Gin Poached Salmon

A simple but rather elegant dinner, Gin Poached Salmon is deliciously soft and flavourful. Happy Tuesday!

Ingredients (serves 2):

1 litre/4 cups water

1/2 lemon

1 tablespoon juniper berries

1 teaspoon coarse sea salt

1/3 cup good quality Gin

2 (150-gram/5.30-ounce) salmon fillets

Pour water in a large, deep skillet. Squeeze in the juice of the lemon halve and add it to the skillet.

Stir in juniper berries and coarse sea salt. Bring to the boil over medium-high heat.

Once boiling, stir in Gin. Gently lower the salmon fillets into the skillet, and cook, 5 minutes. Then, reduce heat to medium, cover with a lid, and cook, about 10 minutes more.

Serve Gin Poached Salmon with Chives and Chervil Cream, and a side of Green Beans, New Potatoes and Cherry Tomatoes.

We’ve gotten a lot of Danny as Talia’s son prompts and AUs, but hear me out: Danny as Dusan’s son. 

 For those who don’t know, Dusan is Ras al Ghul’s son, practically his second in command, who would have been his heir if not for being albino, which caused Ras to consistently reject him. So how is he his second in command?

 Well after giving up on getting his father’s respect, he left and secretly returned as the White Ghost, working his way up the ranks. 

 Now I don’t know about you, but that gives a lot of opportunities for how Danny could be his. Maybe he met Maddie during his travels and got curious about other fighting styles, maybe it was a one night stand while Maddie and Jack were taking a break, maybe they had an open relationship. Heck, maybe he’s not even biologically Dusan’s but got adopted after he saw (to him at least) a child getting repeatedly shot at and rejected by his parents for being born the way he was, at least from what he observes. Maybe he just trains this white-haired death-touched child and later encounters each other again after a reveal gone wrong. Honestly there’s so many options.

Salmon Chirashi (Japanese "Scattered Sushi")

The Brave Blossoms gave it their all and kept the game against Argentina close in last Sunday's game' first half; but eventually, Los Pumas roared and the Japanese couldn't repeat the historic feat of their home tournament four years ago, and did not qualify for the quarter-finals. They showed great skills, and great class and thanked their fans, bowing to the supporters after the match. This Salmon Chirashi, which take little time and few ingredients to prepare, and yet makes a delicious meal pays homage to this vailliant team's strength and humility! Happy Thursday!

Ingredients (serves 2):

2 cups leftover cooked fluffy white rice

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

1/2 cup frozen broad beans (or edamame if you can find it easily!)

1 small, ripe avocado

1/2 lime

a fillet fresh salmon

sushi ginger, to serve

In a medium bowl, combine rice and rice vinegar, stirring well to combine. Spoon vinegar rice in a steaming basket, and fit it over a pot of boiling water. Cover with the lid, and warm, about 10 minutes.

In a small saucepan of salted boiling water, add frozen broad beans.

Peel, pit and dice avocado. Squeeze lime juice generously over the avocado.

Using a sharp knife, cut salmon fillet into slices just a bit thicker than sashimi.

Spoon warm vinegar rice into two serving bowls.

Arrange salmon slices, avocado dices, broad beans (or edamame) on top. Garnish with sushi ginger.

Serve Salmon Chirashi immediately, with soy sauce, a chilled Japanese beer or Matcha Honey Soda!

last night i was blessed and able to try patagonia’s roasted garlic spanish mackerel! (google pic bc i was in an area with terrible lighting)

y’all. this shit was SO. GOOD. i’ve never had mackerel before at all but heard such good things about this brand, being able to find it at central market was a pleasant surprise :))

i pan fried some sourdough in the olive oil it came in (lil garlic pieces 🥹) and paired with little tomatoes, onions, and two options of hummus and cream cheese! both were delicious but i’m a cream cheese fan so. obv that’s the move

will be getting this again.. might use pickled onions next instead and fresh tomatoes when the garden tomatoes are ready :)) so excited. god bless

BIG additions coming to Salmon Run in Fresh Season 2023!

Lots of exciting news fresh out of the Japanese Splatoon twitter today, and a ton of them are about Salmon Run, so let's dive into it! As you can no doubt see in the image above, the Splatoon 2 Salmon Run work uniform is being added as new rewards available for purchase with Fish Scales. It even comes in some new colors!

But that's not the only Splatoon 2 throwback, as that game's monthly gear is also returning as a new reward!

Additionally, new time-limited contests are being added, with the first one launching in April. In these events, you team up with friends and play through five pre-set waves that are the same in every single attempt. Like Big Run, you'll get rewards that change depending on your global ranking.

Speaking of Big Run...

A new one is starting soon! March third (or fourth, depending on your time zone), next weekend at the time of writing, taking place at Inkblot Art Academy. Like the first one, participation is rewarded with a trophy, though I can't say I've seen anything resembling it before.

Except maybe, no, because that would mean...

...that the sightings of the new King Salmonid, the Horrorboros, are real after all! Run for your lives!

Bruce definitely knows how to cook, but he's one of those guys who goes to the grocery store to get ingredients for a meal. For every meal. His fridge is normally completely empty except for protein shake ingredients.

Clark grew up with a rural family, he's definitely used to scrounging around in the cupboards and throwing together ingredients into something cohesive. My guy can take half an onion, an alien mushroom he found, some ancient lentils, and a container of leftover soup, and make a full hearty meal.
