what a fantastic transition

#as much as i absolutely adore LT with all my heart there are no cartoons out there that give me such a CONSISTENT sense of raw visceral joy #than the Fleischer Popeyes #they are the epitome of fun. that’s such a vague word i know but i think it perfectly encapsulates these cartoons #not too gaudy or self absorbed. despite the fantastical nature of some plots and the gags and visuals there’s a down to earth humility as #well. it owns its simplicity very well. hearing that ‘30s jazz reach a climax as the visuals and gags and tactility and emotions get #stronger and faster in the climax of these shorts literally #gives me goosebumps! it’s an adrenaline rush #i also adore Olive Oyl. i mean i love them all. Bluto is the greatest cartoon asshole of all time. i love the nobility of Popeye. but i #really love that Olive gets to be just as loud and mean and weird and ‘ugly’ as the rest of the guys. she can throw a punch too. she’s not #just there to look pretty or be coquettish. she has a really natural charm and doesn’t feel forced like ‘oooo look at the cool LADY #participating too!’ which i feel is an issue with cartoons of both the past and present #she’s just another facet to these cartoons without calling much attention to herself and i really like that and wish there were more #like her #popeye #seasin’s greetinks #kneitel #vid #the lack of regular woman characters outside of thin tropes in golden age cartoons doesn’t bug me as much as it really should #because as a kid i was so used to watching ‘boy’ cartoons and connecting with ‘boy’ characters (i thought liking girl characters would make #me ‘girly’) and so it’s something i’ve always been sort of used to #but with that said Olive is one character i feel very strongly about and am glad she exists for those reasons #i don’t know why i’m getting so deep on this 10 second post? but anyway you should watch Popeye if you haven’t

What’s your favorite thing about Perry?

I HAVE A LOT OF FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT HIM.......I think one of the best things tho is how quickly he shifts from being absolutely done with everything to being the best listener and supportive friend you could ask for. There's a lot of episodes where he shows up to thwart Doof and he's all business but when things get into sad/trauma territory he's very sympathetic and non-judgemental about it;; which I think Doof appreciates a lot. ALSO he's a very 'go with the flow' type of person (platypus? lol) and can adapt to spontaneous situations so quickly. All those times where Doof invites him to do smth fun or crazy he just shrugs and goes you know what yeah okay I'm in and I love that about him 🤧

#Also the fact that like. He's SUCH an expressive character #He's got so much personality and he doesn't even talk. He's a very silent character but he's also SO loud with his actions #One of my favorite tropes I've learned is 'quiet serious character who is secretly a huge softie/sweetheart on the inside' #That's Perry. That's literally Perry #He's just so. Good. He's such a good person #He's almost always willing to put up with Doof's shenanigans and honestly? King behavior #And he lets Doof vent and go off about the things he's upset about too and always listens #No wonder Doof adores him so much. I would too #AND HE LOVES PHIN AND FERB SO MUCH. #last year wasnt too bad i barely remember nye tbh but OH BOY are the neighbors making up for it this year #they arent like super big or anything but they are LOUD and we're just rural enough that nobody gives a shit #like i cannot tell you how much i love the idea of fireworks and their history #but id also like to not have 12 consecutive minor panic attacks because the neighbors have some money to burn #it's worse around the 4th of july ’cause that also has the caveat of ''what tf are you even celebrating fuck you'' #and im much more chill when it's like families celebrating with their kids because i remember how much fun mine had #but there are no kids around us #they're all adults and i want so badly to just be like ''yeah you do you man im glad youre having a good time'' but also like #they have to sell specialised jackets and blankets and medication for pets for nye and 4th of july #we dont have too many veterans in our part of town but i will never forget that pic of the vet hiding in the subway with his hands over #his ears #i dunno man i know not every activity can be accommodating to absolutely everyone #but i also think avoiding loud triggering (for a bunch of different reasons) noises is like #doable #there are quiet fireworks #thankfully my cat couldn't give two shits about loud noises but /I/ give two shits about loud noises #shut up cj #to delete

I wonder why ppl always attribute any increase of seriousness post ts in Zoro, to mihawk's influence.. and kinda just brush over his thriller bark scene and then his experience in sabaody. like he was at deaths door twice, back to back. he was on the mend from the first near death and then gets beat near to death soon after.. and then gets spirited away not knowing if his crew is okay or not. which, as the protector of the crew, for the first time, he's in the position where he completely failed to protect and support them. Zoro has a lot to live for, death isn't something that doesn't frighten him. he's reckless but Zoro doesn't want to die. he doesn't want to be without his friends. he doesn't want his path to end, because he has some important goals he'd still like to achieve. Zoro is the type to recognize a problem, address it, and then do what he can to overcome it. he did everything he could to fix the problems with himself and his perspective so he would never have to be in that position again. so he could better ensure his and the crews survival, so he won't lose the things that are valuable to him. including his own life. those experiences were traumatic for Zoro. in punk hazard we see him have a flashback of those moments, and immediately he recognizes that they're falling into the same old bad habits that put them all at risk before and he gets serious, and yells at them and gives everyone a wake up call. he was also the only one in the crew to be brought to a point of near death twice, but most importantly in sabaody, because being near death is a unique experience only Zoro was going through, for the purpose of setting up some of the best character development in the series (probably biased but That's My Opinion!). Zoro begged mihawk to help him overcome these weaknesses and mihawk helped him. but any additional seriousness Zoro may have post ts, is 100% due to how he was effected by these traumatic near death experiences, and is a natural and completely valid reaction.. (imo!!!) also? Zoro did not lose his silly goofiness at all. he didn't lose his smile, he didn't lose his ability to enjoy himself, he didn't lose his laugh. he just grew into a stronger, more capable, more grown and fully realized version of himself.

I havent truly sat down and read all of the epilogues yet but i will admit i skimmed through candy looking for all of gamzees dialogue and ignoring everything else and what i love about it is how it completely demystifies him as a character. I work at an alternative school for teen students who for many various reasons are unable to be functional in a traditional typical classroom setting - disciplinary reasons, anxiety, emotional disorders, trauma, etc. - and I assist with a lot of english classes. It makes me a little sad that the teacher I work the most closely with hates the catcher in the rye so much because I’ve been rereading it and I think my students would relate really closely to Holden Caulfield. Caulfield may be annoying and whiny and privileged and obnoxious but I think the narrative of a teenager who acts out and postures himself to be older than he actually is and is struggling to comprehend and process a lot of trauma in his life so he does things he can’t even explain to himself and acts self destructive and lashes out to other people and has emotional breakdowns for seemingly no reason would be REALLY relatable to a lot of my students and I wish I could teach it to them...

#we read books out loud in class instead of assigning readings too so like #i could stop in real time and ask them to think about WHY they think holden is doing specific things #why holden starts crying when the pimp asks him for money #why holden says he doesnt care much about his siblings but then knows every timestamp on their daily routines #why holden gets so upset over other boys his age sleeping with girls but holden doesnt do it himself #why holden gets himself into fights but doesnt like fighting back #why holden zones out while hes being lectured and thinks about the ducks in the pond and where they go during the winter #he's like a very well illustrated example of a kid who projects all of his own issues onto everyone else because he doesnt know how to #process whats going on in his life #and it makes me sad how much of a bad reputation the book gets #bc reading it reminds me so much of my students who i love very dearly #who are very misunderstood and struggle with so much that isnt their fault #idk i think my students might have a lot of empathy for holden #i wish i could teach it to them but i dont control what we do in class
