Anyway, what connects all of the characters together is Honor, a major theme of the movie. It's the reason that These People In Particular are all chosen, beyond their reputations or even their skill sets (which are still important).

What does your personal honor look like? How do you uphold it? What do you do when you lose your honor? Can you ever truly regain it once it's lost? Can you find redemption, or is revenge the closest thing you can get? Can revenge and honor ever be the same?

After her indoctrination and service in the Imperium, Kora deserts, but it's for her survival, not the recovery of her honor. That's the journey she's currently on in the defense of her new home and the people there, triggered by the conflict of choosing her personal safety or rescuing Sam from further assault. She found the line of her honor and refused to ignore it any longer.

Gunnar placed personal gain over maintaining a united front about the grain surplus. His dishonorable actions lead to Sindri getting killed and their village placed under the Imperium's thumb. Noble's culpability aside, Gunnar feels responsible for his role in all this and seeks to make amends. It's why he's the only one who jumps in to protect the child from potential collateral damage in Nemesis' fight with Harmada. He is transitioning from being a selfish character to being more selfless, defining what he wants his personal honor to be.

Speaking of Nemesis, she is the most samurai-coded character here, complete with their version of honor. Her failure at being able to protect her children drives her to defend others, and shoulder the burden of killing once a peaceful resolution cannot be reached. It's why she has an entire conversation with Harmada, to understand what drives her, to attempt to find common ground and shared empathy. It's why she fights first with naked steel, to try to convince Harmada to back off, to value her own life, and it's for the lives of others that she finally ignites her blades when she cannot. Nemesis is not an emotionless cyborg who assassinates in cold blood, but one who is deeply attuned to her pain and that of others.

Tarak is a prince, and yet we learn he's nowhere near his home or his people. Whether he's failed them or abandoned them (or feels like he has) is still a mystery, but we still know that he is an honorable man, regarding his servitude to Hickman with utter seriousness. Tarak will honor his word and any agreements once given, including a life debt, and his connection with nature both demonstrates and resonates his nobility. He even has the whole "honor them" speech to Millius, revealing that he knows the guilt of surviving when all the friends you swore to fight beside are now gone.

General Titus fought proudly for the Imperium until his honor wouldn't allow him to stomach their methods. The price for that included his men's lives, his station, and his dignity. Unable to protect any of it including his ideals, he turns to drink and hopes fighting as a gladiator to the death does the rest. And yet, he cannot bring himself to just lay down and die. He dwells on his mistakes but does not succumb to them. The kernel of honor was still within him, and it's no wonder Kora and the other idealists at her back were able to ignite it again.

Jimmy is from an order of robotic knights, who all laid down their arms in dishonor and disgrace when the Imperium's royal family was murdered. He embodies old and forgotten chivalry, and in case you missed that, they got Anthony Hopkins to voice him. These knights haven't fought back since, even when they are attacked---and yet Jimmy retaliates to protect Sam before himself, finding something honorable to fight for again.

Darrian Bloodaxe has his honor as a rebellion leader tested and rightly concludes that the revolution is meaningless if they will not come to the aid of the most defenseless among them. (But he and his men die anyway!) Indeed, that is the point. Hedging your bets and picking your battles might be the smartest option, but it's not the most noble or honorable. Honor, in case you haven't noticed, often demands a choice and a price.

And yes, even our villains share in this theme in their own twisted ways. Kai is a mirror to Gunnar, but where Gunnar is growing into being a less opportunistic person, Kai is deliberately shrouding his true intentions from the get-go. At Kai's betrayal, Kora demands after his honor, to which Kai dryly replies, "What did happen to it." It isn't a question. Kai long ago saw honor as a death sentence and chose survival over everything, and in an ironic twist, is killed once he tries to tempt Gunnar into choosing his own survival over Kora's. Like Kora before him, Gunnar finds his line that he will not cross as well as what he fights for.

Finally, there's Atticus Noble, who wields the honorable memory of the Slain King and his dishonorable death as a blunt weapon against all that isn't the Imperium, much like his cane. The one time the Imperium was gracious, and they were betrayed for it. Never again, and everyone will suffer for this humiliation until the Imperium's honor is restored---and it never will be. Because honor is not the point; conquest and control is. Revenge is the point.

Literally all of this is in the film btw. But then, I wasn't fast-forwarding or looking down at my phone the whole time or playing Paint By Numbers: Star Wars Edition. I was actually watching the goddamn movie and letting it tell me its story. And then I reflected on it afterward. Whooooaaa!

ancient greek: obviously the easiest, but do you think like the cabin 6 kids are better at attic and cabin 12 does better at ionic? clarisse swears in doric greek and the other kids are like ???

I decided to make a new pinned post for my Dafni lore document. With more people joining the fandom, I figured I'd reintroduce her. She's been around since EA and has gone through some changes here and there. Some have stuck, and others that ended up getting cut.

Hopefully, this will be her final big lore update. I am happy with where she is now and how she's fitting into my new drafts for Sunshine & Starlight. If you've been around for a bit, you might notice I landed on a version of her story that is close to my early drafts of her backstory in the end. So this is my PSA to writers to always hold on to your content, even stuff you cut because you never know what you might end up using.

She radiates wisps of shadow when she is particularly sad, serious, or using her shadow-touched abilities.

Dafni was born on the spring equinox to Thesmia, a very old and powerful eladrin druidess and bladesinger. Her home, Peleira, is hidden deep within the feywild of the Lylarth Forest. It was built around an ancient oasis created by the first elves to come to the Feywild. It is a place shaped by sylvan and elvish magic, with spires and structures of flawless marble reflecting the breathtaking, everlasting sunset’s burnt oranges and vivid violets.

Hundreds of years of loving restoration returned the oasis to its former glory. Thesmia has made Peleira a paradise and refuge for elves, nymphs, and other fey. Peleria is a vassal of the Kingdom of Sarifal, part of the Court of High Lady Ordalf. The village is the island’s primary source of food and medicinal vegetation. It is also home to Thesmia’s Spire of Laural, one of the most vast collections of elven history and artifacts outside of Evermeet. Thesmia had taken in several wards over the centuries. These women help Thesmia run the village.

Dafni’s father is a shadar-kai knight and servant of the Raven Queen, whom Lady Ordalf has been in conflict with due to a shadow curse taking over one of Gwynneth’s forests.

When Thesmia grew tired of her life in the court’s capital, Caspian granted her the memory of Peleira in the form of an enchanted compass that would always point towards it. A gift Thesmia has since passed on to her daughter.

Due to her shadar-kai, linage Dafni’s seasonal affinities manifest differently than most eladrin. She only has two forms: Spring (Light) and Winter (Shadow). Dafni’s dubious paternity is an open secret at court and has led to some unkind treatment outside her village.

Thesmia is a loving but overprotective mother who sheltered Dafni for most of her life. Dafni was allowed much less freedom than her older sisters growing up, creating friction between herself and her mother.

Starting at age 17, Dafni began training as her mother’s apprentice. While Dafni excelled at druidcraft, she was somewhat inept with wizardry and complex magic. By age 30, her mother had released her from the apprenticeship. Despite never fully mastering the tradition, Dafni still incorporates many bladesinging techniques into her fighting style.

Cleric Calling:

Dafni’s soul holds an extra spark of the divine. She was among the few elves who chose not to take a fixed form and thus was not cast out from Arvandor. This is her first mortal lifetime.

The elves believe that to truly feel Corellon’s presence, they must seek to know themselves. Much of the work Corellon wants her to do as a mortal is centered on her learning to trust in herself more and to make her own choices for her own reasons, not because she thinks it is what is expected of her by external factors, even him.

Dafni has always tended to wander off when something catches her attention. As a small child, she followed a whips deep into the woods surrounding her village.

Unbeknownst to her, a drider exiled from the feydark had taken up residence in the forest. Perhaps sensing her dormant divine power, the creature planned to sacrifice her to win Lolth’s favor. As she was dragged into the heart drider’s den, an enchanted arrow buried itself into the creature’s skull.

A wandering Corellite had saved her. Dafni didn’t recognize him from the village, but he seemed incredibly familiar. He comforted her and headed her injuries.

He took her hand and guided her through the forest. Once they reached the border of Peleira, the man crouched down, placing his quarter moon amulet around her neck.

When she asked why, he smiled and told her it had always been hers and that he had only been holding onto it for her. He told her he had to leave but promised they would meet again.

Corellon has been known to wander the multiverse incognito, seeking new magic and ideas. Despite encouraging self-reliance among his followers, Corellon is a relatively involved deity. Dafni is entirely unaware of the true nature of this encounter. From her perspective, she was simply saved by a cleric.

After her mother released her from bladesinging apprenticeships, Dafni felt lost and directionless. She had never wanted to be a wizard, but she had seen it as her only path for the first 30 years of her life.

She had, at least, inherited her mother’s green thumb. Nature had always seemed to sing in her presence. Her inherent fey magic could coxing even the most wilted plant into bloom. But, her’s was the power of springtime, wild and unbound. She could manage a small garden well enough but was ill-suited to the organized work of yielding crops.

She became depressed and sulked around her mother’s tower in her shadow/winter form for a few months. She had to sit with herself and figure out what she wanted out of her life. Dafni had always had an affinity for the divine. Still, she never pursued it beyond a hobby out of fear of disappointing her mother.

She thought of the cleric who saved her from the drider as a girl. How brave and kind he had been. She realized that that was her calling. To nurture and protect her people.

Although she never received formal training through a temple, her mother’s library was fast and contained many resources on elven theology. Additionally, she still had some access to her primal memories. Allowing her to tap into her knowledge from her first lifetime as a priestess in Arvandor.

BG3 Set Up:

Dafni lived alongside the wood elves of Lylarth Forest in the material plane for a few decades. During those years, she began to come into herself.

She began to feel a pull toward Bauldr’s Gate following a brief adventure with a group of shipwrecked adventurers. She has taken up residence in the Twin Songs neighborhood of the outer city. She rents a townhouse out of which she runs a small clinic, providing both traditional and magical healing.

The Ancunín family owns the townhouse she lives in. After the death of their son, they moved to their country estate full-time but retained their properties and assets in the city. Dafni has never met the people who rent to her. Minimrie Virra, an elf from a lower noble family, manages the building.

Dafni was on her way to the Cloak Wood Forest on the city’s outskirts to treat an outbreak of fever in one of the local wood elf clans when the mind flayers took her. She planned to stay with the wood elves for at least a tenday. She was relatively well packed for her adventure, having her medicine chest, adventuring supplies, etc. on hand when abducted.

The feywild seeps into the material plane on Gwynneth significantly, with some locations existing both planes at once. Her only knowledge of the world beyond the island came from a group of adventurers she had aided following a shipwreck and courtly gossip. She often struggles with the customs and decorum of the material plane.

Gear & Notable Items: Long sword, Oathbow, A golden compass that points towards the nearest portal to the feywilds within 10 miles, A holy amulet of Corellon, lyre, Feywilds & Shadowfell shards, moon sickle, Medical chest & herbalist tools.

Fun facts:

Her favorite treat is lemon bars and honey cake.

She likes romance novels.

She has kept a diary most of her life. She has a century of filled journals in her room.

She loves tea and has a collection of teacups at home.

She plays the lyre & harp.

She’s an Arachnophobe

She can spin and weave.

She is vulnerable to cold iron because of her fey ancestry.

In addition to her cleric abilities, Dafni has studied nonmagical medicine and is a talented surgeon and healer.

Despite being a faerie, she can technically lie. However, the lies taste like soot and bile in her mouth. The taste is more pungent the more significant the lie, so she tries to avoid it.

She thinks she can bake, but it always turns downright awful.

Past life:

Warning: this section has spoilers for a few story elements for Sunshine & Starlight.

Despoena served as a priestess of Elyadia. The acolytes of the temple were sworn to Corellon, Creator of the Elves. The priests were healers and warriors who served as liberators to those stripped of their freedoms. Elyadia offered refuge to elves who had experienced trauma and needed rehabilitation of both physical and emotional wounds.

Reincarnation:

After the war, all but the few elves who didn’t take fixed-physical forms were cast out of Arvandor. Despoena, ever loyal to her god, chose to remain in Arvandor.

She grew restless without a purpose, wandering the empty halls of Elyadia until the temple became overrun by nature. Tired of watching her talents go to waste, Corellon began sending elven souls afflicted by malevolent magics or wounds of the heart and mind to Elyadia, along with elven clerics who accomplished great acts of healing and magic in their mortal lives who wanted to continue to serve their people during their time in the afterlife.

When she first came into being, she had felt limitless and free. She had lost herself in her grief and out of a misguided desire to please Corellon. It became apparent to her that self-discovery would likely need to happen outside of Arvandor. She implored Lord Corellon to allow her at least one mortal experience. Much to her surprise, Corellon was in favor of her request.

Corellon hopes for her to discover that while her kindness and love for her people are great strengths, self-sacrifice to the point of living for other people’s happiness hinders her potential. She’s finding balance and learning that being your person doesn’t have to be at the cost of compassion and community.

Thiramin:

“Like most other important things in their lives, elves describe this mystically. They believe that a person’s spiritual progress is unknowingly intertwined with that of another. This soulmate is called a thiramin.”

Dafni and Astarion are fated mates. They were friends and lovers in their original lifetimes. Free will and self-determination are central to the elven existence. The souls bound simply pulled them together. They have to choose what to do with it.

For Aidon (Astarion), it was love at first sight; he saw her gathering flowers near the temple. She still burned bright with magic lost to the majority of their people. Being near her felt like the wild, endless possibility of spring had taken root in his soul.

Knowing he would not be permitted to approach the temple grounds, he watched her from the shadows for a time. Aidon had a clever mind and a talent for creating loopholes in any rule between himself and his desires.

Despoena was curious by nature. When a strange trail of snow-white daffodils appeared at the edge of the temple grounds, she could not resist the urge to see where they might lead. At the end of the trial, she found a shaded meadow and a masculine elf with a pleased grin.

He was irreverent, flirtatious, and unlike anyone she had known before. He was fiercely independent and sure of his desires. His sharp wit and easy charm had taken Despoena.

Over the centuries, they often wandered back into each other’s lives. They are echoes of each other in many ways, creatures of opposing but complementary nature. This was the source of the occasional falling out, though they always reconciled.

Despoena never stopped mourning the loss of his company following the events of the war of the Seldarine. She thought of him often and even occasionally, looking into his mortal lives.

BECAUSE LIKE. okay so the idea i had was because i started watching sailor moon (the 90s version) for a friend and then at some point became absolutely consumed by the brainrot of the little bratty girl who is FOR SURE a reincarnation of the lost princess and then i was like ARE ALL MAGICAL GIRL STORIES LIKE THIS and then went to look up tropes and was just like ok time to make one of those too but with? genderfuckery? less hypersexualization perhaps? and so i came up with 5 ocs that take up these ginormous roles of Symbols of these big pieces of the world that are necessary in life:

so you've got Nefise, the symbol of Logic/Rationale, and her power is she just gets to punch people and be HILARIOUS about it. she and Dani started this they're so fucked up dude in a way that is agonizing specifically to me but uhhh. she is blue that is one other thing!

and Dani, who is the symbol of Hope, and he's a knight because he's Just Cool Like That and he has a really cool sword. in my brain though because i don't draw a lot of swords lmao. he's so blorbo (<- regrets drawing him in brown. i declare him orange)

and then Tesni, who is the symbol of Balance, with sub-symbol storms, who is second best friends with Dani (they met when they were like 14 or something) and really cool and plays soccer or some other sport. PURPLE.

and also felicité (chance; pink) & kora (art/music; green) who i WILL develop at some point i need to figure out what to do with them plotwise. i'm like slowly pulling them into the story one by one

DFP Actors August: Angela Dotchin

NZ actors tend to end up in a lot of the same shows over the years it seems. I have a lot of fun spotting familiar faces, so I thought this would be a fun and silly little project, seeing which actors have repeatedly been in things that Deano was also in (not necessarily alongside). Shortland Street (1996/1992-1998)

Dean played Nurse Harry Martin in 1996. Angela played Kirsty Knight from 1992-1998.

I haven't seen all the episodes either of them are in, but there's a whole plot where Harry is into Kirsty and she gets upset because she thought they were friends... and then later she suffers from amnesia and it seems like Harry is trying to convince her that she wanted to leave her partner (possibly to open her up to him?)... This showww. Very very soapy soap opera at least back in the late 90's clips I watched haha.

Xena: Warrior Princess (1996, 2000/1998)

Dean played two roles: Homer/Orion - S1E13 "Athens City Academy of the Performing Bards" Wiglaf - S6E9 "Return of the Valkyrie"

Angela played Soraya in S3E19 "Tsunami".

Young Hercules (1998-1999)

Dean played Young Iolaus in 46 of the 50 episodes. Angela played Kora in 18 episodes.

This was the first thing I saw each of them in, and I was super into Iolaus (and Hercules) and I remember thinking Kora was sooo cool and pretty (I was like 10 omg). Kora owning her own business and holding her own against all the weird and rowdy customers really makes me like her. We also learn at some point that she is a powerful (virgin) devotee of Artemis! She can transform into the huntress form pictured on the right above.

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995-1998/1999)

Dean played a few different characters on this show: Iloran - S1E12 "The Gauntlet" Young Iolaus - S4E3 "Regrets... I've Had a Few", S4E11 "Medea Culpa" and S4E20 "Twilight". Ruun - S4E7 "Prodigal Sister"

Angela played Nautica in two episodes, S5E18 "Love on the Rocks" & S5E21 "My Best Girl's Wedding". Nautica is a mermaid who falls in love with, and marries, Iolaus 2 (I haven't seen the episodes, but it's an Iolaus from another reality. Aphrodite turns him into a merman so he can stay with Nautica).

Lawless: Beyond Justice (2001)

Dean played Nat Joseph. Angela played Jodie Keane.

I haven't watched this yet, but I have it.

Serial Killers (2004)

Dean played Andrew, an actor on the in-universe soap opera 'Heart of Hearts' in all 7 episodes. Angela played Chrissy in episode 5.

Anime List

***yo I started this in Highschool and I just graduated college....And I know dang well there are anime that I’ve watched that I never added to this list hahahaha***

FINISHED ANIMES:

Inuyasha -my life

Avatar- The Last Airbender -if you count that as anime

The Legend of Kora-if you count this as anime as well

Ouran Highschool Host Club -SO MAD THERE IS NO SEASON 2

B Gata H Kei- WHAT IS UP WITH THESE ANIMES NOT HAVING A SEASON 2, interesting plot btw lmao

Kaichou Wa Maid Sama -sooooooo cute thought it was pretty well executed story

Fruits Basket - very cute and the characters were very well written and developed. although i didn’t really care the lack of plot, i didn’t really care for the main character at all

Aria the Scarlet Ammo- wasn’t my favorite but i loved the main character, he was actually the only character i liked

Amnesia-was pretty good but i was confused like 80% of time

Arcana Famigila- Thought this was a pretty creative plot and I really liked the story line and the characters were rad, I really didn’t know how much i like it until it was over and then I was empty inside)

KamiSama Kiss-LOVED LOVED LOVED, currently waiting on season 3 and I wasn’t sure if I should put this in the finished list or currently watching

Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi -my first yaoi anime and I loved it, it was very cute

The K Project- wasn’t sure if this went in finished animes or not because I finished season 1 but I heard there was going to be a season 3. Tbh I thought I was going to hate this but I turned out LOVING IT

Say I Love You- This anime was damn cute and very satisfying to say the least! I loved it 10/10

Hiiro no Kakera (Tamayori Princess)- This one was one of those animes that I started off hating and ended up loving. It was a little too cheesy for my taste and some of the animation sucked. I also think that the series was not long for what they’re were trying to accomplish at the end because of the lack of development everything seemed rushed. But overall I did enjoy it.

Full Metal Alchemist-THE WHOLE THING WAS GR8 UNTIL THE END

Beyond The Boundary- Really like it, thought it was very well put together for being of of the shorter series

Special A-Very much liked this anime, very funny and entertaining

Itazura Na Kiss- Okay this anime I liked it at first but it really just turned me off with the amount of like verbal and then physical abuse the main protagonist received by her significant other. I understand where the writer was trying to go with this idea of like the male lead having a tough exterior but then end up being a softy but I think she just overdid it. I really want to love this anime but I can’t and honestly, I couldn’t focus on the story line much becasue I was always thinking about why the main protagonist received so much abuse from an anime that’s not that serious of a drama. And also I don’t appreciate how fast it went along, but ya know its not my story, so you do you Kaoru Tada.

Dance With Devils- I liked it, didn’t have any complaints, was just a typical anime for me tbh nothing special

Monthly Girls Nnozaki Kun- Omg I was so mad about this anime because it really had so much potential to be a good romance story and it literally just went nowhere. NOWHERE. And becasue of that it was pretty boring to me; I found myself hoping that something would actually happen and create some kind of plot 24/7.

Akagami-no-Shirayuki-hime- Very cute, I loved it. I really like the main character.

Seven Deadly Sins- I wasn’t really into this at first but as I got to know the characters more I found I really loved it. The story itself is okay but the characters really are the selling point for this anime.

Vampire Knights- Okay I am going to try and push my bitterness aside about the couple in this anime, though i heard that in the manga my ship is cannon. I like the concept, but main characters who are treated like they need to be protected and nurtured like a child always upset me and that kinda ruined this one for me.

Takanoichigo- (Orange): MY FUCKING HEART MAN. IM SO SAD AND HAPPY AT THE SAME TIME. IM GLAD I WATCHED THIS IT WAS GREAT. ONE OF THE BEST I’VE EVER WATCHED. I LUUUVVV IT.

Green Green- It was cute. I think it needed to be developed more, like it shouldn’t have been a short series. Lots of potential to be a lot better. Very short and sweet.

Kiss Him, Not Me -I wasn’t feeling it at first but I warmed up to it. I wish the main character would focus on the romance more though, that’s what I was there for lol.

Mayo Chiki- hmm I really like the main character in this one, he was a cute and simple boy next door but other than that there wasn’t anything that stood out about it. It was very average to me. But still it wasn’t bad, nice and short and sweet.

Yuri!!! On Ice- Idk why I waited so long to watch this even know everyone said it was awesome. I absolutely adored it, it was very cute and I like the relationship between Yuri and Victor.

Masume Kun No Revenge- I actually watched this before Mayo Chiki but forgot to add it to the list. I actually was really into this one, Im a fan of the animation. The plot is whatever for me but what really got me was the characters, overall it was pretty good.

Hunter x Hunter - What a great anime first of all, I was a little taken by how gory it was but I really appreciate the time they took in the characters personalities and developing their relationships with one another. Kilua and Got is a really great pair, and I know people have a lot of opinions about the ant arc lol but I love it, something about it was so so weird, and dark and twisted and I couldn't stop watching lol.

Fairytail - Honestly what can I say, its in my Top 5. You need to watch it for yourself.

Naruto Shippuden- Idc what anyone says about Naruto, best plot, best characters, great music, great storylines, everything good, lots of fillers but I can look past that lol. Favorite of all time.

`CURRENTLY WATCHING (longer animes, who knows when I’ll finish):

Bleach-Not my fave anime but i’m already 100 episodes in and theres no stopping me from finishing…Literally haven’t even watched a new episode in like months but I gonna finish it sooner or later. I don’t think I’ll ever get around to finishing bleach tbh lol

-OKAY. So I wanna give bleach another chance (’: I remember just not liking it at all but I’m gonna try again okay, I’m a new person now LOL

My Hero Academia - I don’t have full thoughts yet, but I really like this anime. I’ll update you later

Noragami- Never finished lol

One Piece- Yeah not that into it but I still wanna watch

NEXT TO WATCH:

IDK, I’ve been stuck on the K-Drama train. I might start a K-Drama list lol.
