ive seen you post about doctor robotnik's ring racers occasionally on twitter and would like to hear your overall thoughts on the game
I'm enjoying it a lot! It plays well, has a ridiculous number of unlockable characters and tracks, and is generally just really polished. This would be impressive even for a paid indie kart racer that cost like $20-$30, but for a freeware fangame that's somehow built off of Doom? It's nuts. So much love and care went into this. I've been having a lot of fun playing through all the Grand Prix cups and clearing out the challenge board, which I've only completed 47% of it even with over 15 hours of playtime logged.
It's absolutely one of the most hardcore kart racers I've ever played, though, and that's gonna turn some people off. While playing solo even easy mode can be difficult, especially thanks to the rival system that gives one CPU buffs over the others. Anything below 150cc is a complete joke for me in Mario Kart, but even playing on the "normal" difficulty in Ring Racers (now renamed "intense" in the 2.2 patch) kicks my ass, and if you place poorly in a Grand Prix race it gives you a game over and makes you redo the race. I can't even imagine touching the higher difficulties at my current skill level.
This is compounded by how technical the game is and how many options are at your disposal. Spin dashing, tricks, fast drops, collecting and spending rings, an item roulette that can be manually stopped, a high risk high reward chargeable melee attack when you have negative rings, the ability to harass and be harassed by other racers while positioning yourself before the start of the race, gates that can only be passed through when you have a high level of boost, lots of items with different quirks that reward skilled play. And of course, perhaps most daunting of all to new players, there's the game's unique slope physics designed to mimic how they work in the 2D Sonic games, which will often require you to either spend rings for a small boost or stop and charge up a spin dash to get up a steep hill.
All of these add a lot of complexity to the game that can be pretty daunting early on, which is why it has an infamously long story-driven tutorial to introduce all of these mechanics. I'm not sure said tutorial actually does the best job introducing how those mechanics will actually be put to use in races, but I can't blame them for thinking the game needed it. (I do have to admit I am annoyed by the game's insistence upon framing everything via Sega Saturn inputs, though. I had to open the settings screen to figure out what buttons the tutorial actually wanted me to press.)
Some of these things have already been addressed in the first couple patches, of course. You can now exit the tutorial way earlier, some unlock requirements have been relaxed, there's an option to let the game automatically use your rings for you, easy mode has been made easier, a handful of problematic courses have been tweaked, etc. And I'm sure they'll continue to refine the game based on player feedback. But it's probably always going to be a fairly hardcore game. It's hard and has a high skill ceiling by design. Nintendo's never gonna make a super technical new Mario Kart for sickos - not on purpose, at least. They need it to be a pick-up-and-play party game that sells 70 million copies. But a freeware fangame not beholden to shareholders can experiment more and try to cater to that more hardcore crowd. Say what you will about Ring Racers, but it absolutely has a specific creative vision of its own beyond "Sonic Mario Kart," and I respect that even if the game sometimes frustrates me

I really do hope they make Sonic catching Shadow one of the most dramatic scenes in the entire movie.
I have a vision: the scene is an exact replica of the SA2 scene, excusing the lines may be slightly different and after Shadow let's go of Sonic we hear Sonic screaming Shadow's name as he is falling to his death, then the scene shifts. Shadow wakes up in a room that reminds of his room on the ARK, He begins to panic but before he gets the chance to the Olive Garden dude comes into the room seemingly to check up on Shadow. Shadow is obviously on the offensive because this is the same dude that caused him a lot of trouble the entire movie but once the Olive Garden man sees he's awake he begins to talk with him calmly. Shadow then asks why he is here and not dead which makes the Olive Garden dude laugh and usher him to follow him out of the room. Shadow hesitates for a moment then follows him outside to another room where he sees Sonic beat up and burned but peacefully asleep hooked up to an IV. Shadow asks the Olive Garden dude why Sonic was here and gets into fighting mode but the Olive Garden dude stops him with a few words, "Because he is the one who saved you,"
We cut back to the scene where Shadow is falling, now he has already breached the atmosphere and as he is falling to the Earth the spin dash noise gets louder and louder until we see a blue figure spinning towards Shadow's falling body. Sonic reached out for Shadow as his super form is fading; they are going so fast that their fur is burning and Sonic's eyes are watering yet he presses in and finally catches Shadow and holds him close. They tear across the sky like a shooting star then crash land on an island. Some time later G.U.N soldiers show up to take Shadow from Sonic but as they were trying to pry Shadow from Sonic's embrace they found that he, even as he was unconscious wouldn't let him go. Sonic in his weak state of consciousness peaks open his eyes at the Olive Garden dude and says hoarsely, "Please, help him,"

A though on skills (Sonic and the others)
One thing I don't like about Sonic is that all character seems to have about the same skills and downfalls, and this make them less unique. Maybe an approach in the right direction was made in Sonic adventure 2, but that was all.
Considering that I only like few characters from Sonic (In short a little more than all those appeared in Sonic Prime, who luckily were all characters I already like), I only will talk about them and not even all of them.
Sonic and Shadow
(the twins.... not literally, but they truly have twins vibe)
Tumblr media
I think they should keep their iconic skills. High speed, spindash etc. With a slight difference though. Surely the spindash and all related rolling into a ball thing should be identical, no difference.
In particular circumstance and for short amount of time thy both can reach the speed of light.
About speed, I like to think Shadow is sligtly slower than Sonic without his shoes. Anyway those two are the fastest and the difference between them and all the rest should be noticeable.
Physical strenght and stamina favour Sonic. Shadow is tied to his inibitor rings. Without them he is way stronger than Sonic but his stamina decreases fast. Also Shadow can't hold the super transformation as long as Sonic.
Shadow, unlike Sonic, can swim, but I don't see him having a particular tecnique.
He also can perform chaos control better and easily and has full control of the chaos power. Sonic can do chaos control, but it looks diffcult when he does that.
Being left handed can also be one of his advantages. Most people are right handed so unless you aren't a trained warrior (see Knuckles), Shadow attacks may be more unpredictable.
Tails
Tumblr media
I really like his flight abilities thanks to his two tails mutation (do you know that the two tails mutation is real?)
Although annoying in game, I appreciate the fact Tails can't fly forever. Foxed aren't supposed to fly after all. But he can fly long enough to make his level easier to finish. He also can swim but he lacks tecnique.
I like that in SA2 he uses mechanics. But I like more if he uses custom made weapons.
I don't like Tails being as fast as Sonic or using the spin dash. Foxes don't have a mantle and quills. They're like dogs who have a convergent evolution toward cats, so they tend to have typical cat skills rather than dogs skills. I like when he attacks his enemies with his two tails, that look strong.
Knuckles
Tumblr media
I don't see Knuckles as particularly fast, but he is strong and a skilled warrior enough to nullyfy Shadow's left handed advantages and to force him to fight without inibitor rings. He can also free climb easily. I remember in Sonic OVA he just fly just like Goku or Superman, but I don't like that as I'm not fond on his gliding ability. He also can swim, and unlike Shadow and Tails he has a tecnique. Like overall a warrior but pretty much well trained in overall all sports. Of course he should not be able to roll up. But he has quills, he should be able to use them in some creative way.
Amy Rose
Tumblr media
I like her skills actually. The Piko Piko Hammer is a nice touch. Plus she can summon it like magical girls can sum their sceptre, as seen in Sonic X. One thing she should do more is rolling up and the spin dash. She should not be able to do all the attack Sonic and Shadow can do, but she is still a hedgehog so she should be able to roll up.
She can swim, too. Not as good as Knuckles but better than Tails and Shadow.
The tarot card doesn't count. This is a think she likes to do for fun, but I don't see it as a part of her fighting skills.
Rouge
Tumblr media
One thing is obvious, Rouge arms and legs look really thick, like Knuckles', and this does means she is muscular, so she is a good fighter. Plus she is a natural flyer, being a bat. This does means she is supposed to be able to fly as long as you want, unlike Tails and this gives her the ability to go everywhere, without limits. Plus she can swim as well as Knuckles.
Eggman
Tumblr media
I think, since he is a human, our specie, it was somewhat easy to enhance the typical human skill, intelligence, but at the same time is harder to run with creativity in other skills. Suspension of belief is harder when we are familiar with something. All Eggman skills come from brain indeeed and his mechanics is very creative and dangerous. Eggman is able to swim (apparently only Sonic can't swim), but mostly he floats. He possess quite a good strenght and athletic abilities considering how out of shape he is.

Sonadow Moments in Sonic Cyber Revolution (The Ultimate Lifeform Arc)
Tumblr media
[...]
Shadow was standing on the top of the arch-like structure over Cosmo Bridge, arms folded on his chest, the roadway below him being littered with the beaten and flickering bodies of the Irregular Hunters that had found him, most of them near deletion and unable to call for back-up. It was surprising just how fast and easy it was to take all of them out, which spoke a lot about Shadow's power… or the Irregular Hunters' incompetence. Admittedly, Shadow didn't even know that there were ARNavs who were hunting down the Irregulars. Not that it mattered in the long run.
I will get my revenge.
His eyes narrowed when he saw a blue streak of light appearing on the bridge and skidding to a halt, revealing itself to be a blue hedgehog ARNav. The two hedgehogs locked eyes with each other for a moment, with the blue one calling someone before turning back to Shadow.
''So, you're the one who beat up the Hunters, you fake hedgehog,'' Sonic said, clenching his fist. Shadow leapt off the structure he was standing on, doing a frontflip and using his air shoes to cushion his fall as he landed in front of Sonic, his arms folded on his chest. Sonic rolled his eyes, looking unimpressed as he muttered, ''Show-off.''
''It is their own fault that they couldn't put up a decent battle,'' Shadow replied, taking a battle stance. He had figured that the blue hedgehog was just another challenger he could easily take down. ''You shall join them.''
''We'll see!'' Sonic leapt backwards when Shadow dashed towards him, then quickly used his super speed to charge at his opponent. However, the black-furred hedgehog vanished suddenly, appearing right behind Sonic and kicking him away. Sonic hit the ground hard, shaking his head and getting up. ''Okay, not bad. I see you've got a couple of tricks up in your glove, but you're not the only one,'' he said as he turned towards his foe. Shadow braced himself for Sonic's next attack. Sonic dashed towards his opponent, with the black-furred hedgehog anticipating the attack and using his air shoes to dash towards Sonic. However, in the last moment, Sonic dodged the attack, curling up into a ball and spin-dashing at Shadow, knocking him down. As Sonic landed back on his feet, Shadow frowned, observing his foe as he got up.
''Hmph,'' he said, an amused smirk on his expression. ''I thought I would take you down in one hit, but it seems like you're more resilient than I thought. What is your name?''
''I'm Sonic the Hedgehog,'' Sonic replied. ''You?''
''Shadow the Hedgehog,'' Shadow responded, clenching his fist as he glared at his opponent. ''I am the Ultimate Life Form!''
''Ultimate Life Form or not, you're going down, pal!'' Sonic ran towards Shadow, performing another spin dash. Unfortunately for him, Shadow decided to counter him with the same move, with the two hedgehogs ending up clashing in a race across the bridge several times, each trying to knock the other away. Sonic leapt back, with Shadow ramming into him, knocking him away. He then suddenly teleported away, kicking Sonic in the back, sending him flying. Then, he teleported again, punching him, with Sonic landing on the ground hard.
''Is that really everything you've got?'' Shadow asked, his eyes narrowing as he observed Sonic trying to get up. ''Pathetic.''
Without answering, Sonic suddenly got up and rammed him, knocking Shadow away. However, Shadow kept his balance thanks to his air shoes, only to get spin-dashed from the back, with Sonic then going for another attack from the side. However, Shadow teleported again, appearing above Sonic and knocking him down. Despite being badly bruised, Sonic slowly got up, gazing at Shadow, who was standing on the guardrail and looking down at Sonic, a smug smirk on his expression.
''Sonic!'' Sonic perked up, turning around and seeing Lucas joining him at the battlefield. ''Are you okay?''
''I'll be fine,'' Sonic replied, glancing back at Shadow. ''I'm not beaten yet!''
Shadow remained silent, his eyes narrowing as he observed the two. The reason why he was at Neos City was because he had a mission to complete, but he got distracted by the Irregular Hunters and decided to dispatch of those who stood in his way. So far, only Sonic had actually proved to be a challenge, even he couldn't match him in raw power. Shadow figured that he could just end the blue hedgehog right there and then, but then decided against it.
''I don't have time for these games; farewell!''
Sonic and Lucas stared at the spot from which Shadow had vanished, with Sonic breathing heavily as he muttered, ''Shadow… what is he?'' He turned to Lucas, who gave him a troubled look, as if wanting to answer but knowing that the answer would not help them much. Sonic's ears then twitched as he heard sirens in the distance. ''These guys really have bad timing.''
[...]
With that said, he ran off towards CyExLabs, having reached the place in a few seconds. However, even those seconds didn't matter, as Shadow had already defeated the Irregular Hunters, skating down the street, away from the CyExLabs. Sonic knew that, if Shadow teleported now, they would lose him for good. As for how he'd get Shadow to follow him, he wasn't completely sure.
Okay, this is what I'll do. Step one: Light taunting. Step two: I have no idea. Sonic hoped that this would work, preparing for the worst as he called out, ''Hey!''
Shadow turned around, visibly surprised to see Sonic here. ''You again…''
''I've found you, Faker!'' Sonic walked up to Shadow, pleased that he got the latter's attention.
''Faker? I think you're the fake hedgehog around here,'' Shadow replied. Admittedly, he was both annoyed and intrigued by Sonic's sudden appearance. ''You're comparing yourself to me? Ha! You're not even good enough to be my fake!''
''I'll make you eat those words!''
Sonic achieved exactly what he wanted, grinning when he saw Shadow charging at him. Instead of attacking back, he ran off towards the meeting spot he and Lucas had agreed on.
''Coward!'' Sonic heard Shadow yell behind him, but ignored it. It would take him just a few seconds until they arrived at a secure spot. He then entered a narrow street, dashing from wall to wall and jumping over a fence. Fortunately, Shadow was still following him without question.
''I thought you'd be able to keep up with me, Faker!'' Sonic taunted him. ''Looks like you're not as fast as I thought.''
''I'll show you…'' Shadow frowned, not even registering that Sonic had slowed down when they reached an underpass at an area devoid of people. He passed Sonic, then stopped, turning towards the blue hedgehog. His eyes narrowed. ''What is the meaning of this?''
''I want to talk to you,'' Sonic said in a calm tone. Shadow stepped back, glaring at the latter. ''You've been causing trouble among the Hunters, but I figured that you were just defending yourself, since you're an Irregular and all that. So, why are you here?''
''That is none of your business,'' Shadow responded curtly.
''It is if you are going to continue causing trouble for me, my friends and everyone else in Neos City,'' Sonic replied.
''Hmph, Neos City will soon be no more,'' Shadow responded. Sonic's smile vanished and he frowned as he observed Shadow.
''What are you talking about?'' he asked. ''I don't understand. Is Neos City in danger?''
''Neos City… All of the humans…'' Shadow started, slowly opening and closing his fist. His tone was calm, almost devoid of any emotion. ''I'll be the judge of their sins.''
Sonic felt a chill flowing down his spine as he saw Shadow's demeanor changing. ''What… are you…?''
''So, don't get in my way!'' Shadow yelled, summoning an orange and crimson bolt of energy, throwing it at Sonic.
''Wha-?!'' Sonic dodged Shadow's attack, with Shadow suddenly charging at him. Sonic crouched, managing to throw Shadow backwards, but the black-furred hedgehog landed on his feet, his air shoes keeping him in balance.
''Sonic!'' Both Sonic and Shadow looked up to the top of the underpass, with Lucas flying down on his hoverboard, stopping next to his partner. He and Sonic exchanged a nod, both turning towards Shadow, with Lucas adding, ''I had hoped that Sonic would be able to talk to you, but if you refuse to explain anything to us, then we'll have to fight you.''
''I will welcome any challenge,'' Shadow responded. Lucas turned to Sonic.
''Ready?''
''Yeah! Let's do it!''
Both extended their hands, with Sonic sensing Lucas' BioEnergy. They didn't even make any physical contact this time, yet a blue orb of energy appeared between them, with both exclaiming, ''Chaos Surge!''
To Shadow's shock, both absorbed the energy orb, both gaining an aura, with electric sparks surrounding their bodies. His eyes narrowed and he gritted his teeth as he realized what was going on, his voice only a whisper, ''How… dare you…?''
''Time for Round 2, Shadow!'' Sonic said, clenching his fists and taking a battle stance. Lucas stepped away, despite the overflowing energy he felt. He still couldn't control his super speed properly and he felt that it would be better to leave this one to Sonic. Not to mention, if he exhausted himself, then Sonic would lose power as well.
''Why… are you… using that…?'' Shadow continued, suddenly overwhelmed by a memory of the past. He could hear Touka screaming in fear; he could remember absorbing her BioEnergy; he could see her lying on the ground, motionless. Shadow felt a tranquil fury surging through his body, the sense of rage overwhelming him. He clenched his fist, summoning another bolt of energy. ''Unforgivable!''
Sonic dodged the bolt of energy Shadow had fired, stunning the latter with his increased speed. He suddenly appeared right in front of Shadow, kicking the latter into the gut. Shadow fell on one knee, blue sparks of electricity enveloping his body and paralyzing his limbs. Sonic stepped in front of him.
''Why are you so upset?'' Sonic asked. ''If we could just talk– agh!''
Sonic managed to dodge another bolt of energy, but Shadow suddenly teleported behind him, kicking him in the back of the head, his attack boosted by his air shoes. Sonic flew, hitting the pavement hard, but then got up again, just in time to dodge another bolt of energy.
''How dare you to utilize BioEnergy this way? Do you have a death wish?!'' Shadow yelled at both Sonic and Lucas.
''Wait, so you know about this?'' Lucas asked. Shadow gritted his teeth, feeling that he revealed a bit too much. After all, no one was supposed to know what BioEnergy could really do, especially in the hands of an Irregular.
''It doesn't matter,'' Shadow told the two. ''None of it will matter once I'm done with Neos City and everyone inhabiting it.''
''Wait!'' Lucas yelled, but it was too late. Shadow had already teleported away.
''What should we do now? He's gone!'' Sonic said, feeling the Chaos Surge power-up fading away. ''It sounded like he wants to take revenge on Neos City or something like that.''
[...]
Sonic ran through the facility, searching for Shadow. He knew that Lucas was right and that their priority was to find the black hedgehog and learn what exactly he was up to. He thought about his earlier encounter with Shadow, remembering how upset the latter was after he saw him and Lucas performing Chaos Surge. He had to wonder what exactly Shadow had experienced to make him react like that. Sonic knew that something happened, something really bad, and that Shadow needed help rather than a fight. Still, if the latter chose violence as a response, Sonic wasn't afraid to fight back.
Now, where might a black hedgehog with a cryptic reasoning for his actions be? Sonic eventually skidded to a halt in a hallway, looking at the doors. He crackled his knuckles. Okay, we shall do it the old-fashioned way, aka relying on pure luck. Sure, speed may be one of my best qualities, along with my handsomeness and charm, but as Lucas had told me once, I miss things if I don't slow down. So, let's see if my gut feeling is going to help me. Sonic walked down the hallway, randomly opening doors in hopes of finding Shadow in one of the many rooms. So far, he hadn't much luck with the first few, his ears lowering in disappointment when he opened another one that was empty.
Sonic then stepped back into the hallway, taking a deep breath and trying to figure out which door he should open next. What if Shadow wasn't here? Maybe they had missed him, or he didn't return yet. Sonic kept walking, looking from one door to another, until he eventually came across one that, at least to him, looked important. Com'n, luck! Don't disappoint me again!
His eyes widened in surprise as he entered the room, finding himself surrounded by computers. At one of them was Shadow, too focused on the monitor before him to notice Sonic's presence. Sonic, on the other hand, was relieved that he had finally found him.
''Shadow!''
Shadow suddenly turned around when he heard Sonic calling his name. His eyes widened in shock, his quills bristled, questioning how in the world Sonic had managed to find him, let alone figure out which room he was in. Did he place a tracker on him? No, that wasn't possible.
''What are you doing here, Hedgehog? How did you find me?'' Shadow asked in a demanding tone.
''Well, you know how they say; persistence pays off,'' Sonic replied, shrugging. ''You weren't easy to track down, especially once you teleported away, but I am glad that I had found you. We still haven't finished our conversation, and I have a bunch of new questions for you.''
''If you know what is good for you, you would leave me alone,'' Shadow replied, briefly glancing back at the monitor. He was almost done with the program that would turn Neos City to ashes, but Sonic had just arrived before he could type in the final code. However, when he looked back at the blue hedgehog, it appeared that he had no clue what Shadow was up to.
''Unfortunately for you, this is just how I roll. You still owe me an explanation,'' Sonic said, observing Shadow as the latter sat back at the computer, typing something on the keyboard, now a little calmer. ''What was that talk about how you'll be the one to judge Neos City, and why did you freak out when Lucas and I had used Chaos Surge? Have you seen it before?''
When Shadow didn't answer, Sonic started to tap impatiently with his foot, his arms folded across his chest. He was about to approach Shadow, when the latter slammed his hands against the desk suddenly, getting up. It appeared that he was done with whatever he was working on.
''You're really getting on my nerves, Hedgehog,'' Shadow told Sonic. To his surprise, Sonic just grinned.
''Yeeeah, that's what a lot of people tell me. So, what's your deal?'' Sonic asked nonchalantly.
''Since you made the effort to find me at this place, I will give you a choice,'' Shadow replied, with Sonic's carefree attitude vanishing as he listened carefully to the former. ''You can either perish at my hand, or you can observe Neos City, including this part of Starpoint Area, be consumed in a massive explosion, you and everyone within the radius meeting their creator.''
''What?'' Sonic stared at Shadow for a moment, shocked. He felt cold chills running down his spine as he processed what Shadow had just told me. ''What are you talking about? D-Do you want to nuke Neos City?''
''I guess you could describe it that way,'' Shadow replied, folding his arms across his chest. A sinister smirk spread across his lips, showing his fangs. ''What I'm offering you is an act of mercy. Even if you're an ARNav, I'm certain that you wouldn't want to go down in such an awful way.''
''You're trying to tell me that you're going to kill off everyone in Neos City and that I should be happy to die at your hand, did I get that right?'' Sonic asked, his eyes narrowing. Shadow just glared at him, not even responding. ''Oh, no, pal, I'm not going to do that. Now, here's what is going to happen. You'll stop this explosion and we'll have- agh!''
Before Sonic could even finish his sentence, Shadow had formed a bolt of orange energy and fired it at Sonic, who managed to dodge it in the last second. The bolt of energy hit the door behind him, leaving a black mark, a scent of burnt metal and plastic filling the air. Sonic looked at the door, then back at Shadow.
''Fine, have it your way!'' Sonic charged at Shadow, who dodged the latter's attack and, using his air shoes, matched Sonic in speed. The two became a pair of blue and orange and black blurs as they fought, eventually crashing into the hallway, where they were found by a bewildered Lucas.
Sonic didn't even have the time to acknowledge Lucas' presence, as Shadow rammed into him, causing him to almost smash into the wall. Sonic then charged at Shadow, who skated down the hallway to a more open area. Sonic could feel sparks of energy crackling through his body as he glared at Shadow. He knew that he could just ask Lucas to perform Chaos Surge and take down Shadow that way, but he decided to save it in case they had no other way of defeating the black hedgehog.
''Why are you doing this Shadow? Why are you trying to kill everyone?'' Sonic asked, his ears twitching as he heard Lucas running into the room. Lucas, who was right behind Sonic, stared at Shadow in pure shock after hearing Sonic's questions. What were the two talking about?
''Why should I tell you anything?'' Shadow replied, clenching his fists as he took a combat stance. He had set off the program that would overload the energy cores. Now, all he needed to do was to stall for time.
''Well, it looks like the world is ending and you're hellbent on killing me. If this were a movie, this would be the moment where the villain reveals their motives for what they're doing,'' Sonic replied.
''Wh-What?''
Sonic couldn't help but smirk at Shadow's bewildered look. Either the black hedgehog had never seen a movie, or he didn't believe himself to be the villain of this story. He then used this moment of distraction to run up to Shadow and clock him straight across the face, sending him flying. Shadow hit the ground hard, but managed to get up in a crouching position, rubbing his bruised cheek with the back of his hand and baring his fangs.
''Why do you hate everyone so much?'' Sonic continued, preparing himself for Shadow's retaliation. It came faster than he expected, with Shadow charging at him for a punch. Sonic dodged it, but ended up with a kick to his chest.
''Because this is what they deserve!'' Shadow growled, hitting Sonic's shoulder when the latter failed to dodge his attack. Sonic had no idea what had gotten into Shadow, but it looked like the black hedgehog had enough. ''You keep asking why…'' Sonic gasped as he hit the wall, moving his head just in time to avoid Shadow's next punch, which left a crack in it. He then looked back at the enraged black hedgehog, his crimson eyes glowing as he breathed heavily, ignoring the pain in his hand. ''Humans are nothing but selfish, greedy beings with no compassion for those who suffer. They keep experimenting with life callously, showing no remorse for their actions. Even senseless death won't stop them from their cruelty towards others.''
''I know that people can be cruel and selfish…'' Sonic said, using his super speed to get away from being pinned by Shadow against the wall and appear right behind him, ''...but that still doesn't give you the right to act like a genocidal maniac!''
Shadow charged at Sonic, with the latter managing to dodge his fist, only for Shadow to suddenly vanish and Sonic feel pain in his back. He flew, landing on the ground face-first, with Shadow then appearing before him. Sonic lifted his head, glaring at the black hedgehog, who returned an aloof gaze. Sonic was surprised that the latter didn't gloat, but the feeling of surprise was quickly replaced by a sense of curiosity.
''You haven't told me everything…'' He slowly got up, bruised. ''Am I right?''
Shadow didn't respond. He had to admit, Sonic was quite determined to get a direct answer out of him, even if it cost him his life, and he had to admire that resolve.
''Why do you insist on learning why I'm doing this? Why are you so persistent?'' Shadow finally asked, hoping that the blue hedgehog would finally shut up and focus on the fight.
''Because, I believe that you wouldn't be saying any of this if there wasn't some personal tragedy involved,'' Sonic replied.
Shadow stared at Sonic in stunned silence, wondering how the blue hedgehog came to that conclusion. Was he that easy to read? Does it even matter anymore?
''If you really insist…'' Shadow took a deep breath, carefully observing his opponent. They would all be gone soon, and the secret would die along with them. There was nothing they could do to stop the inevitable. Shadow's gaze wandered from Sonic to Lucas. ''I assume that this human is important to you.''
''Of course he is! Lucas is my best buddy,'' Sonic said, with Lucas smiling in response. He was worried about his partner, but he didn't interfere, hoping that Sonic would be to deal with this situation.
''I also had someone who was important to me, someone I was close to,'' Shadow continued, clenching his fists, feeling the rage growing inside him. ''However, she had been taken away from me. The humans who worked here were responsible for her death, and I had promised to myself that I would avenge her.'' Shadow's quiet tone grew louder, filled with raw hatred. ''They treated Touka like a guinea pig, never telling her why she had been here, and she payed with her life. We had both been trapped here for all of our lives, and all she wanted was to step outside this building, but that wish died with her.'' Shadow gritted his teeth, baring his fangs. He felt as if someone put a stone in his chest, as if someone grabbed him by the neck and was choking him. ''Those humans never cared for her! They just let her die, never bothering to even lift a finger to help her when she needed them!''
Sonic and Lucas exchanged glances of astonishment, which was quickly replaced by knowing looks. Despite his head still being a mess from the storm of emotions he felt, Shadow had to admit that he was a little surprised by their reaction. It seemed as if they knew something he didn't. Sonic then stepped up, trying to look serious, but the corner of his mouth twitched as a tiny grin formed on his lips.
''Shadow, you said that this person's name is Touka, right?'' Sonic asked. Shadow frowned, glaring at the blue hedgehog.
''Was,'' he responded.
''Uh, I don't know how to tell you this but… I think that someone had lied to you,'' Sonic continued.
''What are you talking about?'' Shadow asked, now feeling irritated.
''That's because Sonic and I know Touka, and the last time we saw her, which was the other day, she was alive,'' Lucas replied, hoping that they were all talking about the same person. Ferra had been telling them the truth so far and he hoped that the part with Touka was correct as well. ''As a matter of fact, we were told that she had entered this building and didn't come out. She may still be somewhere-''
''You're lying!'' Sonic and Lucas both almost jumped out of their skin when Shadow screamed at them. His crimson eyes were glowing, his fists clenched as he stared at them, completely enraged. His voice, normally calm and steady, was filled with raw fury. ''She is dead! I watched her die!'' Shadow continued, the fury in his voice fading into anguish. ''She is gone and nothing will bring her back!''
''Shadow…'' Sonic could see tears forming in the corners of Shadow's eyes, with black hedgehog finally giving into his grief. He felt pity for Shadow, for him losing the person he cared about the most, but at the same time, he knew that there was hope. ''Shadow, please, listen to me. Touka is still here, and she actually went searching for you-!''
''SHUT UP!''
Filled with rage, Shadow fired a bolt of energy at Sonic, but before the blue hedgehog could dodge it, cyan energy appeared around the bolt, directing it away from Sonic and into a nearby wall. Sonic, Lucas and Shadow heard steps behind them, with Silver and Makoto, followed by Warren, Tails, Lily, Knuckles, Minami and Amy emerging from the hallway.
''I hope we're not too late,'' Silver told Sonic, his palms lined with cyan energy. Sonic just shook his head in response.
''Ha, the cavalry always arrives in time,'' Knuckles commented, keeping an eye on Shadow. ''You're outnumbered, Black Hedgehog. Surrender now and we might spare you.''
Shadow didn't respond, instead observing the group of humans and Irregulars. He will not let them stop him in carrying out his last wish. He would make sure that humanity would perish at his hands.
''No,'' Shadow replied, his voice now calm and collected, chilling Sonic to the core when he heard him. He sounded focused, yet… empty. Sonic knew that Shadow had crossed the line of no return, that he felt that there was nothing he had to live for. There was only one thing that remained, and he was going to fight for it until the bitter end. Shadow focused on the blue hedgehog, as if reading his mind, his crimson eyes narrowing. ''This battle has just begun.''
[...]
Sonic and Shadow spin-dashed into each other, too fast for Knuckles and Silver to follow. While Knuckles could punch the living daylights out of Shadow and Silver could use his psychokinesis to prevent him from moving at all, there was one issue with this plan – they had to have a clear target so they didn't hit Sonic on accident.
''This is bad,'' Silver muttered as Sonic and Shadow charged once again at each other, both seemingly equal in power and speed. ''We won't be able to do much unless they slow down.''
''Stay alert, Grey Hedgehog,'' Knuckles told him, keeping an eye on Shadow. ''The moment we have the opportunity, we attack.''
Shadow suddenly teleported behind Sonic, but the latter anticipated this move, spin-dashing into the darker hedgehog. Shadow hit the wall behind, but managed to get up, forming an bolt of energy and firing it at Sonic. However, before it could hit his opponent, it stopped mid-air, surrounded by cyan energy once again.
''Thanks, Silv!'' Sonic replied, with Silver grinning, and dashed back at Shadow. The two suddenly started to grapple with each other, neither being able to push the other away. Sonic's eyes narrowed as he locked eyes with Shadow. ''You're making a grave mistake.''
''I don't care.'' Shadow attempted to punch Sonic, but the latter dodged the attack, stepping back, only for Knuckles to suddenly charge between them, punching Shadow square in the chest. The dark hedgehog stumbled back, having to admit that Knuckles' attack actually did quite some damage. Knuckles attempted to punch Shadow once again, but the latter used his air shoes to skate backwards, dodging every single punch.
''Stop moving!'' Knuckles yelled furiously, swing after swing missing due to Shadow's superior speed. Suddenly, Shadow teleported away, leaving Knuckles puzzled for a moment, then appearing right behind the echidna and firing an energy bolt at point-blank range.
''Knux!'' Sonic and Silver cried out in worry as the energy bolt took the echidna out. Still, despite being on the ground, Knuckles was trying to get up. He rammed his fists, spikes first, into the nearby wall in an attempt to lift himself up, but Shadow suddenly spin-dashed into him. Or at least, he would've done so if his entire body hadn't been paralyzed by a cyan aura. He forced his head to move, realizing that it was Silver who kept him from attacking.
''The battle's over,'' Silver told him, his palms lined with cyan energy. Sonic and Knuckles had joined him, both badly bruised and a little out of breath, but otherwise fine. Shadow tried to move, but Silver's kept him in place. Shadow knew that, if he wanted to continue this fight, he would have to take the grey hedgehog out first.
[...]
Silver hovered Shadow a bit closer to him, Sonic and Knuckles, still making sure that there was a reasonable distance between them in case Shadow tried something. There was no way that he would let the darker hedgehog escape.
''Give up Shadow,'' Sonic said. ''As Silver said, it's over.''
''You were a powerful opponent, but even the toughest of warriors know when it is time to surrender,'' Knuckles added.
Shadow remained silent, observing the three. He tried to move, but Silver was holding him tight in place. Still, despite that, he wasn't down for the count yet. He hadn't battled Knuckles and Silver before, so he didn't know what they were capable of, resulting in underestimating the two. He lowered his head.
''I refuse. I will never give up,'' he said, tapping into his energy reserves, hoping that his plan would work. ''Chaos Control!''
Much to Sonic, Knuckles and, especially, Silver's shock, Shadow teleported out of the cyan aura that kept him in place. He then appeared before the three, an energy bolt forming in his hands. ''Chaos Spear!''
Fortunately, Silver managed to raise a cyan barrier to block the attack. ''Take this!'' Silver then pushed the cyan barrier at Shadow in an attempt to pin him against the wall. However, Shadow used his air skates to push back against the cyan barrier, refusing to let the grey hedgehog return him to an immobile state once again. Unfortunately for him, Silver's psychokinesis was more powerful.
''Knux, fastball special, now!'' Sonic turned to Knuckles, who nodded. He then curled into a ball and Knuckles grabbed him, hurling him straight into Shadow, with Silver lifting the barrier away in the last second.
Sonic spin-dashed into Shadow, finally knocking the black hedgehog off his feet. However, despite being on the ground, Shadow was still trying to get up, showing baffling persistence. Sonic knew that they were running out of time and that there was nothing that there would convince Shadow to stop this explosion from happening. He was too consumed by grief and rage to listen to anyone, to the point that Sonic had to wonder whether Shadow was even concerned with his own survival.
Shadow had finally managed to get up, stepping towards them. He was breathing heavily, his expression showing nothing but pure fury. Sonic stepped back, joining Knuckles and Silver as they anticipated Shadow's next move, only to be stunned when Shadow's body suddenly started to glow, a red aura surrounding him as he charged up energy. The red aura formed a sphere around Shadow as he crossed his arms, hovering in the air for a brief moment, only to unfold them, releasing a massive wave of energy.
''Chaos Blast!''
The energy blast resulted in a massive explosion, blowing up the entire area and taking Sonic, Knuckles and Silver down. Shadow landed on the ground, winded from the attack that had been fueled by his anger, hatred and pain. He still felt the adrenaline rushing through his body as he approached Sonic, standing right in front of the fallen blue hedgehog.
''I told you, I refuse to give up, Hedgehog'' he said.
''Wh-Why don't you leave?'' Sonic asked, trying to lift his head, locking eyes with Shadow. ''Y-You'll die a-as well…''
This question left Shadow stunned momentarily. As much as he had to admire Sonic's tenacity and ability to keep up with him, he couldn't understand why he was determined to talk to him, to learn more about him. Why was Sonic showing so much concern regarding his emotional and mental state? They were enemies, nothing more and nothing less. Shadow had already shown that he didn't care for him or any of his friends and was willing to kill all of them in order to fulfill his own goals.
''Do you really have nothing to live for?'' Sonic asked as he got up, pressing his hand against his shoulder and looking unsafe on his feet. Despite the beating he took, he was still smiling, baffling Shadow. How could Sonic still be willing to talk to him like this? Sonic then sighed, shaking his head. ''I guess that is what makes you so dangerous. You believe that you have nothing left to lose.''
''I agree, I have nothing left to lose,'' Shadow said, well aware that there is nothing Sonic could do. What he didn't expect was for Sonic to suddenly sucker punch him, causing him to stumble back. Shadow was shocked, rubbing his bruised cheek.
''Well, I disagree!'' Sonic told him firmly, with Knuckles and Silver standing up behind him, both still willing to continue the fight. ''Even if that's that path you have chosen, I won't give up. I will continue to fight for my friends, for Neos City, and for you as well. You might believe that I'm lying, but there is someone waiting for you.''
Knuckles and Silver stared at Sonic. While they may not have had access to the full story behind this fight, as everything happened to fast and not much had been explained, they still trusted Sonic with whatever plan he had. However, before either of them could even continue with the battle, Lucas' team suddenly ran into the area, followed by a cry that shook Shadow to his very core.
''Shadow, please, stop this!''
Shadow stared in shock at the very person he believed to be dead for so long. His crimson eyes were wide and his body was paralyzed, his heart racing as a storm of emotions hit him with full force. ''N-No… It can't be… This- This isn't possible…''
It felt like a dream. The person he cared about the most, the one he fought for and the one who wanted to avenge was standing right in front of him, alive and well.
[...]
''I don't think you should sacrifice your own life either.'' Shadow turned around, surprised to see Sonic behind him. Silver was also there, just standing awkwardly with the energy cores floating around him. ''I told you before, you still have something to live for.''
''I don't disagree with you,'' Shadow said in a regretful tone, with Sonic tilting his head, his arms folded across his chest. ''However, there is no other option.''
''What about using Chaos Surge? You are an Irregular and you can manipulate BioEnergy,'' Sonic suggested, ignoring Shadow's furious glare. ''From what I understood, all you need is a power boost, or am I wrong?''
''I refuse to use BioEnergy for this,'' Shadow responded angrily.
''Why?'' Silver asked, picking the energy core out of the panel once Touka was done disconnecting it. ''Sure, it is risky, but we could show you how to use it properly.''
''I'm also fully willing to go along with this plan,'' Touka added. Shadow clenched his fists, shaking. He knew that the three were right, that there would be a chance for him to make it out alive if he absorbed Touka's BioEnergy. However, the moment they suggested it, his mind flashed back to his battle with the rogue Irregular, the memory of Touka dying resurfacing. He had hoped that this memory would perish when he too perished, but he now understood that he couldn't keep it no longer a secret.
''I was the reason why you almost lost your life,'' Shadow said, surprising everyone. ''I was a complete fool, having resorted to use your BioEnergy in the fight against that Irregular, and when it was over, I was told you were dead.'' He shook his head, his voice shaking. ''I'm not going to repeat the same mistake again!''
''Shadow…'' Touka muttered, feeling sorry for him. Despite all of his hatred towards the humans that betrayed him, he still blamed himself for what had happened to her. She exchanged quiet glances with Sonic and Silver, the latter leaving to quickly pick up the remaining energy cores after Lucas waved him over. She clenched her fists, a determined look forming on her expression. ''I know you won't repeat your mistake, and that is why I want us to try out Chaos Surge.''
''What?'' Shadow was stunned, while Sonic just grinned.
''If Lucas and Sonic could do it without suffering the any of the harsher consequences, then I'm sure we can do it too,'' Touka added.
''Now that's the spirit!'' Sonic cheered, while Shadow gave both of them a dubious look.
[...]
''Stack them up in the middle,'' he said, pointing at the ground. Silver did as he was told and, after giving them one last gaze, he quickly followed the rest of the group. Lucas and Sonic turned to Touka and Shadow, with Sonic crackling his knuckles.
''Okay, ready to learn how to use Chaos Surge?'' Sonic asked. Shadow nodded, being ready to finally confront his fears and the pain that came with it. He looked at Touka, giving her a look of pure determination.
''I will hold on to our promise,'' he said, with Touka smiling, happy to see him overcome his doubts. The two then looked at Sonic and Lucas.
''All that you have to do is activate the BioEnergy. Once it is active, don't absorb it, but let it float. You both need to feel it,'' Sonic explained.
''Once you do, then you both need to absorb it. Don't be afraid of going for it and stay focused,'' Lucas continued, him and Sonic stretching out their arms, blue energy crackling between them. Both could feel the BioEnergy transforming into something far more powerful.
''Chaos Surge!''
Touka and Shadow watched the two as they absorbed the energy, leading the two to become enveloped in a blue aura, with electricity sparking around them, both Lucas and Sonic giving the two a confident look. Touka then looked at Shadow, extending her hand, with Shadow grabbing it without any hesitance. He could sense her BioEnergy, calling for him to absorb it, to become stronger. However, he rejected this power. It wasn't just for him, but for both of them.
''Chaos Surge!''
A bright dark red and orange orb of energy appeared between the two, sparks of electricity enveloping them as they both absorbed it, now empowered. Shadow's eyes were now glowing in an orange and red colour as he and Touka turned towards the energy cores, which were now burning in a hot red.
''Ready?'' Touka asked as she stepped on one side of the energy cores, extending her hands before them as she felt the Chaos energy surging through her body.
''I am,'' Shadow mirrored her actions, focusing on the Chaos energy inside his body. It was far stronger than anything else he had experience and he was going to use every drop of it to save this world.
Both of their eyes glowed red as they were enveloped by a blue field of energy, determined to carry out this mission to the bitter end.
''CHAOS CONTROL!''
[...]
Shadow looked hesitant for a moment, but then did as Tails instructed him, placing the goggles on his forehead and carefully placing the band between his quills. Touka placed her hands on her back, bowing over slightly as she grinned.
''The goggles look really great on you,'' she said, with Shadow smiling in response. His smile then quickly faded into a frown when he saw Sonic run up to them, grinning.
''You know, you may not want to be friends with us, but that still doesn't mean that we can't hang out,'' Sonic said. ''Despite all the craziness and battles, we did have some fun, didn't we?''
''While I appreciate your help, Blue Hedgehog, I'm not interested in being in your company longer than necessary,'' Shadow responded, turning around. ''This is a farewell.''
He and Touka then walked away, only for Shadow to suddenly flinch, feeling exasperated when he heard Sonic's response.
''See ya later, Shad!'' Sonic yelled for everyone to hear, waving Shadow and Touka goodbye. The two didn't respond, despite their obvious reaction, vanishing into the forest. Sonic smirked in satisfaction, glancing at Tails as he placed a hand on his hip. ''The two will come around eventually.''
Tails laughed, ''I had figured you wouldn't give up on them.''
''I believe that all they need is a simple nudge in the right direction. Shadow isn't a bad guy and I'm looking forward to running into him again,'' Sonic responded, with the rest of the group approaching them. ''Now, com'n, let's go home!''

question: If Prime Shadow (of what we know of him so far) ever met the Wachowski family, what would his reaction be?
Meet the Wachowski’s
Shadow has always seen the unchanging.
On the Ark, nothing ever changed. A strict routine, and the view hardly alters, with the view of the earth only changing slightly. The stars seemed to never move, and even the asteroids were starting to look familiar.
This feeling of unchanging continues in the void. It was new and interesting at first, but Shadow had quickly lost interest. How long has he been stuck here? He isn’t quite sure. But every now and then, something changes. But that change is something he’s familiar with, so is it really a change at all?
Sometimes he sees Sonic being flung through space, sometimes he sees glimpses of him when he runs fast enough.
However there’s another change, much rarer. Sometimes a shutter passes by, but he can never get close enough before it disappears.
Today Shadow will make an effort. He wants to get somewhere. Anywhere. This void will drive him insane if he sticks around any longer! Using the shards around him for extra boost and footing, then activating his air shoes, Shadow wanders further than he had when he first got here. Suddenly he feels gravity pulling him off his course, and he is pulled into some kind of wormhole. Shadow shields his eyes from the swirling colours and discomfort. He also curls into a tight ball, fearing that the gravity may pull him apart.
And then he’s falling. He uncurls to check what’s happening, and he sees a bunch of trees rapidly getting closer. Shadow enters a spin dash to break his fall and he crashes into the ground, which causes a crater to form around him. Some rocks are cracked in half, and some tree trunks have a crack going halfway up.
Shadow tries to quickly gather his thoughts and figure out his surroundings. Yeah, he doesn’t know where he’s at. Just before he’s able to even stand up to explore more, he hears voices approaching. Shadow stands up and balls his fists tightly, ready to take on whoever is coming.
“I think it came from over here!” One voice said.
“I hope a tree hasn’t fallen.” A second voice, but deeper says.
Shadow can’t believe his eyes. It’s Knuckles and Sonic. Shadow sees red. That blue bastard! He sprints forward, grabs Sonic, then pulls him along with him. Sonic isn’t even able to scream or realize what’s happening. Knuckles is trying his best to follow, but whoever took his brother is much faster than he is.
Shadow reaches a clearing in the woods and throws Sonic to the ground. Sonic looks up at the hedgehog looming over him.
“Who are you??” Sonic is super confused.
“Don’t play stupid with me, Sonic.”
“Dude I legit have no idea who you are!”
“Save it. You think you can just destroy our world then move on?”
“What??”
Sonic gets to his feet “look, I don’t want to fight you. What’s going on?”
Shadow sneers, his rage clouding his judgement. Sonic receives a nasty punch to the face. Sonic holds his cheek and punches back.
The two begin wrestling. Sonic begins charging up his chaotic energy. Shadows eyes widen and he takes a step back “how are you doing that?” at first he’s appalled Sonic has been hiding this flashy ability, but then he gets a closer look: this Sonic is shorter than he remembers, and he has blue arms. He takes a step back, and Sonic calms down. Shadow realizes that this Sonic also looks younger.
Sonic stands stiffly, ready to take on any more incoming attacks “who are you? How do you know my name? What world have I destroyed?”
Shadow realizes one last thing: this ain’t his Sonic!
“My apologies. I think I have you mixed up with someone else.” Shadow immediately has a less scary aura surrounding him.
Sonic still isn’t sure about this guy.
Shadow feels awkward now. Whoops.
Then a red force of extraterrestrial nature comes full force right at him, and Shadow is send flying, crashing straight through a couple trees.
“Holy crap!” Sonic rushes to stand between Shadow and Knuckles “relax, it was a misunderstanding!”
Knuckles looks at Sonic, and the red sparks go away. He trusts Sonic’s judgement, but he doesn’t trust the guy who just ran off with his little brother. Sonic goes to the stranger and helps him up “you ok?”
Shadow groans, holding his ribs “I’m alright.”
Sonic brings Shadow back to the clearing, “you gonna tell us who you are, now?”
“Shadow.”
“Is that a nickname or is that your actual name.”
“I was given the name Shadow when I was created.”
Sonic and Knuckles look at each other. ‘Created’ is a weird word to use.
Sonic looks back at Shadow and asks “how do you know my name?”
Shadow stretches, already feeling better. “I think I might have travelled from another universe.. more accurately, I came from a void. I used to have a universe, but then the you I know broke it. He shattered a brightly coloured gem and next thing I knew, I was in a void surrounded by shards. I’m sorry for attacking you. I’m now going to save my energy for my Sonic who desperately needs a beating for this stunt. That r-reckless..” he sighs, clearly hurt by what this other Sonic had done, “I’m sorry, I’ve said too much.”
Knuckles approaches “do not be sorry. I do not blame you for wanting to kick Sonics butt, especially under your particular circumstance. However. You still hurt my brother. That cannot be forgiven immediately.”
Shadow blinks. “Brother..?” This is new. He never really thought about those two having a brotherly relationship.
Sonic zips to Shadows side “don’t worry, Shads, your confusion is completely normal! Everyone we know that’s from another universe is always shocked to hear that Knuckles and I are brothers, and that we were adopted by human parents!”
“You have PARENTS?!” Shadow is flabbergasted! “Is Tails your brother too?”
The two nod. Shadow feels some relief, at least that’s familiar.
Sonic gestures for Shadow to follow him “come with us! If there’s anyone who can help you, it’s Tails! But be warned! He’s not great with strangers!”
Shadow rolls his eyes “he’ll be fine.”
“Maybe he will, but you might not be.” Knuckles points out. Shadow feels a sense of worry, “what do you mean?”
Sonic suddenly has the biggest smile “HE HIT KNUCKLES WITH A CAR”
It’s just one shock after another with these people! Shadow has no idea what to do with this info. He’s maintained his usual poker face pretty well up until now. His jaw is slightly dropped. Shadow wonders what kind of place he’s ended up where Tails is hitting people with cars.
They make it to the house, and Tom is there waiting for them.
Tom looks at Shadow and Shadow looks at him. Tom is used to aliens in his house by now, but this is a completely different guy. “Who’s this?” Tom asks his son. Sonic stands between Tom and Shadow. He gestured to Shadow, “Dad, this is Shadow. He spawned in the forest!” Then to Tom, “Shadow, this is my dad.”
“I’m Tom, nice to meet you.” Tom offers his hand to shake, which Shadow slowly takes.
“Father, where is Tails?” Knuckles is getting right to the point here!
“Tails is with your mom at the convenience store. While you two were gone, Tails was very upset to figure out that he had eaten all of his mints, so he and Mom are getting more so he doesn’t explode, snap, or attempt to disassemble the fridge.. again.”
Sonic turns to Shadow “well, guess we’re waiting a little bit! Come with me! I have questions!!” he smiles and grabs Shadow by the wrist then drags him up to the attic with Knuckles close behind. “Welcome to my room! It’s also Tails’ room, but it was my room first!” Sonic starts jumping on his bed. Shadow takes in what’s in front of him.
“What’s other me like?” Sonic asks. Shadow saw this coming, so he planned an explanation in his head, “the Sonic from my universe is a big hearted fool who trusts far too easy. He tends to act on impulse and disregard the worries of those around him, including Tails who I heard warning him before he shattered the world. Things must go a certain pace for him to stay sane, but he takes detours from his goal.” Shadow notices Sonics sad face, and sighs “..however, Sonic has helped me through some tough situations. He has demonstrated the ability to reach peoples hearts. His priority has always been to help others. I don’t know how he manages it, but what I do know is that he will face deadly impossible odds over and over again, not caring if it will kill him. He has beaten those odds every single time. I guess I should have more faith in him..”
“Sonic has helped me through tough times as well. He ran into certain death with honour.” Knuckles recounts, thinking back to their rivalry and battle against Robotnik. Shadow nearly cracks the tiniest smile as he says “ah, that idiot.”
Sonic wonders why he is the way he is. Why does he run into deadly situations? Maybe that’s a thought for another time.
Knuckles now wonders about his other self “what about me?”
Shadow thinks “Knuckles is a loner. He is usually guarding the Master Emerald alone, but I do occasionally see him when Dr. Eggman attacks, or is causing trouble. I respect him. And Tails, because I know you will ask, is-“
SPEAK OF THE DEVIL!! Tails has appeared in the attic hatch. When Tails notices Shadow, he freezes up, and twirls his tails to look like a single one. He stands closer to Knuckles and keeps his eyes locked on Shadow.
Sonic wasn’t kidding when he said Tails wasn’t very good with strangers. With no adrenaline or preparation, he’s defensive and shy.
“Tails, this is Shadow.” Knuckles offers his hand for Tails to hold, which Tails refuses.
“Hi..”
“Hello.”
Awkward already.
Sonic breaks the awkward silence “Shadow here is from another universe that was broken by another me, and has apparently been in the void since. We found him in the forest!”
Tails’ interest is piqued! But not enough to get comfortable with this guy juuuust yet.
Shadow realizes that if he wants to get anywhere, he needs to gain Tails’ trust.
His thoughts are interrupted by Knuckles holding up Shadows arm, “why do you wear rings?” Knuckles asks, “is it a cultural thing?” Shadow takes his arm out of Knuckles’ grip and holds out his wrist for him to see “they’re called inhibitor rings. I wear them to limit my power.”
Sonics face shifts to concern “wait wait wait hold on-“ the others look at him, “so you’re telling me that your crazy speed and strength isn’t your full power?!”
Shadow half nods. Sonic’s jaw drops.
Tails’ interest is further piqued! Enough to ask a question! “Shadow, do you know anything about the void you came from?”
“There are floating crystal shards everywhere. Sometimes I see a shuttle-“
“Shuttle? What colour is it? What shape is it?”
“Everything has a purple hue, but I assume it’s red. It’s also round.”
Tails gasps “I think you’re from the same universe as Nine then!!”
Shadow furrows his eyebrows “who’s Nine?”
“He’s another me! He’s also looking for Sonic! It’s been a while.. I wonder if he found him!”
Shadow thinks about the possibility of there being more than one Tails in his universe, and the thought alone makes him feel immensely annoyed.
“That’s absurd. Why would there be more than one Tails?”
Tails shrugs and gets on his M.E. where he has kept data and code from each universe that he has visited or has come to visit him.
Sonic chills out behind Tails then turns to Shadow, “hey Shads-“
“Don’t call me that.”
“You never finished telling us about what your Tails is like!”
Shadow lets out a “hm.” as he thinks about the kindest way to go about this. He doesn’t want to invoke this kids wrath and get hit with a car. He formulates a response in his head that comes out as “I don’t hate him, but he’s just a smaller version of Sonic with a brain.” The look he gives makes the others, especially Tails, uncomfortable. They can tell that he isn’t too fond of the fox. Shadow wonders what he said wrong! Why are they looking at him like that? Shadow says “I don’t talk to him a lot, but he’s a good kid, I guess.”
That makes things a little bit better.
Shadows social battery is draining faster by the second, and he’s getting impatient.
Tails has a lightbulb moment, “Shadow you said your world was broken, right? Can you tell me what happened? I have a small theory, but I need evidence to back it up! You don’t gotta explain every detail, but tell me what you feel is important to your situation.”
Shadow recalls what had happened, “a few days before the incident, my friend Rouge was talking about this rare gem called the Paradox Prism. She said it was powerful. I had no interest in any more powerful gems, so I declined to go with her. The day of, I was looking for something, when I was hit with a blast of blue energy, which no doubt came from Sonic. I ran into him later and we had a fight about it. The fool as always had his head in the clouds, but he looked panicked when we heard an explosion in the distance. I followed him shortly after, just in time to hear him being warned about not knowing what the gem does. When I showed up, Eggman almost had it out of the ground, and Sonic spin dashed into the gem. I sensed danger so I used Chaos Control to evade the blast. I ended up in the void I mentioned earlier, and upon further investigation, I discovered that by hitting that prism, he shattered the world.”
Tails listens closely and nods, “if I’m correct, and you’re from the same place as Nine, that might mean your world shattered into smaller worlds.”
Shadow crosses his arms and leans his back on the desk, “I believe you’re correct. Every now and then, whenever Sonic runs fast enough, I see him. A few times I’ve seen him in person being flung across the void, only to disappear in a flash of light.. I’m planning on throwing him off somehow.”
“Do you use the floating shards to get around, or can you just float in freedom?” Sonic asks, the question having rattled around in his brain for a bit. “A bit of both,” Shadow says, “I use the shards, and I use my air shoes to get around.”
“Air shoes?”
“Air shoes.” Shadow lifts his foot up and shows off his air shoes in function. The boys are amazed! Tails has so many questions, he’s bouncing in his seat. He taps his cheeks to regain focus and composure, "OK! I also think that when the world shattered, bits of your friends were shattered too! I think because Sonic was the one to break it, he became a 'creator'. That means there's only one of him! I don't know anything about the other worlds besides what Nine told me, so I can't confirm at this moment in time, but it's a hunch!" Tails says, logging what Shadow told him into his computer.
"Who is this Nine you keep mentioning. I know he's another you, but what else?" Shadow asks plainly. Tails' body language droops "he came from a world where Eggman won. No nature anywhere. He never had Sonic to save him from his bullies, so.. he just took it. He lives alone now. His attitude is not like mine, he's a lot more negative. He made himself 7 extra mechanical tails, hence his name being Nine."
"Bullies?"
"Yeah, he and I were both bullied for our extra tail. Your Tails might've too."
"Bullied.. how?" Concern grows in Shadow's tone.
Tails looks away to hide his face "U-uhm.. well it was common for me to be called a freak and for people to t-tug on my tails..."
Shadow feels the blood leave his face. Shit. If this Tails and his Tails suffered the same way, Shadow might have unintentionally triggered some terrible memories. No wonder the kid is so afraid of him! If he and his Tails ever meet again, he has some apologizing to do. It never occurred to him that during their fights, to Tails, it would be more to him than a regular fight if someone is grabbing his tails. He's aware he's rude to him, but he never intended to be a bully.
Shadow is getting dirty looks from Tails' older brothers. They don't like that he's making Tails talk about something that might be uncomfortable.
Shadow feels awkward again. He also feels like this is taking too long. So he takes out his chaos emerald and puts it on the desk directly in front of Tails. Tails picks it up and gives Shadow a questioning look. Shadow says "analyze this. Maybe it will help you." Tails hooks up some things to it and is blown away by the numbers he's receiving. This gem is insanely powerful. Just holding it he feels more powerful. Tails is able to analyze the cosmic genetic makeup of the universe it came from, and locate the last few locations Chaos Control was used judging by recent spikes of energy. He begins uploading the coordinates to his portal gun. Knuckles is looking mighty confused at how that chaos emerald is so big.
"Sit tight. This may take a while." Tails says, staring at the file transfer speed he desperately needs to fix one day.
Sonic saunters over to Shadow and smiles at him "wanna run to pass time?" Shadow thinks for a moment, trying to not look into Sonic's pleading eyes. Shadow finally sighs "fine.."
Sonic cheers and leads Shadow back downstairs. He yells to his parents in the kitchen "Mom, Dad, I'm taking Shadow on a run!" he doesn't wait for a response before opening the door and racing off with Shadow.
Sonic is so happy to find someone who can actually keep up with him at his normal speed. Tails and Knuckles are very fast, but Sonic always finds himself slowing down. This is a welcome change of pace.
Running has always been a huge comfort for Shadow. They're fun and they clear his mind. When he faced an identity crisis, running has always been there for him. Shadow is glad that he is able to run around again after floating for so long. He feels so free!
The two have a small chat about how great it feels to move before looping back to the house.
When they open the door, the smell of dinner hits them.
Sonic sniffs the air and turns to Shadow with a big smile "Oh! Shadow! You should eat! You've been in that void a long time, you must be hungry!"
Shadow hadn't realized how hungry he was until he could smell food. His mouth is watering. He is in no position to refuse, so he ends up joining the Wachowski's at the dinner table. The food is heavenly for a man starved.
Maddie is super happy to meet another one of her boys friends! Shadow isn't very talkative, and she respects that. She lets him eat before asking him any real questions. Her first question is "when was the last time you ate?"
Shadow responds "I don't know. I don't need to eat to survive, so I never started counting." Not eating would be super painful, but it wouldn't kill him. He's immortal. Unless his body is destroyed, he will not die.
"You say you don't need to eat to survive, and I recall you mentioned being created," Knuckles asks, "are you artificial?"
"Yes, but I am not a robot. I was made in a lab, and that's all I will say. I wasn't mistreated, but it brings up bad memories." Shadow answers, his face neutral. He is not going to tell these people his life story. What he said did answer any questions the others had.
Tom and Maddie were about to ask him about family, and they decide that may be a bad idea, if Shadow says he had bad memories of a lab.
Tails slips upstairs to check on the portal gun progress. He comes back down with the gun in one hand, and the chaos emerald in the other. He hands Shadow his emerald and says "it's done loading!"
Sonic playfully punches his little brothers shoulder "finally! Your NASA computer is slow!"
Tails looks at him confused "I didn't get my computer from NASA!"
"It's a joke, buddy."
"Ohh. Sorry."
"It's ok. Maybe next time it'll land."
Everyone gathers outside (Tails said it was the best location) and Tails fires the gun. The portal opens, and on the other side they see the void Shadow was talking about. It's strangely beautiful, but also very lonely looking.
With a sad concerned expression, Sonic asks Shadow "..you sure you want to go back?"
"I have to. If I want a chance to fix my world, I have to go back and find Sonic. Goodbye, and thank you for your hospitality."
"Bye, Shads." Sonic says.
"Take care." says Knuckles.
"Bye Shadow! If you see Nine, tell him I said hi!" says Tails.
"Be safe!" Maddie says.
"Take it easy." Tom says.
Shadow gives a small wave, clutches his emerald, takes a deep breath, and jumps into the portal.
The portal closes behind him, and Shadow is back to being alone, leaving behind the kind smiling faces.
Then he sees Sonic running. This is his chance.

the OFFICIAL sonatchet propaganda post from the REAL ceo of sonatchet
Tumblr media Tumblr media
are you a fan of sonic the hedgehog? perhaps ratchet and clank is more your style? or maybe you like both? well, have I got the ship for you.
now, why should YOU ship sonatchet? it's simple: the franchises have so much in common. now, sonic fans, when i say, an anthropomorphic creature has to stop the evil capitalist baddie from taking over the world with his little buddy, smart as a whistle. along the way, he grinds rails, he follows his own path, not exactly good, but certainly heroic. he does this all with an absolutely brilliant soundtrack. and yeah, maybe the more recent games haven't been so good, writing and gameplay-wise, but hey, we're getting back on track.
what i have just described to you is ratchet and clank. initially created a year after everyone's golden child of sonic games, sa2, by ex-members of sonic team, ratchet and clank has been a vital part of my upbringing, more so than sonic has. for me, sonic is a more recent thing. i've been a fan since i was 5. when did i become a fan of r&c, you may ask? well, my first memory is my dad playing it in front of me, to give you an idea. i couldn't walk or speak properly, sat in a high chair, presumably eating soggy toast, one half marmite and the other of bovril. but, by that point, i was used to the experience - i can't even remember the first time i watched him play.
for any sonic fans who havent yet got the gist, imagine shadow the hedgehog (2005) with good writing that sounds like how actual people speak and less goofy weapons. edginess for the sake of humour rather than for edginess. oh also there is actual genocide in r&c1 quick heads up.
so, r&c fans, with it being far more mainstream, you're probably well aware of the overlap between the two franchises. hell, most of you reading probably are sonic fans. so, of course, i probably wont have to explain sonic in ratchet and clank terms. i want to but i wont. at the end of the day, all you need to know is that sonic is a hedgehog who runs fast and is kinda like ratchet.
THE SIMILARITIES
quickfire round! if it's in blue, it's headcanon, if it's plain text, it's canon!
transmasc and bi
somewhat morally grey, however definitely on the good side and classes themself as a hero
has a younger brother-figure/best friend who's good with electronics and can let him fly
has to fight robots
the biggest baddie is usually capitalism or actual cosmic horrors
space is vaguely related
sci fi
both quite calm and laid back but can get very serious and angry if you let them
adventurous travellers
fairly flirty but never seem to settle down (aroace reference?)
from what ive heard stc sonic is basically slightly angrier 2002 ratchet (i havent read stc though)
both almost the exact same age, with ratchet being 14-16, depending on which game, and sonic being 15
THE DIFFERENCES
ratchet LOVES weapons, with the vast arsenal being one of the main selling points of r&c1/sonic is known for spin dash
ratchet canonically has negative rizz (though i believe has had canon love interests iirc?)/sonic is attractive to almost everyone
ratchet has explored multiple galaxies/sonic has only explored a single planet and the odd space station
sonic is probably more likely to do the right thing
sonic is a giant environmentalist, literally has befriended nature/ratchet cares more about saving people than planets, unless it's an actual planet blowing up. like, the planet will cease to exist from quark's super laser piss or something
all of this ties together to create the wonderful ship we call sonatchet, a real and true yearning across franchises. truly, god made them in different game studios because he knew they would be unstoppable as canon lovers.
for any sonic fans wanting a really good comparison, id say the best i can give you is sonadow with a sonknux dynamic? though, not entirely. obviously, if there were a comparable ship, i wouldn't bother tagging in another guy from a completely seperate franchise, so please, please, understand the joys of sonatchet.

Apparently there might be a new Sonic manga printed in CoroCoro Comic?! There was a oneshot in the January 2024 issue and there's a chance that it could become a serialized manga if there's demand for it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dash & Spin Super Fast Sonic and some of the Sonic the Hedgehog (1992-1994) manga were serialized in Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic, so this is interesting.

My biggest dream is to tie in the current poll so we can assist to the birth of team:
A heart of two shades ergo blue ghost sunflower in the shell hoc
Guys please it would be so hilarious 😭😭😭
Some propaganda for this super amalgamation tie team!!! @tmnt-crossover-polls
Special thanks to @amevello-blue for writing ghost's dialogue!!
Come on.
Ice cream, February, that look Leo gave him that one time he let a stray dog covered in muck inside Leo's bed, toothpaste
You are the cold, Mikey. You. are. the MOMENT
With a triumphant and totally epic shout, he pushed himself away from the walls of the ice rink, using all his strength to propel himself into a dash through the ice, crossing the center and passing by the group of startled doctors in a blur of movement
He let out a loud, delighted laugh
He was doing it!! He could totally become the best ice skater ever!
The only thing he was lacking were those spins they always did. Like in Mario and Sonic at the Olympics.
Well, that could be easily solved couldn't it?
He wasn't really sure how it worked though
But meh, he was good at improvising
He lifted one of his feet, as if he was trying to do a spinning kick only to immediately lose his balance with a squeak, falling to the side, he didn't stop, the momentum still carrying him forward, getting closer to–
Wait wait wait wall WALL WALL
Mikey didn't have time to react, the crash coming hard and fast, rattling him slightly
Okay, that had hurt a bit, he could admit that.
No problem. He would get it next time. He just had to–, his legs slipped as he tried to stand, making him fall on his butt.
Second try it was!
He fell over again with an oomph
Or not. Okay, third time's the charm–
"Mikey!" Called over the familiar voice of a worried older brother "be more careful. You could have gotten seriously hurt"
See, most of the time being in the receiving end of a Leo lecture was not fun but, considering that his brother was very badly trying to look all serious while he practically hugged the barrier to support himself it was getting reeeeeeeeally hard not to laugh
He still didn't because, for some reason, Leo seemed to be touchy about these things. He had even heard him mutter about failure and dishonor when they had first stepped into the rink and the four of them had promptly fell on their faces
His brother was a bit weird
So, as Leo approached extending one hand in a clear offer to help, Mikey did NOT think about how he looked like that one scene in Bambi and DIDN'T laugh in his face.
Oh no, now the mental image would not leave him.
He lost the fight against the little snicker that burst out from his mouth.
At least Leo didn't seem to mind
"Let's take it easy, Mikey" he was saying with a frown as Mikey grabbed his arms, finally managing to stand.
Okay, perfect.
"This is just for fun. We don't have to go all out"
He stood in place with a bated breath for a moment, checking if he was stable.
Yeah, he was totally getting the hang of this
Maybe the problem had been the direction. He had ended up face planting directly into the wall and he wasn't very eager to repeat the experience
Wait, that was it! If he couldn't stop while going forward maybe the solution was…
"So don't–"
"Thanks for the help, bro!" Mikey shouted as he once again used the barrier to launch himself into action.
This time though, he was moving shell first so he got a full view of his brother's suddenly horrified face as he shouted at him to stop, doing his best to follow him.
It wasn't going very well, since he couldn't keep up with Mikey's boosted speed and he was still extremely clumsy but hey! Leo was skating now! Maybe it's kinda like using a bicycle for the first time. You just have to learn how to swim by jumping into the sea!
That wasn't how they had learned to do either of those things but it was the principle of the matter.
Maybe the best example would be how one does the best flips when they have to jump off a building. Yeah that was it! The best way to learn is when the stakes are high
He couldn't tell that to his dad though. Imagine if their math lessons involved potential life threatening consequences. No thank you
Though, now that he thought about it it could make them more entertaining which… was something they definitely needed
Hey, wasn't the edge of the rink getting awfully far? How long until he–
His lower back met a hard surface, which was expected.
What Mikey hadn't accounted for was that the walls only reached slightly higher than his waist so, when he hit one of them at full speed, instead of stopping, his body was flipped backwards over it with a startled shout
He found himself upside down, dangling by his legs. Huh, there were a few people scattered around the place. One in particular, a purple banded turtle seemed to be looking right at him.
Eye contact totally meant a chance to socialize and he knew who was the best turtle for that mission.
Honestly? This competition thing was proving to be a lot of fun. He hadn't talked to these many people in his life. It was a unique and fantastic opportunity even if his brothers didn't see it like that.
He would totally show them, just you wait!
With a huge grin and not losing sight of the possible new friend he used his arms to flip himself, managing to land upright and not stopping one second before reaching the other turtle with a sprint or, well… the closest thing you could get to one while running on literal blades but whatever
New turtle must have thought it wasn't a very good attempt because he took a few steps towards Mikey, carefully extending his arms as if he were trying to catch his fall
Silly turtle, he wasn't going to– WOAH
"Are you alright?" New turtle asked with a frown, managing to keep Mikey upright as he tilted too far to the side, almost losing his balance "that fall looked pretty bad"
"Pfffft. Of course!" Mikey dismissed with a wave of his hand "Nothing can keep Mikey the king of ice skating down for long" was it too early to call himself that? Nah, he was totally claiming that title "That's me, I'm Mikey"
The other turtle's eyes softened
"I'm Ghost"
Mikey's jaw dropped at that. An actual ghost? That seemed weird but… they'd already met the actual Robin so who was he to question that? The guy seemed pretty solid though. So that was just his name? It was a cool name, he had to admit.
Wait! Ghost as in Two shades of ghost? Mikey's eyes fixed on his sticker. Did that mean…
"Oh dude!" He exclaimed, incredibly excited "We're up against you guys next round! You have to meet everyone, come on!"
Taking advantage of the fact that Ghost was still supporting most of his weight he grabbed the guy's right arm, dragging him towards the rink.
Ghost let himself be led, even taking care to make sure Mikey kept his balance as they walked.
This was going to be great!
He waved at his brothers as they approached but they seemed too distracted to notice him. Ralph was clearly having an argument with Leo, who was still inside the rink and seemed extremely unhappy with the current situation. Donnie was at their side, flanked by the four doctors, face twisted with concern.
From where he was, Mikey could hear some of Raph's angry shouts. Something something "Lost" something something "Mikey"
That was all he needed to know, really. He shook his head in exasperation before whistling sharply, catching the attention of the entire group.
His brothers turned immediately, their shoulders dropping with relief. They had moved almost in unison which was kind of impressive. It's not like they had rehearsed it or anything.
The doctors' reactions, on the other hand, were varied. Cameron did look relieved, sending him a warm smile. Foreman was amused, Chase clearly irritated and House rolled his eyes dismissively before going back to play to his Gameboy which wow, Mikey was jealous.
Oblivious to his thoughts, Raph started to approach, his eyes jumping to Ghost for a few seconds before fully focusing on Mikey
"What the shell were you thinking? You can't wander off like that" he said with a deep scowl
Okay, Mikey could understand his brothers being a bit wary of this whole tournament situation at first but this whole "grrr overprotective older brother" thing was starting to get old. Change! Evolve! Adapt! Stop glaring at strangers Raph! Mikey was trying to introduce you to new people!
"I was gone for just a minute and look!" He said, not letting his mood be affected by Raph's attitude as he pointed excitedly at Ghost with his free hand "I met someone. We're up against his team next round! He seems really cool! And his name is Ghost!" He turned to the turtle in question, who was giving the humans a few wary glances.
Well, that wouldn't do. He tugged at his arm again, moving closer to the group. Maybe he could show him that they were harmless.
"These are my bros and the doctors! They're humans but they're nice" he said with an easy, bright smile. The guy could just be a bit shy but the clarification wouldn't hurt "There's also another Mikey and the real Robin in our team which is awesome, really"
Instead of introducing himself, however, the guy's face stayed completely blank which was… kind of concerning. He was emoting less than Leo on a bad day.
Ghost fixed his eyes on Donnie. Raph and Leo visibly tensed at this.
That wasn't a good sign either
"Are you sick?" Ghost asked him, worry tainting his voice
Obviously, his brothers weren't happy with the question, especially Donnie who flinched slightly, giving Ghost an uncomfortable grimace. The reactions were more sadness than anger though, their expressions dropping as they tried not to look at Donnie. Because apparently his brothers still weren't getting with the program. The doctors were here so Donnie would be fine.
But, this change in demeanor meant that the situation was definitely salvageable. They just needed some cheering up.
He knew that the guy had given him good vibes. This was just a tiiiiiiiiny little hiccup. They'd get over it.
Before he could intervene, however, Ghost spoke again
"You should be resting, you don't look well" he continued
"Yeah, we know" Growled Raph, annoyed
"It's fine" Donnie managed speaking over Raph's protest as he waved his hand dismissively, doing his best to give Ghost a polite smile "I… am trying to take it easy, don't worry" which was definitely a lie but Mikey had to let it slide this time for the sake of FRIENDSHIP "But, if you want to help I was wondering if…"
"He's not going to tell you anything useful, kid" House said with a snort
There was a beat of silence.
"Yeah kid's dying, you can't help him. Very sad, whatever" the man continued with a shrug "We've been over this. It's getting a bit repetitive"
Mikey felt his smile falter
"Don't interrupt him," Ghost said to House, voice suddenly sharp and cold. He glared dangerously, the slouch leaving his shoulders. "If you talk to them like that again, you're not going to have a tongue to speak with." He looked back to Donnie, expression, voice, body language softening again. "I can help," he said. "I've spent my entire life figuring out mutant turtle anatomy"
Ghost thought he could help Donnie get better?
Mikey bit his lip. The increasing annoyance he felt as everyone kept trying to make things more difficult, to escalate and start fights when they should be working together was suddenly drowned by a surge of hope fluttering in his chest.
He ignored the guarded looks Raph and Leo were sending each other, feeling his grip on Ghost's arm tighten slightly
"Oh!" Exclaimed Donnie "I've just been trying to find out if anyone's had the same problem as me since there are a lot of similarities between universes" an edge of desperation creeped into his voice, words coming out faster "I-I also know a lot about mutant anatomy but… I am drawing a blank"
"Hey! This patient is taken" said House looking between the two of them with a raised eyebrow.
The other humans became visibly alarmed at this. Chase and Cameron exchanging a silent, fearful look while Foreman hissed a few unkind words at House, trying to get him to shut up.
He ignored them, of course, and waved Ghost away cane in hand "Go find a different one, shoo"
Ghost's bo staff was suddenly pressed against House's chest, keeping him at a distance. He stared at the doctor with a glare that could kill. "Are you kids in danger with these people?" He asked the turtles, voice tense.
Ah shell. This was exactly what Mikey had been trying to avoid.
He felt like that time he had tried to prank Raph with those little gel balls that grow when you put them on water and ended up flooding the sewage system within a few block's radius with them.
Everything was getting out of hand fast
Cameron raised her hands in an attempt to pacify the older turtle
"We are not looking for trouble" she said firmly, eyes jumping between the other three humans "We can talk this over but everyone needs to calm down first"
"I am calm" Replied Ghost, not moving an inch
This was when Leo, in all his leaderish glory, decided to intervene, swiftly jumping over the wall of the rink.
Unfortunately, like Mikey, he still had his skates on so his landing was far from perfect. He wobbled slightly in place, his feet locked into a stiff, uncomfortable posture, knees almost touching
Of course, because he was Leo he tried his best to seem unperturbed by this.
"These people are helping us" He said firmly. Oh no, he was even trying to pull off his intimidating speech voice. That one was reserved for the important fights so Leo thought this guy was a serious threat "we are responsible for their wellbeing so I would appreciate if you put down your weapon"
Leo drew a single katana and then made a terrible mistake
As a reflex, guided by years of training, he adjusted his footing, one feet moving slightly forward while the other fell back in perfect position
The problem was, naturally, that he usually wasn't wearing skates when he did that
His center of gravity shifted, sending him slightly back and, judging by the startled, wide eyed expression, he hadn't been expecting that.
At all.
Luckily –because even it would have been very funny if he had actually fallen over, the katana was still in his hand and that could have been a disaster– Leo managed to catch himself by using the barrier as support, letting out a small, absolutely hilarious, undignified squeak
The damage was done, however, because this would forever go down into the family history as one of Leo's biggest fails.
Mikey couldn't suppress a loud cackle and he could hear Raph snort lightly. Donnie was smiling now, as were the doctors
"Yeah" said House with a smirk, voice heavy with scorn "and you've been doing such a great job so far"
Leo completely ignored the taunts, trying to act like this was all very reasonable and normal as he stared Ghost down but, for someone as familiar with Leo as Mikey was… the embarrassment in his face was very plain to see
Oh, poor dude. He would totally offer to give him a hug but… Leo would absolutely not be down for that right now
Ghost easily put away his bo staff, his slouch returning. He didn't laugh or even smile, his gaze just softened, and he dipped his head in agreement to Leo. "If you say they're safe, then they are. But I would still like to help if possible."
Leo gave Donnie a quick once over before sheathing his weapon.
He nodded firmly at Ghost
"Thank you. We… would appreciate the help" he said with a small smile and a quick, slightly clumsy bow
Mikey watched the Official Declaration of Leo Approval with a grin
See? That's why Mikey had to be the one to handle these things.
Honestly… he didn't know what his brothers would do without him

If Knock was in Smash, what would their kit be? Smash attacks, recovery, taunts, grabs, Final Smash, shield break animation, stuff like that? Curious on what their quotes would be for different stuff too like being hit with light/heavy attacks, getting knocked out, victory quotes and all that too, but if this is all too much for one ask I totally get it!
Okay so this is actually an awesome question, and you bet your ass I'm gonna spend a shit ton of time on this. It's gonna be a bit tough since unlike most Smash characters, Knock doesn't have much recognizable... Anything really. But I mean, anything is better than Sonic's 5000 different spindashes.
So first of all, let's get the basics down first. Knock is the definition of a glass cannon. She's a lightweight with poor recovery, but she hits like a semi truck.
Her hitbox would be pretty similar to Sonic, since y'know mobians, a bit taller but that's about it.
She would hit hard, like Bowser level even. Not as fast as Sonic, obviously, but still pretty speedy. I'd say Robin is a good example of her speed, and her run animation would be long, powerful strides.
Now like I said, the drawback to her strength and speed is her weight, she's like Sheik.
NOW TO THE FUN PART, THE MOVES
Jab - Three pretty fast punches forward, each increasingly more powerful, followed by a quick and pretty strong kick.
Up tilt - Knock does a small leap straight upwards with an uppercut. Not very powerful, but fast and has some serious knockback. A great finisher.
Down tilt - Knock does almost a breakdance style leg sweep. Not super powerful, but fast with very little lag.
Forward tilt - Knock leans down towards the ground, and then does a horse kick in the direction she’s facing. Think of it like Sonic’s Forward tilt but more powerful and a bit slower.
Forward aerial - Knock does a powerful dropkick forward, with a pretty big hitbox. The move has some ending lag, leaving Knock punishable during this.
Neutral aerial - Knock does a spin in the air and swings her fist around her in a circle. Very minimal lag, but also not super strong.
Back aerial - Knock turns around and throws an overhand punch, much like King K. Rool in his back aerial, but faster and with less lag. Not super powerful though.
Down aerial - Knock does a quick one leg stomp dive downwards, and meteor smashes if the enemy is directly hit by Knock’s foot. Very fast and has minimal lag.
Forward Smash - Knock gets a boxing glove onto her hand, and winds up a punch, kind of like how Sonic winds up his punch. The punch can do some big damage, but it has some ending and start-up lag. It also sends Knock in the direction she’s facing slightly after the attack.
Up Smash - Knock does a 540 kick, much like Captain Falcon does in his Up Smash. It has some okay vertical reach, and it hits hard, but it has very noticeable ending lag which makes it very punishable.
Down Smash - Knock hops up into the air, and then does a heavy elbow drop/slam directly down, which stops until Knock either hits an opponent or ground. It is uncancellable. A pretty solid ability for edge guarding, though also a risky one since it’s a KO for you if you miss.
Dash attack - Knock leaps forward, and does a flying kick in the direction she’s going. It’s a pretty fast attack with minimal lag, but which doesn’t hit that hard.
Grabs
Grab - Knock grabs the opponent by their neck and holds them up (or downwards, if they happen to be taller). The grab is pretty fast, but has a very short range.
Pummel - Knock does a low punch to the gut, like a bully taking my lunch money. Ow.
Forward Throw - Knock swings the opponent around her before throwing them forward.
Back Throw - Knock jumps up and throws the opponent behind her by swinging them underneath her mid-air.
Up Throw - Knock lets go of the opponent for a split second before executing a double kick that sends the opponent straight up.
Down Throw - Knock goes in for a roundhouse kick that bashes the opponent onto the ground.
Edge Attack - Knock jumps up from the edge with a quick leg sweep.
Specials
Neutral Special - Knock leans down and picks up a small rock, before throwing it in the direction she’s facing. The move has a little bit of start-up lag, and doesn’t do much. Basically just her one ranged choice.
Side Special - Knock lunges forward, and quickly bites the air. If an opponent is hit by this bite, they will not only take a heavy hit, but also get poisoned. This is important for Knock’s moveset, as it gives her a solid way to do damage over time.
Up Special - Knock jumps up into the air with a backflip, and does a sweep kick around her. A very strong attack with a lot of start-up lag.
Down Special - Knock crouches down, and crosses her arms in front of her face as a block for a second. If an opponent tries to hit her during this, Knock counterattacks with a quick leg sweep that leads to an overhand punch that stuns the opponent for 2 seconds. This attack is similar to Little Mac’s down special.
Final Smash - So this was a bit tough, since most characters in Smash have a recognizable move as their final smash. I was thinking of maybe being lazy and just making Super Knock, but I refuse to give any of my OCs super forms. So, I came up with something. Knock lets out a battle cry, before running forward in a straight line. “ARE YA READY TO RUMBLE?!” Every opponent hit by her along the way is thrown into a cinematic boxing arena, where Knock beats the everloving shit out of them, absolutely walloping on ‘em, kicks and punches, before finally the screen zooms in on her fist, and with a final, incredibly powerful uppercut, sends the opponents flying! This final smash is harder to hit than most of the others, but it is always a guaranteed KO.
And now some miscellaneous stuffs!
Appearance - Knock lands on the battlefield from the sky, superhero landing style!
Idle animation - Knock blows her hair tuft up from in front of her eyes.
Up Taunt - Knock confidently flexes her arms. “Come on, then!”
Side Taunt - Knock bursts into a laugh, crouching down while trying to contain her laughter. Oh, and she has a snort laugh.
Down Taunt - Knock plays the air guitar! “Woo! Let’s do this!”
Victory Screen 1 - Knock does the rock-on hand symbol while eating a chili dog. “Hah! Didn’t even put up a fight!”
Victory Screen 2 - Knock cracks her knuckles before doing a sick backflip. “That’s it? Hah!”
Victory Screen 3 - Knock adjusts the cuff on her glove, before turning to face the camera and punching it. The camera is now facing Knock from a downwards angle, with her looking down at it. “Give me a challenge next time, will ya?”
OH AND For the music in the victory screens, I know the music would probably be just the Sonic level clear music BUT I had to also throw Junker Queen’s theme from Overwatch in here since she’s Knock’s voice claim and I feel the theme works for her a lot.
Alternate Costumes - I don’t have much ideas for this, but one of the recolors should be colored like Surge just for their similar designs.
Kirby hat - Knock’s ponytail, ears and hair tuft.
Shield Break Animation - Knock holds her head and struggles to keep standing as the cartoony stars float around her head.
I didn’t have much else for quotes since most characters in Smash Bros have just grunts and screams for their moves, and also because I suck ass at dialogue lmao. So Knock just grunts and screams when anything happens.
THIS WAS A TIME CONSUMING ONE BUT MAN I HAD FUN WITH IT!!! I would not be against doing this with other OCs in the future :>
Thank you for the question!

now that i've S-ranked every stage in the DLC and also completed the map, just have some final junk thoughts from the sonic frontiers dlc (plus me raving some more about the music) before i move on to another game :)
i know i mentioned that playing as amy is the best out of the new playable characters, and i still stand by that opinion, but MAN is tails' MAX rings cyclone flying ability fun as FUCK. like, i kind of have a hate-love relationship with it. on one hand, who the hell doesn't like flying around the island at max speed? like, oh, there's something all the way over there, let me just ZOOM right over in a few seconds!! AND the fact that you can control its height unlike knuckles' flying is just insanely cool. on the OTHER hand though, yes it cheapens tails' flying ability because honestly once you get the cyclone ability, you don't even have to do any of the set-paths that the game wants you to follow to get to the map kocos or skill kocos. you can just fly up to them and boom, didn't have to do the set path. which is kind of sad because those can be really fun and satisfying to complete, so what i'd end up doing was get to the area where the map koco would be, and instead of just flying up to it, try to follow the path and get the map that way to not just suck the fun out of the entire thing
but also, that one M-puzzle where it lit up 3 or 4 red beams of light all across the island and you had to reach all of them under a time limit??? MAN i think that was my favorite puzzle of all!!! i first bumped into that one when i was playing with amy, and at first i thought i was gonna have to come back to it with sonic since i didn't think i'd get another character that would be as fast as him (also didn't have the spin dash ability yet since this was early in the game). but holy shit once i unlocked that ability and saw just how fucking fast you could fly around the island (skells from xenoblade x my beloved), i immediately went back to that puzzle and just completed it as tails. just so damn awesome!!
and SPEAKING OF the spin dash....wow. amy, knuckles, and tails may not be as fast as sonic, but they become just as fast as him with this skill. and i can't believe i went through the entire main game without using the spin dash more often. spin dashing around the island and abusing the hell of its physics was just something that never got old, even in the sonic stages. i don't think i ever used the fast travel with the portals since i mean....spin dashing everywhere the island is just like a damn dream come true: it's always something i'd do in sonic adventures' mystic ruins but at a smaller scale, but this time? the ouranos island is fucking huge and gorgeous and then with that beautiful music playing in the background and just rolling around everywhere at high speeds AAAAAAAAAA this game is honestly just the perfect sonic game!!!!!
i think i already talked about this earlier but the new stages were super fun and actually challenging to S rank, unlike the main game. there were some i wasn't too fond of (like that one where sonic's speed as "gears"?? what was that lol) but overall they were a joy to replay over and over and try to bring my time down. i think my favorites were definitely 4-A (with the rocket boosters and beehive-looking things) and 4-B (the one with the hologram tails and the falling platforms).
the music. GOD how does sega keep doing this!!! every single new character theme is just so on fucking point, but i gotta say amy wins this one as well: there's something just so hauntingly beautiful about her theme that just honestly fits the overall mood of the game. but honestly, all just so good. i neeeeed to get my hands on the ost, especially since i'm late to the party and realized that now they have a GORGEOUS BEAUTIFUL AMAZING remixed version of the windy and ripply (emerald coast 2) song AKA a song so dear and beloved and nostalgic to my heart that just thinking about it makes me want to cry tears of joy. like, running around the islands with that music playing in the background is just so freeing and beautiful and exciting that just makes you feel glad that you get to experience a sonic game like this.
oh shit got sidetracked talking about this game's overall out-of-this-world soundtrack again um um um what else. i mean, i really don't know what else to say except frontiers just knocked it out of the park and surpassed my expectations in every single way possible. as i was playing the game and would just be exploring the island and completing puzzles/paths, i'd just keep saying to myself "this game is fucking amazing" every once in a while. sega just fucking nailed the 3d sonic formula and any doubt i had about an open-world sonic game was just thrown out the window: i couldn't stop thinking about this being a MUCH larger, more fun, and more gorgeous version of running around mystic ruins than i could have ever imagined, and it's exactly the type of exploration freedom that i had been itching for in a sonic game.
and it goes without saying that sega bringing back amy, tails, and knuckles as playable characters was just soooo fucking good and refreshing to see, and my god did they do them justice. last time they were all playable was, what...sonic adventure?? really?? like, holy crap. sonic frontiers really was a love letter to 3d sonic games and ughhhh i just can't stop saying good things about it. EVERYONE NEEDS TO PLAY THIS GAME!!!
anyway!!! can't wait to see where the sonic 3d series is headed after this, but for now, time to wait for sonic superstars (holy shit that's soon!!!) since that looks fun as hell too, and that's me saying it as someone who prefers 3d sonic vs 2d sonic!
