Description: AU where Billy survives the film's events and is on the run with you, basically just one big cross-country road trip / Billy x GN!Reader

Author's Note: Gonna start writing on tumblr by posting some headcanons first, feels like a nice, comfortable way to ease into this new creative outlet of mine

Only listens to the radio when driving, if you're not playing your own music

Definitely favors Country/Rock music but will enjoy anything you put on

Has to have his hand on you or holding yours while driving

Prefers to drive himself, but on the rare occasion you do, he immediately knocks out and is out cold for most of the drive

Very hard to wake up once asleep, no matter where y'all are

Tries to enjoy the local bars from every town y'all pass through

Is very cautious/paranoid, doesn't particularly love you going anywhere outside the motels you stay at by yourself

It became a habit for him to torrent films for y'all to watch in motels or listen to while driving, he refuses to pay $20 just to rent or buy a movie

Typically easy to talk to, especially when it comes to your feelings and concerns, but not so much his own issues

Tends to shut down when it comes to his own emotions and traumatic memories (he's trying his best)

Is an absolute sucker for physical affection of any kind (definitely his love language)

Almost always has a hand on you or is touching you in some way, not just while driving

Speaking of physical touch, he loves skin-to-skin contact, it comforts him and makes him feel closer to you, both physically and mentally

Despite his anger issues, he would never even think about laying a hand on you maliciously

Completely melts into you when you play with his hair or massage/scratch his head

Addicted to kissing you, he will never be the first to pull away

Likes to shower with you, both innocently and not-so-innocently

Do you have any nicknames for the characters in the game? Since some of their names are quite long or hard to pronounce.

I was thinking of MC actually calling them by some of the nicknames/shortened I kinda came up with, and the shorter named characters are jealous that they don't have their own nicknames.

Some examples could be like I call Gabriel, Gabby, but when it comes to Satan it's just Satan. If he's jealous I was thinking MC could call him "Tantan" 😂 then with Sitri, since in the Japanese pronunciation, his name is "Shi-to-ri" instead, so why not call him "Tori", aka birds in Japanese. Leraye could be just "Raye", while Paimon can be "Pai-chan" or "MonMon." Then there's Asta(roth), Beli(al) and Za(gan)-chan.

How would you even give nickname to Bael, Amon and Stolas. I can call Naberius, Nabe, but calling Amon, A, is funny. My brain suddenly said call Bael, Baa, like straight up do sheep noises at him. And maybe from our knowledge of some of the human interpretation of Stolas is an owl, we could call him Stowlas even though he's a raven(or crow...I forgot which one 😭 if it was crow, MC could call him Crowlas...)

Calling Michael, Mike, right in front of his face and watch his face twist with anger. Raph ain't that bad, so he probably won't be as angry as Mike would.

I will be honest, nicknames are not usually my thing. I drop pet names all the time, but actual nicknames? Those take me a long time because they have to really fit the character. Like, I almost feel I can't shorten Leviathan's name because of how serious he always is (and because Levi is the OM brother in my mind). Beelzebub gets shortened to Bell all the time. I know it should be Beel, technically, but the game uses both spellings interchangeably (and Beel, again, is the OM boy to me).

Satan is just Satan, Sitri is Sitri, and so on. Nicknames come over time as I learn more about characters. Although, when I'm speaking, I will call Glayalabolas "Glass" because I cannot pronounce his name to save my life. Valephor needs a nickname immediately, like how I nickname my stuffed toys. Man would love it.

Bael's nickname is "Mine"

WHY are fantasy adaptations almost always stuck with arrogant writers/directors who think they can do BETTER than the source material which actually has an established fanbase?????? got, wheel of time, dark tower, witcher, even some middle grade books that i followed got adaptations which completely tossed the books away, and not in a oh we're making minor changes to the show, but in a IM GOING TO DO WHAT I WANT AND CHANGE THE CHARACTERS AND TONALITY COMPLETELY F U like??? do they not like fantasy fic? do they look down on it and think oh it's just lots of swashbuckling and hot ppl and explosions right, i can do that? do they think their version of girlboss characters is what people WANT? NVM that the authors vision OBVIOUSLY worked if SO MANY PPL LOVE IT.

honestly i think ppl adapting fantasy have the nolan syndrome ie they can't just say 'hey i did a fantasy thing and i LIKE IT AND I ADAPTED IT WELL' but 'AH I HAVE TO TURN IT INTO SOMETHING SERIOUS™ BC FANTASY ISN'T SERIOUS' and like........ okay but why it's a genre like any other just embrace it and do it?? idk idgi but honestly if they have to pick ppl from nowhere to adapt stuff without previous screenwriting credits then i propose they aren't picked if they aren't fans first and foremost then we can talk about it

and like... thing is i'm not generally against changes like if *I* adapted the DT I'd massively change the shit out of everything book 7 chose to be because as a massive fan I thought it sucked and made no sense and king couldn't tell me shit after having allowed whatever the fuck that movie was but i'd do it coming from actually liking the source material not bc i look down on it and a lot of ppl really don't get it

We don't need speculative discourse on the physical location of locations of the family members. Those who can be there will be there in due time. Rapid travel when you may be working against time is not easy, especially in Scotland's weather with tons of children to think about. Tim, Kate, Harry and Meghan, Sarah Chatto and David Armstrong-Jones, Eugenie and Jack, Beatrice and Edo, Zara and Mike, Peter, maybe Louise and George. I have no doubt that they are on their way.

Even The Duke and Duchess of Kent, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Prince and Princess Michael. People forget that HM's cousins were her only true support in terms of royal engagement since she became Queen other than Philip.

I do not doubt that they are doing their best. This is impossible to plan. You cannot drop everything and travel to a different country in a matter of 2 hours when you may be working against time that you simply cannot postpone. All things considered, those at the top are there. We can only hope that, if she is on her way, there is enough time for the rest of her dear family to make it in time.

Please stop, everyone. She is HM The Queen, but she is mum/grandma/Gan Gan/aunt/cousin first. Now is not the time.

2022 comics reading log

In the early days of last year, I was inspired by some twitter mutuals to post my comics reading in the new year and kept it up from Jan 1 2022 till just about the bitter end. Something about it really helped keep me invigorated by the medium even in some pretty bleak times, so I’m going to keep it going this year, but here at Longboxd instead of on twitter, which I'm trying to spend less time at. Before I can do that though, I want to archive the 2022 entries in a spot that’s more permanent/less twitter-iffic, so here we go—pretty much every comic I read in 2022! (As transcribed from here)

Part 2: 22-38 (of 387)

(I can "only" post 30 images at a time here, so that’ll dictate the length of these catch-up posts)

22) Silver Star #1 by Jack Kirby & Mike Royer - Kirby’s Blubber? Very Beto vibes—very Lynchian, held together by spit and nonsense.

23) Shattered Earth #1 - The best story in this anthology has a horny dog that gets cucked by a wandering wasteland hippie.

24) Sun Runners #2

25) Shade, The Changing Man #50

26) True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys: NATIONAL ANTHEM - Narratively, it’s firmly in the "halcyon days of vertigo" mold, and that’s cool, but between Romero and Bellaire this is one of the more stunning art showcases I’ve seen in a while. God-tier coloring, IMO!

27) The Terminator #1 (1990) - Chris Warner tha gawd with nice chunky inks from Paul Guinan, and a script by DH genre MVP John Arcudi that swings between terse and pleasantly purple. This and the Predator series the year before (also drawn by Warner) set the mold for decades of movie tie-in books.

28 & 29) Blood n’ Guts #1 & 2 - These are very bad comics by a weird, probably bad dude who's weird & not always bad comics I grew up with. Not much to them (this is from one of Blair's big firehose-of-comics periods) other than a *great* logo I assume was made by Dave Cooper.

30) Alien Worlds #7 - I loved this series as a kid—it's mostly an art showcase (Corben, Morrow, Anderson & Perez in this issue!) but Bruce Jones' short stories are trashy scifi paperback anthology style fun, routinely see-sawing btwn kind of hokey & total bleak nihilism, often on the same page. one story, theoretically concerned w/recreating The Thing inside an implied sketch of a Wally Wood/EC planet setting, mostly actually focuses on infidelity leading to murder (a common Jones trope). In the end everyone dies after the revelation that their parkas are hungry aliens.

31) Eclipse Monthly #2 by various

32) Sensation Comics #6 - This is the pure, uncut shit.

33) Head Lopper #15

34) Marvel Team-Up #101 - Robot hippies and Peter Parker favorably compares the trauma of Nighthawk killing his girlfriend in a drunk driving incident to Uncle Ben’s death.

35) The Swamp Thing: Becoming TPB

36) Head Lopper #16

37) Skull, The Slayer #1 - Sorta standard Th’unda etc white adventure guy thrown into a prehistoric setting to fight dinosaurs kinda thing, (the twist being that this guy? He’s a real piece of shit!) but Steve Gan does impressive work, and Marv Wolfman’s colors are surprisingly effective.

38) The Man-Thing #8 - I haven’t read many of these. Pacing is slow if not deliberate, vampy gothic vibes. With Ploog’s squishy art, it kinda reads like a Golden Age Underground.

I really didn't like flana/gan's usher... it was so predictable and formulaic - at the same time stupidly convoluted, and worst of all not scary in any way. the avengers of e.a. poe idea already sucks it's like he just wanted to show how clever he was at connecting stuff that wasn't meant to be connected and it felt so forced. doesn't hold up on its own without recalling the original stories either. thematically its just succession for dummies sprinkled with some jampscares :/

he's definitely better at writing his own stuff cause midnight mass is still pretty good to me despite undoubtedly having his usual flaws (the overexplaining first of all... god I get it mike!!!). at this point I'm starting to think it was a fluke lol this & midnight club & bly manor are laughably bad to me

#idk I felt appalled enough to write a rec. 2/10 carla and hamill were both great but the material... eh #and the bad cgi!!! expecially in the last ep!! I was laughing so hard at the skyscraper scene and I don't think it was the intended effect #some death scenes were unequivocally cool exp the first one but... so? It should've been an actual short stories anthology :/

"Burn"

Una desolada gasolinera a la media noche es el punto de reunión perfecto para el emocionante thriller que nos trae hoy TNT en su ciclo de Originales. "Burn (Noche Infernal)" es la cinta del director Mike Gan, quien ya había escrito un par de episodios de "Into The Dark" y dirigido uno de ellos. Aquí el novato director se estrena en la pantalla grande con este thriller también de su autoría.

La historia se centra en el personaje de Melinda (Tilda Cobham-Hervey), una dependiente de una gasolinera que junto con Sheila (Suki Waterhouse) se encargan del turno nocturno. Ellas son muy contrastantes entre sí, mientras Sheila es más extrovertida y brutalmente honesta, Melinda es muy introvertida y solitaria que ve en cualquier persona que es amable con ella la oportunidad para poder escapar de su triste realidad.

Mientras ellas se encuentran trabajando aparece en escena Billey (Josh Hutcherson) un ladrón de mala monta con problemas en el manejo de su ira que solo quería llevarse el dinero de la caja para poder seguir huyendo. Pero el carácter de las dependientes complicará todo llevándolo al límite, y lo que primero era un robo ahora es una situación de rehenes que está a punto de explotar.

La historia de Mike Gan se centra a la interacción de estos tres personajes mientras se encuentran dentro de la tienda de conveniencia. Ahí Gan se las ingenia para crear situaciones efectivas que aumentan la tensión de la historia y que la hacen muy entretenida. La efectiva fotografía de Jon Keng y la música de Ceiri Torjussen se suman para lograr ese efecto claustrofóbico de la única locación de esta cinta.

Contada casi en tiempo real, y con una gran actuación de parte de Tilda Conham-Hervey, los efectivos diálogos y la inclusión de personajes secundarios muy a tiempo, se logra hacer de esta cinta independiente un momento muy disfrutable.

Pero...

Aunque la cinta logra su cometido de entretener con la historia principal, al tocar temas como la soledad, autolesiones y tendencias suicidas lo hace de manera superficial ocasionando que sean tratados muy a la ligera y hasta caigan en el cliché o en lo caricaturesco. Sin embargo, como ya lo habíamos mencionado, la excelente actuación de Tilda la salva de caer en ese aspecto ya que su personaje es el que pasa por todas estas etapas.

En resumen

"Burn (Noche Infernal)" es un efectivo y claustrofóbico thriller, que gracias a su creativo guion y cuidada dirección logra convertirse en una "mediana" propuesta 👎

Author's Note: I'm finally back! This is just like a one-shot for this AU if anything. It's clearly inspired by Tear In My Heart by Twenty One Pilots, lol. Living out my 2016 teenage fantasies with this one, lmao. Thanks to @hazeldastar for helping proofread this (if anything is wrong, it's her fault 💜). Anyway, enjoy!

You fell asleep in my car, I drove the whole time / But that's okay, I'll just avoid the holes so you sleep fine / I'm driving here I sit, cursing my government / For not using my taxes to fill holes with more cement

Car horn. Snoring. A/C unit.

Roll over.

Footsteps. Muffled talking. Breathing.

Open your eyes.

He shifts. Bed springs. More snoring.

This isn't working.

You sit up with a sigh and look over at your sleeping companion. How is he able to sleep so soundly no matter where he is? You swear he snores louder every minute he's asleep, and he barely moves throughout the night. You take a glimpse at the healed burn on the side of his face, feeling remorse. You ghost the tips of your fingers over his burn tenderly, mostly for your own comfort. You stare at him, almost in awe, as he lays on his back, his left arm stretched out behind you, sleeping so contently. Jealousy briefly flashes in your mind before tiredness takes over again.

Stomach rumbling.

How long has it been since you've eaten? You glance at Billy one last time before carefully standing up, hoping that the cheap mattress doesn't give you away. You recoil when he shifts again, turning to lay on his side before his snoring starts back up. Breathing a sigh of relief, you walk over to the desk on the other side of the cramped motel room. Navigating through a mostly dark room, minimal moonlight shining through the sheer curtains, you try not to make too much noise. You shuffle through your snack bin before landing on a bag of chips.

You look back at him, so peaceful, tranquil. He'd been driving all day, there's no way you could wake him up right now. Softly, the padding of your feet can be heard on the scratchy, poor-quality carpet as you head toward the adjacent room; tiny as it was, the bathroom, the best option for you right now. You gently close the door before turning on the flickering light, illuminating the compact space. You sigh and rub your eyes before sitting on the cold tile floor, squeezing in between the sink and the shoddy shower. Rubbing your eyes again, you pray that filling up on carbs will lull you into a short slumber before you both have to pack up and ditch town in the morning.

You sit there, uncomfortably, for a few minutes. Taking your time, snacking on your bag of chips before your return to bed where you will inevitably toss and turn until the sun rises once again. This road trip was starting to take a toll on your body.

Crunch.

You'd swear that these were the loudest chips on the planet. It's like they were trying to sabotage you. As if on cue, you could hear the heavy footsteps of your partner heading towards the bathroom door now. You flinch and brace for the knock on the door.

Knocking.

"Hey, darlin', you alright in there?" He asks, voice raspy.

"Yeah," you start to whisper, not really sure why at this point. "I didn't wanna wake you."

He laughs.

"Well, the lack of your presence woke me up anyway." He remarks playfully. "Come back to bed, love."

You crumble up your bag of chips and toss them before standing up. A few of your joints crack from unraveling the awkward position. You open the door to see your heavily disheveled boyfriend standing in front of you, the ghost of a smirk on his face. You feel as though you look a lot worse for wear than he does. Disheveled always looked good on him anyway.

"I can't sleep." You admit, shoulders slumped, feeling defeated and a bit childish.

"Yeah?" He cocks his head to the side.

"Yeah. Sleep is for the weak anyway, right?"

"Right." Billy's smirk grows wider.

"Right." You agree, your shoulders straightening before slumping again.

"But I... I am so very, very weak." You look down as you say this, the exhaustion catching up to you.

Billy hums and rests his hands on your shoulders. You both stand in silence for a few moments, contemplating and reveling in the scene's serenity. You could feel the true fatigue weighing down your entire being, not having slept for the past few weeks. It felt as though it were affecting you in all aspects of your life: physically, emotionally, spiritually. Billy's always been able to read you well, and he can sense the unease in you. He starts to rub the sides of your arms lightly, head still cocked to the side and ducking down, trying to make eye contact with you. He's smiling softly now, no longer feeling as playful, just wanting to help you feel better.

You sigh and wrap your arms around his waist, nuzzling your face into his neck, basking in the warmth radiating from his body. You didn't want to look him in the eyes right now. He quickly wraps his arms around your shoulders, pulling you into him further and taking in your scent. Both of you stay like this for a couple of minutes, content with the sickly sweet feeling of the instance, yet still feeling the restlessness of the lack of sleep.

He starts to sway gently with you in his arms, murmuring sweet nothings into your ear to ease your growing anxiety. Both enjoying the comfort of the moment and the tenderness. After a few moments, Billy pulls away slightly and raises a hand to your chin, lifting your head to finally look at him. He rubs his thumb along your skin lightly.

"Wanna go for a drive?"

The nighttime air was warm, Summer making itself known. There was no need for either of you to wear a jacket as you climbed into Billy's car, parked right in front of your motel room door. Not many other cars were in the run-down motel parking lot.

Cicadas buzzing.

Your lover rolls down the windows of the car before pulling out onto the road. With no destination in mind: you set out. Deep down, Billy knows you both don't have much to spare for gas money, but he figures he can scrounge for change this time around. You tiredly gaze out the window at the passing trees, the quaint houses, and the small businesses. You truly loved driving through these small towns, especially when the residents were kind. Stopping by the local bars was always yours and Billy's favorite thing to do. Billy glances at you in your relaxed state and turns on the radio, quietly. He grabs your hand and smiles at you before looking back at the road. You return the smile, wearily, before looking out the open window once again.

After a while, you can finally feel your eyes drooping, not sure whether or not to fight it off this time. You end up losing the battle and knock out cold. Billy can only vaguely hear your light snores over the music playing and the air flowing through the windows. He smiles fondly and slows the car down a bit, attempting to make the whipping of the wind throughout the car more gentle as well as the ride itself.

Thunk.

He cringes and looks over at you, still sleeping but turned over to face him now. These damn country roads. He figured you must really be in a deep sleep if that didn't wake you up. He turns on the brights to illuminate the road; he'd do anything to avoid the goddamn potholes right now. Of all the times you drive together, they have to make an appearance now.

Thunk.

Son of a bitch. He glances over at you once again, still passed out cold in the passenger's seat. He begins to feel a twinge of guilt, you haven't slept properly in days. He squeezes your hand and looks back at the road, driving more carefully this time. He lightly presses his foot on the brakes, going even slower than before. It's not like there was anyone else on the road at this hour anyway.

Billy reluctantly lets go of your hand and reaches into his pocket, pulling out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. Pulling out a single stick, he places it in between his lips before lighting it. He pockets the rest of the pack and his lighter before he peeks at you again. You finally look as peaceful as he did earlier that night. He takes a puff of the cigarette as he lightly swerves to avoid another pothole. What was the point in paying taxes if the government wasn't even gonna use it for the important stuff?

He could see the motel in the distance now, as he had already made his way around the tiny town in a short amount of time. Billy glimpses at you for the nth time that night. He really doesn't want to wake you up. He doesn't think he has the heart to anyway. He sighs before making an abrupt turn, circling his way around the town again. Maybe he'll just drive for a little bit longer.
