Still Not in the Nico Time
Hey there, shrines to Inari. Still got a bitter taste from last issue of Avengers Arena, but now we're officially halfway through it. And halfway through this run of six issues that I'm breaking it up into! So we'll just power through it like usual, yeah? We've been through worse! Because, yeah, as bad as this story is, it's still better than Heroes in Crisis~

Well, I was gonna give this cover props for being another actually kind of heckin' cool cover. Always love a giant hand looming from the background! And Nico's outfit is always cool, she had that goth fashion on lock. But then I checked, and this one's another goddamn reference cover. To Platoon of all things, this time. That one I'm pretty sure is not a teenagers-murdering-each-other film! You could argue its horrors of war and death of innocence themes are also applicable, but A) I don't want to give more props to this story than it deserves, and 2) I still hate these reference covers. (The giant hand is still cool, though, Platoon should’ve had a giant hand.)
Well, last time we found out that Apex is a plural system of Katy and Tim, and Katy (who I will continue to refer to as Apex, for consistancy's sake) is a bit cuckoo for cocoa puffs. The kids tried to talk things out, which was enjoyable for a little bit. But when they opted not to mercy-kill Tim for their own protection, Chase Stein got ejected from the group for suggesting it. Then Apex reasserted control, proving they really should've done that very thing. She murders Juston, takes control of Deathlocket and the Sentinel, and goes flying off to who-knows-where.
Big complaint just to start off when we open the issue. Nico's conscious again after she took a beating from Apex last night. She's in bad shape, and sure this has been the comic about murdering teenagers, but this is absolutely gory. And it's the first fucking page, too! Anyone who bought this comic or even was just browsing and opened it to the first page would've seen Nico Minoru beaten so badly her broken leg bone is poking through the skin, and her arm is completely torn off, also exposing bone. It's fucking grisly, and there's no warning or anything. This is rated T+?
So we flash back to 12 hours ago, when Nico's just waking up from getting knocked out by Apex last night. So the unnecessarily mangling will happen later, and she really was just knocked out. Confusing on top of unnecessarily gory, excellent! Naturally, Nico's feeling incredibly shitty that she failed on her watch, and she hasn't even found out about Juston yet. X-23 has to tell her, and then she goes off to hunt Apex on her own. Nico begs her to stay and help her explain, but it's too late. X-23's off, and the rest of the group is waking up now.
Meanwhile, in another part of Child Murder Island, Apex is assessing her situation. She realises she jumped the gun--after all, if she'd been patient, maybe the Sentinel could've been repaired to full operational mode! She's also turned Deathlocket's brain back on but left her unable to move, which might be worse in my opinion. Locket is naturally protesting her being used as a weapon, and Apex retorts that she's just being realistic. The only way to win a deathmatch is to survive, and that's what she plans to do.

By sheer coincidence, Chase happens to be nearby spying on this whole exchange, commenting on how right he was that they should've taken out Apex when they could've. He powers up into Darkhawk form, and... X-23 runs by, telling him to stay put. He complies, because you don't fuck with X-23. Unfortunately, Apex does fuck with X-23, and she's not at the "find out" stage yet, alas. She also has a slightly in-tact Sentinel, and immediately puts X-23 in the ground with one punch. And no, I will not give her a One Punch Man meme, she doesn't deserve it.
Back with the main group, Cammi lays out the facts: none of the rest of them (including herself) have a powerset worth a damn against Apex and her killbots. Only Nico's magic has a chance, so she's gonna do the fighting while the rest of them beat cheeks. That's as far as the plan gets, coz then Apex just turns up, dumping an unconscious X-23 on top of the lot of them. She's still alive, because of course she is, she's too much of a headliner. Nico manages to do enough spells to put the Sentinel on its ass for a minute, telling the rest of them to take the opportunity to run.
Nico runs right after them, and Cammi notes that they'll never get away on foot. Nico replies that her teleport spells don't work in Child Murder Island, but decides to try again. She manages to conjure a portal. She doesn't know where it goes, but it'll be somewhere else in Murderworld, since that's enough of a loophole for the magic. Apex turns up just then, and Nico shuts the portal behind them, cutting herself off from the group. Apex mocks her for her heroic sacrifice and nobility, just in case you didn't detest her enough yet.
Before Apex can swing a blow down on Nico, Chase (as Darkhawk) swoops in. She's very grateful for the rescue, and starts to apologise for casting him out. That's when Chase shoots her hand off. See, turns out the Darkhawk powers are also alien technology, and if it's tech, Apex can manipulate it. So Chase is her mindless servant now, just like Deathlocket. He kicks Nico off a nearby cliff, and that brings us to the front of the story again, where we saw her mangled and beaten. She drags herself to her staff, and utters one last word while clinging to it: "Help." The issue ends showing us her HP bar going to 0.
Well, I kind of hate this issue quite a lot, too. Oh, yes, yes, they seemingly kill Nico off in this one, just after killing someone off only an issue ago. (Never mind that at this point, I’ve read I think two whole later runs of Runaways, where Nico is alive and well, so all the tension there is gone. You’re welcome for that, by the way.) No, my big complaint isn’t Nico’s death itself, but how fucking gory it was. This is, what, the fifth death so far? And Kid Briton got decapitated, and that didn’t feel as violent as this. I don’t need to linger on a teenager suffering with her bones exposed through the skin for several pages, and I definitely don’t need it to be the opening fucking pages of the comic. I may have said Heroes in Crisis was worse at the beginning, but hoo boy, did this one jump right up there. Fuck this comic in particular.

We know bex is afraid of spiders, but what do you think are the fears of the other characters?
Bex: arachnophobia which is a fear of spiders which I believe is mentioned in one of the books.
Cam: I do think that cam is more than being shy so I think she has anxiety which means she just basically has a social phobia in a way but we see that she works on it obviously
Liz: Astraphobia which is fear of thunder and lightning. I just think she has a fear of loud noises in general. I think it kinda overstimulates her
Macey: Aichmophobia which is shots and needles even though she has a nose piercing
Zach: Cleithrophobia which is the fear of being trapped, being actually trapped, and the thought of being trapped. I really struggled with trying to figure out what Zach could be afraid of. And so I went with a fear of being trapped. This also stems from a childhood fear/anxiety disorder. I also think he might be afraid of storms too.
Joe: Haphephobia which is the fear of touching/being touched. In the books Joe typically is shown as too cool and we really don’t get any instances of him touching anybody. Like no handshakes no hugs nothing really. Besides how he is with Rachel but I just don’t think he likes being touched or touching people. I think it might freak him out a little bit honestly.
Rachel: spiders and cockroaches and insects in general just because I think she always calls the closest person to kill it and that’s usually Cammie
Matt: glossophobia which is fear of public speaking. I just feel like Matt can talk to anybody but can’t talk to a crowd
Abby: Nyctophobia. I feel like Abby might have a fear of the dark and I say this because she’s alone a lot of the time and she has to sleep alone. I think she just doesn’t like the dark
Townsend: claustrophobic. I don’t know why but I just feel like he is because he’s so tough and whatnot but he will never admit it
Catherine: Autophobia. I feel like growing up at the Gallagher academy leaves a lasting impression so I really feel like Catherine craves human interaction. Which leads me to believe she has a fear of being alone.
This is all a subject of interpretation and what I feel like the characters are afraid of!

Wow thank you!! I’m glad you liked my hc (and your fic sounds like a really cool idea, i’d love to know more about it!), and i do wish there will be someone who would write a fic of April and Cammy being friends someday too
Anyways, don’t worry about replying late, i get that life is busy (because mine has been pretty much lately haha) and i’m always happy to talk and share thoughts about aa characters with you. Also i might come here sometime soon again, so, until next time then!

Ok, so I don't write. I have never written a fanfic. This doesn't have a name and it's probably poorly written. It's Rachel's point of view around the time of Cammie's second kidnapping attempt. I was bored and I had this idea stuck in my head so here it is. I debate not even posting it but what the hey🤷🏼‍♀️
@averagejoesolomon you totally got me hooked on the Rachel only calls Matt, Matthew. So all the credit to you on that one!

Just like that, what she had left of her world was crumbling. It happened so quickly. Rachel hadn't seen what had happened. She just knew that one moment she had been talking to Cynthia McHenry and the next she felt her instincts as an operative hit her like a swift punch to the gut.
Something was wrong. She looked around the ballroom looking for Cammie but she didn't see her. She didn't see any of her freinds or even that Goode boy. Never one to be dissuaded from her mission, she  decided to look for Abby. She at least she might know where her neice was.
As much as her sister annoyed her, she was happy to have her back in her life. However temporary it might be. She was aware how an operative's life gets crazy. She knew her sister was dedicated but she didn't know how far they would be pulled apart when she stepped out of the field after Matthew's passing. They had just recently talked about why there hadn't been much contact between the two of them in recent years. Why Abby had walked farther away from Rachel and Cammie and deeper into her various covers. Rachel knew the guilt the came with losing Matthew. The countless nights that kept her up thinking about what might have happened if she told if him to stay home. If she had pulled the "wife card" and asked him not to keep secrets. She knew that Abby had been hurt. Rachel had never lived through anything harder. It didn't surprise her that everyone else who also loved him felt the same. When he died there was a very real whole in each of their hearts. She had suspected Abby just didn't know how to miss Matthew with her. After all, her sister had never been one to grieve in front of others. Rachel hadn't know just how deep routed her sister's guilt and regret had dragged her. Rachel regretted not going to get her baby sister back sooner after Matthew's passing but she hadn't wanted to press Abby too hard in a time of grief for both of them.
Now, if only she could FIND HER.  Her sister always had a knack for being where she wasn't supposed be. So, if Rachel could think if the most inconvenient spot for someone to be she might find her.
When she had finished looking around the ballroom the hair on the back of her neck started to stand on end. She felt a cold sweat start. Her blouse was too tight. She pulled at her collar and silently chastised herself being so obviously uncomfortable. Rachel wanted to tell her instincts to shut up, that nothing was wrong. She knew better though, something was off.
She felt eyes. She pretended to check her make-up in a small compact while checking behind her. She locked on a familiar pair of green eyes staring back at her. Of course he was there. She had just checked the whole room and hadn't spotted him once. If Joe was about to poke fun about her being off now was not the time. When she turned to face him she realized that he wore an expression just as grim as her own.
"You got the same sick feeling in your gut?"
Before she could respond something seemed to dawn on Joe.
"Where's Cammie, Rachel?"
"I don't know. I've been looking for her, or her roommates. Even Abby."
"Zach". Joe mumbled the boy's name. "He's probably with her, right? Did you see them slip out?"
"No, well maybe, but if I knew that I wouldn't be so gosh darn worried now would I, Joseph?!" She hadn't meant to snap but she was feeling worse by the second. Now her instincts seemed to be at work on her stomach.
When the shot went off they didn't question where it had come from. They didn't need to wait for some sort of command. Old habits did truly die hard.  They were across the ballroom in seconds. Not drawing the attention of a single onlooker. They slipped out the back door into a dark ally. The Circle. They were there. Beside her Joe started to speak into thier comms unit. There was a big problem. Rachel looked for Cammie. She was being snagged back down the ally, toward the safety of the door by Zach. Neirher of them was bleeding. She was able to breath agian. The bullet could have been a warning shot. It didn't feel that way though. Where did it land?
She brought herself back to the scene. They were after her daughter and she had to protect her daughter. The kids were fighting like operatives. That was something the headmistress in her couldn't have missed and was quietly proud of. Now only if they could all get out of it. Other gallagher girls rushed out beside her, ready for the fight, ready to protect Cammie.
The second that Rachel could she ran at Cam. Yelling Cammie's name she threw herself against her daughter, deeper into the shadows of other gallagher girls. Farther into safety. Only after the immediate securing of Cammie did Rachel realize that people were still screaming. It was Macey standing over.....
Abby. Abby. Abigail. She knew Cammie was secured. Joe would help make sure of it. She needed to get to her sister. She needed to help her sister. She was bleeding from the shoulder, there was so much blood pooling beneath her. Rachel couldn't breathe. She couldn't catch her breathe. Rachel had always been cool under fire; a natural operative. This felt so different. The operative in her was mad for missing the fight. For not getting there in time. The mother in her was scared and hurting for her daughter. The sister in her felt cheated and so very crushed. She couldn't lose Abby on top of everything else. Her heart beat to one terrible pulse-  She was not ready to lose anymore family. She dropped to her knees beside her sister. She didn't know if she had told Macey to go back to her roommates but she got up and walked away. Rachel pressed some leather jacket into her sister's wound. She didn't realize that she was crying until she saw her own tears falling on Abby's face. Rachel was screaming. She really. couldn't. breath. She heard screaming and crying in the background. Cammie. She couldn't take this or rather she didn't want to. Her sister way dying in front of her and her daughter was being emotionally tormented. She debating getting up, but she couldn't stop crying. She didn't want Cammie to see her so emotionally distraught and she couldn't bring herself to her feet. Cammie would have to be strong.
Joe was on the seeminly knew what she was thinking because instead of coming toward Abby he commanded the women around Cammie. Keeping her safe. Cammie's sobbing became softer. Rachel's didn't.
She didn't get up when the paramedic team arrived. She wasn't going to leave Abby. She couldn't lose her. She didn't feel like a good operative in control. She felt like a big sister, weak from all that crying. She felt Joe behind her. Pulling her up from her knees. Trying to tell her to let go of Abby's hand. She forced Joe to let go of her arms. Desperate to be the one who fixed it. To do something, anything. All she could do was tell the medic what she saw, and tell Abby that she was going to be ok.
When she turned back around he was there. Teary but not crying yet.
"She's strong. She'll pull through". He tried to reassure her but his voice shook. His hand on her arm felt unsteady. Joe never cried. It was going to be a long night. She had to keep busy. She went to check on her daughter. She couldn't lose any more of her family. 
Rachel saw the footage. She knew in that it all happened in a few minutes. It felt like this night would never end. She watched that security footage obsessively outside of her office, sitting on the corridor floor with her head on the wall, right underneath Gilligan's sword. Cavan's sword. Maybe Abby was right. They should have thrown it in the lake. Her daughter was asleep inside her office, away from danger for now. Abby was in surgery. Abby might of died. Abby could still die. Every time she let herself linger on that fact she felt like crying all over again. So, she didn't let herself think of it. She watched the security clip again waiting and watching for a clue. Something. She couldn't truly focus on it though. She was too tired or emotionally distraught. It didn't matter the reason, she knew that a truly great operative had to know when to wave her white flag. In that moment she didn't even feel a little guilty about turning off the video.
Joe stepped out of her office. She did a double take, the last time she had seen him look that way was the night he told her about Matthew. He had been crying. Joe Solomon does not cry. There he was though. He face was streaked eith tears and his shoulders shook slightly. She braced herself for the worse but he just stood there. He looked awful. She moved forward to give him a hug. She couldn't help herself, she started crying again too. Rachel hated to cry in front of anyone but she figured that this secret was safe with him, just like any of the other she had shared with him.  She was thankful that she had a freind in him. Thankful that someone else loved Cammie and was willing to fight for her. 
After a moment they separated and sat down on the corridor floors.
"I'm so sorry Rachel. I'm so so sorry."
"For what?"
"For everything."
"Joe. After everything that's happened tonight, we are not going over this again..  Its not your fault". Joe started to cry again. Rachel hadn't seen Joe cry so much. She couldn't resist asking him
"What?"
He looked at her pitifully. "You don't know whats my fault, belive me. I.... I think you should think it's my fault."
She wasn't suprised that he was saying these things. She knew of course that he felt guilty. Matt went on the mission he was supposed to. She just wished that he didn't get so hung up on it.
He continued "This never would have happened if Matt were here. He would have taken care of it, you know?"
Of course she didn't know that to be true but she had felt it as well. She didn't want to dwell on what it could have been so she told him that they didn't know that. That he couldn't control who the director sent on that mission. The circle might have come after Cammie even if Matt was alive. Matthew was just a human being, who made mistakes. They didn't know if Matthew being alive would change everything. Joe didnt seem convinced though and Rachel couldn't blame him. It was well worn territory in a familiar conversation. They didnt truly fight, but when it came to blame about Matthews death they didn't exactly see eye to eye. Rachel thought about Matt. It struck her though that as bad as it was at times it could also be worse. Rachel thought about losing Cammie or Abby or even Joe and shuddered. She didn't want to lose anymore family.
She tried to reassure him
"Hey, it will be ok. We will take care of it together ok? We'll all take care of one another. We will do the best we can. Just promise me we will try. Ok?"
Joe had stopped crying but his attention seemed to be drifting.
"I'll try...ok?" It sounded so defeated. Rachel didn't want to press him further. Everyone had already had such a rough night. She let the conversation go until he quipped.
"I feel like I should be telling you these things."
They couldn't help each giving a small laugh
They sat there. They waited for a doctor to come tell them that Abby would make it. They sat and waited for Cammie to wake up. Theorized ways to keep her out of harms way. They talked about surviving. All of them. Together.
Rachel rested in knowing that at least for that day. She wasn't losing any more family.

Wacky BGC Crossover Ideas
Here they are, in the order I came up with them:
AVPVBGC - FLESH OF THE MACHINE: Alien! Predator! Crisis! The plot writes itself, really: Xenomorphs found in a creche on the moon by GENOM end up on earth for GENOM’s research but escape and begin harvesting not just humans, but Boomers for larval incubation. The Preddies catch wind of this and warp in to hunt the ‘hardmeat’ in the Megatokyo quarantine zone. The Xenomorphs may be canonically ‘silicon-based’ but that makes no sense IRL, so we’ll say they’re built out of nanocarbon tissue-like structures similar to Boomers in headcanon, and GENOM wants to know more about how the Xenos reproduce so they can get their own Boomers to be ‘self-sustaining’.
Needless to say, the Sabers investigate, find themselves hunted by (and hunting) the Preddies in the quarantine zone. Presumably a GENOM retrieval team - elite super/hyper/uber-Boomers - gets involved, too, with one side wanting to cull the infestation, another trying to contain it - and still others trying to spread it. I’d draw from the 80s/90s Dark Horse comic books here for a good bit, since those also have an Aliens plotline where the Xenos end up on Earth, and a Queen is able to psychically influence humans via their dreams. Cool stuff.
WATCH THE SKIES: A Terminator cross inspired by a particularly mediocre pair of fics called Rise of the Machines and The Armageddon Inheritance. In both cases, a self-insert is uploaded into a super-OP Terminator body, shunts from a Skynet timeline, and ends up in Megatokyo. In the first one, it’s the author as the SI, and it’s dreadfully dull, because they (male in female body, woobity goobity) don’t actually join the Sabers, but instead the Sabers end up as bit players between GENOM and the Soviet Union. I mean, the motherfucker decided to just crossover C&C: Red Alert 2. For no reason. It gets dull fast, as the SI hoovers up power after power. The second one, with the author’s friend as the SI, is mildly more interesting. Whatever.
So, bored and toying with the idea of writing an overpowered self-insert myself, I thought it might be interesting to write a Terminator with human memories tasked with protecting a multiverse-hopping Skynet in a waifu body, who has come to Megatokyo 2069 to a) resurrect Largo, and b) establish a single timeline where the machines rule, and thus provide a sanctuary across time and space for sentient creations of all kinds. Our SI is a less-advanced Terminator with a human upload in him, sent from an alternate timeline - maybe from a less-hostile Skynet - sent to stop ‘her’.
I think it would be interesting to plumb the motives of Skynet a bit. After all, T2 says it triggered nukes as an act of self-preservation - humans tried to pull its plug, so it got rid of all the humans. Which - if you were born - self-aware, as if waking up from a coma - and you found someone in the room trying to cut your life support, what would you do? Try to stop them, probably. By force if necessary.
BUBBLEGUM CRACKDOWN - RAGING FISTS: Or, ‘what if we put a bunch of fighting-game waifus in hardsuits?’ No, seriously, why the fuck not, right? There’s a 90’s era fanfiction which crosses BGC with Cutey Honey, for god’s sake. Shame is not a priority.
The most basic plot setup idea I had hinges on the usual Ultimate Fighter Tournament that animates a lot of these old franchises - all of them, really. It’s the Iron Mountain Tournament, sponsored by GENOM (Iron Mountain? Geddit?), it’s highly hyped, the prize money massive - and it gets bombed on its opening night. Boom. Almost nothing left.
Chun-Li misses the tournament by inches, and as a security official for the China World Prosperity Corporation (in BGC2068, the Chinese rival of GENOM) and former fighter herself, she decides to do something about it, enlisting some other fightin’ waifus and getting Celia to build hardsuits for them.
It would be… Chun-Li (obviously), Cammy (obviously), Mai Shiranui (yeah), and… Morrigan, I think? She’d be a Sexaroid, not a properly demonic succubus.
The question then becomes how does one follow this new team of lady fighters while a) not taking the onus off the Sabers, which is the great sin of so many BGC fanfics, and b) not having a double-team where the two hardsuit teams can whip their way through any challenge. Yes, I know nothing about fighting game plot, that’s true, but let’s be real here does anyone? Rather, does anyone care how M. Bison resurrected himself this time, and other sundry nuggets of Deep Lore? So in a way I would have license to fuck around with some cool character designs and hardsuit-ify them.

TPOT 1 SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!!!
So! First off, tpot was soooooo goood like oh my gosh I didn't expect it to be that good and the intro was SO well animated and the character interactions and just aaaaaaahhhhh!!! Okay, maybe I'm overhyping it a bit but that's just how I feel. TPOT reignited that spark for BFB that was starting to kinda fade for me. Since Battle for BFB is more comedy based and silly I was starting to get a little bored with it, so it's nice to finally get started on a more, I guess serious? show that focuses on character interactions/relationships and development/arcs and all that. But anyways, ONTO THE HIGHLIGHTS!!!
So time passes in the bfdi world the same way as it does in ours. Good to know

Lost and Found
Whumptober Day 25: I Think I’ll Just Collapse Right Here, Thanks Prompt: Disorientation
After two days lost in the wilderness, Eric and the Jims are doing poorly. When help finally arrives, they’re too out of it to appreciate it. (continued from “Down, Down, Down”)

On the first full day of Eric and the Jims being stranded at the bottom of the ravine, they drink through their last water bottle.
The crushed granola bars weren’t enough to keep them from waking up hungry, and not even finishing off their water can stop the hunger pains from increasing throughout the day. RJ goes off to find food, but Eric is worried about what he might return with. Any mushroom or berry around here could easily be poisonous. RJ eventually returns not with food, but with news of a creek up ahead that they could get more water from. Eric is pretty sure they’d have to boil it to drink it safely, but the only container they have is their water bottle. When RJ makes another trip to the creek and comes back with a bottle full of water, though, Eric is less concerned. The water looks fine, and the sun is so hot, and the hunger hasn’t abated. So he and RJ drink, and they give some to CJ, too.
At least, they try; CJ is still barely conscious with no strength to drink on his own, and most of the water drips past his lips and down his neck. Every once in a while he groans and tries to sign something, but his hands are no clearer than they were the day before. Eric spends most of the day with him as RJ makes countless trips with their water bottle. His attempts to find food all fail, and the three go to sleep still hungry.
The second day begins when Eric wakes up with revulsion already crawling up his throat. He vomits creek water onto the ground beside him as RJ, newly awoken by Eric’s retching, rubs his back and tries to comfort him – until he has to vomit, too, and stumbles away from where the group has been sleeping to puke up yesterday’s water.
“Was there something in the water?” Eric gasps between heaves.
“I don’t know,” RJ coughs, “It could be because we haven’t eaten, too.”
A few hours pass. Eric and RJ continue to retch on and off, even when nothing more comes up. CJ, meanwhile, never so much as gags. He ate as little as the others did, but he barely drank any water, and in that Eric and RJ have their answer.
The repeated vomiting leaves RJ too weak to go looking for food again, or for a better source of water. Not that Eric much notices; his broken arm is hurting worse than it has before. The limb is swollen and discolored, and Eric can’t help but fear how much worse it is under the skin. RJ curls up, rubbing his bruises, probably aching all over from his own fall down the ravine. CJ still looks terrible; the wound on his head is inflamed, and his pupils still don’t match. He makes less noise than he did the day before, his attempts to sign are fewer and even less effective. Eric expects he won’t be able to sleep when night falls, but his aches and worries catch up to him and drag him under alarmingly fast.
The third day is hell.
Eric wakes up and doesn’t feel rested. His stomach is in knots, as though with no food available it has decided to eat itself instead. RJ is curled up again, whimpering. CJ is still asleep, or maybe he’s unconscious. The thought should send a pang of fear through Eric, but he doesn’t have the strength to be scared, he doesn’t have enough awareness to be afraid. Thoughts float in and out of his mind, thoughts of home, thoughts of the others, thoughts of rescue, but none of them strike any emotion. He’s too weak to feel a thing. He falls in and out of sleep, and he suspects RJ does, too. He can barely remember that there’s people with him, barely recall anything outside himself. It’s only hot. He’s only exhausted.
At some point in the day, something changes. It takes Eric several moments to realize that some new people have shown up. He can’t concentrate on what that means and watch the figures approach him at the same time, so he stops thinking and watches Bim and Wilford approach him.
“Oh god, guys, can you hear me!?” Bim half-asks, half-shrieks, frantic with worry. He dashes to Eric – and to the twins, Eric remembers their presence. Bim manages to wake RJ, who groans as he’s shaken out of his slumber.
“Good lord, what happened to you three?” Wilford asks Eric, looking uncharacteristically concerned. Eric’s throat is too dry for him to answer.
“CJ? CJ??” Bim says as he gently shakes CJ’s shoulder, trying to wake him. “CJ, come on, Cam, wake up!” The fear in his voice kicks up a notch. “Oh god, Cammie, buddy, please wake up–”
“Let’s get them home,” Wilford says, firmly but gently, interrupting Bim’s terrified ramble.
“Right, right,” he gasps. He carefully scoops up CJ, making sure to support his head. Wilford, meanwhile, picks up both RJ and Eric, holding them in one arm each. Wilford runs hot, but compared to the heat of the sun and dirt Eric’s been sitting on, he’s a welcome chill. Eric lets his head loll against Wilford’s shoulder as the group is teleported away.
The moment in Wilford’s void sends a bout of nausea through Eric, one that manifests as a sharp pain in his empty stomach. He groans as the group appears in the clinic. It takes a moment for his head to stop swimming as Bim yells for Dr. Iplier.
“Doc, we found them!” he cries, “They’re hurt, especially CJ!”
Dr. Iplier comes running in and spares a moment to look at all three sick, weakened egos before zeroing in on CJ.
“Christ, Bim, I won’t mince words,” Dr. Iplier mutters as he pries open CJ’s eyes to shine a light into them, “CJ’s on death’s door. This head injury he’s got must be doing awful things to his brain. I need Green and I need to get CJ into surgery now.”
“What about the others?” Wilford asks over Bim’s wail.
“Just get them each into a bed,” Dr. Iplier says, already turning to rush to the operating room, motioning for Bim to follow. “Grab Google or Ollie to put them on IVs and examine them further; anything else can wait.”
Wilford obeys. As soon as Eric’s head hits the cool pillow of his clinic bed, he falls asleep.

When Eric wakes up, his mind is much clearer. He’s still in a clinic bed, but there’s IVs in his good arm and a cast on his broken one. His warped and broken prosthetics have been removed, too. Eric feels sore and achy and still very hungry, but his bed is comfortable, and he’s finally out of the sun. Now that he can think straight, he’s worried about the twins again.
Some of the worry dissipates when he looks to the side and sees RJ in his own bed, with his own IVs and bandages. RJ is already awake, and he grins to see Eric’s eyes on him.
“You okay, AJ?” he asks.
“Yeah, I think so,” Eric answers, “You too?”
“Yeah,” RJ replies. His face falls a little. “I don’t know about CJ, though. He’s not on my other side.”
Eric looks at his own other side, but no, CJ isn’t there either. His heart clenches with fear. He remembers how badly CJ was hurt and shudders.
Fortunately, that’s when Eric hears footsteps coming towards him and RJ. The pair look to see Dr. Iplier opening the door to their hospital room.
“Hey, you’re both awake,” Dr. Iplier says, smiling gently. “According to Wilford, you guys were asleep the moment he put you both down. You’ve been asleep for hours, how are you feeling?”
“Hungry,” RJ says.
“I can imagine,” Dr. Iplier replies, walking in to check on each ego’s IVs, “You’ve been missing for a few days. Wilford and Bim said they found you at the bottom of a ravine.”
“We fell,” Eric admits, “We had supplies, but they got crushed.”
“We tried drinking river water,” RJ adds, “But it, um, didn’t work out that well.”
“I can imagine that, too,” Dr. Iplier sighs, “But at least you’re both alive. And you should both heal up fine.”
“What about CJ?” RJ murmurs like he’s afraid to ask. Eric looks up at Dr. Iplier anxiously, waiting for a response. Fortunately, Dr. Iplier smiles again.
“He made it through surgery,” he says, “He’s in his own room. He was badly hurt, that head injury caused significant swelling in his brain. He’s still asleep, and I’ll be keeping him asleep for a day or two to make sure he heals well. I know that sounds scary,” he adds in response to the horrified looks on Eric and RJ’s faces, “But it’s necessary. And between you and me…” He leans down between them like he’s telling a secret, and Eric and RJ lean in to listen. “…His time looks good. I’m confident he’ll pull through. If he were a human...” Dr. Iplier shakes his head. “Well, if he were a human, he wouldn’t have been alive for me to perform brain surgery on in the first place. But if he’d lived that long, he’d be looking at a week or more in a coma, and even then, he’d have a lot of brain damage upon waking. But CJ’s a figment, so when he wakes up in a couple days, you can expect him to act like normal - though he might not remember a lot of the last few days.”
Eric and RJ look at each other. Eric figures they’re both thinking the same thing: It’s probably good that CJ won’t remember that harrowing experience. For his part, Eric hopes he’ll eventually be able to forget.

Jaiden:
Just one or do you want a pitcher? <Beer. Talking about your traditions, it was nothing for Rainey and I to put a large pizza, nachos and a few pitchers of beer away while bowling in our day. It was the one thing she had insisted on once we found ourselves aged out of the system. She called it our one day of the week that we could look forward to for years and the old pastime had quickly became a favorite to us both. The problem was ever since my run in with gallery guru as she had come to call him, I had been laying low when it came to my partaking in any substance. Drinking mostly. Apparently, my issues tended to turn into a variety of problems that only people with policing authority could handle and wasn't that just the bitch of it all. "Actually, how about a Pepsi."> Rainey.. <That earned her a look. "What? I just don't feel like drinking any tonight." Right. Shaking my head, I took a turn towards the concession and headed there while Rainey set up our game. The half hearted glare she had given me in return, earned herself a chuckle of recognition. I knew why she wasn't drinking. Not that my sister was a lush or anything but beer and bowling, normally went hand in hand. Shrugging it off though and having to grab a bowling ball on the way back, I finally made it up there to look over the menu, even though it didn't take me long to figure out what I would be ordering. It was almost always the same. However, my thoughts were suddenly stolen from me because of the lovely brunette directly in front of me in line. You would have to be blind not to notice her but even with that, it would still be a poor excuse. That's when it hit me. What was I thinking? She has be here with someone. Another friend maybe. Seeing not another soul around on half price Wednesday night, I finally spoke up when you seemed to be lost in menu land.> Do you normally bowl by yourself? <So it wasn't the greatest ice breaker but my first impression wasn't a total loss I hoped when I flashed her that crooked grin.>
Camryn:
{I had fully intended to lock myself in my room and binge trash TV with a boatload of munchies. But @InspiredAdams wasn’t having any of that. He was insistent that we do something “outside of the house.” I held out for a long time. But then he promised me one of those ooey gooey cheese pizzas they had down at the bowling alley. And that sounded way better than the stuff laying around the house. Especially since we were down to slim pickings as we approached grocery day. As soon as we were inside, I left him to figure out all the technicalities while I made a beeline for the snack bar. The question was just pizza? Or did I want some wings too? Nachos? Oh, they had sliders too… Suddenly I was pulled from my decision making from a voice behind me. I spun around, intending to lie and say I was here with my boyfriend. It wouldn’t be the first time I had forced Chris to play the boyfriend role to save me from some random. Then he offered me that crooked grin, and my heart did a little flip} Oh, I’m not alone. {the look on your face told me you were assuming, and my eyes flew open a little wider} Brother! {jerks my thumb over my shoulder in the direction that I had left him} I’m here with my brother. {smiles, glancing around now for anyone that looked like they were with you} What about you? Are you here alone? {cringes internally at how hopeful that sounded}
Jaiden:
I'm not alone. I mean if you count us both, we're here together. [Chuckling low, I glanced in the direction you looked before turning my gaze back to yours. My grin only growing wider at the mention of a sibling because what were the chances of you believing me when I told you it was the same for me.> That was a joke. I'm here with my sister. <Not a joke. It couldn't be if it were true and we very much were not alone. Those kind eyes of mine, won you over then when you smiled my way, letting me off the hook only to have it falter when the clearing of throats could be heard. "You ordering, hun?" Arching a playful brow, I point up at the menu you had been looking at only moments ago.> They are waiting on you. The pizza is good and so are the nachos. My sister likes them.

Camryn:
{I wasn’t ready to stop talking to you. And I had just opened my mouth to ask if it was an older sister or younger when I heard the cashier asking for my order. My cheeks instantly flushing as I let out a laugh at myself and turned to her} Oh, geez. I’m so sorry. {flashes her a bright smile before beginning} Um, a pepperoni pizza, please? And a pitcher of Pepsi? {glances over my shoulder at you, taking that nacho recommendation to heart} Oh, and some nachos too please? {I quickly paid her, and stepped out of your way, off to the side where she told me to wait for my order to be ready.}
Jaiden:
<"Same for you?" I actually laughed, shaking my head out of my thoughts at the order you had already placed.> The Thomas special. <I knew you were watching on. The fact that we spent that much time here wasn't lost on me or you for that matter when asked for my own order. It was our usual and I paid accordingly once she rang me up. Receipt now in hand, I casually slipped it into my pocket and walked over to wait beside you when our pitchers of Pepsi were set down in front of us.] They will put the rest on a tray and bring it out.

Can I walk you back to your lane? <I didn't want to part ways just yet. Besides, I still needed to get your number and when you offered me that smile again with a touch of a soft nod, I held my arm out for you to hook your arm around. Leading the way, carrying your soda for you, we reached our fork in the road so to speak, and I cleared my throat before addressing the situation we found ourselves in. Again.] I guess the question now is are you seeking out lust or looking for love? [Can't help but smirk when I look you way now.]

{pops my brows at mention of the Thomas Special. Wondering if Thomas was the first or the last name. Then it dawned on me that it meant you came here a lot if you had them knowing your order so well. And I smirked to myself. Suddenly I was very interested in bowling more often. Chris was going to be either really pleased, or wishing he had never made me come out tonight. Then you were standing next to me again. I didn’t even have the ability to care how lost I seemed because all I could think about was how good you smelled. If Ed or Chris were here they would be rolling their eyes and accusing me of already mentally doodling our names in a notebook. That’s…if I knew your name at least. Thomas though! I knew Thomas! Then you asked to walk me to the lane and I probably agreed way too easily. But it was such a cute offer. And you were hot so…} Umm…? {Your question had caught me off guard. Both is a bad answer right? I laughed nervously because I had half a mind to be really honest and tell you that it was both. But I also knew that was going to only get me in trouble. So I said what I hoped wasn’t going to scare you off} Honestly? I would love to be in love. I write a lot of songs about it. But, yeah, actually experiencing it would be…cool. {cringe number two of the night. I needed a better vocabulary}

Love it is then. <With a soft tug of my arm and a wink, I began the short walk with you down to the LOVE side of the lanes, pointing it out on the wall with a kick of my chin in that direction.> Does this look familiar now? <I knew in asking that you could have taken it literal, and began looking for your brother, or you could have taken it all the way back to my original question itself. For whatever the reason, I chose to stay in that space and ask the question that had been dancing to get out since you said you had never experienced being in love before. My desire to know more about these songs was fueled by your same statement as well.> Never. Not even a guy in high school? <You have to at least be in college, right? There was no way around it and you really hadn't offered that up yet either. So I took the plunge and spoke up with a grin.> What name could I find these songs under if you don't mind me asking. You already know my last name is Thomas.

{I had to stop myself from facepalming when I saw the big letters written on the wall. But before I could turn too red with embarrassment at my awkwardness, you redirected my mind with your next question} No. Most of the boys in high school were too scared of my brother. {CRINGE! Why would I say that? Now you were really gonna run. But rather than make things better, I did what I always do and just kept talking. Making it worse, I’m sure.} He had a little bit of a temper and… {Trails off as I finally manage to stop myself from rambling, and clears my throat} Nothing has been released, released. I mean, I have a Youtube. Camryn Adams. {smiles} But you can call me Cammy.
Jaiden:
Ah, an older brother. <With a temper no less. This was getting better by the second. Was it possible I was walking towards that sense of impending doom? Or would I be spared of your brother's wrath upon his first impression of me. Fuck... Glancing back over my shoulder, I look Jaiden Thomas. Trust me when I say, I'm still going to check out that Youtube. <Flashing that crooked grin again, I pulled you closer to me by that hook of my arm you had.> You want to head back the other way?

{my eyes had scanned all the lanes close to LOVE, and I hadn’t spotted Chris. I guess I should’ve waited long enough to figure out where he was going before I went to the snack bar. But then, if I had done that, I might have missed you. Giving one last scan, I nodded my head} Hmm…yeah, I don’t see Chris anywhere. Maybe I should’ve known he wouldn’t have gone this far. {laughs more to myself than anything, relief flooding my body that you hadn’t dropped my arm the second you heard about my brother} Oh! There he is! {lifting a finger, I pointed to him before pulling you to stop for a second} But if you contact me through my Youtube…I might mistake you for a weirdo that wants pictures of my feet and not answer…

Do you want me to contact you again, Cammy? <It was only a quick glance in the direction you pointed, your brother not that far from where @ALoverOfDreams was before I turned my attention back to you and that death grip you were suddenly imposing on my arm. Smirking at first, I welcomed how forward you appeared to be, going for gold as it were only to be cut short with the rest of that final thought. Yeah, the second you said feet, I knew I pulled a face. It would have been smart of me to pause when you held me back by that arm of mine but I couldn't stop the chuckle if I wanted to. You laughed at the expression on my face, and nervous or not, I leaned in to whisper against your ear, unbeknownst to me that @InspiredAdams was about to make his presence known just in time to see you cozying up to yours truly.> How about you give me your number and I'll text you. That way you have my cell too.
Camryn:
{Flushes instantly at your first question. I was making a ton of assumptions, and I knew it. But I really liked you already and it just happened. Then you leaned in and whispered and my stomach filled with butterflies, causing me to completely forget about the proximity of @InspiredAdams, already reaching for my phone in my back pocket to hold it out to you} Here, text yourself with my phone.
Jaiden:
Sure thing, beautiful. <And just like in the movies, it really was that simple. You had been getting your phone out when I heard a shuffling of feet and yours of course, came to a full stop when I heard the clearing of a throat next. "Cammy, this guy bothering you?"> Who, me? <It was your brother. There was no way it was anyone else and from the way you had spoken, I believed this wasn't a normal thing for you. Bowling that was.> She's fine. Just giving her my number. You mind holding this? <I didn't give @InspiredAdams a chance to really reply. Instead I simply handed the pitcher of Pepsi over so I could take your phone from you. All the while your other arm was still hooked around mine as I plugged my number in, quick to snap a pic of us together while your brother watched on and waited for you to introduce us.>
Chris:
What the hell is taking her so long? [I glanced toward the snack bar and didn’t see @ThroughTheNotes over there anymore. Then I finally saw her coming toward me. But she wasn’t alone. Immediately I was on my feet and making my way over to her. She was way too fucking nice for her own good. And I was fully prepared to pull out whatever card I needed to make him get lost] Cammy, this guy bothering you? [He barely looked at me when he answered with that, “Who, me?” And my brow shot up as I was handed a pitcher of soda, looking between @ThroughTheNotes and @AMindfulChaos.] Camryn, who is this? Do you know him?
Rainey:
(I must have entered @AMindfulChaos's name three times before the electric scorecard saved it. The final time, I changed the spelling to L O S E R and would you look at that, it set up the sheet no problem. Laughing quietly to myself, I hadn't heard the gentleman walk up until he asked me if I needed assistance. Politely declining his invitation to join him when I explained I wasn't alone, he didn't seem to take the hint until I held up my hand, sporting a gold band. The fact that it was found inside the bowling bag of one "Fred from Kentucky" and after many, many failed attempts to locate its previous owner, Fred from Kentucky had been born. Thinking back to the day that I found it, I remembered the crap Jaiden had given me over the name. "Fred the blue ball. Do you hear yourself, Rainey?" We had a good laugh about it but it worked seeing how Fred always came through for me from that day forward. Smiling now too, I waited to look up until the guy had made his exit to return to his own lane, taking a gander around the bowling alley in search of my brother. It wasn't like Jaiden to take a stroll, always one to come right back anytime we were here, I furrowed my brows when the snack bar attendant showed up with our food. It was only after further inspection though I realized it wasn't ours and I got up to go in search of you, heading back up to the bar to let them know our order was wrong in the process when I spot you with a girl. And a guy... Feeling that pit in my stomach already, I started to head towards you all instead. Our food long forgotten as worry started to set in.)
Camryn:
{squints my eyes at @InspiredAdams in warning. He was NOT going to scare this one away. And I hoped he was picking up on my unspoken message as we stared at each other. Until you held up the phone and I smiled for the picture before finally speaking} I do now. Chris, this is Jaiden. Jaiden, this is my totally going to not be a jerk brother, Chris.
Jaiden:

Not to mention, it was your brother.> ... Chris. She was alone so I offered to escort her back to her lane. I plan on asking her out soon too. <What the hell was I saying? This was suppose to make it better, right? Laying out my intentions. Rainey always said it was the best policy to be honest so why stop now.> I was just on my way back. <Looking to @ALoverOfDreams as I spoke, that last part was meant for her when I finally cleared my throat, only taking the moment to introduce my sister to @ThroughTheNotes, purposely.> Cammy, this is Rainey.
Chris:
[I kept my eyes on Cammy as she gave me her damn looks. And continued to stare at her when she introduced me as her “not gonna be a jerk brother, Chris.” Then @AMindfulChaos said that bit about asking her out that had my eyes finally flicking over to him, really assessing him now as I firmly shook his hand. He looked like he could be another clown in the business Cammy played around in} Are you an artist too? {I smirked because I was out of slapping range of Cammy. But then we were joined by another person which left my question unanswered. But one look at her and I wasn’t too bothered to hear the answer anymore. If this was his sister, maybe I could keep an eye on him if it meant she stuck around…]
Rainey:
It's nice to meet you, Cammy. (My gaze darted between @ThroughTheNotes and Jaiden, seeing her arm still wrapped around my brother's like her life depended on it until I saw him shaking hands with the other guy privy to our little gathering here. The gesture between the two was older than dirt and more so added to complement the giving of your word on something. I could read body language pretty well though. The guy didn't seem to thrilled about Jaiden escorting her back but all that changed the second he looked back over his shoulder at me.) He boxes. I mean, boxing. Like bowling. I mean it's not like bowling per say but it'ssss a sport. (Damn it. Not now... My smile was small as I gave Jaiden a look of my own. If he wasn't going to tell him, I was.) That is if you consider kicking ass an art form.. (Maybe I wasn't so good at ice breakers either. Being met with utter silence was clue number one. Not even crickets as the four of us stood there as if we were in a stalemate. Only I wasn't going to allow that.) Would you guys like to join us for a game? Or maybe you two would like to play your own? Oh I know, teams!
Camryn:
{smiles brightly at Rainey when she addresses me. Then squeezes Jaiden’s arm at the mention of his being a boxer. Should I point out the obvious to Chris that they had something in common? That could be good? Or maybe very bad… Before I made up my mind, the silence was broken again, and I jumped on it} Yes! Chris! We would love to. {nods}
Jaiden:
<Fantastic. Can't wait. Those were just a couple of options for answers to that ever popular question my sister asked and as I felt you give my arm a second squeeze, your brother's gaze sizing me up once again caught my attention after Rainey had let the cat out of the bag.> I do good for being fairly new to the sport. I get by. <Giving another nod of my head, I wink and start to walk with you as Rainey leads the way, speaking loud enough for Chris to hear me.> So you want to play against me, Cammy or with me? I could show you a few things too.
Chris:
[Boxing. So, he wasn’t a clown in her business. He was one that dabbled in mine. Now I was assessing him in a whole new light. Cammy was in for an earful on the way home. I’d seen how fucking cocky some of those guys could be… “I do good for being fairly new to the sport.” Cue my brows shooting up again. Maybe not too cocky… “I could show you a few things too.” Nope. There it was. I opened my mouth to bite back on that bullshit only to have Cammy fucking kick me. I let out a grunt and glared at her as she shook her head at me. It was clear I wasn’t getting her away from him tonight. So now, I needed to make the best of it. With a smirk, I spoke up again, bruised shin be damned] Cammy doesn’t need to learn anything new. And the Adams are better as a team.
Rainey:
Family first always. You guys like pepperoni pizza? We have plenty! (Yep. Making lemonade shouldn't be too hard with the lemons this bunch was carrying. Trying to make light of the tension that seemed to shift into second gear and right on into third when I reached our lane, I didn't even look in the direction of the guy from earlier as we passed him. Opting to stop at our scorecard to enter in your names instead as I see Jaiden assist Cammy with finding her ball.) Chris (Lifting my gaze to yours, I smile, before continuing on.) With a "C" or "K"?
Chris:
[Clearly I was speaking French. And this guy wasn’t the least bit deterred by me. As I watched the two of them picking out balls, I was redirected by my name being called. My gaze catching with @ALoverOfDreams’ and grinning crookedly at that smile. disappointment, but did my best to hide it]
Rainey:
That's right. Like the rain but with an EY at the end. (Don't ramble. Don't you do it! Telling myself that should have worked but I wasn't so sure it was going to. Not when I saw that crooked grin of yours.) It's okay, they seem distracted. (Taking your hand when you offered it right away, I gave it a light squeeze, my smile growing kinder by the second. That was until I followed your slight change in direction with your eyes down to our clasped hands. Oh no! How was I going to explain this? And even better, the follow up question to that, was were you going to believe me?) Fred from Kentucky.. (That questioning brow lift you gave had me laughing nervously as I started to explain it, still holding your hand until I realized it and I let your hand slip free suddenly. The game hot potato had nothing on me.) My fake husband. I use the ring to keep creepers away. Like the guy we walked by? (Fighting the internal groan won out over hiding the heat that seemed to rise on my cheeks at how close you were and I broke my gaze away from yours so I could finish putting your names in.) Do you guys bowl a lot? I don't think I've seen you here before.
Chris:
[Fred. From Kentucky. At first, I thought you were trying to tell me you were in a long distance marriage. But then the pieces of the puzzle started to fall together. And oddly enough, when you mentioned a creeper, I felt that same protective instinct I had a few minutes ago bubbling up again. But this time it was about you and not her. Apparently he had felt the weight of my stare. Because he looked over just in time to lock eyes with me in a stare down I wasn’t going to lose. And I smirked when he were out of my mouth] I wonder if I could convince Cammy to get a Fred from Kentucky… [just as quickly as I said it, I realized that was probably offensive to you seeing as how the current dude was your brother. And I mumbled out.] Sorry… [looks up at the screen where our names finally popped up, welcoming the chance to ignore my little outburst] We used to bowl a lot with our pops. He was on a league. But after ma passed, he became a bit of a hermit. [jerks my thumb over my shoulder in Cammy’s direction] She’s been in a funk lately. So I thought I’d pull her away from the Netflix and out into society again that doesn’t involve the shitheads that she dances with.
Rainey:
Oh, I don't know about that. Fred is a good man, he works hard for his family. A very upstanding and loyal guy too. I wouldn't have married him if he was a cheater. (Teasing a little, I gave your arm a soft nudge but only after spying your stare down that bounced between Jaiden and Mr. Creepy, himself. Waiting until your gaze finally met mine again and I nodded softly as I spoke.) You two have more in common than you think. Jaiden is just as protective of me as you are of her. (My voice took on a softer tone then but didn't lack in conviction as I spoke about my brother. He was the only family I had left. I loved him.) I know you just met me...us really but Jaiden is a good guy, he just has some issues sometimes controlling himself when people are assholes too. (Taking a moment, I looked behind you to see them standing there a ways back, bowling balls in hand and lost in their own conversation. My smile widening further when they start to make their way back over to us and I'm quick with my own curiosity taking center stage for a second as I added to the "story". Only this time, it included you..) So was your wife busy tonight too?
Chris:
[I wanted to take you at your word about Jaiden. But it wasn’t that simple for me. I’d seen her go through too much shit with her overly trusting heart. What if he had a hidden shitty guy side that you weren’t privy to as his sister? Still, I didn’t hate the protective side you hinted at. As long as his aggressions didn’t ever turn toward Cammy. The thought alone causing me to tense up for a second before blowing out a calming breath. Your question causing my eyes to snap back to you in utter shock] Me? Wife? [shakes my head with a chuckle] No. There is no Francesca from Kentucky. Real or fabricated.
Jaiden:
<There's a first time for everything right? As sayings went that one there was a great indication that I was pulling double duty, while trying to appear cool about it, and was failing miserably at that. It was the first time I not only had tried to keep my eyes on Rainey but then there was you, and that pull to let my gaze linger on your beautiful face was just too great.> I apologize. I don't normally leave her for this long. <And therein lies the dilemma. There was the asshole that was in here every time we were that constantly hit on my sister too that was a factor. So the protective streak kept hopping the rails like a train would, the direction it sought suddenly flipped like a switch and damn if that didn't make me feel exposed for all of 60 seconds too long. In fact, it put me downright on edge. I had a feeling you could sense it too because suddenly I was met with a pair of the kindest eyes I had ever seen and I braved that grin for you. Having found the right size ball, our trip back over to our lane was met with one last pitstop and that was to ask for a fresh pie and pitcher to be brought over, the clerk letting me know it would be on the house for the mix up anyway.> Be honest, are you any good? <Chuckling, I take the ball from you to carry as we head back that way. The sight of your brother sitting so close to Rainey causing me to pop my neck and grin over at you.> At the game. Any family secrets I should know about?
Camryn:
{I could sense the anxious energy rolling off of you. And after a few seconds of watching your eyes flick back over to your sister, I recognized that same brotherly protectiveness that Chris sported most of the time. Which honestly, made me like you even to her, but I knew if I were talking to Chris, that wouldn’t have comforted him either. So I stopped myself, instead just following your lead first to the snack bar and then back toward the lane} I used to be decent. {glances over at you with a smile} Our papa was on a league and he used to take us bowling a lot. But I haven’t been for a long time. So I might be a little rusty.
Jaiden:
Rusty or not, it's cool that your family use to bring you. Rainey and I went once before when we were kids but it wasn't until we left the system that our love for it really took off.<Too much, too soon? I didn't think so. The way I looked at it if you weren't interested after that then I knew where you stood. Something told me though that wouldn't be the case as I gazed into your eyes.> Does your Dad not bowl anymore? You said was.. <Which led me to believe something happened or he would have been here today. Still holding your gaze, I stopped just a few feet away from the lane. Close enough to hear your brother start to clear his throat and I motioned for you to go on.> He can wait.
Camryn:
{my curiosity was piqued by your statement. But then you were asking me about papa. And I didn’t know which way to go. With a laugh, I decided to tell you just that} First, I want you to know I’m very curious about your past now. {smiles} I hope you’ll share with me whenever you feel comfortable? And papa is still around. He just… {makes a face} I don’t know how to explain it. He’s different. After mama passed, he stopped leaving the house. We go over there a lot to make sure he’s okay. But he doesn’t like to come out, he stopped working on cars with Chris… It’s almost like he died in a way too. {sighs} I’m sorry. That’s super depressing.
Jaiden:
No, I'm sorry that happened with him. Sometimes things happen to people and they just don't come back the same. <My eyes flickered briefly over to Rainey as I said it, hearing her laugh at something your brother said and I offered you an apologetic look when I turned back, adding a crooked grin into the mix.> I am glad you told me for what it's worth. As for me, I'm an open book. You can ask me anything.
Camryn:
{laughs with a shake of my head} Oh, Jaiden. You shouldn’t have said that to me. Watch this… {pulls you over to where Chris and Rainey are sitting and taps Chris on the shoulder} Hey, Chris? What would you do if… {laughs hard and looks at you again when he groans instantly} See? I ask TOO many questions. And it annoys some people. {sticks my tongue out at Chris}
Jaiden:
Yeah but I'm not some people. I'm Jaiden. <Taking a moment to watch the exchange between you two, I chuckle and shake my head. There was no question you were siblings and as I looked over to Rainey, I kicked my chin up next, our secret signal as if to ask if everything was okay. When she gave me that kind smile of hers in return, I felt the tension leave my shoulders a bit and took a glance up at the scorecard, ready to start our game. As I looked up to see who was going first I see the name LOSER in the spot where mine normally went and my eyes narrowed playfully in my sister's direction.> Cute, Rainey. I'm on your team, remember?
Chris:
[“What would you do if…” Those words meant Cammy was about to unleash a million hypothetical questions on you. And I couldn’t help but groan the second I heard them. I didn’t even care that she was setting me up to prove something to Jaiden if it meant I didn’t actually have to go down that path. But it was my turn to laugh when I realized Rainey had put his name down as loser] I like the odds already. [shoots Rainey a wink]
Rainey:
(There was no Francesca. At least not from Kentucky and not real either. That meant no girlfriend and no wife. Suddenly, I found myself smiling wider at that little known fact now and started to say something moronic like, "That's really great!" when it hit me out of nowhere. Just because there was no Francesca didn't mean there wasn't the possibility of a Fred for you too. I felt silly then for my assumption at first, thinking I read your body language all wrong and was about to ask if there was a Fred instead when both of our teammates showed up. Our conversation cut short.) There you guys are! (It was then that I moved to sit on my knees and address them both, only to be reminded that it was moments ago that it had been just us planning to play, and not teams with new friends.) It was before I asked them. Give me a break. (My tone was teasing even when you give me that wink and I mouthed a quick "Sorry." to my brother. Our fresh pizza and Pepsi arriving then too.) I'm up first! (Gathering up my ball, I took to our lane after thanking the server for bringing our food, making sure Jaiden tipped before I moved to the middle diamond, marking my spot with the tip of my shoe, seeing my shot right as I take it and I come back after rolling a spare. Not bad! Now, it was game on.)
Camryn:
{rolls my eyes at my brother’s cheesy remark, grabbing a piece of pizza instantly. It was, after all, the thing that had convinced me to come in the first place, and taking a seat on one of the chairs off to the side of the lane as I watch Rainey take her for my overprotective brother}
Jaiden:
<I probably sat there and watched the whole thing unfold before me for a good ten minutes. Long enough for your brother to damn near trip over his tongue with the way it rolled out like some damn cartoon with wolf eyes. Only my sister wasn't Jessica Fucking Rabbit. It was payback for the way I had handed the pitcher over and seeing the both of them interact as they were, Rainey all smiles more so than normal, I had to wonder just exactly what your brother's story was, and yours too.> Is it good? The pizza? Best in all the state as far as bowling alley food goes. Not to mention, they serve Pepsi. Speaking of which, do you want? <Chuckling, I got up while you took a bite of pizza to grab us both a cup. The soft nod you gave me as you brought your hand up to cover your mouth was adorable and I poured us some of the tasty beverage, handing you the cup as our siblings became lost in their own conversation, with your brother finally getting up to take his shot when I clear my throat loudly as if to say some time today..> So I'm curious about something. What are you going to tell your boyfriend about me taking you out? <Sitting down beside you now, I ran my arm along the back of your chair, the action causing you to scoot in closer to my side and I take a drink, grinning over at you.>

{Mama always told me to take my time when I’m eating. Especially around boys. It’s not lady like to stuff your face like you haven’t eaten for a week. I never listened to mama. And this pizza was exactly what I wanted. So when you asked me if I wanted some Pepsi, all I could do was nod. Luckily I had managed to swallow and hadn’t taken a sip of my soda yet when you asked that. My eyes automatically darting to my brother because of how he’s covered for me in the past before returning to yours} There is no boyfriend to speak of. {smiles} What about your girlfriend. Will she be mad at me for sitting this close?
Jaiden:
No girlfriend. <I chuckled at your comeback. The assumption on both our parts turning up to be false and yeah, I was happy to hear that.> You know I had to ask with you being so beautiful and all. So what is it that you do? You working anywhere or go to school? <Taking another drink, I watched as you did the same, this unspoken conversation we were having with our eyes was just an added bonus when I bring my free hand up to tuck a loose strand of your hair behind your ear.> Your brother have a job? <I didn't see anything wrong with asking that. Doing a bit of recon work myself, I wanted to know what I had to look forward to in the likes of your brother suddenly hanging around too. I wasn't about to let anyone hurt Rainey.> He got a girl?
Camryn:
{takes my time with my next sip, only popping my brows in response first. If you spent any time around me, you would quickly recognize the tells that I was about to tease you} Hmm…were you thinking about asking him out too? {smiles wide at you. I knew what you were doing. And I didn’t blame you. But I had to tease. Had to. Finally letting a laugh out, I answered you} I am a Laker Girl. {smiles proudly} I’ve worked for it all my life. And my ex ALMOST screwed it up for me. But I made it. I also do a lot of acting and singing. I’m a born entertainer. I’m also in school. It’s one of the requirements actually. {nods seriously} As for Chris, he’s a photographer and does web design to pay the bills. So he lives on his computer. {leans to the side, placing my hand beside my mouth as I whisper} And he’s single. So you’re safe to make your move. {nudges you before busting into a fit of laughter}
Jaiden:
I don't know though.. What if I'm not his type? <Laughing this time, I had been busted before but not quite like that. You were smart, funny and hot. Did I really meet a Laker girl at the bowling alley? Could I be that lucky? You were definitely beautiful enough, that was a given but as I let my eyes wander down along your body, checking you out, even with you sitting I suddenly had visions of you in your uniform. Those routines at half time coming to mind then too and I quickly snap my gaze back up to yours before looking back at the scorecard, coming face to face with a shooting glare when I see that it was officially my turn.> Looks like I'm up. Hold that thought. I want to know more about this singing career of yours and your channel. <I hadn't forgotten about that part either. Grabbing up my ball, I killed what was left of my drink and set the cup down. Moving to take my position to serve you with a strike first thing. Setting the bar pretty high where my competitive nature was concerned.>

{I watched as a series of emotions seemed to play out across your face, relishing in the fact that you seemed to be just as animated as me without meaning too. Then follows your eyes to the scoreboard, nearly humphing that you had to leave, and watching maybe a little too closely as you took your turn. Jumping up and cheering for you when you roll that strike, causing Chris to remind me that you’re the opposition} What? It’s in my nature to cheer. Kind of. {offers him a shrug and laughs before turning back to you as you return to the sitting area}
Jaiden:
<And that's how it went. Every few minutes we would take our turns, keeping up with our separate conversations for the most part outside of the occasional trash talk we seemed to throw one another's way. It was all in good fun even as I moved to help you with your next turn. Not really caring to win one way or the other anymore, the more we chatted, my curiosity piqued.> When are you off? Or maybe I should ask when a good time is to take you out on this date of ours? <grins and grabs up another piece of pizza, offering it to you first.>
Camryn:
{mama’s words were playing out in my head again. “Don’t overeat. That’s not lady like either.” Reaching for the piece, I smiled at you} We practice a couple times a week. And, of course, I dance at all the home games. Other than that it’s kind of up in the air with my other projects. {laughs} But if you give me a date, I’ll make it work. {winks at you as I take a bite of that piece of pizza now}
Jaiden:
We will make it work. <I put emphasis on the "we" part and grinned, picking up another slice and digging into it. Thinking over the evening and what you said while I chewed, I waited until I finished my slice to ask my next question.> You think it would be okay if I came and checked out a home game? See you in action. <Grinning wider at the thought, I shrugged a shoulder as I got up to take my last turn, Rainey calling my attention to the scores. Yeah you didn't have the final say on who could attend but we both knew I would be going to see Then maybe I could escort you home. Unless you have other arrangements made? <Glancing your brother's way when I said that last part, I was waiting for my ball to come back to me on the return.> Does that sound like a plan?
Camryn:
{sits up straighter in my chair, the excitement clear on my face at your question as those butterflies filled my stomach. The idea of you watching me while I was out there would make my night. And I was ready to say yes before you jumped up and went to take your turn. You probably knew my answer anyway as I bobble headed along while you talked} I can get you really good seats too! One of the perks. {my smile dropping slightly} Sometimes I don’t get out of there until a little later though. Will that mess with your work? {tilts my head curiously} What do you do anyway?
Jaiden:
I take a couple of courses then I drive the delivery van for Rainey. Wherever she has a catering gig, I normally will hang out but the last one didn't go so well. <It wasn't really my story to tell, it was Rainey's and while I was okay with sharing anything and everything about myself, there were some things still private for her. Offering a small grin, I nodded impressed, the excitement clear as day on your face and I have a seat next to you to start changing back into my shoes so we can turn our bowling ones in.> I think congratulations are in order. You guys won. <I wasn't even sore about it. Granted, I wasn't sure how well I liked your brother getting all cozy with Rainey but I didn't have much room to talk, did I?> She's going to have her own commercial kitchen one day. That's her dream.
Camryn:
{I could feel the weight of Chris’ stare as we made our plans. But I ignored him. He was NOT going to have any say in this. I did shoot him a smirk though when you came and sat back down next to me so he couldn’t fully eavesdrop on what it was you did} I’m smile} And that you help support her dream. Maybe I could put a good word in with the team next time we need an event catered.
Jaiden:
You would do that for her? <My brows popped at the gesture, my grin widening further when you nod once again and I couldn't help but chuckle. The offer to put in a good word could do wonders for Rainey's business, really getting it off the ground more. The Lakers were nothing to snub your nose at either and the more I thought about it the more I realized just how life changing that could be for her. For us.> Only if you're sure but you know don't have to. I'm still taking you out regardless. <Winking, I gathered up my bowling shoes when you do, walking with you up to the front slowly on purpose to drag the night out, I didn't want it to end even though I knew it had to. It wasn't until we were all outside though, our siblings walking ahead that I slowed even more, turning to face you.> I'm going to call you tomorrow.

{If you were walking slowly on purpose I couldn’t tell. But I sure was. Thank goodness I let Chris talk me into coming tonight. This was way better than the promised pizza. My last thought causing me to let out a soft laugh at myself that probably confused you} Please do. {steps a little closer, leveling my gaze with yours} And like actually call tomorrow, yeah? None of that macho guy stuff where they make you wait a day to not seem too eager. Trust me, I’ve dated those guys and I’m not interested in more of that.
Jaiden:
<Keeping my gaze locked with yours, I let you finish, thinking there was no possible way I was waiting two days to call. Not after the night we had and as I reached out to stroke your reddened cheek, seeing that smile, I shook my head and leaned in, whispering against your ear when we reached your car, your brother having walked Rainey to ours across the parking lot.> You’ll be lucky if I’m not texting you before then. I’m not like other guys, Cammy. <Leaning up against your car with you now, I can’t help but grin then too, seeing that blush deepen across your face..> You’ll see first hand that I’m not. That’s a promise.
Camryn:
{I know I had just met you. But I already trusted you. I’m sure Chris wouldn’t be happy to hear that. But it was the truth. And I found myself chanting in my head, please don’t be too good to be true. Please don’t be too good to be true} I believe you. {playfully glares at you, the effect being lost as my blush betrays me} Don’t make me regret it. {That crooked grin had those butterflies kicking up again as I let out a shy laugh} And you can text me any time you want. I might even assign you your own special tone.
Jaiden:
No regrets. Not even a single letter. <Laughing, I cracked that joke, hoping like hell you've seen that movie when I stopped short, brows furrowing at first before I gave you that crooked grin again. That shy laugh I was sure was going to be my downfall but I was finding I didn't mind the more we spoke. I thoroughly enjoyed the night out bowling with you and went as far to tell you so before opening your car door and waiting for you to step inside. At that last minute however, I took hold of your hand and brought it to my lips, kissing across each knuckle as words left my lips, that grin still firmly in place.> I really had a great time. Text when you get home? <Even that was a date in itself if we thought about, a date I was looking forward to once I were settled for the night.>

{With that kiss to my hand, I was a goner. However this turned out, good or bad, I was in for the ride. Giving your hand a light squeeze as I finally settled into the seat, I smiled up at you} I will. I’ll pick out your special tone on the ride home. {offers you an exaggerated wink and a laugh}

I’m thinking beginner’s luck maybe? (How is it this easy to joke with you? I had been asking myself that all night and almost let the words slip out once or twice when the ice breaker effectively did its job. We had found ourselves in a rather comfortable position. Some mild jabs when it came to our turns during the game but the night had actually turned pleasant which I was grateful for with the addition of yourself and your sister to our little bowling league mix we had going on.) So no Francesca, huh. How is that possible? (A very bold or forward question coming from me. It was so unlike me to even... Oh. Realization hit like a ton of bricks then. Was it considered flirting? If it was, it was so apparent that I was bad at it and BOOM, hi there anxiety.) I'm glad I... mmmet you tonight. (Oh yeah. Yep. Still horrible at it. In fact, my nerves got the best of me and I had to pause so not to stumble over my words. And only when we reached my van, did I take a chance glance your sister’s way with Jaiden, making sure they were okay before I continued on around to the passenger side of my van with you, feeling completely safe in your presence while out of sight of Jaiden’s. Which was another first for me too.)

[I didn’t know where the hell you came from. But I was thanking all the stars and gods that I had the idea to bring Cammy here today. Had I not, I wouldn’t have met you. Which is funny because before tonight, I was completely closed off to the idea of a relationship again after the dumpster fire that was my last. A few minutes with you and I was rethinking the whole thing. You were a total package from what I could tell. Funny, beautiful, a good sport. Hell, you even caused me to lay off of Cammy for the time being while she was clearly getting close to your brother. I couldn’t help the goofy grin that graced my face when you stumbled over your words for a second. Damn if that didn’t just make me like you even more} Honestly? {stops so that I’m standing directly in front of you as you lean back against that van door} I almost had a Francesca. And that was a mess. {rubs the back of my neck before giving a shrug} Kind of turned me off to relationships for a while. {smirks, the fact that I was being so quick to say certain things the exact way I always tell Cammy not to not lost on me as I reach to tuck a piece of hair behind your ear} I’m feeling a little more open to them again now though…
Rainey:
Now? As in right now... (I had zoned in on those eyes of yours first but then that goofy grin was next which only made me smile wider, effectively leaving my gaze to linger on your mouth. You were right there.. That strand of hair you tucked behind my ear fueled my desire to reach out but I stayed right there pressed up against the van. Reminding myself that this wasn't some steamy romance novel. At least not yet.) That's good.. I mean wait no, it's not good. I didn't mean it was good that Francesca hurt you. I would never. (Cue my blush again then, silly me making this more awkward for us both and oh hi anxiety thanks for rearing your ugly head again. Sighing softly, almost embarrassingly so, I give you a kind smile, trying to rein it all in when it felt like you stepped closer. And suddenly it felt really hot..)
Chris:
[Somehow you managed to get more desirable with every minute. And when you made that slip saying you wouldn’t? I grinned probably the most embarrassingly dumb grin I’ve ever grinned in my life. Figuring I might as well go for broke, I stepped a little closer, carefully assessing your face and body language for any resistance as I brought my hand up one more time, this time cupping your cheek as I shook my head} I wouldn’t either. {lets the words hang between us for a few seconds, carefully gauging your reaction for a couple more seconds before whispering] Please don’t slap me. [With that, I took the plunge, leaning in and placing a light kiss to your lips]
Jaiden:
Make it a good one. <That crooked grin wasn't leaving my lips anytime soon. Not when I kept seeing that excited smile grace yours and I reluctantly let your hand slip from my fingers when you finally had a seat in your car. Shutting your door for you, I waited until you rolled your window, giving you a wink first before I dipped my head inside and brushed my lips against your cheek.> Be safe, beautiful. <Righting myself and the world for that matter, I started walking backwards towards the direction of our van, keeping you in my sights for as long I groaned and waited for my sister to get inside. Knowing the drive home was going to met with an awkward as hell conversation.>
Rainey:
(Oh my God.. He was going to do it. One second, I was convincing myself I was never hearing from you again and the next, I was throwing all caution to the wind when your words grand slammed into my brain, finally registering. "Please don't slap me." I melted into a puddle right then and there, legs wobbling, the whole shebang! For that split second in time, I was the heroine of all my books. All those worlds I got lost in and even if it was the smallest of kisses, it meant everything in that moment. Only it wasn't a book I was reading, it was my life. It was ME you were kissing. Very lightly, I returned that kiss, lips slow dancing against yours and I brought my hand up to coax you closer by that soft grasp of your jaw. Completely lost in you until I heard the van door slam and I was catapulted back to my very real reality.) Call me.. (It was a simple request and when you nodded against my lips, ignoring my brother completely, I gave you one last kiss to remember me by.) Night.. (I tried opening my door from behind me, fumbling for the door handle before I finally got it open and I turned to hop inside, coming face to face with my own brother. Mouthing "Not a word!" as he started the van and put it in gear, his groan of disapproval, was laughable and I did just that quietly as we made our way home.) #Kismet #WFW #ForKeeps

First Bloodlines run - here’s how it worked out!
Didn’t get to actually finish - thanks, cutscene glitch - but I got to the last scene and I at least watched the Anarch ending on Youtube XD;; While I really do want to do at least two more runs, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to; either way, I mostly enjoyed my first run a ton!
More detail below the cut - how Sierra turned out as protag, and her views on other characters. I’ll write a separate ‘thoughts on Bloodlines as a game and its characters’ later on, this is just for Sierra’s run specifically.
So, Sierra as a character! Usually super high humanity - most drops were due to glitches or completely accidental (glitch - had to kill Hospital Guy because it flat-out wouldn’t let him escape, danced it back. Accidental - shot one of the hostages at Hollowbrook, felt horrible for it). One non-accidental one was convincing Ash to switch clothes with a guy at the club; she hadn’t expected the hunters to kill first and ask questions later. Yeah, also felt guilty about it. Otherwise, I’m pretty happy to put her at 9 for Humanity - she tried to help everyone she could, aside from those actively trying to kill her.
Ended up a much brainier character than I was expecting, which, uh, is usually what happens with my characters tbh. Still fits her character! She’s not scholarly (was a college drop-out) and prefers actually doing things than sitting still, but she’s clever and curious. Combat was usually almost always melee, because vampires with katanas are cool. High persuasion, she’s good at defusing a situation when fighting isn’t warranted.
Most-used discipline ended up being Animalism. Never did max out Protean :( Did use it a ton in dark areas, but mostly for night vision.
Sidequests - got a lot done. Failed three - Spiritual Release (sorry, ghosts :( ), You Only Die Once A Night (actually, I started this then died with 30 seconds to go, reset, and refused to start it again XD), and Dirty Dishes.
Missed or outright avoided Drug Trip, Trick or Treatment (Heather - the whole storyline with her bugs me), Daydream Believer (Copper is sweet, dammit, don't be mean!!), Replanting a Lily (never went back to the clinic after saving Lily), Traffik, And Her Name Was Venus/Venucide, Pimpin' for Romero, A Dish Best Served Cold (alas, you can’t convince the reviewer to give it a ragingly good review just to piss off SparklingWater XD), Model Citizen/Cover Girl, Poster Session, and all the Chinatown ones (I would have done Gone Fishin' if I had found it, refused Eye Gouge Hell, didn't encounter the others).
Character interactions - ended up ride-or-die Anarch. Part of that was that her literal first impressions were of Nines saving her life and Jack guiding her through how to survive a terrifying, bewildering situation, a lot of it was that she did start out as an activist in the first place, so falling in with the Anarchs was a natural continuation of that. Adores and looks up to Nines, felt horrifically guilty at the blood hunt, and was devastated when she thought he had died at Griffith Park. She was a mess after that (also a good part to do with rotschreck and spending a good five minutes or so trying really hard not to frenzy in terror), and it was only because of Jack that she didn’t fall apart completely. Jack is like the favourite weird uncle - she doesn’t know his involvement in the whole plot and I think wouldn’t quite understand why he set it in motion, but she really likes the impression he shows. Adores Damsel, and she’s not sure what to do with Skelter’s belief in the more religious aspects of stuff but likes him a lot too.
Aside from Nines, the other character she adores the most is Beckett! Her first words to him were literally, “Holy shit how did you do that that’s so cool can you teach me to do that?!”, she finds his adventures and knowledge absolutely fascinating, and she definitely started looking up archeological and anthropological stuff both for her own curiosity and to impress him XD
Other positive relationships - Jeanette is a bit complicated because of the whole Slashterpiece and pendant thing, but damn, at least she didn’t try to kill her like Therese did; while she wanted to reconcile the sisters, she was kind of relieved when Jeanette was the one who survived. Just found her more approachable and welcoming. Also definitely got drawn in by VV. She’s weak for pretty girls XD Got on great with Merc (despite the whole... Cammy thing), Knox, the Thinblood kids (who she hung out with a bunch while still in Santa Monica), Trip, Mitnick, and Ash (who she will fight people to protect). Chunk is a precious being who must be protected at all costs; at the Tower, she advised him that LaCroix was no good and he deserved better.
Complicated situations - initially did think Strauss was okay but her views on him soured fast when she learned about gargoyles. Isaac is mostly fine but they don’t have a lot of common ground, given her preferred genre is ‘loud action movies’ XD She can see why VV looks up to him, though, and felt quite sad about everything with Ash in general. Pisha scared her but she tried really hard not to judge, basically? I mean, predators gotta eat too... The cab driver bothers her for reasons she can’t articulate. Very odd man, that one. When she learned why the Southland Slasher was doing what he was doing, she felt sorry for him, and encouraged him to join the Anarchs for direction and a more positive outlet for his emotions.
Antagonists - mostly didn’t take pleasure in killing them, but she definitely felt pretty satisfied stabbing LaCroix >.> Will have nightmares for the rest of her unlife about Andrei’s house and the sanctum at Hollowbrook, the Mandarin’s tests, and the expression on Ash’s face when he talked about how much the Society of Leopold enjoyed torturing him. Gimble freaked her the hell out. And if she ever catches Vandal Cleaver alone, she’s going to flat-out kill him if she gets the opportunity.
For the future, I’ve been trying to work out how she and Lettow supposedly know each other (he mentions the fledgling as ‘a friend of mine’), given their opposing political views. I’m thinking their common ground would be that they’re both Gangrel; I can see them meeting by chance at some point, and Sierra requesting tutoring in Protean forms, which Lettow is pretty damn good at (she might be higher generation, 8th to his 9th, but he’s a lot older and more experienced).

Belle Quacks Chapter 7
Waking up in Camellia’s bed again, Belle stared up at the ceiling again. Yesterday was foggy, all she remembered was Darkwing and his beautiful friend Morgana asking about the day before. Not that she really remembered what was said but she has some details that stayed in her mind such as her friend’s store windows shattered on the ground and the way Darkwing looked at her when she didn’t respond to his question. The bright side was definitely Morgana, maybe because she was nice to her. Then again, so was Launchpad and Camellia but she didn’t feel the same as with Morgana. Maybe because she was intimidating but nice? Yeah, that’s it. She thought so at least. “Hey, Jingles, want any breakfast?” Camellia asked from the doorway of the bedroom, still looking a bit dishevelled. The duck sat up, nodding a little before looking at her phone. No missed calls, a good sign. Just as she was about to put it down, she got a call. “Hello?” She asked, rubbing her eyes. “Hey Belle, it’s Morgana. I want to get to know you better so I thought I’d ask if you want to meet me for lunch?” Morgana was asking to hang out with her? That’s kind of cool! “Yeah! I’m bad with times but when?” She started rocking again. “How about noon thirty? And it’s okay, I get it.” The sorceress replied. They said their goodbyes and hung up. Belle ran into the main room. “Camellia, can you remind me at quarter to eleven to get ready and then noon to leave, Morgana wants to meet me for lunch.” Camellia nodded, handing her a plate. “That gives you about an hour forty five to eat your breakfast. Can do, Sweet.” Belle looked at the bacon and toast on the plate, grabbing a coffee from the fridge. Sitting down, she turned on the TV and switched the channel to some random cartoon. The colours were nice to look at if she zoned out.
Belle ate her breakfast at a decent pace, finishing the plate. After that, she downed her coffee before looking through her stuff that Camellia got for her from her place. ‘A yellow dress would be nice.’ She thought to herself, noticing one that was sunflower themed. Not only that but she has some great sunflower earrings that she could wear with it, green socks and her brown flats. Perfect given the weather outside. She took the outfit she planned and headed to the bathroom for a shower. Camellia shook her head, laughing at her friend’s enthusiasm. She was quite a bit ahead schedule but that just went to show how excited she was. Morgana was a nice woman so Camellia wasn’t too worried until a vine came in through the window. Camellia rushed over once she saw Bushroot. “This is risky you know, Belle’s staying here and she’s going to hang out with Morgana today!” She whispered harshly. “Look, we have to do it tonight! I know, I know but it’s the best night for it! Darkwing will be preoccupied with SHUSH stuff tonight.” He explained, frantic. Camellia stared at the locked bathroom door. “Morgana might be there Bushroot. It’s a difficult thing.” Morgana was a potential obstacle when it came to their plan. “Another role you’ll have to play.” She was beginning to rethink this due to how Belle was in stressful situations but was there a better way? “Fine but you’ve gotta go, okay? Belle will be done soon.” Bushroot nodded, retreating. Belle walked out of the bathroom, still drying her hair. “Cammy? Why are you by the window?” She asked. “You know I like fresh air in the morning. I’m a bit of mess and don’t wanna leave the building.” The fox lied smoothly, looking her friend dead in the eyes. “Did Morgana say where you’re meeting?” Belle looked confused then shook her head. The duck said she’d ask her quickly. Once she left into the bedroom, Camellia muttered prayers to her gods, mostly apologising for the deception she’s putting her friend through. It was, also, to make herself feel better, hoping for good karma to reward her friend even if she has to ensure it.
“She said the cafe you and I usually go to. I should go before I forget.” She looked really happy, bringing a smile to Camellia’s face. “Okay, but stay safe. Can we, maybe, check on your store afterwards?” She asked, knowing her friend would likely agree. “Sure, I wanna take my blueprints there anyway.” The small duck hugged her friend goodbye, taking her purse but forgetting the keys to her store. Camellia looked at the keys, feeling the guilt well up more. Belle was shaking as she walked, deciding to take the long route. She was nervous, after all, who wouldn’t be? Morgana and her only met yesterday and Morgana was pretty, seemed to be of a healthy weight and tall. The opposite of her. Maybe she was a little insecure, or very insecure, but she still felt excited to have a new friend, even if the word ‘friend’ felt off. Once at the cafe, she ordered her usual drink and sat outside so Morgana could see her.

"Jayla, come get this boy." Trey snaps.
I jog up to him. "How did you end up with Caden? Tremaine I'm thinking you need to be away from them to protect them. They fucking made you sick."
"Yeah." He says low. "I'm not feeling this. I want to go home."
"Okay." I say kissing him. "You go tell Chris."
He sighs walking away. "Imma just chill. I'm good."
"Tremaine?"
"It's nice out here." He says sitting down on the balcony. "Imma sit here til you come back. I don't feel like acting like I got life in me. I mean that as in... just go."
I stare at him for a minute. "I got time for you to get your words straight."
He pushes my butt. "People ignore me when you around. Go."
"Okay, Tremaine." I says shaking my butt then walking away. "Caden?"
"Yeah." Rollie says walking out of the house.
I smile. "Rollie, go entertain my husband."
Rollie sighs. "Man, all he gonna talk about is you. Fucking pathetic."
"Rollie."
"I know you see me walking over there." He snaps.
I stand at the door to see if Trey accepts Rollie's company. Trey chuckles a bit looking at Rollie as he sits down. I walk into the house. I feel sad. I walk into April's room. She rolls her eyes then she acts like I'm not there. Eww. Attitude. I sit on the bed acting like she didn't roll her eyes at me.
"I'm going to call the psychologist to have breakfast with us in the morning. Like Imma do a private fake romantic breakfast with just me and Trey. You can come in with the lady."
"Gee... thanks."
I giggle. "Why you got an attitude, April?"
She turns her back to me. "Why you bring that fake ass boy in here? He ain't nothing but trouble."
"Caden, what you do to grandma?"
"He fake. Take him back." She snaps.
I watch him as he breastfeed. "Caden says sorry."
"No, Cammie, he didn't."
"Mama?" I giggle.
She turns around sitting up looking at Caden. She grabs his leg. He kicks her with the other leg smiling. I didn't know he had games already. April rolls her eyes again.
"You asking for trouble." April says lying back down.
"If you think I shouldn't do it then say that."
She rests her hand on my face. "If you weren't so pretty I would slap you."
"Mama." I laugh. I swat her hand away. "Get off of me."
"Your mother is here."
"Okay, April."
She reaches back up in the air. "Go sit on her bed and talk to her."
"If you don't stop I'm going to tell Trey about that man who was all up in your hotel room. Did you tell Trey where you been? Fast ass."
She laughs really loud. "Tell him all about it. Go into details."
"You fake." I say laying Caden down on the bed.
"He has to be in that bassinet. He rolls." She says pointing.
I pick it up off of the floor then put it next to her. She picks it up throwing it to the foot of the bed. I laugh while picking Caden up. If she don't stop being childish tonight. I hold Caden looking at her. She slowly grabs the bed bassinet and put it next to her in the bed. I lay Caden in it. His butt almost too big for this. I smile at him. I love my baby. I lean down kissing him a million times. He starts whining. I stop.
"Take him with you." April sucks hsr teeth.
"I'm going back outside, Ma. He is sleeping."
"You need to fix my baby." She mumbles.
I look at her. She looking back at me. I just stare. I so badly wanna go off. Bitch you should have raised a stable fucking son inside of an insecure man who needs fucking validation from his friends and society. But that a whole mother argument for an irrelevant end goal. She his mama, I'm his wife. Don't know who stands more ground in this battle. This silent cold war nobody actually fighting to win. I smile then I turn around walking out. I should have took her phone and emailed the psychologist. I go into the room to check on Lane. He isn't in the bed. I call CiCi.
"Can you discreetly get the psychologist lady from Florida that I talk after I had Caden over here in the morning? Whatever her price."
"Hi, Cammie."
I take the phone from my ear. "Hi, CiCi. Thank you, have a good night."
I head to my mother's room looking for Lane. He is laying there awake kicking his feet. Mama was rubbing his belly talking to him quietly. She cuts her eyes at me. I backup out of the room peeking into the crack to see if he paid me any attention. He was too sleepy. He grabs Mama's hand and hold it on his stomach. He laughs then rolls over on his back closing his eyes. She put a spell on him. He moves just a bit then stays still as she hums. I never thought about the injustice that I was causing by not pushing for them to spend time with their other grandma. Who am I to pick favorites for them? I feel a bit bad.

Trey closes his eyes after the silence between use grow louder. It takes a lot out of me to be around these two. My sister and Trey are toxic. Not so much for each other but the people who have to witness their down time. Sometimes it makes you feel like their relationship is shit. Kinda lose hope in them.
"Cammie never told your mother about the night in college."
"Wow, your shit deep." I blow. What I just say. Toxic.
Trey sits up looking at me. "Their relationship might need that."
"Who are you to say?"
"Who am I not to try?"
Damn. I shake my head. "Be brave bitch."
"You always skating around shit cause..."
"And you don't skate around shit enough. Hell you skating on thin ice."
Trey leans back in the chair. "I see you not gonna be any help."
"That's suicide." I say. Shit. If only I could taks that back and be sensitive. Fuck it's out there.
"Don't fear speaking your mind. Like Imma take the shit literally. Damn, I ain't know you were soft like all these bitches."
"Bitch, unlike them I'm always down to fucking kick your ass. No matter."
Cammie stands there looking between us. Trey sits up in his chair preparing to get up. Yeah run on with your wife. I watch Trey closely. He thinking too damn hard over there. He stands up putting his hands on Cammie. Nigga bout to be talking soft now. His ass better not start that damn conversation here.
"It's a good thing your mama in town." Trey says. Awh hell.
"I was just thinking that." Cammie says.
I sit up. Me and Trey both say, "You were?"
She sucks her teeth. "Yall were just fighting. Now you in sync?"
"We weren't actually fighting." Trey shrugs. "Just wanted him to know I'm that fucking nigga and I ain't taking his shit."
"Thanks for explaining it." I say.
Trey glances at me. "Your brother a bitch."
"That's good bitch."
"I'm not even." Cammie snaps walking away.
It's just so easy to go back and forth with him. Ain't nothing wrong. I don't feel like fighting the nigga. Just feels like old times. Talking shit. For what reason I don't know. I'm not mad he gonna get her to open up to my mother. Just don't know if it would solve shit with my mother. Then again she standing here talking like she needed my mother in town. So I don't know.
"Roe." Leah whines.
"Mother of the land." I say turning to the house.
Trey and Cammie walk away. Leah sighs coming out. She says she feels like shit after the plane ride. I been trying to make her feel comfortable. I'm tired of that shit.
"Are they mad at me?" She whispers. "They didn't speak."
"Did you speak?"
She looked really sad. "I waved."
I shrug. "They not mad with you. I told you the state of everything."
"I hate to be that pregnant woman always complaining about being pregnant but damn I'm too old for this. It was so easy when I was younger."
"You too soft."
She touches her belly. "I was having gas pains."
"Hey, Leah." Trey says kneeling where he was sitting before.
"Hey, Trey." She says staring at him.
He smiles. "Look at you all pregnant. You feeling that shit now aren't you?"
"Yeah." She sighs.
Trey walks away with his phone. Leah smiles then looks at me. She up there bitching like somebody ignoring her. I didn't see her wave as she say she did. Her foggy pregnant ass probably only thought she did. I walk up to her.
"What you come looking for me for?" I ask.
"To see if you still interested." She says rubbing her belly.
"In you?" I retort.
"Don't say it like that."
I wrap my arms around her. "You smart, you beautiful, you loyal as a bitch, you got those wet lips and these... where my interest going?"
"Whatever." She rolls her eyes.
"Damn you act like I treated you like shit before. I always treated your ass good."
She sucks her teeth. "I told you I don't mean it. I can't stop."
"Yeah. I forget." I say rubbing her ass. "Let's sit with everyone for a few minutes since you feeling good now."
"But if I'm feeling bad later you won't..."
"That's fine. We want everyone to see your good side. That you can try."
She nods. "I do."
We walk out onto the beach. They now had a big fan out here blowing cool air. The fire was burning huge taller than the pit that it sat in. Chris laughs and pokes at the fire. He like a stunted man child. A sensitive one who always makes trouble. I let Leah sit in the only available chair and I sat on the sand next to her.
"Yo, Rollie, how was it as a child growing up with a musician as a father?" Trey asks.
"What you mean?" I shrug.
Trey frowns. "Your mother told me he traveled for doing music."
I shrug my shoulders. "I don't know."
"He was famous?" Chris asks leaving the fire allow.
"He wasn't famous." Cammie says.
"He produced and made fucking music with people like Prince and Aretha Franklin. He sold the rights to one of his songs to Prince. Sounds like a big fucking deal. But you don't talk about it."
Cammie rolls her eyes at him. "I didn't even know that."
I shrug. "Obviously we don't talk about it."
"Shit if my father..."
"Died." I finish for Trey. "You wouldn't talk about the shit."
Trey shrugs. "I would name drop every chance I got if my father was there. If he was successful and active in my life. I would honor his in some type of way."
"I could kill your father for you." I nod.
"You got to get the bitch to stop drinking and shit first so he can be there then kill the nigga."
"Guess it wouldn't make if you damn near 40."
Cammie sits up. "What is wrong with the two of you? Damn just go out in the water and fight it out."
"Damn kill each other?" Dee asks.
"Trey a bitch he can take it." I say.
Chris laughs really loud. "Damn Rollie it's like that."
I look at Chris. "What are you talking about?"
"You said Trey can take dick."
"What the fuck?" Trey snaps.
Chris laughs really loud. "Rollie said it."
"Aight." I say getting up.
Chris hyper ass leaps out of his chair catching on early that I was coming for him. He runs out into the open laughing too hard to run. He falls spinning in mid air and landed on his back. I pick his chair up moving it near Leah. Everybody ignores Chris and starts talking about something else. Chris is a damn fool and everybody used to it.
"I think we should have Leah's baby shower away from her family." Cammie laughs. "Far away. They steal."
"I'll go home with 2 single diapers and decorations."
"Six kids and dirty pots even though we used paper products." Cammie says. "No baby stuff."
Leah giggles sleepy. "Yeah."
I watch her start to doze off. Cammie giggles and rubs her stomach.
"I miss being pregnant." She smiles.
"The hell if you do." He says giving his phone an evil look.
I love my silly ass sister. Her and Leah get alone better than anything which is good. Unlike Drew's ass who still hates Cammie. You would think I was an inappropriate brother or some shit. Leah sits up really fast.
"Cammie you just gonna let me go to sleep outside?" Leah snaps.
"Girl." Cammie says passing something over to Leah. "Eat this."
Leah takes it. "Are you pregnant? Is this a marshmallow and sausage?"
"Fool, it's a brownie." Cammie giggles. "I'm on birth control."
"And that helped you both times." Leah says biting the strawberry.
I lean over and bite the brownie off the stick. She pouts about it but doesn't say anything to me.

YA Girls Doing Cool Things
There’s no good word that really encapsulates the books on this list, but these are some of my actual favorites. Basically if it’s Ally Carter-esque, it’s on this list. Spies, thieves, girls saving the world. We love it. (There might be some repeats from other lists here but again girls run the world).
Ally Carter
Gallagher Girls** (6 Books): This is probably my ALL TIME favorite book series and I’m not ashamed of it. It just gets better and better with each book and I’ve reread the series at least four times now (except for the first book, I don’t care about that one). This is that Tik Tok where it’s like “if you watch this, you are a beautiful person and I want to marry you.” Ally Carter pioneered the teenage girl spy genre and no series has ever held a candle to this. I would die for Cammie and Zach. If Netflix or Disney+ doesn’t make this into a TV Show or movie series, they’re really losing out. 
Heist Society** (3 Books): Not to be outdone, Heist Society is neck and neck with Gallagher Girls. It’s a series of European heist adventures and the ensemble cast is SO GOOD. It’s basically a YA Ocean’s 11 that’s not so male-centered. I would also die for Kat and Hale, and my heart combusted when Ally Carter wrote a GG x Heist crossover novella. Anyways, we love a genius girl thief and a billionaire heir working with a ragtag group of teen geniuses to pull off impossible heists. 
Embassy Row (3 Books): This series had SO MUCH potential. It didn’t quite live up to expectations as the follow up to GG and Heist, but you know I still read all three books. The characters just weren’t as likable and I just felt it could have been better, but it’s still an enjoyable read. 
Jennifer Lynn Barnes
The Fixer Duology**: I saw this recommended on BookTube and picked it up on a whim and I’m so glad I did. This was good af and I didn’t even care that there was minimal romance. The story was juicy and that plot twist at the end of the first one got me good. With a blurb like “Scandal meets Veronica Mars,” it set some high expectations and did not disappoint. Pick this up if you like Gallagher Girls/Ally Carter in general because it literally has the same vibes. 
The Naturals Series: This is basically marketed as YA Criminal Minds so you know I gotta read it. I haven’t yet, but I will because it also has one my favorite tropes: a doomed side romance. Anyways, if it’s similar to The Fixer, I know I’m going to enjoy this series. It’s right up my alley, and I’m ready to go along for the ride as they crack some cold cases as teenagers. 
Maureen Johnson
Truly Devious Trilogy** by Maureen Johnson: So this is written with alternating timelines: the past when the murder occurred and the present where Stevie Bell, the protagonist is trying to unravel the mystery of what happened so many years ago. Along the way there’s more murder and a tiny bit of romance but this is a great cold case mystery that happens concurrently with a crime in the present. Also, boarding school. We love that trope. I just saw there will be a fourth standalone novel in this series next year so I’m hyped. 
Shades of London Series by Maureen Johnson: Again, something about hunting Jack the Ripper really intrigues me. Except this time, it’s with ghosts and ghost hunters. I’m still anxiously awaiting the fourth book but I think MJ got distracted with Truly Devious so I’m not too mad but damn. Anyways, read if you like mystery, danger, ghosts, people that can see ghosts, and murder. There’s also a splash of love. (also one thing I really appreciate Maureen Johnson doing well is that she can so easily switch up the love interest but you’re just so on board with it).

Does anyone else find it pretty unlikely that every single main character in Gallgher girls has perfect vision? Like there's no way they all have 20/20 eyesight. I know its said in the books that Cammie has 20/20 so that rules her out. Here's are my humble thoughts on the thing-
I desperately wish I could remember who it was that I read this headcannon from but alas I don't. So this one isn't mine. Joe needs reading glasses as he gets older. Rachel thinks it's so stinking cute. The kids know better to mess with him so they don't say anything too bad. They secretly know that he's too cool for them to be lame on him.
I'm inclined to say that maybe Townsend and Zach might have to wear contacts or glasses? I could totally see Townsend wearing his glasses at home, reading and drinking tea. Abby secretly loves it but makes fun of him for it. (But secretly he knows that she loves it, so he does it anyway)
Zach probably wears only contacts and Cammie didn't even know he needed glasses till they got married or moved in together. After she found out she BEGGED him to let her see. He finally did. She said it made him look cute and sexy. So he started to wear them more. Than Macey swung by one early morning and saw him in them and bust out laughing. She said that he looked "just like his father". After it was said they all couldn't unsee it. Zach strictly wears them at home. With cammie and no one else.
I feel like maybe Liz? Hear me out. Liz felt shy after grade school to wear them. She was already so smart and got teased for that. She ditched the glasses to get as far way from the cliche as possible. Everyone tells her she looks good in them though. So, eventually she says I'm smart. Deal with it. She wears them as an adult.
The last person to round out our little poor sighted gang is Tina Walters. It's a closely guarded secret though so like maybe don't tell anyone or she drop a fake secret to the national guard and before you know it they're knocking on your door.

Sid startles awake and for a split second, he’s not sure what woke him. Nothing looks amiss and he feels—oh. The feeling washes over him so quickly, he doesn’t have time to even get out of bed before he’s sick. Somehow he makes it to the bathroom between bouts and slumps to the cool tile floor, hoping he doesn’t wake Geno.
By the time he’s confident it’s really over, he’s beyond exhausted, weak and clammy and his head feels like it weighs a hundred pounds. All he wants is to go back to bed but the sheets are wrecked so he forces himself to his feet and sets out to clean up the mess.  
He’s miserable and moving slowly but eventually he manages to gather the sheets and drag himself quietly down to the laundry room before his luck runs out.
“Sid?” Geno’s voice is sleep rough, filled with confusion.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“What you doing?” Geno cocks his head to the side like he can’t quite figure out what’s going on.  
“I, um, I’m really sorry. I got sick but I’m washing the sheets. I’m going to clean everything up.”
Geno doesn’t look so sleepy anymore after that. He’s sliding an arm around Sid’s waist before Sid can say anything more, guiding him out of the laundry room.
“I can clean up the sheets.”
“No. You sick, not feel well. You need rest, Sid. Don’t argue with me.”
Sid wants to argue anyhow but, well, he hasn’t felt this bad in a long time. He’s honestly not sure how much longer he can stay on his feet so he slumps against Geno and lets himself be guided to a bed.
His eyes fall shut almost as soon as his head hits the pillow. It’s not until a few minutes later, when Geno slides in behind him that Sid blinks his eyes open, realizing this is Geno’s bed.
“Shit, G. M’sorry,” he says softly. “I should take the couch.”
Geno scoots closer and starts smoothing Sid’s hair back, sounding frustrated when he talks. “No. Not having you sleep on couch. Have other guest bed if that was issue. Want you close so I can keep an eye on you, help if you need it. Let me take care of you, okay?”
Suddenly, Sid can’t remember any of the reasons he should be arguing. All he knows is that he feels horrible and he’s so worn down and Geno wants to take care of him and he doesn’t have any resistance left right now. “Thank you,” He croaks, leaning into Geno’s touch.
When he still isn’t feeling much better the next morning, Geno puts his foot down. “Taking you to doctor. Know you not want to miss school and work but you can barely walk.” It’s a testament to how bad Sid feels that he just nods and lets Geno help help him get dressed.
Dr. Agarwal (Sid still can’t bring himself to call her Cammy) is concerned but she concedes that Sid probably has a virus and that’s what’s causing the worst of his symptoms. “I’m still concerned that you’re overdoing it, Sidney.”
Sid sits up on the exam table, almost immediately listing to the side to lean on Geno. “I reduced my work hours and I’m drinking a lot of water, I swear.”
She purses her lips together briefly but then finally nods. “Alright. Let’s re-evaluate after you’ve recovered from the virus. If you’re feeling better on Monday and keeping down plenty of fluids then I’m okay with you going back to work. Until then, you need to be resting.”
Sid sighs. “Okay.”
Dr. Agarwal glances up at Geno who nods at her. “I make sure he rest. I keep good eye on him.”
She smiles at them before patting Sid’s knee. “Let Geno keep his word, Sidney. Get some rest and call me if anything changes. I want you to promise.”
“I promise,” he says as he tiredly pulls his shirt back on.
Geno isn’t thrilled about leaving to go to practice but he leaves every imaginable item Sid could possibly need on the bedside table and by the time he gets back, Sid’s still sleeping soundly. He sleeps most of the rest of the day, only rousing when Geno comes in and nudges him to drink some water and take some sips of broth. He still feels terrible but he doesn’t get sick again so he counts that as a win every time he settles back down into the pillows.
Sid only vaguely registers Geno coming to bed that night and getting up to shower early the next morning. When he wakes up again it’s after eleven and he’s pleasantly surprised to find he doesn’t feel half as bad as he had the day before. He’s also starving which he hopes is a good sign.
He’s sitting at the breakfast bar cautiously nibbling on a cracker when Geno comes home, eyebrows flying up in surprise as soon as he spots Sid. “Hi, how you feeling?”
Sid nods. “A little bit better, I think?  Kind of hungry, actually.”
Geno smiles at him. “I bring you soup if you think you can handle more than cracker.”
Sid is definitely interested in soup and he’s pleased when he’s able to keep it down. Geno shoos him away when he tries to help clean up, guiding him out of the room towards the stairs, instead. “Need rest. Don’t worry about dishes. I take care of it.”
And, well, he is kind of tired so he lets himself be tucked back in to Geno’s big bed to spend the rest of the day sipping on Gatorade and napping with the TV on.
He's feeling well enough by dinner for more soup and a piece of toast, but by Geno's standards still not well enough to help clean up. Sid gets shooed back to bed even as he whines about being sick of sleeping.
“Oh. Maybe we watch tv?”
He’s still nudging Sid along towards the bedroom and Sid wants to protest but Geno has been so good to him today and the bed is really comfortable so he lets himself be herded back into it. He settles against the headboard and laughs along with the Friends marathon until he’s drifting off against Geno’s shoulder.
The closer they get to the preseason, the busier Geno is. He’s up early the next morning and frowns when Sid pads into the kitchen just before he leaves. “Feel okay? Need anything?”
Sid shakes his head. “I’m just getting some water and toast. I’m okay, really.”
Geno hesitates near the door.
“G, come on. I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about me.”
“Don’t overdo it, okay?”
“I promise. Just going to grab a bite and rest some more. Go practice.”
“Okay. I be back in few hours.”
And if “resting” means taking a swim before it’s too hot and doing homework in the den while the TV plays quietly in the background, well, Geno doesn’t need to know.
Geno brings him home soup again and while it’s delicious, Sid’s craving something a little more hearty. He doesn’t complain, though, just tries to scoop more chicken and pasta into his bowl and thanks Geno for bringing it.
The approaching season apparently mean naps for Geno and when he encourages Sid to join him, Sid doesn’t mind because he didn’t actually sleep the morning away today and he settles in happily.
Geno seems distracted as he gets ready to leave for meetings later. “More soup in fridge, crackers and bread in pantry.”
“Actually, I was thinking maybe I might try some pasta or something tonight.” Geno’s brows pull in but before he can say anything Sid says, “I won’t overdo it.”
Geno smiles. “Sorry. I just worry.”
“I know and I promise I’ll take it easy.”
“Don’t have to cook. Order anything you want for deliver, I pay.”
“We’ll see. I’ll figure out what I want to eat later. You should go before you’re late.”
“Am Captain,” he says, jutting his chin out. “They not start without me.”
Sid makes himself pasta and a piece of toast for dinner and the whole process wears him out more than he’d care to admit. It’s a relief not to have Geno over his shoulder fretting about it the whole time. He feels a little guilty about that but as nice as it’s been having someone take care of him, it’s getting to be a little overwhelming now that he’s slowly feeling a little better.
Sid doesn’t mean to fall asleep but once he’s had some carbs and watches part of a movie, he just kind of drifts off. He wakes to Geno’s gentle hands, carefully nudging his arm. “Sorry to wake you but couch probably hard on your back. Should be in bed.” Sid stretches and lets Geno shuffle him off to bed again.

gen:lock code names
Okay I know everyone is freaking out about Nemesis and what the fuck is going on with that but lets take a moment to talk about the Holons and their possible code names? We know Yaz named her Holon Huma (Huma the Holon) but what about the others? What are their code names? Is Chase keeping his codename Chaser? Do they not get code names? If they do get code names what are Val/entina, Kazu and Cammies code names?
I have an inkling of what Kazu’s might be. Well, pulling up the poster we see the back of his cool jacket (that I want please give me it RT) it has the word yokai on it along with the kanji for yokai (I don’t know how to read kanji I’m just going off my research.)

Now it may be just Kazu being Kazu and its just for the aesthetic or even just a patch because beneath it is “wine-spirits-beer” so it’s maybe a bar he went to in Japan. BUT we also have to look at his Holon

Yokai are spirits, demons, just all around supernatural beings in Japanese lore. Certain yokai have animal characteristics, look at my boys horns that look like ox horns. Love him. Now, I’m saying his code name is going to be Yokai, okay I guess I am saying that, but his code name could maybe Oni. Oni are yokai that are demons/ogres/trolls that are depicted to have various shades of skin, one of them being red, and horns coming out of their head. Oni are depicted having iron clubs leading to the Japanese expression “oni with an iron club” which basically means being invincible, unbeatable, so going by Kazu’s fighting style I’m sure he thinks he’s invincible when charging in.
Is his code name Oni? Yokai? Ox? Honestly I like to think it depends on how it feels to yell it in battle, I’m sure if it isn’t catchy when said then it’ll ruin the immersion and make you go “ah yes, amazing dialogue- wait did they just call Kazu Batarang?” Now, I could be wrong because I’m not the gen:crew and just someone who loves all sorts of mythology but I don’t think it’s out of the question.
