"Sir," she said, looking Coulson in the face as she sweated with both the disease and fear. "I know the protocol for these type of situations. I just..." she paused as she thought of the correct words.

"Tell my Dad first...He'll be able to break it to my Father," she said, tearing up a bit with an awkward laugh. "They all think he's so unemotional but, he's really not..." She wiped at her eyes quickly, trying to get through this. "Tell my Uncle Mycroft that I love him," she said before getting to the hardest possible good-bye. She took a deep breath, "And please tell Quentin that I didn't mean for this to happen and I will miss him quite terribly." She wiped her tears away again as best she could, trying to keep her emotions in check.

I apologize if I'm overstepping (no pressure to respond/feel free to delete), but I really get what you mean. Oh my God do I right now. Supposedly I'm the most bubbly, upbeat person who makes everyone's life a bit better because of the way I talk about plants and animals and the joys of connectivity and nature... And yesterday I looked out at my garden and thought about how a few months ago pulling invasive plants would help. A little. Sometimes a lot. And now knowing it doesn't even make a dent makes it so much worse. (I'm downplaying so much right now.)

People don't understand that if your brain doesn't want to do something, there's no one 'thought' that's going to fix it. No 'action' that sets it in motion the way people think.

I'm sorry you're here, too. It fucking sucks. There's a bunch of us, for what it's worth. But I'm still wishing you easier thoughts and better days.

thank you for sharing your experience, and i'm so sorry you're going through the same thing right now - though also comforted to know that i'm not alone in this. i love the world, i love nature, i love plants and animals and other human beings and art and music and literature... or at least, i want to. but when i'm really in the soup, as i have been lately, i can't feel that love any more. i can't feel anything. it's just a grey fog. a numbness. and being told that it's my fault for not being moved by these things - that i'm just not looking hard enough - infuriates me.

i try so hard to do all the stuff i'm supposed to do; even on my worst days i make sure i shower, brush my teeth, eat at least one meal, leave the house, talk to another person, draw something, read something, et cetera. sometimes it helps. most of the time it doesn't. it's a lot of effort for not much reward, and increasingly it feels less and less worth it. i wish i was able to experience the world fully and earnestly, with an open heart, the way i used to - but that capacity for feeling seems to have gone, and i don't know if it's ever coming back.
