After seeing the little tutorial for bookbinding by @niennanir, and realizing I had most of the supplies already or could get them easily (and fairly cheaply, too,I ended up finding a couple nice sales like glue for $0.50 a bottle and nice textweight bright white paper for $20 instead of $35-40), I finally nerved up enough to try a hand binding of a fic. I picked one of my own (a 20k one, but split into 4 chapters, so I'll just do 1 chapter per booklet), and got to work.

Bug helped me weigh down the first one. It's currently drying into the cover, while the second one does its first dry. It was actually very easy, especially once I saw it in person. I might do a few others of my own.

May 21st through 27th is Schizophrenia Awareness Week, and what makes that so important is that there is still a truly abysmal level of stigma and misunderstanding surrounding schizospectrum diagnoses which makes it difficult for people like me to be open and frank about our illness.

in any case, I wanted to do something for it, so here's a personal piece regarding the specific experience of when positive symptoms (i.e. hallucinations, delusions) aren't as debilitating as the negative ones - anhedonia being chief among them;

"I'm hallucinating but that's okay as long as I still get to feel happy."

Becky, the ‘praying’ mantis, always wrapped in religion due to her parents. Becky who looks like an entirely different species but Is Not. Becky who killed Kian while they were kissing, likely because the bug mechanisms in her went off automatically. Becky who left the site of their relationship alive and Kian who did not.

Kian, the moth, who flew across the country for his best friends, one of whom he had fallen for and the other he easily Could have. Kian who walked to Becky’s house, and drove to the tree with her. Kian who died in pursuit of the things he loved, burnt up by his passion. Kian who was likely cocooned in his cult family’s ideas as a child and then again in his own flesh as an adult. Kian who looks like a star but really crashed before he reached stardom, Kian who was a moth that looked like a butterfly. Kian who was reborn only to die again, chasing after his best friends.
