Lamps incandescent and gas-discharge indicators in the hands of the designer
In the spring of this year, I posted on the Datagors Forum a topic about finding a tungsten micron wire for filaments of incandescent lamps.
For several years now I have been investing my spare time in the study of vacuum processes, the construction of incandescent lamps and digital gas-discharge indicators. Here is such a hemorrhoids I invented such a hobby.
In the prototype lamps used a pure tungsten wire 0.1 mm, but because of the rapid process of recrystallization of tungsten, the rate of destruction of the filament was obtained high, respectively, the lamp was not long at all.
The second problem - because of the relatively large filament diameter of the filament, the current consumed was too high, which led to the overheating of the bushings into the lamp and the microflows of air into the lamp cavity.
So I tried to find a thread thinner for the next prototype.
I always try to make progress in making lamps!
The wire tungsten in the end had to be made to order in China. Since the wire is special, they agreed to a 10 km minimum. I think I will have enough for the rest of my life.
When I started working with the new wire, additional problems with vacuum and gases were discovered, so that the lamps continued to burn out in 10-30 minutes.
After two months of persistent and failed experiments and readings of a ton of literature, the problem became clear. It turned out that I supported the annealing modes of the glass incorrectly. At the final annealing of the lamp, the temperatures were too high, which led to the emission of gases from the glass thickness and, in fact, to the burnout of the glow body.
At the moment the problem is solved, the test lamp "holds" for about 1000 hours. Ugh-pah-pah ...
A month ago I went to the Czech Republic to exchange experience for my good friend Dalibor (Dalibor Farny). He is engaged in the manufacture of gas-discharge indicators.
He had similar problems with gas evolution: the glow of the figures disappeared after about a month of lamp operation. The problem was solved. It was found that the evolution of gases occurred from the glue that he used in the lamps. Well, incidentally, they were engaged in the development of design and electronics for a new model of watches on indicators.
Now I'm basically busy making all kinds of devices that shorten the processes of making lamps.
In the hand of the designer this electric devices can be performance as the nixie tube clock. I use it in my home during few monthes and it’s a great device.
