t.
And those realists, those who are constantly out to get other’s hopes and irrational dreams, you never thought they’d speak to you that way until that first crack in your beating heart, the first gap made by the quakes of reality. Your first heartbreak.
And perhaps maybe the worst one, out of all the many heartbreaks you’ve gone through in your eventful young life. The ghosts of your past, the ones that never leave you alone and go on to haunt you for so long as you held onto some kind of hope, torturously holding onto that love and hurt all the same, you just let them exist. You tried to fight them, tried to move on. And for many years, you hadn’t. You failed and it brought you even more of this turmoil.
But had you really come to doubt that theory, the one that disproved that famous claim that first love, in fact, does not diminish, no matter the years and the people and the places you’ve gone through and met? Even with it so obvious that your first love came to such a disastrous, albeit expected end out of two teenagers hopelessly in love, did that love actually die?
Not when after all those years, everything you did and didn’t do out of love always ended up boiling down to him.
The time you shared, that fairytale of a story, one you were fortunate enough to live through and live by for all the years that came after, it wasn’t even because he was the safest bet, which he wasn’t. And it was unfair to call him that at all. It had its own risks, its own trials of hurt, but the triumphs you reaped, the light you’d inevitably saw at the end of that seemingly endless darkness, you never could doubt that it was there at all.
Perhaps that delusion of a fairytale was what brought you down in the first place. Perhaps all this was because you thought he, of all people, could never hurt you at the least, and he ended up hurting you the most. It was this illusion of some fantasy, one you wanted so badly to believe, that this wonderful story of how you came to be will continue for the rest of your life. That this contentment, this fruitful, carefree relationship will last and that troubles aren’t ones to worry about at all. This lie you told yourself that he could never hurt you, it was that very thought that did instead.
So perhaps it were true. Maybe first love never does die. What dies instead was that very mirage, this belief that it’ll continue to be a fantasy just as how it started. Because love never was a fantasy to begin with. It wasn’t how you came to be, or how magical it seems to someone who hears your story. It was how you hold on, how you never take your hands off theirs no matter how much the winds pull you apart. For so long as it continues to bring out the most beautiful version of yourself, love was holding on.
And for those years after your relationship, you did hold on. Both of you. With strengths unmatched by another. You held on.
You realized all that, this decision you ultimately made, a few months ago one night when you got a call from Steph when it should have been a call from Tim. But it wasn’t like you expected that latter at all. This happened one too many times than you would have hoped. But they said he was okay, just a little beaten up. He wouldn’t let the others touch him, however. That was when they called you.
You took a cab from your apartment, even when it costed a small fortune. You were worried, of course, but your hands weren’t shaking, your mind wasn’t a mess you no longer understood, your thoughts were coherent and still you could trail behind them with a red string attached to the back of your mind. All else was calm, as was the falling snow out the car window. You let that calmness get to you. You had to. Panicking wouldn’t do anyone any good. Especially not him.
You got to the manor with no one around to welcome you in save for the butler, which forced you to go straight up to Tim’s room, leave your coat by the rack. It was too early for the sun to be up, too late for it to stay that way for long. You hurried, stayed quiet, then you reached his room. You knocked no more than three times and opened the door without waiting for him to let you in.
They said he had been this way since the first incident, the one almost a year ago when he collapsed and ended up at the hospital. That at rough nights, times when his sharp eye wasn’t as sharp and movements not as quick, he refused to let anyone in for help. Maybe it was this denial that he was in need of any, denial that his lack of sleep and caffeine dependency was still a problem, or maybe he just didn’t want to trouble anyone. Though the same could be said for literally everyone else in the team. A lot of them get shot three times and brush it off just to save theatrics.
And maybe Tim was alright, better than the others let on, and it was because of that incident why they worry about him a lot more. Maybe this was just annoyance of that matter, his locking himself in his room even when a bullet wound over his shoulder so large was making his lips awfully pale and his skin an unnatural shade of white. Even when he didn’t need help, and in this case, he probably did, it didn’t mean you were going to leave him alone.
He was at the foot of his bed, back against the bed frame with a laptop in front of him, legs spread out relaxed and unbothered. Too relaxed, however, almost weak. And his eyes were droopy and low. He looked at you like he’d expected you to come, maybe even wanted to ask why it took you so long. But he didn’t say much. Nothing more than a faint hi spurred out his mouth.
You shut the door behind you and took off your shoes and your last layer of your sweater. When you stood close enough to see that the red stain on the bandage he put on himself wasn’t going to do him any good, you went straight to his bathroom, took out whatever kit he had lying around and settled on the floor right by his side.
“I’m fine, you know.”
“Shut up.”
You tried reaching for his bandage but he ended up grabbing your wrist to stop you.
“I said I’m fine.”
“You’re still bleeding.”
“It’ll stop.”
“It won't if you don’t let me take care of it.”
Still, he held onto your hand, didn’t let it go even when it loosened, and you didn’t pull away either. Instead, you inched closer, tangled your fingers together so yours would rub calmingly against the back of his palm the way he often liked.
You didn’t know what movie he had on his laptop right then, and frankly you didn’t care much. When he’d loosened his hold on you just enough to let go and reach for a clean rag in his kit, his eye trailed back to the screen. His hand, however, stayed on your lap, lightly resting on your thigh.
His way of giving in. It was one of those days, as obvious as it was. Didn’t mean you weren’t there to annoy the hell out of him until it inevitably changes, or not. You just liked being around to make sure he’ll be okay. Often, he is.
You pulled on the hem of his shirt, and reluctantly, slowly, he sat up, didn’t take his eyes off his laptop and grabbed the back of his shirt and pulled it off. You ignored that itch in your neck when he sat back down, lean abs rippling with his back crouched over.
You worked painfully slow, painful for you just as it was for him. His blood was everywhere, spilling out the bandage that had absorbed more of it than it should. You took it off, praising yourself for not taking another five minutes back at home doing whatever when it was apparent you should have gotten here two hours ago.
Like he expected some nagging remark out of you, he still couldn’t look you in the eye. And you, as frustrated as you were with him, opted not to say anything at all. You just took the rag and went to work, brushing it on the skin surrounding the wound red with the stains.
Nothing too lethal, though nothing you should ignore. You cleaned the rag and carefully, with the gentleness on your fingers you found to be present when you touched the most sensitive spots on him, you dabbed the cloth onto the wound, and with that, you found yourself sitting so close to his body, enough to smell the remnants of smoke from an exhaust pipe, probably from his bike, stained onto his bare neck.
No longer could you hear the movie that went on behind you, No matter how much noise there could have been, there was only silence, and with that silence there was that pull on your throat, one not too easily ignored unlike everything else you pushed to neglect.
Tim’s eyes were no longer on the screen, as it seemed when you glanced up to his face. There were on your hands, mesmerized by how soft you were touching him. Even with it just being a graze of your finger against his skin outside the wound, still it was this feathery touch, enough to have drowned him within a cloud’s misty bed.
It was, against your wishes, the kind of silence you wished wasn’t so deadly. Deathly silence, as you’ve come to learn, draws out the loudest voices in your head, thoughts in volumes you never would have otherwise comprehended. And there would be no ignoring them, not at that moment. And those thoughts lingered on the taste of his breath against your lips, his fingers that had went up from your clothed thigh to your cheek, brushing strands of your hair away even when they weren’t much a bother. They were on his hair, damp from sweat falling to his eyes. The smell of him, that mentioned smoke, the cologne he put on earlier that day, the natural musk of his scalp you once loved to revel in. It was the feel of his skin that seemingly grew warmer each second that passed.
You went on to clean the wound, even when your mind had long left that issue, though you convinced yourself it was reason enough for you to draw your head even closer. To have a better look at the wound. And at that, his face was close enough for you to hear the counts of his breaths.
Tim didn’t back away. He let you work, do whatever you wished with his chest without an ounce of protest.
Your other hand, the one without a rag to hide behind, finally found its way on his bare shoulder to hold onto when that hitch of your breath almost knocked you out cold, when at the faintest hover of his warm lips against your neck, the little trails of him cold on your skin.
You tried not to stop with the rag, but even that was hard to do. With your eyes closed shut, hands clenching to a fist just to have some kind of composure. Tim wasn’t pressing his lips against your skin enough to kiss it, to feel his tongue around it and send you to some heavenly descent. It was just there, barely even touching it, hovering so close enough to feel the chap of his dried lips but just not enough.
You almost clenched hard onto his shoulder when he breathed, hot against your skin, and continued to for so many more seconds.
Leaning into him would have been the easiest thing to do, to let his lips press hard onto your neck to leave marks, hand on your head tight enough to hold you in place.
But it was that knock on the door that pulled you both into the realities of what it was, or rather, what you weren’t. You didn’t kiss him that night, and since then, you never failed to ponder constantly on how you should have
That night was months ago.
Tonight, you hoped, that with every well-wishing angels and spirits there were, that with your hand on the doorknob, heart in your pocket, and breath held back for as long as it needed to be, that all this would only go as well as you’d hoped.

Tim:
He could smell the trouble he was in the moment she walked into his room unannounced. And only with her would it not bother him in the slightest, when if it were anyone else, he’d have sent them out his room three seconds after they’d barge in like that. She only knocked twice, just before she opened the door and walked in, thereby catching him in the middle of the untimely act of staying up past two in the morning, crouched over his desk so unhealthily bad for his spine that instinct screamed at him to sit up just to mellow down the eventual nagging.
But there wasn’t any of that, at least. “Hey,” she said, and she settled down with her jacket hung up on his door.
“You’re here late.”
“Figured you’d be up.”
“How’d you know?”
“I just did.”
Then he turned to his laptop, realized she knew because she saw his status was online, and that it didn’t have to take a detective or a best friend to figure that out. Tim stretched out his neck went back to focus on the screen. Thankfully, he wasn’t as bad as he used to, having a cup of freshly brewed coffee waiting for him at the side of his desk. Then, he’d never hear the end of it.
It was that kind of comfort, the same as having a hand to hold as you stared right into the eyes of an apocalypse or a face so beautiful to look at when all else around the world just seemed so wretchedly ugly, having her company even when it wasn’t to some necessary resort. She was just there, and her presence meant so much more than it should.
But he stayed calm, went on with his work, while she went over to his side looking over at the screen like it were any interesting. It wasn’t. Not for anyone who looked at excel files and felt the need to throw up.
A hand on top of his shoulder, however, loosened some tight knots on his arm, tensions he didn’t even know was there. He didn’t flinch nor move, though his fingers at the keys stopped for a moment, especially when she rubbed her palm over his clothes to ease even more of the tensions within him until he felt nothing less than jelly.
“What are you doing here?”
A snicker out of her proved she didn’t take that as much offence.
“Is it so hard to believe I just wanted to visit?”
“At this time of night?”
“Not like it’s any trouble, or the first time.”
“Last time, it was an emergency. I told you not to take cabs this late.”
“Tim, I’m fine. I just wanted to stay over.”
“And you’re welcome to, but you should have called. I’d have picked you up.”
Even if she called at five am asking him to take her out of town to pick up some paint or whatever just five minutes after his head would have hit a pillow, he’d do just that. She knew that right?
“You want me to come here less often?”
“No.” He leaned back on his chair, tipped his head up so he was seeing her face so gracefully smiling down at him. Immediately the sting on his eyelids that have long pained him since midnight have gone out the window. And with a smile, all else was as soft as the cloud at the end of some metaphorical window. “Stay. But come over when it’s still early.”
“Fine,” Y/N said. “I will.”
As if she heard his wishes for her to never take her hand off his shoulder, she listened. And she just stood there, silently at his side watching him go on about things she didn’t even understand. Or perhaps he wasn’t giving her enough credit. Either way, it was boring as hell.
Her finger tightened.
“What are you doing?”
“Just…” he shrugged. “You know. Work. You wouldn’t be wanna hear about any of this.”
“You’re right. I don’t.”
Just as he began to internally whine when she finally let go of her hold, to say he was soothed enough to close his eyes and just feel how wonderful her fingers felt, tangling themselves into the mess of his hair and drawing it to the back of his head, he didn’t want to be so obvious with his shivers, which were definitely there.
“But whatever that is,” she continued. “I promise you it’s nothing worth losing hours of sleep over.”
“I know I should listen to you more often, but trust me, I really have to get this done.”
“Really” she sneered. “Tonight, tonight?”
“Three hours ago, in fact.”
Telling her all this would be as useless as outrightly pleading that she leave him alone, which he definitely won't do, and she definitely won't listen to.
“Are you just gonna stand there and watch me work?”
“If it puts any pressure on you to just leave it and come to bed, then yes. I will.”
“You wouldn’t.”
“Want me to get a chair?”
“Don’t. Stand there. I dare you.”
“Watch me.”
Another run of her fingers through his hair and already he lost his streak of thought.
And it would have been all too painful if he went on to fight back that sneer, which he hadn’t realized had been there at all until he had to. Leaning towards his screen, fingers on the keys, he tried, with all his might, to just get this all done. Then he can stop dragging her along this nocturnal hell she’d come to adapt from him.
He kept working, and for a few minutes, he actually did get lost in it, even when he felt the back of his head being toyed around with her tying little braids over his neck, his bangs, the strands of hair that had grown too long. Hand over his mouth, he just glanced up through his side eye, and with her too engrossed on the braids she didn’t see him stop tapping altogether and watch her move.
Something he hadn’t expected, his whole body didn’t expect, or at all foresee even with the kind of intimacy he was used to, was when her hands that touched his neck, first with her measly tips of her fingers and eventually with her hands, had trailed down his broad shoulders, squeezing at the muscle and bone.
And her gentleness, the same that catered to wounds and held him like a faint, thin blanket would fall onto his skin, every hair on him raised, every part of him stiffened.
Every part of him stiffened. Not one left out.
She just went on. And on and on and on. Fingers down the sides of his neck, leaving faint white trails and nail marks down his shoulders and all the way back up his ears. His breath caught so short, every muscle in him so tense at the same time so awfully relaxed he might as well have fallen to the ground.
The thought of work didn’t dare cross his mind for a second after that. So what if he loses half a million tomorrow?
Those same hands, now squeezing the sides of his arms, were reeling him in like a caught salmon. Nothing else would have drawn him in so much, not even the devil himself. His fingers left the keyboard.
And just as he leaned back enough to startle her, Tim grabbed her wrists, pulled them across his neck so she was embracing him. Her stomach against the back of his head, and her face, like a bright yellow star smiling down at him from miles above, was looking directly below. Her smile was incomparable, even more so when she drew her hair back and the light allowed him more of her he never would have forgotten about anyway.
And he smiled back, made sure she couldn’t draw her arms away, then when she dipped down, his mouth met her cheek. She wasn’t bothered at the slightest. It only made the stretch on her cheeks from her smile more apparent.
Her hair, the sweet strands of daisies and lemon, pressed up against his skin as she leaned down, her face almost all the way down his shoulder. He held onto her arm as if to urge her to stay, to go further against him, to stand even closer so he could have even more of her than he already has, than he possibly can.
Tim stuck his nose against her scalp, just beside her ear, and breathed in. It tickled her enough to flinch, but not enough to let go of his tight hold.
It was mistake enough for him to open his eyes and repress all the other senses he had, the senses that mattered if he wanted to have her even more, he had to look onto the screen that had gone black, where it was no more than a dark mirror, one that stared back at him so painfully haunting.
He stared at her, holding him so intimately close, face stuck to his cheek and her lips leaving trails of her gentleness against his flushed skin. He stared at himself, and how he could just allow her to do all that and more, and not move so much as a finger, how he’d let her do anything to him, hurt him even, so long as she wanted him to.
How cruel she was, and how cruel he was to himself, to let her kiss and hold him like this, when they were supposed to be just friends, best friends, knowing how he felt, knowing how she affects him. How cruel of this world, and how he let those cruelties allow to consume him too much, rid him of any rational thought that when he wakes up that very morning and have to face the world again, she might end up choosing one of his brothers. How cruel it all was, for the world to let his hopes up, and for him to just let it. Allowing himself, and all others, to haul him straight to an inevitable world of hurt, and how for a few minutes of consuming bliss, having her so close to him that he could smell her hair and taste her skin, he was heading straight for that hurt himself.
Best friends don’t have boundaries, or lack of there is, like theirs. Which made all this even more painful. Best friends don’t hug and kiss and squeeze each other’s shoulders the way she just did. He should push her away, go back to work, let her sleep on his bed while he works away the night, and all this would be gone.
But all he did, regretfully, was close his eyes, eased into her like she were a bed of daisies and tulips and lilies, flowers without thorns to possibly stab him. Her lips, so gentle and soft, pressed themselves against the tip of his forehead and he felt her smile.
He kissed her wrist. Maybe it was a step too close, but that didn’t matter. He didn’t care. He’d get lost in her and tomorrow he’ll never find a way out of it, out of all this mess, but he’d have brought it to himself. For these slow-moving minutes, it might not even be worth it. But he could convince himself that it was.
“Go to bed,” he whispered, far too intimately against her ear. He felt her stiffen. Did he have to whisper? No. Was it intentional? Perhaps.
He got a giggle out of her, a tug on his hair, and even more squeezes on the spaces between his shoulder and neck. This was getting way too touchy. Even for them. She hasn’t touched him like this in years.
And still, he allowed her to.
“Don’t stay up too late.”
“I won't.”
The way her arms slid off him, even that felt so wonderful, against the clothes on his chest and the skin that seeped out his collar. His hands were reluctant to let her go, even to his own subconscious, and he only knew because the air never felt colder than when she’d fully withdrawn and no longer could he feel the heat of her chest pressed against his back.
He didn’t look up from his screen, but the work had long passed his head. He stared at it, everything this blank that couldn’t even be drawn, and let the silence overtake all thought.
.
You:
It was greatly inappropriate in just about every way imaginable.
Was it wrong to hold him like that, when not even you could talk yourself out of your own tempting voice and letting your nails dig into his shoulder, and lean in so your lips would reach his skin? Was it so over the line, a line you drew yourself that had long been vulnerable to a few slip ups?
Perhaps it was. Perhaps you were wrong that he might still want you the way you wanted him right then. Perhaps he did just want to stay friends, forever, and what you did might have been the end of all that. Start another fight, ignore each other for another few weeks.
You won't allow that. Not after your last fight, when you finally had it in you to tell him about Jason and it turns out, he already knew, the days and weeks of silence that followed after might have been the hardest to climb out of. For both of you.
But as it always has, it all fell right back into place. This place. This comfort not even the fuzz of a carpet laid in front of a nipping fireplace could give you. This place in his bed, and how you could just lay on it without a single shift in the air. How easily you just took off your prosthetic and showed him the worst parts of you, the worst parts you thought of yourself, and how he didn’t see them as the worst at all.
You truly did not deserve this kind of forgiveness, this kind of place with him, when you’ve had your share of mistakes just as much as he did. That silence that followed after reassured you that you cannot, even if you desperately tried to, live without Tim.
You laid on his bed, stripped to the thinnest clothing you had on and settled under the sheets. It wasn’t long before you heard him shut off his laptop, push back his seat. And with you facing away to the other side of the bed, you saw the lights turn off, then he got into bed beside you.
Then your eyes were on the ceiling, for you just couldn’t have the strength to face him, not when he was that close, and not when you, of all times, had doubts to go through with what you truly wanted. And what you wanted was him. After all that chaos, all that betrayal and hurt, was it right to give this one last try?
Tim was looking up at the ceiling as well, hands over his stomach. He was just as stiff as you.
But as easy as it was to forgive each other, it all molded back into this state of rightness, like this was exactly how things were supposed to be. Nothing to change. Nothing was supposed to change.
“Tim?”
“Yeah?”
His voice, even as a whisper, sounded a lot clearer with the lights off somehow. All you could see was the ceiling. You couldn’t even see his face.
“I’m sorry about everything…”
Some kind of click, but not even that could be heard. You just felt it. Somewhere. There was something about the air that was this sudden gust against your skin, up your face to let you know, much like a slap would remind you, of where you were.
“I’m sorry about… everything else...” he said.
Why wasn’t he turning over his stomach, falling asleep just as soon as his head hit the pillow just like he always does? Why was he still talking? Why was he still wide awake?
“You should sleep.”
“I’m not tired.”
That was, in all honesty, the first time you’ve ever heard him say that and sound like he genuinely meant it.
“I’m not, either,” you said. “What do you wanna talk about?”
“Maybe we should at least try to sleep.”
“That’s big of you to tell me that.”
“You’re the one who came all the way here,” he scowled.
“Fine, then if you don’t want me around-“
“Dude, come on
The snort that came out of your nose was not pretty at all, but neither was his own laugh that followed, one made even more resonant and mesmerizing to listen to with the darkness and the silence and how the only thing you could feel was how your toes were touching under the sheets.
That pulled you on your side, facing away from the boring ceiling and at the beauty that was Tim, how at the same time, he turned to face you as well. Hands tucked under your head, and his grabbing hold of the sheets, you were looking at him too obviously engrossed with that mistiness of how undeniably in love you were with him, even without so much as a touch out of your finger. You let your eyes do the touching. And with the way he looked back at you, you’d never seen a sight as perfect as his eyes. Even without much light, even with the details barely seen. You just knew he looked beautiful.
“So now you want me to come over at night and bug you at the expense of the company.”
“The company can afford the expenses,” he shrugged.
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Kind of unfair how I’m the only one to visit.”
“Your studio doesn’t exactly scream office workplace environment.”
You shoved his shoulder, right where the healing bullet wound was, and you heard him hiss. “Ass.”
“You're an ass.”
His laughter again. It was so easy to fall into and keep your silence just so you’d hear more of it each time.
He was closer to you. Somehow. Between his exchanges and the distraction of his own voice, he’d inched himself even closer. Near enough now that you could see his lips and how his breath tasted.
You just kept smiling, like it just couldn’t wear off even if you tried, and slowly you reached for the collar of his shirt, thin against his hot skin. And with that you found him staring down at your hand, watching you do just that.
“I’ll go to your place,” he sighed. “Take the work home. I’m sure they won't miss me.”
“Tim, I was kidding.”
“I’m not.”
You laughed and pushed your face against the pillow, which grazed his nose against your ear.
“Would you like that?”
“Hmm?”
A strand of your hair had fallen over your cheek. He brushed it back before you even had time to notice it was there.
“Me? Coming over to your place a lot to work?”
Your lips were dry. Your fists were not. You shouldn’t be nearly as relaxed as you are right then.
“Of course…”
“No, I mean…”
He moved, so much closer to you, then his hand was on your arm. The one right above your waist.
“I mean everyday… or at least, a lot of the time.”
His thumb, brushing over your skin. You never knew a sensation could be so addicting.
And your voice, snatched out of your throat. You never knew such a thing could happen after just a sentence.
“All those nights at the office, when I should have spent all that time with you, or even just answer your calls…”
Your own hand was against his chest now. It wasn’t pushing him away. It was just there, touching him. And you wouldn’t let it slip.
“None of it was worth it…” Again, his fingers brushed back your hair, but even after he did, he went on to hover them over your cheek. “And I was stupid enough to choose something else. But I should have chosen you. Always. Just like you’ve always chosen me.”
You swallowed and hoped it worked for the tears as well. “Tim, that was a long time ago-“
“I’ve never regretted anything more…”
Everything had stopped, even your own breath. You never thought so much could be caught at your through, especially all coherent thought. This cycle of a life, how it had all boiled down to one mistake. Finally, it came to a full circle.
“Are you okay with that?”
To have you all day? The way it was supposed to years ago? So I never would have had to lose you in the first place?
With the whole of my heart, definitely.
“I’d like that…” you said. “Very much.”
You didn’t even care if he felt you cry, with his hand over your face. This sense of security that wasn’t false in the least, this curtain you can always hide behind and fall back to when the world constantly would pull you down. It was his touch, like that very moment, that held you so gently not even a kiss from the kindest butterfly, trusting you with its fragility as it lands onto your skin could possibly compare.
You love him.
You love him.
You love him.
You cupped his face, just as his other arm snaked below your head so he was pulling you so deathly close. His strong arms now around you, encasing you in him, the way you always sought out to be held. Only with him did it feel so right. To move closer, to have your limbs tangled, to exchange breaths and look into each other’s eyes and see everything there was about him.
It took too long, possibly because all this had come too much to process, even with it so long overdue.
The harps that played beyond the sky and resonated only to you and your ears alone, it was all the more apparent, all the more did the songs of angels sing to every sense they could possibly pick up. It took too long, just staring into each other’s eyes in such darkness when you weren’t supposed to see anything at all, when your lips met.
The softness. The crashing waves. The sweet, serenity of silk. And the blow of the strongest gust of wind. It was all that at once.
.
Tim:
This was everything his dreams have come to remember and continue to remind him every time he allows himself to sleep. Her lips, her soft, perfect lips. None of what he said was a lie. None of it was worth losing this. Losing her.
Everything, the whole room, the ceiling, the sky outside his window, the floor under the bedframe, the winds even with the still air. Everything. Everything moved. Everything was spinning. Everything was revolving around them. Everything moved but time, the only one that wasn’t frantic enough to keep moving, perhaps even move faster. He could hear the seconds tick away but none of that even made it past his ear drums.
Finally. Finally.
One hand on her face, the other on her waist, Tim pulled her even closer so he’d feel her heart beat, the only thing he wanted to listen to from then on. Everything was spinning but he couldn’t care less if it was a quake in the fault lines. He was there. She was there.
Their lips moved like two petals of a single flower, moving to the wind’s blow and so delicately touching, not enough to hurt but enough to show the sheer amount of want that had long been held off.
Like everything, the whole world, no matter how much his mistakes had sought out to destroy it, to destroy everything he’s ever wanted, it was all kind enough to forgive him, to forgive both of them. Even with a world so seemingly irreparable, they were back in each other’s arms, in a hold tighter than ever before. And he wasn’t about to let go for as long he was strong enough to keep holding on.
He gently pulled away, just to look at her in the eye.
Because maybe, this was all just for the moment. Maybe this was just the world’s way of letting him know what he’ll ultimately lose and miss out on. Maybe, all this was just to last for the night, and nothing more.
But that look in her eye was unmistakable. So was the way she tugged on his hair. I love you. I want you. I’m yours. That’s what she was telling him. And it was everything he ever wanted to hear.
He kissed her again and rolled her to her back, lips pressing harder, fingers digging deeper.
This. He had her. She’d chosen him. Always and always and always. She chose him.
That spinning went on, everything around them, until the world was a blur not one of them could care less about. Everything his eyes set out to see that wasn’t her body, he ignored. The sound of her breathing and whispering against his ear, the feel of her hands roaming all over his chest. Nothing else but her and her alone. He pulled his shirt off, just as her teeth dug deep into his collarbone. Her. Her. Her.
All her clothes were on the floor. Her breathing turned to moans, which turned to screams when his hand reached down between her legs and drew the sounds out of her. Then it was his own sounds, sounds he never even heard out of himself until right then, at the sharp pain just as he was inside her. It was all too slow, rolling his hips in this pace he wanted to go faster and faster but even then, he took his time.
.
You:
In every way was it the most beautiful thing to have. To be one with him. You were one. You were beautiful. You were this infinite, untouchable being.
His teeth on your neck, biting down just to hold himself up from his own thrusts. Euphoric. Lights that flickered like strings and series. Then you tried to repress all that by kissing him. It only did so much.
You were lost, so deep into corners of rooms and halls not even the sharpest eye could find you in. This galaxy you could swim into, without a tie to confine you or a cage to hold you back. Your deepest, most carnal desires all bundled into this moment of want and eventual, satisfying end, which could only be such an end if you wanted it to be. And you didn’t want it to end. Even as you screamed his name like nothing could ever hear you. Everything in you tightened. Everything letting go of what so long was held back. All the while, your arms were around him, lips against his. He let go as well. Inside you.
Until the sun came to greet you, that night went on like it was otherwise endless. That night didn’t end the moment it was day. It ended when you say it ended.
A beginning and an ending, and only good things, as you hoped, would come after it.
And in between those wonderful sessions of love, you asked him to be yours. Forever. And a promise to no longer let go.
Lucky for you, he said yes.
.
Epilogue
Tim:
“Yeah. We can get rid of the couch. No one sits there anyway. Yes, everything goes on that side of the room.”
There were three men handling the couch. The other two were busy cleaning what used to be a cement wall and was now a glass sliding door that parted two rooms. The new tiles had just been set up, and all that was needed was furniture. Which wasn’t even much.
It was hard enough trying to ward her off with the dumbest excuses he could think of, but it wouldn’t have lasted longer than a week. Today, she comes over, with it being barely presentable. But he was too excited to hold it off even longer.
Y/N stepped into his office and almost broke the knob off after seeing the unfinished construction site of what used to be just his office.
‘What’s going on?’ She mouthed at him. He waved her to come over, and after carefully making her way across the dusty tiles, she kissed the corner of his mouth.
“You’re looking good,” he smiled.
“What’s all this?”
“Something that was supposed to be all done by today, but with the wiring problem, this is all the surprise will have to suffice.”
“Surprise?”
“Come on.”
Hand on her back, he led her to the glass door and stepped into the newly renovated room, one so bare and so empty, without a desk or a love seat in sight, she marveled all the way up to the ceiling.
“This,” he said. “Is your new studio.”
He should have pulled out his phone at the way her jaw dropped.
“My what?”
“I know what I said about working over at your place.” He held her waist, pulled her close enough so she wouldn’t shake. “But I wanted to do something for you. We can go both ways. Some days we work here and some, we go over to your house.”
“Tim, this is twice the size of my apartment.”
She probably hadn’t listened to a word he said, with her still stuck up on how high the ceiling was.
“Check out the best part.”
From his pocket, he pulled out a small remote.
What was just a wall, which led to the outside, parted into two, separate doors, and it opened into a window looking down from so immensely high up the city, with the cars below the size of matchboxes and people of ants.
“I think I just pissed myself.”
Tim laughed, again, then pulled her waist once more so she could only look at his eyes.
“I just want to be around you. Every day. I’m not letting you out of my sight anymore.”
“You’re sexy when you show off how rich you are.”
“If you said that any sooner, I’d have bought you a whole island.”
Arms encasing him close, she kissed him so perfectly like those very same petals that would have wilted without their eternal companion.
“Now come on,” she pulled away too soon and he mewled. “You promised me a ride.”
All the way to the elevator, and even within, she never loosened her hold on his hand. And she led him up the rooftop like it was her who owned the place. And that smile was palpable, the one that beamed when he watched her pull him to wherever she wanted to take him. As they opened the doors up the rooftop, already the helicopter’s propellers were whirring. She’d call them before she arrived, of course. She was too excited to waste any more time.
To reach such a high, if it were in any way something he could touch, it was her many kisses, her soft touches, her smiles and her laughs and the little details he’d never miss.
Then they soared, to such heights unexplainable.

Soulmarks, Part 4
First part
Previous
~~~
She tumbled through and cursed as they crashed onto the mats.
Chat gave a yelp of surprise.
She didn’t pay him any mind, couldn’t really. She kept her eyes on Tim. He was leaning over her, a pin between his fingers. She didn’t know what it was, but she knew it couldn’t be good as he moved to stab her with it. She kicked out against him as hard as she could.
Her soulmate went flying into the wall and she winced as it cracked around him. He slid to the ground slowly and didn’t move.
Fuck.
She walked over and pressed her fingers to his neck, sighing in relief when she felt his pulse was still there. Good, he was just knocked out, then.
But that wouldn’t last long. She quickly summoned some handcuffs. She carried him outside and cuffed him to the nearest bike rack.
She dropped down next to him and allowed herself a moment to just breathe. The past few hours had been a lot, she needed a minute.
Her eyes fluttered shut.
Just one minute…
Chat nudged her with his foot.
She peeked an eye open.
He leaned against his baton and gave her a tense smile. “Hey, so, I’d love to let you have a breather and all but our friends are kinda about to get beheaded.”
Marinette sighed and pushed herself to her feet slowly. “Right. I’d forgotten about that.”
“About the beheading --?!”
“Yeah.” She stretched. “Right, who are Bona-parts targets?”
He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “Right now he’s going after my father and me.”
“You’re all that’s left? I was only gone a few hours!”
He shrugged. “All the soldiers helped.”
“Soldiers?!”
“Yeah. He’s turned pretty much every non-rich person he’s come across into soldiers to find people.”
She looked around and a frown formed on her face. “Then… where are they?”
He hesitated. “They’re… attending an execution.”
She nodded slightly and looked for the guardian for guidance, only to wince when she couldn’t find him. “Where’s Master Fu?”
“Soldier-ized.”
“Great. This day couldn’t get any better.” She sighed. “At least the whole problem with my soulmate is over with. We can focus on the akuma.”
“Ye --.” Chat glanced over her shoulder and winced. “Um, Nette?”
She shook her head.
“But --.”
“It’s over with.”
He started to point and she shoved his hand down.
“I’m not turning to look at it. It’s over with.”
But, eventually, she turned around and a groan slipped from her lips.
Tim had broken out of the handcuffs.
Of course he knew escapology. Amazing! And of course he didn’t feel strongly enough about it either way for it to show up as a soulmark to warn her. Great! And of course he chose this time, while they were in Paris and he could get akumatized at any moment, to disappear instead of attacking them head on. Perfect!
She kicked the bike rack.
~
They perched on a rooftop by the park.
The Ladybug and Chat Noir statue was buried under bodies.
In the center, the fountain was overflowing with blood. It spilled over onto the concrete, washing over the feet of the white-clad soldiers.
As she watched, the crowd parted. A thoroughly beaten Alya and Nino were dragged to the center. They weren’t moving. She felt like throwing up. Even if they weren’t friends anymore, she didn’t want them to die. Especially not like this.
Bona-parts paraded his captives through the square before stopping at the fountain.
Marinette messed with her yoyo, looking around anxiously for something to do. If she didn’t come up with a plan quickly Alya and Nino would be beheaded and Hawkmoth would be given two miraculi.
Her mind couldn’t really concentrate on the problem at hand, though, because she kept worrying that Tim would jump out of the shadows and add to everything.
Speaking of…
Her eyes landed on Tim, who was watching the chaos from a window sill. He hadn’t noticed Chat or Ladybug yet, and he looked almost… bored? He swung his legs as he surveyed the crowd. He seemed to be waiting for something.
She felt a hand rest on her shoulder and looked at Chat.
“I’ve… got a plan for how to hold back your soulmate.”
She gave a teasing smile, because he looked far too serious for her liking. “Oh? Kitty’s got a plan for once?”
He nodded slowly and then mumbled it to her.
“That’s… how about we not do that,” said Marinette.
“Well, unless you can think of a better plan in the next ten seconds, we don’t have any other options.”
He nodded to the fountain and she cursed. Nino was being forced into a kneeling position before Bona-parts. When she looked back at Chat, he was already taking off his ring and slipping it into his pockets.
Adrien hopped down.
The akuma raised their axe to chop off Nino’s head…
“HEY!”
Bona-parts looked up and regarded his second to last target for a moment before a wide smile stretched across his face. “Turning yourself in, Adrien Agreste?”
“Something like that!” He sent a wave with a bright smile.
A soldier reached for him and he dodged their touch.
The akuma’s smile dropped.
The soldiers began surging towards her partner.
Marinette winced and hopped down, pushing her way to the center. She just had to get to Nino and grab his miraculous. That was all.
She could hear Tim hit the ground on the other side of the square -- he had no need to be quiet -- and she fought the urge to scream. Why couldn’t Bona-parts have gone with red soldiers? She stuck out like a sore thumb. Beyond that, she was fighting the crowd while Tim could easily walk with it. Why couldn’t one thing go her way?
Her eyes flicked back to Adrien, who was ducking around guards’ arms and generally making as much noise as he physically could. At least he was keeping Bona-parts and his guards distracted, she didn’t need to fight off anyone else.
She reached the center, panting softly, and looked up into Tim’s eyes. He was standing between her and Nino.
Sure. Why not?
She already knew she couldn’t beat him in a straight fight. He clearly knew it, too, if the way he hadn’t yet gotten into a fighting position was any indication…
She charged him. He looked slightly surprised for a second before quickly ducking down and bracing himself for her attack.
He used her force against her, flipping her over his shoulder.
She hit the ground behind him and felt her ankle scream in protest at the way she’d landed, but she didn’t care. She continued running, letting her adrenaline carry her. She grabbed Nino’s unconscious body and ripped the miraculous from his wrist.
She attached it to her own and mumbled a quick, “Wayzz, Tikki, unify!”
She whipped around to where Tim was advancing on her and quickly created a barrier around him.
He stopped cold and her shoulders relaxed a little. His eyes darted around the green ball she’d put him in. Good, he shouldn’t be able to do anything in there and Hawkmoth wouldn’t be able to akumatize him if he noticed him. That problem was gone --.
Her soulmate ran into the edge of the ball and rolled a few feet before coming to a stop. He considered this for a while before stepping forward and pressing against the wall with all his weight. To his delight, it rolled in her direction.
Ah. Great. Giving him a giant hamster ball to crush her with wasn’t exactly the plan, but here she was.
He started rolling towards her, getting the hang of his new weapon far too quickly for her liking, and she prepared to leap to the side at the last second.
Adrien gave a scream of pain from the other side of the park.
She watched with horror as Adrien was pinned to the ground, his leg bent at an angle it definitely shouldn’t have been able to achieve.
And then she got rolled over.
We're Worlds Apart (7)
Draco Malfoy x American No-Maj!reader
series m.list | general m.list | previous chp
warnings: none (other than blaise being jealous)
summary: Draco Malfoy is a pureblood wizard. Magic runs through his veins and has been since his birth. You're a Wiccan No-Maj; a non-magical being with ordinary blood through your veins, but practices what you call magick. And this very practice upsets your neighbor.
a/n: my workplace is under construction and i'm stressed bc i have to work around all the rubbish and it makes me stay longer when i wanna come home and write 😭 anyways, this is unedited so i'll come back to it after i clock off tonight
(gif cred)
Tumblr media
Being friends with you was kind of weird. Draco couldn't really tell you about his day because it consisted of magic nearly the entire time. He’s also at work for almost the entire week, so he wasn't really at home much.
Except for now. Draco finally had twelve days off to spend with his best mates. He had been so caught up with the chaos that surrounded him at work that he wasn't able to plan any sightseeing activities to do with them, so he just let them pick whatever it was they wanted to do.
“I could always ask Y/N what to do,” Blaise suggested. Yes, Draco hadn't forgotten the small fling between you and his best mate. Blaise would go over to your house at least three nights a week while Draco stayed overnight at Santa Marie's. Theo didn't mind being by himself and was grateful that the guest bedroom was farthest from your bedroom window. Draco was also grateful that he chose to go on nights he wasn't home; he didn't need to hear you two throughout the night.
Now that a hatchet was somewhat buried, Draco thought that asking you was a good idea. He nodded his head and headed for the door. Blaise also got up, but the both of them stopped when their hands nearly collided on the door knob. “Oh, did you want to ask her?” Blaise questioned.
“Uh… no you go. She's your…” Draco paused, “You go ahead.” Blaise gave him a weird look before walking out the door and headed to your house. Theo watched the whole thing and waited to start laughing at Draco. He glared at Nott and spat out, “What are you laughing at?”
“What was that?” Theo held his stomach as he caught his breath. “Did you want to talk to her?” Draco didn't appreciate whatever his friend was trying to say. It's just a bloody question. He sat down on the couch and picked up the Daily Prophet from Theo’s hands. He wasn't surprised to find Harry Potter in it, a column about his recent marriage with Weasley’s sister. He was surprised that they hadn't gotten married sooner.
“Do you think it's weird that Blaise is dating a muggle?” Theo asked. His face was neutral, but his tone was suggestive. Draco internalized the question. On one hand, it didn't really disturb him all that much. He was confused as to whether or not you were his girlfriend, but Blaise doesn't really talk about you too much. On another hand, he knew Blaise and even though you annoyed him – or did you? – he always took pity on any girl that mixed with Blaise. Draco didn't know what Blaise would do, but it was enough to get anyone on their knees for him in more ways than one.
“I don’t care who or what he dates,” Draco stated. Theo went to minding his business, until something caught his attention from outside. “Oh Salazar, what is he doing?” Theo’s voice was filled with amusement. Draco turned from his sitting position and saw what was happening.
Blaise was fully making out with you right on your porch. Out where anyone could watch. One of his hands were tangled in your hair while the other one was resting gently on your waist. Your hands rested shyly on his shoulders and it looked as if you were on your toes just to reach up to his height. The kiss was slow and sensual.
It was exactly what Draco needed to see. Because from that, he felt nothing at all. Just a gross feeling that he was potentially invading someone's privacy. Sure, they were outside but it still felt weird. Draco wasn't one to enjoy public displays of affection.
“Wow, he’s really milking it out. You reckon he asked her about sight-seeing?” Theo kept observing them from the window. Draco hit his head with the newspaper rolled up. Theo laughed and turned to look at the blond man next to him. “How come you’re not with anyone?”
“With where I work, do you honestly think I have time to find someone?” Draco sassed as he continued reading. Dating was the last thing on his mind. He was too focused on work to even flirt with another woman. Pansy was the last person Draco had ever dated. He was meant to be betrothed to Astoria Greengrass, but Draco declined and started his path to becoming a healer. He also didn't want to be in a marriage knowing he couldn't genuinely love her.
Moving to America, he never found anyone interesting. Ashley was nice but not only was she already married, she was married to a woman. Other women in the department, or hospital as a whole, took an initial liking to Draco, but he figured it was solely due to the fact that he’s a foreign British man with an accent. After a month of women flirting with him, it died down almost completely and everyone treated him as normal which pretty much confirmed it to him. Would Draco like to date someone? Absolutely. But right now, he was perfectly happy being by himself.
Theo knew Draco enough to know when he was fibbing and this wasn't one of those times. He was glad to see Draco be okay with himself after all this time. He remembers the constant need of validation during their days at Hogwarts. And it was because of a certain wizard who Draco was always competing with. Now as for Theo, he had been out of the dating scene for a while and he was nearly desperate to get laid.
He dropped the topic and got up to take a short nap in the guest room. A few moments later, Blaise was knocking on the door. Draco got up to open it and was caught by surprise to see you standing behind Blaise. You looked like you weren't really sure what you were doing there either. “Mate,” Blaise started off, “what if we brought her along with us?”
You blinked at the tall man standing in front of you and then looked at Draco who had the same facial expression. “Who else better to show us around than someone who actually lives here?” Blaise suggested. It made sense; you would know your way around and Draco could save himself the trouble of not only Blaise and Theo being lost, but also Draco also getting lost. He still had a hard time with some of the streets. One-way streets, round-a-bouts, and bike lanes were still new to him. And you once mentioned how Manhattan was worse than the streets here in Buffalo, so how would he deal with that?
You stood unusually quiet. Blaise had only just asked you to tag along with them and before you could even process the question, you were being dragged to Draco’s house. “I don’t know, I don't want to intrude on–”
“Nonsense, you’d be our guide. I highly doubt Draco knows where he’s going,” Blaise assured. He got a stern ‘Hey’ from the blond but ignored it. “What do you say? Come with us?” You looked back and forth from the both of them and settled on Draco, your eyes asking him if he would even want you there. He shrugged his shoulders, leaving it up to you.
“Uh, sure. I’d just have to fix my schedule and–” you started before Blaise cut you off, “Great! We leave tomorrow at seven in the morning.” He kissed your forehead and walked inside. Draco stood at the door and was still confused as to what just happened. You started to walk away before Draco asked you, “Should we take my car?” You turned around and thought about it. “If you want.”
Draco preferred it, so he just agreed to it. “I’ll see you tomorrow, then.” You smiled sheepishly and raised your hand to say 'bye’. Tomorrow was surely going to be… something.
You were hoping to be able to rest your head on Blaise’s shoulder for the ride to the airport. But here you were, in Draco’s car with the largest cup of coffee that was barely keeping you awake as you drove there. You were glad that Draco had common sense to book two flight tickets for everyone to go there because there was so way in hell you were going to drive six hours to Manhattan and another six back.
Theo, however, was resting his head on Blaise’s shoulder as he snored away during the short ride. Blaise tried to shove him off, but it turned out that the sleepy friend was heavier than he looked. It was funny, really. Draco sat in the passenger seat next to you on his phone trying to read out directions. You insisted you didn't need them, but he said they were more for himself when they come back home.
Once on the plane, you finally got some shut eye. You stayed up all night thinking about what to do for the day. Where to go, what to eat, what to see. And other things kept you up, but that's besides the point. During the security check, you had to hold your laughter. It was hilarious to watch the three men be so confused as to what was going on. They acted like it was their first time in an airport.
The seats you had were nice and surely expensive. Draco insisted that you didn't have to pay him back. Must be nice being rich you thought. Blaise looked at you and poked your nose, “Is someone sleepy?” You glared at him before laying back into your seat, “Maybe if you didn't keep me up all night, I wouldn't be tired.” You didn't know how the man could have this much energy in the morning.
The hour went by quick and you were in Manhattan by ten in the morning. You suggested a local diner that was near the airport which they all agreed to since they didn't know their way around. At the diner, Blaise and Theo had made a dash for the restroom. You laughed at the view of Theo pushing Blaise behind him and Blaise glaring at him as he smacked the back of his head.
“I swear, they’re still childish gits,” Draco groaned. “26 years old and they still don't grow up.” You nudged his arm from across the table. “Leave them be. They’re still young, and so are you. Let loose, we’re in New York City after all. Can’t be brooding the whole time.” Draco rolled his eyes and looked at the menu that was under the glass on the table.
A waitress came up to your table with a small clipboard and notepad. “Are you two ready to order?” she asked sweetly. “Not yet, we’re waiting on two people to come back,” you answered. “Oh that’s cute, is this a double date?”
Without hesitation, you and Draco stated at the same time, “We’re not together.” The waitress looked between the two of you and just nodded. “I’ll be back, then.” The both of you hadn’t said a word when she left and patiently waited for his friends to come back. Shortly after, they did. Blaise took the spot in the booth next to you and Theo next to Draco.
“Alright, what do you suggest I get?” Blaise asked you. He had his body slightly facing yours and an arm over the top of the seat around you. He hadn't bothered to look on the menu and just focused on your features. “Depends, what do you like?”
“Anything,” he lowered his voice and was close to your ear. The breath tickled your ear which made you giggle. “Okay, we get it. You two are cute. Now keep it down, I’d like to be able to digest this food,” Theo’s nose crinkled as he complained. You still didn't know Theo all that much. This morning, he walked like a zombie and he probably just became fully awake, so to see his best friend making kissy faces at you before his first meal wasn't an ideal way to start the day. Draco chuckled in his seat as he was still figuring out what to order.
“I have to make a quick call,” you announced before pulling out your phone and called one of your employees, “Were you able to open fine on your own? Okay, call me if anything happens. Okay, bye.” The waitress came back and took down the order after she set a pot of coffee for the four of you.
Theo was the first to say something, “So, Y/N is it?” You nodded in response as you took a sip from your mug. “What is it that you do in your free time? Other than Blaise, of course.” He had a smug smile watching as you blushed. Two seconds later, the table shook and Theo groaned in pain. Unbeknownst to you, both Blaise and Draco had kicked Theo in his shins.
“Stupid git,” Draco said under his breath. Theo glared at his friends as he rubbed his legs. You cleared your throat and started to speak before Blaise stopped you, “You don’t have to answer that.”
“It’s okay, he was just joking,” you defended. “No he wasn't,” Draco added. You ignored him and looked at Theo, “What do you want to know?”
He had your full attention and ignored the looks from his friends, “What do you do for a living? What’s your work like?”
“Well, I uhh,” you started, “I own a store downtown. I’m there almost everyday.”
“What kind of store is it?” Theo asked as he leaned over the table closer to you. “What do you sell?”
“Candles,” for the second time that day, you and Draco synchronized. “Yeah, I sell candles and little… knick knacks,” you still hadn't opened up to Draco or Blaise for that matter about your Wiccan activities. So to say that you sold sage bundles, specially made oils and healing crystals would raise questions you weren't ready to answer now.
“Draco, have you ever been to the place? What is it called, by the way?” Theo kept on. Blaise was certainly not kidding when he said that Theo loved to talk. “No, I haven't,” Draco answered. “It’s called Soul Beads, wasn't it?”
“Yeah, that’s the name.” The food was brought on a large tray. Blaise handed your plate to you and you grabbed your fork to dig in. He was eating slowly, looking as if he was thinking about something. “Hey, you okay?” you whispered to him, Draco and Theo having their own conversation. “Oh, uh, yeah. I’m fine, love,” Blaise continued eating at a faster pace now. You looked around the men that surrounded you and smiled. Today’s gonna be fun.
The day went… weird. Blaise tried to have as much fun as possible but something was bothering him. Was it Theo talking his head off the entire time? No, I’m used to that. Was it his legs tired after walking almost all day? No, not that. Was it how even though you held his hands the whole time and gave him occasional kisses on his cheek or lips, you had gone the entire day talking to Draco and shared a couple laughs with him? Absolutely.
Jealousy was always an ugly emotion to Blaise. It annoyed him during his time at Hogwarts, and it annoys him now. The way girls would ask him if he was messing around with other girls and he’d always say the same thing. “How could I when you’re the most beautiful girl in these halls?” They’d all swoon over it. And by the looks of it, you swooned over his every word as well. But the looks you gave him were different from the ones you gave Draco.
From all the letters he had gotten from Draco, Blaise knew how much he hated you. No, loathed. But after the two of you decided to make nice, it was like you had been friends since day one. Draco may have even looked comfortable talking to you. And it bothered Blaise. His time with you may have been short, but today made him realize something.
Blaise is nowhere near being in love, he knew that much. But he knew that he didn't want to be messing around anymore. He wants to have an actual relationship, and right now, he wanted it with you. Blaise was confused by it all. He should be happy that his best friend and a girl he likes gets along. It would make it all that much easier.
But something about the two of you was odd today.
Maybe there was a look that lasted too long. Or a tone that came out differently. Or maybe… no. Blaise knew what it was. He just wants to have that same friendship with you. Blaise still didn't know that much about you. He didn't even know you had your own store until that morning. And to hear that his friend who supposedly hates you even knows not only the name of the store, but what you sell, hit something in him.
So, he was going to change that. Because for the most part, you were pretty interesting. He knew you were a Wiccan and as much as he doesn't really care to know what it was all about – considering he can just do any magic with a flick of a wand – he’d at least know you a little better.
Momentarily, as he was deep in thought, Theo’s annoying voice popped in his head. Hey, at least you know her in a way Malfoy won’t. He mentally cringed at it for a second before he thought Wait. I do. It was a start, not one that someone usually prefers, but it was better than nothing.
You sat beside him on the ride back home and had a smile on your lips while you rested on him. Draco was driving and Theo wanted to raise the volume of the music but his hand was slapped away. “She’s sleeping, idiot.” Draco scolded.
“Merlin, look at this,” Theo looked at Blaise as he pointed to Draco’s face. “Malfoy caring for a muggle? I’ve seen everything now.”
“M-muggle?” You rubbed your eyes and yawned. The three Slytherin’s had wide eyes, Blaise cursing Theo with his eyes. “I've heard,” you let out another yawn, “Draco say that before.”
Merlin, how many times have these actually talked? Blaise thought. “I-it’s just slang from London,” he tried to cover up. You nodded your head and gave him a gentle kiss on the cheek before going back to sleep.
Once everyone was home, Blaise walked you to your door. “I had fun today, did you?” Blaise gave his most convincing smile, “Yeah, I did.”
You said ‘Good night’ and almost closed the door when he stopped you. “Is it alright that I stay with you tonight?”
“I'm kind of tired, maybe tomorrow–”
“No, not for that,” Blaise chuckled at your insinuation. You looked slightly surprised. And it made sense considering that's almost all he came over for. Nonetheless, you let him into your home. Blaise stayed true to his words and just laid beside you in bed until the two went to sleep.
In his own bedroom, Draco smiled as he thought about the fun day he had. Maybe being friends with you wasn't so bad. He went to his kitchen to grab a drink when he noticed there was one person missing. “Where's Blaise?”
“I think he's staying at Y/N’s,” Theo stated. Inside, Draco felt an unusual pang in his chest. He let it go and went to bed. Hopelessly trying to get out of his head whatever you two were up to.
☆ [nostalgic] summer romance!au taeyong  hbbd to our beloved leader! | find others here: johnny | haechan | taeil
mark is giving you a quizzical look from over the counter, fingers tapping against the register
“taeyong? no, i haven’t seen him. doesn’t he usually disappear during the summer?
mark is right
taeyong does tend to vanish just as the weather gets warmer and there isn’t an excuse of class or work for him to make his presence known
you heard rumors about how his parents send him abroad to some kind of family owned estate, vast and beautiful and far away from the mundane place you call home
everyone is always saying he’s hiding something. that something, everyone whispers is money
he has to be rich, no one else has the kind of luxury of having a summer long holiday to the other side of the world
but you doubt it, if his family is so loaded, taeyong wouldn’t be spending the rest of the year sitting across from you in physics
you’re sure wealthy kids can afford something better than public schools
“actually......”
you look up and mark takes of the uniform hat he’s supposed to wear for his job at the local burger joint, he scratches the top of his head and then snaps his fingers
“i did see him not too long ago, maybe - on monday? he was standing next to his bike in front of the trails.”
“as in the forest trails?”
mark nods, he looks like he wants to say something else but the voice of his manager makes him scurry to the back with a final a wave
you take the medium soda you ordered, the ice melted and the cup wet under your fingertips
whats taeyong doing going to the mountains all alone?
its getting dark by the time you make your way halfway through the trail, you know mark said he saw taeyong monday and its been three days since then
but you just wanted to make sure, even though you’re here and you haven’t seen one other person through the trees
finally you think you should turn around and go back - but you look to the side and spot a bike leaned up against a mossy, large boulder
its off the trail - so its kind of creepy - but you inch just a bit closer, close enough to see taeyongs name scribbled on the middle bar, below the seat
the clouds are slowly and surely coming in over the light blue sky, so now its just going to get dark and rain
but you think just exploring for another five or so minutes cant hurt
you push past some bushes and wander until you finally pull back some branches from a sagging old willow and see the entrance to a small, but open meadow
in the middle of it - someone is splayed out and reaching up toward the sun
“t-taeyong?”
his hand drops and turns his head, the last droplets of sunlight flicker off his skin
he doesn’t say anything for a while and neither do you
until he sits up and asks you what you’re doing off the trail
you know you can ask him the same thing, but something stops you from stringing the sentence together
instead you feel the darker clouds grow heavy in the sky and soon enough you feel the drizzle
“i just got lost’
you lie and taeyong stands up from the meadow, pointing behind you
“we should go before the storm comes all the way in.”
taeyong leads the way back to the main path, grabbing his bike as you two make way back down to the opening of the forest
you sort of fall behind him, eyes on the broad of his back
you want to make conversation - but you dont know what to say
once you reach the end, the rain has gotten stronger and you ask taeyong if he wants you to drive him back to his place
motioning shyly to your car
he smiles, and even through the darkening weather, it seems to make his face glow
“that’s alright, thanks.”
and then he hops on his bike, his figure smaller and smaller as he rides down the road
you watch it, getting drenched in the process, but something about seeing him makes the rain feel like nothing more than morning dew
you go back to the meadow the next day, earlier - closer to noon - and taeyong is there
at first you tell yourself: stop being weird, just turn around and leave him alone. you might have had classes with him but its not like you two were even friends! hes going to think you’re crazy for showing up here again!
but something inside you refuses to let you give up
you clear your throat and call out to him
taeyong doesn’t turn his head this time, in fact he doesn’t move from where he’s flat on his back in the middle of the grass and wild flowers
panic sets over you and you rush over, knees hitting the ground as you hover over him
his eyes are closed, but the corner of his mouth twitches a bit at the small sound that you make
he’s just sleeping.
you realize, tracing the godly lines that make up his almost impossibly handsome face
he manages to look magical even like this.
“hello?”
taeyong’s eyes are open now - lazily, amber browns staring up at you curiously
you jerk your head away and feel your shoulders stiffen
what do i say? what do i do? he must think im such a freak-
“are you lost again?”
his sits up, propping himself on his elbows and looking at you innocently
“n-no! i just - i um - since i know the way now. i mean i saw your bike again. i just - um-”
the words get tangled in your mouth and so you give up and taeyong doesn’t look as annoyed or as angry as you expect
he just smiles, the same smile he gave you when you two parted ways last night
“a-are you always here?”
you blurt out, trying to compensate for your lack of an answer to his original question
taeyong nods, “i am always here.”
“everyone thinks you go abroad during the summer, b-but you’re really here right?”
its weird that you pose it like a question, so you laugh it off in hopes he wont catch on
but taeyong turns his eyes back toward the sun and falls back against the pillow of flowers
“nope, i dont go abroad. im right here.”
you look up at the sky, nothing special about it, just bright and blinding like any summer days
you wonder how he doesnt get bored just ........... laying here and looking up at it
“people in town like it though.”
he suddenly adds and you shift so instead of sitting back on your heels, you’re laying down beside him
its the closest you’ve ever been to him and you have half a thought he might shift away uncomfortably when your elbows brush but ..... he doesnt
“like what?”
he pauses, a long pause and you almost think he isnt going to answer as your eyes trace the wings of a butterfly that pass by
“they like that i disappear. i think they like it better when im not around.”
you sit up, confused and look at taeyong
“but people are always talking about you-”
“right, but i dont think that means they like me.”
he follows the same butterfly you were just looking at and you try to think of a counterpoint to argue
but you cant
taeyong is the most talked about person in your town, from his statue like looks to the rumors circulating about his familys wealth
but
youve heard the jealousy-induced whispers too
you cant lie and say you havent
you carefully lay back down and take a second in the silence of the forest to think
“i like you.”
you hear taeyong turn his head but you’re nervous about saying it outloud and so you can’t bring yourself to read the expression he might be making
“i dont know much about you, but .......... i think i like you. we had one class together last semester, physics and you would always help me and other people. sometimes i wanted to ask if you wanted to come with me to go get lunch but i was-”
you’re rambling, your aware so you stop
but taeyong whispers,
“but you were?”
now you turn to look at him and you’re surprised to see the usual glassy far-off look in his eyes has turned serious
“i was sc-scared? i just thought you wouldnt care to ......... hang out with me?”
you think your palms are sweating and you hide them in your pockets, taeyong is looking at you - really looking at you - for the first time ever and it stirs a feeling youre not used to in the pit of your stomach
“i would have loved to.”
his voice is faint, but there’s no one else but you and him, so you hear him clearly
you giggle, a nervous habit, and then swallow it down
“well - now i know. ill invite you when- when the summer is over.”
he turns back and closes his eyes, the sun basks down on him like the grace of a goddess
nothing else is said. when it starts to darken, and your hungry stomach makes a noise that keeps you embarrassed
you and taeyong walk back down the trail. you offer him a ride again, but he says now and rides off with a smile
you get into this habit now, you get to the meadow - earlier and earlier - hoping one day to beat taeyong to it
but he’s always there before you
you also start bringing lunch and when you first offer half of the sandwich you’ve made to taeyong he looks too shy to take it
but on the third try, he gives in
you also..................talk a lot more with him
and realize you were right, taeyong is as kind as you had thought him to be
and his gentleness isnt lost on you from how he helps you up from the grassy meadow when its time to go - to how he talks in a small voice to forest creatures that scamper past you two
you never thought you’d end up spending your whole summer off the trail, laying around beside lee taeyong
but not a day of it feels wasted, even though you both do ultimately nothing
one evening, as you’re walking down the trail, you both come to a stop in front of the mossy rock that taeyong’s bike should be leaned up against
except that its gone
and for the first time - due to circumstance - taeyong accepts the ride back home
the car is quiet, as are the streets that you drive through to get to his house
suddenly, without any thought you ask taeyong;
“do you sometimes go up to the meadow because you want to disappear?”
you glance at him in the rearview mirror and see hes already looking at you
“not just because you think others want you too?”
his lips thin, but his eyes don’t flatter from yours
“yes.”
you nod, shoulders tightening a little as you focus your own gaze on the road
“a-are you ok with my company?”
you make a turn and are worried by the silence that follows. taeyong’s house is coming into view and you realize he could just get out without answering you
but when you come to a stop, neither of you moves a muscle
you let your hand drop from the wheel and just as it does, taeyong catches it
his fingers are warm and his palm is soft you let out a small gasp and turn to see he still has his eyes on you
“im fine with it.”
a dust of pink comes over the bridge of his nose and spreads down onto his cheeks
“im fine disappearing with you. no one said i had to do it alone.”
that feeling in the pit of your stomach that you get around him sometimes seems to bubble and burst into a flurry storm of wings and glitter inside you
your eyes move on their own, skimming down his face to his lips in an anxious line
holding his hand is different from all those times you’d lay elbow to elbow with him
and thinking about kissing him..................is a jump over a fence higher than just the thoughts youve had about getting to know him better
you think your shoulders shake and taeyong looks like he wants to lean in
but the lights on his porch flicker on, and he says he’ll see you tomorrow
his warmth leaves your hand, but right as he steps out of the car, you scramble over to the passengers seat
one hand on the window and you look at him
“h-how will you get to the meadow, without your bike?”
he startles, but frowns
“right,i think i can walk ther-”
“i can pick you up.”
taeyong smiles, this smile - as soft and as sweet as the rest - is just a bit more......happy.
“ok - can you come by at around nine?”
“i promise to be here.”
he hesitates and you cant believe you’re about to say this, but you do
“want to seal it with a kiss?”
he looks over his shoulder, his front door hasnt opened yet
he leans down and its a little awkward and weird, but its cute and when you break away you wave goodnight to him
and he trips over the sidewalk as he waves back
the next day, when you two are laying back in the flowers
you turn to him
“is it ok if we re-do our kiss?”
he laughs, “i wanted to ask too, kissing through a car window is a bit-”
you dont let him finish, rolling over to take his face in your own - you feel that smile of his on your lips
when summer comes to an end and taeyong shows back up in town, everyones gossip stirs back up
where’d he go this time, franc? italy? thailand? australia?
no, the only place he went - you want to tell them - is to the forest, and to that meadow, and to the center of your heart
you slip your hand into his when he comes to greet you outside one of the classroom
and all of the gossip dies at the tip of peoples tongues
even now all these years later
when you and taeyong want to “disappear” for a little while
there’s a secret space, just for you two
let everyone else think you’re off in some other place - some other country - some other continent
disappearing together, is way better than disappearing alone.
The glass felt cold underneath the pad of her finger as she drew a smiley face in the condensation that formed from the cold strawberry milkshake in it’s contents. The milkshake was the same shade as the jumper she was wearing and it made her smile slightly. Her mother had said that the jumper she was wearing was pink, so was the milkshake the same colour? Betty glanced around the diner she’d been sat in for almost five minutes and tried to pick out other items that were the same shade. Other people’s drinks, the napkins on her table, the shirt that Dilton Doiley was wearing in a booth down the row from hers. Could they all be the same colour? Hopefully, Betty thought to herself, she would find out later that day, as it was her seventeenth birthday.
Seventeen was a big age, probably the biggest birthday anybody could have. From your seventeenth birthday, you could find your soulmate. There was no missing who it was, when you laid eyes on them the usually black and white world would suddenly turn into bright colours - how things were supposed to be seen. Some people were lucky enough to meet their soulmate on their birthday, some spent years searching for theirs, and an unlucky few spent their whole life in black and white.
Betty Cooper was both excited and unhappy on her seventeenth birthday. Of course being able to find her soulmate was exciting, but the person who she thought it would be had already had their birthday, and still hadn’t found their soulmate. Which meant it wasn’t her. Jughead still saw black and white which meant it was someone else. Maybe it was wrong to have a crush on him as she knew it could never work out, but she was still a little disappointed.
Jughead had been her best friend for years, and they were practically inseparable. When Betty and Jughead were children and had to learn about soulmates for the first time, everything sounded so familiar to her. The way that a connection with a soulmate was described, sounded like what she had with Jughead. Betty could remember bouncing in her seat excitedly as she gently grabbed his arm, a huge grin painted over her lips as she told him ”we’re soulmates, Juggie!”. Looking back on their friendship, now that she was seventeen, it really did seem like Jughead was her soulmate. Maybe it was just what Betty wanted to believe, blinded by her crush on him, but it really felt like they were. Betty felt different when she was with Jughead, different like nobody else could make her. They connected so well and went together as a matching set, like their souls were crafted together. His touch sent butterflies exploding through her body and his words could send chills down her spine, in the best way possible.
But he wasn’t her soulmate. He was somebody else’s.
Just as she was thinking of her best friend, two larger hands covered her eyes so she couldn’t see, and initially she gasped in surprise, though upon realising who it was Betty smiled fondly and gently bit her bottom lip for a moment. She could feel his slightly calloused fingertips pressing into the bridge of her nose and felt the cold metal of one of his rings along her cheekbone which caused her to smile a little more. Bety had always been a fan of Jughead’s rings. He would let her sit and gently mess with his fingers sometimes if they sat together, and she always found herself gently twisting his rings around his fingers.
“Guess who?”
“Veronica?” Betty asked jokingly, and giggled quietly when she felt his huff of faux annoyance hit the back of her head, pushing forwards her - for once - loose blonde strands slightly with the breath.
“Happy birthday,” He told her and Betty smiled a little more. “I have a surprise for you, but you need to promise me you won’t freak out, okay?”
Betty frowned a little, puzzled on what he could have gotten her that would make her freak out. “Jug, if you got me another one of those fake bug tricks to scare me it’s not funny-”
“No, no I haven’t gotten you one of those.” Jughead scoffed, and she could practically hear his eyes rolling as he spoke. “I just need you to promise me you won’t freak out.”
“Okay, Jug, I promise.” Betty smiled and nodded her head a little, as much as she could with his hands still covering her eyes.
Jughead’s hands were still covering her eyes for another moment, almost like he was hesitating, before he pulled them away and she heard him step backwards on the tiled floor. Betty blinked for a moment to adjust her eyes to the light of the room now that she could see before she stood up and turned to face Jughead with a smile. Her eyes met his and she saw-
Blue.
Betty’s eyes widened as her heart started hammering in her chest, her sight almost smacking her in the face as she watched as vibrant and new colours bled into everything she could see. She watched in shock as his jacket turned into a checkered red and black that she could only have guessed about its colours before. Navy blues faded into his shirt as his skin faded from it’s usual grey into a warm olive tone that caused her to swallow harshly. Betty hadn’t even looked anywhere else in the room yet. She was just looking at him. Betty had always imagined seeing colours for the first time to be a magical moment. She had imagined turning in a circle and watching as colours blended into anything and everything around her. But Betty wasn’t focused on anything else but Jughead. He was beautiful.
As all of the colours blended into her sight and the plain black and white faded away, at first she hadn’t thought of what it meant. But after a moment she felt a burning along her waterline as her bottom lip trembled, her emotions crashing into her almost as hard as the colours had just done.
It was him.
Jughead was her soulmate.
Jughead, her best friend. The person who had been there for her more than anyone else. The boy who was there the first time she rode her bike without training wheels. The boy who had offered to be her date to her first school dance when Archie had gone with a cheerleader. The boy who she had been falling deeper and deeper in love with for what felt like forever. It had been him all along. The thought alone made her giddy, and it wouldn’t have surprised her if her legs gave out there and then.
“Betty,” Jughead visibly swallowed. Betty had never seen him so nervous in her life. “Surprise.” He smiled sheepishly, his lips curving upwards in the most beautiful smile she had ever seen.
It took Betty a moment to even just remember how to move, but once she could her lips curved upwards into a bright and emotional smile as she closed the few feet between them and flung herself at him, tears spilling down her cheeks as she held onto him. Jughead’s arms secured around her waist and kept her held close to him as she started crying, not able to control the overflow of emotions.
“Oh my god,” Betty whispered, just holding onto Jughead tighter, almost as if he would disappear if she were to let go. It was unbelievable, now that she thought about it. Jughead had told her that he hadn’t seen his soulmate before, so how could she be his? “You- you said you hadn’t- we-”
“Betty slow down,” Jughead stopped her rambling with his hands resting on either side of her face which he used to gently pull her back so he could look at her. “I didn’t tell you because I wanted you to find out yourself.” He smiled fondly as he ran his thumb along her cheekbone, causing Betty to relax slightly as she leaned into his hand. “You’d always spoken about how magical it would be to find out who your soulmate was on your birthday, and it would kind of ruin the surprise if you knew who it was.”
Betty’s smile only widened at his words, a soft expression masking her features. He had waited months to tell her so she could experience everything herself. It meant more to her than he probably thought, that he was willing to let himself wait until she knew herself. It made warmth spread through her chest to know just how much he cared about her and her happiness. Nobody had ever cared about her as much as Jughead, not even Veronica - although her best girl friend was a close contender behind him. Standing in front of him then, standing close enough to notice just how blue his eyes were and how the freckles on his nose dotted about, everything felt right. She was sure about her feelings towards Jughead, and now that she knew he had the same ones it almost made her start crying again. It was a lot to take in - but it was good.
Without even thinking about it Betty lifted her own hands up to grip the fur lining of his collar and she tugged him closer, impossibly closer, until her nose was pressed to his and she could feel his breath shake as it fanned out across her face. Her eyes fluttered closed and she could hear Jughead whisper her name, quiet enough for her to doubt whether he had actually spoken or not, before she leaned the rest of the way and closed the gap between them to press her lips against his.
Her mind spun into overdrive as soon as he had pulled her closer with a hand on the side of her neck, and in that moment her legs almost did give out. She was kissing Jughead. She was doing the one thing she had believed would never happen over the past few months, no matter how much she wanted to. Butterflies swarmed around her stomach and she could feel a blush rising to her cheeks though she didn’t care at all. She was kissing Jughead.
All of the air seemed to leave her lungs as he pulled away, as if he had stolen it from her through the kiss. Betty smiled almost giddily as her eyes fluttered open to look at him again. His expression wasn’t so different from hers as she felt his hand move back to her cheek, and she had to refrain from kissing him again as the pad of his thumb circled her pink cheek again.
“I love you, Betty.” Jughead whispered, and Betty’s heart almost stopped.
It took her a moment to even comprehend what he had said, lost in the blue eyes she couldn’t look away from, though her smile grew even wider than before as she lightly kissed him again for another moment before she pulled away to whisper four words.
“I love you too.”
Jughead’s expression lit up just as her’s had done a moment before and she couldn’t help but stare. He was so gorgeous, especially when he smiled. Just the sight of him took her breath away. Though her eyes closed as she felt his arms pull her into a hug and she relaxed into him as she hugged him back gently. Jughead had hugged her many times before, though none felt as perfect as that one. It was warm and welcoming and loving.
“You didn’t have to wait to tell me, you know.” Betty whispered into his shoulder, her eyes fluttering when he had lifted his hand to gently run his fingers through her hair.
“I know, but I wanted it to be special for you.”
Betty smiled fondly and nodded, pressing a kiss to his shoulder through his jacket as she smiled. “Is that why you were acting so weird on your birthday?” She could remember it clearly, how he was constantly zoning out in conversation and was distracted the whole time. At first she had assumed it was just because he didn’t like his birthday, but this made more sense.
“Yeah,” Jughead whispered and nodded. “It was a weird day.”
Shooting Stars (Din Djarin x F!Reader) Pt. 1
Tumblr media
A/N: Okay it’s finally here! I’m so excited for this fic, I’m also excited for y’all to read this fic.
Warnings: MODERN!AU, none
Words: 2.2K
Summary: A new professor has been hired at your work seemingly out of the blue.
Master List
September
Dust-filled rays of golden hues shone brightly throughout the large teachers lounge as you sat there, sipping your morning coffee. The room was empty, save for your sitting figure. You typically got to work early, liking the quietness of the space before the other professors and staff would arrive. It gave you time to wake up, as well as prep for the upcoming day. You would do it in your classroom, however, you shared it with the night school teacher and she doesn't leave until it’s time for your first class of the day.
The school you teach at is a community college, but only a two year institution. It’s quite small, one of the smallest in the state, due to how lowly populated the surrounding cities are. You enjoy it, it gives you a chance to form personal relationships easier. Plus the simpleness of a small town has always intrigued you.
You moved to the low-populated city shortly after graduating and getting your bachelors degree just seven years ago. You got your job as the Film and Literature professor for both grades shortly after and wouldn’t change it for the world, having taught here for six years now. You love your students, and the curriculum, and you’ve also made friends with the other long-time staff.
The school year just started, actually. You're only two weeks into the semester. The beginning of the year always had a bit of magic to it. Students actually want to be here and teachers aren't so crabby. There's a collective togetherness felt across the whole campus for the first month or so, it's the highlight of the year.
“Here again early?” The voice of your colleague startled you, prompting you to spill some coffee over the papers you’d been grading.
“Shit,” You muttered, quickly trying to dab away the liquid, “Uh, yeah, I always do.” You chuckled, shrugging away the situation. You looked up to see who’d entered the room and smiled, noting it was one of your close work friends, Omera. The woman has worked here for almost as long as you, having started two years after. She isn't a teacher, instead she works in the office as a secretary. Omera also has a ten year old daughter, and is an amazing single mother. You've met her child, Winta, a few times in the past. You two became friends quickly, finding out you had many things in common.
“I prefer the extra twenty-five minutes of sleep.” She chuckled lightly, padding over to the old coffee machine. You always made sure to brew a full pot, as you were usually the first person to make any. You nodded towards her with a quieted snort, rolling your eyes, before looking back down at the work in front of you.
“Oh, did you hear? Dean Karga hired a new Astronomy teacher.” She smirked, pouring the coffee into a cup as she leaned against the cabinets. “I got a peek of him after his interview,” She paused to throw away the stir stick and trot over, sitting at the small table to join you, “And he’s cute.”
“I didn’t hear,” You raised your brow, “We’re two weeks into the year, why hire him late? Is he new in town?” Your curiosity peaked as you gawked at the woman for answers.
“I don’t know.” Omera shrugged, taking a sip of the hot liquid, “Could be. But anyways, the Dean is going to introduce him during the morning meeting.”
“Oh maker, I remember when he did that with me.” You chuckled, shaking your head. Every new member of staff got introduced to the others by the Dean. Greef tries to be a comedian during, but it always ends up being an awkward stand up set with no laughter and scoffs of pity.
“I guess we’ll see what happens.” Omera smirked, “Oh, and I heard he’s single.” She added with a tap to your arm. The woman knows that you haven't dated in a while; you just haven't been trying.
“Oh, I don't know…” You trailed off, shaking your head. You didn't have time to think about that. You had more pressing things to worry about like your job, and...
“Just see how it plays out.” The secretary pleaded softly, prompting you to finally cave. She gave a small cheer of delight, her excitement rolling off her thin figure in waves.
-
It took another half an hour before most of the staff finally arrived, just in time. The morning meetings always took place twenty minutes before the starting bell, leaving enough room to cover current topics and get to your classroom.
With the teachers lounge packed as tightly as could be, the Dean finally stepped into the space. Following behind him was, who you could only assume, the new Professor. You didn’t catch a great glimpse, as someone partially blocked your vision, but from what you saw you were intrigued.
“Alright, alright everyone.” Dean Karga’s voice dispelled the murmurs of the room, making it deafeningly quiet. The only sound you could hear was the chattering of students walking the halls outside. You glanced at Omera beside you, her eyes fixated on the new teacher next to the Dean. Scooting slightly until your view wasn't blocked, the mysterious man finally came into view.
You couldn't stop the butterflies from fluttering in your belly, the man in your vision causing them. The Dean’s words melted away, your head becoming fuzzy as you looked at the new teacher. He was handsome, to say the least. He donned a brunette mop of loose, curly hair, and stubble to match. He was broad, the light gray suit he donned only making him look more so. He stood with his hands on his hips, gaze scanning the room when he unsuspectedly locked sight with your own.
Time froze for a moment as his dark eyes peered, your heart gaining speed and your breath catching in unison. Though looking at each other in a crowded room, you felt as though you were the only two. You could've sworn he gave you a gentle nod and a grin, but it felt hazy.
When you finally blinked and looked down, you noted how warm your cheeks had gotten. You felt flustered, the hot rush of adrenaline coursing through your veins and warming up your cold hands. You kept your gaze on the floor ahead of you, trying to steady your racing heart. It was silly to be so flustered over a look, but you haven't experienced that in years.
“And this is our new Astronomy Professor, Din Djarin,” Karga’s words floated back in and you furrowed your brow, trying desperately to ignore the man beside him. The crowd murmured greetings towards the man in the light gray suit, and you felt Omera’s elbow poke your side. Looking towards her, she held a smug expression only fueling the heat in your cheeks.
“Okay, first period is about to start. Better get you all to class.” The Dean’s voice echoed, and the room erupted with chatter as the herds began to clear out. You, flustered, grabbed your stack of papers and bag, ducking your head to exit silently. Getting to the safety of your classroom was all you cared about.
--
The day surprisingly flew by, despite the whole meeting fiasco earlier that morning. Getting into the groove of class always caused the days to drift by without a blink. Plus, you tried to make the curriculum as engaging as possible to keep both you and your students interested.
After dismissing your last period of the day, you remained in the room working on the papers from the morning. The afternoon sunlight barred against the windows and lit the room brilliantly. That's one reason you loved your classroom; no matter the season, you always got sun. Plus, you’d hung several plants by the windows three years ago much to Dean Karga’s dismay. But it made the space feel less like a prison cell with its painted white brick walls and cold, tile floors.
A knock on the door filled the silence of the space, startling you slightly. After letting out a chuckle at your scare, you yelled for whomever to enter, knowing sometimes students will leave something behind. However, when the door clicked open and you looked up, your breath caught.
“Hi,” The new professor's low voice echoed in the silence as he stepped into the room, closing the door behind. You cleared your throat, standing up from your desk and subconsciously straightening the fabric of your clothes.
“H-Hi, you must be…?” You stuttered out the sentence, walking to the edge of your desk and leaning against the surface for support. Of course you know him, but you’d feel impolite not asking. The man trotted into your room til he stood only a few feet in front of you.
“Oh, uh Din, Din Djarin.” He spoke, sticking out a hand for you to shake. Complying, your much smaller hand became engulfed by his own as the two of you greeted the other. You were quick to introduce yourself, managing not to stutter as you spoke this time. The man repeated your name, the sound of it rolling off his lips like velvet.
“Is there a reason you stopped by?” You questioned, nervously playing with the hem of your shirt. His head tilted in question before he realized what you'd asked.
“Oh, Yes, I was just making a point to introduce myself to the staff personally. The Dean put on quite a show.” Din commented, shaking his head. You don't remember a thing about what Dean Karga had said during the whole meeting, only the vivid eye contact between you and the man in front of you, but you chuckled at his claim nonetheless.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you.” You smiled softly, studying the man's face. You couldn't help but notice a few minor scars across his warm skin, one tainting the bridge of his curved nose and another along his cheekbone. There was even a small one hiding on his chin, just showing from behind his stubble.
It made you curious as to how an Astronomy Professor could get such things. Then again, people get scars in all types of weird ways. For example, you have a scar along your thigh that you got from a bike accident involving a hill and your chain catching. You were thirteen at the time.
“What do you teach?” The man questioned, his eyes looking around the room, no doubt trying to guess. The night teacher you shared the space with had put up some decor, but for the most part, the walls were bare of any guidance; aside from the several plants hanging by the window.
“Film and Literature. Have been for...” You paused to do the mental math, “Six years.”
“That’s a long time.” Din observed, nodding his head. You agreed with a slight chuckle, looking away and biting your lip. The man's eyes studied your face as you gazed elsewhere, enamored by your delicate features. Seeing you from across the teachers lounge had been burning in his mind all day. In fact, he had started going room to room for ‘introductions’ just to find you; It only took him seven classrooms.
“Well, I love it,” You shrugged, a smile taking over your face, “And what do you teach?” You finally looked back up at the man, your eyes greeting once again. The intimate contact caused such an anxious stir in your belly, but a welcomed stir.
“Astronomy.” He responded with a nod, putting his hands onto his hips.
“A spaceman huh?” You questioned with a laugh, “I suck at science… hence why I am an Film and Literature teacher.” You gestured to the empty desked room. The man just chuckled along before you two fell into silence again. It didn't feel nearly as uncomfortable as before, your tension slowly melting away.
You haven't felt this way around someone for a long time. At least not since your college boyfriend over seven years ago, you dated for two years before you graduated and moved. You haven't really made an effort to since, not for any reason in particular, mostly just because you haven't found someone who made you feel special. Plus, it’s a small area and most of the men weren't available
“Well, I should let you get back to work.” Din spoke after a moment of wordless stares. His sentence was slow and hesitant, almost like he didn't want to leave.
“Oh yeah, I nearly forgot.” You stood up from leaning against your desk and chuckled, looking to the stack of papers on the surface.
The two of you began a slow pace towards the door, heads cast to the floor in shyness. Your sets of footsteps sounded against the tiled floor, filling the empty silence with an echoed click. When you reached the door, the man turned on his heels, nearly bumping into you.
“I'm in room 302 If you'd ever like to stop by?” The man’s statement was more spoken like a hopeful question.
“Okay, I’ll be sure to.” You bit your lip before giving him a gleeful smile, nodding your head. The man perked up at your response, giving you one last goodbye before stepping out of the room.
A Little More Time: Two
Nat handed you a beer and you shake your head, stretching and stifle a yawn with effort. “Not tonight, thanks,” you answer. “I’ve got an early day tomorrow.”
“Whatcha doin’?” Steve asked, watching you wrap Bucky up to go.
“Hiking,” you answer, smiling  little, “A friend wants to go.”
“What?” Sam sputtered in mock surprise, “You mean you don’t just live here? You have a life?”
“Surprisingly,” you answer drily, rolling your eyes in Bucky’s direction and making him snort.
When you finish with Bucky you leave him to the mercy of his friends and go to put together his after care paperwork and a receipt. You know that Bucky doesn’t need it. The man might be a mess in a leather jacket but. He can take good care of a tattoo. All of his, even the ones he’s had for years look new. And you appreciated that. It gave you something to look at that didn’t have anything to do with the rippling muscle while you were laying out stencils.
And it kept you in a professional headspace. Oggling customers was gross. Even if they were really hot.
And so you focused on the smell of the shop. The Ink, antiseptic, and cleaner. And tried not to smell the cologne, whiskey, and coffee smell that emanated from Bucky. “Jesus Christ,” you murmur, shaking your head. “This is too much.”
“What is, Doll?” A deep baritone behind you made you jump and you whirled around to find Bucky frowning at you.
You shake your head and smile a little, “Did anyone ever threaten to put a bell around your neck?”
“Only about once a week,” Bucky said grinning, picking up his packet of paperwork and grabbing his preferred tattoo cleaning things from the shelf to add to his total.
You snort and start to process of ringing him out, careful not to look at him too directly for too long. Bucky was like the sun that way, as far as you were concerned. If you looked too long, you were liable to get burned. And that was the last thing you needed. Another complication. And another person to disappoint.
“Y/N,” Bucky said softly. So softly that at first you thought you’d imagined it.
Until he said it again.
“You okay, doll?” he asked softly.
“Just tired,” you answer, giving him a smile you hoped was care free.
Bucky nodded, looking like he didn’t believe you but. As Nat, Steve, and Sam wandered out of the back, he didn’t have to opportunity to press.  He didn’t want you dragged into their teasing. Not now. Not when you looked… Well. You looked exhausted. And Bucky wanted to take you home and strip you naked before he tucked you into a big soft bed. But. Bucky didn’t want to dwell on that too long. He wants to know why you look… distracted. But. Sam and Steve are trying to book appointments and Nat is asking Steve how the fuck he has the money for tattoos while her bike still has a fucked up paint job.
You’re kind and charming and warm. A business woman dealing with friends. But. Bucky can hear a change in tone. A slight strain. One Bucky has only heard when a group of Drunk college kids wander in and give you some hassle. You don’t like conflict. And he wonders if it might be because he’d startled you.
Still.
As he left with the part of his crew that had materialized their usual chatter flowed around him like comforting white noise. Something as familiar to him as the rumble of his bike’s engine. But that couldn’t erase the notion that something was… off.
You were usually quiet. Not too chatty with him. And it made sense. He could be… intimidating, he guessed. He was a big guy with a mysterious (at least to most people) past. But 10 minutes and a beer with him and you’d have most of the story. Like the rest of his club he was a vet. And like the rest of his club… except for Steve they all had a notion of moving to some town they’d never heard of to start over.
“Nat?” he asked finally.
“Yeah?” she answered over her shoulder, lighting a smoke out of the wind.
“How’d Y/N end up out here?” Bucky asked, “She’s too talented to have just… grown up out here.”
Natasha snorted, “Well, so far as I can get out of her, that’s EXACTLY what happened. She gre up in some little meth infested hell hole and moved to the nearest city after high school.”
“City?” Bucky said looking around.
“She figured it counted if it had a bus system and more stores than a gas station and a dollar general,” Natasha said shrugging.
Bucky nodded, thinking. That filled in some gaps for him but… he wasn’t sure which gaps. He wasn’t sure what he knew and what he didn’t know about you. He knew your favorite color. He knew your favorite soda. He knew your favorite tattoos to do were American Traditional and Pinups. And he knew that you preferred a cold cider to a beer. But… Anything outside of your shop? He had no idea. And…
Bucky felt his feet stop on the sidewalk and he cringed involuntarily.
He had a crush on the idea of you. On what you represented to him. Someone to love and protect. Someone that wasn’t going to let him down. Somewhere in his head, he built you up into being some magical, unattainable being he could pine after… And if it were possible for him to kick his own ass he would.
Hell. He’d call his ma and let her do it.
“Buck?” Steve said, his voice snapping Bucky out of his head. “You good?”
“I’m a fucking idiot Steve,” he sighed.
“Yeah,” Steve snorted, throwing an arm around his shoulders, “But that’s nothing new.”
“Hey!” Bucky protested, putting Steve in a headlock and miming punching him in the kidney. “Nat take care of my light work for me?”
A Broken Heart
Anonymous asked -  Hii, could you please break my heart? Jokes aside, angsty imagines about Chibs are seriously lacking, so it would be super cool if you wrote one. Maybe with the help of the prompts "41. “If you care about me you won’t do this.” "8. “This is a lot harder than it looks, I don’t think you realize that.” "23. “What you’re feeling right now is regret.”. I love your work btw!
Authors Note - Thanks to whoever the Anon was that requested this - this was something completely different for me to write about, especially with Chibs - as my other fics are more funny and fluffy. So seriously, thankyou so much for requesting this - i really enjoyed going out of my comfort zone and writing some really angsty and heartbreaking stuff for Chibs. I hope you enjoy this and it’s what you were looking for!
Warnings - swearing, angst, heartbreak, pregnancy.
You always thought when you met the love of your life, it would be a magical meeting. You had dreamed of being stranded at the side of the road, and your knight in shining armour would come and save you and you'd live happily ever after. That's not how you met Chibs. You met him through your mutual friend Unser. You met Unser when you reported your car stolen at the Charming Police Station 5 years ago. You hadn't set foot in a Police Station before and Unser was a kind older policeman who helped you to fill out a stolen vehicle report. Ever since then if you had any problems Wayne Unser was there to help you. He was like the father you always wanted. He introduced you to the Sons 4 years ago. You needed some work done on your new car and he took you to Teller Morrow to get it fixed. And that's when you met Chibs. You hit it off with him straight away and you've been dating ever since.
It was your 4 year anniversary with Chibs today, so you decided to make him lunch and take it to the clubhouse to surprise him. You made him his favourite cheese, pickle and beef sandwiches, with some shortbread and some coffee in a flask. Nothing special, but his favourite. He had been a bit more quieter than usual around you, and he sometimes didn't even come home anymore, or when he did he was always up and out before you were awake. You put it down to club business worrying him, and didn't ask him about it.
You arrived at Teller Morrow to find it eerily quiet. The bikes were all there, but nobody was outside. You headed over to the door but stopped when you heard your boyfriend talking. You peeked through the window and saw him sitting on a stool at a table with Jax, Opie, Juice and Happy. He looked torn.
"A don't know what to do brother, a don't think a love her anymore" you heard him tell the men. "Am trying to stay away from her as much as a can, hell I've been staying here most nights".
"You need to tell Y/N Chibs" it was Jax who spoke. "You've been together 4 years, what happened?"
"A wish a knew, it's just not the same as it was 4 years ago, hell, it hasn't felt right for me for months now, that's all a know" Chibs took a gulp of his beer. "Am going out for a cigarette, and ti clear ma head".
You couldn't move from the door fast enough and your boyfriend came charging out, stopping in his tracks when he saw you standing there.
"Fuck Y/N, how long have ye been standing there?" He asked you as he tried to reach for you.
"Long enough to hear that you don't love me anymore" you answered as you took a step back. You tried so hard not to cry but the tears were threatening to burst out any second. "Why didn't you tell me? What's wrong with me? Why don't you love me anymore?" The tears finally came and you were sobbing uncontrollably. Your family abandoned you years ago. They told you that you brought them shame and they couldn't stand to look at you anymore. And now here was your boyfriend of 4 years breaking up with you, and leaving you, just like everybody else did.
"Am sorry lass, ave been meaning to tell ye, it's not you it's me, a just don't feel the same way about ye anymore" he explained.
"If you care about me, you won't do this" the heartbreak was evident in your voice. "Please Chibs, I love you, these past 4 years have been the best of my life, I had nothing before you, and you gave me everything and more" you were now shaking and the tears were still flowing down your cheeks. "This seems so easy for you!" You spat at him. "You're not even bothered are you?"
"This is a lot harder than it looks, I don't think you realize that" Chibs said. "A feel like a dick breaking up with ye like this, in the parking lot of ma work, in the parking lot where we first met, but a can't help how a feel".
"I just wish you had told me this much sooner, before I fell so deeply in love with you. I don't think I can live without you". All you wanted to do was reach out and kiss him, reach out and run your hands through his hair which he used to love you doing, reach out and trace his scars on his cheeks. But you knew that could and would never happen again. "I won't make this any harder for you, goodbye Chibs" and you walked away. You walked away from the man who owned your whole heart, and then ripped it out.
Chibs headed back into the clubhouse with a look on his face.
'What you're feeling right now is regret" Juice spoke this time as he stood up to give Chibs a hug "We heard everything man, are you OK?"
"Nah brother, a don't feel regret, a feel sad obviously, but most of all a feel relieved, hopefully we can both move on with our lives now" Chibs returned Juice's hug.
That was not how you planned to spend your 4 year anniversary.  You expected Chibs to be happy to see you, and you would sit and eat lunch together. But that didn't happen. And it would never happen again. The whole drive home you kept asking yourself what was wrong with you that everyone you met wanted rid of you. You wish you had the answers, so you could change, and make everyone love you.
***2 weeks later***
You had been throwing up for the past few weeks, every morning without fail. You were eating more, and craving all types of weird food. You knew you needed to go to the store and buy a pregnancy test.
The drive there consisted of you thinking about how you would tell Chibs. He was obviously the dad, but you didn't want to tell him for the fact he might take pity and take you back. You only wanted him back if he meant it, which you were sure he wouldn't. Grabbing 3 pregnancy tests to make sure, you headed to the checkout to buy them and headed home to find out.
Your timer went off and you inhaled deeply. You always visioned Chibs being here with you, waiting with you in the bathroom while the timer ticked down to 0. But you were alone, and you knew he wasn't coming back. With a big heave, you stood up and picked up all 3 pregnancy tests. 2 lines on each of them. You were definitely pregnant. You were so happy, you have always wanted a baby. A mini you. And you knew the baby would be well loved by you.
You decided to tell Chibs sooner rather than later. You were secretly hoping there was a part of him that would just pull you into his arms and tell you he loved you and everything would be OK. Heading to Teller Morrow you felt like you could throw up any second, and it wasn't the pregnancy causing it this time.
You found him at the bar sipping beer. He turned around when he heard the door open and was surprised to see you.
"What are ye dain here?" He walked over to you curiously.
"I have something to tell you Chibs. I'm pregnant". You watched his face go from confusion, to anger as he tried to process the words.
"Aye nice try, a knew you'd try something like this". You couldn't believe what you were hearing. The once kind and loving and gentle man was being so cold and hard to you. You didn't deserve this. You handed him the pregnancy tests.
"It's true Filip, I'm pregnant, I'm going to make a doctors appointment to find out how far along, do you want to come?" You asked him.
Just then a woman you had never seen before emerged from the door which leads to the dorm rooms. She came straight over to Chibs, turned him around and pressed her lips against his. He was still holding the pregnancy tests, but he wrapped his arms around the woman and deepened the kiss right in front of you.
"You're a fucking dick do you know that Filip, I've came here to tell you I'm having your fucking baby, and you say I'm lying about it, then you decide to play tonsil tennis with that whore!" You were more angry than sad this time. You knew if Chibs could treat you like this after 4 years together, you had dodged a bullet. You grabbed the pregnancy tests from him and headed to the door to finally leave the clubhouse forever. You turned back one more time and saw Chibs looking at you.
"Don't come looking for us. You had your chance to step up and tell me you wanted this baby as much as me, but instead you showed you don't want me or the baby. I hope you'll be happy with your new girlfriend" you said softly. You had no more anger to give and as much as you tried to hate Chibs, you couldn't bring yourself to. Your main focus now was the baby growing inside you.
