I don't think I'll do a full character sheet for the Hybrid. This was more of finding out how to tweak the character's design to be fun & easy to draw when I can find time to work on Issue 2. Either way, I hope you'll enjoy this quick sketch I'm doing instead of studying for exams 🙃

Technically the FIRST 80s slasher film, and it has all the trimmings! Ridiculous kills, a killer that can put themselves into suits of armor, or up a tree without anyone noticing, and the guilty party is the most obvious person with the most obvious motivation.

This is a party movie! Grab your friends, have some beers and have a great time!

To All a Goodnight

How inept is David Hess’ TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT (1980, Amazon Prime)? Let’s just say that a female character’s name’s being listed as “Mr.” in the closing credits seems a weak punchline to the inanity that precedes it. This is the only feature (praise the Lord) directed by Hess, the main killer in THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (1972). Before the credits, a scene shot through a fuzzy filter reveals the accidental death of a young woman as part of a prank at her finishing school. Years later, the women staying there over Christmas break and their dates are slaughtered by a killer dressed as Santa Claus. This was the first slasher film of the 1980s, but it has none of the impressive gore effects Tom Savini created for FRIDAY THE 13th, which came out just a few months later. With that film, however, it shares the inane revenge plot in which the killer takes out people who had nothing to do with the death that motivates the mayhem. The characters here make no sense. One girl (Judith Bridges, who occasionally seems like a human being) goes on forever about wanting her hot, rich boyfriend to marry her, then seduces a police officer who’s not all that and doesn’t even bother locking the bedroom door. Not that it matters, since you don’t expect any of them to survive the holidays. Jennifer Runyon, one of the many Sally Frames on ANOTHER WORLD, might as well have a neon sign on her head flashing “final girl,” though her approach to the role is to whine her way through the film (she’s no Laurie Strode; that’s for sure). Just when you think the film can’t get any worse, the rich guy sings. At least he admits he’s a lousy singer, though you’d really expect the rest of the cast to shout in unison, “Ya think?!?”
