oh wait no no but now i’m thinking about john b teaching you how to surf :( i need it, it’s too cute :(
eek yes!!!!! omg. I’d love to learn how to surf from john b I feel like he’d be so supportive and a really really good teacher. he wouldn’t make fun if you were scared, he’d be so understanding! you’re worried about it, scared of hurting yourself or embarrassing yourself or both. he reassures you, ‘it’s okay, pretty. I’m gonna look after you.’ and you know he will! he’ll even just put you on his board with him at first to get you used to it. it takes a few sessions, but once you’re a bit more confident and can actually do a few simple things on your own and he’s so proud!!! even if you wipe out he’s proud of you. of course checking if you’re okay, and he won’t ever make you do anything you’re too scared to do. afterwards you def get lots of praise kisses from him <3
+ this is a given but he’ll 100% ask if he can do your sunscreen bc he’s just that much of a loverboy <3

Marry Me - John B Routledge
Request: omg hello to one of my favourite obx writers !! can i request a john b imagine where the reader is a huge bookworm and one afternoon, they're both sitting on the couch at the chateau , and john b is watching her while she reads, glasses perched on her nose, and maybe possibly impulsively asks her to marry him?
A/N: This is just fluff honestly.
Outer Banks Masterlist
✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
John B wasn’t entirely sure how long the two of you had been lounging on the couch. At some point in the afternoon he was positive that he’d fallen asleep. It’d been raining since you got there and it was still raining when he came to, spread across the couch with his head on your lap. You were reading and he couldn’t remember if you’d been reading the whole time or just since he’d fallen asleep but you didn’t acknowledge that he was awake now. Not that he really expected you to.
John B knew you well enough to know that when you found a book you really liked it was as if you were in a bubble. Every distraction just seemed to bounce off of you and you were completely engrossed. It used to bug him a little bit, when you were first dating and he mistook your interest in a book for a disinterest in him.
It’d been almost a year though and he saw it for what it was now. A comfortableness that couldn’t quite be matched in anyone else. You weren’t avoiding him, you were letting him a further in, letting him see the way a book could grab you. In turn, he let you see the way he was when he didn’t have to be quite so ‘on’ for his friends. When it was just the two of you and no expectations and both of you could relax like this, lounging on the couch and listening to the rain and he could feel your fingers card through his hair every once in a while.
“We should get married,” he finally said, turning so he was on his back and he could look up at you. It was the first thing he’d said in a matter of hours and honestly, he didn’t expect you to hear him at all. He’d had whole conversations with people while you were reading and you never seemed to absorb any of them. This, he figured, would be no different. An offhand comment, while he was still groggy and just waking up, the rain the only soundtrack to the afternoon.
But he felt the way you tensed, saw the slight curl of your fingers around the edges of the book as you processed his words, as they broke through the haze that reading caused. He watched you push your glasses up your nose and then slowly, the book closed on your forefinger and you looked down at him, your face a blank expression.
“What?” You sounded unsure, as if you’d imagined the whole thing and you expected to look down and find him still sleeping.
“We should get married. I mean, not right now, but we should.” He mused, taking one of your free hands after you put your book down on the arm of the couch. He pulled a loose thread from the end of his t-shirt and wrapped it around your ring finger, “there you go.”
“I didn’t say yes yet.” You teased, bring his hand up to place a kiss against his knuckles. “I think that has to happen first.”
He shrugged, “okay, say yes then.”
“John B,” your voice was soft as you ran your thumb along the back of his hand and used your other hand to cradle his head. “Don’t you think this is all a little impulsive?”
“Is that a no?” He asked, somewhat amused. If he’d thought that no was even a possibility, he wouldn’t have tried breeching the subject in the first place.
“No,” you shook your head, “it’s a yes.”
He hummed and closed his eyes at the feeling of your fingers in his hair, “okay, you can go back to reading. That’s all I wanted.”
“That was it?” You laughed quietly, taking the book up once more but not opening it yet.
“Well,” he thought about it for a second before smiling, “I wouldn’t mind a kiss.”

YOUNG, WILD AND FREE ↠ 「 Outer Banks 」
PAIRINGS: John B Routledge (possibly eventual love interest, best friend), Pope Heyward (platonic, best friend), Kiara Carrera (platonic, best friend, a potential love interest), JJ Maybank (platonic, siblings)
WORDS: 1312.
NOTES: So, I don’t have an exact definite love interest for my OC, River yet since she’s going to have a few possible love interests and will try her best to allow others to get close and be in a committed relationship, I apologize. Also, River and JJ’s close sibling relationship was inspired a lot by Jesus and Mariana’s close relationship from “The Fosters.”
SUMMARY: River Maybank was a girl who always tried her hardest to fight and get back up when she was down, oftentimes at the hands of Luke, her abusive father. Like her brother, JJ, she was known to be a rebellious person, the girl had always enjoyed taking risks and partying, most times to rid herself of the trauma they had both faced in being raised in such a tragic environment. She loved to have a good time in parties, smoking weed, promiscuity, art and surfing with art being her way of expressing herself through such traumatic moments. River didn’t believe in committing to a relationship, frankly, she was scared to death of commitment and could never see herself staying with just one person for too long or else she’d lose interest. Frankly, she didn’t see herself as valuable enough for anyone else regarding a relationship with River seeing herself as broken and “damaged goods,” and as she continually told others, she was working on herself first before anything else but hopefully, there truly is someone eventually out there for River Maybank.
Tumblr media
RIVER MAYBANK, like her brother is known for being the life of the party on the cut side of Outer Banks. Despite her tragic and abusive home life, she tries her hardest not to let that affect her but coping with it by unraveling in very heartbreaking coping mechanisms like drinking, weed and promiscuity along with a healthy one in art and surfing.
In doing so, River tries her hardest to not get too attached to those who she feels that she could lose in a blink of an eye with the exception of her brother who she knows would never betray her just as she would never to him along with their shared friends who they both know is more like family than they’ve ever had back home besides one another.
Because of how loving JJ is towards his dear twin sister, he can be quite overprotective which could really drive River insane even though he has the best intentions at heart. Within this, River feels that he often acts like her father rather than her brother and takes this into extreme lengths and circumstances with him believing he has the right especially with him being her brother despite her mentioning that they’re twins and she’s only younger than him by a simple ten minutes.
There were numerous times that in not wanting his sister to deal with the same abuse that he had and in protection, JJ would take the fall for River with them both knowing that if Luke was to ever find out, they’d suffer ten times of the abuse that they had dealt with prior. And in times like that, River was always very grateful for him to do that even though, she was okay and accepting of taking the heat for her own troubled actions.
With their extremely close bond especially as they only truly had one another to depend and rely on as children growing up, to their mutual disgust and disappointment, oftentimes, River and JJ are mistaken as a couple with the two sharing a grossed out facial expression. And throughout every fight and argument they’ve had where they were beyond infuriated with each other, they would never let become too much where they hated each other or even if they claimed to do so, the hatred and anger would never last long as it would never break their special bond.
One explosive fight was over a guy that River was trying her hardest to commit to but struggled with nonetheless. Upon meeting him and in any possible romantic suitor needing JJ’s approval to date River, he had deemed the guy to be a total fuckboy to which a chuckling River felt JJ to be a total hypocrite since he was exactly of the same sorts.
A particular guy who no doubt had JJ’s approval was John B Routledge, JJ’s best friend since the third grade and someone who he along with their shared friends had believed the two to harbour crushes over one another despite potentially breaking the “No pogue on pogue macking” rule. River and John B were believed to have a flirtatious relationship with their joking around and bonding moments but truthfully neither saw it as romantic but rather pure friendship and a sibling type bond.
Something that neither her brother nor her friends knew with the exception of Kiara was that River was very much into women just as she was of men but also loved anyone of any gender for that matter with identifying herself as pansexual. Kiara had once saw her friend making out with a woman slightly older than her and in accidentally overcoming this, she could surely tell River was the one withholding the upper hand and in proving her belief that she was a dominant woman.
Her promiscuity was something that she felt saved her in a lot ways but also hurt her in causing her to be fearful of commitment and in relationships that were not strictly sexual and nothing more. She could never truly see a committed River in any romantic relationship that wasn’t sexual, it just wasn’t something that was in her nature nor even had wanted for herself whatsoever.
Throughout their years of shared childhood abuse, JJ and River have promised to never keep a secret from one another which of course River tried to keep except with one major secret that she vowed to take to her grave with how explicit and traumatic it could be as she knew it would JJ to quite fury and create even more painful moments than they already endured. Because if she did, JJ would blame this upon himself and see himself at fault when it never truly was nor had he known about it.
And as much as she didn’t want to believe it, she oftentimes at her lowest felt like she deserved the pain and abuse that Luke put her through regarding all the rebellious and troubled acts that she had committed in a way to remove how terribly the abuse affected her from childhood to current teens.
As a way to remove herself from such a toxic situation and mindset, she would abuse substances, sleep around and oftentimes would paint since art was a great passion of hers. River felt that art was the perfect example in removing such pain and trauma with also being an excellent way in expressing herself.
She wanted to believe that the abuse her and JJ suffered from their dick of a father didn’t affect her as much as she’d like to believe with drinking and smoking her sorrows away. It felt like the better option than any of the others that she had thought of at least.
Another way that had helped her cope with surfing which JJ had taught her in once he had learned himself. It was a hobby that they bonded over amongst all the other shared hobbies that they endured together.
Regardless of all the struggles and trauma that sixteen year old, River Maybank had gone through, she wasn’t going to let this get to her nor let Luke bring her down without a fight because she deserved vengeance both for her and for her brother as well considering how much pain, suffering and emotional distress they’d gone through. Because as River famously quoted herself saying, if someone kicked her while she was down, they better hope and pray that she doesn’t get back up with her love of vengeance.
She didn’t want to make herself get used to such a toxic environment and just accept it for herself like her friends believed she would nor let herself feel like she does not deserve a loving relationship with whoever she felt a strong connection with. They wanted happiness for her and wanted to get her to believe that she deserved it as well. This girl who viewed herself as not worthy of anything good, seeing upon herself such a broken soul and as someone who was simply just “damaged goods” was much more than that.

7 Minutes in Heaven {obx - jm}
Tumblr media
Pairing: JJ Maybank x Fem Pogue!Reader (kinda some John B x reader if you squint)
Summary: pogue!reader gets selected for a game of 7 Minutes in Heaven with JJ—this should be no big deal, right?
Warnings: drinking, smoking, swearing, suggestive flirting, idk? Mild angst. Mostly fluff
Word count: 2,671
A/N: hiii this is my first time ever posting my own lil fanfic to tumblr. I’m sorry if there are any errors:(( I usually write original fiction but this was in my head and I couldn’t get it out. I hope someone gets some enjoyment from it <3 there is a John B alt ending written but idk if I’ll post. Let me know what you beauties thinnnnk:)
Tumblr media
When a game of ‘Never Have I Ever’ didn’t sound juicy enough to the sexed up tourons, a blue-shirt wearing frat bro suggested everyone partake in a game of 7 Minutes In Heaven.  The pogues were never one to back down from a challenge—least of all you, who’d kissed all of your friends at some point or another.
You took a sip of beer from the paper cup in your hand, but not even drowning yourself in drinks could save you as John B and a touron girl exited the closet, heralding your turn next. He wore a lazy, drunken smile, dancing to the beachy music thumping from a nearby amp.
“Tourons pick the lamest party games.” You hid your bundle of stress underneath a coy joke. “We could be playing flip cup instead.”
“You were laughing when it was Sarah and me.” Kie filed into the room next with a fresh beer in hand, brushing your cheek with the other hand as she passed. “Not so smug now, babes, huh?”
She plopped down on the arm of the chair Pope sat on with his feet kicked up, rolling a backwood.
“Of course it’s funny when it’s not me. That’s how it works,” you said.
John B’s laugh rang out as he orbited around your back, to your side, appearing in your peripheral. You turned slightly, cup pressed against your bottom lip.
“How about you finish off that liquid courage,” John B used his index finger to tip the bottom of the cup up to goad you into chugging. You tried not to laugh into the drink as you complied, drinking the remainder of its contents. “Atta girl. Now lighten up, buzz kill, ‘cause it’s your turn.”
You tossed the now-empty cup at his head with a laugh, watching as he swatted it away. “Like you need an excuse to makeout with someone in a closet.”
“Seven minutes of swapping bacteria.” Pope chimed in from his spot on the recliner as he sparked the lighter. “In the best way possible.”
Kie crossed her arms. “You don’t have to kiss anyone.”
JJ burst around the corner into the room, beer spilling from the bottle in his hand as he caught the last half of the conversation. “Hey, don’t say that! We all have to follow the rules.”
“What rules, JJ?” You rolled your eyes. “The ones you pull out of your ass?”
“Yeah, I can jot them down for you.” He feigned looking around the room, touching his chest for imaginary pencil pockets as the bottle sloshed in his hand. “Anyone got a pen? Maybe a marker? Crayon, perhaps?”
“Alright, alright, I get it!” You conceded with another laugh. “Pour me up a shot and let me make someone’s day!”
Kie hopped off the couch with a grin and began lining up shot glasses on the counter. JJ’s hand cradled the small of your back while John B approached your other side, watching as JJ poured a messy line of contents from the tap across all of the shot glasses.
Every pogue picked one up, preparing to throw them back, when John B took the one from your hand and raised a mischievous brow. “Open up, little loverrr.”
You gave a wide grin before obeying the command, opening up your mouth and sticking out your tongue to prepare for the waterfall of liquor.
John B tossed back his own shot in one fluid motion before pouring the second shot into your mouth. Once the contents were fully polished off you squeezed your eyes shut as an involuntary shiver ran through you, the warmth working  its way down your throat and through your chest.
“You missed some.” John B grabbed your cheeks and yanked you closer, playfully slurping the backsplash from the skin around the corner of your mouth and cheek.
“HEYYY NOW!” JJ gave an energetic clap of his hands before pointing at you and John B. “Save it for the closet!”
You shoved John B away from you with laughter almost as if he were an over-zealous puppy before leaning over to smack JJ’s arm. “Oh please, I know you have your fingers crossed hoping it’s me and you.”
You didn’t interpret the playful action as John B making a move on you despite JJ’s joke. You were all particularly affectionate with each other—and for as affectionate as you were, you also gave each other just as much shit.
“Alright, it’s TIME!” said Kie, grabbing you by the shoulders and steering you in Pope’s direction.  “Pull the name.”
Pope remained on the couch, but now had a ball cap flipped upside down in his hand with jumbled up scraps of paper inside. He grumbled. “I don’t know how I ended up relegated to this role.”
“Because you’re the most trustworthy,” said Kie. “And the least likely to fuck it up.”
“Can’t argue there.” Pope pulled a piece of paper from the cap. “You will be joined by…” he unfurled the paper. “JJ!”
As JJ looked over at you with that arrogant flirty ease, you couldn’t place why you suddenly felt a spike of nerves. Your feet almost felt as if they had forgotten how to work, with Sarah swooping in to usher you toward the closet, JJ not far behind.
Seven minutes in a closet should be nothing compared to all the drunken nights you’d cuddled up on the chateau’s pullout couch together. The party was in full swing, the perfect time to cut loose, and still, you couldn’t fight the soft apprehension prickling at your palms.
The closet in question was unlike anything you’d grown up with, but that was to be expected anytime you partied at a kook house. It was more akin to a closet like Sarah’s, though it wasn’t overflowing with near as much color or fun crop tops as hers.
You looked around at the designer labels and scrunched your nose. “God, why do kooks need such big closets?”
“Yeah, I’m not digging all the space between us.” Without warning, JJ slipped an index finger into the belt loop of your jeans and pulled you closer until you were only inches apart. “Much better, thanks for the cooperation, princess.”
“You’re getting way too much enjoyment out of this, it’s worrying.”
“Afraid I’ll bite?” He clacked his teeth in your face playfully, smirking when he couldn’t make you flinch.
“Biting doesn’t scare me.” You couldn’t help yourself as you pressed in closer to his face, daring him to retaliate. “You’ll have to try harder, Jay.”
He dropped his hold on the belt loop and pressed his hands into you stomach, shoving you against the wall until you back was flush with the surface, caught between the cold of the wall and the warmth of his body.
“How about now, cupcake? Scared?” He paused and lifted a brow, smirk sweeping up his mouth. He leaned closer. “That toe-curling thing you’re feeling is called sexual tension, my friend.”
Said tension between you was palpable, even after he slacked to give you the space back, satisfied with the effect he’d visibly had on you. Words died in your throat. For the first time ever, you were speechless. JJ, on the other hand, seemed perfectly at ease, content to chatter away.
“We had our first kiss in a closet just like this one.” JJ looked delighted by the memory. "You remember?”
”Don’t call it ‘our first kiss’ like we were ever a thing.” Your composure faltered, but it was a fond memory nonetheless. “Shame on me for choosing ‘dare’ over ‘truth’—I thought I’d get to do something cool like scale a flag pole, but no. Got stuck sucking face with you.”
"Okay, ouch,” he feigned offense, clutching his chest. “I've gotten a lot better at kissing since then.”
You rolled your eyes, trying to hide the heat that was creeping up your neck. "Well, we were like thirteen, so I’d really hope so."
JJ leaned in a little closer again. "I've been thinking about that kiss a lot lately, you know.”
Your walls went up, afraid of being vulnerable. He’d played with your feelings one too many times over the years out of boredom. You used to think when he was flirting he meant it, and that had led to too much confusion. Rather than pine over him forever, you’d grown comfortable with your role of best friend.
Anything more—girlfriend, fuck buddy, situationship—would spell nothing but trouble.
You deflected by teasing him. “You’ve been thinking about a bad kiss from middle school? Find better hobbies.”
“That’s the thing—I need to redeem myself,” he said. “You never wonder what it would be like to try it again now that we’re older? More… seasoned?”
“Don’t be dumb.” Your heart skipped a beat, but you tried not to let it show. "This is just a fun party game, not an opportunity for you to get lucky.”
“What does that cute little tattoo on your ass say again?” He snapped his fingers and feigned as if recalling. “Lucky you.”
You made a sputtering noise, floored by the comeback. You’d been in a bikini around the pogues enough times that they’d likely all seen the edge of said tattoo, but he would have had to pay attention to read it.
“God, you are such a shameless flirt!” You picked up a sandal from the closet floor and began smacking him with it. “What is with you tonight? You’re gonna start humping the keg stand before the party is over—“
“I wouldn’t be the man you know and love unless I flirted without remorse.” JJ flinched away from the sandal, laughing at your reaction. "Come on, you have to admit there's chemistry between us."
You felt a jolt of electricity shoot through your body at his words. He was right, but you didn't know what to do about it—so again, you deflected. “You have chemistry with anything that has tits and legs.”
“Nah, it’s different with us,” he insisted. “And I’ll prove it.”
Before you could respond, JJ took a daring step forward, his hand cupping your cheek as his lips met yours in a searing kiss. It was gentle initially, testing the waters to see what you were okay with. As the kiss lingered, JJ took it as a sign to deepen things, the pace growing hungrier between you.
Your initial surprise gave way to something more passionate and explorative. Warmth pooled in your thighs as he tangled him hands in your hair, tongue making sensuous circles with your own. It was a moment suspended in time as your friendship burned away, scorching the earth until it became something uncharted. He awoke dormant feelings in you—emotions for him that you thought you’d long buried came rising to the surface at full force like a geyser.
“Seven minutes is up!” John B’s voice rang out.
You barely had time to fall apart from each other as the door pried open. A gasp tore through your mouth, accompanied by a jolt of surprise. For a brief moment it had only been you and JJ - the party on the other side of the door had completely disappeared to you.
John B leaned against the doorframe, gazing down at the wild blush staining your cheeks. Something like understanding registered in his gaze at the look on your face, but he quickly recovered the cool-guy charm.
“Either you crazy kids come out, or I’m gonna get serious FOMO and have to join.”
“Squeeze in, man, you’ll love it.” JJ leaned his head against your shoulder and smiled, looking completely unaffected by what had happened. “Plenty of room. Too much, honestly.”
You rolled your eyes, not understanding how he could be so jovial and collected as your heart threatened to pump out of your chest.
“No threesomes in this living room, alright, this ain’t a Hugh Hefner party.” said Pope. “Come smoke this blunt and stop being weird.”
As you exited the confines of the closet, which had felt like it’s own world, you couldn't help but wonder what might have happened if you had been in the closet for even a minute longer. Would hands have roamed further? Would JJ have had time to confess he was just fucking around with you, only he took it a bit farther than usual? You didn’t even know what you’d want him to say.
There wasn’t enough time to process what was happening or the repercussions of it—only that in the moment it had felt really, really good being with JJ. Whatever the absolute fuck that was about.
The unspoken tension had found its voice in that kiss, marking the beginning of the end. You didn’t know how you could look him in the eyes again after feeling his hands knotting through your hair. How could a moment change everything?
You avoided JJ for the next several hours, wrapping your mind around what had happened. If the other pogues noticed, they didn’t call you out on it. Not openly, anyway. Kie and John B were not subtle as they gossiped in hushed whispers, glancing between you and JJ at your two different places across the party.
Eventually, the drinks caught up to you. Coping with your alien feelings by attempting to numb them with alcohol hadn’t worked, of course, so now not only were you mentally spiraling but had also come down with a bad case of the spins.
To anchor yourself back to the moment, you slipped away from the party, which was just now starting to teeter off from its full swing, and exited out of the back door of the mansion onto a vacant area of porch.
Salty sea and crisp nighttime air instantly offered reprieve to your racing mind as you walked over to the wooden railing of the porch and leaned against it, reveling in the quiet.
A few minutes later, your quiet was disturbed by the sound of the sliding glass door opening up behind you. You turned to look at who’d followed, heart nearly leaping from your chest at the sight of JJ.
“Hey, you okay out here?” He stuck his head out of the door, quiet concern on his face. You nodded without verbal response. “Is it cool if we talk for a minute?”
You nodded again, feeling a nervous knot forming in your stomach. You didn’t want to imagine what he would say next. Still, you were both here now, and there was no use in prolonging the inevitable. “What's up?”
He closed the door behind himself. Here it comes, you thought. He’s going to confess that he was just teasing you—it meant nothing to him. All one big, meaningless flirt brought on by his name being pulled from a random lottery. If it’d been John B’s name called over JJ’s, JJ may have never looked at you twice otherwise. Not any differently than usual, anyway. Why did that possibility hurt so much?
“About the game…” He approached your side at the porch railing, looking less sure of himself than normal. “I know you’ve been avoiding me.”
Your reply was short. “Astute observation.”
“Don’t do that—don’t shut down.” His eyes cut right through you. “Look, I - I have something to admit.”
You steeled yourself for him to say something that would break you, but you wouldn’t show it. “Don’t leave me in suspense, Jay.”
“I’m sorry if I crossed a line by kissing you before…” There was a pause too long in the air as he contemplated whether or not to say the next words.  “I bribed Pope to make sure he called my name for your turn.”
“You… what?”
“Don’t be mad.” He squeezed his eyes shut as if an admission of guilt physically pained him. After all, his motto had always been ‘deny, deny, deny.’ “It may or may not have been John B’s name on the paper that Pope actually pulled, but I’d slid him a $20 beforehand to make sure no one else got you.”
The uneasiness in your stomach slowly transformed into butterflies, tickling all the way up your throat until it evolved into belly-aching laughter. He wasn’t toying with you because he was bored or because it was convenient. He orchestrated this.
The laughter confused him. “Is that – wait – why are you laughing?”
“Shut the fuck up and kiss me again.”
His features brightened, eyes glowing with a new, consuming adoration. He swept you in closer and brought his mouth down to yours, talking against your lips. “God, I’m so glad you said that. Playing it cool has been driving me crazy.”

I Can See You
TYRANTS || STORY MASTERLIST PAIRING: rafe cameron x fem!reader WARNINGS: MDNI 18+ Content, swearing, sexual content, drug and alcohol use, violence WORD COUNT: 2.7K
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
'Cause I can see you waitin' down the hall from me
And I could see you up against the wall with me
And what would you do, baby, if you only knew?
December
I zipped up my coat before opening my car door, stepping down onto the ground, and scanning the parking lot for a familiar face. It was the first day back at school after Thanksgiving break, it was starting to get chilly in the Outer Banks. I felt a cold breeze against my legs. Even though the temperature was dropping, school uniforms were mandatory, which meant forcing girls to wear skirts for the rest of winter.
First and Second periods go by painstakingly slow, but at least I had Sabrina to pass notes with as time dragged on
How was break? We missed you on blackout wednesday :(
My family takes holidays wayyyy too seriously. I was up late prepping the turkey with my mom and then up early to set the table. My family watches the parade like a bunch of losers
When I pass her back the notes she giggles and gives me a thumbs down.
Kelce was asking where you were
I make a face when I read her note
Why would he be asking about me lmao
I told you their friend group thinks you’re dope as hell. And we’re always together so I guess he assumed you’d come with me
Sorry I couldn’t make it. Was it fun?
I blacked out and called Derek :(
I frowned at her in response
Need details at lunch. Meet me at my car!
She gives me a thumbs up this time and slides the piece of paper between her books as our teacher starts to stroll down the aisle, making sure everyone is taking notes on the assigned reading.
The bell rings and I drag my feet to third period, holding my breath as I walk through the doorway, mentally preparing for the agony I was about to endure for the next 90 minutes.
I take my usual seat on the right side of the room in the third row, right next to the window, and diagonally behind from Rafe at an angle where I can see him, but he can’t see me. He sat ontop of his desk, his blazer hanging over his shoulder as he leaned forward, whispering something into Carissa Whitlock’s ear that makes her giggle and blush. I swallow hard before reaching into my book bag to get my textbook out with our holiday homework placed neatly ontop.
Our teacher walks in, clearing his throat to let us know class was about to start. I watch as Rafe stands up, and brushes Carissa’s hair behind her ear. He swings his blazer around and onto his arms, turning his body to face me. He catches my stare and winks, licking his lips. I blankly stare at him, giving him no reaction to whatever the fuck that just was.
When Rafe takes notes, he juts his tongue out slightly and chews on the inside of his cheek. His leg shakes up and down the entire period, and he adjusts in his seat about every 5 minutes, checks his phone about every other minute, and never has his book open to the right page.
I catch myself watching him more than our teacher, because everything he does is too damn dsitracting. I can practically hear his eyes roll to the back of his head everytime the teacher scratches a piece of chalk on the board, and fumble with the video on the projector, leaving the mouse in the middle of the screen.
He can never figure out how to expand the video to full screen, someone always has to go up and help him. Today, Rafe decided it would be him to volunteer during the technical difficultles. He saunters up the row to the front of the room, taking over the laptop and stays at the front of the class while the video plays.
A smirk displays across his face when I finally make eye contact with him. His back is pressed against the board, his chin slightly tilted up. He swipes his tongue across his bottom lip and chuckles to himself. I force my eyes back to the screen but I have a hard time concentrating as I remember what it was like for his tongue to be pressed against the inside of my thighs.
I cross my legs underneath my desk, and flash my eyes back to Rafe, catching him watching me again. His eyes linger down under my desk, softly raising an eyebrow as I squeeze my legs tightly together. He stands up straight and directs his eyes elsewhere. I turn my attention back to the video and furiously scribble notes, trying to catch up with everything that I had just missed.
Before the video ends, the bell rings dismissing us for lunch. I scramble to get everything into my bag, trying to get out of class as quick as possible to meet Sabrina at my car.
The book I was currently reading slips from my grasp and lands on the ground. Before I can bend over to reach it, Rafe is infront of me picking it up. His hand softly travels up my thigh as he stands up, brushing away when he reaches the hem of my skirt
“Dropped this” he says, handing me my book, with a taunting look in his eyes.
“Thanks” I murmur, shoving it into my backpack, zipping it up and brushing past him out the door.
I feel my cheeks burning and I walk swiftly out the front doors to the parking lot, catching Sabrina already waiting at my car.
“Woah why’s your face all red?” she asks when I finally reach her.
“They had the heat on full blast in class it was a sauna” I lied, unlocking my car.
Sabrina spent the entire lunch period telling me the details of the Wednesday before thanksgiving. It was a kook tradition to throw a rager for blackout Wednesday, and it seems as though the seniors went all out this year. Sabrina explained that she was on the verge of blacking out by 9pm, and had to be force fed water by our group of friends. She tried to trick everyone that she was going to the bathroom but was found on the side of the road trying to get to his house. By the time she got home she had called Derek at least 10 times and texted him multiple paragraphs.
“He wasn’t even in the Outer Banks, he went on the mainland to his grandparents” she said, face in her hands.
“God Sab, this sounds awful.” she sighs and finally peaks up from her hands.
“See this is why I need you by my side at all times.”
I laughed and grabbed her hands away from her face.
“Yea I would’ve thrown your phone into the ocean before I even let you unblock him.”
She gives me a weak smile before the bell rings, disrupting our story time.
The rest of the day drags on, classes filled with the last sections of the semester, passing out study packets for final exams. By the end of the day I had 5 packets and a sample essay to work on in preparation. After the final bell rang I sat on the lawn in the central quad, opening my calendar to sketch out a study timeline for myself to get everything done by Friday. After figuring out a solid plan I pulled out my book and began reading, enjoying the sunshine and cool breeze.
A few pages in I heard footsteps crunching on the grass towards me.
“Aren’t ya cold?” the voice asks. I look up to see Noah, wearing his varsity jacket and a beanie on his head, backpack slung over one shoulder.
“I don’t mind it.” I said plainly, turning my head back to my book.
“Do you need a ride or something?” he asks, taking another step closer.
“No I drove. I just like sitting out here sometimes after everyone leaves. It’s a lot more pleasant when someone isn’t playing music obnoxiously loud from a speaker.” He snorts at my response.
“Thats understandable. Whatcha reading?” he asks, now taking a seat on the grass infront of me plopping his bookbag next to him.
“The Secret History.” I say, placing my bookmark on the page I left off, and closing the book “Do you like to read?”
“Kinda. Mainly history books though.” he says, playing with the grass beneath him.
“Maybe we can recommend each other books. I’ve always wanted to get more into history” I say with a soft smile. He returns a smile back to me and gets out his phone.
“Give me your number, I’ll text you my favorites.” he passes me his unlocked phone and I type in my number, saving it with my first name.
“Didn’t see you out last wednesday.” he says as I pass the phone back.
“Family was in town.” he nods his head in response.
“Did Sabrina tell you we found her on the side of the road?” I sigh and shake my head.
“I feel so bad, she just seems so lost recently. I wish she would get over him.” he lightly chuckles and shakes his head.
“Don’t know about that one. They’ve been doing this back-and-forth thing for like two years now. He loves playing games with her, its gross.” he says with a frustrated tone.
I look up and see dark clouds have now covered the sun, and a whisk of wind blows past us.
“I should probably get home.” I say, grabbing my things and standing up.
“I can walk you to your car, you in the main lot?” he asks, starting to stand. I shake my head yes in response and we walk in silence towards the front. We make it to my car and he awkwardly stands to the side as I open the back door to toss my bag in.
“Well I’ll text you those book recs later.”
“Great, I’ll be looking forward to it.”
“Get home safe.” he says before turning around.
I open the door to my car and notice the group of guys in the back lot - specifically a tall blonde. We make eye contact for a second and I hop into my car. I glance at Rafe again as I turn the ignition on and he has a stern look on his face. He was never one to greet me with smiles, but he looked angry.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a long week of studying, I took friday afternoon to pamper myself. Starting with a treat from the local bakery on my way home, I took an everything shower and got into bed by 7pm ready to binge watch Game of Thrones until I feel asleep. Halfway through the first episode my phone buzzed
Sabrina
Wyd tonight
Binge watching GOT
Isn't this like your fourth time watching that shit
Hehe maybe
I have some wine, can I come over?
Hmmm what kind
2 bottles of sweet red
wow im wet
lol ur a freak. I’ll be there in 20
I like her text and walk upstairs, finding my mom on the couch
“Are you already ready for bed?” she asks, raising an eyebrow and tiliting down her reading glasses.
“I was but I think Sabrina’s gonna come over if thats okay.” I say, rummaging through the pantry for any snacks.
“That’s fine. Your dad and I have dinner plans on the mainland with your sister. Lucy is going to come with us.” she says, going back to her book.
“Wow thanks for the invite,” I huff, grabbing a bag of chips and the half-empty oreo container. My older sister was in her last year at UNC, and my parents were obsessed with finding any reason to go visit her. Lucy, my younger sister who was a freshman this year at Kildare, adores Kinsey, so I wasn’t shocked that she would want to join too. I was slightly offended that they didn’t invite me, but I probably would’ve said no anyways.
“Well you’ve been cooped up in your room all week studying I thought you would have plans to go out tonight.” she says, not looking up. “I’ll leave you money for a pizza.”
“Thanks” I respond shortly before opening the basement door and closing it behind me.
10 Minutes later Sabrina shows up at the side door with a bookbag clinking loudly behind her.
“You are so lucky to have this access holy shit how are you not sneaking guys in here everynight.” putting her bag down she opens it up to reveal the bottles of wine and some plastic cups.
I chuckle in response, grabbing one of the bottles and unscrewing the top, filling the cups all the way.
“That’s the exact reason why I got this room in middle school. My sister Kinsey had it first but got caught her junior year sneaking her boyfriend in. It was so bad. She had just gotten her lacrosse scholarship to UNC and my parents were terrified she was going to get pregant and ruin her life.”
“Thats iconic.” Sabrina says, chugging her wine.  “Sooo Topper told me you were hanging with Noah this week.”
My eyes widen. “Jesus, do I have security following my every move?” I ask, opening the bag of chips. “He walked me to my car Monday, and we studied together in the library on Thursday because we have the same calculus exam next week. How did you even find that out from Topper of all people.”
“You know how they are. They’ll find anyone to gossip about, they’re worse than us. ‘Parently he likes you.” I blush in response to this accusation.
“We’re just friends.” I state, offering her the bag. She takes it from my hands and munches on a few.
“We’ll see” she says, wiggling her eyebrows. I roll my eyes and finish my cup, pouring more wine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We make our way to my back patio, bundled up in hoodies and sweatpants, covered with a blanket, sitting by the fire.
“Promise me you’re not going to talk to Derek ever again.” I say, feeling my words start to slur as we near the end of the second bottle.
“I promise. I’m so done with that douchebag. This time next year we’ll be at college and I’ll have met so many better people, I hope I forget about him.”
I clink my cup against hers. “Thats the spirit.”
I grab my small box out from under me and begin to roll up a joint. Music from my speaker fills the silence as Sabrina stares out at the water.
Once I’m done rolling I light it with my purple lighter, inhaling and closing my eyes, leaning my head back before exhaling. I pass it to Sabrina. We go back and forth a few times, enjoying each other's company before her phone rings. I raise an eyebrow and she shows me the caller ID. It’s Topper. I ash the joint and scoot closer as she presses accept.
“Yo where you at Sab?” he shouts into the phone. She puts him on speaker phone and I turn down the music.
“Partying without you.” she slurs.
“Where?” he asks again. I hear male voices in the background and shake my head, begging her to not tell him she’s at my house.
“None of your business. Who’re you with?”
“Kelce and Rafe. The party at Carissa’s just got busted.”
“That’s a shame. Heard it was gonna be a lame party anyways.”
“Yea, is that why you and Y/N skipped out on coming?” he taunts.
“We had better plans.” she responds, trying to hide her giggles in her sleeve.
“Why don’t you let us swing by your better plans then?”
Her eyes flash towards mine and I groan. “Do they have booze?” I whisper.
“Yes we have booze Y/N” Topper responds. I hide my face in my blanket as if he could see me, embarrassed that I had gotten caught. “Are you at her house?” Sabrina goes silent, looking at me with eyes practically screaming at me with what we should say. “I’ll take that as a yes.” I sigh and sit up.
“We’re in the back. And it better just be you three or else.” I threaten in the phone.
“We’ll be there in 5.” he hangs up the phone and I stare at Sabrina.
She makes a pouty face at me and I let my eyes soften at her.
“If they ruin the vibe it's your fault.”

Who? JJ Maybank x Tattooed (f) Reader
| Warnings: mentions of abuse, swearing, over protective JJ (mildly), alternative reader
| Summary: JJ noticed your medusa tattoo for the first time. All characters are in their 20s in this
| (a/n): I don't know how I feel about this ending. But I hope y'all enjoy!
Tumblr media
You weren't like the others on Kildare Island. Technically you were a kook like Kie, but also like Kie you were a pouge through and through. Your dad was ex military and now worked for the local prison while your mom owned the only tattoo shop in the county. Due to this, your family tended to stand out which also meant you lacked in the friends department. That was until you met Kiara.
You and Kie had been inseparable since you met at the kook academy your freshman year. Neither of you wanted to be there but were forced by your mothers to attend. For her 16th birthday present, the two of you even got matching dolphin tattoos. Then when Sarah came along it became the three of you.
This led you to now. You were a 23 year old bartender at The Wreck, Kie's family restaurant, and the two of you had just gotten off shift. Running to the back you threw on your black "I <3 Hot Dads" hoodie, jean shorts, and red high top vans before throwing your messy, curly hair up into a bun. "Hey (y/n), are you ready?" your best friend yelled from the doorway.
"Yeah I'm coming!" grabbing your backpack, you followed her out. You had plans to meet the boys at the beach for a bonfire tonight after work. You had only met them a few times, and all of said times a certain blonde had caught your attention. Getting in the car you got settled but Kie didn't stop staring. "Can I help you?" you laughed.
"Oh no. Just wondering if you were gonna spend the whole night drooling over JJ again and not make a move like last time," she shrugged. Rolling your eyes you told her to just go.
Grabbing the beer out of the back, the two of you made your way towards the beach. "Hey girlies!" the familiar voice of Sarah Cameron rang out. "We were beginning to wonder when the two of you were showing up!"
"Blame the one who had to get ready before we came here," Kiara side eyed you before all three of you began to laugh.
"Listen! Is it a crime to want to look half way decent for my two besties other friends? I mean gotta make a good impression right?" you continued laughing.
"Yeah right. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that JJ is here tonight," Sarah teased you causing you to lightly hit her in the arm as the three of you headed down to the sand. After reaching the firepit you got settled onto the soft sand sitting crisscross applesauce. "Where's Pope?"
"He had homework for his fancy college program," the blonde boy you had been looking forward to seeing all night responded as he sat down next to you and handed you a beer. Nodding your head you took a swig out of the bottle you had been handed. The other three in the group were busy talking about something Sarah's brother did when JJ leaned over and broke the silence between the two of you. "Don't take this the wrong way, but you don't look like anyone I've ever seen around here." You gave him a funny look before he quickly added, "Like it's a good thing! It's cute! Just very different!"
A blush formed on your freckled cheeks, "Thank you...I Think." He was right though. You had long curly black hair with tiny bits of green throughout, both sides of your nose pierced along with your septum, and both ears pierced all the way up. Not to mention the tattoos. Yet you still had a sweetness or "innocence" to you.
"You're welcome!" he smiled proudly to himself for causing the pink tinge. "Now tell me about your tattoos!"
"Well what do you wanna know?" You inquired. The two of you being so wrapped up in your own conversation to realize the other three had left you two alone.
"Well for starters, how many do you have?" genuine curiosity was shown on his face. You fascinated him. "I mean I can see you have your traditional patchwork leg done here, but do you have any more?"
"Well," you began. "I have my leg sleeve (of course), then I also have a full arm sleeve, and one down my side. And then a secret one that matches Sarah and Kie's." you smirked before beginning to giggle when he looked astonished.
"We are gonna circle back to the mystery tattoos later!" the blonde boy exclaimed. "But can I see your sleeve?" You nodded with a hint of reluctance only because of one tattoo. You took off your hoodie so you were only in your tank top. JJ began examining all of the colorful pieces you had but quickly stopped when he saw the medusa adorning your upper arm. His face went from curious and playful to stern. "Who?"
"It's really not important," fixated on the fire you really were hoping to not have this conversation yet. You were always cold but the hoodies also helped keep that hidden.
"You can talk to me," his blue eyes softened. He didn't want to push you but wanted to at least offer. "My dad...he used to beat the shit out of me. I used to blame myself. Would convince myself that I deserved it somehow. My fiends helped snap me out of that."
The two of you sat there in silence for several minutes before you brought yourself to open up, "It was my ex. He had a hard time taking no for an answer." JJ didn't say anything but just let you confide in him. "But before that, I went through something similar to you. My dad was an angry guy. I remember showing up to school with black eyes and having to have my friends cover for me. Then when I was 16, things got particularly bad. He slapped me so hard I fell down and he stormed out. Said 'He should have left me and my bitch of a mom a long time ago'...he came back the next morning in tears and never laid a hand on me since. So then when my ex did what he did, it just brought out suppressed memories."
JJ immediately brought you into a hug while wiping a tear off your cheek, "I am so sorry." You looked up into his beautiful baby blue eyes when the two of you leaned in. He kissed you so gently and tasted so sweet you thought you were in heaven. That was until he whispered onto your lips "So what are these secret tattoos the three of you girls share?" Laughing you buried your face into his chest.
"It's so embarrassing," you blushed as he started to chuckle right when the other three showed back up from what looked like swimming. "Oh! Just in time! (y/n) here was just about to enlighten me on these secret tattoos of yours!"
"Don't do it!" and "She was not!" were said in unison by other two.
"Come on guys we should tell them," you smiled and you all three agreed. "Ok, so just know the three of this did this to celebrate graduating high school. We were young and dumb."
"Oh this is gonna be good," John B mumbled.
"We all have a different fruit," Sarah continued.
"On each of our asses," Kiara finished. The two boys burst out laughing.
"Are you being for real?" John B asked. "I mean I knew about yours Sarah, but all three of you?" he couldn't hold back the laughter anymore.
JJ leaned over and whispered just to you, "I can't wait to see what yours is." Causing you to once again turn bright red. You knew you were in trouble with this boy when he just smirked down and kissed you again saying, "You're too damn cute when you blush like that."

Sweet Dreams
masterlist ! pairing: John B x reader
Summary : John B wakes up next to the love of his life.
Outer Banks Masterlist
Tumblr media
John B yawned, rubbing his eyes as he crawled into bed beside Y/n, his heart skipping a beat at the sight of her peaceful face. Moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow on her features. He couldn't help but smile as he reached out to brush a strand of hair away from her face.
Y/n stirred slightly, a contented sigh escaping her lips as she snuggled closer to him. "Hey," she murmured sleepily, her voice thick with drowsiness.
"Hey," John B whispered back, his fingers tracing patterns on her arm. "Sorry, didn't mean to wake you."
Y/n blinked sleepily, her eyes fluttering open to meet his gaze. "It's okay," she said with a small smile. "I'm glad you're here."
John B's heart swelled with warmth at her words. "Me too," he admitted, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to her forehead. "I love you, Y/n."
Y/n's smile widened, her eyes shining with affection. "I love you too, John B," she replied softly, her hand finding his beneath the blankets.
They lay there in comfortable silence for a moment, simply reveling in each other's presence. The stresses of the day melted away as they basked in the warmth of their love.
"You know," Y/n said suddenly, breaking the quiet, "I've been thinking."
John B raised an eyebrow, curious. "About what?"
Y/n hesitated for a moment, chewing on her bottom lip. "About us," she confessed. "About our future."
John B's heart skipped a beat at her words, a rush of excitement flooding through him. "What about our future?" he asked eagerly.
Y/n shifted to face him, her eyes meeting his with determination. "I want us to be together forever, John B," she said earnestly. "I want to wake up next to you every morning, and fall asleep in your arms every night."
John B felt a lump form in his throat at her heartfelt words. He reached out to cup her cheek, his thumb brushing across her skin tenderly. "I want that too, Y/n," he said softly. "More than anything."
Y/n smiled, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "Promise me," she whispered. "Promise me that no matter what happens, we'll always find our way back to each other."
John B's heart swelled with emotion as he gazed into her eyes, seeing all the love and trust reflected back at him. "I promise," he vowed, his voice barely more than a whisper. "I'll always find my way back to you, Y/n. Always."
Tears welled up in Y/n's eyes as she threw her arms around him, holding him close as if she never wanted to let him go. "I love you so much, John B," she breathed, her voice choked with emotion.
"I love you too, Y/n," John B murmured, his own voice thick with tears. He held her tightly, savoring the feeling of her in his arms, knowing that as long as they had each other, they could weather any storm.
And as they drifted off to sleep, wrapped in each other's embrace, they knew that no matter what the future held, as long as they were together, they could conquer anything that came their way. For they were not just two souls entwined, but two hearts beating as one, united in a love that was destined to last a lifetime.

Wednesday, June 17th
6:40 pm
THE POGUES DECIDED TO GO FOR A BOAT RIDE hoping to cure their boredom on this hot summer day. 4 of the teenagers decided to test the cool waters , swimming , surfing and fishing.
As the daylight eventually ended and the sun was beginning to set, they all made their way to Twinkie , John b’s van and as fate would have it , it appeared to be broken down in some way.
“man why is it making that weird ass sound?” questions Jj as he keeps trying to turn on the ignition but fails each time.
“you think i know? probably busted somewhere” john b replies looking around for any signs of why the Twinkie wont start.
the van finally starts but it continues making a weird noise , scaring the group into thinking it wont last much longer.
Pope cant take waiting any longer “call AAA or something, if we die in that deathtrap im suing you” Kiara nods in agreement with him.
John B rolls his eyes at his friends antics and pulls out his cellphone “yeah yeah i got something better than AAA”
the three other Pogues share glances in confusion wondering who he’s calling other than car service.
After a few moments talking on the phone with much annoyance from Jj getting close in an attempt to hear , he finally ends the call.
“alright lets head down” he says getting in the drivers seat. “to?” Kiara questions
“Y/n , shes in town and working today. Said she’ll take a look” , Pope and Kiara eyes nearly pop out of their skulls , no idea of John Bs older sister being in town since you travelled for studies and job opportunities a lot.
Jj on the other hand is stunned a little , he remembers you very clearly yet its been years since seeing you.
You were a year older than John B and Jj always had a huge crush on you as a kid.
He even remembers that stupid promise you made him when he was 9 and you were 10. If you weren’t married by 25 , you would marry Jj.
To you it might have seemed like an fun empty promise made to a kid to keep him happy but to Jj? He still held onto that all these years.
every girl he was with , he refused to let it go farther than a hookup because he wanted nothing more than to be with his longtime crush.
Jj finally snapped out of his trance as John B calls his name for the 5th time , making him realize they all already got into the van while he was reminiscing.
He was anxious the whole ride to the mechanic shop , wondering if you’d even remember him let alone his massive crush on you.
The group finally makes their way towards the shop with no one working to be seen. John B calls out your name repeatedly while looking around.
Finally Kiara nudges him to catch his attention on the pair of legs that’s underneath a car. “N/n? that you?” the younger Routledge calls out.
You slide from underneath the car the you were working on , standing up and wiping the oil off of your hands with a rag.
You looked different, you had obviously matured physically and likely mentally.
Obviously you would look different from when you guys were kids , you looked beyond beautiful now.
Jjs eyes were stuck on your figure as you pull john b into a tight hug , giving him a ear pull to tease him while your at it.
oil smeared on your face , your mechanic overalls opened from the top half to drape down the bottom half showing a black halter bikini top that also revealed a belly button piercing , paired with black combat boots.
Your eyes averted to your younger brothers friends recognizing them from whenever you came to visit.
Pope and Kiara basically threw themselves towards you as its been years since they’ve seen you.
You then lastly notice the tall muscular blonde boy with his hat flipped backwards to be quite familiar, staring at you.
You knew exactly who this was.
“is that who i think it is?” you say in a teasing tone , pointing at Jj with a smirk on your face.
“yes its your future husband.” is what Jj swore was gonna come out of his mouth but instead he continued to stare at you , eyes wide.
“oh cmon J, dont tell me you don’t remember me” you asked with a dramatic tone underlying your words. Jj and his friends knew for a FACT he was making an absolute fool of himself right now.
You were always attractive to him but seeing you so… badass made you 10x hotter
He needed to say something in response to you right now or else he’d continue embarrassing himself.
“Y/n?” he questions half heartily as if it wasn’t the most obvious thing ever.
“well i was hoping you’d say the better sibling but that works too” you say causing John B to push your shoulder slightly and earned chuckles from Pope and Kiara.
The silence that follows was deafening , making you all stand there awkwardly as Jj continued to stare at you. His friends were beyond surprised to see Jj of all people be so stunned of a girl.
“so uh you said Twinkie broke down?” you say filling the silence
“yeah keeps making this weird noise , no clue whats going on” your younger brother replies
you grab your tools and slide under John b’s van , tinkering the car while the Pogues wait around.
The four start whisper arguing in hopes of you not hearing:
“what the hell was that??”
“yeah Jj man why are you acting so weird around her?”
“i don- i dont know! i just couldn’t speak alright! i think i have like hemorrhoids!”
“Jj i dont think you know what hemorrhoids are”
“alright spill. whats going on with you and Mrs Routledge over there?”
“its Miss* Routledge actually. Jeez you guys make it sound like im supposed to be having my third child by now when im only a year older” you say from under the van , butting into their not so secret conversation leaving the whole group to stare at Jj who’s gone red in the face.
They decide to stay silent for the rest of the time so Jj doesn’t pop a blood vessel out of embarrassment anytime soon.
around half an hour later , you come out from under the van and wipe your hands again , telling john b to turn on the ignition. It turns on with no apparent problem and hums like a brand new vehicle.
The pogues cheer loudly in victory , you start cleaning up as your shift was coming to an end anyways. The pogues eye each other as you turn your back , all wanting to spend more time with you.
“uh n/n?” calls out Jj as the rest nudge him to talk making you look up at the rest of them , all with puppy like eyes that made you guess they were gonna beg you for something.
“we were uh- gonna go crash a party , yo- you wanna come along?” he says stumbling on his words a little
he was so cute when he was nervous.
you had a feeling none of them were gonna let this go. You sigh in defeat and agree , making them cheer that John b’s “cool ass sister” as they described was coming along.
At the beach party
It had been around an hour since you all arrived, drinking , dancing , smoking weed and hanging out was the main thing you all did.
Jj still hadn’t really held a proper conversation with you , every-time he tried you were catching up with someone else or he’d just get cold feet and chicken out.
He sighed as he sat down to take a smoke on his own by a tree , unaware of your presence above him.
“didn’t know you smoked, y’know its bad for you right” you uttered catching his attention while pulling out a cigarette of your own.
at first he’s stunned that you spoke to him first but figured this was his chance. “whats that then?” he says eyeing the cigarette in your mouth as you lit it
“dont question your elders” blowing out a puff of smoke from your mouth
he laughs “okay granny did you forget that its only by a year” , “still older than ya hon”.
A sound of tranquility fills the air as you two continue smoking , the cold breeze hitting your faces as the party behind you continues.
“im sorry” Jj says sombrely breaking the silence while avoiding eye contact
“for?”
“making things so awkward back there, i was just surprised to see you”
“dont sweat it J , its been a while so i get it. im just glad you remembered me”
“you are?” the blonde boy says facing you now curiously
“i mean yeah , you always were my favourite out of my brothers friends J” you say taking a hit on your cigarette
Jj’s heart sinks a little , right thats all you saw him as , your younger brothers friend.
you take his silence as an odd response, pressing him for more. “what? whats wrong?” you ask
in a bitter quiet tone he mutters “nothin.”
“dont give me that , what did i say?”
“Why cant you see me more than that! why cant you see me!” he outbursts in a much louder tone attracting some glances from people while he stands up
“what are you talking about??” you ask mimicking his stance while putting out your cigarette.
he closes his eyes out of frustration for a second and takes his cap off , running his hands through his blonde shaggy hair.
“im talking about how you don’t remember me liking you , no y’know what loving you!” he spits out in an angry manner
“what? Jj we were kids! why would your crush from years ago matter now!”
“Damn it cause its not from years ago! i still have one. i haven’t forgotten about you at all and you dont even notice me.” he gets in close to you
you stay silent as he attempts to walk away but you grab his shoulder , pulling him back.
“sit.” he obeys defeatedly after hearing the sterness in your tone.
“admit it. its been a while since we’ve been kids and you ARE my brothers best-friend. You really still have feelings for me?”
Jj nods in response as if its the only thing he’s sure of , staring into your eyes.
“then… okay.” He tilts his head slightly confused , you put your hand for him to shake.
“im Y/n Routledge, you’re Jj right?” you grin
He smiles and shakes your hand. This meant a new beginning , a way to start over.
“does this make you a cougar?” he says making you laugh out loud , “dunno how many times i have to say it , im only a year older”
“yes ma’am” he responds making you shove his shoulder causing him to laugh now
The sound of commotion from the beach makes you revert your attention there , everyone was gathering around a fight.
you both stand up and make your way to watch it , you became worried as Kiara , Pope and Sarah Cameron were all screaming.
John B was getting his ass beat by Topper. You wanted to get involved but Jj beat you to it.
He yanked topper by the shirt and punched him, causing him to let go of John B. Kiara and pope running to help him up.
As he was going to throw another punch at the Kook , you grabbed his arm with the intention of not wanting anything bigger to start. “Jj he’s not worth it. lets get out of here”
seeing the look on your face and the rest of the Pogues , he lowered his guard and turned away from Topper as you all walked away.
“Thats right Maybank! should listen to her , dont wanna follow in your Old mans footsteps!”
Crack!
the sound of your fist hits toppers big ass mouth causing blood to gush out.
Everyone stares at you wide eyed. Everyone.
You walk away pissed off and hand bloodied. Jj clearly fighting back a smile “thought he wasn’t worth it?”
“yeah but you are.”

soft knuckles
───────────────────────────────────
pairing ; jj maybank x reader
summary ; jj got into another fight, no surprise, and the first person he goes to is you.
warning : reference to blood, lowercase writing, cursing.
note! i am so excited for the next season, i miss them so much. i haven't posted in a while but i miss writing so, super short blurb!! 😁
Tumblr media
you were reading in your room, enjoying the moment of silence when you heard a knock on the window by your balcony. abruptly looking up, being shocked by the sudden noise you see the familiar boy with messy blond hair.
you walk your way to the window, gasping at the sight. jj had a busted lip, a gash on his brow, and very purple and bloody knuckles.
"holy shit, jj!" you grabbed his face to inspect the damage, and he has the audacity to smirk.
"relax babe. believe me, he looks worse." he gloats, looking in your eyes with his blue ones. your gaze softens, but you don't hold back the slightly playful roll of your eyes.
you gently slapped his arm and brought him inside, dragging him to the bed. "you really have the nerve to be joking when your face is all bloody, huh?"
"of course, princess." he replies, still sporting the tough guy smirk. you set your emergency kit by the bed and prepared what you need. jj was sat down on the edge of your bed, while you stood up to disinfect the gash on his brow.
"this will sting, love." you warn him, as you dabbed the cotton on his face.
his jaw locks, not wanting to move too much so he doesn't bother you. yet his arms found its way through your hips, pulling you closer in between him.
you fought the butterflies in your stomach as much as you could, he still knew the way to get you.
after you fixed up his wounds, you brushed your fingers through his hair
"stop getting into fights so much, j." you said, hugging him.
he looks up, and his eyes just look so goddamn beautiful.
"i'll try, princess. can we go to sleep now?" he said, as he rested his head on your chest, listening to your slow breathing and your heartbeat.
you both know it's a miracle if he stops getting into fights, but he'll always have you to run to.

Request for John b: reader finds out she is pregnant and is scared to tell John b because they are still teenagers.
tides of change
thank you for the request! i hope this was okay!
tears welled up in your eyes as you stared at the pregnancy test resting on the bathroom counter.
positive.
the word seemed to echo in your mind. you had been feeling unusually tired, battling waves of morning sickness for the past week. so, you took the test just in case, never truly expecting it to confirm your worst fears.
this changes everything.
you collapsed onto the cold tile floor, consumed by a whirlwind of emotions. fear, uncertainty, and a sense of overwhelming responsibility washed over you. you and john b were just teenagers, you havent even graduated high school, and now this unexpected change is going to alter your lives completely.
sobs racked your body as you realised what this would mean.
how were you going to tell john b? how would he react? would he even want to be a part of this?
but amidst the chaos of your thoughts, a small voice whispered a glimmer of hope. maybe, just maybe, this could be the start of something beautiful, the start of a family and a life with the boy you loved most.
with a shaky breath, you pulled yourself up from the bathroom floor, wiping away the tears that stained your cheeks. you had plans to meet john b at the chateau later today, as he wanted to go on a beach day. despite the turmoil raging within you, you knew you had to face him, to share this together.
summoning every ounce of strength you had left, you gathered yourself and began to get dressed, preparing yourself for the difficult conversation that awaited you at john b's house.
when you reached john b's house, he was already sat in the driving seat of the pogue, waiting for you.
"what took you so long babe?"
"just slept in sorry baby"
you felt bad about lying to him, but you just werent ready to break the news, it wasnt the right time.
once you reached the beach, john b took your hand and pulled you onto the shore as you both undressed, a light blue bikini top paired with beach shorts adorning your body, while he was shirtless with board shorts on.
as you stepped out into the sunlight, uncertainty loomed on the horizon, but deep down, you knew that whatever the future held, you and john b would face it together.
the salty breeze carried whispers of change as john b and you stood on the windswept beach, your laughter mingling with the crash of the waves. summer stretched out before you, a canvas of endless possibilities.
you fidgeted with the hem of your shirt, your gaze fixed on the horizon. your stomach tied in knots with a secret you couldn't bear to keep any longer. with a deep breath, you turned to face john b, the words heavy on your tongue.
"john b, we need to talk," you said, your voice barely above a whisper.
john b's easy grin faltered as he sensed the gravity of your tone. "what's up?"
"i... i don't know how to say this," you began, your heart pounding in your chest.
"i- ive been feeling tired and ive had morning sickness for the last 5 days so.."
john b softly took your shaking hand in his in an attempt to calm your nerves.
"i took a test this morning, and... and i found out that i'm pregnant."
silence stretched between the two of you, the crash of the waves echoing in the stillness. john b's expression shifted from confusion to shock, then to a whirlwind of emotions you couldn't decipher.
"pregnant?" he repeated, his voice barely a whisper.
you nodded, tears welling in your eyes. "i'm scared, john b. we're just teenagers, and... and i don't know what to do."
without a word, john b closed the distance between the two of you, his arms enveloping you in a tender embrace. he held you close, his touch a comforting anchor amidst the storm raging within you.
"hey, hey, it's gonna be okay," he murmured, his breath warm against your ear. "i'm here for you baby. we'll figure this out together, i promise."
you shifted your head to look up at him, desperately trying to read his facial expression.
was he sad? did he regret it?
instead, you saw a smile beginning to form on his face.
"im going to be a dad" he stated
"i love you so much baby, im so lucky that you will be the mother of my kids- if you choose to keep the baby i mean, its all up to you my love"
he looked down at you with a wide smile plastered on his face
"plus you'll look hot as fuck in maternity clothes"
you giggle and lean into him, catching his lips in yours.
feeling the steady beat of his heart against your chest, you leaned into his embrace, your fears momentarily forgotten in the safety of his arms.
as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the beach, john b pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead, his lips lingering against your skin with a tenderness that spoke volumes. amidst the uncertainty of your future, you found comfort in the unspoken promise of a love strong enough to weather any storm.

Sandy knees; Sarah Cameron
Sarah Cameron x fem!reader
Summary: against Kiara's warnings, a certain pogue can't keep her hands off the kook princess
Warning: smut, oral sex, language
Word count: 834
Tumblr media
“You are fucking Sarah Cameron?!” Kie asked her friend, truly shocked about what she had just seen.
“No!” The girl said, but the look on her friend’s face told her Kie was not convinced, “technically she is fucking me, but-,” the girl was interrupted by her friend.
“Are you kidding me? We hate her!” The Carrera girl pointed out.
“You hate her. And please, if you tell me that when you guys were best friends she didn’t slip her hand down your panties at least once, I will leave with you right now,” the girl looked in between Kie and Sarah, who was far from the two friends, so they could have some privacy. The look on Kie’s face gave everything away, “I knew it!”
“It was just like, once or twice. And that was before we hated her,” the curly haired girl told her friend.
“Kie, I love you, and I would fucking kill for you. But the girl’s fingers are amazing,” the long haired girl said before running away from her friend towards the blonde that was waiting for her with her back against a tree.
“It’s a fucking bonfire!” Kie shouted, trying to reason with her friend, but she was already long gone.
“Is the hookup police finally leaving us alone?” The blonde smiled as she approached.
“I will deal with her tomorrow,” she said, getting closer to Sarah’s face. “Now where were we?” She asked, giving Sarah a peck on the lips.
The blonde smirked, pulling the girl into another kiss, “I believe you were about to get on your knees.”
The girl pulled Sarah into another heated kiss, her hands went under Sarah’s dress, straight to her ass, but as the girl cupped the blonde’s ass cheeks in hope of pulling her underwear down, she was surprised by the feeling of bare skin against her hands.
“Kie took too long,” the Cameron girl said, slipping her lacy pink underwear into the front pocket of her lover’s jean shorts.
The girl kneeled slowly, “she did,” she smirked, before putting her head under the blonde’s pink dress, coming face to face with Sarah’s soaked core.
Sarah’s hands went to the girl’s hair as she started licking her core. The blonde threw her head back, closing her eyes, moaning as loud as she could. Sarah felt her left leg being lifted over the girl’s shoulder, moaning as another wave of pleasure hit her as the girl’s tongue found new places to explore with the new access she had just gained.
The pogue was a giver, it gave her just as much pleasure to hear Sarah’s moans as if the girl was between her legs herself. While one of her hands started to assist her tongue in Sarah’s core, the other climbed up to Sarah’s breasts.
As she reaches the girl’s breast, the girl pulls her head from under Sarah’s dress, giggling as she looks into the gorgeous brown eyes of Sarah Cameron.
“Someone came prepared,” she mentioned Sarah’s lack of bra on.
“You don’t have a bra on,” the Cameron girl mentioned towards her nippled peeking through her white tank top.
The girl got back on her feet, looking into Sarah’s eyes, “I never wear a bra,” she pointed out, making Sarah giggle.
“So you are always prepared?” The blonde said, pulling the white tank down, and exposing her partner's breast.
“We are not fucking in the boneyard,” the pogue pointed out, kneeling again.
“So what are we doing right now?” Sarah looked down into the girl’s bright eyes, was almost under her flowery dress again.
“I’m eating you out,” the girl sang from under the dress.
The silence between them was quickly filled with Sarah’s moans. The blonde was not worried about how loud she was, they were at the end of the boneyard, and the place where everyone came to hookup, and if the distance wasn’t enough, the loud music should do.
Sarah could feel herself getting closer and closer, she was sure that was what heaven felt like. The pogue’s tongue worked wonders inside of her, reaching places undiscovered before, and the places her tongue couldn’t work on, her two fingers made up for.
As Sarah moaned louder, cumming harder than ever before. The pogue licked and kissed Sarah’s wet folds, ridding her down from her high. The Cameron girl panted as her lover got back to her feet, staring at Sarah’s face.
“You good?” The girl joked as Sarah looked like she was high.
The blonde pulled her lover into a passionate kiss, her hands went to the girl’s ass, grabbing it roughly, and pulling her jean shorts up.
“Were you serious about not fucking into the boneyard?” Sarah smiled.
“I mean…,” the girl pulled away, but her hands went to Sarah’s naked ass under the dress, “we could go to the chateau. Steal John B’s room before he gets home,” the pogue suggested.
“Let’s go,” the Cameron girl giggled, pulling her lover in the direction of the chateau.

I got you all figured out
You need everyone's eyes just to feel seen
Behind your make up nobody knows who you even are
Who do you think that you are
August
“YOU’VE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME RIGHT?” I Shout back at my mother as she stands across the kitchen island from me, my dad right next to her. We were in the midst of the biggest argument we have ever had. They were telling me I couldn’t associate with the pogues anymore.
“Hanging with those kids is going to ruin your future! You almost got arrested this summer because of them and their shenanigans. We’ve talked to Kiara’s parents and they’re doing the same thing. You guys are bright girls - we can’t believe Ward lets Sarah runa round with those fools.” my dad responds.
I furiously pace the kitchen floor, running my hands up and down my sides.
“Those fools are my friends dad, you can’t just tell me who I can and can’t be friends with.” I say, choking on a sob forming in my throat.
“This is for your own good. You need to start getting on good terms with these kids, keep your grades up and get into a good school.” my mom says quietly, trying to calm me down.
“YEA, LIKE THEY GIVE A FUCK ABOUT ME. THEY ALL HATE ME AND ALWAYS HAVE, WHY DO YOU THINK I BECAME FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ISLAND IN THE FIRST PLACE” I scream back, hot tears pouring down my face.
“If you don’t stop seeing them, we’re taking your car keys and cutting off your allowance.”
I scoff at this response from my father.
“Yea like those things matter. I still have a bike and I can get a job.” I retort.
“We won’t support you through college.” my mother says firmly. I stand still, tears dripping from my chin onto my shirt.
“What?” I ask meekly.
“You heard me. If you keep this up, we won’t help you with anything.” she responds. I stare at her blankly.
“You wouldn’t” I whisper.
“We’re being serious Y/N. You need to get your head on straight and stay on this side of the island.”
My mind runs a mile a minute, thinking of how difficult it would be to attend any of my dream colleges without their support. A sob escapes my mouth and I look up at them.
“You’re really threatening me right now?” I ask, holding myself with my arms, leaning on the kitchen counter for support.
“You have a future ahead of you. Those kids don’t.” my father states.
“You don’t know that!” I shout back.
“Listen, our decision is final. And you can’t try anything because we had a tracker installed on your phone.”
“You have WHAT”
I run to the living room to grab my purse and shoes, shoving them on my feet.
“Where are you going?”my mother shouts at me, moving to the living room with my dad.
“‘m going to Sarahs. You said I can’t hang with Pogue’s. She’s not a Pogue.” I respond back, sniffling.
“She might as well be one” my dad whispers under his breath. My mom walks closer to me, resting a hand on my arm. I jerk myself away from her, wiping the tears from my chin.
“She’s one of my best friends. You can’t take her away from me.” I choke out.
“We just want the best for you.” she says softly. I roll my eyes and open the front door. When I get into my car I pull out my phone to text Sarah that I was on my way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I park my car in the Tannyhill driveway, storming through the front door, tears pouring from my eyes. Rafe immediately stands up from the couch, staring at me as I kick my shoes off.
“Woah woah woah what’s goin on.” he asks, slowly walking towards me.
“Nothin, is-is Sarah home?” I choke out, pressing my hands into my face to cover it from Rafe.
“Well you’re obviously upset. What happened? JJ fuck with you again.”
“Jesus Christ Rafe, NO!” I Shout at him, breaking down into tears again.
“Look ‘m just trying to figure out what the hell is goin on with you. You storm into my house lookin a fuckin mess cryin and shit I deserve to know what’s going on. Don’t want you bringin any trouble round here.”
“Fuck you where’s Sarah.” I ask. He sighs and shouts up the stairs “SARAH”
I stand there, crying into my eyes as he stands awkwardly infront of me.
“Yea?” she asks from above the bannister.
“Oh my god Y/N whats wrong?” she asks before running down the stairs.
“My-my parents they-they” I choke on a sob, and she finally reaches the bottom of the stairs to hold me. Rafe walks away to the couch, eyes staying on me. I look up to reach Sarah’s eyes.
“They told me I can’t hand with the guys anymore. They’re too much trouble and they’ll take away everything from me if I keep hanging with them. They said they wouldn’t help me with college.”
She furrows her eyebrows and hugs me close.
“God I’m so sorry Y/N”
“It’s for your own good” Rafe pipes up from the couch. Sarah shoots him a death glare and he shurgs.
“Been tryna tell you girls they’re bad news. “ he responds before pulling out his phone. “Bout time they put their foot down.”
“God would you shut up.” I respond, staring at him from across the room. He looks up from his phone, shocked at my response.
“C’mon lets go upstairs.” Sarah holds my hand as we go up the stairs. She pulls out her phone to text our groupchat, telling everyone to meet at her house for an emergency.
“Its the last weekend of the summer, why the hell are we on Figure Eight” I hear JJ complaining to the group as the head up the stairs before entering Sarah’s room. I laid across her bed, blowing my nose into a tissue when they finally open the door.
“Oh Y/N” Kiara says softly before climbing on the bed, resting a hand on my thigh.
“Her parent’s wont let her hang with the guys anymore on the cut. They gotta tracker on her and everything.” Sarah tells the group.
“They gotta WHAT?” JJ exclaims. “That’s gotta be illegal or somethin.”
“You’re not gonna listen to em right?” Pope asks, sitting on the edge of the bed. I sniffle and look around the group, my eyes glossing over with tears.
“I don’t really have a choice.” I whisper.
October
I shift in my seat, anticipating the last bell of the day to ring.
“Please write down the assignment on the board. It’s due Monday morning.” Mrs. Thompson drones on. I mess with the hem of my skirt, and shoot straight up when the bell finally rings. Walking at a fast pace, I finally reach my locker.
“You goin to that Halloween party tonight at the Thornton house?” Sabrina asks, appearing behind my open locker door, popping a piece of gum while looking down at her phone.
“Uhhh I didn’t know there was a party.” I say, shrugging, placing my textbooks that I won’t be using for this weekends homework in, and grabbing my purse before closing the door.
“Damn girl we gotta get you added on this group snapchat story so you can get hip.” she responds before putting out her hand. I reluctantly pass her my unlocked phone as she gets on my Snapchat and adds my username.
“You gotta costume?” she asks as we walk towards the exit.
“Eh I’ll probably just reuse an old costume.” I respond, internally cringing at the old princess costumes stuffed in a box in the attic. When I hung with John B, Sarah, and the gang we made fun of the Kook Academy kids who would dress up and get disgustingly hammered in costumes causing chaos across town.
“Just make sure its tight and sexy. I’ll pick you up around 7:30 for my pregame okay?” she says before we go our seperate ways in the parking lot. I give her a weak smile before entering my car, sighing and putting in the closest clothing store in Kildare I could find on my GPS.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I decided to go as a vampire. It was easy to find a black lace corset and black mini skirt. I stopped at the local Spirit Halloween on the way home for some fake blood and figured I would just do dark black and red makeup to match.
After putting the finishing touches to my makeup, I took a sip of the mixed drink I made myself, pregaming the pregame because I was about to be with people I wasn’t really friends with the entire night.
I move all of my essential belongings to a tiny black Coach purse with silver embellishments that matched my excessive jewlery. My phone rings with a text message, and I sit by my vanity to respond.
Sarah Cameron
What’re you up to tonight?
I debate on telling her I’m going to her ex boyfriends house for a fucking Halloween party. I take a huge gulp from my drink and type a response
Some Kook Halloween party 🙄 wby?
I decide it’s best she doesn’t know I know whos party it is. She immediately repsonds
Oh is it Toppers lmao?
I sigh and begin to type before her chat bubble appears.
Think we were gonna crash that ;)
I laugh and respond
Please do I need to see some familiar faces.
I’ll text you if its confirmed we’re just scheming right now.
I like her text and receive one from Sabrina
Be there in 5.
I like her text and chug the rest of my drink, walk to my closet and debate on what shoes to wear. I decide to go with the all black theme and choose my favorite pair of tall gogo boots that make me at least 4 inches tallers. I walk slowly up the stairs in attempt to avoid my parents seeing my extremely revealing outfit, epically failing when my mom pops her head out of the kitchen as I reach the last step.
“Where are you headed?” she asks, quirking her eyebrow up and looking at me up and down.
“A Halloween party with some friends from school.” I reply, pulling my skirt down, avoiding eye contact.
“I’m glad you’re making friends. Be safe.” she responds before going back into the kitchen.
I roll my eyes. Of course shes fine with me looking like this as long as it’s kids from Figure 8. My phone buzzes and I open it.
Sabrina
Here bitch
“Bye Mom Bye Dad” I shout before exiting the house.
I jump into the passenger seat, and she reaches over to hug me. I flinch lightly, never receiving this type of intimacy from her before. I guess we were really friends now. She’s dressed as princess peach, with the tiniest dress I’ve ever seen and the iconic crown on her head.
She turns her car back on and turns her volume all the way.
“LETS GO GET FUCKED UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP” she cheers before driving off.
We reach her house and she takes me to her basement. Theres a full bar, a pong table and a large couch unoccupied.
“Whats your drink of choice?” she asks stepping behind the bar.
“Just a vodka sprite” I respond, making myself comfortable on her couch. Before shes done making my drink, a rumble of footsteps come down the stairs and a group of guys I’ve seen in passing from classes come down, crowding around Sabrina with hugs.
She pulls away from the group, handing me a red solo cup with my drink in it filled to the brim.
“Everyone this is Y/N” They all take a second to eye me up and down and I stand up, self conscious of how far my skirt rides up when I sit.
“Yea you used to hang with the pogues right?” One pipes up. Sabrina rolls her eyes and walks back behind the bar to start making drinks for the boys.
“Be nice. Shes on the right side of town now.” They let the conversation go and I inspect everyones outfits, they’re all dressed as super heroes, some with just capes, no shirts, some with their shirts propped open. I force myself to not make eye contact with any of them until one approaches me.
“So what made you come finally hang with the kooks?” he inquires, taking a sip from his cup.
“Was getting into too much trouble and I wanna get into a good school.” I respond, mimicking him and taking a sip from his drink.
“What school d’ya wanna go to?” he asks. Before I can respond another rumble of steps come down the stairs and an even larger group of people come down, a few of them dressed as the crew from scooby doo, and three girls dressed like the powerpuff girls. I smile at the way everyone embraced the theme, feeling the liquor increase my confidence.
I walk up to the bar and request another drink from Sabrina, but shes too distracted by a guy dressed as Superman is chatting her up. My phone buzzes and I look down to see a text from Sarah.
Were coming. Is everyone actually dressed up?
Yes 😵 Im a vampire lol
OMG Lemme see
I lean over the bar and interrupt Sabrina’s conversation to ask her where the bathroom is. She points around the corner and I walk over. Its unoccupied and I inspect myself in the mirror. Fixing my hair, I grab my dark red lipstick out of my purse and reapply, before pulling out my phone to snap a picture. I send it to Sarah.
Holy shit you actually committed. You look HAWT
I laugh at my phone before someone pounds on the door.
“One Sec” I respond, blotting my lips on a piece of toilet paper before opening the door.
“All yours” I mumble before heading back to the bar in hopes of actually getting another drink.
“Be my pong partner” Sabrina pleads after refilling my cup.
“Okayyyy” I respond, feeling my words already start to slur. We get behind the table and I look across the table, seeing a boy from my English class and another from my history class.
I had played beer pong before with the crew, and I was decent, but I figured these kids would beat my ass.
On the contrary, Sabrina and I whooped their ass, which led to us jumping around the table spilling our drinks all over the floor.
“SABBBB” Someone calls from the top of the stairs. A group of people walk down all dressed as Mario characters.
“You guys are so late it’s almost time to go to Tops party” she pouts, hugging the guy dressed as Mario, who I’ve picked up over the last few weeks is her controlling possessive boyfriend. I huff, finishing the last of my drink, realizing that I was now alone, my partner in crime being stolen from me as he aggressivley clung to her side as the new group of people cracked open the beers they brought in plastic bags.
I go behind the bar, figuring that Sabrina was now off duty since she was occupied and began puring myself a very heavy handed third drink.
“Hey bartender, wanna fill me up?” the same guy from the couch was leaning over the bar putting his cup out to me. I blush and adjust my skirt.
“Sure, what were you having?”
“Vodka water.” he responds. I turn and feel his eyes on me, I feel my body warm in a sensation I hadn’t felt in a while.
I hand him back his cup and he smirks before taking a sip.
“I’m Noah by the way” he says, holding a hand out.
‘I’m Y/N” I respond, shaking his hand and making my way around the bar to stand next to him.
“You’ve gotten hot since the last time you used to hang around us.” He says, winking at me.
“Yea like middle school.” I joke before taking a large sip of my drink.
He laughs and scoots a bit closer to me. “So you never told me, what college are you thinking about.”
“Mhmmm probably NC State.” I respond, looking down into my cup.
“Nah you gotta come to Duke with the rest of us.”
I roll my eyes and look across the room.
“I kinda fucked my chances with that one by not doing many extracurriculars.” I respond, finally turning to look at him. He rolls his eyes this time and smirks again.
“If you think thats why we’re all getting in then you’re wrong” he grins and clinks his cup against mine.
“‘S all about connections. Lemme know if you need a good word, my dads an alumni.” he says before walking away. I bite my bottom lip, realizing this was exactly what my parents hoped would happen. For me to network my way into these kids lives and get the connections I needed. Those bastards were right. I didn’t wanna go to Duke though, that was never a thought I’ve even had. Maybe I would consider but I didn’t need to attend a school like that to get a good degree.
My thoughts were interrupted by Sabrina standing on the coffee table infront of the couch.
“EVERYONE FINISH THEIR DRINKS IN THE NEXT 30 SECONDS ITS TIME TO GO PARTYYYY” She cheers before her boyfriend picks her up off the table, slinging her over his shoulder, slapping her ass infront of everyone. I choke on my liquid, cringing at the way everyone laughed at her.
I trail behind the group as we walk to the Thornton Mansion, bracing myself for the next level of social interaction I was about to face.
I feel my body vibrate to the bass as soon as we step foot inside the front door, the ceiling lights off, living room illuminated with LEDs across the ceiling and floor lamps that are pink and green. I’m not shocked but I immediately lose Sabrina and the group I walked in with, finding myself alone and wandering to the bar, in hopes that they had liquor.
“Whatcha want -” The tall male voice says before stopping his sentence when he finally faces me.
“Y/N” Rafe whispers, clearing his throat. He’s wearing Slytherin robes, his hair slicked back Draco style.
“Hey” I respond, regretting that I walked to this bar.
“What’re you doing here?” he asks. I feel my confidence rise at the question, refusing to let him belittle me tonight.
“It was an open invite. Why wouldn’t I be here.” I retort staring into his once again blown pupils.
“Dind’t think this was your scene.” He responds nonchalantly.
“You must not know much about me then. Can I get a vodka sprite please.”
He nods his head and turns to the back of the bar, mixing my drink into a red solo cup.
He passes it to me without another word, turning to the girl beside me. “Whatcha want pretty girl?” He asks, staring blatantly at her boobs. I roll my eyes and walk throught the backdoor to see a group group of people surrounding an inground pool. I find an unoccupied pool chair and take a seat.
My phone buzzes with a text from Sarah
We’re about to pull up
I immediately respond
Im in the back by the pool
I play on my phone until I hear my name being called across the pool, looking up to see a group of 5 people wearing masquerade masks waving at me. I jump up and run across the pavement to meet them. Jumping into Kiara’s arms first, she swings me around laughing.
“The fuck are these costumes?” I ask.
“Well it was a last minute decision and we knew if people could actually see our faces we’d be kicked out instantly.” JJ declares, pulling a beer out of his bookbag.
“Hmm good move.” I respond.
“Lets dance!” Kiara cheers, grabbing me and Sarah’s hands, leading us back inside to the group of people dancing in the dining room.
After a few songs I walk to the bar to get another drink. Before I reach the bar I feel a rough yet familiar hand grab my arm, turning me around. Rafe’s face is lowered to meet mine, a stern look upon his face.
“Why the fuck are they here” he says, gritting his teeth.
“Dunno what you’re talking about” I say, yanking my arm from his grip. He follows me to the bar, and presses his chest against my arm, reaching down to my ear.
“I can smell a Pogue a mile away. Who the fuck do you think you are inviting them?” I roll my eyes and order the same drink from the drunk dude behind the counter.
“Look, I didn’t invite any Pogues. And stop grabbing me like that.” I say, pushing his chest off of my arm and turning to head back to the dancefloor. Rafe loses me in the crowd and I notice my friends are no longer in the same place they were.
I look around frantically for their masks and see Kiara and Sarah without their masks on, getting questioned by Topper and Kelce. The boys are nowhere to be found.
“Fuck” I whisper. I see Rafe making a b-line towards their direction and I push through the crowd to reach them.
“Sarah, the fuck are you doin here?” Rafe shouts at her. She rolls her eyes, clinging to Kiara.
“Rafe leave them alone,” I speak up once I finally reach them. He ignores me and takes a step towards her.
“We just popped in to see what was going on. We’re leaving now.” Kiara responds, pulling Sarah’s arm.
I look at them with pleading eyes, not wanting to be left alone again with these people.
They sadly wave to me before exiting, Topper slamming the door behind them. Rafe turns to me with a scowl on his face. I turn around and head to the bathroom.
I pull out my phone to see a text from JJ
Sorry had to bolt on you like that Y/N. Top was looking hella pissed and we didn’t want them to take shit out on you.
That’s alright. It was nice seeing you 🙂
Sarah Cameron
Well that was a bust. Sorry we couldn’t stay longer. Really didn’t want to give Rafe a reason to rat me out to Ward
It’s alright I’m glad I got to see you!!
I sigh, clicking my phone off and exiting the bathroom, finding Rafe standing outside, leaning against the wall.
“You smoke?” he asks.
“Yea” My drunk brain makes me respond without thinking.
“Follow me”
I trail behind Rafe as he takes me to the side patio, where a group of people are sitting around a fire pit. He pulls up a chair for me and hands me a water bottle. I’m slightly confused at his niceness but decide not to question it if I am about to get free weed.
The blunt is finally passed around to me and I take a few hits before passing to Rafe.
“Do we really have to listen to this?” I ask, referring to the loud ass trap music playing from a speaker next to Topper.
Everyone goes silent and looks at me with wide eyes.
“Whos on aux?” I ask, sitting up.
“Me. Whats wrong with this music?” I laugh and open my water bottle
“Its not smoking music. Its bouta make me tweak. You gotta play something chill like Tame Impala.”
Topper looks at Rafe and he shrugs his shoulders.
I speak up again. “Play anything from their album Currents. Its my favorite to listen to while I’m crossed.” I say. At this point I’m amazed by my confidence, but then again everytime I smoke I realize how insignificant anyones opinion of me really is.
Topper plays The Less I know The Better and another blunt is lit up, circling around the group again. As the songs finishes, I realize no one has spoken a word since the song started.
Topper’s glazed eyes look over at me and he begins to giggle like a little boy.
“That was a good call” he finally says. I smile at him and sink into my seat, staring up at the stars, feeling the intoxication take over.
After what only felt like seconds, I feel an aggressive tap on my shoulder. I slowly move my eyes to follow the sensation and see Sabrina, with a crooked crown and makeup smudged under her eyes.
“Whats wrong” I slur out, trying to find the courage to pull myself up from the slouched positon I was in.
“I found Derek making out with a girl in the bathroom. Can we go?” I sober up enough to sit myself up right.
“Oh my god, Sab I’m so sorry. Yea yea lets go.” I say, grabbing my purse. I’m too busy helping Sabrina up the patio stairs to realize Rafe followed us to the front of the house. I jump when I finally see his shadow linger behind us.
“Hey uh I just wanted to let you know we’re having something at my house next weekend. I think. We’re still waiting to hear if my dads gonna be out of town or not.” I nod my head, holding onto Sabrina as she silently sobs.
“Uhh if you want I can text you an update.” I stare at him in repsonse, shocked at his forwardness.
“Um sure.” I say, pulling phone out of my purse handing it to him.
He types his number into my phone and I slip it back into my purse.
“Get home safe. Sorry about Derek, Sab. He’s a dickhead.” she loudly sobs in reponse and his eyes widen.
“Text me when you’re home yea?” he says as we start to walk away. I nod my head and lead Sabrina and I back to her house.
After Sabrina is finally done puking her guts out in the toilet I pull my phone out, remembering I told Rafe when we got home. I stop myself before pressing send. Why do I feel obligated to let him know anything about me? The crossed haze I was still lingering in decided to send a simple text just to get the feeling out of me. After taking off my makeup and changing into a T-shirt and shorts I hear my phone ding
Rafe
Everything all good over there?
I look over to see Sab is already passed out on her side of the bed. I internally debated between responding now or waiting until the morning, he wouldn’t know if we were asleep or not anyways.
All good!
I have hopes he doesn't respond so I can pretend like this isn’t fucking weird, but there’s also a small hope inside of me that he does. It’s probably best if I just go to sleep at this point.
Rafe’s POV
I watch her stumble down the driveway, clutching Sabrina’s waist, her loud sobs echoing in the darkness.
Chewing on the inside of my cheek feeling how dry my mouth is I walk to the back patio sitting down and start chugging my water.
“Y/Ns not too bad” Topper says, offering the blunt to me.
“‘M good” I mumble, sitting back and finishing off the water.
“Yea, she’s a lot nicer than you described.” Kelce chimes in, takin the blunt from Toppers hand.
“Didn’t she used to hang with your sister and those freaks from the cut?” one of the random girls sitting across from me says. I grit my teeth in response and roll my eyes.
“At first I thought she was odd since shes so quiet but maybe we just need to get to know her” another girl pipes in.
“Yea, you invite her next week?” Top asks me, quirking up his eyebrow.
“Yea, but who knows if she’ll even show.” I grumble, reaching behind me for another water.
“I hope she does she seems cool.” the same girl responds. Kelce nods in agreement. “And shes hot as fuck” he says, fist-bumping Topper. He giggles like a little girl and ashes the blunt.
“You guys are annoying.” I say before standing up. “I’m heading out.” I say, reaching out my hand to dap up Topper.
“Dude why its early?” he asks in protest. I stare daggers down at him and feel my jaw clenching.
“Got shit to do with my dad tomorrow.”
“Got it.” he says, and waves goodbye.
As I walk down the driveway I pull out my phone. There’s a few texts from random girls I ran into tonight, a few snapchats from some guys that probably wanted coke. But no text form her yet. I stuff the phone back in my pocket, heading home.
When I finally reach the front door, I see Sarah and John B sitting on the living room couch.
“Hey” she says as I take my shoes off. I probably would’ve said hello back if John wasn’t in my house, but decided to wave her off and head upstairs. I turn the shower on, but before I jump in, I check my phone again and see that there’s no new messages.
My mind starts to run wild, thinking about how soft her thighs looked in the mini skirt she was wearing. I love when she wears black, she always looks so confident in anything, but she shines best in black. She also always has her makeup done perfectly. I’ve always wondered how girls get a sharp wing. The way the fake blood dripped down her neck into the crevice of her chest made my blood run hot. I wonder what her neck tastes like. I got a whiff of her perfume, it was sweet like berries yet musky.
I finish up in the shower and dry myself off. I pull on a clean pair of boxers and climb into bed, checking my phone for the last time before I go to sleep.
Y/N
Home :)
I feel my cheeks heat up in response. What the fuck is wrong with me, why am I blushing over the freak my sister hangs out with. Why have I been waiting for this fucking text to put my mind at ease. I debate on what to type in response, wanting to play it cool, but also curious about what happened with Sabrina and Derek.
I internally cringe before pressing send, and decide it’s best I go to bed before she has time to respond.

Alt+Nerd= <3 Pope x (f) reader
| Warnings:
| Summary: The bubbly alt girl falls for Pope, the nerdy and serious guy.
| (a/n): I had a good reaction to the alt reader x obx so I wanted to continue that a little bit :) I'm so tired so if this is awful I apologize but I had fun writing it so that's really what counts right? Not proof read.
Tumblr media
Leaning up against the lockers you watched as the whole pouge friend group walked past, sighing to yourself. Since freshman year you had had a thing for the smart one, Pope. He was so cute and serious and when he got all serious it made him even cuter and more adorable in your eyes. He was misunderstood and looked over a lot for John B and JJ. And even when he wasn't being looked over, he rarely noticed when girls hit on him. Green flags tbh.
But this brings you back to today...as you watched them all walk passed you knew you were probably not his type considering he was dating Kiara but a girl can dream. You had your black and blue hair straightened and pulled back into pigtails, neon green glasses, black cropped hoodie, skinny jeans, and orange nike airs on. "Hey! You ready for class?" your best friends voice snapped you out of your trance.
"Oh yeah, sorry," you shook your head and smiled before grabbing your bag and walking to AP biology. Tapping your pen on the desk, you day dreamed as the teacher went over the previous test. This was your favorite class but today you were just distracted. Before you knew it, the bell rang and you realized you hadn't taken a single note. Shit you thought. But that's when you had the idea... "Hey Pope!" you yelled after the boy as you ran to catch up to him.
"Uh...hi?" he looked at you confused. Honestly fair considering you have had probably two conversations with him in total. "What's up?"
"Oh, well...I kinda have a problem," you began. "Is there anyway you can go over the science notes from today with me? I didn't quite get all of it." Correction, I was staring at you like a total stalker for the entire class and wasn't paying any attention.
"Oh uh, yeah sure. Meet me at lunch and I'll give you my notes," Pope said as you nodded.
"Lucky I have the smartest guy in school in my class!" you responded cheerfully.
"Well technically Thomas Jennings is the number 1 in our class so he would be the smartest. I'm probably top five-" he rambled on before you cut him off.
"Pope," you stated. "Take the compliment and go with it. A cute girl is calling you smart."
As lunch rolled around, you met up with him and you copied down his notes from the day. "I like your glasses by the way." This snapped you out of you concentration.
"I'm sorry?" you asked not quite processing.
"Your glasses," he smiled. "They're cool. I like them."
"Oh," blushing hard core, you smiled. "Thank you!"
"Sorry if this is weird," he started, scratching the back of his neck. "You remind me of someone."
"Yeah? And who might that be?" you put your pen down and smiled. You were in the conversation now. Can't take this for granted.
"Abbey from NCIS," this time he came across as shy.
"Wait, no way! Thank you so much! I've always loved her and Penelope Garcia from Criminal Minds. I think that's where my style comes from. But Oh my God Thank you!" you knew you were rambling but fuck it. "Wait you watch NCIS?"
"Oh yeah, I love that show," Pope chuckled at your enthusiasm. "I always wanted to be like Duckie. I want to be a coroner."
"That's so dope," you smiled. "I want to go into forensics."
"That's not people's usual reaction to that," he stated.
You could stare into his eyes all day, good God, "Hey, we should meet up at the wreck after school. I mean if you want."
"Yeah! My friends and I were already planning on meeting up there later," he started. "You can come with us."
"Ok! I would love that!," this time it was your turn to chuckle. "Maybe after we can have some alone time? Just the two of us?"
"Wait...what?" the quizzical look he had on his face was adorable.
"Here," you said grabbing his arm and writing your number down. "I've been flirting with you for the past half hour for the record." You winked at him and started grabbing your things.
"I-I'll text you," he called after you and JJ looked over at him giving him a thumbs up. You knew he was watching you leave as you walked out of the cafeteria.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Time Skip After Shool~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As soon as you got home, you got ready to meet up with the pouges and considering this was the first time, and you were hanging out with pope, you had to look decent. Deciding on ripped black skinny jeans and a blue halter top with David Bowie vans high tops, you threw your hair into a half up half down bun and put on some lashes. Your green glasses still adorning your face. Dabbing on some lip gloss, you took one final look at yourself in the mirror before heading out.
Pope's friends were really nice and very chill honestly! Kiara was standoffish at first but quickly warmed up. And you learned Sarah Cameron was nothing like you expected! "So Ms. (Y/n)," JJ exclaimed throwing his arm over your shoulder. "Pope has told us a lot about you." Pope was signaling for him to shut the fuck up but that's not what JJ does.
"Has he now?" you giggled looking over at him.
"I wouldn't say a alot..." Pope was trying to hide his face now.
"Really?" JJ began. "So she isn't the cool, colored hair girl who is the only person who is better in science than you?"
"And she isn't the sweet and talkative girl who reminds you of...what's that show again?" Kiara chimed in laughing and using hand motions.
"Ok, ok, leave him alone," John B very kindly said. "And the show is NCIS."
"That's right!" everyone exclaimed at once embarrassing him and making you laugh and look at him sweetly.
"So exactly how smart are you to be better at Pope in something?" Sarah asked putting a french fry in her mouth.
"Oh, um," you were blushing now from the attention. "I'm just freakishly good at science. He's still smarter than I am." He smiled and shook his head at you. After a couple hours the two of you snuck off, but not without whistles from the others. Walking down to the shoreline, having your feet touch the water as you looked at the shells and things washing up. "Thank you for inviting me to hang out with you and your friends."
"Oh, it's no problem," he stated. "Thanks for writing your number on my arm. JJ was proud." This caused you to chuckle a little bit.
"Earlier you said I wasn't what you expected," you said softly. "You aren't what I expected either."
This time his facial expression was nervous as he snapped his head to look at you, "In a good way or a bad way?"
Smiling widely up at him, "In the best way."
"(Y/n)?"
"Pope?"
"Do I have permission to kiss you?" he asked slightly awkwardly.
"Always," you responded sweetly. As your lips met, it was everything you had dreamed of. His hand came to rest on your face gently as he pulled you in closer causing you to throw your arms around his neck. The nerdy guy kissing the goth girl in the moonlight? How many cliches can you guys check off at once? But none the less, this was the perfect night.
lovelorn (and nobody knows) [rafe cameron au fic] chapter 1
Tumblr media
Summary: Isla Carrera had planned for the summer before college to be focused on three things: helping out at her family's restaurant (the helpful daughter), preparing for college (the good student), and having fun with the Pogues (the loyal friend). But one fateful night, where her car breaks down and her rescuer is none other than Rafe Cameron, seems to send her summer down a path she didn't see coming--one teeming with a secret, illicit romance with the last person she expected. And if her friends and sister found out, Isla isn't sure they'll be so understanding, no matter what her feelings are.
Author's Note: I forgot how much I absolutely loathe writing summaries LOL but anyways! First chapter is here, let me know if y'all vibe with it. I had fun writing it and if you wanna see more, let me know! (And now I have to figure out if I remember linking everything on my blog since I haven't posted my writing on Tumblr in forever. . .)
Chapter 1
“Oh, no. No, no, no. Don’t do this to me, please.”
Isla Carrera’s pleading is in vain as the engine of her car sputters out of life, and there’s just enough juice left for her to pull over onto the side of the dirt road so she’s not stranded in the middle. Her grip on the steering wheel remains tight as she sits in silence, staring out onto the dark road only lit up by the two beams of her headlights. The small silver lining, if there is one, is that she knows exactly where she is, just a little ways away from a row of houses on Figure Eight. But right now, she’s surrounded by trees on a road that has no street lamps, the sky a blanket of black above her.
Her groan cuts through the silence, eyes squeezing shut as she rests her forehead against the steering wheel. She should have just slept over at John B’s house like her sister, Kie, decided to. But Isla’s covering another waitress at the restaurant early tomorrow, and she didn’t want to run late again or else her parents would rip her a new one. Kie’s shift wasn’t until later in the afternoon, so her sister was in no rush to get home. Now here Isla is, with a car that won’t turn over, still a fifteen minute drive away from her house.
“Fucking great,” she mutters, making sure her hazards are on and her phone is in her pocket before getting out of the car.
Though she knows nothing about cars, Isla pops open the hood and uses the flashlight on her phone. If she’s being honest, it all looks like a bunch of mechanical junk she has no idea how to work her way around. She’s not sure why she even bothers, so instead of wasting time, she unlocks her phone to find the number for a towing service.
A rumble of a car engine catches her attention, the kind that makes an annoying popping sound, and by the time she looks up and around the open top of her hood, she sees two guys hopping out of an old Ford truck. She vaguely recognizes them. Just by the look of them, they seem to be a couple of years older than her—and clearly from The Cut. Not that it matters, since her best friends are from the other side of the island, but not all of the people from The Cut are fond of those from Figure Eight, and vice versa. Isla and her sister, though they belong on the more privileged side of the island, prefer the freedom of The Cut.
None of that exactly matters right now, though.
Music cranks out of the car, but Isla can’t pay it any mind as unease creeps into her stomach when both sets of eyes land on her.
She’s a girl alone in the middle of a road at night, so Isla is immediately on high alert as the guys make their way towards her, slow but confident in a way that makes her feel like a prey. I don’t like this.
Alarm bells are ringing in her head as one of the guys in cargo shorts and a tank top shoots her a slimy grin. “Car trouble, sweetheart?”
Isla’s muscles tense. Yeah, nope. Not good. “Uh, no, all good,” she says, forcing some of that confidence into her voice that Kie is an expert at wielding.
The other one with darker hair hidden under a baseball cap asks, “You sure we can’t help?” His grin is anything but charming. “We’d be more than happy to help.”
They don’t stop their approach, and Isla’s mind begins running through different scenarios, her pulse beginning to quicken in panic she’s trying to keep at bay. There’s no one around to help, and she can’t depend on another car passing by and stopping to help—if they even would. She doesn’t want to lock herself in her car while she calls her dad or friends for help; the idea of sitting trapped makes her heart squeeze with dread.
“You can stop right there.” She doesn’t want to give into the fear that’s slithering through her veins, but she can’t stop the words from escaping her mouth, the crunch of the dirt beneath their shoes too daunting to ignore.
Her hand inches towards her back pocket where she had stashed her keys, fingers closing around the small can of pepper spray she’s got hooked in there. Isla has never had the unfortunate opportunity to use it before, but the vibes she’s getting right now—first time for everything.
“What’s the matter?” the first guy asks with a taunting tilt of his head, neither of them stopping their pace. “We’re only here to help.”
Yeah, fucking right. “Stop.” Her heart is pounding in her ears, taking a few steps back.
Creepy guy number two exchanges a look with number one. “See that, Dyl? Little Miss Kook looks a little scared.”
Oh, screw this. Isla refuses to stick around and find out what’s going to happen, and she doesn’t at all feel guilty when she juts her hand forward and presses down on the top of the small can. Her aim is a little off, so she only manages to spray the first guy—Dyl. The sound of his shriek of pain cuts through the air, and he stumbles back and spits out curses as he presses the heels of his palms into his eyes.
The second guy freezes in surprise, looking between Isla and his friend, but she doesn’t stick around to see what he’s going to do next. Instead, Isla turns and makes a run for it, making sure to press the button on her FOB to lock her car as she bolts down the dirt road. She can hear the guys yelling over the sound of the breeze rushing past her ears, fear fueling more power to her legs as she nears a neighborhood street at the end of the dirt road. Isla isn’t sure if they’re following her, or if they’re even going to, but she doesn’t pause to find out.
She runs and runs, her lungs beginning to burn, as she rounds a stone wall with greenery growing through the cracks that closes in a property—only for her vision to go black for a split second when she collides against something.
“Jesus fucking Christ.” Scratch that—make that someone, because instead of falling back on her ass, a strong pair of arms wrap around her waist to keep her from tumbling down. The grip is tight and secure, and a delicious aroma of what seems to be earthy wood tickles her nose. “What the hell are you—Isla?”
The sound of her name being spoken in that all too familiar voice clears Isla’s head, and she pulls back enough to look up into the startling blue eyes of Rafe Cameron. Her pounding heart seems to slow down a fraction, and she’s not sure what to make of the mild relief that calms down her frazzled nerves because this is Rafe Cameron. Sure, he might not be as bad as those two freaks, and he’s one of her close friends’ brothers, but he’s still the same guy that has gotten into more than a few fights with her best friends. That being said, she shouldn’t find as much comfort as she does being in front of him.
Her breathing is heavy, pulse throbbing uncontrollably. She only barely registers her hands gripping his forearms, like it’s grounding her as she takes in Rafe’s expression. His eyebrows are furrowed together as he looks down at her, his height towering over her five-foot five frame, and there’s more confusion than worry in his features, unsurprisingly. Her heavy breathy makes her privy to the scent of nicotine, glancing down to see a half used cigarette now laying forgotten on the ground.
“What the hell are you doing?” Rafe repeats. Isla hears the familiar thread of annoyance in his voice, but she can’t bring herself to give a damn.
She lets go of him like he’s electrocuted her, taking a step back and forcing him to let go of her, too. It takes everything in her not to acknowledge the way her skin burns where his had touched hers. “Going for a run, what does it look like?” she snaps back, though her voice trembles on her breath.
Rafe’s expression deadpans, though he arches an eyebrow under the dirty blonde bangs that frame his forehead. “Looks like you’re scared,” he states.
“I—” Isla gets cut off by the familiar sound of a car engine rumbling, the popping kind, and the breath locks in her throat as she glances over her shoulder. “Fuck,” she breathlessly mutters, catching sight of the headlights creeping up from around the corner on the road. She’s not sure if those guys are looking for her—though, she wouldn’t be surprised given that she pepper sprayed one of them, and her pulse quickens again in panic with the need to hide away.
“Wait—are you running from someone?” Rafe questions, and Isla looks back at him to see his gaze pointed over her head, right where the noise of the car is coming from. A car that sounds to be approaching too close.
“You’re asking too many questions,” Isla returns hastily, stepping to go around him. “I need to go—”
Rafe lets out an exasperated huff, and if she had all her wits about her, she’d snap at him. But instead, surprise slams through her when Rafe’s hand wraps around her bicep, his grip firm but not tight as he mutters, “Come here.”
Before Isla knows it, she’s being dragged through the gate of the Cameron estate, disappearing onto the property right when the car turns the corner. Her heart launches to her throat when Rafe suddenly turns her, and she’s being pressed against the stone wall, soft leaves pressing to her back in contrast to the hard surface.
Isla’s eyes widen when Rafe’s body presses against her, the air rushing out of her lungs as her gaze snaps up to meet his. “What are you doing?” she asks, her words a mere breath.
He seems surprised by his own actions, lips pursed and that muscle in his clean shaven jaw pulsing almost as quickly as her own heart. Can he hear the thundering, feel it? “Just—stay quiet,” Rafe grits.
Part of Isla wants to push him off—the part that sounds a lot like her friends. But fear wins out, keeping her in place, as she hears the car creep along in front of the gate of the Cameron property.
Rafe’s eyes silently tell her to remain quiet and something tightens her stomach—something other than fear—and it startles her enough to flick her gaze to the left, towards the vine wrapped gate. She can see the headlights slowly passing by, and she prays that these guys aren’t stupid enough to trespass private property.
Then again, they were ready to do God-knows-what to her, so who the hell knows?
The thought alone sends her heartbeat accelerating all over again, panic settling in her bones hard enough to rattle them. Isla’s hands fist at her sides, eyes squeezing shut as she leans her head back against the wall. How the hell had her night taken such a freaky turn? And how is it that Rafe Cameron, of all people, is the one to help her out?
Suddenly, the mid-May night doesn’t feel as warm as Rafe’s body; he isn’t close enough where his body is completely pressing into hers, but she can feel the soft material of his shirt fluttering against the bare skin of her stomach, thanks to her crop top. Isla can feel the heat of his skin seeping into hers, which makes her heart thunder with something other than panic, and she’s not entirely sure what the hell to do with that.
“Relax—they’re gone.”
His voice is low and gruff, a tone that makes goosebumps pebble her skin even in this warm weather. Isla opens her eyes with a sharp exhale and her brown eyes immediately find Rafe’s blue, her throat tightening under his scrutinizing gaze. True, she can’t hear the engine anymore, the headlights are also gone, and Isla tries to even out her breathing while nodding slowly.
Rafe’s eyes rake over her and shouldn’t she feel unsettled about that? About how close he’s standing to her? But it seems like all of her unease has been used up from evading those weirdos, so Rafe Cameron being her rescuer doesn’t annoy her as much as it normally would.
“So what was that about?” he questions, raising an eyebrow.
Isla’s throat works, dragging her gaze back up at him. The lamps spaced out along the wall light his face, casting shadows along his sharp cheekbones. He’s so handsome—the thought crosses through her mind quickly, and though she would never admit it to her friends, she can’t help but find the truth in it—as insane as it might be.
“Nothing to concern yourself with,” Isla finds herself saying, lifting her chin in a small act of defiance.
The corner of Rafe’s mouth twitches into a ghost of a smirk, and through the light reflecting in his eyes, she can see them dancing in amusement. “Given that I just saved your ass, an explanation would be nice.”
Isla scowls, all thoughts of his stupidly good looks vanishing. “I didn’t ask you to do that. I had it under control.”
It’s a lie spoken through her teeth, and Rafe can see that. “Yeah, looked real under control when you were running for your life,” he replies dryly, eyebrows rising. But then his expression flattens out, eyebrows furrowing together once again as he says, “Seriously, Isla. What gives? What the hell was that about?”
“Just—some fucking weirdos, I don’t know,” she huffs, frustration from this entire ordeal bubbling to the surface as she rubs her hands up her face and runs her fingers through her hair. “I—Can you back up?” she asks hastily, forcing a glare. Rafe, surprisingly, simply presses his lips together and raises his hands in defense while taking a couple of steps away from her. Isla is no longer embraced by his warmth, by his scent, and there’s an unexpected tug in her chest that she ignores. “My car broke down on that dirt path behind the road. I was trying to figure it out when these guys pulled up and, I don’t know, shit got weird so I made a break for it.”
Rafe frowns as he listens to her, and Isla shakes her head, rubbing the back of her neck. “I need to get back to my car,” she says.
“Seriously?” Rafe asks, scoffing. “You’re gonna go back when some freaks are looking for you?”
Isla glares at him, not at all appreciating him talking to her like she’s stupid. “My wallet’s still in my car. I need to grab it if they haven’t fucking broken into my car already.”
She moves past him to head to the gate, surprised to hear his footsteps as he easily catches up to her. “What, you’re gonna walk back?” When Isla glances at Rafe, he’s looking at her like she’s insane. No sign of the contempt he normally saves for her and her friends, which is slightly unnerving. “After you were just running from some freaks? You do realize how much of a bad idea that is, right?”
She shrugs even as the unease from before returns at the idea of running into those guys again. “I need to get my wallet,” is her meek response.
Rafe lets out a breath, running his fingers through his hair and Isla briefly frowns at herself at the way her gaze seems to run to the flex of his bicep. And the way her stomach fucking flutters because this is Rafe Cameron. The only fluttering her stomach should be doing where he’s concerned is one tinged with nausea.
Rafe then fixes her with a stern look. “Come on,” he says firmly before walking down the driveway of his house.
Isla blinks out of whatever stupor she was in and glares at his back—and at the demand he left her with. She scoffs, hands splaying in annoyance until she realizes he’s headed straight for his motorcycle. Her shoulders drop, rooted on the spot as she says flatly, “You’re joking.”
Rafe is already pulling out a helmet—scratch that, two helmets—and looking at her, once again, like she’s an idiot while she glares at him. At least there’s that bit of normalcy. “This—” He holds up both helmets in each hand. “Is better than you walking back to your car by yourself. Let’s go.”
Isla’s disbelief only intensifies. She doesn’t walk over to him, doesn’t take the proffered helmet. Instead, she exhales sharply and crosses her arms over her chest, asking, “Why are you helping me?”
Rafe has the gall to look annoyed by her question, arms resting at his sides. His gaze locks with Isla’s, but she doesn’t shy away from it as he eventually drops his head back with a groan before looking back at her once more. “Listen, contrary to your and your friends’ popular belief, I’m not a complete dick.” Isla can’t help but scoff and roll her eyes, cutting her gaze away from him in doubt. He cannot be serious. “I wouldn’t want either of my sisters to be fucking chased by some losers, so just think of this as my good deed of the month, alright? Now will you please take the damn helmet and get on the bike?”
Frankly, Isla feels like she’s just stepped into an alternate reality because, seriously, when was the last time Rafe Cameron ever did anything nice for her—if ever?
But as much as Isla’s pride is begging for her to tell him thanks but no thanks and turn and walk back to her car, fear still resides in the pit of her belly, waiting to strike. She hates to admit it, but Rafe is right. It’d be dumb of her to walk back alone at night after what just happened. Maybe she could call her sister or one of her friends, but that would just add unnecessary time to all this, and Isla just really wants to get home. So, fine; maybe she can accept Rafe’s offer to drive her to her car, and then from there maybe she can call an Uber home and call a tow truck from the safety of her bedroom.
Rafe holds out one of the black helmets in impatience, and Isla purses her lips as she pushes herself to walk over. She does her best not to admire the sight of him next to his bike, something she never would have done before tonight. Maybe this whole freaky situation has loosened some screws in her brain.
Isla all but snatches the helmet out of his hand, though a part of her feels as though it’s just for appearances’ sake to keep up her usual attitude around Rafe, and tucks her dark hair behind her ears before pulling the helmet on, the visor still up. She tries her best not to think of the weight of his gaze on her as she fiddles with the straps on her chin to secure the helmet, but she’s unable to get it right, fingers trembling despite herself.
“I got it,” Rafe says, and Isla freezes when he gently bats her hands away and steps up to her, using his finger to push at the bottom of the helmet so she can tilt her head back enough for him to see the straps. The heat of his body greets her once more and she’s silent as she feels him secure the straps, breath hitching quietly when the backs of his fingers brush against her skin.
He’s done within seconds, but it sure as shit feels longer as she remains standing there, watching him pull on his own helmet. Isla watches silently as Rafe gets on the bike, wondering how she got here, and he says, “Hop on.”
Isla has ridden on the back of JJ’s bike plenty of times, so she gets on with no trouble, though she does have to grip Rafe’s shoulders in order to do so. They’re broad and firm under her hands, and she mentally chastises herself for even thinking about his stupid shoulders. When she’s settled behind him, her legs framing his, Isla’s heartbeat picks up at the sudden proximity, her front against his back.
She’s sure she’s barely breathing when her skin warms because there’s barely any space that exists between them, and when Rafe tells her, “Hold on or risk flying off,” she can’t decide if she wants to smack him upside the head or beg for the ground to swallow her whole.
Sliding the visor down, Isla inhales deeply and quietly before winding her arms around Rafe’s waist, teeth gritting together because if her friends saw her now, they definitely would believe she’s lost her mind. The fact of the matter is, right now all she can seem to focus on is the solidness of his stomach against her arms and how fucking good he smells, which is confusing and overwhelming and everything in between.
The motorcycle’s engine roars to life, and seconds later Rafe is kicking off the kick-stand and they’re riding down the driveway and onto the road. She had told him her car stopped on the dirt path behind the actual road, separated by trees, and that’s all Rafe seemingly needs to know as he takes them in the right direction. The breeze as they go feels good against her, cooling her heated skin down and she would never admit it, but riding on the back of Rafe Cameron’s bike has a somewhat calming effect on her.
The tension that had tightened her muscles since her encounter with those other guys melts away, and the rapid thumping of her heart has nothing to do with anxiety and everything to do with the thrill of this moment. Maybe it’s ill advised, but it seems to be exactly what she needs as the night air mixes with Rafe’s cologne—or maybe he just smells like that in general?
God, she’s getting too weird about this.
Soon enough, her car comes into view and Isla is relieved when there seems to be no sign of those guys. Rafe stops the bike right next to her car, and another sigh of relief escapes her when she sees that her car doesn’t look damaged. Swinging her leg over, she uses Rafe’s shoulders as leverage to get off the bike, trying not to think too much about the loss of his body heat as she reaches for the helmet straps.
They’re easier to undo than they were to strap, and she lifts the helmet off, one hand already flattening her dark hair as Rafe holds his hand out for the helmet. As she unlocks the car, Rafe asks, “How’d you manage to outrun them?”
Isla leans into the driver’s seat, reaching for her tote bag in the passenger seat. She digs through it for a moment, taking stock of her wallet, lip gloss, lip balm, and the few other things still safely inside. “I pepper-sprayed one of them,” she answers as she pulls out and straightens.
When she turns to look at Rafe, whose helmet’s visor is up, she sees the smirk that curls at his mouth. How does a sight that made her want to knee him in the stomach before make her feel kind of weak kneed right now? Did those guys really freak her out so much that now down is up and left is right? “Nice,” he murmurs, nodding in approval. Jutting his chin towards her car, he asks, “You gonna call a truck?”
Isla shakes her head. “When I get home,” she says, pulling out her phone.
Rafe nods as he holds the helmet out once more. “Alright, let’s go.”
Isla pauses, gaze flicking up from her phone screen where the Uber app is open to look at him. Arching an eyebrow, she asks, “Uh, go where?”
He mirrors the arched eyebrow look. “I’ll take you home,” he says as if it’s obvious when it very much isn’t.
“No thanks. I can Uber,” she answers, already putting her home address in.
Rafe scoffs, shaking his head as he remains sitting on his bike. “You’re just full of bad ideas tonight, aren’t you?” he says. Isla’s eyes narrow, irritation sparking through her as he splays his arms out to gesture to the road they’re on. “You’re really gonna wait out here on a dirt road, with no street lamps, in the dark for an Uber when I’m offering you a ride home right now?” Before she can respond, he carries on, “On the same stretch of road, mind you, that you just got harassed on?”
The irritation intensifies, and Isla’s expression twists into a glare as she snaps, “What’s it to you, huh? You already did your good deed of the month. We’re not friends, Rafe. I don’t need your help.”
Even with the helmet on, she can tell he’s clenching his jaw, eyes hard as he sets them on her. The look makes her chest burn in a way that’s not all unwelcome, and that alone should be a sign that she’s losing it. “We may not be friends, but you’re my sister’s friend, alright? Sarah would kill me if she found out I left you out here by yourself. So stop being so fucking stubborn and get on the damn bike, Isla. I’m taking you home.”
She presses her tongue to her cheek, shoulders bunched in frustration while Rafe glares at her, his own impatience radiating off of him in waves. Sarah has told Isla how stubborn her brother can be, and while Isla doesn’t know Rafe well, she knows him and has dealt with him enough to know he isn’t budging on this. So, with a huff, she snatches the helmet once more, ignoring the protests in her head that sound suspiciously a lot like her friends as she pulls the helmet on.
She manages to get the straps this time and gets back on the bike, her bag securely hanging off her shoulder as Rafe starts the bike again and Isla swallows silently as she wraps her arms around his waist once more. Every part of her is warm where it touches him, and as he drives, she tilts her head back, practically begging for anyone listening to get her to calm the hell down.
Seriously—how the hell did Rafe Cameron become her would-be hero of tonight?
Luckily, her house is a ten minute drive from the Cameron house and Isla allows him to pull up to the front of the house, since Kie isn’t home and has no chance of peeking out her bedroom window and seeing Isla getting off Rafe’s bike. He parks the bike and Isla lets go of him almost immediately, hopping off the bike and undoing the straps of the helmet under her chin.
Rafe is already looking at her by the time she gets the helmet off, his blue eyes visible since the visor is lifted. With a close mouthed, saccharine smile, Isla all but shoves the helmet into his hands. “Thanks for the ride. Let’s never do this again.”
He scoffs as he shakes his head, but the smirk on his face is apparent. “Don’t have to tell me twice.”
Isla rolls her eyes and, without another word, turns towards her house. She’s on the front porch and fishing keys out when she glances to the right and sees Rafe still parked there, seemingly watching her. Her stomach does a stupid, weird flip as she unlocks the door and shoos him. “Go away,” she hisses, even though Kiara isn’t home and her parents wouldn’t care that Rafe dropped her off—hell, her mom would be thrilled, honestly.
Even from this distance, she can just picture Rafe’s arrogant smirk as he lifts a hand in a two fingered salute before revving the engine of his bike, and Isla clenches her jaw as he speeds off, the roar echoing down the block. Exhaling sharply, Isla shakes her head and walks into her house, shutting the door behind her just as she hears footsteps approaching her.
“Where have you been?” her mom asks, not demanding but more concerned.
Isla smiles sheepishly as she faces her mother. “Yeah, about that. . .”
