Percy : *sarcastically* Well, aren't you sugar and spice and everything nice!
Will : Well, aren't you rudeness and sarcasm and....ummm
Percy : No, you go on. If you find something that rhymes with sarcasm and makes sense, you have my approval to date Nico.
Will : ......Shazam???
Percy : You definitely have my approval.

I really really really love how the show is depicting Gabe. In the books, Percy doesn't think much about Gabe - he sucks, he's a dick, and he's smelly. Percy doesn't understand why his mom stays with him, but he’s a kid - he doesn't put too much thought into the ins-and-outs of the relationship. It's not even until the end of the book that he realizes that Gabe's been actually hitting Sally.
And so all we have for him now is the time we spend with Gabe at the start, and…
Tumblr media
This is supposed to be his and Sally's apartment. Sally's the only one who brings in income, but the whole house is Gabe's. Only the one chair in front of the TV, even though Gabe said that he and Sally watch the Knicks together. His trash is all over the house, his poker table was leaning up against the wall... And he obviously feels like he is entitled to touch anything in the apartment, up to and including things that are explicitly Sally's:
Tumblr media
And then, when Sally tells Gabe that she and Percy are going on their trip to Montauk...
Tumblr media
He goes into the conversation expecting a bribe, and Sally already has one prepared. This is obviously a song and dance they've done plenty of times before.
Because abusive relationships rarely, if ever, look horrible from the outside. And they're not absolutely awful 100% of the time, either. Most abusers aren't cartoonish villains, nor are they awful to their spouses with every word they say. Abuse is often subtle, hard to notice, only clear in retrospect and when you consider a lot of individual instances of slightly off-color behavior all together.
This version of Gabe Ugliano isn't as obvious an abuser or villain as Smelly Gabe of the books, but he is more true-to-life - taking advantage of Sally, invading her privacy, the joint understanding that she won't be allowed to do something for herself and her son without his tacit approval. All of those are key hallmarks of domestic abuse, of a partner who has gained control over the relationship through emotional manipulation or physical threats and/or violence.

Stars in her eyes
Percy Jackson x daughter of Apollo reader
Warnings: Apollo reader who likes to stay up late and admire the moon, fluff, cheek kisses, fem!reader, use of Y/n
Summary: after a camp fire, Percy decides to stay behind in hope of getting closer to a certain child of Apollo
Masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The crisp and splatter of the fire was filling the silence that laid between them like a blanket. It was soft and comfortable, light on the skin. Y/n had her head lean against a tree, her eyes were focusing up on the sky.
The two never properly talked before. Sure, Percy saw Y/n around before, he noticed her. How couldn’t he? She was beautiful. Always a smile on her face.
“Aren’t Apollo kids supposed to like the sun more than the moon?” Percy asked her, his voice cracking at the end.
She didn’t look at him, still she answered. “I suppose so.”
“Then why don’t you?” He asked her, his hands playing with a small stick he found on the floor. His fingers were nervously fidgeting while he thought about a possible answer to whatever she was gonna answer him.
“I believe everything is beautiful,” she said, her voice softening with every second she stared at the moon. “And I can look at the moon, which makes it more bearable for my eyes to admire.”
She wasn’t as bright as the sun, but Percy still couldn’t keep his eyes on her, before his nerves got the better of him and he looked away. Not that she would notice. She had her mind elsewhere. It was all on the constellations and meanings behind the sky. It was where she couldn’t go to.
“That’s why most people aren’t close to her,” Annabeth told him earlier. “They aren’t willing to sit in silence for a long time, watching the sky like she does.”
But Percy was convinced, that he could watch her for a lifetime and not get bored. His eyes traveled over her face, taking in every little detail he could capture.
When he felt creepy for looking at her for so long, he looked up at the sky. You could see the moon but the stars weren’t as visible as they could be.
The boy stood up and took the water can to extinguish the fire. Y/n loosened her gaze from the sky above and looked at him. She really looked at him. Percy felt something inside him tighten as she furrowed her eyebrows at his action.
“Light disturbs the dark,” he answers. “It makes the stars less visible.”
When he sat back down, he sat closer to her.
“Thank you,” Y/n answered, moving her body closer to his as well. “Look, I appreciate your concern, but you don’t have to stay if you don’t want to.”
Percy looked at her confused, why wouldn’t he want to be by her side?
“I like being in your presence,” he simply answered, before looking back at the sky.
Y/n watched him for a minute longer before planting a kiss on his cheek. The boy looked at her perplexed. She was surprised at her action herself, so when he smiled down at her, she didn’t know how to react.
Percy found himself now more comfortable looking at her. He was closer, which made it easier to look at her. He noticed the way her lips wanted to form a smile on her face as she noticed his eyes on her. He noticed how her body leaned into his by the second. He noticed how he didn’t had to look at the sky to see the stars. She had them in her eyes. They were sparkling and shining bright.
The later the time got, the colder the weather became. The two teens were sat side by side, watching the moon and the stars, when Y/n’s body shivered from the cold. Percy noticed it from how her skin moved against his. He took his sweatshirt off and gave it to her immediately.
“Oh, no. Percy, it’s fine,” she tried to talk him out of it but Percy wouldn’t let her.
“Take it,” he said with a serious face.
Y/n took the sweatshirt from his hands before pulling it over head. It was too big on her, but it was comfortable.
“I think we should go back to our cabins,” she mentioned, gaining a nod of approval from Percy.
The pair walked back together in silence. As they stopped before Cabin 7, Y/n was about to take the sweatshirt off of her body.
“Don’t,” Percy told her, stopping her from giving it him back. “Keep it.”
Before she could protest, Percy leaned down and gave her a kiss on her cheek. The moonlight followed him as he walked back to his own cabin, making him visible to her. Her star.

Why the TV Show Version of Luke is a Better Person Than the Book Version
(Percy Jackson and the Olympians Spoilers)
While I will not argue about which version of Luke is a better character or better written, I can confidently say that the show version is a better person than the book version, and we see this mostly in the finale.
But before that, let’s go over what the book version of Luke did that the show version didn’t do.
1) Go unnecessarily hard on Percy during training, especially after he found out that he was the son of Poseidon.
2) When asked about who might have stolen the master bolt, imply that Annabeth could have in an attempt to plant seeds of distrust between them.
3) Immediately try to kill Percy after he got back to camp.
The show version of Luke is blatantly more sympathetic to Percy than the book version. He doesn’t antagonize Percy for succeeding on his quest or for gaining his father’s approval. In fact, he actually tries to recruit Percy at first. He doesn’t want to fight him.
However, the extent of the show version of Luke’s compassion can be seen with what he did for Clarisse. Or rather, what he didn’t do.
Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were the ones who came up with the idea that Clarisse stole the master bolt. Luke just went along with it. They even asked Luke to warn Chiron and the rest of the camp about her. It would have been trivially easy. Whether Chiron believed him or not would have been irrelevant. Either way, it would have helped his plan immensely, since he would still be sowing discord into the camp.
But Luke didn’t do that. And by not telling Chiron, they were able to figure his plan out. So why didn’t he do it?
Simple. Because he sympathizes with Clarisse.
I haven’t gotten a good look at how many beads Clarisse has, but it’s clearly around the same number as Luke and Annabeth, so it can be assumed that she’s been at camp for about the same amount of time as them, which is longer than most of the other campers. In fact, it’s not improbable that they were all in the Hermes cabin at one point while they were still unclaimed. And she’s one of the handful of campers confirmed to stay at camp all year round.
And Luke understands Clarisse. He understands her desperate obsession for glory. He understands her longing for her father’s affection. He understands her frustration when she is repeatedly ignored. He understands her contempt when her father finally does pay attention to her but it doesn’t go the way she wants. He understands her resentment towards heroes like Percy who seem to do the impossible without any training, with a seemingly perfect home life, getting both a mommy and daddy who love him.
It wouldn’t have been right to frame Clarisse. Actually, it would have gone against everything Luke was actively fighting for. All of the misdeeds Luke commits, it’s for the sake of his fellow demigods. And no matter what your opinions are about the show, this version of Luke reminds us of that.

Something about the way that the Gods have evolved and changed throughout the millenia. Something about the Gods in the stories being very different to the Gods we meet during the series. Particularly Ares and Posedion.
Ares, the personification of war, being honourable in the stories, but being full of rage and being blood thirsty by the time we encounter him in tlt, because today there is no honour in war today, war is brutal, cruel and it does not discriminate between the sinners and the saints. He was fiercely protective and proud of his daughters in the days of Sparta when mothers told their sons to return with their shield or on it, while today Clarisse spends her entire life trying to gain his approval.
Posedion has always been an enigmatic god. He changes like the sea. He can be calm, or he can be destructive. He can be possessive, jealous, prideful, and ruthless. But in this new millennia, he can set aside his pride. He does do so for his son. We see him almost cast aside the darker aspects of his being, this evident in his banishing of Kymopoleia. She represents the violence of the sea. She is the personification of his darkside. He banishes her to his old domain in the Mediterranean to keep her out of sight and out of mind. Their dynamic is one I wish we saw more of because it is fascinating to me. Kymopoleia, above all else, is her father's daughter. Poseidon's children all represent different aspects of him (Thesus represents his pride, Sciron and Crusty represents his greed, while Percy represents the best of him)
But perhaps that is why Ares is manipulated by Kronos and why Kymopoleia initially sides with Gaia. Ares knows better than anyone the cost of war, how many children has he lost? How many children has he lost in dishonourable deaths? All Kymopoleia wants is acknowledgement. She once stood by her brother as one of her father's lieutenants, only to be cast aside for being too much like her father.

Jenna Ortega’s fame: a blessing or a curse?
Tumblr media
Jenna Ortega, the bright young star of Hollywood, already has a cult of her own - crazy fandom that can make Selena Gomes and Taylor Swift jealous. And tarnish all her great achievements. How did that happen?
About a year ago Netflix released “Wednesday”, which immediately has become one of the most popular series of the platform and a real cultural phenomenon. Wednesday's dance went viral, prompting the teens all over the world to cosplay the goth girl and of course, Ortega, who played the main role in the beloved series, turned from a promising actress into a superstar.
But could we say that fame is a blessing for her? Along with unprecedented popularity, Ortega has acquired numerous aggressive, obsessive fans, most of whom are teenagers living more online than in real life. The behavior of these fans have already turned into a serious problem. Every new project involving Jenna Ortega is dragged into a scandal by the efforts of her own fans that throw absolutely every accusation in the book at her co-stars.
It all started in January, when Percy Hynes White, who played a part in love triangle with her in “Wednesday”, was accused in anonymous tweets of sexual assault, racism etc. The actor denied all the accusations and no legal proceedings followed. Ortega's fans meanwhile organized the massive campaign against White, justifying it with concerns about their idol’s life, both work related and personal. Ortega and White have repeatedly stated that they became best friends during the filming and although the status of their relationship is now unclear, many fans of Ortega continue to campaign against the actor, inciting to harass him on social media. White’s participation in s2 of “Wednesday” is still uncertain.
Tumblr media
Martin Freeman was the next to come under fire from Ortega's fans. Freeman is her co-star in the upcoming "Miller's girl" film, where his character, a teacher, has an illicit relationship with his own student, played by Ortega. The first trailer was released recently and immediately caused to resurface the accusation of racism, child abuse etc Freeman has. In less than a day the viral tweet gained more than 13 million views and Ortega's fans actively participate in spreading accusations and inciting the harassment of the actor. And the movie hasn't been released yet! There is every reason to believe that with the release, the hate snowball will turn into an avalanche and Freeman will become the next victim of the cancel culture.
The most ambiguous situation happened around another co-star of Ortega, Toby Wallace, who played her love interest in the recently released Paramount film "Finestkind''. Although Wallace wasn’t involved in anything controversial, did not actively promote the film together with Ortega and even skipped the red carpet premiere of the film, he was bombarded with hateful comments on his Instagram by Ortega's fans, who wished him dead (smt in portuguese), among other things.
Tumblr media
Perhaps the situation began to bother Ortega's PR team, because several big fan pages simultaneously called for an end of harassment of this actor, thereby only fueling the interest of others in the issue.
Thus, almost everyone who plays a love interest of Jenna Ortega in the movies finds themselves under attack from the actress' numerous and very active fans. Their actions create quite an unhealthy atmosphere of scandal around the young star, negatively affecting her reputation in the industry, because everyone of her colleagues risks getting bullied and canceled.
Miss Ortega didn’t comment on any of this and fans may see it as full approval, continuing to harass her co-stars on the Internet. Who is next? The release of a new film featuring Ortega and the Weeknd is to be announced soon, and the prospects for the Weeknd, already suffering harsh criticism for his Idol series involvement, are not very sunny.
In the upcoming film Ortega plays a stalker obsessed with the Weeknd’s character, a very controversial role in itself. Let’s just wait and see if he would be the new target for the Ortega’s stan cult.

Percy Jackson Headcanons
(A lot of these are inspired by other people’s ideas)
-Percy has Tattoos
Lots of little ones to symbolize his friends both dead and alive, obviously a tattoo devoted to Sally. But he also has forearm tattoos of the symbols of the gods and goddesses he respects, it’s only a rainbow, a firepoker in a hearth, and a silver arrow on his forearms.
-Percy introduces all his godly cousins by stupid names
Sally honestly wasn’t surprised when a god showed up at the door, she was surprised when Percy called him “cousin snake man and his two pocket snakes” (who he promptly fed rats).
-Percy has a New York accent It only comes out when he’s really angry, tired, or horny. Annabeth hears it more than others.
-Percy has long hair
It grew out past shoulder length while he was missing and he hasn’t cut it since. Both Annabeth and Sally like it, but when he grows a beard he looks like the Poseidon of myth.
-Percy can Cook
He learned from his mom and has never stopped. Baking, grilling, cooking, smoking. if it’s a type of cooking, he does it, and he does it well. Nico avoided Percy for two months after losing a pasta competition to him and even that wasn’t long enough to avoid the shame.
-Percy, Lee, Beckendorf, Silena, and Clarrise where all really close friends
It started when Percy wanted to learn to make stuff in the forge, which snowballed into Beckendorf basically adopting Percy and introducing him to his crew. It took a couple years but eventually Clarrise warmed up to him, they were a crucial part of each others mental recovery after the Titan war.
-Percy is a stoner
Just enough to keep the edge off but he refuses to touch alcohol due to Gabe. Beckendorf and Lee spent like 2 months researching demigods, filing a report, submitting it to Athena, and gaining her seal of approval on the “Study of Drugs on Demigod Physiology” (It basically says demigod minds and bodies are durable enough to nullify addictive chemicals and the negative effects of some drugs). The group celebrated the approval of such a study by smoking and watching the live action Alvin and the Chipmunks.
-Percy loves SpongeBob
Percy is currently giving Poseidon the silent treatment because he refused a burger cooking contest with him despite Percy pulling the golden spatula from the grease in front of him. Also, yes, Poseidon does look similar to early SpongeBob Neptune, and no he has no clue how Percy managed to smuggle a bucket of grease and a golden spatula into Atlantis.
-Percy is a pirate
After his third quest Percy went ape shit trying to fight the war and end it before it took anymore lives. It culminated in him carrying a gun at all times and rebuilding an old sunken ship to its former glory. He didn’t get to use it until the summer leading into the titan war where he sunk 4 ships transporting monsters and 2 ships that were moving illegal objects
-Percy doesn’t fight for Olympus
Percy has never cared about the gods beyond making sure they don’t hurt the people he loves. His speech during the battle of Manhattan was a call to the demigods to fight to protect each other, to protect their family, and to fight this war so the next generation of demigods might not have to. Him and every other counselor sees their jobs as protecting the youngest and newest demigods above all else.
-Percy is musical
Whether it’s because he has the sea coursing through his veins or something else he’s good at singing, guitar, and most instruments. He occasionally used to play as a joke for kids at camp. Now it’s mostly a coping mechanism for the wars and Tartarus, anyone that needs music to relate to is free to listen.
Most of the counselors and elder hunters have a shared memory of the night before the last day of the Titan war. None of them could sleep out of fear of the unavoidable casualties tomorrow would bring, so they gathered in the most secluded room and sat and mourned. Eventually, Percy broke out a bag of weed to help everyone relax since they couldn’t sleep while Percy and Grover performed a heart-stopping rendition of Peace Train by Cat Stevens.

[episode 4 spoilers] i don't think some people are getting the medusa/annabeth parallel right.
i saw a lot of people on twt saying that this time percy sacrificed himself for annabeth (as he was the one to fight the chimera), but that's not what i think the parallel is about.
athena punishes annabeth with disappointment, when everything annabeth wanted was her respect and approval. and yet athena punishes her because of percy's (son of poseidon) actions. that's the punishment, and that annabeth didn't escape.
then athena "gives her a second chance", at least that how i interpret it: she lets the chimera enter her temple, a sacred place, to test annabeth's loyalty, to see if annabeth would put her respect and love towards her mother over percy, again, and annabeth knows this, yet she still chooses percy: the right move, what athena wants, is not for annabeth to fight the chimera, it is for annabeth to embrace her spring and be logical, be strategic – to let percy behind. that's the right and smart move: percy was useless for the mission as he was wounded, the smart war move was to sacrifice him. and annabeth disappointed athena, once more, by trying not to.
even worse? that didn't matter. it didn't matter that she went against her mother wishes for percy, again, because he sacrificed himself anyway. because he played hero. late enough for it to be clear what annabeth was about to do. once again, percy took annabeth's chance to gain her mother's approval, and once again he got victorious in her place: he gained his father's, poseidon, help, he earned it with his heroic gesture; and annabeth, again, disappointed athena.
worse? medusa warned annabeth, they were the same: they wanted athena's love and fought for it, but then poseidon/percy got in the way. and yet both medusa and annabeth were the ones to suffer athena's disapproval.
percy didn't save annabeth from meeting medusa's fate. he helped it happen, he played his rol (unknowingly) as the son of poseidon

I’ve seen a lot of opinions going around about That scene—The Titling Scene—and how it differed from canon, and I wanted to offer my two cents.
First off, I was absolutely in the camp of folks initially being mildly disappointed by the way this was adapted. It was sort of an ‘oh. That’s it?’ reaction for me—which makes sense, since the titling scene is THEE scene for me in the original stream. Like, I was anticipating it so much, that it would almost be impossible for me not to be disappointed.
I do think the wording could’ve been stronger—I’m not sure why the changed the line to “do watch your manners towards a noble” rather than just “regardless of your relationship with her, do watch your manners,” unless they were worried that an audience wouldn’t understand the implication/why Percy chose to title her in that moment. But honestly, while it lessens the impact a little, that’s a minor quibble at the end of the day.
The bigger thing that I had an issue with—and what I’ve seen a lot of other folks have issue with as well—is that it isn’t the mic drop moment that it was on stream. Syldor doesn’t back down, he verbally attacks Percy over it instead. And that was… definitely frustrating, on a first watch. However, on a rewatch and some contemplation, here’s a couple thoughts about why I think they made the decision they did, and why I think it was the right one (even if I do still prefer the stream version akskfkkd).
1). Rather than talking over Vex, Percy empowers Vex to defend herself.
look, the titling is an incredible moment. Iconique. *chef’s kiss* Especially in the context of an improvised scene. But in a scripted show I can see how there would be something that might not sit right about having Vex essentially remain passive for the entire encounter.
In stream iirc she talks back to syldor more in the initial conversation, which makes the titling scene Percy backing her up. But in the show, in what I assume was an attempt to both show continuity to vex as a kid trying to gain Syldor’s approval and so that Saundor can reaaaaalllly focus in on the daddy issues stuff, Vex kinda shuts down for the first third of this ep. She reverts to how she was as a kid—where Vax has already yelled at him, she’s still trying to earn his approval. Which means, when it comes to the titling scene, if it played as is on stream, Vex would essentially remain passive the entire time, which… is less than ideal, honestly.
Instead, seeing Syldor berate Percy is the catalyst she needs to stand up to her father—to defend Percy, but also to, finally, defend herself. This is Vex’s arc—it needs to be fully about her an her decisions.
2). The titling is for Vex’s benefit, not Syldor’s.
Obviously, Percy wouldn’t just title anybody to make a point to a shitty dad, so this was very clearly always a gift to Vex. But on stream, in the moment, it does play as if the purpose is mainly to embarrass Syldor. (Which it does, spectacularly and gloriously.)
However, with the title being a complete no sell in the show, that means that the purpose it does have is on Vex—which their follow up conversation proved.
Which, honestly, I can get behind. Fuck Syldor, this was never about him anyways. Who cares what he thinks.
3). Economy of mic-drops
The Feywild arc in campaign 1 occurred over 5 episodes of critical role and nearly 17 hours of gameplay. TLOVM is telling that same story in less than an hour. In order to set up the feywild and Garmelie/Artagan (as well as leave a little time for some breathing room and character moments, after the breakneck pace of the first half of the season), they decided to pack two memorable, fan-favorite Perc’ahlia moments into 30 min.
In order for “My heart is someone else’s” to have the impact that it needed to, the previous mic drop moment needed to set it up, not overshadow it.
(And holy shit did it have an impact. The music, the realization, the determination in her voice. Percy’s lil eyebrow raise reaction shot… Let me tell you, I immediately ascended out of the material plane)
To go back to my original point, this needed to be Vex’s story arc, not Percy’s. Especially in such a short form media, the titling needed to serve her arc of overcoming her insecurities and not being emotionally trapped by the shitty relationships in her past. And I think they definitely adapted the scene in a way that served that purpose.
Do I like the original moment better, still? Yes. Yes I do. But I also really like how they decided to adapt it, changes and all.

The Keen Observations:
In the book, we see Annabeth and Grover and all the characters from Percy’s perspective. But, in the series, the screenplay has been tweaked in such a fantabulous way that we get to KNOW the characters for who they are.
Yeah, we focus a lot on Annabeth and Grover, and I love them to BITS, but honestly, the fact that we get to learn about Percy’s past is AMAZING! This was something we didn’t get in the book. This way, we will get to feel the bond between Percy and his mom - the ups and downs. This way, we will also get to know about Sally’s difficulties in being a single mom and raising a kid - except, said kid has ADHD and a tendency to attract all sorts of things. ALL.
I also think that this series is a way for Rick to get across things he didn’t or couldn’t in the book. Like I said, it was all from Percy’s perspective in the book. Now, don’t get me wrong, I ABSOLUTELY love Percy, and it was so weird for me when I started reading Heroes of Olympus, but writing in a single POV has its own problems. For example, we all know Percy never talks much about his own past. He deflects it with sarcasm, and he the most he does is dissing Gabe. And, in the books, this problem of neglectful parenting from the gods’ side is an underlying issue throughout the whole series, even till Apollo Trials, and we all know Percy is one of the first person to try and change this system, and gain more attention from the gods - not only for demigods, but for other minors gods too (THAT’S PERCY, MA BRO FROM ANOTHER MOM AND DAD). But, see, in the series, it’s a constant, right from episode one. So, in the eight episodes, they are addressing a major issue, and they are giving a smooth plot movement without deviating from the original storyline. And see, this is good, because in a way, it feels like us demigods are getting a really good version of what we already know, with additional bonus stuff. Now, change is hard, because our brains are hardwired to the PJO books, but it’s okay, because now we know what me missed! I, for a fact know that no matter how good the adaptations are, they can never live up to the PJO version I have inside my head. Think about Rick, then! He is the author! How could he have possibly gotten everything from the PJO world inside his own head into the books? There are just sooooo many things to say! So, see the series as a chance for Rick to say everything he wants to! Remember, he is on the writing panels - what we are seeing is approved by him.
I was wondering… Am I the only one who noticed that the episode titles are actually chapter titles from Lighting Thief?

I think the main reason why people see Amity and Hunter as more Sasha esque than Boscha may also lie in the screentime distribution. Boscha's not that prominent and only had like two episodes where she was relevant after season 1 and wasn't exactly that important in the overarching arcs the same way Amity and Hunter are on TOH or Sasha on Amphibia. Plus Boscha barely even had time for a redemption aside from some slight hidden depths in For the Future, but there still isn't much on Boscha's redemption due to how close it is to the end so it does make it harder to compare her to Sasha.
Oh, I 100% get this. Me going 'Boscha is TOH's Sasha' is not me trying to say people are idiots. I might have problems with how fandoms analyze things (and trust me this isn't just a TOH thing. I lived on the living room couch of a Trekie and Star Wars fan for two years while the sequel trilogy and Discovery come out. Online criticism fucking sucks.) but this isn't one of those cases. I have a unique perspective as a fan of Boscha so I'm far more likely to even think of her at all versus any other fan of the series, let alone in a positive light like in comparing her to Sasha. Then again, it's mostly a comparison through the fact that they do share vices as much as they could share virtues. I am weird like that though because my writing caused me to need to analyze the scraps we had.
I... pause on saying the lack of redemption makes her hard to compare. It makes it so less people will care because if you don't have a capital a Arc fandoms just kind of ignore you (and make sure it's capitalized or be ignored like S1 Anne) but I don't think it makes comparison harder. Not when Sasha's arc is not her personality or character. It affects her character but who she is stays consistent. Even post redemption, she's coming up with strategies and asserting force because Sasha is a forceful person. She is a leader and she cuts through bullshit, hence why Commander Anne has her obviously fighting against herself by trying to act like those aren't still a part of her character. It's actually part of what's great about the therapy angle for her because she is absolutely your therapist, NOT your friend and she will be the first to make that clear.
It's not like Boscha and Sasha have no similarities post Sasha's redemption after all. Sasha still gets pissed when people bring up things she's sensitive about and will absolutely throw down if you challenge her on her beliefs. She actually GAINS a similarity in being willing to listen to Anne versus just about anyone else, just like Boscha listens to Amity while nobody else. That's because it's STILL Sasha. Her redemption wasn't about her erasing who she was.
Her redemption, which is part of what is both good about her redemption and redemptions in general, is from a shift in perspective, not in character. She didn't suddenly become a good person. She always had the capacity for good. Her encouragement of Percy can even show that. She could uplift people even back then into being their best selves but it was purely for selfish reasons. Others didn't factor in beyond how they could serve her. Post True Colors though, that changed. She decided others mattered and so she started helping them as best she could. Zuko's shifting definition of honor is like this as well.
I'm kind of sad that in The Power of Love, my story where I wrote Boscha first, I never really finished her arc. Her shift in perspective was in not needing everyone to approve of her in some way anymore. To not have to fight everyone who insulted her or assert dominance over her surroundings. She found peace in just being herself. You actually had to give her a reason to kick your ass instead of doing it just because people fearing her still meant they respected her... But she'd still kick your ass if you did something that pissed her off. She still would call people names because she's kind of a bitch like that but there's less malice there, stuff that did genuinely start happening the story already as her arc progressed in stages. It also means though that her confidence is far more honest. She doesn't need your approval. She's awesome so you can go fuck yourself and if someone else is seen as awesome too? Good for them but it doesn't matter to her anymore so she doesn't need to do anything about them.
And I bring that up in part to show that you can go a lot of different ways with a redemption besides just making them a generically good person. That is not what redemption or growth should be unless that is genuinely who the person always was and then... Why are we redeeming someone who is apparently kind of boring? Their personality, their details, etc. like that should matter both to their villainy, their arc and who they are afterwards.
And well... I have kind of complained a LOT about TOH's arcs for being about character replacement rather than growth and so long as that stays true, just about no one in that show could ever even compare to Sasha. Not when post redemption, they barely have enough personality, let alone consistency, to reflect the complex teen. You have to look at the abandoned characters like Boscha instead for one that can accidentally even try to step to Amphibia's game.

is there any female characters you've never written about but would like to write? what draws you to them?
- folk melody
Ooh interesting question! Annabeth Chase, I think. I find her super compelling and complex—badass and vulnerable, super smart but still a kid, etc. Her fatal flaw and struggles especially compel me, and how she makes it through with the help of her friends (and I especially love her relationships—her romantic one with Percy, and her platonic one with Luke + Thalia). The way she strives for her mom's approval, the way she loves architecture like she loves breathing, the way she wants to go on a quest when she's even younger than 12 for the sake of earning even a glimpse of her mother's approval (Mark of Athena makes this even more tragic). The way she wants to believe the best in Luke...the way he tricks her for his own gain and forces the sky on her shoulders, the way she still holds him gently at the end because he's still her big brother, she still loves him. AHHHH
Also to some extent, Caitlin. Her backstory (the s3-and-onward one, that is, not the s1 one) and how that informs who she's become is super interesting to me! Growing up with a mom like Carla, who responds to grief by shutting down and was never super close to you to begin with...ofc Caitlin grieves similarly when her own husband dies twice (granted the first one is just presumed but still), of course she has trouble connecting with other women (she connects with Felicity just fine, but she struggles with Iris, and also with Jesse), of course her mother knows nothing about her life and wasn't invited to her wedding and only sent a card two months after her birthday (in April, when her birthday is in February). It's so compelling to me.
talk shop tuesday!

(same person, again not a hate ask but a genuine attempt at conversation) because the 'problematic' people you're talking about are actors and musicians. they're not people you personally know or interact with on a daily basis, and they're not politicians or any other profession where morals genuinely have a widespread impact on people's lives. it's not that you shouldn't care if someone is good or not, but i just don't see what calling out these non-important celebs does for anyone, especially since most of these call outs aren't even for a good reason*. if you're uncomfortable with them then you have every right not to support their work, but i don't get what people get out of constantly talking abt what they've done and how problematic they are, especially since the whole entertainment is pretty fucked up and most people have a few skeletons in their closet.
like for example when people made those lists of who sided with depp or heard during that trial. who the hell cares??? especially since that whole thing was crazy and turned into a media circus anyway. most people i know irl supported depp because they genuinely and truly believed he was abused thanks to the misinformation spread on the internet - and they didn't care enough to dig any deeper bc it was just celebrity drama to them (which is very valid) - not because they were misogynists. i am by no means a depp supporter (that man makes me extremely uncomfortable), but i also don't think that someone siding with him during that trial means that they deserve to be put on a Permanently Canceled list (especially since i recall one of those names on the list was mckenna grace??? who was a 15-year-old back then???) like, constantly looking for things to cancel people for just feels like unnecessary twitter behavior.
*by good reason i mean things like percy hynes white's recent SA allegations. those are things that actually need to be called out so that the perpetrators can face real consequences for their crimes. otherwise, what do you get out of it? literally nothing other than the pretense of being Morally Right.
celebrities decisions and morals do have an impact on people's lives. i'll use the same example you did for the depp trial, the celebrities that defended him did so by liking posts or memes that mocked a women actively reliving and gaining more trauma, they made jokes and made a mockery of her and her story. they laughed at a women crying, at pictures of her bruises and injuries. even if they didn't believe her, that is an insane level of apathy and it has so many ripple affects on abuse cases moving forward. by celebrities liking those posts, their fan bases will see that they approve of it and if they agree, they will follow suit. it's a domino affect. they see a stamp of approval by someone they admire or respect and think it's okay to do the same.
It's all a trickle down affect. If someone says a slur or does something else terrible, it inspires other morally weak people to do the same. People mocking the trial inspired others to make memes of abuse. That creates an attitude that lacks seriousness and respect around abuse victims and now it's a sociably acceptable thing to mock people who come forward with abuse. When someone says a slur it inspires others do the same and makes it common. When one person does it, it creates an air of 'oh.. if they did it i can' and it grows. Peoples actions, especially famous people who's actions are global, have consequences.
you saying it's 'very valid' for people to dismiss the depp trail as just 'celebrity gossip' is also truly insane and goes to show how little you've actually looked at the bigger picture. that trail was not just 'celebrity drama'. a women got publicly mocked for sharing her story of abuse and was threatened every single day. that case and the way it was run has pushed the way the world views/sees/acts on behalf of abuse victims back decades. every women who comes forward with abuse will be not believed and labelled 'another amber heard' at least once, guaranteed. that trial opened up multiple abusers minds to try and sue their victims, see Brad Pitt and Marilyn Manson suing their victims for defamation (just like Depp) who had the courage to speak out. and thats just famous people, i guarantee there's a huge spike in defamation cases with the everyday abusers to their victims as well. describing people supporting advice abusers, or in other cases slurs, acts of racism, homophobia, etc., as nonchalantly and simply as 'most people have skeletons in their closet'... is wild and once again says something about you not thinking it's that big of a deal.
that list I made of people who vocally and actively supported depp means they spit in the face of victims, approved of the way the trial ran, and let their fanbases know it was okay. And no one is putting them in 'Permanently Canceled list' because cancel culture is a myth and no one has anything happen to them. Louis CK, you know the guy who sexual harassed multiple women, just performed a sold out show in Madison Square Garden. That man traumatized so many women and he's dong perfectly fine. All for those celebrities on that list will be perfectly fine and literally nothing will happen to them because they are on that list. It was made to inform people and say 'hey, here's a list of people who supported a victim or at least felt gross about the way the trial was handled, and here's a list of people who thought making memes of women crying on the stand and mocking abuse was funny and approve of the message that was being sent to the entire world. Do with it what you will.' Cancelling people isn't a problem at all. It's literally just asking people to take accountability for their own actions and if you see that as a problem that's on you. What's also on you is your extreme lack of empathy for victims and the people affected by these actions including (but not limited to) people of color and the lgbtq+ community. 'who the hell cares???' i do actually, and so do the people it affects. Just because you dont care about other people doesn't mean none of it matters.

This has been sitting in my Google Drive for a while and I feel like sharing.
Brightstar.
It’s the difficult name, the family name that he will carry all his life. Whatever else he becomes, what other names he takes on, he cannot be rid of this one so easily. It comes with expectations. Everyone looks to the Brightstars to guide them. They are the constellations by which the Guild charts their course and are expected to be great. He will take this name seriously, even when it seems he does not.
Percy.
It’s an easy name. It’s a breezy name. By nature, it’s a musical name. It sounds springy – bouncy and verdant alike – which suits both his quick steps and his emerald eyes. It’s what everyone’s called him since they had to call him something. It implies money – all the purses he’s nicked weighing him down so he doesn’t quite float away. It also sounds old money – most people will assume it’s short for Percival because no one just names their child “Percy”, not even an elf. It lets him blend in wherever he goes and even after his brother and other playmates have shed their childhood names, his is the one he gives most often. Names have power and “Percy” has the power to open doors.
Perseus.
This is a name of heroes who slay great monsters and rescue damsels in distress in hopes that their mother will be proud. He wears this name while he still cares for approval and accolades and while he still thinks he is the hero of the story. It doesn’t last long – a summer, maybe two. He begins to wonder who decides who is a hero and who is a villain and that scares him enough to make this name private, a quiet thing that he rolls around in his mind like a smooth marble, too precious to be played with. He is not a hero and if he is, the quick will decide once he’s dead.
Persis.
It’s the name of a conqueror in the old books and that conqueror’s empire. It’s the name of an old god who could turn into a hawk and who rode in a dragon-pulled chariot. It is a name meant for terror. It’s also one letter short of another word: Persist. It’s what he does. He doesn’t back down, doesn’t give up, knows “retreat” but never “quit.” People will follow him if he is Persis. People do. He is determined that they will all persist and the name works for a while. A long while. It’s strong and even after he’s gone too far past it, he thinks of it as his.
Persiflage.
If flamboyance had a name, this is it. It means to be devastatingly witty and, this is his name when he wants to dizzy with his intellect. Persiflage oozes charisma and cleverness and doesn’t need to worry about silly things like money or where his next meal is coming from. It’s all taken care of by virtue of that mind and tongue and those fingers of his. He knows how to talk his way into and out of everything; he knows how to dazzle even you with a word or ten. Persiflage goes to parties and throws them too, but he never keeps anyone around long enough to be seen in proper light. It rhymes with “camouflage” for a reason.
The Scarlet Scourge.
Terror of the Sword Coast, he sounds more like a Plague than a person. He leads his people and robs those travelers who can afford to lose something or maybe gain some humility. He revels in being frightening but he always hopes he can be something more.
Sir Percy Brightstar
He earned this name. He didn’t give it to himself, the world gave it to him when he did enough deeds worthy of note, rubbed enough elbows with the rich and famous, and when he found the home for his people that even Persis could not. It feels hollow somehow, like he has lost more than he gained. The night sky no longer spans over head and he is the brightest star every single night because the light pollution dims the real ones. He feels like a fake, a fraud, and h so often says, “Please, call my Percy” because if he has to hear one more sycophant call him “Sir Brightstar” he’ll forget who he is. He asks the gods if it was worth losing himself to become this thing and then he sees his little daughter and he knows he had no choice and wouldn’t have made a different one, anyway.
Percival.
People always try this one. They are always wrong.
Dad.
This is his truest name and only one little girl can call him that. It’s a name that transcends space and culture and makes him feel loved even when he doesn’t deserve to feel lovable. Tonight, he wonders if he deserves it. He will work all of his life to make sure Daphne never finds another name for him.
The Duke of Daggerford.
This one. The lie. He falls in and out of identities so easily that it doesn’t bother him to be called one more thing he is not. He smiles and smiles and wonders if the next two hundred years will give him so many names or if he will know what to call himself.
Brightstar.
He is the only star in Barovia tonight. Fog and mist obscure the sky too much otherwise. He must chart his own course and guide his people. He must blend in and be heroic and lead and charm and hide and lie and hope to the gods that Daphne will forgive him for whatever he becomes in this place.

Hi! Can I submit a headcanons request for Percy Jackson on what he and the reader would have a enemy-to-lovers relationship ? Please ?
Enemies to Lovers, Percy Jackson
Headcanons, Genderneutral pronouns
Tw: none, besides a bruise. Grudges?
Tumblr media
- To start off, he would probably hold a grudge against you for some stupid reason. Maybe you always beat him in combat or you always seemed to be the center of attention. Whatever it is, he doesn’t like you.
- And because he isn’t too difficult about making it known when he doesn’t like people, you don’t like him either. Why should you try to gain the approval of someone who doesn’t want anything to deal with you anyway.
- This grudge continues for years. And I mean literal years.
- That’s when a quest comes up. It wasn’t some major one, but it involved retrieving a stolen relic from a god. You hadn’t run into much of trouble, but you and Percy were forced to spend time together.
- and it was hell.
- Like, he doesn’t even talk to you for the first two days. Not even to converse about strategy. You two end up in a fight with a cyclops and things go sideways.
- Percy attacked head on and got a nasty bruise on his arm. Nothing too serious, but it bothered him more then he tried to let on.
- So, even though you did not enjoy his company, you dropped some painkillers for him and went back to your usual business.
- He found the painkillers and decided to talk with you for a minute. Even if it was just to say thank you. You end up discussing your plan of attack and how to retrieve the object. Nothing else was mentioned. Just strictly professional. But it was more talk than the two of you ever had.
- When the quest was finished, you decided to check up on Percy, just to see if there was anything he might’ve wanted to drop and to check if his bruise had begun fading.
- That’s when you finally got the conversation of “why do you hate me?”.
- He explained to you how you always outdid him in training and that you tried so hard to brag about it. In truth, you had been bragging, but only because Percy always ignored you and went along with his “best Demi-god of this century” image.
- The days after it became easier for the two of you. You talked more, helped each other in practice (which left others shocked) and even sat together during lunch, dinner etc.
- So it wasn’t really a surprise to anyone when the two of you grew closer and developed more personal feelings for one another.
- Jason specifically had seen you two pine over each other for weeks without doing anything. Eventually, he got Piper involved, who managed to set you up on a fake trip.
- She had claimed she and Jason would go for target practice and that you and Percy should come along (of course, Piper and Jason “dropped out” last minute)
- And what started in an awkward and nearly disappointing night, ended in yet another demigod couple.
- Piper was very happy upon realizing her plan had worked. (She told everyone before you even had the chance to)

Scotsman X Diesel 10 headcanons
Tumblr media
(yeah, it’s probably an odd pair and y’all are probably furrowing your eyebrows in confusion, but idrc and thought they kinda complimented each other, enough talking for now, let’s hop into the headcanons!~) Before Meeting
*Before meeting, Diesel 10 had already known/heard a lot about Flying Scotsman and his greatest achievements, at first he saw him like any other steam engine and despised him just as much, but over time he gained a sort of admiration for him that he hadn’t shared with any other engine, that admiration would soon turn into a full blown crush, though ofc he wouldn’t admit it outright to anyone, but the couple of posters and newspaper clippings in his shed would tell you otherwise... *Before meeting, Scotsman had heard a few tales about Diesel 10 during his visits to Sodor, though he never fully believed them because he knew how... ‘close minded’ some of the Sodor engines could be, plus he was an open minded individual to begin with due to traveling all across the world and meeting all sorts of individuals, so unless he saw it for himself he wouldn’t fully believe the stories/rumors, he never gets a chance to find out if they are true or not until much later on, due to Diesel 10 usually locking himself away in his shed when not working... When they meet *How they met was simple, Diesel 10 had been driving around to blow off some ‘steam’ after a particularly rough meeting with the Fat Controller discussing about his shed door being broken, which was ‘put aside to be fixed later’ almost a year ago and still hadn’t been dealt with by then, that’s when he pulled up into the station where Scotsman was supposed to be meeting his brother Gordon for lunch, unfortunately Gordon was not available as he was in for repairs and wouldn’t be seeing anyone until tomorrow, Scotsman was about to head off to do something else after hearing this, but before he could get far he finally took notice of Diesel 10 on the track next to him, who was snooping on the convo he had been having with the station master... *Diesel 10 was instantly panicked as he had been spotted and feared that he had already made a bad first impression if Scotsman hadn’t already known about him before now and was prepared for him to start yelling at him, but Scotsman only seemed slightly taken aback by this, he wasn’t a stranger to having people sneak up on him and ask to take photos or to sign things- don’t ask how- so he simply laughed it off and made a few jokes about it, his eyes landing on the warship’s paintwork and gnarly claw on top of his roof, instantly recognizing these things he asks for his name and is delighted- much to Diesel 10′s surprise- to find out it was him!... *Scotsman begins talking about how he had been hearing his name around the island and had wanted to meet him, but ofc never could until now, further making Diesel 10 surprised and he even felt some blush forming on his cheeks, after all, he never thought such a fine, pristine and famous steam engine would want anything to do with a smelly, slightly broken down and scary looking diesel engine like himself, guess he was proven wrong!... *They get to talking, both deciding to head off and hang out for the rest of the day, since Diesel 10 wasn’t needed at the time and Scotsman wouldn’t have anything to do until tomorrow, despite causing a small stir amongst those who passed them by, it was going smoothly and at this point Scotsman could confirm he also had some feelings for his clawed companion, something he had questioned after knowing of the diesel’s existence for awhile, but was only comfortable admitting to it after seeing him in person to make sure the feelings were real... *overall it was a successful hangout and they got along a lot better then anyone would’ve guessed, even after Diesel 10 shamefully confessed that some of the rumors/stories were true, this didn’t change Scotsman’s feelings about him, if anything his honestly about it made his feelings grow stronger and gave him enough incentive to heavily hint at his feelings for the warship, confessing that he ‘always had a soft spot for the rougher and meaner looking engines like him’ and asked for another ‘hangout/date’ together, Diesel 10- very flusteredly- said yes to this and from that point forwards they became an item...
How they are now
*Despite getting flack from the others and being apart for long periods of time, they are quite happy with each other, while the steam engines are not all completely approving of the relationship- with the exceptions of Gordon, Percy, Thomas (kinda) and Edward- the diesels however all were very accepting and Scotsman was almost instantly welcomed by them after Diesel 10 introduced him!... *their dates together usually consist of driving around Sodor talking about what sort of shenanigans they’ve been up to while they were separated, or they get together to have lunch, sometimes Scotsman will bring back gifts and momentos from his travels for Diesel10 and sometimes the rest of the diesels at the Dieselworks. *Diesel 10 does his best to return his kindness, although he isn’t able to get gifts quite like Scotsman’s, he can at least make a mean apple pie, yes you heard that right, he knows how to bake, while sometimes he needs human assistance he can manage the kitchen on his own, Scotsman is always pleased to receive such baked goods from him and insists he makes something that he can take home to show off and enjoy when they’re apart. *Diesel 10 has offered countless times to show Scotsman how to bake/cook good food, because well... Scotsman has an interesting pallet, it’s so outrageous and appalling that it makes the most questionably appetited engines- which is most of them- gag and turn away in disgust, but Scotsman doesn’t mind/care, tho he has been banned from every kitchen within 80 miles of his location because of his crimes against food. *Scotsman is the only engine to ever make Diesel 10 get all soft and mushy and openly show of his dorkier side, despite Diesel 10 being mildly embarrassed if others are around to see it/make fun of him for it, he actually doesn’t mind the attention from Scotsman and won’t really try to stop him from doing whatever it is he was doing to make him feel this way. *they have flirting/compliment wars to see who will get all flustered first... Scotsman- being the natural flirt he is- usually wins, which is part of what makes his dear Diesel 10 a mushy mess. *if you were to catch them at the right time you might hear them singing together, as Scotsman naturally has a good singing voice and Diesel 10 is not half bad either, but he still needs a little practice, thus whenever they meet they’ll practice together. *Scotsman also helps Diesel 10 with confidence, because surprise, surprise! he has some lack in self confidence because of everything that happened in the past and the fact most people/engines outside of the Dieselworks give him dirty looks, hence why he usually hides away, but they’re working on it. *Diesel 10 now refers to Gordon as his ‘favorite brother-in-law’ and likes to antagonize him about it any chance he gets, often times coming to wherever he’s working/following him while doing express runs to do exactly that, Gordon ofc isn’t a big fan of this, but he allows it since Diesel 10 has mellowed out after meeting his brother and Scotsman seems quite happy with him, so he treats it as a minor annoyance more then anything, just like how he treats Scotsman’s ‘Little brother’ comments. *Scotsman often sleeps over at the Dieselworks whenever he’s visiting for a few days, whether it’s just for the sake of visiting or if it’s for some sort of competition on the island he is competing in. *speaking of competitions... while not always able to, Diesel 10 and some of the other diesels try to make it to see Scotsman compete, after all he’s one of them now and they do whatever they can to support him and will even hold a mini celebration with him after all is said and done, regardless if Scotsman won or not, it’s more-so an excuse for him and Diesel 10 to snuggle up next to each other and enjoy each other’s company.
