If you're doing this, happy world-building Wednesday! Across your world-building what trends would you say your worlds have? On the flip side, what worlds of yours would you consider almost "complete opposites" if any?
So all my wips are technically in the same world, but different parts of the world play by very different rules do to how the world as a whole functions.
That said, trends are definitely that magic has consequences, language and it's meaning are very important to the people whether spoken, written, or other, and the concept of life and death are very interconnected and inseparable. (my life/death deities tend to be the same person)
As for complete opposites, Dusken and Faedaal (and Glassfeld) are rather opposites because of their aesthetics and inhabitants, with Dusken being the catch all of Esharial, hosting people from across the shards and being almost entirely rather bright and loud city in a shard of almost eternal rain and storm and more technology than pure magic focused, whereas the other two are fae shards of beautiful if mostly empty scenery, with tight packed communities scattered throughout of almost exclusively fae.

The Faedaal Compendium
[This is a multi-WIP “(re)intro”/little bit of blog news/tag list info post that got long so it’s under the cut!]
Tumblr media
Faedaal is a world of unrivaled and enchanting beauty, old and powerful magicks, and clever and mysterious inhabitants. But be warned, dear reader, for it possesses a bloody history, full of life and death, banishments, fear, deceit, wars, betrayals, obsessions, and so many more secrets. For ours is a fantastical but cruel world. This journal contains histories, songs, rumors, and tales of those who have lived, fought, loved, and died here. Their stories are those that claimed their own happy endings no matter what it took. Despite what they endured and lost.
So tell me, will you learn of and join them?
Starting a tag list for general world building posts (including my poems as those are mostly related to the world building), let me know if you want to be added to this list! I am also going to have sporadic, mostly night and weekend posts from now to July due to a busy life! I’ve also begun to feel a little burnout on my main WIP so MAY be focusing on others for a while (though I’m really bad at sticking to what I say I’ll do)! 😂
...
The Hourglass Series
In a time when many fear the death of magick in Korryn, Ryn just dreams of completing her studies in the White Spire. That changes when a long thought abandoned cult summons a dragon. An accidental bond sets her down a path she’d never dreamed of, and that she can never return from alongside her best friend. But what they uncover will lead to uncontrollable power, and a war that may destroy Korryn as they know it. Or its heroes.
This is planned to be a trilogy, is my top priority, and I am well into its first draft!
The current tag list it  @childrenoflight-darkness-nothing @queenmirabelle @timefire25 @tea-and-pirates @anthemotworld @tieflingish @songsofaleria @dahladahlabills @scribbles-to-feed-the-void but let me know if want to be added or taken off this list!
...
Nightfall
The plan had been perfect. Flawless even. So when royal guards arrest her for the theft as the palace, Dahlia knows there’s more going on behind the scenes. But its only when her execution fails seemingly through magical means and she’d framed for the failed assassination of Evashen’s prince that she begins to question what she knows about her home...and the Gods. Cass has questions too, namely, why would the royal family hire her to kill its heir? And what could fate possibly want from her and a notorious thief?
This is the technically newest one so I have the least planned for it and subjected to a lot of change, but I’m really excited for it and will be getting content soon-ish!
The current tag list is @abalonetea @anthemotworld but let me know if you want to be added or taken off this list!
... The Grey
Two months ago, the First Princess of the Court was killed during an attempt on the Queen’s life. Only five people know what really happened. All were sworn to secrecy. Now Erra must work to unravel a millenials old history of Faedaal before more blood is shed, while Selena is haunted by the ghost of the Princess and memories of the events leading to her death. What both uncover may rewrite history and their own blood.
My oldest WIP that has undergone the most change, I fell out of love with it for a while and realized I needed to massively over haul the plot after working on Hourglass and realizing how much fun I was having with it. I have not abandoned it though and instead happy to report that I am once again excited to write it and its main character Erra (once known as Eris)!
This one has been heavily changed from what it once was, as in most content prior to this has little bearing to the new story, so I can understand if you want to be removed, but the current tag list is  @abalonetea @stand-inthe-rain @james-stark-the-writer @anthemotworld so let me know if you want to be added or taken off this list!
...
There is also a LoZ fanfic I’m working on, but that has been put on hold until an undecided date well after the summer!

Faedaal Creatures
Griffs
Appearing to be half avian, half feline, many believed Griffs to be a smaller variation of the Griffin, only being about the size of a house cat. They have the legs, fur, torso, ears, and tail of a cat, but the head, wings, and feathers of a bird, most often an owl. The feathers extend from their neck down their backs, to their tails, with the fur covering everything else, and both fur and feathers usually match, ranging from black, to brown, to white. Though mostly found in the forests, these creatures seem to be domesticating themselves as more and more appear in towns. It is even believed that they are drawn to magic, as they will often gather around Caster Spires and many are taken as familiars.

Beings of Faedaal
It all begins with the deities, or rather it all beings with the Goddess of Life and the Goddess of Death, but that is a discussion for another time. For now, know that the goddess and gods were the first to walk this world. From them came four three different beings: Fae, Humans, (and) Nymphs. and The Grey.
[Continues under the cut]
Fae
Seen as a favorite of the gods, they were gifted with cunning words, able to bind anyone to their will through them alone, but at the cost of being unable to ever lie. Do not be fooled into thinking this prevents them from misguiding you into a bad deal. Fae are known to be skinnier and taller than humans on average, with long pointed ears, ever so slightly sharper teeth, and their skin is bluish or purplish in tone. Their eyes are larger as well and tend to be lighter in color, resembling the crystals which they make their Courts from in the safety of the caverns underground. Perhaps it would be best to leave their customs for another day as well.
An interesting note here is that Keepers are members of the Fae that are completely immune to magic, though how this happened is completely unknown. This has produced an interesting side effect of making them able to sense magic around them, though it is reported that different people experience it differently. Outside of this, there is no other notable difference. [A note has been scribbled into the margins: When exposed to enough magic or traumatic events, though this is exceedingly rare, it seems that Keepers are able to gain elemental abilities. If pushed too far, I wonder if it would have similar results such as Demons?]
Though the exact reason for the existence of Goblins has been lost, are we really to believe that old story about the vain and greedy Court? it is nevertheless clear that they diverged from Fae at some point in history. They have retreated farther into the extensive cave systems and their obsession passion for beautiful things has only grown. Their teeth are sharper, their ears having drooped slightly from elongating even more, and their eyes have grown smaller and lighter, almost white, and their skin seems to be more leathery and almost cracked in appearance.
Humans
The most widespread numerous visible of all beings, they have completely taken over the surface world, creating large empires over Faedaal. They also actively seek out the other groups the most and new places. Truth be told, few actually understand this group, as they have become exceedingly powerful despite any inherent abilities. Perhaps divine blessing has been invoked? Need more be said?
It should be noted that Casters are, technically speaking, not a separate group from Humans, as anyone is capable of becoming one with enough dedication. Though, it can be said that certain lines do have a better mastery over it. The only physical difference tends to be the graying of the skin after long exposure to magic, and of course, the glowing of the veins and eyes when they cast. Demons are Casters who have overexerted their magic and as such are incapable of using it. Their skin, eyes, and hair have permanently grayed, and they are forced to live off being near magic. No instances have ever been recorded of this being reversed, and they are generally shunned from society.
Sirens are a strange group to be sure, as no one is quite sure where exactly they came from. There are quite a few stories, such as the famous love story between a deity and Fae girl, but their physical similarities are more akin to humans. In fact, the only physical difference is the large bird wings on their back, and their hair matches their wings, and bird legs. They have the ability to create convincing illusions for anyone who hears their song, seeing visions of their deepest desires, and falling victim to whatever the Siren tells them to do. Their wings have allowed them to spread across the world, but they seem to prefer islands and isolations. Perhaps due to the suspicion shown towards them by other beings?
Nymphs
Nymphs are beings of nature who are easier to discuss based off three groups. However, given their secretive and shy natures, it is hard to gather information, making this section the second most incomplete.
Dryads can appear as beings or creatures with bark for skin and grass, vines, flowers, and leaves for hair and fur. There power allows them to control the growth of plants. More information depends heavily on the type of plant from which they are derived.
Frostbitten have white skin, and hair like ice, also capable of taking the form or beings or creatures, but it seems once these forms are decided they are unable to shift between them like dryads. The world freezes around them, and they are only known to inhabit the Wastes.
Mae must remain in waters, taking the both Fae and creature traits at once while in water, but disappearing outside of it. Almost nothing else is known.
Desert Nymphs? Reports have been made of people seeing these beings, but the validity has never been proven.
The Grey
[Apparant attempts have been made to erase any information pertaining to-]

Faedaal Pantheon
Lehia-The Deity of Creation, Life, and Death
If there was once a realm or domain specifically for Her, it has been lost from even the oldest legends of our world. For as long as Beings have walked the Faedaal, Lehia has walked among them, a curse without end placed upon Her by her fellow Deities. The reason for this curse, has been lost to us as well, though, if you ask me, it was for the cruelty towards Her own creations. Her attitude seems cold and cryptic to those Lehia has talked to, providing both threats for their futures, and apologizes for her actions.
It is said that everyone will see Her twice, for She is the first face you see upon birth, and the last upon your death. Those unfortunate enough to have glimpsed Lehia and lived say She is a tall figure, with deep red eyes. Her skin is as gray as a Demon’s, perhaps this is where the rumors of Her being their creator as well originated. That, I can assure you, is untrue, however. There is a point to her ears, though hardly as noticeable as those of the Fae despite what they may claim, and her hair is long and black. Accounts differ on whether the long, lacey dress She wears is black or a very dark purple. The final noticeable thing about an encounter is the warmth one feels in Her presence.
I’m sorry, but there’s not much else I can say. Much of Lehia’s story has unfortunately been lost, or perhaps destroyed throughout the passage of time.

Faedaal Creatures
Dragons
The creatures from your darkest nightmares. Dragons are said to be the children of Mella, terrifying beasts from the Realms of Dreams and Magics that entered the world of Faedaal. It is said they can live for thousands of years, and some believe they are the Grey reborn into the world. Beings of magic and dreams, they can create illusions, control elements, and once they have found a victim, infiltrate their mind. Dragons often vary in accounts of their appearances, either having two or four, or no legs, and accounts vary on their wings, but most agree that they are massive beasts with large appetites. A lot of accounts seem to agree that they have two sets of eyes, multiple horns, scales, and a cold and cruel heart.

Faedaal Holidays
Dawn of Guardians
After the year of fighting to survive, when the threats to the Court were finally near non-existent, the Queen honored all those who protected her and all the people of her Realm. For all those who lost their lives that year, a sword was buried to its hilt in the courtyard in which they trained at night, and in the morning a large feast was held and attended by all the people with the honored guests being the Guards.
Now, these have turned into traditions for most Courts, with some additions. After mid-day, most of the people had returned to their duties, but the Guards and Knights of the Court show their appreciation for each other through gifts and taking the day off of training. Any trainees are unofficially required to give gifts to their trainers, with hand-made things being especially valued, and likewise, trainers will honor their trainees' progress through letters detailing their achievements. Many people will leave notes, flowers, and sweets for those Guards who had helped them or Knights they admired. It is often true that at night they will hold informal dances in their training centers, catered either by themselves or the Court kitchen if they have a good relationship with the Guardians, and they decorate the walls and dress in pinks, reds, and silvers.

Okay but Faedaal might have two suns now, and I'm just imagining all the mythology that could come out of that, like two being an important number, the idea of their being two powerful deities that are lovers, etc ahhhhhhh

Faedaal Pantheon
Mella-The Goddess of Dreams, Night, Beyond the Sky, and Visions
It is said Mella appears as a tall female being, far taller than even the Fae, with skin the color of the midnight sky. Two large leathery wings sprout from her back, dotted with what appears to be stars, though they are normally folded behind her back when she walks. What should be the whites of her eyes are instead black, with pupil-less, pale blue irises, and there is no hair upon her head, but two black horns spiraling upwards. Those who have seen her say she wears a gray dress that trails behind her as she walks, and a sheer gray veil over her face and head, to mourn for her husband until he can finally return. The few who claim to have heard her voice say it sounds quiet and soft, like a lullaby.
It is known that she wanders the realm of dreams, watching over all those who enter. But she can never leave. It was here that she created the dragons, and sent them into the world, and it is here that she awaits the return of her husband and his followers. At night, it is her voice that one can hear in the still air, singing for all who listen, and it is night when she is the closest to the waking world. Mella is the one who offers visions to the seekers, it is her realm that brings dreams, and it is her children that bring nightmares. She is not known to anger quickly, but she is not easily moved to compassion either. Her manner is one of serenity. And sorrow.

Faedaal Creatures
Wolvine
At first glance, wolvine appear to be massive wolves, standing at twice or three times the size, however, this assumption is only half right. They are more like half-wolf, half bear, with the head and tail of a wolf, but the body and ears of a bear. Their bodies are normally a mix of thick black, gray, or white and various shades of brown fur, and they primarily inhabit the colder regions of Faedaal. These creatures are pack animals with their hunts being led by the older females of the group, and they are very protective of their own, caring for their sick and young. If one is found alone, be wary that the rest of the pack is either around somewhere, or something has happened to it. It is also worth noting that their loyalty makes them lifelong friends if you find yourself caring for a young cub.

Faedaal Locations
The Realm of Dreams
The realm of dreams is an awe-inspiring and fear-inciting place.
It is devoid of everything save the endless night sky and her stars, and the ground is shallow water in which it is reflected. To enter this place while awake is said to allow one the ability to see through the water as the Goddess does, showing the events of all of Faedaal, past, present, and future. To enter while asleep is to be at the realm or those within’s whims, being shown either the illusions born of the realm or visions the Goddess wishes to share. Or perhaps, falling victim to the illusions created by beings of far darker intent. Here, the air is forever misty and cool, and there is only the sound of rippling water and wind. And the faintest sounds of a lullaby.  This place is lonely. And beautifully serene.
Not all are able to enter this realm, as those untouched by magics cannot dream, and even those who do find they may go awhile without being pulled into it. Many Casters do meditate and practice entering this place while awake, though it requires a lot of training, and most can only stay for short times due to the absolute concentration it takes. It is unknown which creatures are able to enter and which are not. When and why those who can enter is often as hard to understand as the visions which they may receive, and there is a reason the casting word for dream and vision are the same, as they cannot always be distinguished from one another.  The realm is devoid of life, or at least, that is how it always appears, though some state that while visiting, they see things out of the corner of their eyes. Creatures they can never fully see or describe. Some have even claimed to see the Goddess who resides here herself. There are even those who claim to have spoken to her, but those are just rumors. Right?

What is Faedaal?
This world is as beautiful as it is dangerous. It is a world of magic and dreams, dragons and Fae, gods and nightmares. So many people trying to stay alive, trying to grab power, trying to escape, trying to become gods themselves. But this is also a place of hope and finding happiness and friends and family in times where everything seems wrong.
Faedaal is the name of the world in which all of my WIPs are set, though at different times in its history. I am working to develop its lore, the creatures within, you know all the basic world-building stuff. The Faedaal Compendium is the collective name of all of the WIP series I have due to the shared setting and other connections between them. There’s a lot.
Have a look around! Enjoy your stay! But remember, don’t tell the Fae your name, don’t look into a dragon’s scales, don’t follow the whispers, and never, ever, forget that you always have friends.
Creatures: Fae - Casters - Nymphs - Sirens - Deamons - Humans - Dragons
WIPs: Hourglass - Rising - The Grey - Bound - Nightfall

I finally made a map to start thinking about Faedaal! So, Hourglass takes place in Korryn, The Grey takes place in Revaice, Bound rakes place between Sirenic and Scorshed, Rising takes place on the border of Aice and Eiclos, and Nightfall takes place in Evashen and the war between them and Kolwraith!
Edit: Made with Inkarnate

Do you still look in the mirror?
Or are you scared to see?
Do you wish the path will be clearer?
Or know what it will be?
.
I know I’m lost.
So what’s the cost
To find my way,
Before I’m too far astray?
.
Can you face your own fears?
Or is your hope fading?
Can you stop your tears?
Or continue masquerading?
.
I know I’m lost.
So what’s the cost
To fix what broke,
Before it turns to smoke?
.
Will you stay with me?
Or is your future nearer?
Will you soon go free?
Or hold your past deare?
.
Before I fade away,
To see you stay,
So my heart does not exhaust,
I’m glad our paths have crossed.
.
Were you evading?
Or are you gaining years?
Were you done parading?
Or loving what appears?
.
Before I woke,
To what your words invoke,
So my heart does not exhaust,
I’m glad our paths have crossed.

Old War Ballad
Wary of the knowledge this story imparts,
We begin well before our history starts,
While our tale is told in these three parts:
.
Our ancestors learned gods’ magic as a gift,
All they wanted was peace and prayer for this lift.
And so they offered and all was well,
But the future they could not foretell.
And thus it was the world fell,
Far under these Casters’ spell.
But that time ended rather swift,
And between the Beings grew a rift.
.
Wary of the knowledge our words unveil,
We must continue on to not fail,
While our tale through history must prevail:
.
This time of peace ends from fear,
With whispers Beings begun to hear.
And as the gods’ order tore,
So turned the world to war.
With hopes of a future to restore,
An alliance the others swore.
This is when it turns unclear,
For these Casters disappear.
.
Wary of the knowledge we bring to you,
We must tell on to see it through,
While our tale is remembered by very few:
.
So begins our final verse,
With rumors of a curse.
Law of the world bends,
Dissolving the bonds of friends.
While the war finally ends,
So to does hope for amends.
Worried of turning worse,
Former friends now disperse.
.
Wary of the knowledge in these truths we’ve told,
We finish at the end of this age of gold,
While our tale is preserved from ages old.
