HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN - OBI-WAN KENOBI BEHIND THE SCENES
"I was so excited to get to do the bacta tank scenes. I had to be completely submerged in water holding my breath. For a few weeks leading up to it I got to work with a great dive coach, and he would teach me different breathing techniques. I think my longest breath holds were around two and a half minutes. It was surprisingly peaceful in there." [x]
I GOT THE KENOBI SERIES BLU RAY AND I'M SO HAPPY I'M :'))))))))))
IT CAME WITH SOME CONCEPT ART AND IT'S JUST MAKING ME DESPERATELY WANT THEM TO RELEASE A BOOK WITH ALL OF THE CONCEPT ART PLEASE STAR WARS IT'S IMPORTANT TO ME I REALLY WANT IT
Do you plan to buy Obi-Wan Kenobi and/or Andor Season 1 on Blu-ray as well? I read that each includes "over an hour" of bonus features, so I preordered the latter.
I probably will! I’m trying to hold on to physical copies as much as possible. But if they end up announcing physical copies of Boba Fett/S3 soon, I’ll be prioritizing those for obvious reasons hahaha
“I decided that the scene would give more closure to Luke’s relationship with his father. When Vader joins the Force he is able to retain his original identity because of Obi-Wan and the Jedi Order, because they’ve learned how to do it.”
- as reported in The Making of Return of the Jedi and The Star Wars Archives: 1977-1983
“This little scene where [Luke] burns his father's body— it wasn't originally in the script. But I decided it gave more closure in terms of Luke's relationship to his father and letting go of his father, even though later on […] as he joins the Force, he is able to retain his original identity. It's because of Obi-Wan and Yoda, who learn how to do that, how to join the Force at will and then retain your identity. But it was his identity as he was when he died as Anakin Skywalker.”
- Return of the Jedi, Commentary Track 2, Special Edition DVD, 2004
“There is a scene where Obi-Wan and Yoda have learned how to join the Force at will and then retain their individuality once they are part of the Force, which is unusual. And that's the key to their being able to come back.
It's their connection to Anakin… and his being saved and resurrected at the end… that allows them to have him, when he dies as Darth Vader, to be transferred back into the self he was before he was killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi - or maimed by Obi-Wan Kenobi - before he made his transition into Darth Vader.”
- Return of the Jedi, Commentary Track 2, Special Edition DVD, 2004
"The idea was that your [Anakin’s] inner person would go back to where we left it off when it turned to the Dark Side. Y’know, when you got burned up and everything, but before you got burned up. So when you come back to the Good Side of the Force, it’s your former persona that survives, not the Darth Vader persona."
- MovieFone Unscripted, 2005
“The idea that you could learn how to become one with the Force at will, which means to give up your corporeal body and become part of an energy field just by willing it to happen, came out of a Buddhist idea. Basically it worked for the plot device here. The whole subtext of the Force and the ability to join the Force grew out of that reality, which is a subtext that is one of those things that's kind of confusing to a lot of people.
One of the issues that’s in the backstory is the idea that the Force surrounds you and is part of you and when you die, you become one with the Force. But it's an energy field, so you just become energy, and you don't have your individuality or personality any more. You're just energy, and the energy comes and goes. It's partly generated by life and partly influenced by life.
The one who ultimately finds out the way to do it is Qui-Gon Jinn. He teaches Yoda. Yoda teaches Obi-Wan. And then Obi-Wan and Yoda together at the end help the old Anakin Skywalker come back and keep his individuality while he was part of the Force.”
- A New Hope, Archival Commentary Track, Blu-Ray, 2011
