new chainsaw’s devil reveal was so cool, with all that use of black, and it explains why the victims were so blasé and their simple switch in conversations asking each other “hey want to die?” before stepping off their balconies. It’s the Call of the Void.

Once again divided by point of view:
Tumblr media
This panel taking place right after Asa saying she also has rules she has to live by or die, so Denji should stay way from her or he’ll end up dead, too, is just such a big slobbering chef’s kiss.
The TV cleanly splits the panel between Asa and Denji. There’s this “block” between them again. They’re also sitting in different positions so, opposed to the panel in the aquarium where they sat across from each other in the same enclosure, there’s again an incongruity that’s being noted through body language/the physical space.
The TV screen is also left blank, with furthers the notion that they aren’t seeing the same picture/taking in the same info. Especially considering that following this we’re seeing what Denji sees—the dog on the screen, his worry about this all being about how he might smell bad like what the movie narration is saying, which is clearly not what Asa or Yoru are thinking.
Anyway. Here’s to another chapter of “I’m going mad fishing for meaning in how Fujimoto blocks these panels.”

need your thoughts on csm and particularly part 1 now that you're caught up
I think my immediate reaction on finishing part 1 was like
loved the art, loved the characters def feel like the story has a lot further to go thematically, only really picked up for me with the reveal of the gun devil
I now think CSM's strength in the early arcs is the patience of the construction of Denji as an everyman resisting the reality that the promised capitalist horizon he imagines is a lie.
now that you can tell the horrible direction my thoughts are going in I will continue under the cut, this is so long oh god. cw: canon typical violence, sexual assault etc.
Initially the repeated invocation of wanting to kiss a girl and eat a good meal as ultimate dreams and Denji being presented as an idiot for it felt like a cheap way for readers to get to root for him in a very Naruto sort of way yk? Poor orphan boy wants a basic life. This is disrupted right from the start ofc, starting with the Himeno's assault and Makima's whole deal. I think this construction becomes more valuable in part 2 when with Nayuta there is a very intentional attempt to construct a family, where the horizon is a normality that includes saving up for college. Nayuta's resistance to some of it becomes more interesting than just jealousy or protection imo.
I think the complications of the "workplace" as it functions for Denji in part 1, living quite literally under Aki's supervision with Power invokes the very familiar team as family stuff under threat. The explicit knowledge of how he has exchanged one debtor for another is v effective especially when they take care of Power. You have him and the readers being forced to confront that purpotedly transactional relationships do not exclude the sort for the simple honesty of care we idealise. And that the care will be weaponised anyway. Aki's abortive attempt to opt out is chef's kiss.
The reveal of the use of the gun devil by nation states might functionally be the first moment Denji is forced to acknowledge the complicated incentives of the Bureau. You get to link the exploitation of people to the more obvious rot in liberal institutions. Part 2 then ratchets this up with the discourses on propaganda and mass participation.
I thought the "Killing of Makima" involving the use of the Bureau insiders led by the old man leaned a little too much on their heroism, vibes wise but I also get why narratively that needs to be done. Which is why Kobeni is so important to me lol. The art and creativity on display at the end of Part 1 was like gorging yourself on one of those early pictures of Paradise. The apartment scene could get read as Makima's personal cruelty but I think it's just making explicit the cruel seductions of modernity etc etc. As a violation of Denji esp. it is almost complete, structurally taking the form of kink and the parody of care after. Mwah.
With that, the reconciliation of Denji's past and present when his past in debt bondage is also constructed with the societal complicity about domestic violence becomes delicious. Nayuta is reborn out of a cannibalism not really done in the service of personal survival and def not out of a commitment to self sacrificing heroism.
I'm excited for Part 2, Asa esp lets you get at some of the same neuroses Denji has as a teenager but from a gendered perspective. Her relationship with Yuko is some of the strongest bit of writing about bullying and justice I have read in a while. I've enjoyed the lead up to Fami and War's apocalypse so far, but their motivations are still a little inscrutable and fallback on devils, wyd? despite their sisterhood. I think Fujimoto's focus seems to be the public discourses around devils in this arc, so thats probably why it feels like that but I'm personally always interested in all of it.

Lol your defending for GabiYui is really on point. I remember some watchers even said 'too bad Gabimaru's heart is stick on his wife, Sagiri is much prettier or hotter' or 'go for it Gabimaru, it's okay to have multiple wives'. Come on, are we now living in an era where a husband being loyal to his wife is something really weird? I need Gabimaru to show his ninjutsu to these people lol.
awww thank you! ofc I will defend GabiYui no matter what since this pair is so close to my heart and has actually inspired me to write better at romance (aside from the other characters from different fandoms I am in) and do my best in life (Nishinoya from Haikyuu is still my main drive but still)
now onto some big points of this ask hehe
re: "Sagiri is prettier than Yui" issue
Tumblr media
these two are absolute sisters your honor
I won't deny that sagiri is beautiful like I swear have you seen her and the way she fights back despite men looking down on her and how she swings her sword? plus episode 6 highlighted her being able to balance her emotions, making her gently kill rokurota. ugh perfection. chef's kiss. 1000/10 rating.
but ya know I don't get why people have to be like "Sagiri is way prettier and hotter but too bad Gabi is not in love with her" like what do you mean too bad? like ???? idk if it's just me but does gabimaru have to appreciate her being hot or what? plus ya know gabi is not into the appearance anyways. he even said in the latest episode (which is episode 7 as of this writing) that appearances really don't matter.
plus I don't get why people love comparing yui and sagiri's physical appearance against each other and saying "this girl is prettier" yada yada when they are both best girls with distinct beauty. in fact, there is an interview with Chainsaw Man author Tatsuki Fujimoto about Hell's Paradise author Yuji Kaku where he discussed about drawing female characters. according to Fujimoto-sensei, Kaku-sensei always drew his female characters beautifully in an aesthethic manner and his reason behind this is bcos "all girls are cute regardless so we must always draw them as cute girls" (not exact quote but you get what I mean) that's why Fujimoto-sensei added he has been trying to draw his female characters as cute as possible. so yeah both sagiri and yui are cute and pretty or whatnot. they just exhibit different vibes like sagiri has major main female chara vibes while yui is def softcore cottagecore vibes 🥰🥰🥰
besides, no matter what people say, yui will still be the most beautiful person in gabimaru's eyes. he even said so in both manga and episode 7.
Tumblr media
note: he used the word "utsukushii" for the term "beautiful" and in Japanese, using this term means you really find a person so beautiful inside and out that it moves you emotionally so the mere fact gabimaru described yui in this manner despite her telling him that she's ugly is something else 😭🥺💖
re: "it's okay for Gabimaru to take on multiple wives" issue
(THIS ONE WILL CONTAIN MAJOR MANGA SPOILERS AND OTHER CANON EVIDENCES THAT HAVEN'T BEEN TRANSLATED OR MOST PEOPLE HAVE NO HANDS ON DUE TO LIMITED SOURCES)
here's MY NOT SO CONTROVERSIAL TAKE on this one bcos you all know my answer.
it is no doubt that gabimaru can take on multiple wives. after all, gantetsusai mentioned he has multiple wives across japan. plus their time period allows men to marry multiple women so people making this statement knows what they are saying.
HOWEVER!
I actually don't think gabimaru will engage in this sort of thing (see, I told you my opinion on this is not controversial hehe) and here's why.
we all know that osa (aka iwagakure village chief) killed gabimaru's parents and took gabimaru in, even to a point where gabimaru literally lives in the village chief's home like some sort of special treatment.
Tumblr media
however, I think one reason gabimaru got special treatment is bcos both of his parents are high-class shinobis (like jonin level) and ofc osa saw his potential that maybe "ah this kid might inherit his parents' ninja skills or something"
plus, osa doesn't have any sons to begin with bcos surprise surprise YUI HAS NEARLY 20 HALF SISTERS with her being the eighth daughter. and accdg to Kaku-sensei, there is a major possibility of yui and gabimaru meeting as children (but alas it is hard to tell since yui has so many sisters). and yes this is all mentioned in Jigokuraku Kaitai Shinsho (pls someone translate this huhu)
so when tsuki (the toasted marshmallow gabimaru that we know) became the 58th gabimaru by killing the 57th gabimaru, he was rewarded for his skills and intellect by marrying yui. but the thing is, it's a common talk among iwagakure ninjas that osa has been looking for a successor and bcos he doesn't have a son, the only choice is to have gabimaru marry into his family (which is common in Japan)
Tumblr media
fun fact: gabimaru actually doesn't know why he was married to yui though. he even thought maybe yui has some kind of secret ninjutsu or something. he tried to find out but this boy went home and when yui greeted him with a beaming smile, he was immediately overwhelmed with feelings that he forgot his own agenda 😭😭😭
so what's the point of all this? you see gabimaru has never realized why yui was so adamant abt this sense of normalcy and all that stuff until he finally learned the meaning behind her dream. after all, in iwagakure, when a man is born, he automatically has to be a ninja and a woman has to get pregnant and bear more children that will become ninjas. and if they die during training, then they'll be replaced by another batch of offsprings that will be ninjas or vessels for children.
in short: women in iwagakure are not only beaten, but also treated as baby-making factories (ofc some of them become kunoichis but most of them just become a housewife that takes care of dozen babies). doesn't matter how young or old. as long as you can get pregnant, then you go do your duty for iwagakure. hence why yui loathed this kind of set up and when she voiced out her want for normalcy, she paid the price by having her face scarred.
but what if a girl doesn't get pregnant? ahh then the guy will take another wife, get her pregnant, then process repeat and repeat. it's a cruel cycle that never ends.
in osa's case, it took him like so long before finally accepting his wives cannot give him a son. and in my own opinion, these things can influence gabimaru into not having a harem marriage in the first place. like imagine marrying multiple women just for the sake of a duty.
besides, given how bad he's down for yui, I don't think he would want another woman other than her. like srsly gabimaru has so much respect for her and having a harem marriage would defeat every single thing he and yui are fighting for.
after all, gabimaru hates the idea of women being treated as broodmares. remember, his wife has been "marked" for the same reason. like he really abhors the idea and there are theories of yui being possibly pressured into having children with gabimaru and tbh it all boils down into this canon evidence from the manga.
Tumblr media
plus I hate it when people normalize cheating like "gabi might cheat with sagiri" or something like srsly? I thought we were all past NTR and all that stuff? if you are into NTR kinks, there are various media forms that can cater to that and sadly, Hell's Paradise is not the medium for NTR as much as these people want it to be.
that's all for today, folks.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 130: Kill Building
Tumblr media
A Kill Bill reference right out the gate, so you already know this chapter's gonna be cool. And it is, relatively streamlined as it focuses purely on delivering kickass and cool action, we follow an off the rails chase scene as Denji and Asa flee whatever that Devil may be.
Now, there's not exactly a whole lot going on with this chapter because of its nature, but there's certainly an interesting piece or two to it.
⚠️Warning: Spoilers Ahead⚠️
Like this one. It shows an interesting power of this devil, where if they close their eyes/hide them they can take over from one of their tentacles/appendages.
Tumblr media
It's a really interesting power when alongside their ability to change the shape of their body to create a hammer or a massive mouth in their stomach. Also, Akira Slide.
Tumblr media
Similarly, the Falling Devil shows some interesting pieces as well, living up to their title. Of course, they don't stray from their overall image as a chef, so they add an apt quip to their actions. It does make me wonder though, if the Falling Devil is able to use any of their abilities if it's not in regards to cooking/eating.
Tumblr media
Either way though, it's definitely a cool chapter and puts a focus on Fujimoto's art, which really shows off through all the action and destruction of this chapter.
Tumblr media
At the end of it, there's not really anything to comment on other than it being a cool ass chapter. I'm really excited to learn more about this Devil and its powers, and I'm really really itching to see if we'll finally find out who this fake Chainsaw Man is.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 124 'Early' Analyses
Well I almost forgot there was a chapter this week because no one is talking about it. Makes sense given this is one of those boring battle chapters!!! Sigh...... (Joke)
This chapter confirms most of my previous thoughts about 123. However since most of them where pretty obvious I'll just summarize. >Falling's attack is based on the weight of trauma so overcome it to escape the attack's effects. Which we actually see in this chapter sort of. This attack seems to specifically ignore devils (Or Yoru has ZERO trauma which the attack can dig up.) since we see Yoru isn't affected by it neither is the devil at the end of the chapter.
Tumblr media
This is a pretty brutal attack for Asa/Yoru specifically since it was established earlier on that Yoru can't take over Asa's body if she's afraid of something.
Tumblr media
It's neat seeing someone try to figure out what a devil is in character since we had to do that previously. Which pretty much everyone got wrong. So I've got a thought forming right now... Yoru mentions Famine interfering in things. Which could explain why Falling is a chef. Previously my friend came to the conclusion that Fami eats a lot because she's the famine devil. It's possible as a horseman she's the one ushering in the apocalypse and as such chose falling as the first one because she's a chef and Famine is always hungry?? Back to the Trauma at hand we get a momentary flashback to when Crambon got murdered by that bitch in the last chapter. However the thing is, Asa didn't see it happen. This is more than likely a false memory created out of guilty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the award goes to Fujimoto for writing the realest character of 2023 (1998)! All the information we get here is stuff we pretty much already knew. But it goes to show the stark contrast between Asa and Yoru. Especially in relation to Denji and Pochita. Asa and Yoru are two people with pretty clashing personalities forced (By Yoru) to share a body. Here we get to see in full the effect this is having on Asa's mental state. She's been willing to kill people (At least in principle) in the past to try and get out of this fucked up situation so it's not like this is new information.
Tumblr media
We get full confirmation that the doors people are being dragged into by Falling's attacks lead straight to hell. We get a new devil so that's neat. I wonder what this one is, Maybe like a worm or caterpillar devil? Odds are we won't get a name for this one so..
Tumblr media
For the final twist of the chapter we get the big reveal. Falling is here specifically for Asa and Yoru. The reason why? Idk, Probably because they're a unique being or something. Maybe because she's a devil who hasn't taken over a human fully like a hybrid? We'll probably find out why soon enough. Final Thoughts: This chapter doesn't really give us much new information so I contemplated not doing an analyses but gotta keep the streak going. If devil shows up he'll probably be immune to the attack while he's chainsaw man since it seems devils are immune to the attack. Uhhhh where is Homotron 3000? 2 chapters without him this is wrong he's supposed to be the bus driver where is he?? I wonder if the reason all this is happening is because Makima is gone. It's possible she played a balancing role since most devils where afraid of doing anything while she was around. So now that she's gone they feel more emboldened to act?

Kim Jong-un’s vile ‘Pleasure Squad’ where virgin schoolgirls are selected to ‘entertain’ North Korean rulers
Within the walls of his ultra-protected palaces that his Pleasure Squad provide entertainment for high-ranking North Korean officials. The 2,000-strong harem is said to be made to sing and dance for the nation's elite — but also take part in bizarre sexual games and orgies. It's made even more disturbing by the fact that some members of the Pleasure Squad are said to have been as young as 13, taken directly out of school into sex work. Defectors from North Korea even say the girls have to undergo invasive medical examinations to prove they're virgins before they can join.
Here's the disturbing story of how the Pleasure Squad was founded — and was brought back on the orders of Kim Jong-un.
The Pleasure Squad or Kippumjo began during the reign of North Korea's founder, Kim Il-sung, who is still considered the country's Eternal President, despite dying in 1994. In the late 1970s, at the height of his power, he sent out his officials to scour the nation for its most attractive young women and girls to act as singers and dancers. Some of them also began working as maids, but the most sexually attractive were ordered to become "comfort women" for powerful officials. Many were aged around 13 and 14, and were sometimes even recommended for the sick service by their schools. Kim Il-sung targeted virgins specifically because he believed having sex with them allowed him to absorb a girl's "ki" or life-force.
Authorities would tell the girls' parents their daughters were being taken on an important mission to serve Kim Il-sung, and they had no say in the matter. The girls would then be kept in party leaders' mansions and were expected to do whatever they were told. Officers in the North Korean military often took the women as wives after they were "retired" from their sexual duties in their 20s.
Once they're taken into the Pleasure Squad, girls are then sorted into different units. Some are expected to sing and dance, while others primarily give massages and are sometimes even sent overseas for their training. But a third strand of the Pleasure Squad, the Manjokjo, are explicitly tasked with providing sexual services.
After Kim Il-sung's death, his son, Kim Jong-il, maintained the Pleasure Squad and had a string of mistresses to boot. And other members of the Kim dynasty were said to exploit the girls too.
Kenji Fujimoto, a sushi chef who worked for the Kims between 1989 and 2001, claimed that Kim Jong-il's brother, Jang Song Thaek, would "audition" girls for the dictator during his reign.
Only a few details of the Pleasure Squad's activities has been made known to anyone outside North Korea's cloistered communist regime. In 2010, a woman known as Mi Hyang defected to South Korea, claiming to have been in Kim Il-sung's Pleasure Squad for two years. She said she was recruited aged 15 while in school.
"They inspected all the female students and put aside some of them, including me, and made a detailed record of my family history and school record," she wrote on a blog. "I was asked whether I ever slept with a boy. I felt so ashamed to hear such a question."
Lee Il-nam, Kim Il-sung's nephew, mentioned the Pleasure Squad in a memoir he published while living in exile before being murdered in 1997. Lee painted a picture of wild parties at Kim's resident in Pyongyang which would last until the early hours of the morning focusing on booze and sex.
“The routine at the parties included eating, drinking and dancing, but usually ended with erotic games,” Lee wrote. “A favourite was a game in which the losers had to take off clothes one by one. It was enforced, regardless of men or women. "If they got heavily drunk, the also played a hair-shaving game. If men lost, part of their head hair was shaved, as if it was mown. For women, their pubic hair was shaved.” He added that some parties were solely devoted to sex when Kim was in a "particularly good mood".
The Pleasure Squad that was started in the 1970s disbanded when Kim Jong-il died in 2011 and his son Kim Jong-un came to power.
That's thought to be because Kim Jong-un was said to trust no one in his father's administration — including the women and girls of the Pleasure Squad.
"The women who entertained his father knew many secrets and they have now been ordered to promise not to reveal any information before being sent back to their hometowns", said Professor Toshimitsu Shigemura, a North Korea expert at Tokyo's Waseda University, The Telegraph reports.
Each of the women was thought to have been given pay-offs of around $4,000, which is a staggeringly large amount of cash in poverty-riddled North Korea.
They were also given electrical appliances to buy their discretion.
For four years, the Pleasure Squad was completely discontinued.
But then in 2015, reports emerged in South Korea that Kim Jong-un was on the hunt to recruit new girls and women for a Pleasure Squad entirely of his own.

Try and Heart
As long as Rin remembers, he is always trying.
Trying to be a good brother for his cry baby little brother yet smarter than him (he proud of that), protecting Yukio from mean kids in kindergarten, kick some asses that bullies Yukio in elementary school to middle school, even look after Yukio every time Yukio upset with The invisible fairies that Rin didn't know before he can see demons and off course making the best bento in the world that makes michellin star chef insecure every single time Yukio goes to school, yet. It seems it wasn't enough.
Rin always trying to be a good boy for Father Fujimoto doing his best to stop messed up things, to be kinder, to be softer, avoid useless fighting with some punks at least before they cross the boundary and using all his strength to help others, Rin doing his best to prove His Father that he has grown up.
Even though it's hard, SO.DAMN.HARD for Rin, but he is always trying and trying and trying. Never ever gonna give up,
But, you know? It's never enough.
Father Fujimoto died, partly because of him, because he can’t control his mouth. So that DAMN abomination, Satan, possessed Shiro’s body and as a cool person, Shiro died sacrificing himself for his demon child. Even after Rin promised to show that he has grown up, he couldn't keep that promise.
What a useless child.
All the time Shiro lived and raised him all Rin could give was troubles, rin couldn't get good grades in school, can't control his temper to yell at shiro when he was angry, jump in to a fight more than he could count and it always ended with rin getting hurt. and you know what hurts him more than anything? Shiro was disappointed and sad to see Rin like that.
Why have you never been mad at me dad? why? Dad was never angry, never scolded him, let alone raised his hand at all the antics Rin did, except... once slap, at that time…
Well he kinda deserves it.
Rin knows that everything he tries never ends well, he shouldn't expect anything, should...not, but even so when Yukio thrust a gun muzzle into his head and asked him to die. Rin was shocked.
They are brothers, one pair of twins! How can Yukio do that to him?
Maybe because Rin caused Shiro's death, maybe because Yukio was already fed up with Rin, maybe because Rin is stupid. Stupid enough to not know or do something to help Yukio even after all the signs, Hell, What a bad older brother Rin is to Yukio, ignorant enough he didn't know yukio tried to kill himself. So.Many.Times.
Why did Yukio not tell him anything?
Why is Yukio not asking for his help?
Why did Yukio not trust him?
Why?
Wait. he did.
Once.
After Shura gives a freaking BOMB information about their Mom in Christmas(and their birthday).
Yukio asked for help. In an implicit way. Rin should have known. After all sixteen years living together, Rin Should have known.
But no he did not.
So maybe because of that, Yukio shot him.
Three times
At his head (because Rin is an idiot for unaware of the signs)
At his mouth (because Rin too much talk and not enough listening)
At his heart (because Rin can't understand Yukio heart)
It hurts so much. And because of that rin drew his sword (his heart)
And the hell breaks loose.
Rin was used to feeling pain, but this pain was beyond any pain he had ever felt. The pain that comes from breaking one more promise, the promise he said to never try to hurt his own brother

Fujimoto previously stated to view Part 2 as a completely different story from Part 1. Part 1 did feel more like shallow introduction, while Part 2 is very character development heavy and centered around moral dilemmas. I'm enjoying this added intrigue so much + combining it with the fast-paced battles and chaotic situations is just...GOD THIS COMBINATION IS DIVINE THE FUCKING TASTE THIS DISH IS CHEF'S KISS I'M FUCOING OBSESSEDDDDDDDDDDDD
