The mantle of Batman was officially handed over to cassandra, her expression serious and body still as her father put his hands around her shoulder and hugged her.

Cass isn't a stranger to pain and trauma, she knows what this will mean to her, this new future.

She is aware of the kinds of pain the mantles of Robin ans Batgirl bring as well, she wasn't a Robin like her brothers and sister, but she watched them all the same.

So she prepared.

Just like Bruce, like her family, she prepared for the inevitable.

The people around her began to whisper, muttering and asking about who this woman was that Bruce Wayne was dedicating a toast to. Selina walked to the door. She looked back once to find his eyes still on her. He raised his glass. “To Gotham.” There was laughter and shouts of ‘hear hear!’ His eyes were still on her. Selina slipped out. 

It is said that if you wander the streets at night in Gotham and stumble across a kitten, you may also stumble across a thief with a heart of gold. She might allow you to keep the cat, or she’ll take it herself. But if you were to look around(but they never do) you would find yourself able to see a man standing on a roof only a few yards away, with pointed ears and glowing eyes. Watching. But never drawing too near. It is the place her eyes never wander. The one place she ignores. And it is the mystery of Gotham. Whatever happened to their beloved couple of Batcat?
