“Oubliette” hit me much harder than I was expecting. Sorry to everyone, but this post is going to get a little bit personal.

So, I have complex post traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). Personally, I found this episode to be such powerful exploration of trauma that it left me reeling.

Firstly, I took the episode symbolically, wherein the whole story was an allegory for Lucy’s trauma. Amy’s situation paralleling hers felt to me like a real depiction of what it’s like to have flashbacks. While I don’t often get visual flashbacks, I do get emotional flashbacks, and that side of it resonated beyond measure with me. I almost cried when Lucy said “I don’t want to do this again”, because that’s exactly what it’s like for me to face my triggers.

Also, Amy’s injuries appearing on Lucy as a physical demonstration of how the past is still mentally hurting her felt very validating.

I related to Mulder’s trauma too. I take responsibility for everyone around me to ensure that nothing like what traumatised me happens again, and I saw that in Mulder’s desperation to change things for fear of a repeat of what happened to his sister, for example, the CPR on Amy.

Mulder’s distress when he realised that Lucy had sacrificed herself for Amy was impactful for me too. I’ve had to learn the hard way that I am ultimately powerless to control what happens to other people, and that upsets me greatly, as it did him. There’s also a sense of inevitability and inescapability from the cycle of trauma when you experience these things again that is deeply harrowing.

I’ve worked a lot on healing my inner child with my therapist. The ending of this episode, with Lucy’s death and Amy’s survival, felt like a message that it’s possible for the trauma in me to recede, and the child I never got to be to be free.

I left this episode emotional, but so grateful that something I could see so much of myself in something I love so much.

Finally, if this is relatable and you want to talk to someone who understands, please feel free to message me. It sounds hollow to say, but it really does get better, even if you don’t think that applies to you. I had gotten so used to living with trauma that I never thought I’d exist without it, and yet here I am, doing better than I ever thought possible!

your boyfriend just came home from a long day of training. thankfully the agency was close to your guys’ apartment, but that also meant his sweat was fresh too…

“welcome home!” you cheer as you prepare dinner for you two.

“hi honey,” his sweet voice comes behind you and looks over your shoulder to see what you’re making, about to hug you from behind.

“hanbinnn, i told you to shower when you get home” you shimmy forward and look up to him with a lighthearted pout.

he laughs, “i don’t even smell that bad!” you furrow your eyebrows, waiting for him to accept reality. he sighs, “okay okay, i’ll be quick, love you!” walking to your guys’ room to wind down and shower.

…

hanbin comes out of the room in his pajamas and a shower headband in a shape of a dog’s face, hair still damp. you can’t help but chuckle, “i’m glad you like my gift,” he smiles “whatever”

you guys eat dinner and talk about each other’s days, quieting down just to enjoy the food and quality time. you wash the dishes together and get ready to watch a show in bed.

hanbin realizes he’s left his headband in for a bit too long, “ah, now my hair dried all weird” he mops sitting up in bed. you coming out from the washroom, finished your nightly routine, smiles. “its okay,” you laugh “here, i’ll fix it.” you walk up to his side of the bed.

you take off the headband slightly, hanbins looking up at you with a warm smile. he wasn’t wrong, his hair was disheveled, half up, half drooping. you dont say anything though, you just run your fingers through his hair, fluffing and loosening it while combing it down to its normal state. hanbin sighs and leans his head into your chest, “this is really nice” you smile and continue playing with it a bit.

“okay you’re handsome as always now, lets watch this episode, i heard from hao that its really dramatic” you open up the blanket hanbin is under so you can sit between his legs and lean back on him. he was so greatful to have small moments like this with you.

lee jeonghyeon

jeonghyeon and you were studying the the same course at your guys’ uni apartment… more like you were forcing him to study.

he goes on and on talking about being some genius lee and thats why he doesn’t need to study. however, his recent test grades say otherwise, which is why you guys are studying together now.

when you guys were studying together, he had some questions about some topics and he seemed genuinely interested in getting better for his grades. you were charmed by his lost looks and wanted more, so you teased him.

“hey y/n what does this term mean again?” jeonghyeon points to a word you know but you can’t give it to him so easily when he looks so cute with a small pout.

you smile and lean in close to him, you can see it in his eyes, he’s freaking out a little bit, trying to focus on something other than your pretty face. “hmm, i’ll tell you if i get a kiss” you grin without teeth. his ears were getting red and he leaned back, he didn’t want to give in so quickly, even though his heartbeat doubled in speed.

“w-why ? you didn’t do this when i asked before?” jeonghyeon couldn’t even sound calm, your hand was on the table so close to yours, making him even more nervous. you go back to your original position, “okay you can figure it out on your o-“ you were pulled in for a warm kiss. he holds onto your hand.

immediately reciprocating, you scoot your chair closer to him and deepen the kiss. after a minute, you guys pull apart out of breath. you were so surprised with his immediate affection, you were now with the red face.

“can you tell me the answer now?” he smiles lightly with swollen lips. you still find him so cute like this, knowing he just wanted to kiss you but acting like it was for schoolwork.

you smile, let go of his hand in order to play with the ends of his hair on the back of his head. “i think you made me forget,” he shyly smiles looking away but still letting you play with his hair.

he pulls your head into his shoulder, “you know i really like this, we should study more together.”

zhang hao

you work as a freelancer, mostly online, so naturally as your boyfriend, zhang hao, is busy studying to be a music instructor, you spend most of your day alone until he comes from practice.

around an hour before hao comes home you prepare dinner, but you know his busy schedule can be unexpecting. to make sure he has a hot meal ready, you keep the food covered on the dinner table. so you can reheat the dinner once he gets home.

waiting for hao, you sit on the couch while watching a reality show. you sit properly but slowly lean your head back and dose off.

you woke up when you felt a shift in your lap. you also realise the feeling of a neck pillow around you. oh whats this… you slowly rub your eyes open, your show is still on but muted. looking down in your lap you see zhang hao, still in his outside clothes and sound asleep.

he looked so calm and affectionate, snuggling closer even in his sleep. you felt so grateful to be his safe space. you couldnt help but run your fingers through his soft hair and rub the back of his neck.

hao being a light sleeper wakes up and peeks one eyes open, “mmm i love you,” he mumbles. you smile. “i love you too hao, you must be hungry” you lean to the side to get your phone but hao grumbles cutely, eyes still closed.

“can you keep doing that for a little?” you were confused, “do what?” you see the time, it’s already too late for dinner.

“playing with my hair,” he usually isn’t this straightforward, but his tiredness seemingly made him this cute.

you giggle, “anything for you.”

sipping your hot latte, you’re waiting for your boyfriend, ricky, to come in the neighbourhood cafe for a quick coffee before your actual date, a fun couples art session.

you were sketching in your book, planning out what possible artworks you guys could make together. 15 minutes has past of when you guys had agreed on meeting and he still hadn’t come yet. did he change his mind or something? you couldn’t understand why he was late

feeling sad, you plug in your earphones, put your head down and doodle to distract yourself. you were on the verge of tears when you feel a tap on your shoulder.

“surprise!” you turn around and see ricky with a messy bouquet of flowers. he sees your glossy eyes and bends down so your eye to eye.

you take a tissue and dab under your eyes, “where were you?! its been 20 minutes since you said you’d come” you lightly shove his shoulder and pout.

“im sorry babe i saw all the flowers out while walking here and i thought you’d like them… sorry i kinda got carried away with picking pretty ones for you,” he awkwardly laughs and hands you the bouquet wrapped in todays newspaper.

you couldn’t help but smile, ricky has always been so sweet to you, and you know you could not stay mad at him. you’re heart swelled as you took the bouquet, seeing familiar flowers. he put his hand on the table.

“babe i forgive you, but these are our neighbours’ flowers they’re gonna be so upset” you smile, no more tears threatening to leak. he shyly laughs. you knew he already did it and there was no point on drilling it in on him.

you set down the bouquet in your lap and held his hand on the table. “nevermind that actually, thank you ricky, i really appreciate it,” you ran his fingers through the back of his hair and played with the ends. “you did well”

rickys ears turned red, looking away slightly smiling. “hm? what are you thinking?” you ask,

he looks at you, “i really like this, i should come late more often” ricky leans his head back slightly in satisfaction.

“ugh whatever,” you pull away, he smiles seeing you blush. “well? we have an art session waiting for us, i’ll get a coffee and we’ll go?” you nod happily.

he walks up to the counter and you look back at the bouquet. growing even more appreciation for him.

i've returned to talk about daredevil AHA, i swear to fucking god i WILL SUE I WILL SUE FUCKING KEVIN FIEGE I WILL SUE THE WRITERS omg i just needed foggy and Karen back AND THIS IS WHAT I GET OMG IM NOT BELIEVING IT FOR A SECOND BRUH

Hi friend!! I’ve missed you.

Okay so. I am holding onto hope that:

1- The first half of the season (if that rumor of the first part being episode 1-9 are true) will be when the blip happened and during the blip, which would give the excuse and reason for Foggy and Karen NOT being there. It’s now seeming like Matt never got snapped away- which I would LOVE to see how they do that with his senses cuz that shit would be so so tragic in Matt’s pov having no idea what’s happening and nothing he can do to do stop it- so Matt doesn’t get snapped, but Karen and Foggy do- so their firm….is also gone. It would be too painful for Matt to continue that business without them.

Due to these reasons and pain and guilt and PAIN and Matt, because he’s Matt, will somehow blame himself for not helping in a battle he had no idea was happening and stopping it. He may go into a depression again, maybe this is where and when he meets Kirsten or something. But during the 5 years of the blip, he decides to work for/with another firm, or start a new one again.

2- Again if the rumor is true and the second part of the season is episodes 10-18, maybe that’s when End Game happens and everyone comes back. (I don’t think Born Again was even close to finising that first half of filming before the WGA Strike so reaaalllyyy, maybe there’s wiggle room here once selfish studios pay writers and actors what they deserve and more and filing starts again whenever that will be)

But my theory and some other fans theories, that the second part will be AFTER the Blip, and they can do a little time jump if they want or flashbacks or something idk. Let’s not forget in She-Hulk Matt actually looked and seemed happy, in a good place, at times lighthearted and having fun and THE SAME WITTY CHARMING ASS (i say fondly) HE IS (that didn’t change) with Jen and he even says “we” talking about his firm and Matt has always kinda been against bigger/giant law firms because most of the lawyers that work at those places tend to be more corrupt and not have the clients best interests at heart. Maybe if he joined a bigger firm during the blip there would be some conflict there.

And after, this would be A great reason and opportunity to bring back Foggy and Karen and could potentially start up their business again, or at least get Foggy to join the firm, OR they have a little branch under the bigger firm. The point is, they could use the second part of the season to bring back Nelson and Page.

And Matt’s words to Jen sounds more like he has Foggy back in his life and he’s still in a pretty good place. You don’t think Foggy would get an absolute kick out of Matt having a one night stand with She-Hulk!? He’s be so proud and cracking joke’s because “she literally spanked your ass twice” 😂 (Kevin if you’re reading this…)

3- After seeing Charlie Cox at two cons and meeting him twice, I firmly and 100% believe he has somewhat of a voice in some decisions for Born Again. The studio KNOWS this show or “reboot” or continuation wouldn’t be possible or the same without Charlie. Kevin knew that. And the reaction Charlie/Matt got in NHW PROVED how much the entire fandom loves him as Daredevil. So, I feel like his input and opinions are valued. Which makes me hopefully guess/theorize that Charlie has at least spoken to someone about bringing back Elden and Deborah. And I know Vincent really loved Deborah as Karen too, and I feel like he would also have a say because you just can’t change him as Fisk either. Same with Jon as the Punisher.

So again, I am holding out for being hopeful and not truly believing anything until it’s in the actual episodes I watch. It’s marvel, we have to remember that, they lie and gaslight fans all the time and try to convince the fans what’s not true and what is. So a twitter account from “sources” is a little harder to believe.

I have nothing against Deborah Ann-Woll or her as Karen because I actually loved Karen. But 99% of the heart in Daredevil was Foggy and his relationship with Matt. To not have AT LEAST Foggy be in the show at some point is utterly ridiculous. Matt’s not suddenly going to have a new best friend who truly gets and understands every single side of him and knows his past and martyr tendencies like Foggy. Matt isn’t just gonna straight up trust others and tell them he’s also Daredevil (Jen literally just ripped his mask off but he had no intention of telling her know)

And honestly, just as no one else but Charlie Cox could play and be Matt/Daredevil, no one else but Elden Henson can be and play Foggy. I just don’t think that amazing heart of Foggy’s can be the same without Elden.

just found your tumblr account and thought id give you the comments i never left on your fics. my top three are: I. “swallow my breath and take whats mine” nothing to say about this one except i live for feral sam, the fear for dean’s death and acceptance of letting himself be cannibalized just because he doesn’t want to lose him and at the end the contempt for john, for how far he’s willing to go just to train dean (his inability to understand that it is NOT normal has a whole other special flavor). it was short, lovely and heartbreaking with a je ne sais quoi in sam’s feelings towards dean. 10/10. II. “and its you that i want” this was more lighthearted, not accounting for the breakup between dean and girl X, the best part was sam needing to be used, his desire to be just a vessel for deans pleasure. also i love EVERYTHING that depicts sam’s discomfort with his size with his need to be smaller. overall the smut is so sexy and intimate and also i love the fact that theyre obsessed with each other even in another universe. i love every smith/wesson fic because i love to imagine their reactions when confronted with what they would do with each other when not being stuck with whatever inhibition theyre battling with. 12/10 just because it has smut. “souls tied intertwined by our pride and guilt” NO. WORDS. it is my most read fic on ao3 in the whole seven years ive used the platform and it was published less than a year ago. i love everything. every word, every emotion. the fic starts with the voyeur moment, dean’s guilt at the idea that it was sam’s worst terror and sam’s fear that he may have revealed too much and everything its now out in the open. “the dark side of the moon” is already a seriously angsty episode by itself, but your spin on it with their guilt, their shame and the continuous misunderstandings is lovely.

dean’s overthinking about when did he become so overwhelming to sam that he was TERRIFIED of his big brother, when did he become something that sam needed to escape from leaving for college? sams line that said he “always lived with it” had dean spiraling with guilt and shame and fear so much that he left and “threw” away the amulet. sam on the other hand is full of shame for his biggest desire is out there, the crippling need to have his brother, so debilitating that he had to escape, not from deans leering as he may think, but from his fucked up needs, his perversion of their relationship, of him feeling like he twisted up something genuine and good so much that his brother is now disgusted with him (i love when one of the two seems “disgusted” leaving the other feeling dirty and a pervert) overall i never found a fic that fit all of my reading needs as well as this one. you took a basic misunderstanding trope and spun it in a whirlwind of suffering, dejections, inhibitions and the best part GUILT AND SHAME.

i have no more words 100/10 i live for it. keep up with your writing because i live for it and eat up every single work you produce.

okay, small guilty pleasure moment, i LOVE misunderstanding tropes. admittedly in big, long pieces of fiction (fan or otherwise) in the 40k+ category, i can get tired of it, but misunderstandings are such a great way to understand and explore the interpersonal and INTRApersonal strengths/weaknesses/flaws of characters and their understanding of the world they are in. i was afraid everyone was going to hate this fic on sight bc it's written for me (and charlotte) specifically (and i've found from some very vocal and angry people that they hate misunderstandings (not on this blog, thank goodness, everyone has been lovely!)), but i am SO INCREDIBLY HONOURED AND GRATEFUL AND GLAD that you like it!!!!! i don't even have words for how much all of the comments, but this one especially, meant!!! all of your comments breaking it down made me smile wider and wider!

Just watched Natla episode 1! It wasn't the worst. I liked some parts, and was like hmmmm with many others lol. My Mum's kinda traumatised from Sozin RIP. But I have Thoughts!

Note: this is not structured At All lmao. I rapidly jump topics, and then sometimes return later. Also, this is completely my opinion after watching it once, so if you feel differently, that's completely fine! Honestly just wrote this down for myself to structure my thoughts on it, but I'm posting 'cause why not, y'know?

ANYWAY! Onto a rambled compilation of my immediate reactions:

A Lot of exposition. Which. Fair I guess? But they added info that wasn’t needed in that episode specifically. Like Zuko being banished. We didn’t know that until Zhao says it as a taunt in ep3 but here Zuko just outright says it to Iroh? He wouldn’t do that. He’s more ‘no my father loves me, he’s just trying to teach me’. He’s in denial. He wouldn’t just say his greatest shame and fear out loud in a situation that’s not even that high stakes.

Sokka was funny! A lot more than I thought he’d be. I really liked him, though I think he’d need to show his softer, more lighthearted side later and not just stick to deadpan sarcasm and stuff. It works for this episode, because a lot of his humour in the first few episodes are from him being too uptight and stressed.

Katara was very watered down, too passive. First, she’s going in the ship that was forbidden in the original. Then she splits the iceberg by accident, but not from anger. Bending isn’t from intense emotions anymore apparently. And sure she might get mad in later episodes like the waterbending scroll, but the first episode is vital to setting up your characters. It might feel like it comes out of nowhere if we don’t see her being a stressed underappreciated frustrated kid early on.

Aang doesn’t run away, he just goes out to clear his head. This is bad. It takes away his main flaw/regret in the show - he rejected being the Avatar and his people paid for it. Running away and avoiding things is a Big thing of his character. If it wasn’t, then earthbending wouldn’t be such a difficult thing for him to learn, and he wouldn’t feel so much responsibility for abandoning the world. Also it makes Sokka’s line later really unnecessarily mean? Like, if he had run away then, yeah, that line would hit hard. But he didn’t. So calling Aang a coward is just like, whoa bro. That was totally uncalled for.

Sozin wasn’t as imposing. He was too… short and average? None of the shots really hype him up. No imposing shadows on his face, or camera looking up at him, or framing so that he’s in the centre. And he should’ve been behind the fire, not walking around. Where’s the status in that?

Don’t like Gyatso’s death. Why did they hide there? Meaningless. Should’ve been covering the kid’s escape, or at least managed to take out the room of them until Sozin stepped in.

The bending didn’t have a lot of oomph. In the cartoon that’s fine, but for a live action show? Multiple fire blasts to the back and still not dead? Wow. And the airbending! They make it look like it’s the weakest element, as if it just knocks people down but they get back up. Why is no one staying down? Where are the fall damage physics?? People die from slipping in the shower and hitting their heads! Getting blasted backwards and slamming your head into the ground from a wall of air hitting your chest is gonna hurt a lot more than that!

I didn’t like Iroh? He’s way too confronting. Iroh in the cartoon mainly goes along with Zuko in s1, it’s not until s2 that he starts going ‘hey Zuko, maybe your father and the fire nation aren’t something you should be supporting.’ In s1 he’s mostly trying to get Zuko to relax and being gently supportive.

The fishing scene was good! I liked the dialogue. Katara being bitterly resigned that she’s not a good waterbender, feeling like it’s her responsibility to preserve that part of their culture. And Sokka isn’t just disparaging of her skills but scared of them, protective, worried that what happened to their mum will happen to her if people find out.

Ah. Gran Gran is a master exposition-bender I see.

The bending is weird! Not many forms, it’s more concentration. Where’s the martial arts? In the firebending there’s too many unnecessary flourishes, and in the waterbending there’s not enough. Take away the cgi and it looks weird.

The set design was amazing! Glad the trailers didn’t lie. Though the Southern Water Tribe was bigger than I thought I’d be. Isn’t it supposed to be barely standing, ravaged by all their people being slowly taken from them, and then the last of the men leaving in a last ditch effort to help end the war?

A lot of tell don’t show. Didn’t show Aang being a kid with friends, just said he had friends. Which takes away from his line about not wanting the power and responsibility and loneliness; we haven’t seen the kids subtly ostracise him because he’s the Avatar.

Really like the Avatar State effects.

3 episodes smushed into 1. 20 min x 3 into 60 min. So they had the same amount of time, but they added all the Sozin’s Comet stuff, so it was all more rushed.

Zuko’s hair style is better in live action than I thought it’d be.

Sokka’s not sexist, but that takes away from him trying so hard to be a Man and a Warrior, and failing. Also he’s actually a really good leader here? Which is supposed to be another thing he has to grow into. When you remove flaws, you remove the character development.

It takes away from Zhao’s assholeishness if he’s not the one to throw in Zuko’s face about his banishment, and the fact that Zuko’s return is contingent on him capturing the Avatar. He’s gonna be a lot less awful if he doesn’t get to smugly shit on Zuko. And without the comparison of him being So Much Worse, why would we root for Zuko?

WAIT! Someone’s missing from the episode. Someone very important… Where’s Momo?

No boomerang!! Sokka throwing the boomerang isn’t just haha funny, it’s showing how he’s creative, thinks and uses things that are out of the box, and above all, that he never gives up. He’s on his back, beaten down again and again, and still he always keeps going and throws something new at the enemy, and Zuko underestimates him, thinks he’s stupid but then the boomerang comes back and that’s a Win for Sokka! But no. Just have him beaten and that’s it? Ok.

Zuko’s less of an asshole? He doesn’t yell as much - honestly Iroh seems more like the one out of line - and he doesn’t ram into the village. He asks for the Avatar politely, and they actually do have the Avatar in this, unlike in the cartoon where they had no idea wtf he was talking about and he was just threatening grandmas lol.

Sokka’s really fucking brave. But he doesn’t throw the boomerang-

Very static explaining scenes. Flat. When Gyatso tells him he’s the Avatar and when Gran Gran says it’s been 100 years. Also they’re really insensitive, jeez. And neither the audience or Aang is given any time to breathe. It’s always one new piece of info after another. There’s so much exposition blatantly for the audience that it doesn’t feel emotional or personal anymore.

Gyatso doesn’t defend Aang! He goes along with the elders. He doesn’t try to flee with Aang. I don’t like this!

Katara not being the one to calm Aang down is bad. If Aang can snap out of it himself, control the Avatar State himself - the thing he only managed to do right at the last moment in the last episode - then most of the stakes are gone. It’s not a force of nature that overtakes him. And this means it doesn’t set the precedent that Katara is the only one who can comfort him when he’s hurting like that. Plus, Katara telling Aang that she understands how he feels, and promising that she and Sokka were Aang’s family now, was a big bonding moment for the Gaang, which we don’t have in this.

Why can Aang fly without his glider???

The costumes look less like costumes and more like clothes than I’d feared, but they’re still too colourful and new looking, not worn enough.

Bro I can’t believe they just left Appa lol. Also, Aang already has the bison whistle? Huh. And what was Appa doing when Aang was being captured?? Why didn’t he come in and Fight them like he did the shirshu, huh?

I get why they cut the scenes of Aang and Katara going penguin sledding, and then setting off the flare; they didn’t have enough time. But it does take away from showing how Aang really is just a kid trying to have fun, and Katara’s line about Aang bringing hope doesn’t make as much sense, because as far as I could see he didn’t really? He didn’t change much in the village, the kids were having fun fine enough without him.

Lmfao, how did Zuko know that Aang had escaped? I feel like there was a scene in there that they had to cut for time or something, where he goes into his room and finds his book gone, realises what happened and then runs out onto the deck. But instead it’s just like. Wow, you spotted him! That was some really convenient timing there Zuko!

Telling it more chronologically, instead of revealing Aang’s backstory through the flashback Storm episode, is an interesting choice, and switches the pov a lot. In the cartoon, you’re in Katara’s shoes from the start; she says the intro, and then she and her brother find this mysterious boy. In this show, it’s now more from Aang’s pov, which should make you feel like you’re thrust into this strange new future with him, except that they half ass it; the viewer is given more info than he is while he’s unconscious, so we no longer feel like we’re in his shoes, and he’s never even given time to be confused or oblivious - he’s almost immediately told.

Huh. If they’re getting rid of the sexism, then what’s Pakku’s deal gonna be? Or are they just removing that plot point? Also are they removing Yue’s arranged marriage?

I’m glad they only showed flashes of the Southern Raiders. Was worried for a sec they’d just spill the whole backstory right then and there.

Making there be other teenages in the Southern Tribe aside from just Sokka and Katara is more realistic, but it also makes it seem less dire? Sokka trying to get literal five year olds to man watchtowers and fight the fire nation shows just how desperate they are. These are the ‘men’ he is left with to defend his home. They’re just kids. And so is he, but he’s the oldest, and that puts so much pressure on him. Except now, he’s just barely the oldest, and the village seems like it’d be fine without him.

Also, I might’ve missed it, but the guy Sokka leaves in charge? Yeah I can’t remember hearing them ever say his name. He’s just- random watertribe teen #2 lmao

Where is Sozin’s dragon?

Small nitpick, but I don’t like the air nomad elders/council’s room. It’s so dark and enclosed, whereas in the cartoon, it’s very light and open, large with a high arching ceiling.

They also don’t introduce the special doors, which should come back in Roku’s Temple and the Northern Air Temple. Maybe they’ll do it next episode?

In the cartoon, it’s a small detail, but when Aang enters the Avatar State, he blows away everything except Gyatso’s skeleton, like he’s subconsciously protecting it even from himself. I’m… not sure that happens in this one.

Sozin just lighting that guy on fire was brutal.

Another big part of Aang’s character that goes hand in hand with my problem of him not running away, is that Aang likes staying upbeat and positive. When he goes to the Southern Air Temple in the cartoon, he doesn’t want to face that all his people may be gone, which is why Gyatso hits so hard. It’s not just that it’s Gyatso, it’s that he finally having to face the genocide of his people. He can’t ignore it, it’s being shoved in his face in the worst way possible. But he doesn’t do that here, he knows, so it almost hits less hard.

I’m sorry he- he has telekinesis? He steals the keys with telekinesis? Yeah sure, call it airbending, but that looks a whole lot like telekinesis to me! Martial arts. Bending is a martial art. You can’t just gesture your fingers and get that kind of delicate manipulation!! That’s not how the Force works-

Yeah, so it was a fun watch, and I'm interested in what the next ones will do! In my opinion, it's not as trash as the movie-that-doesn't-exist-in-Ba-Sing-Se, but it isn't as good as the original. oh god oh fuck. this is such an important scene. wwx remembering the wens, his life here with them. wen qing, and her last words to him. so much of his second life is about grappling with the pain of what happened and moving on, and since it focuses much more on the moving on than the grieving, these scenes are relatively rare and all the more significant for it. it's understated, but this is one of the most cathartic and valuable scenes in the show for wwx

of course as soon as I say that, wwx says the opposite. this isn't a sacred place. it doesn't need to be memorialized. it was the worst time of any of our lives. let it blow away and let us move on. letting the soil pour out between his fingers and leaving it here. fuck. this response is one of the ways he's developed to survive this kind of loss because he's experienced this before, but it's still gotta hurt. wwx all for ripping off the bandage and walking away. lowkey one of the best scenes of the entire series

back to lighthearted goofs. based on his behavior here I think it's clear he's joking

I really love the idea of lwj carrying wwx's hurts for him and feeling their gravity even if wwx himself can't. he isn't able to take on that pain for wwx, but he'll witness and respect it, and be present for it. especially if wwx needs to revisit it later and feel how much it hurt, he'll have someone who's made a space for that pain and who will stay with him through it. this little moment with this expression is a really good visual indicating that, imo

jin ling always seemed tetchier than usual to me here - wwx's reveal has rattled him. lzx also yells a bit in this scene, probably because being tied to someone else for like three days really sucks even if you weren't surrounded by complaining teenagers

I’ve been reflecting a lot since our lacklustre trial performance on Friday night and I found some really useful things that helped me sort through my thoughts.

The first was Megan Foster’s brand new podcast where she described her journey through agility training. She said that in 2015 she changed her entire training approach when she got a Parson Russell Terrier.

With all of my previous dogs I was basically training the way that everyone around me was training. It wasn’t force, we weren’t using prong collars or e-collars or anything like that, so it wasn’t want you might consider a traditional compulsion trainer. But it wasn’t the trainer I am today, it was something in between. It was positive reinforcement with a sprinkling of “or else” on top.

And that pretty much worked because the dogs that I had before getting Shrek were pretty cooperative; they enjoyed the work enough that my training didn’t have to be super precise, super clear. If my handling was pretty precise and pretty clear they were willing participants.

But when I got Shrek things changed. My situation was different. I was working a lot more than I was working when I had my other dogs before and he needed more precise training, more clear training. When I got him I made a huge shift in how I train and how I look at things.

The second was an episode of Susan Garrett’s podcast Shaped by Dog where she talked about coming full circle in her training with her dog Feature.

So, when I sent her to a kennel, she jumped up and bit me in the face. And I immediately grabbed her collar and gave her a swift little clip under her chin with my hand. And then she went in her kennel, and I called her back out and I tried to love her up, she wasn't the same dog... Now you could say, “Well Susan, she probably never bit you in the face again, did she?” She didn't. But there were so many things wrong with that situation. I was in a hurry, I took that puppy over threshold. How do you expect an eight-week-old puppy not to make mistakes? And why should you have your face down there?

Now it took me a while to learn the lesson of don't put your face down there because in 2015 when Feature had a litter of puppies and I was playing with one of them with my face down there, and that puppy jumped up and bit my face and drew blood my reaction was to laugh. And I knew I had come full circle as somebody who had made a conscious choice to leave the world that looks at dogs as needing to be punished behind. That I laughed and I have a picture holding the puppy because it was such a proud moment for me at the realisation is my innate response is no longer to say, “Why did you do that to me?!”

And the third was re-reading the Motivation Special Issue of Clean Run I have (one of my best purchases), specifically articles around “need for speed” dogs, training games and demotivating behaviour during training.

All of these things have made me realise that I, too, need to change the way I train. I already make sure not to punish or disparage my dog during agility training, but I don’t always hide my frustration or go into it with a lighthearted mindset. I absolutely could be doing so much more to make agility training fun and light and silly. It’s not serious, it doesn’t have to be serious. And even if I’m not punishing, I’m still demotivating and I don’t have to be.

I’m going to make a conscious effort to change the structure of my training sessions to incorporate more games and reinforcement. I’m going to try really hard to change my mindset to find everything funny instead of frustrating. I’m going to focus more on relationship wellness outside of training and ensure I am giving Marceline more attention for things she wants to do and not just what suits me.

It’s been a difficult and self-absorbed few months for me, but I’m going to consciously try to get outside myself and get back to focusing on Marceline and what brings her joy in training.

I wondered how you would write if Steven Universe had not been canceled and got a different ending, since being a former SU fan and got to the good side of the fandom lately and started to do my own little rewrite of the lore and ending + planning to do a hnk and SU crossover story too

I also think Volleyball needs more attention too as the lore for her is very interesting and missing ALOT, and tbh she + her and pearl’s fusion/relationship are the only reasons that I like after losing interest in the show and it’s downfall

Okay, I really don't think you're gonna be happy with my response because I actually like the ending to Steven Universe.

I'm dead serious. As a Steven Universe fan, you're probably already aware of this, but Rebecca Sugar basically made a deal with Cartoon Network where the only way she'd be able to include Ruby and Sapphire's wedding in the show (which was, to my knowledge, the first gay wedding in western children's animation) was if she wrapped up the series in six episodes afterward. Considering that restriction that was put on her by the studio, I think it's nothing short of a minor miracle that the ending turned out as well as it did. In my mind, the ending achieved its most important goal, which was to complete Steven's arc and resolve his doubts and fears about his own identity and how it relates to his mother.

However, I do agree that six episodes is really not enough time to cover everything the story wanted in satisfying way.

So, my fix is pretty simple. I would make the wedding the season five finale and then devote all of season 6 to Steven living on Homeworld.

How it would work in my mind is that the last episode of season 5 devotes more time to the actually wedding before it's interrupted by the diamonds. Hell, maybe there'd be a few episodes before that covering wedding planning, which is always a really stressful time and has the potential for good comedy and good stories. It would also function as a breather after the drama of "A Single Pale Rose" and its fallout.

The last episode of season 5 would be mostly lighthearted, but it would take a serious turn when it's interrupted by the Diamonds' invasion. The Diamonds' invasion would not be resolved within the episode. Instead, it would be the cliffhanger for season 6.

Season 6 opens with a two-parter devoted to the invasion. Steven and the Crystal Gems know that they don't have the resources or manpower to fight off a massive attack from Homeworld, but Steven has a plan: Get to the Diamonds and show them that he's got Pink Diamond's gem. Nobody likes this plan, and they think Steven is basically suicidal for wanting to deliver himself to the Diamonds on a silver platter, but it's the only one they've got.

So, the Crystal Gems split into two teams. One is devoted to getting Steven to the Diamonds' ship, the other is devoted to fight off the Homeworld forces on the ground.

At some point, however, the group fighting notices that the Homeworld forces are lighter than they should be, and they quickly realize why: The Diamonds' main goal is actually to awaken the Cluster. The soldiers on the ground are just a distraction.

So no, there's a ticking time clock for Steven to get to the Diamonds before the process is complete and the Cluster wakes up.

I'm also imagining a scene where Steven thinks he's too late and the Cluster starts to emerge, only for the result to be the same as it is in canon: The Cluster actually joins the fight with the Crystal Gems and reenters dormancy once the Homeworld forces are given off.

Afterward, Steven would reach the Diamonds and show them who he is.

The Diamond's reaction would be the same as it is in canon. They think Steven is Pink Diamond and decide to take him back to Homeworld. But now, we have a whole season before the end of the show. That means more time to develop Steven's relationship with the Diamonds, more time to get to know Homeworld, and more time to explore the Crystal Gems' reactions to being back on the planet they rebelled against so long ago, not to mention the culture shock of seeing how it's changed over the thousands of years since they last saw it, and more time to flesh out the Diamonds' redemption arc. In the show, it really seems like the Diamonds mostly changed their ways because Steven told them to, which is kind of funny but not completely satisfying. I'd like more time to see the Diamonds really realize the weight of their actions, and I'd like the show to be able to fully explore how Blue and Yellow Diamonds' insecurities and their position skewed their perception and crippled their empathy.

One other thing, I'd also like to see Lapis and Bismuth realize that Bismuth was the one who poofed Lapis during the war, which ultimately led to her getting trapped in the mirror. They seemed like they were building toward that reveal in the show, but they never got around to it, probably because of the time constraint put on them by Cartoon Network. Perhaps Lapis sees Bismuth fighting during the Diamonds' invasion and gets a war flashback that makes her realize Bismuth was the one who attacked. Bismuth, in general, has a lot of potential in this hypothetical season 6. Her redemption also felt like it was rushed, and seeing her struggle to make up for what she did to Lapis in the past while the Diamonds struggle with their newfound empathy would be pretty narratively rich.

So, yeah, that's what I'd do. Honestly, I don't think that whatever I could come up with would be as good as whatever Rebecca Sugar's plan was before her vision got truncated to six episodes, but the reality of being a television writer is that you often have to work within studio restrictions. In this case, the restrictions were placed for a completely bullshit reason, but under the circumstances, I think Rebecca and the rest of the team did the best they could.

Increasingly Improbable Predictions on Time Travel

Let me preface this by saying that I am not the person to go to for OPM meta discussion. There are plenty of people on Tumblr that are far more talented in that regard. My strengths are fanfic and shitposts, and I’m way out of my wheelhouse here. I considered not posting this at all. But I have a lot of thoughts about Chapter 166, and I need to get this into writing, even if no one reads it and it’s only to keep me from going crazy. Manga spoilers below the cut, obviously. Also some Mob Psycho 100 spoilers that I tried to keep sort of vague? Ready? Let’s get stupid!

I have a prediction brewing and I don't know how I feel about it. I'm not alone in thinking that the latest chapter was much darker than usual, nor in finding the chapter 164 redraw jarring. I'm sure I'm not the first person to have this thought either: What if there are multiple timelines and we're being shown the darkest one? We've seen ONE do something similar with the Mogami arc in MP100, so we know he's good at making both his fans and his characters go through Some Shit, even if the events are an illusion or aren't permanent. (Also see: Mob going ??? in “Even Then ~Continue Forward~”, an otherwise lighthearted episode that ends with a cliffhanger so brutal that the first time I watched it, I gasped out loud, explained to my concerned spouse that my reaction was because I couldn’t believe the writer would actually go there, and had to stop watching for the night. Obviously, everything turned out to be a trick, but this moment stuck with me.)

ONE is a great story teller. He doesn’t need to kill anyone to make his audience feel pain, nor to leave his main characters with lasting trauma.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to my stupid time travel theory, which I’m sure is also not very original.

Now surely (and this is the point you may roll your eyes, but stay with me, I promise I'm going somewhere with it) Blast or one of his crew has the ability to send someone back in time. Like seriously, the guy fights with portals and tried to send Garou to another dimension. Let’s say Blast & Co. can send exactly one person back in time. But maybe time travel takes an extreme toll on the person’s body to the point that normal people can’t survive the jump. Hm...do we know anyone who can withstand any amount of physical stress without getting hurt? Oh, I know! How about we send the guy who uses a magma pool as a hot tub!

Scenario #1 (the “immediate fix”): The Blast Crew can only send Saitama back in time by a few minutes. But it’s enough. Enough to stop Celestial Garou’s radioactive attack. Enough to save his disciple. This time, he doesn’t arrive too late. He arrives just in time, like a true hero should.

Scenario #2 (the least bullshit one): Saitama gets sent back just far enough to stop Garou from getting possessed by God (no ID), and instead of continuing their Fistfight to End the World, Saitama (who is the only one who remembers the Worst Timeline and is just so tired) asks Garou if he's done yet, offers to lend an ear…and the chapter ends with a panel of dragon!Garou sheepishly sitting seiza at a low table with Saitama in an abandoned house floating in the sea. It’s odd to me that the Murata would spend so much time on the original, very different version of Chapter 164, only for it to be scrapped three days later. Maybe this scene does happen…just in a different order than expected. In this scenario, nothing is wasted.

Scenario #3 (improbable, confusing, and meta af, but indulge me please): Saitama gets sent back to some point earlier that day. LET’S GET META for a hot second. I remember reading a discussion by @gofancyninjaworld a long time ago (sorry dude, I tried to find it on your blog but no luck) about how the manga is ultimately written for the people who read it in its final, published volume form. But here's an awful, fun thought: What if the redraws are ONE/Murata throwing an extremely meta bonus to the readers who read each update as it comes out? If there's time travel fuckery involved, it explains at least one of the redraws…or all of them if Saitama were to get sent back further than meeting Awakened Garou on the shoreline. I'm imagining something like the scrapped chapters actually being an alternate timeline where Phoenix Man doesn't become chickified, Do-S and Narinki's mercenaries are killed by Sweet Mask, Orochi is killed by a punch instead of a bathtime mishap, etc. Time travel could also create some fun deja vu moments, like Atomic Samurai telling Iaian "I swear I've told you about this before" about the Sun Blade. Maybe he really did!

Scenario #4 (for lulz only, everyone would rage quit the series if it happened): Saitama travels back in time to the meeting that Sitch calls with the S-class to warn them about Shibabawa’s prophecy. Saitama informs him that the prophecy is about Bang’s student going off the rails. The entire Monster Association arc is canceled. Saitama beats up everyone in the subterranean and takes their gold. Garou gets therapy and a job at Fedex.

Pros of time travel being used as a plot device:

Saitama saving the world and no one knowing about it would be very on point for the series.

Saitama retaining his memories ties in with my earlier point: ONE doesn’t need to kill anyone off permanently to leave his main character with lasting trauma. Even if Genos survives this, I guarantee Saitama will be having nightmares about holding his core in his hand for years to come.

Many fans found Saitama’s comment that he’d “rather destroy the world” out of character for him. The comment makes a lot more sense if he’s already seen the people he cares for…you know.

It makes no damn sense to set up future sub-plots (Garou becoming a hero, a fetch quest for a magic sword, etc.) if everyone is just going to die of radiation poisoning anyway. It’s wasted potential, and as much as I’m hurting, I have faith in ONE/Murata to not do that.

Cons of time travel being used as a plot device:

Let's face it. Time travel as a fix-it is kind of a cop out. The only time I've seen it done well is in Steins;gate. (Which is a brilliant show if you haven't seen it.)

The further back in time we go, the less character development everyone gets. The S-class never learns to work together. Fubuki never discovers her healing powers, or stands up to her sister. Waganma never stops being a brat. Sweet Mask never gets to beat a pep talk into Darkshine, and Zombieman never gets to admit that Sweet Mask isn’t as bad as he seems. The Bad Boys don’t get their team-up. Garou doesn’t get to (try to) tell God to fuck off.

We’ve already seen characters we thought were goners come back through the power of magic (looking at you, Tanktop Master), and if it happens too much, it's going to be difficult to truly experience suspense properly again. The stakes just won’t be there. Every time a character dies, it’ll be a case of the boy who cried wolf. (Or rather the boy who cried, "Can't we just have Fubuki/Blast fix it?")

So I’m conflicted. Would a time travel fix-it make you rage quit the series? Would it cheapen the trauma that everyone has been through, or could it be done well? Or can you not see this happening at all? I guess we’ll find out in two weeks.

Strange New Worlds S1E02 Reaction

This one was perfect in every convincible way.

I’m in LOVE with uhura. Celia Rose Gooding is so so so so amazing and I can’t wait to see her play uhura 1000 times more. 

She put her foot in her mouth so often?? She’s so different from who she is in TOS but you can see the messy edges she’s made up of and the awesome person she’s going to turn into from her performance now. She’s brilliant and beautiful even when she’s being cringy. I can 100% see the woman who is suave and confident enough to be able to talk her way out of any situation and fluster even Spock (although I feel like she’s able to do that now too, albeit in a less smooth way). 

I loved how this episode started off with Pike being surrounded by all his friends and having a good time. It contrasted nicely with the last episode where he was basically alone other than the one night stand. The whole scene felt very domestic and it was nice to take a breather and see the crew interacting with each other. I feel like the writers really listened to the fans’ issues with discovery, because pacing for both the past episodes has been very well done, with enough time to get a decent amount of character development. 

Hemmer seems like a fun character! I’m excited to see more of him. He reminds me of Mccoy. 

I felt SO bad when Pike fumbled asking the “what are you going to be doing in ten years” question, cause the scene before had been so lighthearted and happy and then there was just a jarring reminder of his impending fate. I’m surprised by how well the writers have been handling that as well, because it seems pretty difficult to write a character like that and balance the lighthearted moments with the doom and gloom and do it well. 

Although we only got a few moments of Chapel in this episode, I loved every second of her on screen. I did not expect to like her this much but she’s quickly turning into one of my favorite characters. However, I do think Uhura bringing up her flirting was kinda random and didn't really make sense in that context. 

Sam Kirk was. An interesting choice. I did not understand the point of him this episode, although it was very funny when he touched the random alien artifact. 

I‘m going to go off on a tangent here for a bit. I LOVE this show and the characters but sometimes it feels so painful to reconcile their current selves (happy, smiling) with how we know they’re going to end up (dead or worse). That’s one of the perils of watching a prequel, and I'm trying to enjoy them as they are, but sometimes it’s difficult. I guess that’s what makes the happy moments all the more precious, because we know they’re limited. 

The main plot was great, we’ve done the “music notes open alien artifact” before in TOS but it was definitely much better executed here. 

Also I already made a separate post about this but I ADORE when Star Trek does the “Science and Faith can and do coexist” thing so much. It’s something that I spent a long time struggling with when I was younger, and as I grow as a scientist/engineer, it’s something that I appreciate all the more. They handled it very respectfully. The tie-in with Pike’s own struggles in reconciling predestination and his own choices was well done, and I’m excited to see his character arc with this struggle. Pike knowing the names of all the kids he saves and the PICTURES of the babies at the very end was gut-wrenching.

I wanna see more Una!! In this episode, I think she was only shown in the context of consoling Pike or during reaction shots. I’m being greedy (I wanna see EVERYONE in every episode) but I am a bit surprised at how under-utilized she's been considering she’s one of the main three. 

Spock was great in this episode, as expected (Ethan Peck my beloved) except for his sideburns. What the fuck was up with those. 

Overall, this was amazing, it exceeded my expectations and then some. I enjoyed it a lot more than the first, and I had liked the first one a lot!!

For a few years proceeding, and especially when the pandemic began, I've been on the fence of either resurrecting my old podcast, or becoming a YouTuber.

I didn't know which one I wanted to do, or to do both, or what kind of equipment I would need. Or what kind of content I would make.

I already have a channel and right now it's just my cringey Effie videos from 2017 and one of me dancing drunk with a box on my head. (I was Silvia Plath for Halloween that year, 2008 I think, and the box was supposed to be an oven, lol. My youngest sister took the video with her phone).

In December of 2021 I pulled all of my old Nutmeg's Mix episodes from BlogTalkRadio and TalkShoe and had my BlogTalkRadio account deleted. I still have TalkShoe but there's nothing posted to my account. I may edit and repost some of the really good episodes I did, like the Sailor Moon one, the mental health one, the writing one, etc. There truthfully was only a very few that were worthwhile, content-wise.

For 2023 I think I'm going to give YouTube a try.

I'm going to wait until after the holidays, perhaps mid-January even, after all the "Philly Loves Bowie Week" events (because I think I want to attend some of those too).

While making money from a hobby would be nice, I'm not going to worry about getting monetized or fancy equipment. I'm going to work with what I already have. If it is something I find myself enjoying, perhaps I'll upgrade mics and cameras and whatever.

As far as content goes, it's going to be a mixed bag, similar to what the "Nutmeg's Mix" internet radio show was, only it'll be in video format, no copyrighted music, and I'm going to start out with short videos, and not just me rambling for 2 hours. It'll be more of a vlog format, with lighthearted things like, here's me at a thrift store, here's me at the park, here's me trying on clothes from my closet I haven't worn in a while, here's me making a painting or a jacket, or a cosplay, here's me with my kewpies, here's me at the gym, whatever. Maybe I'll vlog from events and the beach or something once I get comfortable, if I decide to even continue with it. I may love doing it or hate it, we'll see.

I plan on staying away from reaction videos and talking about politics or religion. These things are already overdone as it is and I don't want that "us vs them" mentality. Most aspects of life are nuanced and not all black and white and simple. Humans are complicated creatures. I just want this to be a little break from the complications of life. Not toxic positivity, but not focusing on the negative either.

I may talk about things like mental health and physical health down the line, maybe have guests for those things, as well as for the silly stuff too, it all depends on how far I want to go or if I even wind up liking this.

But to start out I'm going to keep things lighthearted. I want to have a comfort channel I guess. Drama-free, enjoying the things in life that I love and just sharing that with others.

Unprompted asks | Always Accepting!

It was the third day of the weekday that Kotetsu was on his long trip to figure himself out. An advice given to him by his brother and friends; Japan was a good destination, the mid aged man figured. He’s never been to his ancestor’s country before, only heard about it and learned the language from his own mother. There had been some fun reactions to that fact, when people would ask the raven which prefecture he came from. Disbelief that he wasn’t a local, and was born overseas; guess he has his family and Oriental Town to thank for that and for instilling their habits that wasn’t commonly expressed in Sternbild. Thanks to his cheerful and friendly disposition, some locals had taken to Kotetsu and suggested a bar by the name Crossroads. This worked out perfectly for him, as the old man felt that he could use a drink. He had things to think about, and perhaps being at this place would give him a good space to muse his next step.

Upon stepping into the establishment, he was greeted by a room dimly lite by red lights and a big flashy neon heart with the flashing words [WELCOME]. This wasn’t the kind of place he’d usually find himself in, but Kotetsu wasn’t about to turn his nose up at a local’s recommendation. After taking in his new surrounding, his eyes traveled over to two sets of figures standing behind the bar. An eyebrow shot up at the seemingly high school student before dismissing it. Appearances can be deceiving, Kotetsu reminded himself before looking to who he assumes to be the proprietor of the bar. A woman with short purple hair, dark eye shadows (the lighting was too low to figure out the color), red lips, and garbed in an equally dark kimono and the one thing that stood out was the golden detailing. This person gave the man a flashy reminder of Nathan which easily brought a smile out of him before he sat down at the counter.

With lighthearted banter, greetings and names were exchanged and Kotetsu was given his chosen drink for the night, shochu. He rested an elbow on the countertop, and his chin nestled on the palm of his hand. Another customer had come into the building, carrying a magazine with a strikingly familiar face on it. His golden amber eyes immediately follow the annoyingly, yet, endearing smirk; surprised to see it in Japan and in the bar he visited no less. Well, Barnaby was making some real head turning progress on his late parents work so perhaps it’s no surprise that the young British man was a bit known worldwide. Especially in a country, which Kotetsu assumes to be, more technologically advanced. Once the cover was no longer in his sight, the raven turned his body back forward. It was good to see that the blond was doing okay. The thought of checking up on Barnaby and Kaede crossed his mind, but it would be too early to contact either one of them.

In a moment to himself, he heard the young man speak to him. He assumes it was about the man on the cover, especially since Kotetsu showed obvious interest in it just a second ago. Nostrils flared at the thought, “I’ve seen that show,” he said. It was a spur of the moment sort of thing, when he was surfing through channels and settled on some kid’s cartoon. It dragged out a few good laughs from him, “Hate to break it to you, but the guy ‘s only got five extra pairs and one of the frames got bent.” He smiled at the memory while waving the idea off. “Pretty sure he could afford five or twenty more, though.” After all, Barnaby didn’t seem like he had trouble with money.

How they react when you cry at a TV show/ Movie

For: Frankie Morales, Din Djarin, Marcus Moreno, Pero Tovar, Marcus Pike, Agent Whiskey, Dave York and Oberyn Martell

x Gn Reader (Pero x afab reader)

Summary: how the Pedro boys would react when you get upset watching your favourite TV show or movie (this may or may not be inspired after I watched the Flight episode of Greys)

Warnings: reader upset over their favourite character death/ one mention or pregnancy with Pero

Frankie

You had finally convinced Frankie to watch your favourite show with you, starting from the beginning again. You had only made it a few seasons in before starting again with Frankie so when one of your favourite characters died it was your first time watching this part. He was so engrossed in what was going on that he didn’t realise you had been crying until you were gasping for air and shaking next to him. At first he panicked thinking something had happened to you.

“Whats wrong, baby?” he turned to face you.

When you couldn’t talk through the tears but waved towards the TV he realised you were crying at the show and so he pulled you into his side, cradling your head and shoulders as he gently rocked and hushed you. He did have to bite back a smile, knowing he would definitely tease you later about this.

“It’s okay, let it out.”

When you tried to say you were sorry through the tears, that you were being silly and it was just a show he told you that you weren’t being silly at all and asked if you wanted to put on an episode of something funnier before bed. He gently held you against his side until the sniffling stopped, then he started to tickle your side to really make sure the tears stayed away.  

Din

The long journeys through hyperspace could be boring sometimes and so whenever you went into the bunk to relax you would put on an old show on your holo projector. Once Din had the ship settled in hyperspace, he climbed down the ladder to check on you and the kid. When the bunk door opened he saw the kid happily asleep in his hammock and then you curled up in the corner with a hand over your mouth trying to keep your tears in. He panicked thinking you had been hurt the last time you were off the ship and didn’t tell him but as soon as he seen you watching the show you had told him about he put his hand on his hip and beckoned you out the bunk. 

“I thought you were hurt,” he said, “come on, lets not wake the kid up.” 

He helped you up the ladder but as soon as you went to sit in your seat he gently gripped your arm to stop you, moving your bodies so he was on his seat and you were lying across his lap, curled into his chest. He let you mope around for a while, gently holding you against his chest, before distracting you as he spoke about the next planet you were going to.

Marcus M

You felt Missy was now old enough to watch one of your favourite shows with you and so started from the beginning for the third time to watch together. You knew one of the saddest episodes were coming but thought since this would be the third time watching it you would be fine. You were wrong. Missy was a little upset but no where near you so you managed to hold in the tears as you walked out her room and climbed into bed with Marcus. You let the tears flow and he chuckled quietly, putting down his book and taking off his glasses as he pulled you onto his chest. 

“Oh honey, still as sad as the first time?” he rubbed your back. 

“Sadder! How can it get sadder every time?” you cried, your tears now leaving a wet patch on his grey t-shirt, “I’m sorry.” 

“Don’t be sorry, it is a sad episode. Remember I cried when I watched it too!”

“Oh yeah, you cried like a baby,” you laughed.

The both of you stayed curled up like that as he put on a funnier TV show for you both to have on in the background as you laughed at his reaction when he first watched the show.

Pero

Pero had never been to see a play before; mercenaries do not have that much downtime. Recently Pero decided to “hang up the sword” and take over the Blacksmith shop since he did not want to leave his wife for prolonged periods of times, especially since you were not carrying his child. As soon as you said you had to visit the nearby town for materials for your seamstress shop, he had the horse and cart packed for the journey. It was a short journey and easy enough to collect all the materials you needed. On the walk back to the cart, Pero saw you watch the people fill into the theatre to watch a play.

“Do you want to go watch as well, mi amor?”

“Its okay Pero, I know it is not how you would wish to spend your afternoon.”

“I wish to spend my afternoon with you, that is all,” Pero took your hand and walked you towards the theatre.

You hadn’t been to see a play since before you met Pero and were happy to be back in the excited atmosphere. It was a play you had never seen before, one that had you in tears by the end. Pero hadn’t noticed, his eyes half shut with sleep, until the play ended and he turned to face you. Your face was tear stained and eyes puffy.

“Mi amor?”

“It’s fine Pero, hormones,” you tried to laugh it off but it didn’t quite reach your eyes.

He gently took your hand, placing a kiss to the back of your knuckles and helping you out of the seat, wrapping an arm around your waist in an unusual public display of affection as he walked you back to the cart. He let you sleep against his shoulder the whole way home, tired from tears and carrying his child, pressing kisses to your head and squeezing your leg every so often.

Marcus P

This man will be crying with you. With your work lives quite hectic for now, the both of you decided to find a TV show to watch together when you got home to spend some time together after work, curled up on the couch with a takeaway. This night you watched a particularly sad episode as you lay between his legs, your back pressed against his chest. You tried to hide your tears, facing forwards and letting them run down your face, but when you heard Marcus sniffle from behind you decided to turn and face him. The both of you laughed hard at how puffy each others eyes were, his arms tightening around your waist as he pulled you tighter against him. 

“I’m glad I’m not the only one crying,” he spoke into your neck, his voice a little muffled.

“Me too,” you laughed, the tears still falling down your face.

“I think we should put something a little more lighthearted than this now, hm?”

“I think thats a good idea,” you laughed, turning your head to press a kiss to his cheek.

Whiskey

When Jack got home from his mission the last thing he expected was you curled up on the couch with a box of tissues and crying at the TV. 

“Sweetheart, whats wrong?” he walked over to you, placing his hat on the rack and sitting by your side.

“This show! Why do they make it so sad?”

“Well, I could ask why you keep watching it if it makes you this sad?” he teased.

When he saw that your lips didn’t move from their pout, he gently pulled you onto his lap, your legs straddling his waist as you pressed into his neck. He kissed down your neck until your breathing calmed down a little and he finally pulled you back to look at him.

“How ‘bout you let me make you forget all about that show, hm?”

Your face finally cracked into a smile, leaning forward and taking lips in yours. After a minute of breathless kissing he stood up and wrapped your legs around his waist, walking towards the bedroom.

“Hell, why don’t we see if ol’ Jack can make you forget your own name...”

Dave 

When Dave came home from work and noticed the light was still on in the living room he knew you would be watching your favourite show because you preferred watching it on the big TV. What he didn’t expect was to find you hysterically crying on the couch. He dropped his briefcase, quickly by your side and holding your face.

“What happened?”

“They-they-”

“Shhh, its okay deep breaths you can tell me,” he rubbed his thumbs back and forth over your cheeks.

“They killed him off!”

“Who did?”

“The show! They just- they just killed him off!”

“I thought you were hurt!” Dave’s suddenly worried face was covered in a grin as he let his back fall against the couch.

His hand came up to his chest, literally breathing out a sigh of relief as he laughed.

“Its not funny,” you sighed, letting yourself fall back next to him.

“Oh, honey,” he moved his arm around your shoulders, pulling you into his side and rubbing circles on your bare shoulder, “I’m sorry.”

He reached for the remote, clicking off the paused show you had been watching and putting something funnier on the TV as he let you curl up into his side, chuckling every so often but also pressing kisses into the top of your head.

Oberyn

He hadn’t expected you to cry so much at the play, almost regretting bringing you as he watched you wipe away the tears that were flowing down your cheeks. You turned to him, cheeks red and slightly embarrassed as you huffed a laugh. Oberyn reached out and wiped some of the tears with his hand before wrapping his arm around your waist and pulling you onto his lap. 

“It’s okay, my love, I’ve got you,” he whispered into your ear.

He sat back in his chair more comfortably, letting you curl into his chest as he rubbed your back while you watched the rest of the play.

just found your tumblr account and thought id give you the comments i never left on your fics. my top three are: I. “swallow my breath and take whats mine” nothing to say about this one except i live for feral sam, the fear for dean’s death and acceptance of letting himself be cannibalized just because he doesn’t want to lose him and at the end the contempt for john, for how far he’s willing to go just to train dean (his inability to understand that it is NOT normal has a whole other special flavor). it was short, lovely and heartbreaking with a je ne sais quoi in sam’s feelings towards dean. 10/10. II. “and its you that i want” this was more lighthearted, not accounting for the breakup between dean and girl X, the best part was sam needing to be used, his desire to be just a vessel for deans pleasure. also i love EVERYTHING that depicts sam’s discomfort with his size with his need to be smaller. overall the smut is so sexy and intimate and also i love the fact that theyre obsessed with each other even in another universe. i love every smith/wesson fic because i love to imagine their reactions when confronted with what they would do with each other when not being stuck with whatever inhibition theyre battling with. 12/10 just because it has smut. “souls tied intertwined by our pride and guilt” NO. WORDS. it is my most read fic on ao3 in the whole seven years ive used the platform and it was published less than a year ago. i love everything. every word, every emotion. the fic starts with the voyeur moment, dean’s guilt at the idea that it was sam’s worst terror and sam’s fear that he may have revealed too much and everything its now out in the open. “the dark side of the moon” is already a seriously angsty episode by itself, but your spin on it with their guilt, their shame and the continuous misunderstandings is lovely.

dean’s overthinking about when did he become so overwhelming to sam that he was TERRIFIED of his big brother, when did he become something that sam needed to escape from leaving for college? sams line that said he “always lived with it” had dean spiraling with guilt and shame and fear so much that he left and “threw” away the amulet. sam on the other hand is full of shame for his biggest desire is out there, the crippling need to have his brother, so debilitating that he had to escape, not from deans leering as he may think, but from his fucked up needs, his perversion of their relationship, of him feeling like he twisted up something genuine and good so much that his brother is now disgusted with him (i love when one of the two seems “disgusted” leaving the other feeling dirty and a pervert) overall i never found a fic that fit all of my reading needs as well as this one. you took a basic misunderstanding trope and spun it in a whirlwind of suffering, dejections, inhibitions and the best part GUILT AND SHAME.

i have no more words 100/10 i live for it. keep up with your writing because i live for it and eat up every single work you produce.

heehee i'm glad this one was good! charlotte beta'd the first half of this fic in public, and it was quite funny to watch her (a lesbian who is also new to A/B/O) give it a read. servicetop sam is something that i love that i also don't see a lot of, so i loved being able to add some in this universe where their power dynamics are slightly shifted (in the corporate ladder sense and also alpha/omega lol). a +2 for the smut!! hell yeah!!! thank you ! :)

okay, small guilty pleasure moment, i LOVE misunderstanding tropes. admittedly in big, long pieces of fiction (fan or otherwise) in the 40k+ category, i can get tired of it, but misunderstandings are such a great way to understand and explore the interpersonal and INTRApersonal strengths/weaknesses/flaws of characters and their understanding of the world they are in. i was afraid everyone was going to hate this fic on sight bc it's written for me (and charlotte) specifically (and i've found from some very vocal and angry people that they hate misunderstandings (not on this blog, thank goodness, everyone has been lovely!)), but i am SO INCREDIBLY HONOURED AND GRATEFUL AND GLAD that you like it!!!!! i don't even have words for how much all of the comments, but this one especially, meant!!! all of your comments breaking it down made me smile wider and wider!

i hope my work continues to be entertaining, and THANK YOU again for this lovely ask!! (ps, your grammar is stellar!! much love!!!)

Ushio and Tora - FAVORITE dynamic, really like Ushio, short enough that I could finish and enjoy the whole thing without too much effort. Would even enjoy some more!

Rising of the Shield Hero - I think I finished the first season, but I'm not sure if there's more. Fun!

Owari no Seraph/Seraph of the End - vampires! possession! drama!

Bleach - One of my first ever anime! Kind of fizzled out during the drudge of vs. Arrancar fights, but I'm excited for the new season. High nostalgia value, currently reading the manga.

Dororo - lovely and dramatic

Haiku! - very low stakes and lighthearted fun

Free - fun sports anime with fun character dynamics!

Satsuriku no Tenshi/Angels of Death - this is a weird one where the show itself is actually too far into the horror/gore for me to enjoy on its own but i read quiet like a fight and that propelled me through a good chunk of it. the amount of anime I've started because of good fic might be embarrassing if I cared.

Magi - the sexism was really over my threshold but in between that i had fun

K/K Project - kind of weird but i watched the whole thing in one night and cried. Suoh is one of my favorite character types and Kenjiro Tsuda is one of my favorite VAs.

Seven Deadly Sins - definitely not on my rec list given the sexism but the dude in red (Greed?) is My Kind of Character so i skipped through a lot of it.

Partly watched and enjoyed:

Isekai Izakaya - certain shows I really love, but instead of watching them all at once, I pull out an episode whenever I'm in the mood. I pull this one out whenever I want to chill and see delicious food.

Trigun - fun, more or less the same as above! More episodic type anime usually falls under this category for me.

Tanaka-kun is Always Listless - another chill one that's firmly on my likes list even thought I haven't seen much of it

Mob Psycho 100 - REALLY liked the first season, haven't really been able to get into the second for whatever reason.

Kimetsu no Yaiba/Demon Slayer - Liked the first season! It doesn't quite have that special spark that makes me love it, but the lead is precious. I might continue.

My Hero Acadamia - I watched like until? season three? and had some kind of allergic reaction that has rendered me spectacularly indifferent. I enjoyed it at the time, though?

One Punch Man - kind of brainless fun for when I want the exact same thing repeatedly but in a funny way

Kamisama Kiss - Tomoe scratches a particular character itch for me but I keep getting frustrated by shoujo romance tropes I hate

Golden Kamuy - I really enjoyed the first season! and maybe season two, I'm not sure? I would like to finish this one sometime.

Rurouni Kenshin - the characters are a+ but some older shows are A Lot. I might try the manga instead?

Lupin III - I've seen some of the movies and enjoyed them, seen some of the shows and enjoyed them! an ongoing watch

Ao no Exorcist - Started looking for the brother dynamic, got thrown off by the hostility.

Bungo Stray Dogs - for some reason I find this show confusing

Blood Blockade Battlefront - same as above. It's got the right chaos vibes but something's not clicking.

The Ancient Magus' Bride - I get bothered by shows where female characters are rendered permanently delicate by circumstance or tropes (one of the things I dislike in Yona) and when it's combined with romance it can squick me really easily. This kinda walked the line? Enough that I stuck with it, and it's absolutely beautiful.

The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat - Not bad, I'm just not particularly interested in the kind of isekai that's all about the lead being overpowered

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime - I lasted a lot longer watching this one, but see above! It was fun and lighthearted though, I might continue when I'm in the mood.

Sword Art Online - less bored and more baffled? I really liked the firsttttt....two? seasons? but then they kept jumping settings and I got frustrated.

Black Clover - eventually the shounen shows start to blur together and the first few episodes felt like Just More Shounen so I dropped it.

Sabikui Bisco - LOVING it, I really like Bisco as a character

Cowboy Bepop - exactly as good as promised

Mushishi - I think this'll be another show on the chillout list. It's gorgeous and just slightly creepy in a fun way.

One Piece - I made it to fishman island, I think, and lost my stamina 😅 Thinking about picking it up again, though!

Attack on Titan - more brutal than my usual fare, but sometimes I'm just in the mood for something horrifying.
