#milgram #fuuta kajiyama #like the other vds have good writing about the character and whatever social issue their crime focuses on #but this one is very pointedly about YOU #its about the audience. its about the milgram project. its about self reflection. its about self-appointed roles. its about you #even if you didnt vote t1 or anything the whole things is calling on you to reflect on your own judgements of others #how you treat people who come off rougher. how you treat people who have made a (bad but) common mistake. #do you also find entertainment in seeing people dragged down and suffering because it would 'serve them right?' #but es always remains in control of the situation. the drama doesnt end with 'and fuuta was right - you guys suck!' #its clarified that situations are different and have nuance. we are reminded to look at things with nuance. #then we are smoothly re-immersed in the story #and then!! the acting itself!!! #arthur lounsbery put his whole fussy into that performance (<- fuuta pussy) and i am in his debt every day for it #in both his vds hes just super expressive and fun to listen to #i dont understand japanese but he packs so much interesting intonation and emotion into every word -- im obsessed listening to him #he nails all the subtle emotions fuuta has: the pouts and outrage as well as underlying fear grief insecurity and immaturity #and then baptism of fire hes just... Wailing #like mahiru has her innocent and pathetic cries of pain in her sweet voice that works for her character but fuutas pain feels much more raw #the way hes practically sobbing at the end -- his voice cracking and screeching throughout -- the whimper of pain #its so unbearably intense!! it hurts!! and its supposed to!! but hes just so raw with it #and dont even get me started on his pained hysteric laughter omg.... #its just. a masterpiece. #i always appreciate the vds but i dont think ive enjoyed/relistened to one as much as this one #okay WAIT im back to add one more thing because im obsessed with ths idea of intentions #specifically in milgram i think the intention behind the murders are very important to consider #so i love love love the huge focus on 'i didnt expect/mean for this to happen' #plus as a general theme in fiction i think its sooo juicy when good intentions get fucked up #so i loved the repetition of that #fuuta is such a special case because he genuinely had no desire or expectation for his victim to die #(maybe kazui too? but he doesn't say so in his vd like fuuta does)

be careful you guys, there are sickos out there that memorize ciphers, alphabets, and writing systems for fun. and they LIKE it

#I'm sickos #that's actually a big part of the reason why I started learning japanese #I memorized the httyd runes and would practice writing in them when rtte was still airing #and i used to make up ciphers and stuff in church when i was little #i kinda thought i was more or less alone because in working with japanese learners i quickly discovered that most of them are like #nooo not three alphabets!!! or they're like i hate katakana! kanji is the bane of my existence!!! #and i was like yeah understandable i guess #but then when the linguistics/spanish professor started japanese 101 i asked her how the syllabaries were going #bc those are typically the first big obstacle people run into #but she very enthusiastically was like oh i love it!!! ah, well, so about that. most of the languages in that list are supposed to be crossed out ! back when I made my blog you could do a few html things in the blog description, but it doesn't show up anymore, especially not on the app/mobile. so now it just looks like a long list of languages which is a bit misleading

I am definitely interested in all those languages, and have taken a few classes or self-studied most of them over the years, but I definitely don't speak all of them

should probably be edited/updated, but I'm not even sure I'd still remember how to do that...

#langblr #I'd say I speak afrikaans english and french #am conversant enough in german and dutch (they're basically freebies with afrikaans as an L1 (although that does cause interference !!)) #yiddish I studied while taking a course on the literature of the shoah at uni #and while i do still read forverts regularly #most of my jewish friends moved abroad after uni so I don't actually *use* the language anymore or have an active connection to it #so I don't think it counts anymore #xhosa and persian i've studied a lot as well #i can remember how the grammar works and a handful of words #but i can't speak or read or do anything to a useful/practical level #gothic and toki pona are special #and then nul points to sesotho and japanese. they're on my list. I will learn them one day #i also want to learn bambara and my friend has suggested we learn italian #but I haven't started either of those yet either

//Kitty's first language is English. I think if she were to learn another or know the most phrases in another, it would be Spanish since she's from California. In the UK most people learn European Spanish but I think Kitty would learn South American Spanish, probably through Mexican Spanish audio tapes or watching telenovellas and dubbed cartoons. Although I can also see her learning Dutch or German since she found out her grandparents were from The Netherlands (mother's side) and Germany (father's side.) Perhaps in emigrating they were even fleeing the onset of the Second World War?

Kitty might be quick to pick up phrases but struggle with some pronounciation. She'd be stronger in some languages more than others, for example she'd find any language with a totally different alphabet quite tricky as an English speaker. But then she'd remind herself if the Chinese exchange student in her class can learn English why shouldn't she push herself to learn Dutch?

I think in terms of which language she thinks sounds the nicest to the ear, it would probably be French. French and Belgian cartoons have such an elegance, class and charming wit about them. Oh God imagine her bumping into TinTin 😂

Actually I love accents. Like no matter how good you become at languages you still have some sounds/letters you pronounce in a specific way, that's actually very cute

Fun thing about learning multiple languages. When i do my typical "ramble to myself in Foreign Language" kind of silence filling via narrating what I'm doing... used to be just Spanish that I'd do there, yea? But now there's the Japanese too. And Sometimes. When the setting is "talk in another language". Well I sure do talk in some kind of non-english, that's for sure
