Feeling a Cool Breeze As I Stand on the Shores of Herbert Lake (Banff National Park)

Feeling a Cool Breeze As I Stand on the Shores of Herbert Lake (Banff National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the south while taking in views across lake waters to more distant shores with evergreens and then snowcapped peaks of the Bow Range with Fairview Mountain, Mount Aberdeen, Mount Temple, and Little Temple (based on the PeakVisor app on my iPhone). What drew me into this view was the layered look with the lake waters, then evergreen forest, and then finally the mountain peaks.

Tips on choosing the best home inspector :  Are you looking to search out an excellent home inspector in Asheville? Before you purchase a home, it’s always a decent idea to induce knowledgeable home inspection, a choice which will significantly impact your satisfaction along with your future home. Even if the results of the inspection mean you comply with and accept the house as-is at the contract price, an honest home inspection can provide you with valuable insights into the property you’re buying and facilitate your plan for future maintenance and repairs. A home inspector’s job is to examine every visible inch of a home inside and out. The inspection should cover everything about the property from top to bottom. But a decent inspection should provide you with enough information that you simply can make an educated decision on your own. It's customary for home inspectors to share the document with their clients and their assets agent. A home inspector is unlikely to provide you specific estimates for repairs, but he or she will be able to. A home inspector usually provides you with advice on whether a needed repair will be an outsized or a little job. The house inspector is accountable for telling you what you would like to understand about the house you're fascinated by.The following tips will facilitate your finding a home inspector that you just may be pleased with, someone you'll be able to trust to produce you with all the relevant facts about the house you would like to buy. Here are some ways to find the best inspector for you home:Use Google to search for home inspectorsIf you're new within the Asheville area or don’t know any home inspectors, the primary place you'll want to start out is Google. You'll be able to do a web search using. You must get results showing inspectors located within the Asheville area. Now the hard part begins. You'll start doing a touch of research on the house inspectors in Asheville that you simply have found. confirm your research reviews and any references you discover. It also is smart to try to do another search on the company to make sure nothing negative is posted online. Using Google to search out a home inspector could be a good start, but there are other methods you ought to fall back on if they're available to you.Get a reference from your real estate agentOne of the most effective resources for selecting a home inspector should be your Realtor. Does one know your land agent well and trust them? Does one feel they need your best interests in spite of appearance and don't seem to be more concerned about their pocketbook? If you'll be able to confidently answer these two questions within the affirmative, then there's no reason to not trust your Realtors’ advice on who to pick as a home inspector. If your agent has been in business for any length of your time, they have probably encountered quite a few home inspectors in Asheville. By observation, your agent can see who does an intensive job and who doesn't. An exceptional buyer’s agent, one who wants the most effective for his or her client, will have a pair of home inspectors they know to travel through a home with a fine-tooth comb. A trustworthy agent won't be worrying about whether choosing the “tough inspector” will cause the sale to crumble. If you simply met your property agent and didn’t know them that well, you'll want to contemplate finding your inspector in Asheville. Some property agents will “steer” their clients to a hand-picked list of home inspectors who are less observant than others when it involves finding problems.Look for a home inspection company that is bonded and insuredWhether you go together with a big company or one inspector engaged on his or her own, you wish to make sure that whoever examines the house is bonded and insured. Sorting out about insurance is one of the foremost important inquiries to ask when interviewing for a home inspection.Depending on your area, a home inspector could also be able to conduct business without insurance. The matter with uninsured home inspectors is that they'll try and hold you or the homeowner liable if they're injured during the inspection. If the inspector isn't bonded or insured, I will be able to cross them off your list immediately. Before selecting a home inspector in Asheville, you ought to confirm they need insurance.
Get copies of license and insurance documentsMany, though not all, states require home inspectors to be licensed. Some municipalities may require licensing. A certified home inspector will provide copies of his or her license and proof of insurance.Get home inspector referencesAnother key consideration for selecting a home inspector is sound references. It's always worthwhile to ask for references when hiring a service, and residential inspectors aren't any exception. Ideally, you wish to urge new references from a minimum of some different clients. You can ask each customer about his or her experience with the inspection company. Did the inspector seem knowledgeable? Did he or she present itself on time? Was the report comprehensive and comparatively easy to understand? That's why it’s helpful to urge multiple references. The more people you refer to, the clearer an image you'll have about the company’s work.Identify Qualified and Trusted CandidatesTo find a reputable inspector like Affordable Inspections Inc. in Asheville, first ask friends who have recently purchased a home whether or not they recommend the person they used. You'll also find referrals through local online communities like NextDoor or Patch, where members sometimes post their experiences. A crowdsourced directory like Yelp, and residential services sites like Angie’s List and HomeAdvisor, might also be helpful. If you reside in Asheville areas, you'll check the organization’s ratings of local home inspectors.Once you’ve found some candidates, search online to work out whether there are any complaints about them. Try doing an online search with the name of the company and such terms as “complaints” and “reviews.” Your local Better Business Bureau chapter might also have information on the house inspector you’re considering.Choose an inspector who wants you around during the entire inspectionWhile you're not required to go along for the inspection, it's in your interest to try and do so. The house inspector can explain all the various things he or she is trying to find and provide you with valuable insight into the state of the house. If you prefer to purchase the house, your trip with the house inspector will offer you an opportunity to determine where everything is in your new home and can allow you to require note of any areas that will offer you trouble within the future – whether or not they're not major issues without delay.Ask for a sample reportWhen selecting a home inspector like Affordable Inspection Inc. in Asheville, it's helpful to work out what their home inspection report seems like. Home inspection reports can be available in many alternative formats, from walls of text to colorful reports with photographs. You'll have a better time reading the report if it's designed to be accessible. Any inspection company you're considering should be ready to send you a sample report so you'll see if the format works for you.Ask about experience and certificationsHow long has the inspector been in business? What percentage of inspections has he or she done? Has he or she taken specialized courses? attempt to find an inspector like Affordable Inspections Inc. in Asheville, with experience within the form of home you're buying. Confirm you hire someone who does inspections full time instead of as a side job.How do inspectors communicate?Communication is a very important part of the house inspection process. As homebuyers contact candidates, they'll get a way of how the inspectors communicate with their clients. The homebuyer should note this and consider the inspector's communication style. The homebuyer will want to seek out candidates that they convey well with, so as to induce the foremost out of their inspection and report. Buying a house is one among the foremost expensive purchases the general public make in their lifetime. It is smart to hire the best home inspector possible. The additional money you spend getting a top home inspector is well worth the money. Hopefully, you have found this guide for getting a home inspector to be helpful. Take the time and make the effort to seek out the correct home inspector in Asheville for your individual needs. A home inspection may be an expense on your part, because it buys you peace of mind.If you would like a certified and licensed Home Inspector serving Asheville. Please feel free to call and schedule your home inspection to Affordable Inspection Inc. in Asheville.

British Columbia's longtime environment minister, George Heyman, says he's decided not to run in this fall's provincial election. Heyman, 74, said in a social media post that serving the people of his Vancouver-Fairview riding since 2013 has been a great honour, but he won't seek re-election in October. "I think I have one more career in me, and I'd rather start it at 75 than 79," Heyman said in Victoria on Monday. He said he will endorse former Vancouver city councillor Andrea Reimer to seek the NDP nomination in the newly formed riding of Vancouver-Little Mountain.

Setting
CODY, WYOMING - THE DESOLATE TOWN
Once prosperous and a niche tourist attraction for pioneer-loving Americans, it now only holds a fraction of its former population of nearly 10K. Though it maintains its quaint, Wild West look and boasts incredible mountain scenery, Cody no longer functions as a bustling town but has rather come to be known as Outpost 82414, named for the town’s zip code. Here, residents can still find non-perishable necessities and access the radio broadcasting stations.
FAIRVIEW CREST - THE ABANDONED SUBDIVISION
Otherwise known as the abandoned subdivision, Fairview Crest is a tract housing development that features block after block of similar looking, if not identical, homes. Built sometime before the Lehman Brother’s bankruptcy, it’s value crashed along with the US housing market and it was left mostly empty and forgotten until the Blast happened. Now, it is where most of the citizens of Cody are living, having managed to get the power and water turned on for the subdivision. It’s eerie, with derelict vehicles and empty houses here and there that have been repeatedly vandalized by rowdy local teens. Most denizens travel via bicycle or on foot, with some even using horses.
THE MARKET
A weekly free market hosted by the leaders of the community. Here, local farmers, tradespeople, mechanics, carpenters and medical professionals gather to offer their services to the rest of the town. As money is worthless, transactions are based on a barter system of produce, favors, and valuable possessions.
CASPER, WYOMING - THE RUINED CITY
A three day walk from Cody and a larger city, or at least it used to be, Casper is home to a now defunct oil refinery that maintains large, ominous tanks of petroleum converted from the nearby Salt Creek Oil Field. The city itself remains mostly deserted, and citizens of Outpost 82414 also come here in order to ransack the hospitals for medical supplies whenever they run out.

Started yesterday w/ The Haze lifted & pushed off to the horizons. The road was straight & easy passing irrigated cornfields & yellow grasslands. The mountains to the north were gentle & rounded. Their grassiness looked like brownish silk velvet w/ bleached yellow highlights.
An hour later as the roadway climbed higher, the mountains started showing the tops of their rock foundations. 30 minutes later they sprouted Spruce trees that gradually found their way up the sides. And before me, dark green mountains rose. The passage thru the mountains was narrow w/ sheer rock walls that reached up to the blue sky.
When the road came down on the other side I noticed what looked like a navy blue lake thru the trees on my right side (North). At Boardman, the road ran winding along the side of this "lake" w/ steep forested mountains on my left & exposed rock walls w/ grassy tops on the other side.
I realized the lake was the Columbia River & the curvy roadway ran beside the water's edge between the walls of the Gorge. This passage was made treacherous by the wind that whipped up white caps across the broad river. So many stunning vistas & all the "Vista Points" were in the dullest locations. I slowed down to 60mph & didn't care who rode my bumper while I kept shouting, "O-WOW!"
At a bend in the river, I could look ahead to where the Gorge narrowed many miles away & only there could I see a faint curtain of haze that turned out to be mists rising from the first of 4 hydroelectric dams. At The Dalles, there were tall waterfalls on my left! Only an hour & a half from Portland, I decided to come back to explore this area when the yellowing deciduous trees reach their full Fall colors.
Eventually, the sky filled w/ gray clouds & the highway turned away from the river to enter the Greater Portland Metropolitan Area. I let out a whoop when we passed Fairview where 2 of my Zillow Favorites are. I could not stop grinning. When I got off, the Interstate onto Columbia Blvd, I knew where I was! I was coming home to the Motel 6 where I stayed last year!
Naturally, it's changed, renovated by new owners. The Spanish speakers are gone, replaced by Hindus. The desk clerk, Ven, helped me unload half of the contents of my RAV & get it up to my room. I tipped him $20 & will pay him $20 more today to help me bring up the rest.
I especially need the warmer clothes in my biggest suitcase because I woke up cold & had to put the thermostat on 78 before I felt warm again. This week is only a taste of Fall. Next week, the temperatures soar back into the 80's. By the end of September, I may regret packing the suitcase w/ my coats & sweaters in the POD.
But today, I'm finally gonna take a shower, recover from that exertion, get the RAV cleared out, & hit the nearby Walmart Marketplace for groceries. Tomorrow I'll look for a car wash because the RAV is filthy inside & out.
I'm getting w/ my Realtor on Saturday to start house-hunting!
YAY!

Living Free Animal Sanctuary and the Fairview Fire (California)
One of my favorite places/destinations in the Palm Springs area is the Living Free Animal Sanctuary in Mountain Center, California. (We visit when we can, and contribute $$$.) It’s up the mountains toward Idyllwild, putting it in harm’s way for wildfires and other bad things. I was thinking about them when this Fairview fire erupted. Back in 2018, with another fire (I think it was called the Cranston fire), they had to evacuate the entire campus/facility of all the dogs, cats, horses, and other animals because the fire was creeping toward them. They got all the animals into safety, and the fire didn’t scorch them. Eventually, they brought the animals back, and all was good. It seems like the Fairview fire won’t be a bother, so long as the winds stay easterly. Here’s what I learned from Living Free staff today, with a map and a couple of photos taken from the sanctuary campus:

Booking a Shuttle to Lake Louise in Advance
To avoid parking lot chaos, booking a shuttle to Lake Louise in advance is highly recommended. This is especially true for the Lake Connector shuttle that goes between Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.
The shuttle is accessible from the Park & Ride Lot in Banff and offers a variety of departure times for Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. One ticket allows you to visit both lakes and return to the Park & Ride Lot at any time.
Park & Ride Lot
The Park & Ride Lot is a great way to visit Lake Louise and Moraine Lake without having to deal with the stress of finding parking in the park. The shuttle is only available if you book in advance online and it is often fully booked on the day or time of your trip. The shuttle runs every 30 minutes starting at 7:00 am and the last Lake Connector Shuttle leaves at 7:00 pm from both lakes.
The shuttle is busiest in the summer and on the weekends (especially during public holidays) when there are a lot of visitors. If you want to avoid this, try visiting during the week or during the winter months.
The Park & Ride Lot is for transit users only. Vehicles that are parked there for other purposes may be towed at the owner’s expense. Please follow the rules posted on the signs in the lot to keep the area clean and safe.
Moraine Lake Bus Company
In response to Parks Canada’s decision to ban private vehicles from the area around Moraine Lake, a local Banff couple has launched a shuttle service. They offer both direct shuttles to Moraine Lake and one that stops at Lake Louise for an hour. You can book these online, and the best part is that you can choose your own departure time!
The moraine lake bus Company was launched by Alexandra King and Jesse Kitteridge. The couple saw the need for a shuttle after hearing from visitors frustrated with the inability to see the sunrise at Moraine Lake.
The service offers a variety of options, including a round-trip shuttle for $49 CAD or $55 CAD. A 2-for-1 combo that includes a 1-hour stop at Lake Louise is available for $69 CAD. The reservation system opens at 8 am two days before your departure date. Reservations are highly recommended, as the shuttles often sell out quickly. Parking is free at Lake Louise, and you can use the shuttle to return there at the end of your visit.
Fairview Limousine & Shuttle Service
During the summer, parking at Lake Louise Lakeshore can be challenging and is often full from sunrise until after sunset. To avoid this issue, visitors should consider booking shuttle reservations in advance. Taking a shuttle eliminates the stress of finding parking and saves visitors money, as well as reduces traffic congestion and emissions.
Parks Canada runs a year-round shuttle from downtown Banff to Lake Louise Village and Lakeshore, as well as to Moraine Lake. You can reserve your shuttle tickets online and pick them up at the Park & Ride Lot. The Roam Super Pass also includes free access to the Lake Connector shuttle between Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.
In addition to the Parks Canada shuttle, Mountain Park Transportation and Fairview Limousine offer multiple shuttle routes daily. All three of these services can accommodate a variety of luggage. Additionally, all of these companies can accommodate service dogs (please contact each company directly to learn more). Lastly, you can book a combined gondola and shuttle package through WowBanff.
Parks Canada
Parks Canada operates one of the finest systems of national parks, national wildlife areas, historic sites and national marine conservation areas in the world. Through their roles as guardians and protectors, they provide opportunities for discovery and reflection, recreation and meaningful experiences on behalf of all Canadians.
A key to effective protection and management of park resources is understanding the ecological processes that control and influence them. Parks have extensive natural resource information systems to facilitate this, allowing them to identify important trends and issues that may be affecting park ecosystem health and function.
From the first federally protected area at Banff to Canada's newest marine park in Gwaii Haanas, Parks Canada tells our nation’s story through its diverse collection of places of wonder and discovery. Find a park or historic site near you and learn more about what you can see, do and explore! Then, share your photos and stories with #ParksCanada. Parks Canada is committed to protecting the health and safety of visitors, employees and communities. Visitor services will be gradually resuming at many national parks, national wildlife areas, historic waterways and national marine conservation areas across the country.

The Adventures of David Dashiki-Story of an African American Hero - Year of the Black Man -2024
Tumblr media
WHETHER WE WILL ACCEPT CIVILIZATION AS IT IS OR PUT IT UNDER A RIGID EXAMINATION TO MAKE IT WHAT IT OUGHT TO BE AS FAR AS OUR RACE IS CONCERNED-Marcus Garvey
I am disappointed. In fact, i AM DISGUSTED. Here we are in year 2024 and still we have not as a country defined , clearly defined, the role of the African American. In my research on Marcus Garvey, I recognized that he asked that same question 100 years ago. Since America has not advocated for our happiness and safety, it is our right to do so. His words challenged us to act immediately and courageously. Why are we so docile? What rushed us into seclusion while other groups have prospered? It is time. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was indeed, a magnificent triumph. What then limited its application and implementation throughout America? WE are not welcomed on Wall Street. Why have we not created our own. The doors of Silicon Valley, Princeton, Harvard, Yale, IBM, Microsoft, are closed to us. Why do we feel it necessary to continue to seek entrance or beg for ENTRANCE into them? We have to expand and enlarge our vision of what is possible for us. We should no longer doubt that we are not included in the grand image of an African American leading in the development of an all - inclusive homeland with broad strokes of participation by every citizen. Why are we not at the moment inventing airplanes and cars? Surely, we can own and manage banks and insurance companies. We have the talent to exercise the professions of law and medicine. Garvey asked the question, " Where are our leaders? Where are our men of big affairs? We are here and systematically excluded from participation in the big jobs and works by racism. I, Daddy Dashiki, am exhausted and irritated by the red tape, blue tape ,white tape and racist tape designed to limit our pursuit of happiness.
KIA, SAMSUNG, NISSAN, FUJITSU, MITSUBISHI, HONDA, HYUNDAI, ACURA, INFINITI, LEXUS, SUBARU, TOYOTA, sound so sweet. The melody of these enterprises ring in our ear and remind how we are frozen out of the ability to achieve their success. These are, in no way magical endeavors. God has not suddenly blessed them in so many ways that commercial triumph was inevitable. Nonsense! The mighty hands of racism have allowed their mercantile accomplishments. We, can replicate their astounding economic feats. They are industrious and determined. So are we. We have had higher mountains to climb and wider rivers of racism to cross. Today, we choose to ignore the obstacles and focus on victory with our plans.
We have to dream larger. We have to know that the obstructions and impediments are part of the struggle. However, they do not represent hindrances, They are the training grounds. We spit on them and get busy with the work. Marcus spoke about our lack of people in prominent places as symbols of our progress. We need not guess what we must do. It is there for all to see. Possess the land. Where are our hospitals ? Marcus declared, " If I cannot find them, I will help to build them." We do not have hospitals to serve our own people. We will help to make them. Mount Sinai, Sloan Kettering, North Shore, Nassau University Medical Center, Avent Health, Baylor University, Fairview Park, Genesis. These are the models of excellence that we will follow to do for ourselves.
Where are our banks? Chase, Capital One , Barclays, TD, PNC Bank, Here are the models we can emulate. Where are our franchises? Burger King, McDonalds, Wendys, Subway, Arby's Taco Bell, KFC, alas, we need not fear. The opportunities to copy for success are limitless. Where are our cars, inventions and car dealerships ? Buick, Ford, Chrysler, Mercury, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Jeep, Dodge, just cast your gaze to the neighborhoods near and around you. We must dream huge. For we will become what we think about all day. Might we own these places, these banks, car dealerships? What? Why not ? Dream Big!
Where are our sports teams? There will be many offered up for sale. There will be others for whom, we, Black athletes, have won pennants and even world series. We should be in consideration in the moment of a sale. The METs, Dodgers, Reds, Marlins, Braves, when they are ready to sell, we must be there. Our reach will include the sport of Basketball. Where are they? The Knicks, NETS, Bucks, Lakers, Hawks, Nuggets, these are money magnets which generate such ridiculous amounts of revenue that they can pay their players millions of dollars for one season. Dream Vast !
Where are our supermarkets, departments stores? Asians are fearless. They have so flooded the market with their products, that it is said, "From the time you rise from your bed and until you rest your head, you have interacted with at least 5 or more Asian products or devices." Where are our products and devices, Marcus Garvey was correct. We have to flood the world shamelessly with our intelligence and ingenuity. It is a sign of progress. It a sign that we will not allow racism to stifle our dreams . It is the ultimate sign that we, African Americans have grown some balls.

Excerpts from After the City
working on a new chapbook, made revisions to a revision essay. Here are the first two sections; I'm still happy with it. Won't ever be final until print (fingers tightly crossed).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the City
Behind the window of this FX, this bus, this jeepney, nananaginip ako. The billboards, electric lines, cars, streetlights zoom in and out of sight, out of time; mga nakaabang na pasahero, memories, personal geographies, maps drawn on my palms, waiting sheds na ‘di naman nagagamit, eskinita; makulit. Nung bata ako gumagawa pa ako ng mga kwento, ngayon patalon-talon na lang ang isipan: nandun pa naman ang mga kwento: tungkol sa New Manila, inside neon-lit Cubao bars, underneath remote lots in Fairview. The official narrative of Quezon City says the man dreamed of a place where the common tao can grow roots and wings. At some point, these stories became true. ‘Di natapos. Tuloy ang kwento. He redrew the borders on the map, rearranged buildings, structures of power, roads here, roads there, sana’t sakali:
I.
In the mornings on the way to school, the sky opens up by the Donya Carmen turn. Fairview ended here: Commonwealth breathes open from tight road to highway. The buildings are always changing and the roads keep widening, the traffic never goes away. They’ve cut the trees down to make way for a new MRT, but the view. It’s remained the same since we moved here in 2006.
And I asked her about home. She told me of the sprawling plains of Nueva Vizcaya, the hidden waterfalls, their school in Bayombong, the cave her father named after her, and the houses on mountains where they would bring books to kids. There’s a river that’s important to her. She told me about the time her ex took them there after a fight, and they made love inside his car.
            She apologized.
            I told her it’s alright.
There is a city in me
and it wants to keep going.
