You may not have known that October 7 was National #Ageism Awareness Day. 📆 This year the Barbie the movie and the Golden Bachelor have very successfully positioned older adults in a positive media light. Efforts are being made to challenge and reduce ageism in the fitness industry, but there is still progress to be made.
Many #fitness facilities, trainers, and even fellow gym-goers may hold stereotypes and prejudices against older individuals. This has real world consequences.
1. Lack of Inclusivity: Limited options for age-appropriate workouts or training programs
2. Employment Discrimination: Older fitness pros face difficulties advancing due to the perception that they are less marketable compared to younger trainers. (See Peloton)
3. Limited #Representation: Chronic underrepresentation of adults over 60 in fitness marketing & media reinforces the idea that fitness is primarily for the young. This lack of relatable role models can discourage older people from engaging in fitness activities.
Promoting a holistic fitness approach that embraces inclusivity and age-friendliness offers widespread advantages, fostering lifelong well-being for individuals of all age groups. Moreover, it’s a wise financial investment.
The “senior” demographic, encompassing individuals aged 65 and older, is both sizeable and diverse, spanning over three decades in age differences. These generations continue to wield significant economic influence and possess distinct preferences in their interactions with brands.
Changing perceptions does not occur overnight. It begins by embracing #Life Experience, #Empathy & #Understanding of unique needs & challenges.
Fitness should be accessible and welcoming to people of all ages and abilities. Take a moment to consider the images and opportunities in your community.
Please know whether Gen Z, a millennial or a perennial, H2shO™️ Fitness is here. #WeSeeYou 💕

Could I do it? Present the musical Hamilton in a narrative water workout in 45 minutes? This was an idea 💡 that gestated in my mind since 2018.
Living in NYC and in close proximity to the theater district, I don't really like to play Broadway Original Cast Recordings in their entirety unless it is a collaboration with the actual production. For me, it's about authenticity and art. However, Hamilton was different on so many levels.
The musical songwriting is so rich. The change of tempos, the blending of hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway posed an intellectual challenge. Also, there are so many WORDS. How do I keep the narrative flow, create a fluid movement choreography and coach so I don't step on the lyrics.
I worked on it, on-and-off, for years. I would workshop one song at a time. Then Summer 2023, the workout was introduced to the world 🌎. 🤯

Via @show_score I had the privilege of being invited to the opening night of #TheStrangeUndoingofPrudenciaHart as it begins its limited engagement through April 30.
The winner of the 2017 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience is the most original, delightful and exciting theater experience I have had in recent memory. It is a definite MUST SEE.
The Club Car at The McKittrick Hotel is a perfect venue to stage this one-of-a-kind magical entertainment. Upon arrival you are transported to a pub in Scotland. The year is 2010, an authentic spirited Scottish band is performing. There are free scotch shots awaiting you and it is general admission seating, first come, first served. (If you wanna sit together with your party, I advise you arrive early.)
As I settled at my table, I was given beverage napkins and asked to tear them into small pieces to create snow, to be used during the performance. Yes, this is an interactive theatrical experience.
Without giving much away, I shall say you will bear witness to an academic, Prudencia Hart, as she dances with the devil, and her own demons, on the evening of the Winter solstice.
The Scottish theatre fable is alternately funny and poignant, always ingenious. A tale told at times in rhyming verse, spoken dialogue, and filled with song, performed by a fearless talented cast that makes this scripted affair feel improvisational.
Oh, did I mention #KylieMinogue plays an integral part in the storytelling?

One year ago today, I was featured on Good Morning New York. Prior to the pandemic, H2shO™️ existed solely in the pool. With a loyal and supportive following, I was able to master how to create original, FUN, uplifting fitness program for the land and online.
One day the anchor for the local FOX affiliate was walking through Central Park and spotted us out there. Having been living in survival mode for so long, it was so nice to feel seen and validated. The segment was record on December 23 and featured on December 24.
H2shO™️ Strength & shO Tunes in now entering its third year outdoors. In the pool, there’s H2shO™️ and its mind/body companion class H2shO™️ CLASSICAL. The shO must go on.

Reading the reviews for #KimberlyAkimbo is an argument why we need cultural diversity In reviewers. I intentionally went into the new musical without knowing anything about it. I left the show feeling the same way. #WTF was that? (Unlike privileged critics I actually pay to see things so I am invested in wanting to enjoy it. And I am not invested in the industry for access or employment)
During the second act, I found myself thinking…
🤔Who is the audience for this musical?
🤔What is the point of this intellectual exercise?
🤔 Is this even a musical? It’s more like indie play set to music.
🤔Am I being punk’d?
I can do weird. I LOVE weird. I don’t like specious.
The play is about Kimberly Levaco, born with a genetic aging disorder akin to progeria, appears to be in her 60s even though she’s just turning 16. Her father is an alcoholic, her mom is ridiculous and her aunt is a vicious con woman on the run. What happens next is really hard to state.
Once upon a time “artificiality” in musical theater was meant to underscore the “higher truths” or illuminate the storytelling. Now writers and producers are simply exploiting the gaps in our cultural education.

✅multicultural cast without an ethnic backstory
✅profanity
✅positive psychology
✅ gay stock characters as comic relief
❌meaningful hummable songs
❌reinvention
❌durable, fully realized characters
❌cohesiveness
It’s a hollow bunny! 🙄😖
The one rave is for actress Victoria Clark, 62, who sings & transforms in the role of a 15-year-old so beautifully you will root for her to be in a better show.
At this performance, I was surrounded by school teachers, who put on high school productions in the burbs, boasting how this show was worth the $24 they paid, due to some union perk. I rest my case.
P.S. KA debuted in 2019 Off-Broadway and was a critical darling. I don’t what was added or altered when it came to #Broadway. But if you can get a $24 ticket have at it. 🤷🏽‍♂️
P.S.S. I am assured there are folks who absolutely enjoyed this newly adapted work. You be your own judge. That’s the thing about theater, we all experience the same thing differently.

Classical Music 🎼, Water 💦 & Exercise 💪🏽, individually, are healing.
I envision the pool space, as a place where innovation can happen.  year long journey of creating H2shO™️ Classical, a soul-nourishing, performance enhancing, aquatic conditioning class. Introducing H2shO™️ Classical.
As the original H2shO™️ centers musical theater and pop culture, its CLASSICAL cousin takes you into the world of composers Bach, Florence Price, Elena Kats-Chernin and Max Richter.
Though music may be a motivator, NEUROPLASTICITY is always at the center of H2shO™️ programming choices. From sound to movement to word choice, everything I do relates to the brain 🧠.
For this specific project, I listened to lectures, reviewed 20 years of research on the effect of music on exercisers, questioned a neurosurgeon on how the brain processes instrumental music, consulted with physical therapists and reviewed research on therapeutic aquatic exercise. This academic work was the easy part. Then it was time to bring out the big gun.
I enlisted the expert advice of friend, shO girl & multi-hyphenate beloved artist @Clemency to explain both the culture of classical music and for exposure to a diversity of composers. Clemmie was generous enough to create personalized Spotify playlists. Her book best-selling book #AYearOfWonder is still my go-to resource.
Using the multi-directional movement possibilities provided by water, plus the musical textures of symphonic music, H2shO™️ Classical aims to strike a balance between the intellectual appreciation of music and the physiological benefits of vertical aquatic fitness. It is a 360 immersive experience. One that doesn’t require technical understanding of musical theory or superhuman efforts.
With war, a pandemic, a cost-of-living crisis, political turmoil and the climate crisis as part of our daily living, wouldn’t it nice to take a time out? Reserve both a time and have a dedicated space to be kind to both your mind and body. Join the shO.

Mudfuck the H2shO™️
I created a Stereophonic/Fleetwood Mac inspired workout I am calling Mudfuck. #IYKYK
Tumblr media
Stereophonic, a play with music, completely captured my imagination. Set in Sausalito 1976, it is the fictional story of two music engineers and a five-member band, consisting of two couples (one pair British/ One pair American) and their bandleader/drummer, navigating the creative process amidst rising fame, relationship tensions and addiction.
Playwright David Adjimi and songwriter Will Butler have gone to great lengths to distance themselves from comparisons to Fleetwood Mac. Perhaps it’s for litigious reason, but it’s a shame because the influence is so clear it’s undeniable. Simply watch the complete Fleetwood Mac documentary on the making of the Rumors album and compare plot notes.
Another curious marketing decision, in an overcrowded Broadway season, was the delay in releasing the Original Cast Recording. A play with music is a unicorn. Why not market what differentiates it from the marketplace? Prior to becoming the most Tony nominated play in Broadway history the box office for the play was anemic.
Tumblr media
Today’s Broadway is literally dependent on star power and existing IP, why not take the SIX musical approach and create your own IP. Music is a universal marketing tool.
youtube
Anyway, the Mudfuck shO blends the early music of Fleetwood Mac and the Stereophonic OBCR, referencing play plot points, Fleetwood Mac chronology and serving as a bit of a six-decade musical conversation. There is no schedule as to when it will be performed just shO up.
