#I'm not saying that there's no criticism that can be made of it
Note
Am I the asshole for calling my boyfriend out after a party after he very Frenchly insulted our cooking?
I (25M) am dating J (27M), and we live together. For the most part he's wonderful, super sweet, and perhaps the most French man living today. He's a walking stereotype, right down to the sexiness. He's Parisian (we live in the states) and has a huge obsession with wine and cheese, and I'll be honest, he can be pretty snobby. He was raised by some well to do old money family that disowned him when they found out he was gay and it shows. He has a few antiquated ideas of what America is like, especially when it comes to food. Anything that has roots he doesn't recognize gets criticized. It's a classism problem, we recognize that, and he is trying to work on it. He slips up sometimes.
We went to a housewarming party two nights ago. It was a potluck deal and I brought a beef chili I had been working on for like two days, it was my pride and joy, and J didn't even have anything bad to say to me about it.
Anyway, an hour or so into the party we went to get food. He had a few glasses of wine, so he wasn't quite thinking straight. It turns out somebody brought homemade Frito pie (and pretty fancy frito pie too, with jalapeños and sour cream and pico de gallo, it was amazing and delicious and I am still dreaming about it), I'm southwestern and it was a staple for me growing up so I tripped over myself trying to get at it. He noticed how eager I was and scoffed at me. I asked what was so funny, and he said it was baffling that I'd go for that first since it was "comically American, down to the fried chips riddled in it." I rolled my eyes and ignored him.
Turns out the friend who made it was standing a few feet away and overheard him. She told us that she worked super hard on making the chili and cooking the pie, and if he didn't like it, he didn't have to have any. I was so fucking mortified I felt like dying. I apologized on his behalf and we stayed for a bit longer, but I was so embarrassed and angry that we left about an hour after that. I couldn't make myself have a good time. As a bit of an apology I left our friend a container of the chili I made and said if she wanted to make a pie out of it I'd be honored, and she happily accepted.
This is where I may be TA. As soon as we got in the car I blew up at him. I told him that he disrespected my culture, my cooking, my taste, and worst of all, embarrassed me in front of a friend and insulted something that brought her joy. I said "if you see Americans as so lazy, stupid, fat, and disgusting, then why are you even living here? Why the fuck do you even wanna be with me? Am I just the only good one to you?" I was laying into him for about 5 minutes. It was the worst fight we'd ever been in, not that we get in many.
He got really quiet after that and just muttered out an "I'm sorry." We were silent the ride home and we went straight to bed when we got there. I even heard him sniffling when we were trying to fall asleep, which was heartbreaking and started to make me feel like I'd fucked up, too. He's been distant for the last few days and I feel like I need to apologize.
Do I? Was I TA? I just got so upset that I couldn't take it anymore. I really love him and I just keep worrying that any second he's gonna say he wants to break up, and I never want that to happen. Any advice is appreciated.

BOOTHILL HEADCANONS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
author's notes just some silly goofy headcanons for Boothill because he's a cutie patootie and I love him fem!reader, completely SFW ♡ and ⥩ are appreciated!
Tumblr media
※ He always patiently waits for you to finish applying sunscreen or moisturizer to his face before he can finally go shooting bad guys to his heart's content. Most of the time he jokes around or teasingly dodges your hands; sometimes he mumbles that this is embarassing and he really doesn't care, sweetie, come on, but he will always give you a kiss as a token of gratitude. Because, trust me, he does care.
※ Loves snapping his teeth at you. It's a (weirdly charming) sign of affection, a habit Boothill took up pretty early in your relationship. You teasingly call it a cute aggression and he doesn't deny it. However, if he does that in public at someone else, you better get a hold of him and scatter away because the man is getting pissed.
※ Oh, he absolutely will blow raspberries on your neck whenever he has a chance to hug you from behind. And he's as sly as an old fox, lulling you into a false sense of security with gentle kisses and nuzzles — just to violently strike a poor, helpless you and dance away laughing joyfully.
※ Your first kiss with Boothill was that of desperation — he just barely made it out alive from one of the IPC warehouses, his left leg limp and dragging lifelessly across the floor, a few bullet holes adorning his signature hat, thankfully not lost in the heat of a battle. He looked no better than a wild ragged coyotte, a pitiful thing, an unsightly creature smelling of rot and blood, but upon seeing him, safe and relatively sound, your heart swelled with tenderness and your eyes — with hot tears. You wanted to kiss him then and there, and he anticipated as much, grabbing your face in his hands, firm yet gentle, and all but smashing your lips together. Perhaps, it was a shatter of all your dreams about a romantic first kiss, but at that moment it was the most perfect one...
...Or was it? As tender and loving as Boothill was with you, his tongue still tasted like oil and gunpowder. He laughed it off the first time you made a face, but since then he's made a mental note to always carry a bag of candies and lollipops with him.
※ He's the type of guy to randomly get you fresh field flowers.
Also the type to dance with you while holding one in his teeth. There is a whole anecdote about him picking an unknown flower that turned out to be quite poisonous and suffering from tongue swelling half a day after that. Don't bring this story up, though, his male ego is still recovering.
※ Boothill's upbringing obliges him to treat women with courtesy and respect. He may look like a heartbreaker to some, but in truth, his mindset is that of a traditional man. This said, he loves referring to you as a 'woman'. His woman. He relishes the fact and there is so much pride, so much infatuation and genuine awe behind this word every time he all but purrs it out. It's a strangely specific nickname of his, and no matter how unusual it might have sounded to you at first, now your heart flatters every time you hear it drip from his lips. After all, you are his woman and he is your handsome cowboy.
He might however bark at you when you're pestering him. Something in the lines of 'I'm busy, woman, what are ya yapping 'bout?'. Naturally, he never uses it as a means to offend and will put a bullet through the head of anyone who dares belittle you like that. The unspoken rule of a cowboy says: never criticize another gentleman's hat, horse and wife. And Boothill is very serious about his rules, even if technically you are not his wife (yet).
※ He adores it when you dress up for him. No matter how often or seldom you do that, no matter what exactly you're wearing — a cute cocktail dress or a strict suit — he would whistle low and stride right to you with the air of a beau who just saw the girl he'd buy a drink for. His sultry pretentious flirting never fails to make you giggle.
※ Boothill will always find time for you. No matter how many light days separate you from each other, no matter how busy the schedule or how dangerous the enemies, he can never really get you out of his head. You are always there, his little beacon of light, and he knows that you're waiting for him with worry and hope. He hates telling you that you can't come with him this time; hates seeing your smile drop and your fingers fidget anxiously as you watch him step on an unknown land. He misses you dearly five minutes into the mission, so he calls you as often as he can, showing you all the pictures he took or all the things he got for you as souvenirs. When it comes to your messages or calls there is never really bad timing for Boothill — an inconvenient one, perhaps, but even the heat of the battle will not stop him from picking up. He might even consider against shooting the poor son of a bitch that let him talk to you peacefully out of courtesy, but we will see about that.
※ Ever since you came into his life, Boothill's spending habits have gotten somewhat healthier. The thing is — the guy is loaded, yet money never held any real interest for him. After all, he became a hunting dog not for the promise of fresh bones, it was more of a pleasant bonus rather than a necessity. Most of his credits were spent on oil for his spaceship and himself, some repairs here and there, bullets and, surprisingly, booze — now unable to fully experience the harmful effects of a few bottles of whiskey a day, Boothill drinks it in the same manner some people chew on their gum. However you and your loyal companionship awoke something within him, something he thought died many miserable years ago. An urge to care. And it came so naturally to him, too. It was very easy, on a level of subconscious, for him to pick up the habit of buying you food — the one he knows you like, of the highest quality. Or making sure you have an outfit for any occasion in your life and enough space to store them all. Or that all your beauty and health treatments are paid for. Or... and the list goes on and on. Boothill is a man who will respect you for wanting to be independent, sure, but will not shame you for wanting to be provided for.

Some tea from Richard Speight, Jr. about filming Cas’s testament scene has surfaced from DLC6. [x]
nothing cut from script to screen but they added things, such as Cas having to paint the sigil on the door and leaving the bloody hand print on Dean’s shoulder [my note: wbk about the additions during filming. There's still the matter of the spanish dub because the latam dubbing team felt a verbal I love you from Dean, made sense. And a few other lingering questions that have not actually been resolved and we may never know, but I'll go along. If Rich is happy with what was filmed and got to screen in the US, I'm glad. I love 15.18 either way. Rich's comments also goes to show how collaborative making tv is and how fluid the process can be.]
Rich said the scene wasn’t intended to be about Dean’s reciprocation, it was to give Cas his moment to speak his truth, to speak his love for Dean, and Cas didn’t expect an answer back, he just wanted to be heard, wanting Dean to know. [my note: makes sense to me, and it’s what I’ve thought about Cas pov. Cas pov not being the same as audience pov and what the story might need next and what Dean’s needs are. But for that scene, Cas feels complete. It also very much means the emotional story from Dean's side is not resolved. Dean wasn't given his chance yet, by creative design, perhaps because the only way they could get this greenlit at all is if it was only Cas who got to speak. We'll see what happens next.]
Rich saying because they did many takes of the scene with Dean’s emotional reactions, there are shots where Dean is crying more, or crying less. Editing put together different angles from different takes. [my note: the irony that naysayers are already trying to weaponize this to shut down the idea that anything got cut when per Rich himself, the facts on the ground are that the full range of Jensen’s acting for Dean’s response got reduced. No shade on Rich. But let's not erase or deny what was going on with Jensen's acting and how Jensen gave 110% and what wound up on screen was about 80% of whatever work Jensen did. Dean wept more than we saw, even before Dean was on the dungeon floor sobbing. Jensen’s performance as it stands is beautiful and powerful and full of emotion. It has taken an inordinate amount of hate and erasure, which is 100% cynical concern trolling to deny Dean’s feelings for Cas. More shots of Dean crying openly wouldn’t stop it, there’s no excuse for those responses. What’s there is loud enough. Only the most willfully cynical gaze could deny the love and anguish Dean showed.]
Rich said the parallel for John and Mary’s confession in TW 1x07 to 15x18 is a “coincidence” yet went on to talk about the trope of confessing love in a life or death situation and cited Leia and Han Solo among others [my note: it was also used again by an ep Rich recently directed in another piece of media I won’t say so I don’t spoil it. Also I’m laughing about how it seems he answered this. Total coincidence!! And spn 15.18 is like TW 1x07 is like Han and Leia and love confessions in dire situations is a common (romantic) trope. Pls, if anybody is taking away from this some kind of shutdown on creative recognition of the Destiel implications of it all, I don’t even want to know, I’ve had my fill of poor comprehension skills, poor critical thinking, and poor media literacy, oh my god]
Rich saying he was glad Cas’s words meant a lot to queer fans and that he feels it was important and a “bold” move that Bobo and Misha fought for. <3
So that's confirmation from director now, to add to writer intention, both actors, and an EP who greenlight Bobo's pitch for Cas’s testament as romantic. That is canon. That is a lock.
Cas's testament started out carefully padded into an “open to interpretation” zone. We have watched it be eased out of it and into the open.
I’m pleased it's openly acknowledged for what it is...and what I knew it was when the ep aired. I did expect it would be eventually, and would take some time. I’m glad it's here now.
As always, my appreciation for the work Rich, Bobo, Jensen, Misha did on 15.18 <333

Trans Instagram #1
Tumblr media
Let's open with a witty jk rowling meme.
Protecting women's safe spaces isn't helping women's rights apparently.
Tumblr media
What even are men's brain "waves"?? lol
I swear I had a gendie say to me that since everyone starts as female in the womb, then transition is a natural human process, therefore trans women are definitely women.
Tumblr media
If it was natural, nature would have made us hermaphrodites. But no,humans can't change sex... and resolving to surgery and hormones to mimic the opposite sex doesn't sound so natural to me.
Tumblr media
"No one gives a shit about women's sports,so why bother keeping them same sex?" Anything that involves women isn't sacred or deserves integrity to gendies.
Tumblr media
Gender criticals don't believe in gender identity so they wouldn't go "OMG you are so feminine and womanly just like a cis woman!! Trans women are women fr" after meeting a TIM.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
female privilege is when having more options when it comes to self expression 😐 ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You already know my stance on this so I'm not gonna repeat myself.
Even if it was true that "real trans women" don't creep on "cis" women, you are still not addressing the problem of cis men who fake being trans for sinister reasons.
How can we tell the difference between the two? Especially since gendies preach that you just have to FEEL like a woman to be one,no need to pass or "girlmode".
Also why would TIMs go into a space that isn't safe for them mmmh? With so many scaaary terfs too.

Do you think there are any works that are being made now that'll last the test of time? Like how we still read Shakespeare a thousand years later more or less the same, albeit translated a dozen times over. I personally think Minecraft, or some version of it, will be used to teach about programming in a similar way to reading old plays teaches writing in the year 3024.
I think this is an extremely difficult question to answer in any meaningful way because there's several different factors to consider - how well-known / popular is this work to begin with? how likely is it to become more popular / critically renowned over time? are the themes and characters likely to resonate with people many years in the future?
adaptations and franchises that appear in several different forms of media further confound the issue. like, for all I know, there could be a future where some Touhou manga is considered an unsung masterpiece, but the games themselves have been lost to time. or maybe in 3024, the character "Mario" - having long since fallen into the public domain - will still be alive and kicking, even though Nintendo no longer exists nor does it produce games with him in it.
(It's worth remembering, after all, that many of Shakespeare's most famous and beloved works were adaptations of material that nobody in the English-speaking world gives much of a shit about! People talk about Hamlet; who talks about Amleth? People love Romeo and Juliet; what is The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet but a Fun Fact?)
honestly, there's only one thing I can say for sure:
if it's The Last Of Us then I'm going to rise from the grave and start kicking people into the sewers

Why Ceroba and the Feisty Four were right
Not bothering with any fancy opening, it's exactly what it says it is: Ceroba and the Feisty Four were right to call out Starlo.
Now before you crucify me, I love Starlo as a character. But I'm tired of people (not calling out anyone in particular) pretending that he's done absolutely nothing wrong and demonize Ceroba and the Feisty Four for snapping at him (largely Ceroba, but I see the Feisty Four get shat on every now and then). And this is not me calling Starlo a jerk. Typically, calling him a flat-out jerk would mean he did shit on purpose with malicious intent, and I don't think he acted out of spite. Rather, he did all those things because he just didn't think about it in the moment. I understand that, and I can 110% relate to that myself, honestly.
That being said, he did make some legit dick moves over the course of the game. Exhibit A: Having Moray walk around with a snake in their boot and giving them rashes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IK some of Starlo's more wild fans would probably do anything he says and all that, but put yourself in Moray's shoes (or boots I guess would be more appropriate). If your friend made you walk around with a rubber toy in your footwear that gave you a nasty rash, I think you'd be reasonable at least a bit angry at them.
Exhibit B: The Boulder Droppers
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're literal goddam boulders. That shit could've killed someone. Setting them up at a busy mineshaft is reckless enough as it is but leaving them on after you're done using them just makes things even worse.
Exhibit C: Blaming Clover for everything that happened and shooting them over it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What am I supposed to say? If you hate Ceroba for what she did to Kanako and Clover, keep in mind that Starlo basically did the same exact thing.
Again, this is not me calling Starlo an asshole overall. Yes, he is a good monster deep down and just made some legit mistakes. But my point is, he does have flaws nonetheless and I can't stand people who ignore them. Like, him accepting what he did was wrong and coming to terms with that is one of the best parts of his character! C'mon guys.
And yes, people treat Ceroba as a horrible friend because she wasn't into it and apparently 'hates that part of Starlo' or whatever. If Ceroba actually hated Starlo's obsession with Western culture, do you think she'd indulge in his ramblings on humans?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...or helped him set up all of those wanted posters for him?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...or helping his family search for him when he 'goes missing' during a neutral run?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*sarcastically* Wooooooow, what a horrible friend...
Yes, I understand Ceroba is a very blunt and sarcastic person, but I think because of that, she ends up coming off as harsher than she means to be. Trust me, I can relate to that.
To call her a heartless bitch is a disservice to her character. She does care deep down, even if she isn't that good at showing it.
And hey, she's a mourning widow and mother, I wouldn't blame her for not being good at showing positive emotions.
As for the Feisty Five, our favorite enby fish puts it best themself:
Tumblr media
My point is, despite snapping at him, Ceroba and the Feisty Four did not hate Starlo. They understood that his obsession over Western Culture was really important with him. It's made clear that they know he's a good monster deep down, despite his transgressions and were very ready to forgive him.
They just wanted him to dial it back. And yeah, he needed to. Granted, this is targeted at the 'Starlo did nothing wrong' crowd. If you admit that he's pretty heavily flawed but that Ceroba's done worse, I can accept that. Hell, despite me being a Ceroba apologist, I might even agree with you to a degree. But I am a bit tired of the fandom putting him on a pedestal while overhating everyone who remotely criticizes him.

When did Astruc say Adrien was lame for being feminine? I thought he welcomed the gender nonconforming headcanon? Or writing a lame character that Marinette being exceptional would like? I thought he was canonically popular with girls (and boys haha). Are there tweets I missed?
Oh, no, this isn't based on tweets. This is based on things in the show.
If you pay attention, a lot of characters criticize Adrien for being passive, not standing up for himself and being too emotional. I'm a media analyst, so I'm pretty good at spotting patterns in shows, and Adrien being criticized for his feminine attributes is a pattern, alright.
First we get these comments from Gabriel, but, we assume we're meant to disagree because Gabriel is abusive and the main villain, but then other characters get in on it.
Félix, during his arc from villain to hero, repeatedly criticizes Adrien for all of these things, and isn't exactly refuted by anyone. Félix is morally gray at this point, though, so a lot of people take whatever he says with a grain of salt. However, it should also be noted that Félix, after his debut, is the writers' pet who always succeeds in whatever he does, so we can't be too sure that the writers disagree with whatever he says.
Then come the actual characters no one can refute we're supposed to agree with. Kagami criticizes Adrien for not standing up to Gabriel and Félix more. A heroic character, who has repeatedly given valuable advice to our leads, is saying this, so we're inclined to agree. When Adrien agrees with her, the show is telling us that this (Kagami accusing Adrien of being too passive) was good advice.
What really solidifies this is Adrien himself being made to say it. That stuff in Kuro Neko about how he's too emotional and too sensitive. That's Adrien saying the parts of him that are girl-coded are wrong because they cause Ladybug trouble. And Ladybug treats this as fact. She doesn't say she agrees, but she does instantly soften towards him and accept him back into the team after he says it, implying her agreement with the statements.
Astruc doesn't need to say anything. He's the most unsubtle creator I've seen and the show speaks for him.
But, if it's direct quotes you want, the writers' commentary tells us that the reason Adrien isn't in the finale is because he's the 'princess' in their fairytale, they call him the "princess sleeping in her tower". So they're replicating sexist story tropes about "sleeping princesses" with no agency in their stories but just reversing the genders. Sounds like adrien's girl-coding specifically being the excuse the writers use to diminish his role to me!

can you do that part in the World’s End when Gary and the gang confront the Network, but with the Gods instead please?
The World's End - The Network
???: RUBY... ROSE...
Ruby: ...Yeah?
Brother of Light: (As a bright light) Ruby Rose... of the humans?
Ruby: Yeah? Wha- What do you want?
Brother of Darkness: We are here to enable your full potential, just as we have across countless worlds across countless galaxies across countless universes.
Ruby: Uh-huh, and how... How'd you do that?
BoL: (Looking like Ironwood) We appropriate a small percentage of the population at 200 or so penetration points across the planet.
BoD: (Looking like Watts) This ensures maximum coverage. From there, we create simulants to spread our ideologies through peaceful indoctrination.
BoL: (Looking like Ozpin) Our goal is simple. To ready the population for participation in our cross-dimensional community.
BoD: (Looking like Lionheart) This method requires a small sacrifice.
BoL: (Looking like Clover) But the fewer replacements we make, the more successful we consider our operation.
BoD: (Looking like Tyrian) Of course, we welcome those who volunteer themselves.
BoL: (Looking like a hunk) We can offer... attractive incentives for those who willing combine.
BoD: (Looking like a teenager) The chance to be young again, and yet retain selective memories.
BoL: Isn't that something you'd like?
BoD: Something you've always wanted?
"Ruby": (V1, Smiles at 25 Ruby)
Ruby: Oh... Oh my god... I'm... I'm so cute~!
"Ruby": (Speaking as both Brothers) The true beauty of our system is... we all win. There are no losers. (Walks up to Ruby) Let me carry on your legacy and let the woman you've become change into the girl you were.
Ruby: (Smiles, Grabs "Ruby") ...NAH. (Decapitates) THERE'S ONLY ONE RUBY ROSE! (Tosses head)
BoL: THEN YOU HAVE MADE YOUR CHOICE, RUBY ROSE OF THE HUMANS.
Ruby: Yeah, I have! And, even though I'm a little drunk, I have to ask... WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU to come down here and tell us what to do?!
BoD: WE ARE YOUR CREATORS. AND WE ARE HERE FOR YOUR BETTERMENT!
BoL: In the last forty-two years, have you not marveled as informational technology has surged forward?
Ruby: ...No?
BoD: Remnant has grown smaller yet greater as connectivity has grown! THIS IS OUR DOING, AND IT IS JUST THE BEGINNING!
Ruby: Oh, FUCK OFF, you fucking tree babies!
BoL: YOU ARE CHILDREN! YOU REQUIRE GUIDANCE! THERE IS NO ROOM FOR IMPERFECTIONS!
Ruby: Hey, Remnant isn't perfect, and humans aren't perfect, and Faunus aren't perfect, and guess what? I AIN'T PERFECT!
BoD: And therein lies the necessity of this intervention. Must the multiverse be subjected to an entire race of people like you?
Jaune: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Whoa! Who put you in charge?! Huh?! Who are you to criticize anyone?! Now, you might think Ruby's a bit of a fuck-up, and she is a bit of a fuck-up, but she's MY fuck-up!
Ruby: Aw, thanks, Jaune~.
BoL: But she is a detriment to Remnant the same as Remnant is a detriment to it's own galaxy!
Jaune: ...Excuse me?
BoD: You act out the same cycles of self-destruction again and again! At this point, Remnant is the LEAST CIVILIZED of the multiverse!
Ruby: Wait, what did he just say?
Jaune: He's saying we're a bunch of shitheads.
Ruby: HEY! IT IS OUR BASIC RIGHT AS SENTIENT BEINGS TO BE SHITHEADS! THIS WORLD WAS MADE BY SHITHEADS! AND YOU KNOW WHAT?! That makes me PROUD!
Jaune: AND ME!
Ruby: What is it they say? To err is...
Jaune: ...human. To err is human.
Ruby: TOERRISHUMAN! So... Uh... Yeah...
BoL: We do not believe you speak for all of Remnant! You are but two humans! TWO DRUNK HUMANS!
Blake: AND A DRUNK FAUNUS!
Blake: (Rappels down)
Ruby/Jaune: BLAKE! (Hug and cheer)
BoD: ENOUGH!
Ruby/Jaune/Blake: (Continue to celebrate)
BoL: ENOUGH HUMANS!
Blake: FUCK YOU!
Ruby: Oh, you are in trouble now! You're 'bout to go toe-to-toe-to-toe-to- You're about to fight the Three Musketeers!
BoD: YOU ARE REVOLTING AGAINST COUNTLESS UNIVERSES!
Ruby: Yeah, we are revolting!
Jaune: Wait, I just thought of something. You said you're not here to conquer. But how many people did you replace in Shade?
BoL: ...THAT IS IRRELEVANT.
Jaune: Is it?
Ruby: Hands up! Who here isn't infected by an alien little pissant light show?! (Raises hand)
Jaune: (Raises hand)
Blake: ...
Jaune: ...Blake.
Blake: Oh, shit, right, right. (Raises hand)
Jaune: Yeah, three people NOT taken over out of, what, an ENTIRE KINGDOM?!
BoD: Not an ENTIRE Kingdom.
Blake: What even happens to them, anyways?
BoL: Redundant vessels are broken down into basic biological components to be better used as fertilizing mulch.
Ruby: MULCH?!
BoD: It is a relevant few to ensure maximum productivity and a healthy ecosystem.
Ruby: "A relevant few" turned to FUCKING COMPOST!
Blake: And what about the other Kingdoms? Vale? Mistral? I don't think we're the only ones pulling this off, are we? Any other "glitches" in your system?
BoL: It is... true. Our system hasn't been 100% efficient with Remnant just yet.
Ruby: Yuh- You mean you bit off more than you could chew! Ha ha ha!
Jaune: Yeah, because we are more belligerent, more stupid, and more idiotic than you could possibly imagine! And I am NOT just talking about Ruby!
Ruby: Yeah, there's more than one Ruby Rose!
BoD: But you just said-
Ruby: I FUCKING KNOW WHAT I FUCKING SAID!
BoL: YOUR USE OF PROFANITY TO AN EXPLITIVE DEGREE IS EVIDENT TO YOUR PROFOUND IMMATURITY AS A HUMAN AND AS A SPECIES!
Ruby: Why don't you two just get in your rocket and fuck off back to the wherever the fuck you ran off to the last time humanity sent you off crying, you CUNTS!
Blake: YEAH! Stop SDC-ing us, man!
BoD: IT IS OUR DUTY TO CHALLENGE YOU!
Jaune: Just leave us to our own devices, you intergalactic assholes!
BoL: YOU MISUNDERSTAND!
Ruby: Shut up~!
BoD: WE ARE-
Ruby: NOBODY'S LISTENING!
BoL: IF YOU'D ONLY-
Ruby: FACE IT! WE ARE THE PEOPLE OF REMNANT! AND WE DON'T LIKE BEING TOLD WHAT TO DO!
BoD: ...And what is it you want to do?
Ruby: ...We want to be free!
Jaune: Yeah!
Ruby: We want to be free to do what we want to do!
Jaune: Yeah!
Ruby: We wanna get sauced!
Blake: YEAH!
Ruby: And we wanna have a good time! And that's what we're gonna do!
BoL: ...
BoD: ...It's pointless arguing with you. You will be left to your own devices.
Ruby: ...Really?
BoL: ...Yeah.
BoD: Fuck it. (Gone in a flash)

Hi, I'm the anon who said about table sex. I made some criticism which you took the wrong way, your friends butted in and said nasty stuff to me, and I said nasty stuff back. It just escalated out of control.
If you were more humble then maybe you would see I was merely offering feedback. I did point out the good qualities of your fic.
Someone then took my anon identity and roleplayed as me on someone's blog saying I rode my ex on my parents coffee table. It's actually not me. The table incident I spoke about involved my husband and the dining table. Without going into detail, it was awkward, uncomfortable and impossible. People who say otherwise are lying. Unless you try it then you don't know. RL is not like fanfic.
I am feeling very lonely and low just now, enough to contemplate what the point of existence. Then I see your ridiculous table sex challenge and I am crying. You just keep making a fool out of me. You're obviously not a popular blog so you're now milking your five seconds of fame at my expense just to get attention. This is even worse when people hated on me for saying blood and cheese needed to happen and they deserved it. And I stand by that. Daemon did what he had to do.
I am still really upset not that you care. I felt guilty at upsetting you but not now. You're rude arrogant and vain. Your friends reblog your fic with out reading. That's why no comment nearly or reviews. Your story sounds like a turtle tried to write it and then gave up. You probably use AI. Your a bad writer and an even worse person. Your beta should be locked up in English jail they are the worst betas I have ever seen. You're a huge turd and I absolutely despise you. Never speak to me again Percy
Okay so, I had to take a minute to sit down and think about my response. This is actually going to be my last response because we're at the point where nothing productive is going to come of this
I did acknowledge your criticism in the first anon you sent to me. Is that fic perfect? No. As I said, I'm probably going to rework that fic. But a lot of your points were just... Not valid? One of them was but the rest were obviously to try and hurt my feelings
And you truly expect me to believe someone just took your anon identity? Like sure, yeah, they could have. But I doubt it. It sounds like a cop out
Also, love how you try to act like you're the victim but then add that last paragraph. Bestie, it's giving "I didn't really mean what I said"
And yk what? It's not arrogant and vain if I can back it up. Tbh if you genuinely think I'm that way you have not been paying attention and/or haven't ever actually bothered to talk to me
Also you're the one that came back! If you don't want to speak to me, quit coming into my house!
But
To get serious for a minute. You do not know me, and I do not know you. To put your mental health on a stranger is irresponsible, especially when you make it sound like you're going to hurt yourself. I am not responsible for what you do. You are responsible for your own actions, not me. If you are truly suicidal or wanting to hurt yourself, please. Get off the internet and find a professional to talk to. I'm not saying that to be funny. I am saying that as genuine life advice

I know that everyone is saying that Jason is the reason Aarmau became canon in MCD but I recently re-watched the MCD 4 year anniversary livestream and Jess said that she was always planning on Aphmau getting with Aaron so could she be leaving something out bc everyone on here seems to believe it was solely because of Jason and that can’t be for no reason, right?
-Transcript of what Jess said below the cut-
{40:15 - 43:46}
“‘So you wanted to have a reverse harem?’ [someone in the chat] asked, um to a certain extent, so a lot of what you're gonna hear me say on the stream very much will contradict some things I have said in the past and the reason that I am bringing this to light now is because at the time I did not know how to handle certain situations I was in, I'm not gonna get into a lot of things, but just know that a lot of things I say on this stream are less censored than they were back then. Some things I honestly did say because I was scared back then, I had no idea how to handle a massive influx of audience, I had no idea how to be a YouTuber, I had no idea how to respond to public criticism. It was definitely an experience for me that made me learn a lot about dealing with people and how at the end of the day, I really should've said what was on my mind. So when you ask about a reverse harem, I really did want that to happen in Diaries, but I didn't want it to happen the way that you see it happening in like, um, or in high school where everyone was super after Aphmau or like, you know, super interested in her I wanted to do that concept but I wanted her to more about what was going on in the world and not super about love and the reason for that was because a lot of what she was going through was more so pressure from having to be...what it was more so about for Aphmau was her trying to basically deal with the world as a Lord which was something that was super stressful at the time because she has to deal with all these people you know, doing this stuff and for her it felt like...she had more concern about the people around her than her herself so the idea was that she was going to ignore a lot of her feelings for others, not act on her own emotions cause you see that happening throughout a lot of Diaries, she ignores the kids she adopts a lot very often she doesn't have time for herself, it's almost like she's so engrossed in the world that she's in and helping others that she doesn't even think about that herself so in Season 2 when she has this moment of epiphany that ‘hey, I can have what I want for myself, I can do what I want for myself’. When that happens she makes an impulse decision, but that's a decision she wants. We'll get into that a little bit later, it's a very, um I had more complex thought about this than I actually talked about and that was something that was very, very, um for me again, it became a lot about shipping, it became a lot about being afraid of having an audience that would talk about you online, it became a lot of fear for me as a creator with what was going on at the time. And I'll talk to you guys about that in a little bit but just know that that was a thing that I was going through back then as a younger creator, now that I'm an older creator I realized 'hey, I should tell the story the way I want to tell it and not how people are telling me to tell it' again, we'll get into that later on."
{44:13 - 45:16}
"OH MY GOD something I hate about the harem concept by the way, something that always bothered me, and this was from the very beginning and this was something that I thought about because I was like, ‘it's either gonna be someone else, it's not gonna be the one that two people think, it's got to be someone else’ because I hate the harem concept where, in anime, this happens a lot, the girl can't make a decision towards the end so guess what? the creator leaves it open-ended like Haruhi and Tamaki (from Ouran High School Host Club) guess what? YOU DON'T KNOW WHO SHE GETS WITH! AND FRICKIN IN FRUITS BASKET YUKI AND uh, what's his name? frickin...OH THE CATBOY I CAN'T THINK OF HIS NAME OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD! IT'S ALWAYS OPEN-ENDED, THEY CAN NEVER GIVE THE CHICK THE CHANCE TO MAKE A DECISION FOR HERSELF ABOUT WHO SHE REALLY LIKES AND WHAT SHE REALLY WANTS you know? ... Look, I have strong feelings about harems, like harem animes, and how I feel like, if you're gonna let the chick make a choice, let her make a choice that she wants, okay? Just let it happen, okay??"
{47:00 - 47:11}
"Oh yeah, I don't like when harems do that to the main chick, they're like, ‘oh she can only get with one or the other, she can't get with anybody else! Cause that's what we built up to!’ NO, NOT IN MY STORY, we ain't doing that stuff here!"
{1:24:11 - 1:26:52}
*After re-watching that scene from S2 ep 20*
"So for me, I love watching those scenes. I think for me, it's more so the fact that I look back on them and I'm like ‘Why didn't I do this?! Why did I do this?! OH MY GOD I COULD HAVE DONE THAT!’ so it's like... it's very interesting. I think that was the first, no, that was like the second crazy uh, I wanted to give basically all of the love interests a Big Moment in a lot of the stuff, so Garroth had his moment in Season 1, Laurance had his moment in Season 2, Dante was supposed to have a moment because Dante, and I think I forget who else it was um, I think it was Fenrir, I seriously have to look back on my stupid docs, but there were supposed to be more love interests for Aphmau and it just didn't happen because at the time, if you were a fan back then you might have lived through the Great Garmau v. Laurmau War, I did, I was there for everything, and trust me, it wasn't a pretty sight. But my intent was, because I mentioned this in the stream earlier, I did not like the way that harems, specifically reverse harems worked when it came to giving the main character, usually the female main character, a choice. They didn't get like, they had between two options and for me I wanted to break that, I wanted to have it a little bit up in the air and have it more open to who she could be with and that she would make her own choice. And she does make her own choice in later episodes, but that's not what people like, enjoyed and I'll get into that in a little bit because this is something that I think changed the course of how I went about writing Diaries in the future and why I believe I fell out of... why I believe I felt a great pressure on me as a writer and as a creator and why I believe that I've, well at least for me, somewhat I believe, it's what I feel, I felt that I was dragged out of writing Diaries because I gave in to what other people wanted and to what was demanded of me basically, cause I didn't know how to handle stuff like that as a content creator."
{1:58:46 - 2:19:18}
"My original idea was to have a harem with Aphmau but she wouldn't be getting with the main two guys, and if I said anything about that back then then who would you guys have to root for? What would you be watching for? This was my intent that I had, that I didn't want to talk about because honestly, like, how do you say that? Like, ‘OH BY THE WAY, YOU MAY BE ROOTING FOR A TEAM BUT THAT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN’ you don't wanna give away the story! For me, I wanted to have a female character who was able to pick for herself and a HUGE part that I think most people did not like at the time was the fact that she couldn't pick, because Aphmau would often say that she's not ready for romance, she's not ready for love and that was intended, that was basically her trying to say, ‘Hey, I'm a Lord, I'm a frickin working woman who's got like, all this bs on my plate, I gotta manage these adopted kids, I gotta take care of this other bs with the stupid villagers not being able to build their own villages, I gotta go talk to the frickin daughter of Scaleswind who gets kidnapped, and I gotta go do this stupid stuff where I'm getting stuck in wyvern dimensions and holy crap!’. She's gone through so much emotional stuff and during this entire time while you're on the ride with her not once does she give a crap about herself, not once does she say ‘Oh my god, I'm gonna have a spa day for me!’ even though there's a spa day later on in the episodes she's like ‘Oh my god I'm gonna relax for me!’ NO! EVERY FRICKIN DAY SHE'S DEALING WITH PROBLEMS! Anyway, for her she had a hard time, a serious hard time even picking between Laurance and Garroth. Though they had all these romantic scenes at the time that were on camera she had a hard time with that. It was basically them knowing that they had the Jedi Code in their blood where they couldn't really- and I don't know if you guys knew that in one of the episodes we actually do talk about the guards not falling in love with their Lords because that's a BAD thing and as you can see it turned out to be a bad thing! Who knew?! So yes, she ends up um, the guards, Laurance and Garroth end up falling in love with her, their Lord even though they know the Jedi Code, they can't do that and yeah, I say ‘Jedi Code’ but there is a guard code where they're just like ‘Hey maybe you shouldn't fall in love with your Lord because that might be a bad thing!’ and it does turn out to be a bad thing, Garroth ends up being very selfish for his brother?? Uh, I forget how that all played out but I know Garroth thought he saw Aphmau and Laurance kissing and then without like, actually talking to them about it he's like, ‘I'M GONNA BETRAY THE VILLAGE RIGHT NOW!’ so um, yeah! Now, you're probably saying, ‘Oh man, Aphmau wasn't ready for romance, then what was The Forest?’ prior to this I was building up subtly, very subtly Aphmau and Aaron's relationship. Laurance and Garroth had more screen time in terms of like, actually- and this is where I feel, as a writer and as a producer I made a mistake, because I did not show romantic interest from Aaron to Aphmau in a way that was more romanticized. I showed a more mature kind of relationship where it was like, if you remember back when we had the Isabel Arc Aaron was buying Aphmau clothes and stuff like that; small little gestures from time to time where it was supposed to be implied and this is more of a kind of behind the scenes kind of like idea of love and of a mature relationship kind of forming. One of the things Aaron absolutely knew, because as you guys know Aaron was a Lord, is that he understood the pressure Aphmau was going through as a Lord, he had a lot in common with her in terms of having guards, having the responsibility of everyone in the village on your shoulders, he understood what Aphmau was going through and knew that he should not try to put any pressure on her.
And I don't think many people in this world of Diaries understood that unless you were a Lord and I think most Lords either became corrupted or they became- there was super righteous and super corrupted and then there was kind of like in the middle where they didn't really care. So with that being said, at the time I was super set on eventually Aphmau and Aaron having a relationship and I wanted it to be more so a kind of lustful relationship than something- a lustful relationship that had a mature understanding that ‘Hey, we're Lords and we have to basically keep this between us because we understand that our villages in the Phoenix Alliance is gonna freak out if we like, show that Aphmau is like,’ I don't know like, Aphmau had a really hard time with emotions and a really hard time with kind of observing the people around her and was more so like ‘Yeah I wanna get my job as a Lord done’ and just ignoring her own wants and needs. And I feel like I could explain this a lot better if I wrote this out cause I'm not really good at verbally explaining these kinds of things but yeah, so when I decided to go through with Aphmau and Aaron a lot of fans were mad like, very mad. So as you all know, in this episode (S2 ep 73) you have Aphmau and Aaron actually talking about- they're talking a lot about what's going on, ‘one mistake. It might take one small misstep, but if you aren't careful: you can lose everything’ this is not just a lesson that Aphmau MCD was learning, it was a lesson that I was learning as a creator. It was really something that- before Aaron, even before Aaron with Laurance and Garroth, I don't know if you guys ever got to see how bad things were. How the shipping of Garroth and Laurance, not even Aaron at this time because Aaron wasn't involved in the picture, but during Season 1 how bad it got to the point where I had to ban so many comments, like I know people these days complain about Aarmau shippers, I don't think that they even come as close to what I had to deal with emotionally as a creator and a writer when it came to... and this is not ALL please don't think that this is every Garmau shipper, every Laurmau shipper, I'm assuming everyone was just young back then and I don't hold it against anybody, but it was a very interesting time because it felt like I had to adhere to Garmau and Laurmau, I couldn't do anything differently with Aphmau. If I tried to introduce another male character to Aphmau's like, circle be it Aaron, be it like uh, Fenrir or be it uh, shoot, even frickin Malachi for some reason, I don't know why, that was weird. It got to a point where I was getting emails from fans, very hateful emails, I had a lot of stuff happened during this- this was Garmau and Laurmau and I had to block a lot of comments and that's why, comparatively for you guys as fans you may remember those memories fondly, but I don't and that's because- I mean I remember the good fondly, don't get me wrong I enjoyed the good times but I remember having to block so many comments to other people on my channel about people basically telling like, the Garmau fans telling the Laurmau fans to go do something to themselves and hurt themselves and then the Laurmau to the Garmau- I blocked a lot of those comments so you guys never saw them because we had a smaller community back then, it was easier for me to monitor comments nowadays, I can't do that, it's very difficult for me to do that. With that being said, I got a lot of emails from fans back then that were just very malicious, very hurtful and I remember Jason telling me, ‘Hey, just do what you wanna do in your story’ and so I did, I said ‘Hey, I want Aphmau to get with Aaron’ and then what happened after that when this happened and obviously the episode happened when she was pregnant, obviously and obviously you can see their [Aphmau & Aaron's in S2 ep 73] conversation here it gets very deep and again, I can go in a little bit further about this, but after this event happened there was a scene that I wrote, because when this happened a lot of people were basically-
and forgive me if I'm like, talking about this in the wrong way? Again, I feel like I can convey my thoughts better on paper better than I can in public, especially in person. Basically after this whole scene here and I'm sure you guys know this scene, especially if you look at the comments you'll know exactly what I'm talking about [S2 ep 98] this is the scene that I wrote because I was afraid of very rabid fans at the time. I didn't know how to handle it and basically say ‘Hey, this is what I wanna do for my story, this is how I wanna go about it’ and so I went into this with Aphmau and Garroth and I had Garroth basically yell at Aphmau and essentially call her a slut. But- and understand where his frustrations come from, I could get behind the idea that he would react this way but at the same time, looking at his past actions, looking at what he's done in the past and how all of this was caused- not obviously, not solely by his actions but this whole time skip era was pretty much a huge part of his doing, which was intended by the way, he was gonna have a more different reaction than this one and this was the one that I wrote because I was very much afraid of my fan base at the time uh, not my fan base, not ALL YOU GUYS but like the more rabid parts of it, I didn't know what to do. I was getting messages that Aphmau was a slut, she was just like this person who just did whatever she wanted even though granted, everything she's been through in the past was something that she never re- she did things for people but when she did the one thing for herself everyone turned on her. At least, everyone as in represented by Garroth, it's a very interesting thing to think about. And again, I could very much talk about this a little bit more... it's uh, again a very sensitive topic for me because this scene here, this is the scene I wrote because I did not know how to handle my fan base, I did not know how to talk to people, I did not know how to say ‘this is my decision that this is what I'm doing and honestly, I wanted Garroth to have a different reaction here’ because he reflects on what he's done but he rams into Aph- like, not rams into Aphmau, he- I don't know it's a very... I guess sensitive topic for me because of the way he reacts. So this scene, in particular, was one I did not want to write, this is one that I was just like... yeah and it sucked and this was the scene where I basically took what I was being told and translated it to Garroth to have it told back to the character. Not that I'm associating my own self with the Aphmau character but I think a lot of people do, and again, for me the Aaron and Aphmau relationship was very much a mature relationship in Diaries which is why in Mystreet you see it toned down quite a bit. This taught me a lot about youtube and doing what I wanna do and making it so I feel comfortable with the content that I'm making but yeah, just know that this is the scene that I just was like- it was me basically giving up my creativ- this was the scene that made me feel like I was giving up my creativity to satisfy what other people wanted and that sucked. And so when people say things like ‘Aw man, she's just done this for the fans and she's just done this!’ like in terms of story like obviously there are some things that I do do for you guys but they're not like things that I don't wanna do, they're things that I like, ‘Hey I would like to do this because I see that you guys like this and I wanna do this’ this was a thing where it was like, ‘I'm seeing this reaction, I don't wanna do this but I feel so bad that I have to do this’ so if you're an artist, for what this felt like for me, is when people say ‘Hey I don't like your style, your style should be the way I think it should be and if it's not that way you're doing it wrong’ it was like this really, a like hurtful moment where you almost give up something that you don't want to give up but you're so afraid of what people think about you that you don't know how to deal with it so you just do what they wanna do.
So for me, this scene is the example of rushed and forced. I make fun of that joke a lot and I know a lot of people use that to say stuff about stories, but this story right here changed a direction for me as a writer, for Diaries, it changed a lot and it made me... I don't know, like if I were to remake this, this scene would be changed, this scene would absolutely be changed. So anyway, it sucks, it really does suck but honestly, I don't blame anybody for that I truly like to think that what this was an example of was people were young and when I think of people who fight over ships, I think of young people usually, I don't think of older people and I think that as people who are older especially it's a good idea to try to- and some people overreact, yeah that's perfectly fine I think we all do every now and then. But a good way to kind of think about this is you have to help people learn and people are gonna make mistakes, so I don't hold it against anyone. I don't think that you know, Garmau shippers are bad or Laurmau shippers are bad or Aarmau shippers are bad, I've seen the worst, I've seen the absolute worst of each of them and you know, it's just the way things are and I don't blame any one of them. I honestly just think it was an experience that I personally probably needed to go through as a creator but it was the last time I ever let people super decide what I was going to do as a content creator and if any content creators are out there watching this right now and you're like ‘Hey I need to do what people are yelling at me to do’ don't do that. Obviously if it's a mistake you should apologize but if it's something where it's just like ‘Hey I just want to tell a story for fun and I just wanna do this to make it like my own thing’ then do your own thing because if you do not do what you want to do in a story and you try to cater to people it will hurt you, your creativity, it will hurt your drive."

if i had to guess, i would say that i developed my strong feelings about the representation of jedi in canon versus fanon in the course of writing lex talionis, my jedi critical novel with unreliable narration and a fanon interpretation of the dark side. it may seem like i hate jedi critical stuff but i literally wrote a book on it lmao. in order to develop a compelling dark side obi-wan, i had to break him away from the order, and he had to feel right and justified, so i made sure to interpret every single thing the jedi do in the worst faith, and spin everything to the least generous interpretation.
as a result i know exactly how easy it is to read across and against genre, to make the jedi into something they are not, to abuse the concept of attachment, but it's not canon! it's a commentary on and reinterpretation of main canon; it changes the genre and tone of the story, and diminishes the spiritual significance of the jedi. when i did that, it's fanfiction, an erotic power fantasy predicated on rejecting the moderation and restraint of the jedi, foregrounding their flaws and undermining their virtues. i appreciate the value of that for sure, and am fine with disney doing it too, but it starting to feel like it's all we get.
my frustration comes whenever it feels like writers are speaking from the rostrum but with a latent contempt for the ideals of star wars. it's fine that they want to switch the genre of canon and find flaws in the forces of good, but deconstruction like that feels to me like a secondary and subordinate project to the main thread of canon rather than a story on the same mythic plane! you can read a million jedi critical stories on ao3, but i want canon to be where they are shown in their good and inspiring ideal form. that's the heart of my problem, i want the big canon projects to love the ideal of the jedi as much as i do and depict them generously and in good faith.
where else in our culture am i going to find a philosophy and community as inspiring as the jedi, if not in star wars, where they belong? they're why i'm here. i want canon to give me something beautiful and true to react against for my fanfiction, not just giving me only expensive fanfiction, you know? i have plenty of edgy fanficfion at home lol. i crave myth. i understand my opinion is completely warped by the fact i've written 750k words of star wars analytical erotica but it is what it is lmao

This was originally going to be a really angry post where I talked about bad faith criticisms of htfasj and vagued about the veiled entitlement of people who mock my story and went in-depth into debunking some criticisms of me that made me particularly upset with their contradiction and horrible implications. Then I wrote this last part and I realized that it was much more important than getting back at people who upset me. So I decided to delete all that and focus on this.
If you're in the Genloss fandom, particularly in relation to TSE, you've probably heard about or read "How to Fail at Ship Jumping" and seen the fandom's aftermath.
I've heard that some people have changed their headcanons to not align with mine and some are afraid to make their own AUs because of what happened with htfasj, and that really sucks.
Honestly, I think that htfasj showed that his fandom has underlying issues and my story is being made an example out of. People feel that Ranboo is too talked about and are frustrated that the side characters don't get more love. People are sick of every other fanfiction just being an escape AU instead of something unique. While at the same time showing that a portion of this fandom thinks they're superior for not liking popular things (the irony of them following streamers with thousands of fans across the globe apparently lost on them) As angry as I am that fast is being made into bloodsports for kids who feel they are entitled to my time and attention, (and make no mistake, that is exactly what my vocal critics are mad about) it's not exactly going against the grain where it matters. It's probably controversial as it is because it's so inoffensive.
I'm planning on soft-quitting Tumblr. After breaking my phone and not being able to check the app for two weeks I realized that I was in a healthier headspace without it. I'm not deleting my accounts because my comic still has people who love it and I don't want people to lose it. But I don't enjoy being in the Genloss fandom anymore because now I constantly fear that there are people who hate me for just having fun or people who like me who are being excluded from parts of the fandom because of my controversy.
So before I leave, I want to say something.
If How to Fail at Ship Jumping frustrates you, make your own version of it that you like better. Or make a completely unique AU that holds all of the things that you love! I don't want the comic that I made because Ranboo's story inspired me to be the "arbiter of Genloss fandom's destruction" I want it to inspire people the way it inspired me to finally get started on my own webcomic.
Be it out of spite or out of love, I want htfasj to make you make something for this fandom that you love and that other people love. I want you to do something fun and unique that makes you happy and scream with joy! I want you to have a subsection of the Genloss fanbase obsessing over your versions of the characters and asking you a million little questions in your ask box and on Discord! I made htfasj because I wanted to do something fun for myself that others could participate in. I don't want to ruin other people's opportunity to do that.
I'll hop back in to squeal about The Founder's Cut next Saturday, but that's probably the most Genloss stuff you'll get from me for a while. I just hope that this fandom will be in a better state by then and we can all have fun talking about this horror series and making it our own with our fan fiction and fan art and AUs like we should have been.
Also publicly hating on other people's fanfictions and Fan art for the sake of complaining instead of trying to help the creator improve is considered bad fandom etiquette, even popular ones. I don't care if you don't @ me, you're still the one being rude.

I really hate that the conventional wisdom about “Rejoined” outside the Trek bubble I'm in is that it's just a sweeps week episode made to boost ratings and/or that the metaphorical nature of the reassociation taboo means that it 'doesn't count'. (As well as the oft-repeated 'Dax used to be a man so they're not really gay', which always struck me as so hilariously tone-deaf in its bigotry...)
Don't get me wrong, the former argument isn't untrue and yes the episode doesn't actually make any direct reference to lesbianism or bisexuality, but also how do you watch “Rejoined” and remain completely unmoved? It's such a thoughtfully crafted and heartfelt episode, the director (Avery Brooks) and the actors (Terry Farrell and Susanna Thompson) clearly cared about what they were doing, and imho it well surpasses the context in which it was made

Don't really mind or care if people hate spn, or are frustrated with it. It's a frustrating show at times, it's limitations were often frustrating. This is not about criticism.
But some people really need to grasp the idea that an imperfect piece of media can also be good. Deliberately good. That the people who made it are talented know what they're doing and think deeply about the story.
Every time someone who claims to be a huge fan of the show calls "the good parts" of spn accidental or calls it the worst show ever, they're revealing themselves.
Calling it accidental shows that people don't pay close attention to the media they're supposedly obsessed with.
Anything for cheap, viral engagement I guess. No way could anyone be obsessed with it because it's a well-crafted story with great characters due to the craft of making a tv show.
Too many people also believe everything great about their favorite characters and the story came entirely from the actors and that's a reflection of how parasocializing celebrity culture has eaten spn fandom spaces and gets valued over engagement with the actual story and characters. (When people get tired of their own fave and don't feel things about their own fave because their adulation of an actor is stronger...yeah it's time to know when to say when and move on from the show itself).
That overly parasocialized take also reflects low media literacy and it actively erases the writers rooms for 15 seasons. It's an insult to every writer who ever worked on spn, not to mention directors, cinematographers, and other crew who used their craft to back up the telling of the story.
Some want to cultivate an air of ironic detachment because it makes them feel cool or smart, but I'm sighing tiredly at the lack of media literacy.
Maybe some people need simple binaries. So they can't reconcile that spn can be a flawed piece of media and a brilliantly made piece of media at the same time.
Or maybe they're ashamed to show their own unironic love for spn.
I love reading people's deep dive analysis and feelings about the characters, and the analysis of visual language, and analysis of symbolism, and how people point out the connectiveness of the story to itself. The literary techniques the creatives at spn used are very real and very deliberate. The writers deployed long-term planning. Returned to the same themes again and again. spn rhymes.
There are always some happy accidents in media, and always things that harm a story, poor decisions, or external factors that derail a good arc or plan. It's not mutually exclusive and it co-exists with purposefully crafted brilliance.

(re: sssniperwolf and jacksfilms) It's laughable that she escalated it that hard. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure stalking him like that is illegal and it's terrifying regardless, but Jack said in a stream (can't remember which one) that he wasn't about bringing up past controversies of hers or cancelling. And now she shows up outside his house (wtf!!!). Like he was willing to only call her out for stealing and freebooting but she's gone and stalked him and Jack doesn't seem like the type of guy to take that shit. Actual WTF moment from her part. wild
omg long post below bc apparently I have opinions: YES!! THAT'S WHAT'S SO INCREDIBLE ABOUT THIS... Jack has been genuinely diligent about keeping things on-topic in his streams, and hasn't brought up any of her other Stuff, or anything Personal. Despite the fact that she kickstarted the whole thing by making it INCREDIBLY personal and attacking his physical appearance... His goal has been to call out and bring attention to content theft, and he's stuck with it. Dude's also cared about this for years, and she's not the first content thief he's criticized. He just hates the way that freebooting has become so accepted-- to the point where youtube praised her for "coming up with such creative video ideas"? Hey! Ew! Dude wasn't trying to get her cancelled though, there was no smear campaign of her character. He's been rallying to get her to CREDIT the creators that she relies on for all of her content. It would set a precedent for all other "react" channels on the platform for one of the biggest channels on youtube to actually give credit where credit is due. Or, god forbid, get permission first? It's not hard. It's already done the job of making some other people who do "react content" self-analyze whether or not their content is transformative, and to maybe care about crediting the creators they rely on for their genre to work. There is a way to make this kind of video that isn't so slimy. And making fun of her lackluster-at-best reactions is so far from even being a big deal. Bc she literally does just sit there and say nothing. Plus, his goal has a clear End built into it: if she started shouting out the creators she takes content from, and put links directly to their pages in her video descriptions, the job would be done! That's what he's asking her to do. Real bare minimum stuff. It legit would have been easy to steer away from the content theft and to also talk about her history of lying to her audience! her ghosting a dying kid with cancer who was a big fan of hers! the fact that she's been arrested for armed robbery! her history of transphobia! He would also get more clicks that way, which is what she claims is his sole goal- to get more clicks. I'll bring it up though! She's been a terrible person the whole time, and has kept a steady course of manipulating her audience of young children and/or, let's be completely honest, simps- into thinking that she's a Wholesome creator. (And now, into thinking she's an innocent victim.) All of the actual effort put in by her has gone toward optics, not the content she puts out. A carefully constructed online persona, for one, but also literal appearances. Jack totally can't say this, bc she already went off the handle and said the only reason he doesn't like her is bc he Hates To See A Woman Be Successful. But I can! That was a cheap shot for her to use that argument when, for once, it's not applicable! Much the opposite, even! Dudes online wouldn't go to bat for her if she didn't look the way she does. And it weakens any case she'd have against him by making baseless claims like that. She banks hugely on being an attractive woman to get her clicks/following. A massive amount of effort is put into her appearance. The makeup, the lip fillers, putting her hair in little pigtails, the chokers and tube tops, the big non-prescription Nerd Glasses, the thumbnails where she has her mouth open in That Expression?
I don't even have to say anything. But making a weird facial expression and putting your hair in pigtails aren't moral failings. Showing up at someone's real life home (whose address you shouldn't even have access to), filming the front of their house at night, doxxing them to your audience of millions of people? Because you were mad at them online? That is fully scary! Yeah girl I'm pretty sure that Jack can press charges! There is absolutely no way to take the moral highground now that she's literally stalked him, and doxxed his home. She tried to goad him and Erin (Jack's wife) out of the house, also, which creeps me out even more-- because what was she planning to do? The fact that she's been arrested for violent crime before does pop into my mind! lmao! Jack was streaming a game at the time that she was outside his home, and these clips of him, his friends, and Erin reacting in real time to what is genuinely a scary situation have been taken down in case he needs to use them in legal action. Shit is legitimately serious!
#sergle answers#long post#LONGEST POST ON EARTH I'M SO SORRY#saying all this out loud only takes a few minutes but typing it... girl this is a BOOK#clearly I have thoughts on this Online Drama but also this isn't online!#these are people who exist in real life. and compromising a person's safety bc he criticized you for stealing tiktoks#is a real life thing. this isn't confined to online spaces! you can turn off your computer to get away from An Argument#but someone going to your house?? that's absolutely terrifying#and all of this is just because he's been telling her to credit the creators. it could have been resolved so simply.#I hope he takes legal action against her bc he genuinely has grounds to do so.#and I can't imagine how terrified and upset I would be if someone was outside my door. filming my house for their audience.#also the 'what if the roles were reversed' argument is rarely made in good faith... but she's already brought up the topic.#this would be getting even more coverage and the optics would be Even Creepier if a strange man with millions of followers showed up#at the home of a woman- just bc she criticized his videos- filming her home address for all to see and trying to get her to come outside.#It's just as creepy that sssniperwolf did this as it would be coming from ANYONE else#it's been downplayed bc her being a little skinny woman means that A Man shouldn't be threatened by her#which. even if she wasn't going to Do anything. any one of her rabidly loyal online followers MIGHT. she's not the only one who could go to#his house now! anyone could show up.#sergle.txt#Jacksfilms#Sssniperwolf
